From 1864!! There's good reason this is still being read and treasured today!.......2007-05-10
'Mind is the Master-Power that molds and makes,
And Man is Mind, and evermore he takes
The tool of Thought, and shaping what he wills,
Brings forth a thousand joys, a thousand ills:-
He thinks in secret, and it comes to pass:
Environment is but his looking glass.'
-From the book
This book was my introduction to 'Change your thoughts, change yourlife'. A friend gave me this book several years ago and it dramatically changed the way I began to think. It just made sense, it clicked with me. I was also very surprised to find out that all those years I was thinking that my thoughts were private, no one but me could know them. Then, I read this and realized that our thoughts do show in many ways: appearance, health, our circumstances, etc.
I have read many books on this subject and this is one that will ALWAYS remain in my collection. I still pull it off the shelf and read it occassionally. It's overflowing with valuable wisdom on how your thoughts create your world.
This volume has 5 books in one. It's a small but somewhat chunky book with 384 pages.
"Oh Be Wise", This helps!.......2007-04-10
Great book. His writings are inspiring. You will also note some interesting biographical info in the beginning.
Get All Three Volumes.......2007-03-16
This is the volume to start with, but I would recommend all three volumes in "The Wisdom of James Allen" series. These books are valuable to read in marathon sessions, yet they can be practically consumed in short sittings. A meal of just a few pages will give you sufficient spiritual energy for the day. I recommend reading and re-reading because the wisdom is timeless and the principles can be applied daily. This is important reading for clergy, counselors and anyone who wants to start the quest of being a guide by first learning to guide themselves.
Great Wisdom.......2007-01-10
As a Man Thinketh is a must read and has been for most of the 20th and now the 21st century. To get this companion piece with other great writings by James Allen is amazing. I would suggest it for anyone who is interested in finding the tools necessary to command their own lives.
Book review.......2007-01-04
A very enjoyable read. The simplicity of his ideas is refreshing. I do believe it really can be this simple. This small pocket size book is easy to fit into a bag/purse, or pocket and take with you wherever you go. I find spending a few minutes here and there reading it works well. Pleasant and easy to follow. Seems like a very sincere person.

Download Description
Disease and health, like circumstances, are rooted in thought. Sickly thoughts will express themselves through a sickly body. Thoughts of fear have been known to kill a man as speedily as a bullet and they are continually killing thousands of people just as surely though less rapidly. The people who live in fear of disease are the people who get it. Anxiety quickly demoralizes the whole body, and lays it open to the entrance of disease; while impure thoughts, even if not physically indulged, will sooner shatter the nervous system.

Thinking man.......2007-10-07
I have read many of James Allen's sermons. Some have been printed into small books. "As A Man Thinketh" is one of his classics. It is a short book. It can be read in only a few hours. It is such a profound essay on human nature. Basically, if you think good thoughts, then you will become a good person, and if you think bad thoughts, then you will become a criminal. You have the control over what you will think. Your actions will follow whatever thoughts you have chosen to put in your head. The book goes into more detail and gives well reasoned arguments for this theory. As A Man Thinketh would be a good required reading assignment for a college philosophy class, but I would not recommend it for reading on the train going to work.
One powerful message.......2007-08-23
I felt that the book had a powerful message and it was quite inspiring. Having first read Covey's Seven Habits this book reinforced the paradigm shift to being my own life's creator.
I however, did not agree with Allens opinions about sickness and health. How can he claim that sickness would grow out of an impure mind? It's absurd.
Very very very good book .......2007-08-03
No one realizes how much affect that their thoughts can have upon their entire life. This book shows the direct connection between how you think and what happens in your life. Allen lays out the idea that when you are thinking about something repeatedly, it will lead to an action. This action leads to a new habit and the new habit to a new character. In the big picture, your thoughts make you who you are. That is why you need to change the way that you think about things. It can turn your life around!
You Don't Need to Read Any Other Self Help Book!.......2007-07-31
I have one of the most extensive libraries of self help, psychology and self-improvement material on this planet. And I continue to read more each day.
I just finished a copy of As A Man Thinketh given to me by a friend. I never read it before, even though it is the original self help book. After reading it I can only say that if you only read this book, you have all you need.
