Customer Reviews:
A Passover Haggadah.......2007-05-11
The art work in this Haggadah is enough to justify its purchase. The Hebrew is translated thoroughly and I assume faithfully (but how would I know). I have always found it very satisfactory for my seders that include adults and children of diverse faiths and non-faiths. If I were to improve it, I would place some of the songs that are at the back of the book at the portion of the service where it is appropriate to sing them (Dayenu, for instance).
A Passover Seder.......2007-04-11
We were so pleased to be able to purchase A Passover Haggadah by Herbert Bronstein on amazon.com. The original haggadahs we owned were bought over 25 years ago and had, quite literally, fallen apart. Our family has used these haggadahs at every Passover seder since that time and we would have been distraught if we could not continue the tradition.
Luckily, my wife found these on your website and our family was delighted we could continue our seders with our beloved haggadahs.
For an enjoyable Telling.......2001-03-12
Gender neutral language. Based in Right-to-Left format. Lots of English leader-and-group responsive readings. Contains Hebrew sections with English translations, and also transliterations for the primary blessings. The Four Questions are not transliterated, but are in English and Hebrew. The Four Children are children, not SONS. Dayenu is in Hebrew and English, no transliteration. There is a full Grace After Meals in Hebrew and Hallel is in Hebrew and English. Contains 25 pages of music.
Our family's haggadah.......2000-05-05
Our extended family has tried out other haggadot, but we always come back to this one. The gender-sensitive language is done very well -- it doesn't stick out at all. The book is a work of art!
Recipe for a wonderful Seder.......2000-03-24
This book is great. The language is poetic and powerful. It is even gender-inclusive and socially conscious without seeming new-agey. The illustrations are beautiful and dreamy. This haggadah is very versatile and provides a lot of choices for planning your Seder.

Customer Reviews:
Great Haggadah!.......2007-05-14
We were very happy with this Haggadah. Everything is there (hebrew, songs, stories, the afikomen, the wine, etc.) yet it is not excessively long. We had observant Jews, non-practicing Jews and a few non-Jews at our Sedar and they all throughly enjoyed the service. The ages ranged from 9 years old to 53 years old and included 3 teenagers. Truly several generations represented.
A Haggadah Mostly for the Younger Generations.......2007-05-07
The "Family Haggadah" appears to be illustrated and annotated for parents who want to keep their 7 - 12 year olds engaged during the seder. For that purpose, the Family Haggadah seems to be an excellent choice. Beautifully illustrated with lots of fun "side" facts. If you have teenagers or are a group of all adults, the Family Haggadah will likely come off as too childish. The content is good for various degrees of religious seders. If you are looking for a more cultural/humanistic/secular approach to celebrating Passover, this Haggadah will leave you wanting more. I take my hat (but not my kippa) off to the author for creating a kid friendly haggadah that parents could tolerate.
Perfect haggadah for an energetic and fun seder.......2006-04-11
I was looking for an easy-to-read Haggadah that was intelligent but at the same time fun for kids. This is the perfect one after a 10 year search. It is also the perfect amount of information...enough to make the seder interesting, but not too much that you get the feeling it will never end! Thank you Mr. Gindi for this Haggadah!!!
Very Interesting. A Great Learning Experience.......2003-10-20
This is a wonderful Haggadah that we have been using in my family ever since my dad wrote it. It is easy to understand and it makes the meal so much less boring. I am 11 which is the youngest in my family and we still use it in our seders. I hope that everyone who is young or old loves this book. I sure did!
Great for families with preschool and school-age children.......2003-05-04
This was our third year using this Haggadah with our children, now 7 and 9 years old, and we will probably use it for at least a few more years. The "Family Haggadah" includes a complete service (i.e., no steps are skipped) with brief, clear English narration and key blessings and verses in Hebrew or Aramaic. The service is traditional with some contemporary additions - the Matzah of Hope; a poem written by a boy imprisoned in a concentration camp; Miriam's Cup; and one of our favorites, the Frog Song. The authors estimate that the service will take 45 minutes before dinner and 15 minutes after; we found it took closer to 55 minutes before dinner. The book is beautifully illustrated and includes discussion topics in boxes alongside the main text ranging from "what is your favorite part of the service" to a more sophisticated consideration of what it means to be enslaved versus free. Because the text is streamlined and simplified, rather than dumbed-down, this is also an ideal Haggadah for first-time seder hosts and seder novices of any age. To keep the service brief, very few traditional Hebrew songs are included. If you like to sing, you will need to supplement the "Family Haggadah" with a more traditional book, such as the Maxwell House version available in supermarkets.

