Even well-versed Biblical scholars might be perplexed if asked about Jabez, a little-known man listed in 1 Chronicles, chapter 4. Yet his simple petition is the cornerstone of The Prayer of Jabez and has become a call to live a more "blessed life" for countless readers.

The prayer is a simple one: "And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, 'Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain.' So God granted him what he requested."

In an era where many Christians shy away from anything that smacks of "name it and claim it," author Bruce Wilkinson alleviates misgivings by putting the prayer into perspective. Wilkinson, founder and president of Walk thru the Bible Ministries and a popular speaker for Promise Keepers, writes in a persuasive, conversational style that will woo even the most cynical reader. He has used the Jabez prayer for more than 30 years, and testifies enthusiastically to the changes it has wrought in his own life. Wilkinson challenges readers to recite the Jabez prayer every morning and keep a record of the changes that occur. The power, he emphasizes, is not in the prayer itself, but "rather, the power is in what you believe will happen as a result of the prayer, and the action you take." Wilkinson makes a convincing case. --Cindy Crosby

I promised myself I'd read this for a dear friend who asked me when he was passing away. I kept my promise, almost. I read 75% of it but never really got the prayer deal other than bless me and bless me some more. Sorry folks but I dont see what the hoopla is about?

This is a marvelous gem of a book with the potential to change the world

1 out of 5 stars What did it accomplish?.......2007-04-29

I was just talking with my men's Bible study group about this very book. I remember when it swept through the church like wild fire. We recited it at my church every week. What exactly was the lasting legacy of this book? Nothing...nothing at all except it sold quite a few books and calenders. Actually, it might have indeed left a legacy...Bless me God, bless me...give me more and bless me indeed...ME
ME...ME...The prosperity preachers abounding today say similar things.

5 out of 5 stars Little Book---Big Message.......2007-03-15

I was a little taken aback when I read some of the negative reviews on this book. It inspired me and I keep a copy of it in my car so I can have it's message and 'the prayer' handy. Christians, just like anyone, sometimes feel burnout or frustration. For me, this was the bellows that blew on my heart to rekindle the flames of belief.

3 out of 5 stars Look for a book with more depth.......2007-01-12

This book was given to my wife as a Christmas present by the youth coordinator at our church. It's a very short book - only 92 pages - that can be read in just a short time. It is a light and easy read for a long afternoon.

Bruce Wilkinson takes the prayer said by Jabez in 1 Chronicles 4:10 and explains how praying this prayer can greatly change things in your life and bring blessings to yourself. Some may find the prayer to be a bit selfish, but if the blessings you receive are used in the right way it can surely be used to God's advantage.

The book is an easy and light read and there are plenty of good points about prayer. I like Jabez's prayer and it is one that I may apply in my personal prayer life. But the book failed to really spark anything in my soul. Maybe if I apply the prayer long enough this opinion may change, but for now, I've certainly read other books which have lit my soul on fire and really push me to make a difference in myself for the glory of God. I'm also a bit weary of Wilkinson's translations of what the prayer really means. There are no supporting facts to back up Wilkinson's claims of Jabez's meaning of the prayer. I would recommend this book maybe to a new believer just to give them a jump start with prayer (the book does encourage you to pray every day). But for someone who is looking for more depth in their prayer life, I'd suggest other books on the subject.

Book Description

One of the world's most influential environmentalists reveals a worldwide grassroots movement of hope and humanity

Blessed Unrest tells the story of a worldwide movement that is largely unseen by politicians or the media. Hawken, an environmentalist and author, has spent more than a decade researching organizations dedicated to restoring the environment and fostering social justice. From billion-dollar nonprofits to single-person causes, these organizations collectively comprise the largest movement on earth. This is a movement that has no name, leader, or location, but is in every city, town, and culture. It is organizing from the bottom up and is emerging as an extraordinary and creative expression of people's needs worldwide.

