Good Start but more basic.......2006-12-29

There is alot of useful information, but it's mostly on the aspects of the Goddess. This is less of an "eploring deeper" book and more of a primer for actual worship. Great start for beginners though.

Fun to read, but take with a grain of salt........2005-07-12

This book is quite informative in addressing many different Goddess stories and legends from many different cultures in a brief, fun-to-read format but the historical information the author provides seems rather vague and incomplete. It proves to be an entertaining indulgence, nonetheless. However, if you want to address the worship of the Goddess in a more practical and educational manner, I would suggest looking elsewhere. There is some good advice here for beginners and those who wish to use the book as a quick-reference guide or as a possible overview, but I wouldn't use this book for any in-depth studies of the craft. Also, the repetitive spelling errors can become quite annoying.

The Goddess in all her aspects explained.......2003-07-02

Ms. Conway is one of my favorite authors and with this book she really hits home. She expains the three aspects of the triple Goddess in detail, complete with myths and lore. The untrue myth that the dark goddess is all about gloom and doom is completely shattered in the section on the Crone. The Goddess is to be respected in all her aspects and is essential to birth, death and rebirth. This book also contains meditations to meet with and understand all three of the Sacred Mother's faces. A definite keep in my library!

A comprehensive collection of goddess myths.......2003-06-10

This book brings togeather all sorts of goddess myths and Conway has sectioned them into catagories. A great read for understanding the relationship of the goddesses in many diffrent patheons. However the guieded meditations in the back are a little diffrent. I would seggest reading other books on goddess worship before you choose this form of connection.

A wonderful read........2002-02-08

This book is a wonderful intro to the mysteries of the Goddess, it gives very clear insight into seeing how She works in and which aspects apply to situations in our daily lives. This book makes one want to delve more deeply into Goddess lore and legend I highly recommend it.

Must Have!.......2007-06-15

After my second child's birth I was really stressed out with the jealousy of my older child, my husband's long work hours, and my post-partum depression. Beth's words of wisdom helped alleviate my guilt, especially when I felt like I was anything but an ideal mother. Her humor raised a smile and she tackled some topics that, unfortunately, mothers don't always talk about because we're afraid to admit that we don't love every aspect of motherhood (which, btw, is very natural).
Beth also encouraged me to take time out for myself and when with my children, to truly enjoy them. I still carry this book around with me....

As a new mother, I absolutely adored this book. The author shared all of the thoughts and feelings of the new mother, which were the same as I was having about my new role in such a beautiful and heartfelt way, which helped me feel less isolated.

Lousy Bare Essentials -- Disappointing.......2007-01-19

No idea why this little nothing of a book is earning such positive recommendations. (Well, I note that one five star review below is by one of the book's co-authors!) It is not really anything more than a one prayer, one page instruction book for the rosary, with the prayer on the right page, a small illustration on the facing page. Do you know the little blue "Pray the Rosary" books by Rev. Lelan, printed since the 1950s by the Catholic Book Co.? Exactly the same idea here, but in a little hardcover, with Medieval icons as the illustrations. Actually it's not even as good as those little give-aways, since they offer memorable little thoughts to help focus the prayer: "I desire forgiveness for my sins," "I desire the virtue of patience," etc. This book does offer brief scriptural readings to accompany each prayer, its true--but then so does a rosary pamphlet I picked up for 50 cents.

Sorry to be so grumpy about it; I was just expecting more. There's nothing wrong with this book per se. It just doesn't offer anything that you can't get elsewhere in free or nearly free Catholic publications.

Additional Gripe: Notice how glorious and grand the illustrations seem if you preview this book with the Search Inside feature. But this book is about 3" by 5", so the pictures are around 2" by 3", about the size of a wallet photograph.

Eye-Opening Little Wonder.......2006-12-26

The best aid to prayer! Little prayer-helper that can be taken anywhere and which truly deepens the act and understanding of the Rosary. Love it! Just as I devoured "The How-To Book of the Mass" this one will get dogeared and tattered.

