Book Description
#1 bestselling author andwell-known speaker Joyce Meyer explains the ways in which God speaks- and teaches readers how to listen. In the hustle and bustle of today's busy world, sometimes it's hard enough to hear yourself think, much less to take a minute to stop and listen for the voice of God. But learning to recognize God's voice and the many ways in which he speaks is vital toward following his plan. In her book, Joyce Meyer reveals the ways in which God delivers his word-through signs, revelations, and internal confirmation-and the benefits of asking God for the sensitivity to hear his voice. By developing a tender conscience and attentive ears, readers will find peace and fulfillment as God governs each day, each step of the way.

Must Have Book!.......2007-08-01
I really love this book (and love the audiobook even more - because Joyce Meyer really gets the point across with her great personality)
I'm not even a Christian and I love this book. It will help you tap into your inuition and learn right from wrong.
Thank You Joyce for such a wonderful book!!!
Love the book, don't love Joyce reading it.......2007-04-24
Wow was I disappointed... I love to hear Joyce preach! I love to read her books! She is so anointed! And she always speaks to me. However, maybe it's just me, but this audiotape wasn't the same. When she read the book she wrote, I found it to be dry and without life. How to Hear from God is another of her great books! Please don't discount the book if you didn't like the audiotape of it being read. I won't get another tape of her reading her books. I'll just continuing listening to her teaching tapes, reading her books, and watching her programs on tv and online.
How to hear from God.......2007-04-19
This book and the study guide that goes with it are helping me understand the word of God. Daily study with these, and other materials from the Joyce Meyer library, is enriching my life. I highly recommend it to anyone, especially those who are studying the bible alone, as I am.
AWESOME.......2007-03-26
I love this book! Joyce Meyer is one of my favorite authors/speakers/teachers. This book will put you on the right track in learning to do what's necessary in your life so you can prepare for a true and meaningful relationship with God. If you want to know Him better and be led by the Spirit, then buy this book!
Inspirational and Enlightening!!.......2007-02-01
I have read many of Joyce Meyer's books and I really enjoyed this book the most and in my opinion a very enlightening book as it really has helped me with my relationship with God and how he truly corresponds with us.
This is a must if you want to Hear from God!!!
Book Description
A Formatio book. "God spoke to me.""The Spirit spoke to my heart.""God revealed the idea to me."Being close to God means communicating with him--telling him what is on our hearts in prayer
and hearing and understanding what he is saying to us. It is this second half of our conversation with God that is so important but that can also be so difficult. How do we hear his voice? How can we be sure that what we think we hear is not our own subconscious? What role does the Bible play? What if what God says to us is not clear? The key, says best-selling author Dallas Willard, is to focus not so much on individual actions and decisions as on building our personal relationship with our Creator. In this updated classic, originally published as
In Search of Guidance, the author provides rich spiritual insight into how we can hear God's voice clearly and develop an intimate partnership with him in the work of his kingdom.

Life Enhancing.......2007-08-23
I'm still reading this but it has already challenged me to surrender all for a closer walk with God. Day by day I'm doing that. And a new and greater intimacy between us is developing.
This is the 3rd book by Dallas Willard I've read in the past year. Each has had demonstrable impact on my thinking and being. But "Hearing God" has been the most accessible and the one I find easiest to put into practice daily.
Defending a Conversational Relationship with God.......2007-07-28
If I've bought a book entitled "Hearing God", I'm probably open to the idea hearing God is possible. The author spends over half of the book citing evidence that God can communicate with His children. The subtitle should be "defending a conversational relationship with God" instead of "developing a conversational relationship with God.
Practical, wise, and generous in spirit.......2007-05-17
This book, like Willard's others, offers a marvelous fusion of depth and practicality--simply put, wisdom. As always, Willard combines grace and a laserlike insight into the difficulties that beset us. He is neither pedantic nor simplistic, and Hearing God illuminates this too-often-confounding subject in a way that makes transformed practice irresistable.
