Alberto Villoldo, a classically trained medical anthropologist, has studied shamanic healing techniques among the descendants of the ancient Inkas for more than twenty years. In Shaman, Healer, Sage, he draws on his vast body of knowledge to create a practical and revolutionary program based on the traditional healing methods used by these shamans -- methods that, until now, have been inaccessible to most of the world.
Villoldo explains that central to shamanic healing is the concept of the Luminous Energy Field that is believed to surround our material bodies. His book teaches us to see and influence the imprints that disease leaves on this field and thereby to heal ourselves and others, as well as prevent illness.
Villoldo weaves wonderful teaching stories throughout about the healing power of the energy medicine of the Americas. In one story, Villoldo comes down with pneumonia while in Peru. When antibiotics fail to control the infection, his mentor, the shaman Don Antonio, uses the process of Illumination to remove the toxins that had invaded Villoldo's body. These same shamanic techniques later allowed Villoldo to remove stagnant energy from a young woman whose marriage was suffering due to her past experience with abandonment. With the aid of shamanic work, the woman regained her trust in others, and her marriage was revitalized.
This book is rich with ancient wisdom and contemporary techniques we can use to help ourselves and others, as well as with the more advanced methods of master shamans, which are being brought to a wide audience for the first time.

This book is a good read for anyone interested
in healing. Contains various examples of
emotional/physical ailments & rituals that were
used in healing. It is not a sugar-coated book making
empty promises; there are no generalizations or
formulas but a case-by-case approach. Dr. Villoldo
spent countless years in the Amazon, and he is
generous in sharing his knowledge gained. Even
though he shares much, the author acts responsibly
by cautioning readers that much practice
is needed before calling oneself a 'healer.'
In other words, don't read the book and then
hang a "HEALER" sign on your door.
He writes eloquently on a subject
that one might otherwise have'pooh poohed' had
it been written by someone without a doctorate.
This book definitely causes great introspection.
Ancient primer for a modern world.......2007-05-29
Journeying through the lower, middle and upper worlds, gathering images, thoughts and guidance from the universe, seems as natural as awakening from the dream state each morning. Using this tool of "walking between the worlds" with clients seems more akin to magic/alchemy than medicine. After experiencing the power of a simple square of shiny blue cloth and feather, given as a result of journey, watching as it encouraged the person's own healing ability, I was honored...to be the "doorman"... holding sacred space.
Reading Villoldo's book early in 2000, several of his practices were incorporated within my own work. I did find it a bit surprising that he didn't include other ideology well known and practiced within shamanism, such as use of the various gates, totems, spirit teachers, with his clients. The ancient ways promote a more comprehensive outlook encompassing body, mind and spirit from the inner core of a person. Healing then commences from within that sacred place of the individual. After, re-reading "Shaman Sage Healer" again (2007), other questions arose concerning certain aspects presented. Herein lays a conflict: modern scientific knowledge and medicine versus universal ancient traditions.
While working with different teachers, there seems to be an underlying unspoken "fear" of the unknown that we must be "protected" from. Villoldo seems to hold this viewpoint as well, by stressing that his students "need" a certain protection ceremony prior to commencing with the work. Perhaps it's simply my naiveté not to embrace this belief system. Encountering "heavy/dark" energy, I`ve been shown not to engage the negative, but simply observe my reaction to the experience. Which to believe? Questions such as this need further discussion. There's also great debate amongst teachers as to whether one should "run energy" through one's self or simply work at interface, allowing the energies to work within the surrounding sacred space.
Villoldo's teachings of creating and use of sacred space, deepening points, the Illumination process, clearing chakra's, and releasing toxic energies are highly recommended tools for any practitioner. Embracing quiet listening, setting intention and embracing the intuitive, more is revealed for the client. Use of journey and communication with higher beings or ascended masters compliments the session.
One of Villoldo's practices I don't completely agree with is to "process" at length with the client. Care must be given not to re-seat or amplify any trauma. Times have changed since "Shaman, Healer, Sage" was written. Perhaps Peter Levine's trauma work ("Waking the Tiger", North Atlantic Books,1997) speaks a more gentle voice.
Thoroughly embracing his concept of having guidance and support of a teacher or mentor is extremely important. Too many times people read a book or attend a weekend seminar and proclaim they are "this" and work without any guidance. There are individuals that aren't as involved in their teachings, only using it as a vehicle for other intentions. An elder sage once admonished.... "Choose your teacher wisely."
As a teacher, Villoldo's "Shaman, Healer, Sage" gives us a glimpse of another reality. Written as a primer, the book is a wonderful "door opener" for further exploration of alternative healing methods.