An annual "must read".......2007-07-16
I bought 5 of these little books because I wanted to share them with friends. This is a book I am going to read once a year for the rest of my life and I hope as my children get older they will see the value in it too. It helps to put your head in the right place - awesome book, I loved it.
Book Description
James Allen was one of our finest thinkers. In this five-in-one omnibus edition Allen show's you the power of positive thinking and a path to prosperity with dignity. These teachings are as timeless today as they were when they were written. Many of today's best sellers, such as The Power of Positive Thinking, Laws of Attraction, and The Science of Success, owe a deep and abiding debt to these great works. Now you can read the words of the master directly and not distilled through an other who is merely recycling them. This edition includes: As a Man Thinketh, The Way of Peace, Above Life's Turmoil, Byways to Blessedness, and The Path of Prosperity.
Customer Reviews:
Somewhat dissapointed.......2007-07-29
This book is a compilation of James Allen's work. I liked the message of A Man Thinketh, so I bought this book. Most of the other writings in this book are hard to understand because Allen is apparently an Englishman who wrote this stuff somewhere between the middle ages and the 20th century, and it seems to be fairly religious in nature complete with dogmatic overtones. I give it 2 stars because while the message is not inspiring, the book appears to be an accurate depiction of Allen's work.
Selected Teachings of James Allen.......2007-05-21
James Allen is one of the best writers of the 19th Century. I am thrilled to have more of his writings.
Book Description
James Allen, a 19th century English writer, is best known as the author of the best-selling, inspirational classic, As a Man Thinketh. For over a hundred years, this timeless work has motivated readers to lead more successful, effective, and peaceful lives. James Allen is also the author of over twenty other books, that are lesser known but equally powerful. The Wisdom of James Allen II is the second book in the Laurel Creek James Allen Wisdom series. It combines 3 of his classic works in one volume and includes: Light of Life's Difficulties, Above Life's Turmoil, and The Life Triumphant.
James Allen was an advocate of ethics in all the areas of our lives. His goal was to reveal universal spiritual principles to the masses in order to relieve people of their suffering, empower the individual, and thus uplift humanity. Allen's works focus on teaching personal responsibility, finding the cause of personal problems within our own selves, and revealing how each of us can harness our personal power to master our own destinies. The wisdom contained in his works provides a valuable guide for life.

Book Description
This little volume (the result of meditation and experience) is not intended as an exhaustive treatise on the much written-upon subject of the power of thought. It is suggestive rather than explanatory, its object being to stimulate men and women to the discovery and perception of the truth that-- "They themselves are makers of themselves." By virtue of the thoughts, which they choose and encourage; that mind is the master-weaver, both of the inner garment of character and the outer garment of circumstance, and that, as they may have hitherto woven in ignorance and pain they may now weave in enlightenment and happiness.

As a Man Thinketh by James Allen
Your thoughts and your dreams determine what you are and what you will be. This little book is meant to stimulate men and women to the discovery and perception of the truth that they themselves are makers of themselves, by virtue of the thoughts which they choose and encourage. The Science of Getting Rich by Wallace D. Wattles,
THIS book is pragmatical, not philosophical; a practical manual, not a treatise upon theories. It is intended for the men and women whose most pressing need is for money; who wish to get rich first, and philosophize afterward. It is for those who have, so far, found neither the time, the means, nor the opportunity to go deeply into the study of metaphysics, but who want results and who are willing to take the conclusions of science as a basis for action, without going into all the processes by which those conclusions were reached.
The Way to Wealth by Benjamin Franklin
The first American book on personal finance, The Way to Wealth by Benjamin Franklin is still the best and wisest money book ever written. Originally published in 1758 as the preface to Poor Richard' s Almanack, this little gem has been through innumerable printings and sold millions of copies to those in search of smart but entertaining advice about hard work, earning and saving money and debt. As the 21st Century charges along and the current economic climate continues to send out mixed messages, Franklin' s simple but wise commentary on the value of industry and frugality resonates as much for us today as it did for listeners nearly 350 years ago. This book is very short, but he gets to the point.
Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill
"Whatever your mind can conceive and believe it can achieve." Napoleon Hill
Be prepared, therefore, when you expose yourself to the influence of this philosophy, to experience a CHANGED LIFE which may help you not only to negotiate your way through life with harmony and understanding, but also to prepare you for the accumulation of material riches in abundance. Teaching, for the first time, the famous Carnegie formula for money-making, based upon the THIRTEEN PROVEN STEPS TO RICHES.
Organized through 25 years of research, in collaboration with more than 500 distinguished men of great wealth, who proved by their own achievements that this philosophy is practical.

getting rich is easy ;).......2007-06-27
read this one very fully with an open mind. getting rich is easy and needed by all. this is a must have!!!
Automatic Wealth 1 : The Secrets of The Millionaire Mind.......2007-05-07
This was an excellent collection of similar material. It helps to have them in one volume to cross reference
or to quote a particular author. The size of the book ( slightly larger than the typical paperback ) was
also a plus !!
I would highly recommend this collection.
THE BEST classic books on abundance and wealth.......2007-03-29
Where do I start with these books? Classic! Timeless! Must read! I sound like I'm writing copy for a blockbuster best seller. These books are the basis for many of the wealth and abundance work that we see today. Look at all the new material and then compare with these and you will see that the new ones have been updated in language and example, but the truths remain the same.
I believe in going to the source of popular material and especially The Science of Getting Rich and Think and Grow Rich are the wonderful. Both are short reads, but the concepts may have you going back over and over to clarify what seems to be amazing assertions. Take the messages seriously and you may seriously change your life and financial situation!
The Key.......2007-01-04
This audio CD is great for people looking to understand how to increase their value as a money maker in today's society. The principles are great I've already started to develop a new way of thinking, it's really teaching you how to be aware of how easy it is to get ahead in life. Plus it's convenient, I just pop it in the CD player an listen, but the trick is to listen to it consistently if you want change to come your way.

The best insight on the influence of thought on character.......2007-09-27
I have read lots of books of the power of the mind on character but this one is the best. I've also purchased the audio CD and downloaded it onto my computer. The nuggets of wisdom and insight are so powerful that I find myself reading and re-reading it; marking it up, putting key phrases on index cards and inside my Bible. It makes me think. It's not a book on how to do have a positive mindset, but I found myself creating all kinds of ideas of how to put his principles into practice. Since I am out on the road all day long, I listen to the CD over and over again! My favorite phrase is: "Self-control is strength: right-thought is mastery; Calmness is power." I highly recommend it! It will change your way of thinking.
This is a GREAT book.......2007-08-07
I love this book. It's really thought provoking. Allen does a wonderful job of proferring his insights on the power of thought. This book is not very long and can be read EASILY. It's concentrated insight.

I highly recommend this Audio book narrated by Charley Steiner. I have friends and collegues with this audio book narrated by other people who say Charley Steiner's narration is by far the best.
Product Description
Small hard cover by Barnes and Noble, 2002. 70 pages. Long before Norman Vincent Peale wrote his Power of Positive Thinking, James Allen wrote this spare but profound statement of the power of positive thought.
Customer Reviews:
Without equal.......2006-04-08
This book is without equal when it comes to giving guidance on how to shape your life. The basic idea is not new. It is contained in Proverbs 23:7, "As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he."
However the Bible verse is so short that many people miss the depth of wisdom contained in those few words. James Allen explores and guides you through the thought process. By reading this book, you will come to understand that "Man is the maker of his character, the molder of his life, and the builder of his destiny."
"Men are anxious to improve their circumstances, but are unwilling to improve themselves;" As soon as you understand and accept the concept that unless and until you change, nothing in your world will change, then you are on your way to positive change in your life.
The book is very short, but word for word is one of the most valuable books of our time. It should be read often, at least once a month, until the words are imprinted on your subconscious mind.
This particular hard back makes a great gift. One that will continue to give.

Book Description
The 7 Motivational Greats (4CD) set consists of 4 full-length motivational classics and 3 short bonus audiobooks packaged together in a discounted, convenient, complete, and synergistic motivational set. The series focuses on the human mind and its prevalent thoughts in relation to their manifestation into circumstances (the material world) and simple, practical philosophy steps and attitudes to maximize your worth and find your financial / business success (proven successful by thousands of people for over 100 years). In addition it also develops strength and perspective in our fast paced, unnatural "civilized" world.