You Don't Need Ears to Hear God.......2007-02-21
Renowned author Dallas Willard explains in nine chapters and an epilogue how it is possible for us to hear God, or, more specfically, how to develop a "conversational relationship with God." An essential element in developing that relationship is to "live in the will of God." In other words, we WON'T hear God if we approach his guidance just to make sure we are right or to make sure we will gain personal favor.
Willard also explains in his book that one of the primary reasons he wrote it was to help us distinguish between those who truly hear God's word versus those who may claim they are being guided by God, but who may be led by their own ambition. Even our so-called religious leaders are subject to such misdirection, and particularly valuable aspects of this book show readers how we might recognize the voice of God actually "talking" to us in contrast to our simply wishing we were conversing with God or imagining the same.
The key criteria for figuring out what God might be telling us are the "three lights." Willard explains that in determining what God's will for us might be, we need to compare what we think we hear from God to see if that message fits the circumstances of our lives, fits the promptings of the inner spirit, and is consistent with holy scripture. Willard provides readers a clear exposition of these lights and then goes on to describe, equally as clearly, the qualities of God's voice. One of those qualities is that God will not converse with us in ambiguous or vague language. Instead, he will tell us clearly what he intends. We won't need to guess at his intent or his message.
One of the most common ways God communicates with us is through an inner voice. It is a "voice" that we don't necessarily need ears with which to hear it, yet we need to remain still, to pay attention, to be patient, to be humble, and above all, we need to live a life of faith in God and committed to living in relationship with him.
Hearing God.......2007-02-03
I likes this book very much. I will look for more work done by this author.
Book Description
Based on classic Experiencing God principles, Hearing God's Voice is for those who are ready to listen. Beloved author Henry Blackaby and his son Richard help those who are listening to discern the voice of God, to identify ways He speaks, and to respond to His revelations of His will.
God speaks to individuals in ways that are personal and unique to each person. God will never say anything that contravenes what He has said in the Bible, and usually He confirms what He has said. After you learn to listen to God, hearing from God will be as natural as communicating with a close friend.

Great book!.......2007-08-23
I highly recommend purchasing and reading "Hearing God's Voice". The book is informative, instructive and grounded in the truth of Biblical scripture. It is one of the best books I have read in a long time.
A book of completely wrong teachings.......2007-02-25
The authors of this book, Henry and Richard Blackaby, write in a congenial manner. The book contains many personal anecdotes which are used to illustrate the principles which the authors advocate. As one would expect, there is much which is similar to what had previously appeared in "Experiencing God", since Henry Blackaby was a co-author of that book. There is no doubt that these authors desire to please God. However, their genuine devotion to God does not automatically imply that what they proclaim is valid. Sincerity and truth are two completely different issues. In reality, the entire general teachings of this book have no foundation in principles from the Bible (in spite of the fact that many passage of Scripture are given). Consequently the teachings they advocate are completely wrong.
The authors briefly interact with the book "Decision Making and the Will of God", by Garry Friesen (p. 3-5). (I am referring to the international edition of the Blackabys' book, and I am not sure whether these page numbers which I mention agree or not with the American edition.) The authors allege that the people who hold the views presented by Friesen "... generally contend that biblical heroes such as Abraham, Moses, Peter, and Paul are not meant to serve as models for modern Christians." That allegation is totally false. To give just one example, in Friesen's book (original 1980 edition, p. 235-239), Paul's life is used as an example of steps in the decision-making process, valid and applicable for believers today. Later the authors claim that this decision-making approach is based upon the assumption that "God is too busy managing a vast universe to bother with the personal lives of billions of people and their comparatively minor issues; ..." (p. 4). Of course, the authors never give a specific instance of any person making such a claim. This absurd allegation would be utterly silly except for the fact that they are serious. Subsequently, they misrepresent Friesen's teaching about the reliability of human reasoning processes. They do correctly quote Friesen (p. 5) as saying, "Most of the time, our five senses are reliable interpreters of reality, for God designed them to be trustworthy." However, they conspicuously neglect to quote his very next sentence: "But whenever there is a conflict between one's own perception of reality and what God says is true, the wise believer trusts God's Word (cf. 2 Kings 6:15-17.)" (These quotes are from p. 248 in Friesen's book, original edition.) The authors then quote Isaiah 55:8-9 in a (false) attempt to refute what Friesen had said. These three examples are classic illustrations of the logical fallacy of a "straw man", which they build up only to knock it over, and thereby give the incorrect conclusion that the teachings of someone else are wrong. The fact that these authors have completely distorted another person's teachings is one clear sign, although not the only one, that they lack an adequate foundation for the principles which they advocate.