Blessed Unrest explores the diversity of this movement, its brilliant ideas, innovative strategies, and centuries-old history. The culmination of Hawken's many years of leadership in these fields, it will inspire, surprise, and delight anyone who is worried about the direction the modern world is headed. Blessed Unrest is a description of humanity's collective genius and the unstoppable movement to re-imagine our relationship to the environment and one another. Like Hawken's previous books, Blessed Unrest will become a classic in its field— a touchstone for anyone concerned about our future.

5 out of 5 stars Creating a base of solid ground for The Movement.......2007-10-04

This work by Paul Hawken is so affirming and awe inspiring it should be rated 10 stars. It creates a base of solid ground for the thousands of strands of The Movement to join hands and connect and move out from.

I would suggest reading the introduction to The Appendix first to get an understanding of what Hawken and all who contributed to the effort have accomplished. Browse through The Appendix, discover what it means and what it represents. Then read the last chapter. Then start over at the beginning of the book. As you are reading note Hawken's reminders of the importance of singing and dancing along with all the hard work.

Not only are organizations interwoven in this work, but authors, thinkers, poets whom I have loved through the years are referenced and quoted. Again tying strands together. This book is a blessed gift.

4 out of 5 stars The Unconquered Underground.......2007-09-22

This book surely deserves its nearly universal praise, but I'm going to have to throw a wrench into the works by pointing out a few of its structural flaws. As a widely-read conservationist I can credit Paul Hawken as one of the best modern writers and thinkers on our movement, and his classic "Natural Capitalism" is my absolute all-time favorite from the genre. "Blessed Unrest" will surely be a groundbreaker and it could seriously be influential for millions of people for decades to come. But the proof is actually in the appendix (which takes up more than a third of the book), while the main text is faintly disappointing in a few structural ways. In a nutshell, the relatively short main text covers Hawken's research into the quietly rising social movement around the world of literally millions of small organizations that are combining environmentalism, civil rights, and social justice in ways that are revitalizing democracy, conservation, and the human spirit for volunteerism. Most importantly, this movement utilizes ideas and not ideologies, and is inclusive rather than exclusive.

This is a crucially important topic and Hawken is doing the world a great service by bringing this immense but little-respected mass movement into the light. However, only one chapter in the book's main text ("Immunity") and a few other passages really focus specifically on this great movement and how exemplary groups are creating real change. Instead, most of the main text functions as a lengthy introduction that accomplishes little more than a set-up for the appendix. Hawken fills these pages with a fairly standard history of the environmental movement and the latest developments in conservationist philosophy. Of course this material is informative and necessary, but similar information can be found in myriad other books, and here it becomes quite predictable and detracts from the specifics of the unique worldwide movement that this book is supposed to be about. Thus the book becomes a bit of a disappointment for those who have been attracted by its promotional materials, which promise coverage of the movement itself, not its less specific historical underpinnings.

With that being said, the book is saved by the immense appendix, which is built from the crucial and valuable database of small worldwide organizations at the WiserEarth website. Here we can see the movement in full flower, with a useful categorization of volunteer efforts into a mindboggling array of topics that combine conservation of the Earth's gifts and justice for humanity. This book will be vastly influential merely for drawing attention to this outstanding online resource. Overall, Hawken remains at the top of the heap for influential and inspirational conservationist writers, but just beware of this book's structural limitations. [~doomsdayer520~]

5 out of 5 stars A thought provoking and revealing book, an absolute masterpiece by a genuis.......2007-09-14

After many years of reading, one book stands out, this is it, this is one of the best books that I have ever read, it reveals many truths not found in regular books, like where we are heading as human beings, and about how we are destroying the environment and upsetting the fragile ecological balance of mother earth etc. I've been book marking many pages and am amazed by the wisdom and inspiration of this book.

It mentions how civilizations, species, indigenous people and cultures are being destroyed by greed and materialism, by most of us, it talks about Columbus and colonialism and how it has destroyed entire cultures and civilizations, quote "Native people have remarked that, of the many promises made by white men, the only one that they kept was the vow to take their land"

Most popular books available today are about "How to succeed", "How to make more money" "How to open a franchise" " "How to market", "How to get an MBA" etc, there are very few books on morality, wisdom, truth, divinity, modesty, humbleness, respect, protection of the environment, protection of animals etc.