Together they are food for thought and explain the first steps and changes needed to find a balanced and productive life. As a Man Thinketh /2 - increases your awareness and recognition of responsibility for focusing your thoughts and accepting the results of your (mind's) life design (or lack of) and your actions. Acres of Diamonds reminds you to focus on serving people's needs and urges you to provide practical, useful service to others. The Majesty of Calmness provides perspective, aids you in challenging moments, and helps you to keep peace and faith. The bonus audiobooks are The Sayings of Confucius, When a Man Comes to Himself (by Woodrow Wilson), and The Work of Russell H. Conwell.
They are not "cheerleading" titles, but profound (yet simple and comprehensible) studies of human psychology and fundamental / common sense principles in our free and capitalistic society. They will help you to 1) see and realize the links and causes for the success, failures, pain, and happiness in life as they originate from thought and action; 2) Point out the negative and positive beliefs, traits, and habits that make people happy and successful; 3) Provide specific key points to emulate and act on to improve your happiness and success (think of a caring father, priest, sister or friend encouraging you to find your best); 4) help bring you from the "shadows" into the light; and 5) give you peace and perspective to deal serenely and calmly with almost anything that happens.
Listening to them is like planting seeds of wisdom in your psyche that slowly transform you and your life as situations and understanding occur. They provide fruits of realization, change, happiness, and success. They can help you relieve pain, fear, and know that you are free - not trapped.
Customer Reviews:
Not worth the time.......2007-01-19
I bought these cds based on other reviews and I am very disappointed with them. I will begrudingly say that there is some subject matter falls in the "OK" catagorie but most of it is tired platatude of outdated ideas. Some of the talks are so reactionary as to be offensive. This work is hardly inspiring.
Very Good I liked them all.......2005-12-20
I enjoyed them especially Acres of Diamonds. The narrator, music and especially the information are good. Some are better for some times than others. As A Man Thinketh and Majesty of Calmness are kind of soft and reflective and Acres of Diamonds and As You Think So You Are are kind of loud, energetic, and humorous.
VERY GOOD, DIFFERENT, IMAGINATIVE - but can take some getting used to.......2005-12-19
Ha, Ha, Ha some of these are very funny. I almost split my sides. I really enjoyed them. It's the first audiobook that I got a lot out of and really enjoyed it at the same time.
I have never written a review before, but these audiobooks are so outstanding that I really want to let people know about them and share them.
I think most people buy audiobooks for information.
To date all the audiobooks that I have bought have been straightforward so much so that
they sometimes become monotonous and boring. Even if the material is good when it keeps droning on its like my little niece playing her 1 piano note song with my retreat from the area ( turning the CD off ) or the accompanying headache following shortly thereafter.
Some of these audiobooks are very different: they are not only informative, but entertaining as well. Every audio book is narrated differently.
The As a Man Thinketh and Majesty of Calmness are pretty calm and straightforward with nice music breaks and little intensity peaks to clarify the important points.
All in all these two are mostly conventional and I do not think anyone can fault either of these for the material, narration style, music, etc. They are both quite good in themselves. I especially liked the Majesty of Calmness and use it regularly now.
The Acres of Diamonds and As a Man Thinketh 2 are much more entertaining and not always straightforward.
The Acres of Diamonds has little stories in it. The stories are of an Arab diamond seeker and an Arab guide, a professor of mineralogy who thinks he's smart, 49 ers (gold rush seekers), and others. When they come to the stories the narrator makes a character, and sometimes does it for the audience members that Dr. Conwell speaks about. I found it to be very cute and enjoyed them. This book was originally a lecture (not a book) so it makes perfect sense to make the audiobook the way they did. When most people tell stories they usually speak a little differently or emulate the people they are talking about. Dr. Conwell was a Baptist preacher and they use Gospel music in it. I found myself getting up and swinging to the music every so often. With this audiobook I got the information, entertainment, and a little exercise.
The As a Man Thinketh 2 annoyed me for a bit. If I had stopped it there I might have given it a bad review. It seemed silly, and loud, but I stuck it out because the information was good. By the end of it the audiobook I not only I liked it, but now realize that this company has taken audiobooks to another level.
When I now listen to other audiobooks they seem very flat, plain, and boring just words being "mouthed" by a "professional," monotonous, usually calm and stuffy narrator.