Wow! It Works!.......2007-10-10

Alright, I know this review is LONG, but I have to say it all. I have had 2 Janet's CD's on my Amazon wish list for a long time, but couldn't justify the purchase. I mean, I have heard enough hypnosis CDs that have NOT been worth the money, and mostly downright disappointing. I didn't want this one to be the same. I finally took the plunge and ordered "Becoming the Goddess" and one other.

Can I just say I love her voice? Okay, I love her voice! Most hypnosis tapes drive me COMPLETELY INSANE with my random thoughts fighting themselves about, "forget the person's annoying voice, focus on what they're saying...oh what are they saying?...How much time have I wasted now....OKAY FOCUS!" But, with Janet's voice, she is so natural and yet soothing that I can just "go" with it, no effort. She's not trying to be calming and soothing, she just IS.

The first time I listened to "Becoming the Goddess," I was so surprised (read: jaw dropping amazement), because I "saw" everything in the meditation before she described them, and exactly as she described them (except for the color I was wearing). Only that one minor detail was different. That simply blew me away, because it was as if I REALLY was there, or was experiencing a past life that I truly had. In just a few sessions of the CD, it has already deepened my personal spiritual practice, and has allowed me to tap into a greater wisdom as I help others. I can't wait to see what happens as I continue to use the program.

Spiritually I don't relate to traditional patriarchal religion, and so her meditation connects me to the feminine divine in a way that I was missing, and looking for, on my own. If that describes you too, I'm pretty confident you'll like this one.

For those of you with a lot of mind chatter like me, I appreciate the LONG induction present on this CD, because it is long enough for me to let go of the chatter and concerns of the day (no small feat!).

The first hypnosis/guided meditation is a prep for the second hypnosis/guided meditation. The second one is really the "STAR" of the CD. It is already creating a new transformation and evolution in my growth. I look forward to my daily session of meditation now, and can't wait to see more changes in myself.

I hope Janet does another one of these CDs, but once the meditation leads me to the circle of stones, to just have quiet, and let me "travel" on my own for a while, and then bring me back. That way, it could be different "journey" every time and allow me to bring back my own messages and wisdom.

Okay, -"phew!"- Enough already! Just treat yourself to this CD and enjoy the transformation for yourself. You and those you touch can't help but be changed for the better! I mean, who couldn't use more love, wisdom, compassion, confidence, empowerment,patience, and being the living embodyment of the Divine? Count me in!

WOW ! SOMETHING THAT WORKS & IS NOT CHEESY!.......2006-03-30

I cannot say enough in regards to this Hypnotic CD. For starters, her voice is calming and sounds "sane". Not all trippy or grossly persuasive. She interweaves the breathing techniques with reminders of focusing on the body in ways that deeply took me into another state. Meanwhile, the Goddess Meditation portion, definitly has a Wiccan/Earth based feel, but it really takes you in a different direction after that. To a more personal Goddess-merging. I really connected with a primal aspect of the Goddess I had not previously. Hearing the chanting in one portion ( where a few voices chant to Anu) made me think , " wow wouldn't it be nice if there were repetitive chant CDS available to draw particular Goddesses in". The feeling after using the CD Is very uplifting, I was ready to take on the world and felt a great compassion. I will use this one again and again, its very therapeutic!

Excellent!.......2005-12-21

This CD, "Becoming the Goddess", by Janet Decker is a really powerful trance meditation that assists women with getting in touch with their inner Goddess archetype. It's amazing. The first meditation concentrates primarily on feeling the Great Mother archetype of the Goddess and that is a good introduction to the whole concept. But, the second meditation is absolutely amazing. It's like the Goddess, the Celtic Anu (achetypal representation of the maiden aspect - female power, independence, etc.), is channeled from on high. I've used this meditation for almost two years now and the psychological transformation is complete. Women need to have images of the Divine as female in order to understand the legitimacy of female power, beauty, and independence. Without that image firmly implanted in our minds, any outside changes are only temporary.