Easy to Use Haggadah.......2007-05-13
An easy to use Haggadah which should please just about everybody: people who like Hebrew, those who don't and those who need explanation.
Family Haggadah.......2007-05-12
I was happy to receive this beautiful addition to our future seders. It is everything I thought it would be.
New haggadah.......2007-05-09
We used this for the first time and it's a refreshing improvement from the old haggadah we had been using. Easy to read, updated language with lots of optional commentary.
recommended.......2007-02-09
I just bought this and am looking forward to using it this year. It appears well put together and easy to use. I feel this is a great starter book for adults that may not be as advanced in Passover customs or those with children... I like the way this book takes you by the hand and helps you through the seder. :)
Great seder.......2002-04-09
I have used this haggadah for several years, and have found it to be a beautiful and practical addition to our seder. The print is easy to read, and the overall appearance is impressive. The one criticism that I have, is that there could have been more Hallel verses in English for those sedergoers who need a translation. Other than that, I recommend it enthusiastically.

Book Description
The Haggadah of choice for children and adults to use together. Just the right blend of text and commentary with transliteration of prayers and songs.
Customer Reviews:
Gets a hecsher from me!.......2007-05-07
This is the 3rd year we've used this haggadah--we decided to invest in enough for the whole table. It's great because it's got clearly written Hebrew, English and transliteration. It's simple, with good questions and comments in the sidebars to spark some additional conversation. Your seder can be simple and straightforward, or more thought-provoking using this haggadah. I also like the CD of Passover songs that is available to go with this. We had fun singing along while preparing our Pesach meal! If the illustrations were better, I'd give it 5 stars.
Family Seder for all ages.......2007-04-10
This Haggadah has been used in our family for over 10 years and is appropriate for the traditional members, the less indoctrinated, and the children. There are activities to include the youngest members and questions to involve the sophisticated participants. The participation in a Seder is for everyone, and this Haggadah is inclusive of all!
A Seder Guide for Everyone.......2002-08-14
We used A Family Haggadah at the last Passover Seder. The children found it easy to follow and understand. The adults liked the special commentaries and additional information. Everyone said it helped make the Seder special.
For the Best Seder Ever!!.......2001-04-11
This Haggadah was so perfect for everyone in our very diverse congregation. It contains all the traditional elements, but allows those who don't understand the Hebrew, not only to follow along, but to understand and to participate. We had so much fun, and almost everyone said it was the best Seder they had ever attended.

Book Description
Useful for both parents and children, this guide to the seder service provides all the Hebrew parts that families desire combined with English text for those needing help in translation. Two versions of the Passover story-one for adults and a brief one for children-are provided. In addition to all of the seder's 14 steps, this Haggadah provides explanations of the Passover traditions, as well as fun multiple-choice questions so families can understand the service better and gain a greater appreciation for its purpose and meaning. Many of the features are designed to encourage discussion among family members, both young and old, which is an important part of the Passover experience.
Customer Reviews:
Disappointing .......2007-03-20
I've been searching for a way to make the seder more engaging and fun for kids -- and I mean little kids, like from toddlerhood until adolescence. For them (and for many adults) the hour or two until dinner is just plain boring -- a whole lot of talking with a smattering of songs, but not really fun songs (think Wiggles). This book had a promising title, good reviews and a colorful cover, but it just doesn't live up to its name. Like so many other "fun" or "family friendly" haggadot, its answer to the boredom is more talking: discussion topics, interesting facts and history, quizzes, etc. Those are all well and good for adults and older kids, but for the wee ones it just makes it drag on longer. It's not particularly well illustrated either -- not in a way that would engage small children while the adults drone on for what seems like an eternity. Young children need physical stimulation (songs with choreographed hand movements they can learn, for instance) and broader and more energetic interactions. In defense of this book, I haven't found an actually really fun haggadah yet and I've been searching for a couple years. Maybe it doesn't exist and I need to make up my own.