If anyone does not like these audiobooks I think it may be because some people simply dislike the obnoxious professor (or perhaps they are PhD's themselves of the type in audiobook and it hits too close to home) and judge the audiobooks poorly for that before they really give them all a chance. Not realizing the obnoxious professor is making a point at a deeper level than mere words. I believe the obnoxious character is actually illustrating some of the points in the material in a clever way.
That audiobook is not only informational, it's funny, and entertaining, but it is at first challenging and very different. It has a variety of characters including a stuffy, egomaniac professor, a "woman" who sounds "sexy" an example of "vice" not virtue,
a happy go lucky East Indian Professor "Dr. Swami Vivipunda", an Aussie (sounds like the Crocodile Hunter - I loved his enthusiasm - it made me feel like a happy kid again - so innocent), Tex and others.
These audiobooks use style, tone, and context, and types of characters that you sometimes come across in real life to make the material even stronger and more potent - they don't "mouth" them. If they were simply mouthed you could not laugh so hard or be so aggravated at times. The As a Man Thinketh challenges you. If you take the emotional response and listen to the material you will have a powerful "lesson." that is easy to remember. It did for me, I have become much more humble and recognized some less than ideal traits in myself thanks to the arrogant professor, and I now eat less and am more in control of myself thanks to "Melinda Melendez" the vice like character. I got the point.
I mostly agree with the other reviewers who liked them.
If you are uptight, take offense easily, don't have much humor, are very "logical" or a professor, or do not like ethnic people you may not enjoy two of these audiobooks but,
I suggest you buy this set and try them all anyway. Even if you hate the style that they use on the Acres of Diamonds and As a Man Thinketh 2 you will still have two very good audiobooks As a Man Thinketh and The Majesty of Calmness that are pretty normal and well worth the price of the set by themselves. If you find that you have acquired a taste for the other two wilder audiobooks then you will have a complete set for different needs, moods and times. You may find that the "weird" stuff grows on you. I would recommend these to my mother, my niece, and my friends. I believe in them, and they did make a difference in my life as my waist, and now humbler dealings with people prove to me.
5 stars all the way but not conservative and traditionally narrated.......2005-12-16
I really have to wonder about someone who could give this set a 1 star and what their intentions are. Did they actually listen to all 4 disks or did they make a snap judgment on one of them on style ignoring the content? Even if you hated all the narration, it's certainly intelligible and the content is superb. You can verify that yourself by looking at the reviews of the books individually. There is nothing wrong with the music (unless you dislike Classical, New Age, or Gospel because that's what they use) - it is different styles all appropriate to the subject. I had no problem with the tracks; they have a listing on the container that says exactly which track is which. You simply have to look and press the CD button to find it. The tempo varies from slow and relaxing (with slow and relaxing subjects) to very fast and exciting (with motivating subjects) what's wrong with that? They do move it along on some of the tracks and some of the tracks are also pretty modern and might be too much for very old or very conservative people.
On the other hand it had Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata also. I think it is pretty well balanced. This set has relaxation and motivation depending upon the disk you listen to. . I believe it is a 5 star even if only for content although the rest of it is actually pretty good also. If you are very conservative or old you might not like the As a Man Thinketh 2 (but it is really not that bad - but obviously set for younger people just don't listen to that disk use the others) other than that have no fear. It's a very good series. I would purchase it again without hesitation.
Don't Waste Your Money!!!!.......2005-12-13
I have worked in the entertainment business for over 20 years and this is the worst piece of work put out by a rank amateur I'v ever seen...You are better off finding ANYONE who can read aloud read you these works that are probably in the public domain...They aren't even good enough to put you to sleep because the "Narrator" is reading them with the inflection of a person who has no idea what the words flopping out of his mouth mean...The tempo is choppy, the music cheesy, and this is a total waste of compact discs...The tracks are only numbered so you cannot tell which piece of clap-trap this guy is droning on about and at least one track fades to music for no reason and comes up on another dialogue about god-knows-what....Oh, and the "narrator" has chosen a truly awful "Shakesperean" dialect for some of the tracks which is completely unfathomable...Sorry for the severity of my review, but I spent good money for Motivation and ended up with Indigestion!