A set aside: Janet Decker's meditation is good to use in conjunction with Starhawk's "Way to the Well". You can obtain it from Serpentine Music online. Starhawk's "Way to the Well" is a trance chant meditation that assist a woman in gaining personal power from within by using the archetype of the Goddess Brigid. I believe that if a woman uses these meditations on a regular basis, she can achieve anything she wants.

Even thought I'm a longtime practicioner of Wicca, there are times when a frazzled Witch has trouble tuning in to "Mama" This CD comes in handy for quickly and reliably connecting with the Goddess, and is general enough for practicioners of any faith or view. I sometimes listen to it in a herbal bath for the ULTIMATE relaxation Womb experience after a freaky day. (Please, be safe w/electricity and make sure you're "propped up" in the bath)
I haven't yet tried this one on my husand (Pilot, science-minded skeptic & sometime guinea pig/but he DID marry a Witch!)but it should be fun!

I received this as a gift - what a gift! The passages are short, but very relevant to a new mom's emotions of joy, stress, etc. The book also addresses decisions (like going back to work)and changes in your marriage - which I found helpful. After having my baby I began to read this book, which was a GREAT gift. My first thought was, WOW there is someone out there who has taken the time to write about how I am feeling. The author candidly covers various emotions that any postpartum mother would experience. During a time when I was feeling lots of emotions and uncertainty, this book soothed my soul a bit. Thanks Ms. Lehman for taking the time for new moms.

Every new mother needs this book. It makes a wonderful gift. Patricia Sprinkle truely brings to light what must be going through a babies mind. Wonderful Book!.......2007-05-21

I received this book as a gift after the birth of my third child in 1986. It is just beautiful. When we were having our babies in the late '60's & early '70's, my friends and I gave this splendid book to each other. Then it went out of print. To my delight it reappeared in recent years. This wonderful book is a collection of thirty meditations for the new mother, written by Christian author and speaker Helen Good Brenneman. Starting with a special one for the first day, each one has a Bible passage, a short homily, a prayer, and an uplifting poem.

I bought this book sight unseen for my wife, and am very glad that I did. The author is widely known and respected in Mennonite circles, but this book is written in a non-denominational manner that will make it a wonderful gift for any Christian mother. My wife and I both love this book, and highly recommend it to you.

Just Right!.......2003-02-21

I purchase a supply of these books evey so often to keep on hand for the new mothers in our church. A friend gave it to me when my son was born and I just loved it. The birth of a baby is such a wonderful, sensitive time and this touches your heart and spirit in all the right ways.

Great Information in Small Package.......2004-06-30

I agree with the previous reviewer in that this book is definitely up to par with Telesco's other well-researched titles. The format of the little series is meant for a "gifty" market (I think) and therefore the price is a bit high for a small tome. Nonetheless the author does a fine job of cramming the pages with research and practical information as always.

Nice Little Book on Mirrors in Magick.......2004-01-26

Trish Telesco has written a few of these smaller 'pocketbooks' on various topics. The one that comes to mind the most is the one about cats in myth and magic. This book contains much the same type of information. Ms. Telesco covers the myths behind mirrors, examines the uses for mirrors and the different types of mirrors and how to use mirrors in spell magic as well as personal meditations.

The book is researched and the bibliography contains some interesting sources for her research. The material is well laid out, the chapters contain her usual witty references and it is easy to understand.

Her advice is practical in typical Trish Telesco style and she offers encouragement in the practice and study of this particular medium. Overall, the book is a good beginner point for mirror scrying and history of the mirror in magic.

The size of the book was probably determined by the length of the book (only five chapters and two appendixes) and it is a most uncomfortable size. The cover, while catchy (a small reflective surface pasted on the front of the book), is unimpressive. The price of the book is overstated in my opinion for the content of the book, and is based purely on presentation, which I consider not up to par. Had this been a better produced small hard cover with a nicer print job, as her cat book, I would have been a bit more pleased at the presentation.

If you are getting this book as a gift, it may be worth the price, but to augment my own personal library I would wait till it was discounted a bit before purchase.

Please note the content of the book is worthy of attention, but the packaging and pricing is a bit off. boudica