The Really Fun Family Haggadah.......2000-04-03
We read the Haggadah over and we think this will be the best year for your seder yet. My childern are 8 and 5. The older one reads hebrew the younger is able to sing the songs. We are looking forward to sharing this new family tradition with extened family and friends.

Book Description
Every year, poet and novelist Marge Piercy creates her own Passover seder with a group of family and friends. Babies have been born and grown up, friends have moved or divorced, but the principals continue to gather in her rustic Cape Cod home to participate in a seder that Piercy takes joy in tweaking each spring to make it more meaningful. In this journey through the ritual, Piercy coaxes us toward “a significant contemporary interpretation, rather than an emphasis on what is strictly ‘correct’ or traditional.” She reminisces about her grandmother, who thought herself unworthy to lead a seder because of her limited Hebrew but presided “morally” at the table; she urges adding an orange to the seder plate; she even describes her heroic efforts to make her own gefilte fish (an experiment not to be repeated).
Piercy offers her distinct slant on each element of the feast and provides dozens of her own wonderful recipes, which she delivers in the same warm, commanding voice as is heard in her poems and prose: “When I told Ira that I was going to explain how to cook matzoh brei, he thought I was crazy. Everybody knows how to make matzoh brei, he said. But I am of the opinion that there is no longer anything that everybody knows how to cook.”
It is in that spirit–no question too simple–that Piercy welcomes readers to her kind of seder: a homemade and personal affair, the kind we all wish we could attend. This charming and instructive book of Passover wisdom, brimming with favorite dishes and Marge Piercy’s own moving Passover poems and blessings, invites us to look at an important Jewish ritual in a whole new way.
Customer Reviews:
Offbeat pesach musings.......2007-05-06
As a fan of Marge Piercy's writings, I was curious about this new endeavor. I was pleasantly surprised at how much fun it was and the memories it evoked for me. Our Passover seders always include new poetry (many of them from her previous poetry books)and readings, and my attitude about Pesach mirrors hers, "whatever works, do it". I was so impressed that I sent a copy to my niece. Her recipes were an added feature and the macaroons came out great.
very personal, very interesting, and useful.......2007-04-09
Jewish tradition and feminism collide in this book. I found the tension fascinating. There are a lot of personal stories, a lot of recipes done the way I cook ("add a little of this, or, if you don't like it, add a little of that.") There were a few new poems, but the ones I liked best are already in The Art of Blessing the Day. I didn't always agree with her, but she always provided food for thought. At my seder, I found myself citing this book several times. Plus I cooked a tsimmes from one of her recipes, and it was quite good.
This is far from being a haggadah; just commentary on the various sections of the seder and a lot of interesting stories and recipes.
Make Passover even more meaningful this year.......2007-04-02
I really appreciate this book. It is respectful of tradition but it also helps to infuse the holiday with personal relevance, which is what it's all about anyway. I love the poems, the prayers, the recipes and wonderful stories that add such richness. Pick and choose what's meaningful to you and "pass over" the rest!
I THOUGHT IT WAS A PARODY.......2007-04-02
In the Thirties in the USSR Ms. Piercy would have been a Stalinist hack. This is the most slavish and trite abasement of Jewish tradition to PC platitudes that I have ever seen. For a so-called 'poet' there isn't the slightst trace of history, collective memory and awe that has always infused the Passover, even for the barely observant Jew. It is deeply offensive and truly revolting. It is like reading bumper stickers. If this is the 'only seder some marginal Jews can tolerate' I wish they'd stay away from the table.
Thought-provoking!.......2007-03-26
A must-read before Pesach for the traditionalist or modern Jew alike. A very easy book to read packed with information and advice. The recipes look great too!