It reminds us that from our very first day at school, through high school and college, we are mostly taught about making money and materialism, getting and spending etc, we have thus become modern day slaves to banks and the wealthy in the form of mounting debt, we are debt ridden all our lives and it takes a lifetime to pay off this debt, part of the ultimate consumer society.

Today, markets and currencies are manipulated by wealthy nations, and poorer nations are at the mercy of industrialized nations, sadly poorer countries are exploited by trading their minerals, diamonds, gold, raw materials, forests etc. by wealthier nations and are paid for in kind by weapons and armaments, which are then used for committing genocide on their own people while wealthy nations enjoy all the material comforts and luxurious life at the expense of the poor.

Hawkens mentions that businesses talk about adding value and making higher profits to satisfy shareholders, but at what price, profit without consequence is what they are practicing, they do not think about the destruction to the environment and natural resources, the practice of a 'profits at any cost' will lead to a scorched earth, which threatens our very existence on planet earth.

Globalization only benefits wealthy and highly industrialized nations, it results in exploitation of resources in poorer nations, destroying their cultures, natural resources and the environment so that more profits can be made by the wealthy, i.e. profits without shame, the best example is China, which has the worst human right's record and worker abuses bordering on slavery, only a handful of wealthy Chinese folks and the Communist Party are benefiting from it, what a pity. Globalization is the modern day equivalent of imperialism and colonization, sadly the rich get richer and the poor suffer.

Paul Hawkens is a true visionary and a genius, this book has many spiritual insights. it should become a prescribed text book in high schools and colleges around the world.

5 out of 5 stars A RAY OF HOPE IN THIS PROFIT-BEFORE -PEOPLE WORLD.......2007-09-13

I have just read and am happy to recommend Blessed Unrest: How the Largest Movement in the World Came into Being and Why No One Saw It Coming. " Blessed Unrest" is that restlessness and energy that humans of conscience and good will experience when they encounter such evils as injustice, poverty, and wanton damage to the environment.

Author Paul Hawken posits a worldwide coalescing (aided by the World Wide Web) of over a million grass-roots organizations, non-government organizations, relief agencies, and a few enlightened persons and organizations of wealth and influence (e.g., Warren Buffett, the Omidyar Network), each with its special focus, but all sharing a vision of a healed and equitable earth. He likens this unrest to the body's little understood but marvelously effective immune system

This book is partly about profits-before-people social injustice, and climate change, and it cites at length the many shocking global injustices and environmental catastrophes caused by governments (including ours), transnational corporations, the military, and so on. Although you may know of some such instances, Hawken details many examples you may not have known before, concerning Bechtel, The IMF, Exxon-Mobile and Conoco, the World Bank, The WTO, and many others. For example. he describes at length how the massive peaceful demonstrations at WTO's Third Ministerial in Seattle in 1999 were turned into "riots" by over-reactive police and sensationalist reporting by the media.

Another example: The World Bank forced Bolivia (the 5th poorest nation in the world) to privatize a water system to a company partially owned by multinational corporation Bechtel, resulting in water rates to Bolivia's poor becoming higher than for wealthy Bechtel executives living near San Francisco

Hawken holds up two bright red flags regarding our future. In 2005, the Millenium Ecoystem Assessment report, a consensus representing over 1,000 international scientists, concluded that the earth is rapidly losing its ability to support life as we know it due to pollution and environmental degradation and could soon enter a precipitous decline. The second red flag is the separate and rapidly increasing threat of climate change, a human-caused phenomenon recently emphasized in the media. His conclusion is that in order to preserve and heal the earth, and its climate, we must simultaneously address and heal social injustices, including of poverty, ignorance, biases of race, religion, nationality, and culture.

You may read other reviews of this book by Googling the author and title. Hawken is also the author of Natural Capitalism, which former President Clinton has named one of the five most important books in the world today. In its exposition of the world-wide "underground" massing of forces of social change, Blessed Unrest is the only recent book of this kind I have read that gives me a shred of hope for the future.