Later, they attempt to establish a distinction between doctrine or theology vs. personal experience (p. 10-12). They ask the supposedly rhetorical question: "Why would a person choose a static theology over experiencing the living Christ?" (Notice the extremely biased way in which the question is worded.) However, the question is invalid, for doctrine and experience are not mutually exclusive. (Ironically, the previously-mentioned quotes from Friesen's book are contained in a chapter entitled "Guidance Is Personal".)
It is very important to note that the entire book is permeated with the fallacy of using the words "speaks" or "speaking" in several different and/or ambiguous ways, some of which are mutually contradictory. The essence of what these authors advocate is that God "speaks" in inaudible voice via means of inner impressions and/or subjective feelings. This is essential to remember, especially as the authors list various ways in which God "speaks" in both the Old Testament and the New Testament. They give summary lists of these 24 Old Testament and 16 New Testament ways (p. 31-32, 38). What is most significant about these lists is what is conspicuously absent. There is no mention of any Scriptural account in which God "spoke" via an inner impression. In other words, what the authors advocate, throughout their entire book, is not found anywhere in the Bible. If the authors' lists are exhaustive (as apparently they attempted to make them), then, ironically, they have proven that their meaning of God "speaking" is completely unbiblical.
In concluding their section on how God "speaks" in the Old Testament, they give a category heading of "various unspecified ways", and list eight quotations, followed by these questions: "Were these instances referring to an audible voice? Were they dreams? Were they visions?" A careful study of these Bible verses clearly indicates that the answer to their first question is "yes", while the answer to the other two questions is "no". They further claim, "We are not told specifically how God spoke, ..." However, the direct inference is that God spoke in an audible voice, using a known language. God never spoke in an inaudible voice.
Personal feelings and inner impressions certainly are a part of each person's life, but they do NOT constitute communication from God to individual people.
There is no need to comment on anything from chapters 3-12. There is no legitimate foundation for the teachings which these authors advocate. Consequently, everything which follows is invalid. Yes, these authors are sincere in what they advocate, but they are sincerely wrong.
Excellent treatment on hearing God's voice.......2005-05-13
This book has been so helpful to me and to many of my friends. Henry and Richard Blackaby have done a marvelous job of describing how God speaks in the O.T. and how He speaks in the N.T. through His Word, through the Holy Spirit, through other people, and circumstances. They intersperse helpful anecdotes, conversion stories and personal illustrations from their lives throughout the book as well.
To me, the most helpful chapters were the ones dealing with how the Holy Spirit works and speaks, how to meditate on God's Word and how God speaks through His Word, how to respond to God's voice, and the helpful questions and answers.
Here is a list of the table of contents in this book:

I've bought and given this book to many of my friends. They've all told me that they were helped tremendously by this book. Highly recommended!!
I learned so much from this book.......2005-05-02
Henry and Richard present a very Scriptural, balanced approach to this subject. This book helps us develop the kind of relationship with God where we know, recognize, and respond to His voice. While it's not some mystical, super-spiritual stuff, it does take time as we develop that kind of walk with God.
Whether you don't feel you know God at all, or just want to know Him better, this book is for you.
Great.......2003-02-07
I thought that this book was worth buying, I got a lot out of it. This book is about having a better relationship with God by learning to hear his voice, finding and following His will. It's a good book for new Christians and mature ones. They also ask the question if God talks to people today and if God has a will for every Christian's life, they present both arguments and give you their take, which I agree and that is that yes God has a will for your life. It talks about how to tell if something is from God or the devil. It also covers how God used to talk to people in the past as well as the present. I found the book easy to read, informative and helpful. I really think that the authors covered a lot of stuff and that they did their research.