let me say that this book has some value but it should be listed as New Age. The good Doctor seems out to make money. I took a multiple day seminar with him and at the breaks he was on the phone with some broker. I think he was day trading. He seems to be a real shaman but went for the bucks a long time ago. I checked out his website and his was selling inexpensive stuff for ridiculous prices. Go find somebody else to read.

This is a wonderful tool with many exercises to help you heal yourself and others. It is the kind of book that is a constant resource for you to reread and review and work on developing your abilities. God bless Albert Villodo for bringing this teaching to all of us.

An excellent book uniting two strands of thought--kundalini and shamanism journeys. This is a book for those of you who have experience with shamanic teachings . . . not a book for those who are beginners.

Classic On Divine Healing.......2007-09-22
In the past I taught at a two-year Bible College. I taught the course on Divine Healing. One of our two texts was, Christ The Healer. This book is thorough and in depth but not difficult to read. It covers everything from A-Z on divine healing. Excellent book for the student of the Word, as well as for a skeptic or somone who doubts divine healing is for today. I have even given away several copies of this book because it so good. Anyone who has sickness or disease in their body...this is a must read! Belongs in every Christian believer's personal library....get it, today! ;-)
Revealing Healing.......2007-08-24
The word of God is powerful. This book shows you how to appropriate faith like the apostle Paul, especially by maintaing confidence when it is being tested. Faith means refusing to see anything but God, and imagining in your mind the end result.
It gives a lot of really good self advise, such as, to stop thinking things thru so much and just accept them as they are. This is where I always got stuck, I would try to analize everything to death, and never really finding any answers, just becoming more frustrated and confused. Just accept the truths of the Bible and forget about all that thinking.
For example, imagine yourself already obeying the 10 Commandments, and you will be amazed at how much better you feel and act, a new found peace evovles within yourself. Keep your mind on the end result, stop all that in between wishy wasy - back and forth thinking. Commit and go on.
It is God's will for everyone to be well. He healed them all, so pray for him to not only heal yourself, but to heal them all, including yourself. Believe it and don't think about it (these doubts and logical thinking we have are from the devil).
Remove your ego from the picture, and start using and believing postive sayings from the Bible as your daily Mantra's. Find your favorites, like "By his strips I am healed," and repeat them in your mind over and over each day. This also keeps your mind off your problems. Don't stop if it doesn't work after the first day. My Mantra is "Quicketh Thou me Lord, as thy had promised." To me it means to shot me up with life, and bring me into complete heath. Persitance is the answer.
This book also quotes from the Bible and then gives interpretations that seem logical and easy to believe and understand. The confession on your lips, and the belief in your heart that has grown out of faith, will defeat the negative in every sickness. Don't keep your eye on your symptoms, keep your eyes on God, or your higher being. It says if you keep your eyes on your symptoms, that show lack of faith, and this is one of the areas I was messing up in. Keep you mind on the end result.
This is an easy to read, easy to understand book, but don't let it's simplicity fool you, there are a lot of great insigths revealed inside. It helps you learn how to have your prayers answered.
Since I don't think I have every read a 5 star self help book, because they all lack something, and most come in at a 2, some good ones I star as a 3, but this one gets a 4. The Bible is probaly the only book I would rate as a 5 star.
This book, Christ The Healer, helped me in a lot of little ways, and helped me realize some of my mistakes and blocks, that were in the way of my healing. Now I just have to remember to do what the bookd suggests. Good luck.

