Book Description
Liposuction began as a contouring procedure but has evolved into the treatment of obese patients, gynecomastia, ptosis, macromastia, and even patients who have complications from heart disease or diabetes. Other disorders such as axillary sweat hypersecretion, lipomas, and angiomas are also potential disorders that may be treated with liposuction.
Physicians performing liposuction must be adequately trained and experienced in the potential and actual complications before attempting to perform liposuction. Patient safety is the most important aspect of all surgeries, but especially of cosmetic surgery, which is an elective procedure.
New technology helps improve results but experience, care, and skill of the cosmetic surgeon is necessary to obtain optimal results that satisfy the patient.
The contributors to this book have spent time and effort presenting the cosmetic and plastic surgeon as much information as possible on the techniques and uses of liposuction for cosmetic and non-cosmetic surgery purposes.

What a Book - a must BUY.......2003-10-31
The author takes an revolutionary approach to restoring anterior teeth, a Biomimetic approach. The author goes back to basics and studies nature i.e. the form and function of natural teeth. He then studies how each tissue (dentine/enamel) behaves mechanically (when loaded) and where the forces and stresses concentrate. These findings then lay the foundation as to how teeth should be restored i.e. should they be restored so they are as strong as nature (mimic natures strength) or stronger. The author tends to favour the former approach, and goes about outlining materials and design principles that will achieve this result. He presents an extremely interesting method and commonsense approach to restoring teeth. By reading this book, it allows us to reflect upon the potential disasters (verticle root fractures, decorination) that may be caused by restoring teeth in the traditional way (crowns & posts) whereby making them stronger than nature.
You must have this book.......2002-06-23
This book is a must have if you enjoy doing bonded porcelain restorations and you want to see how a master does it. The lab work is unbelievable and the photography is excellent. Its like having an Ansel Adams book: you have to see how the best do it so that you have something to aspire to.
The cost is pretty high, but so what. You will want to take notes when you read this. If you are really flush with cash, buy one for your lab tech.

Book Description
Mesotherapy - the microinjection of a combination of conventional medications and vitamins into the middle layer of skin - has a long history in France since its invention in 1952 and its formal recognition by national medical bodies in 1986. Its benefits for cosmetic and other medical indications are now increasingly being recognized beyond Europe, and the techniques are now spreading in popularity throughout the rest of the world. This pioneering text brings the established results of the accumulated clinical experience in this exciting area to the attention of an English-speaking audience.
Customer Reviews:
Well referenced and good overview..........2007-07-31
There's a great contrast between the popluarity of mesotherapy in South America and France and even southern Florida compared with most of the United States.
Good evidence including pathology shows how it works to spot reduce fat. This is the best text I've seen on the subject, but as a physician who practices mesotherapy, I'd highly suggest that you use the book as an overview and reference and then go to one of the training centers recommended at the back of the book for training.
There's a great lag for most new treatments: ten years to prove a therapy works and is safe and another 10 years for it to become common practice. Since mesotherapy was introduce in France in 1952, there's been and unusual delay in acceptance in the U.S that baffles me.
This book gives good photos of the side effects of the stratgey and introduces physicians to the hows and whys. Hopefully, the book will help bring mesotherapy into a more accepted postion to make it more widely available.
The book is proably more than most people would want to read unless they are physicians or nurses. But, it might be worth skimming through even if you're just contemplating the procedure. I certainly would be glad if any of my patients read it from cover to cover; I would know that they understood the risks and benefits better than most physicians.
If you want to see some actual research, you can find pathology reports posted on my website (see my profile here on Amazon).