Book Description
Do you want to develop a more intimate prayer life? Even more, do you want to hear from God in practical ways? Let Priscilla Shirer prepare you by giving you a deeper understanding of the Holy Spirit. Based on the life of Samuel, who first heard God’s voice while still a small boy, and packed with practical examples from Priscilla’s own life. He Speaks to Me speaks directly to the need to develop a richer prayer life and deeper, more intimate relationship with God, and to learn how to comfortably share their experience of God with others. Very well timed, given the trends.
Customer Reviews:
Biblically Sound?.......2007-08-14
I appreciate the author's desire to bring readers closer to God and I don't for a moment wish to challenge her faith in Christ, but the premise of her book is theologically questionable.
For example, Samuel wasn't even a believer when God spoke to him, so why is he a model for how Christians can learn to hear God's voice? (Indeed, the Biblical text specifically says Samuel "did not yet know God" in 3:7.) More to the point, where is it ever taught in Scripture that 1) it's normative for Christians to get subjective, personal messages from God, or 2) that we need to cultivate a discipline of hearing God's voice outside of Scripture itself?
Here's a question: Does God try? That is, should we assume he is trying to speak to us but can't get through because we aren't spiritually in tune enough to hear Him?
If God has to try at anything, He's not sovereign. And if he's speaking, but making it difficult for us to hear, He's cruel. No, when God wants to communicate personally to humans--believers or non-believers--He does so in unmistakably clear terms. No guesswork involved. Thus, no need to develop an ability to hear His voice.
One more problem. If we truly think God is speaking to us through various "promptings" and "leadings," it follows these alleged words from God are on par with Scripture and carry the same authority. After all, God's word is God's word, right?
The Bible has 66 books with marching orders for Christians. I suspect most of us have not yet fulfilled those orders. Given that, why are we always looking for more revelation?
Instead of looking for the latest "word," why not study the one we already have? It's tough work, but pays a much higher dividend.
Excellent motivational Bible study!.......2007-08-14
Though I have not yet finished this book, what I have read is amazing! It is inspirational, motivational, and will give you the "push" that you need to fully give your life to God and see the awesome places and things He has planned for you!! I highly recommend it!
Excellent study.......2007-07-25
I just finished reading He Speaks to Me by Priscilla Shirer and it was wonderful! If you like Beth Moore, you will definitely like Ms. Shirer. Some books that I read like this often fizzle out towards the end and pack less punch, but this one only got better. I think I underlined half the book! I felt encouraged, comforted and convicted all at the same time and I very much look forward to applying this practical principles to my life. They are not new principles, but her directness and clarity really made it so real to me. I can also relate to her as she is a mom of young children as well! It is based on 1 Samuel 3. Very worth the read!
good group book.......2007-03-23
A group of women related only by neighborhood (not church affiliation or denomination, nor maturity in faith) are doing this study. It is a challenge for sure, but worth recommending!
The study focuses on why young Samuel heard the voice of God, and how we (particularly women) can be more directed and transformed by Him. The author is not afraid to get to your heart and ask tough questions.
Note: "hearing from God" is not charasmatic in this book, but it pushes the reader to dig into the word of God for true understanding and transformation. The "homework" questions are open-ended, rather than fill in the blank, but very manageable to do for a weekly study.
Hot public topics (wives submitting to husbands, homosexuality, legalism, and more) are in this study. This might present a challenge in group discussions, but don't shy away from it! Take the lead from the author and concentrate on your own heart, rather than the failings of anyone else, and you'll find true value in this book.
Our group has grown (in numbers, faith, and relationship with each other) during the course of this study.
Best Study on Prayer.......2006-11-10
Priscilla does a fantastic job on explaining why our prayers may go unanswered. Learning how to open your heart to the Lord and let Him work in and through you is so vitally important. There is also a Bible study workbook to go along with this book. The ladies of our church are just finishing up this study and have enjoyed it. I would recomend this to anyone who wants to get serious about their prayer life and worship of the Lord.