One caution: as you read, have a good dictionary at your side, unless such words as eutrophication and fungible are part of your daily word bank. For sure, Hawken has not written Blessed Unrest for Dummies. But please consider reading this book; it is informative, hopeful, and important.

This is an excellent book for those trying to discover God's blessings on their lives. It explores not only the importance of giving but the motivation behind that giving. I highly recommend it!

Excellent book, if you want to change your financial outlook, giving is the best way and this book shows you how your life and finances will be blessed in return.

5 out of 5 stars A guide to a truly "blessed" life........2007-03-08

Robert Morris has an insight only gained by real life experiences. This book gives the formula for a guaranteed blessed life. I strongly recommend that you get the DVD (also by Robert Morris) that goes with the book. Read a chapter and then watch the corresponding chapter on the DVD. It is an excellent way to learn what is truly God's plan for your life. The formula is simple and easy to do. All it requires is getting your priorities straight. If you want to stay "in his grip", this is how.

2 out of 5 stars "Swallow it Whole"?.......2007-02-24

My husband and I weren't sure whether this book, recommended for reading by our elders to the whole congregation, was a "swallow it whole" situation or a "chew up the meat and spit out the bones"-type read. After chapters 2-4, we found it an exciting and inspirational look at Holy Spirit-led giving; however, Pastor Morris' insistence on a legalistic "tithing" being the base for Christian giving spoils the whole message. Like most tithing teachers, he takes Bible verses out of context, "reads into" verses and events, and omits relevant passages in order to create support for his doctrine. I am grieved that new Christians are going to have their consciences oppressed by some of the concepts and instructions in this book. Please be like the Bereans and "examine the Scriptures daily, to see whether these things are so". (Acts 17:11)

Less time, more demands, jealous siblings, displaced spouses, bigger bills, and bigger automobiles: given all these cons, why on earth would any sane couple consider having more than one child? Author Joan Leonard deals readers a rather loaded deck of cards as she succinctly describes the joys--but mostly the burdens--of "welcoming" a second child to the family. Despite its sweet title, this little book takes a rather acrid look at the unique challenges second-time moms and dads encounter. Luckily for the reader, Leonard presents plenty of advice from pediatricians, gynecologists, family therapists, and parents who have been through it themselves. Topics cover changes couples face during pregnancy, birth, and all of baby number two's first year.

A confessed firstborn herself, Leonard openly admits she did not enjoy being knocked off her proverbial pedestal when "The Other One," her own baby sister, arrived. Perhaps that's why this former contributing editor to Parent's Magazine and author of Tales from Toddler Hell seems to take such glee in reporting the many stresses and strains caused by adding to the family. Don't expect any gloppy, saccharin-tainted anecdotes from Leonard's contributing parents, either. Their "Tips from the Trenches" offer important food for thought about maternity leave and treating your spouse as a mate rather than as a business partner. Some of Leonard's own advice about appeasing the oldest child--like asking if the newborn can wear his or her outgrown clothes rather than just making it happen--lean a little too far toward spoiling. Most helpful are Leonard's chapters on assessing the first labor and delivery and taking steps to ensure a better one the second time around and her final chapter on effective family management. --Liane Thomas

With warmth, inspiration, and humor, Leonard carefully examines the brand new family of four and what to expect as it evolves during the first weeks, the first months, and finally that first year.AUTHORBIO: Joan Leonard is a former contributing editor of Parents magazine and the author of What to Do to Improve Your Child's Manners and Tales from Toddler Hell. Customer Reviews:

2 out of 5 stars Disappointed.......2007-09-15

I bought this book in eager (happy!) anticipation of my second child. However, after only reading the first 7 pages of the book, I stopped. The Author seemed to hyper-focus on all of the negative aspects of being pregnant and took the attitude "why would anyone ever do this again!" I find that pretty silly and immature. You're a Mom. Being a Mom is tough. Get over it, honey.

I wanted a book that talked about some serious differences between my first and second pregnancy - not a book that talked me INTO having the second one. I'm already pregnant... and HAPPY about it!