Customer Reviews:
Across the Spectrum Haggadah .......2007-04-06
I found this Haggadah to be good, not great. It had all of the requisite
detail for the Seder, and a fairly well-organized and easy to read style.
Still, I found some of the translations from Hebrew into English to be
clumsy, awkward and in some cases difficult to understand at all.
We are not Orthodox, so the constant references to "Hashem" was not something we are used to. But I bought this Haggadah knowing it could span from Orthodox across to Reform, so perhaps I should have considered that.
All in all, it was more than adequate. My main critique was the clumsy English translations.
Easy, Simple and Clear.......2006-01-11
This handy Haggadah is a must have. It has clear instructions, a clear type, and an excellent translation (as one would expect from Artscroll). This past passover it was a treasure to use. I had an in-depth haggadah to look up insights, and then this one to use for the seder - it was great, I did not miss a beat with its user-friendliness. Also its large print made it a gem after the fourth cup !! The seder can be a chaotic jumbled mess, but this handy book in a convenient size (not too small and not too big), made every moment a memorable experience. Sometimes its just the telling of the story - without all the extras that does it best. Thank you artscroll.
ive been looking for a replacement.......2005-10-27
this is just what i was looking for to replace the very old family books that were so out of date. Thank you so much for the books
I bought 15 of them
Not five stars after all........2005-07-05
I had to change my review after we actually used this Haggadah at the seder. My opinion is not influenced by the fact that my hyper-active 6 year old quietly disappeared during the seder and came back to the table with blood dripping from his eye-brow (he fell on a stick he had taken inside and was playing with). My husband took him to the emergency room and another man finished the seder. But afterwards, we all agreed that in general the Haggadah didn't work for us. Another friend also bought this one and said she didn't like it. I bought a different one the next year that was specifically created for little kids.
One of the Haggadot that should be on the table .......2005-04-03
One way of doing the Seder is having many different Haggadot on the table, many different commentaries available each of which can add something to the telling of the story of the going out from Egypt. This Haggadah has a very clearly written treasure of traditional commentary. It's wise use can thus make a valubable contribution to the Seder.

Haggadah.......2007-05-23
While the content was okay, the online description neglected to indicate that the pictures were all black and white which is not conducive to a beginer's book geared for children.
seder with young children.......2007-05-12
excdellent for use at a seder where there are young children--up to ages 6 or 7.
very nice for young children, and their parents.......2007-04-13
This is a very nice book (it reads like a standard English book, not "backwards" as a traditional Haggadah does), that is very child-appropriate. And while it is far from all-inclusive, it is a very nice supplement for a little kid who is just beginning to participate and be interested in the Passover Seder. The pictures and word-layout are excellent for a beginning reader. Also works as a coloring book, since the pictures are not colored in.
My Very Own Haggadah.......2005-04-27
Terrific for young children. Great illustrations and opportunity for child to color many drawings.
No more bored kids!.......2001-02-16
I used this service with my own kids and now my grandson has his own copy. A classic that has stood the test of time. A perfect length and style for a child's first seder. A must!

Finally, you can put aside those yellowed newspaper clippings this holiday! The New York Times Passover Cookbook collects almost 50 years' worth of delicious Seder recipes from the Times and its contributors, from Florence Fabricant's Classic Gefilte Fish to Barry Wine's Tsimmes Terrine. With more than 200 recipes, the book travels around the world of Jewish cuisine, from Artichokes, Sephardic Style--a spicy, fried, Egyptian dish--to Mississippi Praline Macaroons, a recipe that traveled with its originator from Vienna, Austria, to Natchez, Mississippi. Because the book includes recipes from both Ashkenazic and Sephardic traditions, editor Linda Amster notes that the ingredients in some recipes may not be acceptable to other communities (for example, the allspice in Claudia Roden's Matzoh-Meat Pie perfectly reflects its Arab-Jewish influences, but probably would be out of place on an Ashkenazic Passover menu).