Product Description
This practical guide to hearing God's voice shows how an ordinary man who committed to hearing God and obeying Him, became the founder of the largest inter-denominational missions organization in the world.
Loren Cunningham's dream began with a vision -- waves of young people moving out across the continents announcing the Good News of Jesus Christ to the whole earth. Decades later, Loren's vision has grown into an interdenominational movement of Christians from around the world who are dedicated to presenting the Gospel to this generation.
How did God move Loren's dream from vision to reality? He led Loren and his wife, Darlene, through a series of tough lessons in guidance. The exciting story of Youth With A Mission has much to teach us about the art of listening to God as we seek to be used by Him. Is That Really You, God? is not only a practical guide to hearing God's voice but also an amazing testimony to how following His direction can impact our lives and our world for the glory of God's kingdom.

Learn to hear the voice of the Lord.......2007-07-03
This book was simply wonderful, so much so that I read it from cover to cover in just one day, but the lessons I learned from it are sure to last a lifetime. Like Mr. Cunningham, I too have been able to hear the voice of the Lord quite often. Though other Christians around me have told me that it is quite an "uncommon" gift. But once I began to read Mr. Cunningham's book, I realized that it's NOT uncommon, or at least it should not be! And Mr. Cunningham's tales of the amazing things that can happen when one follows the voice of the Lord are not only exciting and awe-inspiring, but humbling. I have become quite inspired by Mr. Cunningham and hope that the Lord may teach me to be as patient, as open (to listening), and as faithful as Loren and his companions. Also given in the back of this book are twelve steps to hearing the Lord. Several of these steps I have been using before I ever read this book (and can attest that they work!), but there are some that I was not aware of until now, and am quite happy to put them to daily use. If you think you are hearing the voice of the Lord, definitely pick up this book. You will thank me (and Loren) for it!
A Guide Worth Following.......2003-06-10
This is easy to read narrative story will hold the reader's attention well. The author shares stories of situations in which he successfully discerned the "voice of God" and other times when he failed. He examines both his successes and failures and brings the reader to an understanding of the principles by which each one of us can learn to listen to "God's voice" for personal direction. That fact that he shares his failures with the reader lends even greater credibility to his successes. This is the first book I've read by L. Cunningham, but not the last. I recommend the book to anyone who is honestly seeking God's direction in his or her lives. It doesn't give pat answers and formulas, but it does offer biblical principles that have been tested by others throughout the centuries and today, as Cunningham attests to in the book. The guidance of God will take you closer to the heart of God.
a modern classic.......2000-08-04
This book show what might happend when you let God take controll in your life. A bok about a modern pioner and hero Loren Cunningham.
It has impacted my life so much!.......1999-11-03
In fact I have the urge to read it over and over again that it becomes an important guide in my walk with God--not to make it like the Bible, but the message of the book itself is a revelation to me. Thanks Loren and Jannie.
This changed my prayer life!.......1999-06-13
I've read this book many, many times. This last time I was seeking an answer from God and wondering if what I was hearing was really the voice of the Lord. I learned to seek the Lord not the answer, to focus on God not just the tools He uses in our lives. I learned some steps to be really open to hearing God's voice.

I would recommend this book for anyone wanting to know have a deeper understanding of what God "may" be telling you. Great book overall.
How to Hear From God - Study guide.......2007-03-20
Very Helpful - goes along very well with book.
Helpful Advice From Someone With Credibility.......2006-01-23
Joyce Meyer has overcome a lot in her life and her teachings are intended to help you get ahead in your own struggles. In this book she points out the myriad ways God speaks to His people. Keep in mind, Jesus said His sheep will hear His voice, so this is a scriptural principle. In the introduction she lays out some of the diverse ways one can expect to hear: His Word, nature, people, circumstances, peace, wisdom, supernatural intervention, dreams, visions, and the "inner witness." All these are mentioned in the scriptures. Throughout the book she explains.