This volume is a complete how-to guide to an innovative facial restoration strategy that combines microsurgical reconstruction and cosmetic surgery to restore both function and aesthetic appearance to disfigured faces. Illustrated with over 400 lifelike color drawings and patient photographs, the book demonstrates the techniques of aesthetic facial restoration and shows how to repair defects in every part of the face.Dr. Rose gives detailed instructions on the design and use of prepatterned microvascular flaps to replace components of the face. Meticulous drawings with clear plastic overlays depict the anatomy of free flap transfers to complex facial defects. Close attention is given to the use of three-dimensional imaging and computer-generated models in surgical planning. Smile!: The Ultimate Guide to Achieving Smile Beauty
ASIN: 0867152915 |
Customer Reviews:
What Every Smiler Already Knows and Every Frowner Should.......2006-05-04
This book should be looked at by every person who is thinking about having cosmetic or esthetic dentistry done.
If you are considering crowns, veneers, dental implants discuss your options with your dentist. Asking lots of questions is imperative. But what questions do you ask? How do you know what to expect. Paging through this informative text with amazing illustrations is one of the best ways to start.
Dr. Goldstein begins his book by explaining that "like it or not, we live in a beauty conscious society. Not all of the beautiful people were born that way."
The dentist can help you achieve that beautiful first impression; that is, extenuate the positive force of your smile. Careful consideration is given to removing stains on teeth, repairing fractured and crooked teeth, filling in gaps in your smile and helping with bite problems.
"Change Your Smile" should be common reading in every cosmetic dental practice, which means all dental offices. Informing yourself on what is possible makes the end result that much more positive.
most comprehensive selfassessment book in cosmetic dentisty.......1997-04-21
This book is an excellent description of the extensive renge of issues dealing with changing the appearance of a patient's smile. The book is clear about its objectives and is very easy for anyone to read and follow. After reading this book, patients can easily decide whether they are candidates for cosmetic dentistry and get a reasonably good idea of the procedures involved. The author has discussed several treatment options for every situation, and he has included self-evaluations for patients to use in making informed decisions. An introductory chapter of relating the smile to the entire face presents a unique perspective. Dr. Goldstein discusses contemporary interdisciplinary approaches in creating different aesthetic effects. The explanations are accompanied by excellent illustrations that demonstrate the changes possible by procedures in modern dentistry and medicine.
Often the patient and the doctors are not on the same page as far as the patient's chief complaint is concerned. This may lead to a situation in which the treatment provided may be superior; however, the treatment did not address the patient's chief complaint, leading to the patient's being dissatisfied. This book may provide the critical link to complete the communication circuit between the doctor and the patient. After reading it, patients can have a better understanding of their problems, the steps required to address these problems, and the advantages and disadvantages of each procedure.Further, details of expenses provide the consumer with an idea of the financial commitment involved. In summary, this 324-page hardcover book with 575 high quality illustrations is the most comprehensive and clear presentation of an important self-assessment tool used in cosmetic dentistry. A must-read for patients, students, and clinicians involved with cosmetic dentistry.......reviewed for the Journal of the American Dental Association by Dr. Pramod K. Sinha, Assistant Professor, Univ. of Oklahoma College of Dentistry, April l99
This is the ultimate consumer guide to cosmetic dentistry.......1996-12-06
This book lets you analyze your smile and come up with the most practical solutions for whatever smile problem you have. There doesn't seem to be anything left out of the cosmetic problems and solutions to a better smile.....and a more attractive face as well. This is because there are chapters that involve the role of facial plastic surgery, orthognathic(done by the oral surgeon) surgery, and cosmetology. It contains a simple smile analysis in the first chapter and logically helps you understand what your problem or problems are. It is easy to comprehend what your choices are because both the patient photographs and illustrations are so easy to understand. In each treatment summary the author describes not only what the result can look like but more importantly, the maintenance required with each restoration as well as a realistic range of fees and life expectancy. Too often people fail to get what they want mostly because they really don't know what they want, and they don't know how to get it. The best way is to take this book with you to your dentist!!!

Awesome Smile Guide for Patients and Dentists.......2007-01-10
This book written by the Extreme Makeover Dentist himself, Dr. Bill Dorfman, is awesome from front to back. I am a dentist and I have them in my treatment rooms for patients to read. Many of my patients expressed how awesome this book is. I recommend it to everyone in my field as well as the patient who wants great information on what their smile can look like with a smile makeover. Dr. Dorfman's book is a 5 Star!!
Outstanding book for patients and dentists alike!.......2007-01-01
This book is an excellent consumers guide to help eduate patients about how they can achieve the beautiful, healthy smile of their dreams. Dr. Dorfman does an outstanding job of simplifying what can be a complex and confusing subject for the public. It is clear that Dr. Dorfman is passionate about helping patients and that tone is evident throughout this book. A 'must read' for anyone interested in how modern dentistry can help them look and feel their best.
not entirely accurate.......2006-11-07
FYI Dorfman owns Discus dental (Zoom whitening) which he repeatedly mentions in his book. He claims that the Zoom laser provides a 26 percent improvement for in office bleaching. This is entirely untrue. Numerous studies have shown that any laser (be it zoom, sapphire etc) does not have a substantial increase in the efficacy of bleaching. It was previously thought that the light would heat up the peroxide and the heated peroxide would have increased bleaching power. However the light has the side effect of heating up your teeth and increasing the likelyhood of sensitivity. In office bleaching is harsh enough and light only increases the sensitivity. Unless someone is strapped for time, I would suggest custom trays over in office. If you choose in office, I would stay away from the laser. Most of the statements in his book are accurate, however some (including this one and more) aren't entirely true. However, the average reader would never know it...

Book Description
Fillers in Aesthetic Medicine is an excellent and comprehensive overview on the clinical use of fillers in aesthetic medicine. It is designed to assist dermatologists as well as plastic surgeons in the aesthetic medical treatment of their patients.
Based on evidence-based medicine guidelines, the first part of the book describes the most common fillers, the characteristics of their substance as well as their efficacy and safety.
In a step-by-step approach the second part shows how to use the fillers for the most common indications of the aging face, such as: glabella, nasolabial folds, cheeks, lips, and marionette lines.
All specific aesthetic procedures such as enhancing cheekbones or raising nose tips are described with a hands-on approach.
Last but not least, the third part includes useful information on relevant combination therapies, i.e. combining fillers with botulinum toxin A, with peeling/lasers as well as plastic surgery.

Basic.......2007-03-11
I found this book to be very basic. It did provide practical information in filler composition but nothing in the way of technique. The content was sparse and disappointing.