Thankful I have been that I own this book by the great revivalist and Christian healer, F.F. Bosworth. In my work on the "Great Physician" who was suggested to Bill Wilson by his Christian psychiatrist William D. Silkworth, M.D., I came across this classic handbook about that "Physician." Bosworth ministered and healed by the power of God. He pointed to the specific verses in the Bible that clearly showed such healings had been accomplished because of the work of Jesus Christ and by the power of God. The Biblical foundations, the impediments to effective healing work, and the methodology of Christian healing are present in this book to guide, to provide, and to establish hope and the certainty of Christian healing. It is particularly important to my work on the history of early A.A. Christian cures and healings which made A.A. the stellar proof of God's power to help alcoholics. It is also important for those Christians and potential believers who are wondering if there is a Scriptural basis for Christian healings. There is. And I am one who has been healed, using the very methods described by Bosworth. I was also puzzled by the Oxford Group statements that the "Age of Miracles" has returned. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Was there some strange situation which negated the power of God for a span of centuries beginning after the First Century and continuing until the Oxford Group rediscovered the "return?" Here's what Bosworth said: "How absurd and ridiculous for any professed Bible Teacher to pick out this, the Miracle Worker's age, as the only age when miracles are not to be done! How absurd or such an one to teach that the Holy Spirit will work miracles in every age but His own age! which is a "better" dispensation, with "better" priest, "better covenant," "better" promises and "better" everything, than any previous age. Some talk as though the present age is not the Holy Spirit's age. There is but one Spirit dispensation, and that one lies between the first and second advents of our Lord." Now if God wrought miracles recorded in the Old Testament. If Jesus used the power of God to perform the healings recorded in the Gospels. If the Apostles and their followers did likewise after the day of Pentecost, and if people have been healing through the ages right up to now, where is there an excuse for the idea that alcoholics cannot be cured, cripples cannot be healed, or the dead cannot be raised today. The teachings of Jesus make it clear that we can do the things that he did, and greater things, because he went to the Father. I recommend Bosworth's book for its proofs, scholarship, and inspiration for those who need God's help and healings.
Great Content, Poor Binding.......2007-07-03
This book presents the case for one of the most overlooked, ignored, and misunderstood benefits of the gospel of Jesus Christ: divine healing for the physical body. The Greek word "sozo", translated "saved" in the New Testament, means "saved, healed or cured, delivered, made whole, and preserved." The American Christian Church at large has faith for God to save souls, but lacks knowledge, and, therefore, faith, regarding supernatural healing.
Bosworth leaves no question unanswered in this remarkable book, addressing the weak arguments tirelessly spouted by seminary professors who tend to de-supernaturalize the gospel. The testimonies chapter alone is worth the price of the book!
Five stars for content, one star for the publisher, Revell, a division of Baker Book House Co. The pages began falling out of the book at page 136 to the end. I returned the book to Amazon and they sent me a new one. The same exact problem repeated itself, and this time I called the publisher and complained. They graciously sent me a new copy, but I am afraid of experiencing this issue a third time.

'Born a Healer' offers a message of hope to everyone. The message is simple. Be kind, forgive (yourself & others) and love unconditionally. When you are kind to someone, they feel good and so do you. Feeling good inside aleviates stress and positively impacts your physical and mental health.
The book was easy to read and kept me engaged. I've already purchased this book for a friend who's husband has cancer. I plan to mail copies to other friends too.
The book left me curious about Spring Forest Qigong. I would love to meet Master Lin.

This is a very enlightening book, first because it gives a much clearer picture of Chunyi Lin and his previous life and second because of the opinions of the students. Through the book comes a quiet passion for qigong and a love for his fellowman, which is why what he does has such a powerful effect on others. Simple but NOT simplistic, the mark of a true master teacher.

From the moment I held this book, I knew this was the path I was to be on and this was the work I was meant to do. I attended Erics Level l/ll seminar last weekend in Nashville...and I had my personal Reconnection session in two days while there. All I can say is I have had a definate "shift" in my Being. I am no longer the person I was before I went there....It was a life changing, powerful,sacred,eye opening experience. Eric has an energy in his hands. I felt it...I still do...and I will be continuing with this work from now until the end of my days. If you are apprehensive about this..GOOD!! You should be...but I am here to tell you I have experience first hand what Eric does..and so did 200 others..in the Bible Belt of Nashville..and we were ALL touched by his work.
He is a very wonderful man...I suggest you go and see for yourself...Attend his "free" talk if you have any doubts...After you do, you no longer will. I promise you that!