Through the years at the Times, many Passover recipes have come from accomplished home cooks in the New York area (such as Florence Aaron's Salmon and Egg Salad). More recently, however, the paper has given some star chefs a turn at the traditional Seder dishes, so you'll also find such gourmet delights as Jean-Georges Vongerichten's Beet Tartare, Paul Prudhomme's Veal Roast with Mango Sauce, Charlie Trotter's Carrot Consommé, and Maida Heatter's Chocolate Walnut Torte. In addition to the wealth of recipes, The New York Times Passover Cookbook features a thoughtful introduction on the meanings of the Passover ritual by Joan Nathan, author of the award-winning Jewish Cooking in America. Threaded through the book are four essays by Times critics and columnists Ruth Reichl, Mimi Sheraton, Molly O'Neill, and Howard G. Goldberg. Goldberg's informative piece on Kosher wines may cause you to put the sweet Manischewitz aside for a dryer Israeli Cabernet or a Californian Semillon. Whether you're looking for a classic apple-nut Haroseth or a fusion-cuisine Southwestern Tsimmes Stuffed in Anaheim Chiles, The New York Times Passover Cookbook is an excellent, comprehensive sourcebook for the Passover meal. --Rebecca A. Staffel
Book Description
More Than 200 Holiday Recipes from Top Chefs and Writers
At last, from the paper of culinary record, comes a treasure trove of more than 200 recipes that celebrate the delicious festivity of the Passover table. Compiled from Times articles spanning almost fifty years, The New York Times Passover Cookbook represents Jewish cuisine from all over the world.
It contains family recipes that have been passed down for generations as well as innovative kosher cuisine from such celebrated chefs as Wolfgang Puck and Alice Waters. Acclaimed Times writers Molly O'Neill, Ruth Reichl, and Mimi Sheraton have all contributed essays on the different ways that the Passover experience has enriched their lives.
Recipes from Craig Claiborne, Mimi Sheraton, Molly O'Neill, Marian Burros, and Florence Fabricant are also included, allowing the reader to see -- and taste! -- how the experts at The New York Times cook for Passover.
With dozens of fantastic main-course dishes for both meat and dairy meals, you'll have a tough time deciding between the Shad with Pineapple-Rhubarb Salsa and the Braised Moroccan-Style Lamb with Almonds, Prunes and Dried Apricots. Maybe this year your guests will savor a traditional dish like Chicken with Fresh Herbs and 40 Cloves of Garlic -- or perhaps something different, like Southwestern Blackened and Braised Brisket of Beef or Paul Prudhomme's Veal Roast with Mango Sauce. The chapter on Vegetables and Salads contains an ample selection of memorable side dishes: Carrot and Apple Tsimmes, Butternut Squash Ratatouille, the Union Square Cafis Matzoh Meal Polenta, and Beet Crisps are just a few of the flavorful recipes you'll want to enjoy all year round.
Customer Reviews:
Great for traditional Ashkenazie recipes.......2007-05-16
This cookebook has many variations of the Ashkenazic Jewish classics - chicken soup, tzimmes, brisket, gefilte fish and charoset. Many of them are excellent, but the cookbook is thin on recipes for other varieties of food. All in all, this is a good niche category cookbook.
In response to the comment below titled "totally not for orthodox cooks".......2006-01-30
I am ultra-Orthodox (Chareidi) and I DO use matzo meal on Pesach. You are right that some will not, but the rest will. And as for vegetables that cannot be pealed, of course we use them! Even if we want to be extra makbid (strict), we can always use the Bodek kind (already checked for bugs).
Anyway, I really didn't buy or ever use this book (yet), so I do not know if it really deserves 5 stars.
An absolute necessity if you ever prepare a seder meal!.......2003-11-12
This cookbook is so wonderful, so essential, I can't recommend it heartily enough. Perhaps my greatest endorsement is this: I really use these recipes THROUGHOUT THE YEAR, not just at Passover!
I'm the type of cook who rarely makes the same dish more than once. Here, there are several recipes I make again and again. The cover recipe, Pot Roast with Red Wine and Onions, is reason enough to order this book. The matzoh balls I make every year from these pages and they are always easy, fluffy, and to die for.