If you were one of those women who complained about every aspect of being pregnant and then complained about every aspect of being a new Mom, this book is for you! You will be in good company. If you are a strong woman who is confident in your mothering skills and family planning choices, you will find this book negative, trite and immature.

5 out of 5 stars Easy read.......2007-08-19

This is a great book that is easy to read. It helps you get ready for the new little one!

3 out of 5 stars A bit disappointing.......2007-03-08

As I was reading this, I kept waiting for the part where I was going to feel better about having a second child. Instead, I was laid in bed with eyes wide open. It seemed to be all truthful, but I was looking to set my mind at ease and it never happen.

5 out of 5 stars Realistic view, good coverage, I feel much more prepared now.......2006-08-25

I read the other reviews before purchasing the book and was drawn more to it because of the great difference in opinions, either hating or loving the book. I think the book is very good and provides a realistic, balanced view. Instead of being more anxious, negative or even regretful after reading it, I felt calm and more prepared.
Good coverage and worth reading several times. I'd highly recommend it.

4 out of 5 stars Review.......2006-07-27

some very useful hints for older child when bringing baby home. most of it is common sense, but there are some good ideas i am using. Some of the anecdotes are comical.

Note, the content is almost identical to "And Baby Makes Four".

5 out of 5 stars The Life of the Blessed Virgin Mary by Ann Catherine Emmerick.......2007-02-09

I know this book. It is extremely valuable in content and articulation.

I need to alert someone about the fact I tried to order 2 of these books besides the bood on Mary Magdalen by the same author, bringing my purchase over $20.00, thus avoiding shipping charges. I hope this is understood. Del Rhames

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful..........2006-12-30

Our Lady is shown in her real life... Mary is so holy, I just wish everyone could read this book. The Blessed Mother is so generous to us, she gives us so many messages. I am so grateful for all that God has given me through His Ever-Virgin Immaculate Mother Mary!

4 out of 5 stars Wonderful Detailed Descriptions!.......2006-06-30

This book provides great detailed descriptions of the Life of Our Lady and her ancestors as well as the events surrounding what constitutes the Joyful Mysteries as well as the Assumption. It provides great insight into what it was like to live in those times and is good background reading when read along with the Bible. Sometimes the detail does seem too much and can make for boring reading but this is only so for a few chapters. Recommended!

5 out of 5 stars Fascinating.......2005-09-07

I bought this book because I wanted to learn more about the Blessed Virgin Mary. There is not a lot of mention of her in the Bible and I was curious because this book is written "from the visions of Ven. Anne Catherine Emmerich." As I expected this is much more than someone's fictional interpolation of the scant Biblical information. It is actually an on-going interview with the very ill Emmerich. There is a lot of repetition because her words are not often edited but she tells some amazing information much of which is verified by ancient writings other than the Bible. This gives credibility to her "fly on the wall" observations of Mary, Joseph, the three wise men and even St. John the Baptist and why he grew up in the desert. It was fascinating.

3 out of 5 stars Find out more about Mary.......2004-03-13

Catherine Emmerich's book of private revelation about Mary tells us much about her life. But reading it raises a thirst to know more about why Mary and Joseph lived together as celibates. While Emmerich's book is a good start, it is only a start. It doesn't answer important questions concerning, such as:

How could their marriage be a true marriage if it was never consummated?

What was it about their life together that made such a thing not only possible, but desirable?

How can I translate the life Emmerich describes into an example for my daily life?

Where do we go for answers like these?

If you would like to find out more about the Blessed Virgin, Joseph and the Holy Family, if you want to know how every family is an image not only of the Holy Family, but of God Himself, consider Sex and the Sacred City by Steve Kellmeyer (ISBN 0971812810). Using easy, clear language, it explains why the Mary and Joseph were necessarily celibate, how the Holy Family is reflected in the lives of spouses who DO have sexual relations, why Pope John Paul II calls sex between married spouses "liturgical" and how our married life reflects the relationship Christ the Bridegroom has with each of us.