There are many types of healings out there, and I am sure many more to come. Be wary of those that tell you their form is superior then all others.... while I did enjoy reading the book, and looked in to taking a workshop, I feel the entire reason for the book is to entice you to do the workshop ... the bottom line? to pay Dr. Pearl house payment. If you have interest and ability to do energy healing now, you might find interest in the book - and can expand on the energy healing you do now.

He makes it not scary for those with issues and gifts to do the work they came here to do. I don't think he is the "who said of the greatest magnitude" nor do I need his permission to continue my work. Just as he didn't get permission from a human. But there are those who need a person to validate their thoughts and there knowings to be able to believe in what they innately know. This is powerful and it is great but I was activated before the reconnection and was given some of the stuff before reading the book. Some by humans some not. But the book was still part of my journey and that is no small thing. Open your heart open your mind. There is much to see and feel and be.

I have often advised young people to travel the world, not as a tourist but for extended visits to immerse themselves in other cultures. If nothing else, the traveler encounters a diversity of beings and ways of living that change, to a greater or lesser degree, how one sees his or her normal life. New doors of perception open, new senses are enlivened, and when one returns "home" it is never quite the same as before. And that's what this book does to the spiritual or simply curious traveler.
Through young Markides' eyes, we stay at the home of a true magus, that is, one who understands how the life force operates beyond our normal perceptions. For the magus, it's somewhat of a workaday world of dealing with elemental beings, karmic energies (which he sometimes consciously "takes on" as a gift of mercy to others), and other forces of which we normal people are most often quite unaware. A magus, or magician, may be black (harmful) or white (helpful). In this case, get to see how a conscientious, helpful healer operates in a commonplace setting, surrounded by regular people. No pointy star-spangled hats or boiling pots of newts and goat hooves here. You'd walk right by him on the street.
This is a fascinating story sincerely chronicled by the author. We're given a peek behind the curtain of miracles and get a sense of how they happen, of what it takes (beyond the typical waving of a wand or sprinkling of stardust) to restore balance and healing where chaos and illness have prevailed. Especially in this age of preposterous medical costs and the pharmaceutical shroud blanketing our health care system, it's encouraging to encounter a practice of real healing knowledge that's not only priceless, but free.

Have you ever looked into the topic of energetic healing? Have you ever looked at biographies and autobiographies of healers? I have. I've read lots of them. And the "Magus of Strovolos", which is about "Stylianos Atteshlis", a Greek Cypriot healer who lived until the early 1990's, did what no single book has done that I've read so far. It tied everything together and proposed a truly complete view of things, from reincarnation and Karma, to healing, astral projection, to philosophy, to ethics necessary to move into the work. And, it was absolutely hilarious at times...
But before you decide that "funny" isn't a good thing in a book that covers this topic, let me tell you that it's not funny through and through. It's deadly serious at times. And the subject matter is so thought- provoking that I've found myself reading this book (and the subsequent two that are now out of print), several times, just to be sure that I didn't miss anything.

Even if you are just a lay person, you'll find this "Professional Development Course" well within your area of interest and understanding. I have heard all of Dr. Orloff's tapes and this one is the best! Maybe it's because she is more experienced at lecturing or maybe it's because she is among her peers, but her delivery is more relaxed and funloving, even though she is dealing with the most profound and serious encounters in our lives and answering very difficult questions. She is clear, informative, humorous, and supremely heartfelt.
Becoming an Intuitive Healer.......2007-04-13
While listening to this CD program, I felt an opening of both heart and mind. The wisdom, and the specific instructions in these presentations, can be life changing to the person who is ready to receive them. This is packaged as a professional development course for health practitioners. I am a lay person in that area, not a health care professional. Notwithstanding that, Dr. Orloff's program has added immeasurably to my awareness of how true healing works in the human mind, body and spirt.