Another fantastic feature is the abundance of recipes for those "other" days of Passover--the in-between days when you're not going all out for a Seder meal but you still want something delicious.
The contributors to this book are remarkable in their expertise and their diversity. Every Jewish cook should have this book!
great book.......2003-04-18
This cookbook is fantastic. Try the carrot souffle on page 110. It is delicious and has a unique texture. It is somewhat like carrot cake. However, the recipe doesn't tell you to turn it out of the pan, which you should do. Some of the recipes are difficult to make if you live in a community, as I do, that doesn't have a kosher butcher. Also, I wish that there were more simple recipes. I am struggling to satisfy my children during Passover, and this cookbook doesn't help much with that. Still, it is a great resource to have on hand.
Favorite Passover Cookbook.......2003-03-10
I am a definite "foodie", and an Orthodox Jew. I'm always looking for new recipes to try out. I frequently take out cookbooks from local libraries to try them out, and purchase the most useful ones. There is a definite dearth of good Kosher for Passover cookbooks, so I was thrilled to find this one last year.
I am buying this one today. This is not a cookbook for beginners, but all the recipes I tried were worth the effort, and were delicious. I can't wait to try some more recipes this year. It's so nice to find some recipes for Passover that are not the usual chicken/potatoes combo. There are also many recipes to use year round.
I would also like to answer the person who said the this cookbook is not for any Orthodox Jews. He/she forgot that there are many type of Orthodox Jews. If you do not eat gebrokts (a mixture of matza meal & liquid) during all but the last day of Pesach, then there are some recipes that you will not be able to use. If your tradition (minhag) is to peel all fruits and vegetables, go ahead. You think the NY Times writers are chasidish??? Please! You can get many kosher for Passover for cookbooks with recipes from your community.
Please remember that your type of Yiddishkeit is not the only one. There are many Orthodox Jews who will not have problems with any recipes in this cookbook. And again, there are still many good recipes in this cookbook, even if you don't eat gebrokts.

Book Description
Isreal's feasts are infinitely more important than just a series of cultural observances. These feasts are appointed by the Lord, and they are owned by the Lord. He calls them "
my feasts." Together they form God's prophetic calendar, outlining the work of history's most important person...Jesus, the Messiah. As such, few themes are more timely or rewarding for God's people today.
The Feasts of the Lord covers all aspects of the biblical feasts...historical background, biblical observance, and prophetic significance. Yet, this book is not just another reference book on the feasts. It is written from the Hebrew Christian viewpoint, helping you to see the feasts through Jewish eyes.
The words of the Savior, His messianic claims, and Bible prophecy will all take on a rich, new relevance for you against the exciting backdrop of
The Feasts of the Lord.

A Treasure Chest of Information.......2007-02-16
The pages are falling out of my copy of "The Feasts of the Lord" simply because of how many times I have referred to it while preparing lessons or sermons. I am almost brought to tears every time I read of the literal meaning of the "afikomen" at Passover. I gave a copy of this book to a Jewish friend who helped me in proofing the manuscript of "Maccabee." Though "The Feasts of the Lord" demonstrates unapologetically the New Testament fulfillment of the Old Testament feasts, the book was well received. A big thank you to the authors.
Incredible book.......2007-02-07
This is one of the most beautiful, high-quality books I own. The illustrations are amazing with rich colors and magnificent details. The writing is understandable and gives wonderful insight into Jewish history. This is an incredibly valuable tool for any serious Bible student and a treasure for any serious book collector.
Eye-Opening.......2007-01-13
This is one of my most treasured books. So wonderfully written, I felt like I was literally attending these feasts. Very eye-opening to end time events.
The Feasts of the Lord God's Prophetic Calendar From Calvary to the Kingdom.......2007-01-09
Beautifully put together book! Wonderful illustrations. A wealth of information and insight.
Review of the Lord's feasts.......2006-11-12
This is an excellent source and must reading for understanding God"s purposes im mankind's affairs. Further, it increases the understanding for the Christian in his roots and history. It connects all the dots to bridge, with understanding, the Jewish faith and the Christian faith to give clarity to the Christian belief system.