In the course of providing these explanations, Sex and the Sacred City also describes for every adult how we can live out the life of God in our own bodies, whether we are single or married. In this way, we see how to live out Jesus' example in our daily lives.

Get behind the descriptions and discover the depths of God's Passion for us!

Book Description

Blessed Are the Foals has been revised and updated to give those who care for the young equine from birth through its first year of life the information they need to make that critical period successful. Once again, Dr. M. Phyllis Lose draws on her decades of experience in equine veterinary practice to explain how to evaluate the foal's health and to recognize when professional help is needed. Profusely illustrated with photographs taken in her practice, Dr. Lose describes in simple, easy-to-understand language for owners, foaling attendants and caregivers what is normal or typical and how to troubleshoot situations that depart from the norm. Beginning with the delivery, emergencies such as failure to breathe, to rise and to nurse are addressed along with such problems as infections and congenital, hereditary and developmental conditions. Other topics include medication and diet—with the emphasis on foal nutrition to meet the changing needs of the newborn—exercise and the special needs of the premature, twin, orphaned and rejected foal. In addition, Dr. Lose discusses current veterinary and husbandry practices and gives candid judgments about their efficacy. Blessed Are the Foals is, in effect, the companion volume to Dr. Lose's Blessed Are the Brood Mares—the acknowledged classic on the breeding and care of mares through gestation. Yet again Dr. Lose's expertise, compassion and loving regard for all horses is apparent, along with her desire to offer support to all who would look after them.

5 out of 5 stars The Best.......2002-04-11

Anyone who owns, breeds or cares for horses, this is a must have book. Dr. Lose V.M.D. is a very caring veterinarian who has helped me out tremendously!

4 out of 5 stars A good book with it's own opinions.......2000-02-02

This book focuses almost exclusively on the foal. Dr. Lose has written another book, Blessed are the Brood mares, to cover the mare half of foaling. I enjoyed this book, but found it a bit spare on the actually foaling procedure. It extensively covers diseases and illnesses ... something that occurs, but not to all of us. I would have preferred more time spent on how to keep the foal healthy and happy. I'll call the vets over if my foal gets sick and I'll trust their opinion the best. Dr. Lose covers a long length of time in the foal's life, examining vaccinations during the first year, handling the foal (limited), turning the mare and foal out (some good tips there), and feeds. She is an advocate of early weaning of the foal at 3 months of age. This is a debatable practice, but if you are interested in it, she seems to have her reasoning explained.

5 out of 5 stars Blessed Are The Foals.......2000-01-31

Please check used book stores for this book..would appreciate any info as to its availibility

5 out of 5 stars A must have.......1999-07-25

A must have book for anyone considering breeding a mare or buying a foal. It picks up where Blessed are the Brood Mares, another must have, leaves off. It is very informative, but doesn't doesn't go above your head.

5 out of 5 stars A Life of Contradictions.......2005-06-14

This is book is written in the format of a novel, but with Bernadette's actual words. This was a very satisfying hagiography, because it gave, I feel, a realistic portrait of Bernadette. Often, saints' biographies tend to make the saint out as more angelic than human. The author, for the most part, avoids this annoying habit. There are also many interesting photos, which add to the feeling of the "authenitic" Bernadette.
In sum, I would definitely reccommend this book for anyone truly interested in the life, words, and spirit of the peasant girl from Lourdes who was graced with the presence of the "the Immaculate Conception".

Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars Pre-cursor to "The Secret"! Not a compliment!.......2007-06-21

I have nothing against game shows, some are fun. But this book makes God out to be a celestial Monty Hall, ready to give out favors if we can only pull the correct trinket out of our spiritual wallet or handbag. I can't think of a single religion that is as self-centered as the author's take on Christianity.Isn't religion about gaining understanding and developing a relationship with God? This book makes God out to be a sugar daddy! Read a bit of "Psalms" every morning instead of misguided efforts like this one.

4 out of 5 stars An Eyeopener.......2004-08-31

A friend of mine recommended this book and I could say that it is an instant eye opener of how we should pray to God. Jabez's prayer is a simple yet powerful one. I've tried it ever since I read the book, and it has worked for me. Miracles really happen through prayer.