Dr. Judith Orloff is one of my favorite doctors on the subject of intuitive healing. This is a great book even for non-medical professionals on the how and why of being an intuitive in a healing practice. I just loved this. Keep in mind that Dr. Orloff is still a licensed doctor as is Dr. Mona Lisa Schultz ... and this speaks volumnes for their personal credibility and integrity. A wonderful complement to the Positive Energy book. Dr. Orloff is teacher who is true to the Hippocratic Oath - Do no harm.

This CD set is fantastic. Dr Judith Orloff is an genuine healer and teacher. Attending this conference, learning the techniques, and then having them eloquently transposed into this program is a gift for everyone. We can all learn from Judith's messages of listening from the heart how to be healers in our life, regardless of what our profession is. The teaching is clear, concise, and informative. I recommend this for everyone. If you are not in a healing profession, after listening to this CD set you will be more in tune with what your medical care could be and should be.

This CD is VERY important for healers, many people go into the healing profession, ungrounded searching for proof of their own "specialness" Caroline is quick to deflate this notion. We are all gifted in our own ways, some as healers some not. The vocational draw that is ego driven- is not of service to others. Caroline Myss provides practical advice, myth debunking and drives people to be introspective. An essential componenet to those in the healing world. Those who are introspective, have ego strength and boundries will appreciate this compilation. If you are searching for a path to those qualities this is the CD for you. She is an honest and grounded speaker, much needed in the new age realm.

I typically enjoy Myss' work. This one stung a little I must say. She almost seemed angry at parts, but she regained her composure by realligning her chakras. *whew* Seriously, she has a strong opinion about "healers" and everyone else who is just a wanna-be. I did benefit and recieved valuable information about my craft as well as the person I am and want to grow to be. She definetly makes you look deep with in yourself and ask some serious questions, along with knocking anyone and everyone from their high horse. My horse thanks you Ms. Myss. I'll be in the corner, wiping my tears and trying to reallign my chakras....

With a title claiming "Essential Guide for Healers", and having high regard for some of her other works, I was excited to hear this set. I was expecting a positive, motivational, educational, enlightening experience - instead, I was weighed down with her seriously negative attitued about what healing artists other than herself were bringing to the world. It was painful, but I listened to the entire 4 discs, waiting for some of the kinds of gems that have come from her other works. The 3rd and 4th discs were somewhat less negative than the first two, but disappointing is the best one word review for this work. Wasted money - I don't even feel good about passing it along to anyone else.

To those that have given this one star, they are the people that Dr. Myss has offended because they feel lik ethe they need to be vegetarians and such to be healers. I am a physician and alsways thought of myself as a healer, but this calling is so much more.
Dr. Myss is an unbelievable resource, yet she pulls no punches and shoots right from the hip. If you do not like someone telling you exactly what they think then you may not lik eher approach. To all the people that gave a negative review, I say, you need to exapnd our first and second chakras and break outside of the security of the tribe and look for more in your lives. If you are an LMT and are just in this for the money then you have missed the boat, The same thing is true for a physician such as myself.

A HEALING POTPOURRI.......2007-08-30
Johnson has accumulated a number of fascinating stories regarding healers whose patients are actually healed. Their modalities are pretty far out, but who is to say that God must be stereotyped? I enjoyed all of the stories and having once been a program director for a holistic health center, I can attest that there is plausibility in all of these stories. Over the years and from my experiences and research, a healer is only a conduit. The patient actually heals him/her self. It is written: "It is done unto you as you believe." If the modality of healing is accepted by the patient, then the patient is healed. If the sickness re-occurs, then doubt and fear was allowed to come in. It is not the healer who failed, it is the lack of acceptance. The traditional medical modalities are rife with physicians who tell a patient they have only so many months, years to live and this is in effect, condemning the patient to death if the patient accepts the verdict. Medical schools have no idea about true healings. Pharmaceuticals are not the answer. Bettye Johnson, award-winning author, Secrets of the Magdalene Scrolls.