This is not a book intended only for acquiring new information. It's a book for application of principles. There are reflective questions that help you to see how to tap into the lessons being taught. This book will help you grow spiritually.
Personal responsibility is an integral part of hearing from God. Meyer points out that Jesus told us to be careful how we hear, i.e., not just receive information by default, but be consciously in control of what we allow to influence us. All the ways of God are right and sure, and in hearing from Him, we learn the route He has for our lives. Listening is an active part of prayer.
Pretty Good Lessons, but more funny then heart wrenching.......2005-01-02
I really wanted to hear from God after reading this book. Like most joyce myer books, they dont change my life, but they give me an up front view of what I have to do - in order to please God and fix the problem. Great examples from the bible and stories but no direct instructions a young person (19) like myself wanted. I can truly say she never writes a boring book but this one didnt do anything for me personally.

A wealth of information and inspiration.......2007-01-03
Debra Farrington presents a rather complete compendium of a variety of discernment tools in an easy reading, inspiring and thought-provoking manner. Whether you are hoping to find a path toward a specific goal or simply looking at how God is working in your life, this is a very helpful and enjoyable book.
Discernment as practical art.......2003-03-21
Debra Farrington's book offers sage, practical, insightful direction to those seeking to know more about discernment and how to practice this art. The language is accessible--in my experience, people from high school students to octogenarians engage the material and actively learn from it. The book is a valuable resource for anyone teaching courses on Christian spirituality. The author mulches the text with scripture, stories from the tradition, anecdotes from personal history and other sources. Consequently, the reader is artfully drawn into an ongoing conversation about the practice of discernment, and emerges from the conversation with tools, hope and common sense.
While keeping us mindful of the infinite mystery of God, Farrington reminds us that we have been given capacities to respond to God's desires for us as persons, community, nation, world.

This book will help you to open the eyes of your heart........2007-02-02
This book helped me to hear God's still small voice inside my heart. It's well crafted and focuses on Jesus. Therefore I can highly recommend it to anybody who wants to be closer to God and live in the unity with YHWH (John 17)
For the sceptics there is a good part about the difference between new age and Christianity.
Great Book.......2007-01-13
This is a wonderful and systematic way of working through random thoughts in order to align them up to scripture and God's presence in order to sense and know God's voice, direction and nearness. I loved his video series and I have learned to hear God in the midst of some sticky business situations. I have heard the voice of God in ministry situations that were life changing to me as well as the person I was ministering to. Many times the Lord has stopped me in what I was doing to call someone or go somewhere that I would normally have thought was unusual. But, I've done these things the Lord impressed on my heart and have seen many miracles. I didn't really like the stuff on diet as much, but I'm sure there is some truth to it.
I would recommend this book, Mark and Patty's ministry to anyone. Oh, except people like the any others who feel it necessary to be the self-appointed police of the Body of Christ and knock others. Anyone who has the patience to slow down, get in to God's presense, shove other thoughts out and be in His Word, can hear God. Maybe some more than others, but I've seen it over and over that those who are hungry for Him, will have their hunger satisfied. Sound familiar?
May as well buy a Ouiji Board!.......2007-01-08
BEWARE TRUE CHRISTIAN!
If I could, I'd give this book zero stars. As the title of my review says you may as well consult an Ouija board, to hear from god; this book and many others like it are the newest rage in the Church today and MOST are nothing more than New Age teachings carefully "sugar coated" with Christian terminology. I would suggest that the author get to KNOW Gods Voice, as opposed too hearing it, but then again if he did, he as well as those who fall for this kind of garbage wouldn't fall for it to begin with. Wake up Church!; not everybody nor every book that says LORD, LORD is of God!

I first read Jennifer's book from cover to cover in a few nights and loved it! But then I decided to get a group of about 10-12 ladies together and do a bible study. We all loved this study! But more importantly, each one of us learned to better hear God's voice by working through this awesome book! Jen's insight into God's work is incredible and her humor she uses makes you want to hurry to get to the next chapter.