5 out of 5 stars insightful and helpful.......2004-02-08

There is much to be learned from this wonderful 31 day devotional, not only in what it teaches, but in the questions it asks one to think about, and seek the answer within.
It is a helpful companion piece to Dr. Wilkinson's "The Prayer of Jabez", his first book in "The BreakThrough Series" ("Little Books/Big Change").
The format is excellent, dividing the month into weeks, each week focusing on a part of the Jabez prayer:
# 1, "O Lord, Bless Me Indeed !"; # 2, "O Lord, Enlarge My Borders !"; # 3, "O Lord, Put Your Hand upon Me !", and # 4, "O Lord, Keep Me from Evil !".
For each day there are 3 pages which include Dr. Wilkinson's insightful piece, 2-3 marvelous quotes from other sources that apply to the theme of the day, and a question for one to dig deep into one's motives and activities, and use as a springboard for the journaling one does afterwards.

The prayer of Jabez, from 1 Chronicles 4:10, is life changing, similar in so many ways to The Lord's Prayer ((Matt. 6:9-13), and the full understanding of it seems to only come when one is ready for it, and prepared to serve the Lord in a larger capacity. Many misunderstand it, thinking the blessings asked for are for one's own gratification, but this is not the case. The lesson of Jabez is in doing more for the Lord, as stated on pg. 54, "God wants you to urgently desire a larger life with more opportunities to serve Him".
A well constructed and aesthetically pleasing little book, with light peachy-beige marbleized pages and dark brown easy-to-read print, reading this every morning for a month is time put to good use. For a powerful 365 day devotional, I highly recommend Oswald Chambers' "My Utmost for His Highest".

5 out of 5 stars PARADIGM SHIFT FOR CHRISTIANS.......2002-06-18

The Prayer of Jabez Devotional is even more powerful than the original introductory book. Using practical and reachable illustrations the author(s) brings accross an all important truth: "God wants to bless us indeed, in spite of ourselves, notwithstanding what we may do or who we really are." It takes the simple act of asking, beleiving that He will, and allowing Him to use us to accomplish and attain the unimaginable. Sounds pretty simple, but we have failed to get it for so many years.

This devotional not only enlightens Christians to the incredible possibilities that are theirs for the asking, but it gives a new perspective on what God is capable of doing with and for us. All it takes is a shift in paradigm.

5 out of 5 stars A short, but life changing message........2001-11-28

"Oh that thou wouldst bless me and enlarge my border, and that thy hand might be with me, and that thou wouldst keep me from harm so that it might not hurt me!" And God granted what he asked." 1 Chronicles 4:10

Next to the basic message of salvation, this must be one of the most powerful messages from God I have come accross.

My life has been dramatically changed since I read this book and applied its wisdom.

Dr Wilkenson uses his very pleasant narrative style to show to his readers the power of a short scripture contained in the Old Testament, if prayed on a consistent basis.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars The most inspirational book you will ever read!.......2006-11-21

Before reading Medjugorje the Message, I had been told of Medjugorje before and even saw one of the visionaries at a local church. Medjugorje did not touch me until reading this book! I was looking for something inspirational before having to start my second round of chemotherapy and this book seemed to just pop up out of no where. My second round of chemo happen to be the 24th anniversay of the apparitions, 06/24/05. I don't think any of this was a coincidence. This book definitely changed my life for the better! I have passed it on to family and friends and they feel the same way! Praise God!

5 out of 5 stars I Love This Book!.......2006-11-10

I really wish that everyone in the entire world will read this book, because it is everything y'all need to know!