I am glad that Sandy Johnson wrote this book. It is engaging, interesting reading. But it is a bit thin, which is frustrating. It would be a better book if she had gone into more depth about each healer. Nevertheless, I am glad she has written what she has. The more information about extraordinary people like these, the better.

I just about gulped down Sandy Johnson's latest book, "The Brasilian Healer with the Kitchen Knife". I couldn't put it down once I'd opened the covers. Clearly the author made an amazing internal and external journey in order to write the book. She gives the reader a "behind the scenes" look into the world of healing and healers. Any skeptic who reads the book may well question his/her belief system, yet the writer was even handed in covering the subject.
Fascinating Profiles of Sixteen Holistic Healers.......2003-07-12
Sandy Johnson describes her magical journey around the world to meet and be treated by a variety of holistic healers in THE BRAZILIAN HEALER WITH THE KITCHEN KNIFE. Disillusioned to discover that traditional medical doctors offered only the vaguest assurances that her breast cancer would probably not recur, Johnson felt inspired to seek out healers who consider all aspects of an individual (not just the physical) when they heal. Beginning with tips Johnson received from the Native Americans she'd interviewed for her previous book, Johnson discovered a wonderfully diverse group of healers working with shamanic soul retrieval, alchemy, intuition, yoga, Kahuna, Australian Aboriginal, chiropractic, water, musical, and psychic surgery methods.

I too work in the medical profession in hospitals & learned about this book from one of my fellow coworkers. This book was a very good book & I really enjoyed Christel's case studies. I gave it 4.5 stars as I was hoping for more information on how to make changes in my life. This book is more a story of Christel's personal journey on becoming a medical intuitive.
After reading this book I wanted to read more of Christel Nani's book, so I got Guidance 24/7. That book focus' on how you can make changes in your life. I would highly recommend that you read Diary of a Medical Intuitive first, then read Guidance 24/7 on how to change your life. I can't wait to read Christel's newest book now.
I have read several of Caroline Myss' books & listened to her CD's. But Christel with her medical background has a very simple way of explaining things.
WOW Introduction to the Mind-Body Connection .......2007-04-28
This book is a WOW! I picked it up because I love reading about medicine, but I quickly found out this book goes way beyond that! It is a fascinating read about medicine, but in a different way! It's a really great introduction to the intriguing world of energy medicine and the mind-body connection. It is Christel's own story about growing into her amazing gift as a medical intuitive and has alot of great medical stories, but it has alot of information for the reader to take away and apply to their own life - positive changes in your beliefs will affect your health and your life in a positive way.
You will love this book if you are open to alternative therapies and realize that there is a whole other side to health, more than just traditional medicine. It is an excellent read - really accessible, and I have recommended it to so many people!

When I first started reading this book I was amazed at the many similarities with my life's path.
Christel Nani relates her journey in a way that resonated with mine. Her book is easy to understand.
She lays the foundation for a simply devine way to tap into our past so that we can take a good look at what is
keeping us from following not just our talents but our deserving bliss. It all makes sense that if we are so uneasy
in doing and being what we do and who we have become that we can create our dis-ease. Having seen her in person confirmed how talented she is in "knowing" what ails us. She is all-inspiring.

Found this book just when I needed it most.......2006-11-06
It's amazing that I found this book just at a time in my life where I was really questioning my connection to God. When I found this book it was so interesting and I could relate to so much of it that I couldn't put it down and I finished it in less than a weekend. Before I read this, my spiritual life seemed to suffer because I often questioned if God really loves me and cares about me. I felt very lonely, alone, and unheard. Christel explains why people feel this way and that there are ways we can treat this sort of "spiritual depression." Believe me, I have read a LOT of books by psychics, empaths, spiritual healing, Reiki, etc. A lot of stuff out there is recycled from previous authors. However, Christel's book is unique, no-nonsense, and to the point while still being very compassionate. I KNOW this is a God-send. This book has helped to give me hope and left me wanting to learn more about her healing techniques that I can practice on myself! In fact, talk about synchronicity: just as I finished reading her book, I found out she is doing a workshop next weekend less than an hour away from my home in California and this is a rare event! This is so meant to be and I am lucky to have found Christel's work.