2 out of 5 stars I am glad the author has found his way back to the Lord, but the outright distortions and deceptions are troubling........2006-08-05

I would advise those who are interested in Medjugorje to read the books by Michael Jones and Donal Foley for a more complete and accurate picture of Medjugorje. Please note the Roman Catholic Church has in NO WAY authorized these alleged "apparitions" in Medjugorje as approved for personal belief. In fact, the Bishop of the diocese in which Medjugorje resides has written at least two opinions that the Blessed Mother is NOT appearing there.
If you can get your hands on The Medjugorje Deception by Michael Jones I believe you will get a more balanced view of Medjugorje. I truly would hate for someone to go to Medjugorje and lose their faith instead of increasing it.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic book for everyone.......2006-07-28

This book is a must read for everyone of all faiths. It was done in a format that allowed you to journey with the author through his deepening of his faith while also learning about Medjugorje. I also highly recommend his other books, Medjugorje: The Mission and also Final Harvest.

5 out of 5 stars Remarkable.......2006-05-07

I was given a copy of this book as a gift by a friend who has made seven pilgrimages to Medjugorje, and whose own life has been transformed by the experience.

I was initially rather skeptical, but after reading this extraordinary account, I have now bought copies for other people as well.

Almost exactly 25 years ago, six children reported that the Virgin Mary had appeared to them on a hillside in Bosnia-Herzegovina. She has allegedly been returning every day since then, making comments about the world, and advising us on actions that we need to take.

The story is inspirational, and was recently given more credence by a scientific report indicating that there really is something going on here which appears inexplicable according to the currently accepted scientific model.

The Vatican has not yet elevated Medjugorje to the level of a "miracle," but the fact is that the events in this village have transformed the lives of people all over the world.

I highly recommend this book to all spiritual seekers.

Book Description

The classic account of the appearances of the Blessed Mother at Medjugorje--now updated for the milleniumLike Lourdes and Fatima before it, Medjugorje has become a holy site for worshippers around the world, a place that will be remembered long after the twentieth century recedes into history. In this edition, Janice Connell presents a new intruduction that places Medjugorje in the context of the millennium and suggests that the Blessed Mother's final appearance on Earth may indeed be at this small mountain village. The author tells what has happened to the six apparitioners since the book was first published, and the Blessed Mother's monthly messages have been updated through 1997. There is also a new list of Marian Centers across the nation. The Visions of the Children features exclusive conversations with the six apparitioners who have been receiving, for more than fifteen years, visions and messages of the Virgin Mary, including extraordinary secrets about the final chapter in the history of the world. This book not only tells of the need for love and spiritual awakening, but casts a powerful perspective on the wholescale devastation in Bosnia during the last few years.

5 out of 5 stars A True Awakening.......2007-10-11

If this doesn't wake you up out of your lull in faith, nothing will. After reading you will realize how short a time we truly have on earth to make a difference to those in need. Very inspirational.

4 out of 5 stars the book of The Blessed Mother at Medjugorje.......2007-09-07

I am not finish with the book yet, but I am very interested in what the auther and the children have to say about the appearing of the Blessed Mother Mary.

5 out of 5 stars A must read !!.......2007-03-26

This is by far the best book I have read about the vision in Medjugorje. I took my time reading and re-reading it. The interviews with the visionaries, pilgrims and townspeople were simple but well done. The supporting scripture truly made a complete picture as to why these apparitions are so important and cannot be ignored. I recommend this book to anyone who would like to deepen their faith and renew their relationship with God. We are truly blessed to have these messages, we should receive them with an open heart.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent.......2007-01-11

It is a good story, with a divine message from heaven. Apostasy is taking its toll in this world and we all need to wake up and hear heavens call to come back to Christ Jesus fold, before it is to late. This book will help those that truely believe, pray and pray more for all that are in true need of pray.

5 out of 5 stars A beautiful collection of inspirational research and interviews .......2007-01-03

The interviews are facinating and simple. The messages are timeless and make so much perfect sense, it just blows your mind to be made aware of all this! Read this...you will not be unchanged, and you will enjoy every minute of the transformation.
This book can be read in awsome little daily bites, or as a sweeping consumption of hope and wonder!
I have learned so much thru the authors' well researched and sensitive approach to educating the reader as to the details of the appirations still continuing in Medjugorje. I picked up a few copies for Christmas gifts, they were received with anticipation and lots of appreciation...they don't have any idea how much yet!
