Book Description
What-did you think all vamps were pale, thin and brooding? Don't I wish.
Gloriana St. Clair is an eternally "full-figured" vampire-she just happened to be bloating when a sexy Scotsman sank his teeth into her. She and said Scot-Angus Jeremiah Campbell III, aka Jeremy Blade-have been on and off again for centuries, currently off. A couple hundred years has taught them how to press each other's buttons-in good ways and bad.
Glory's headed for Austin and a new business venture: Vintage Vamp's Emporium. After all, she loves clothes, and she is an antique. Only problem is, there's a billionaire techno-freak vampire hunter on the loose. Blade's in total he-vampire mode, and wants Glory to move in with him so he can "protect" her. But it's time for this vamp to explore her own powers

Smart, funny and romantic with a twist of action packed thrills!.......2007-09-10
I have just recently become aware of a new genre of writing, "Supernatural chick lit". Sounds weird right? NOT AT ALL! I am so in love with this genre of books I can't get enough of them. I loved Chick lit to begin with and I love Sci-Fi. It is like Bridget Jones meets Van Helsing. This is one of my favorite series to date (also love the Sookie Stackhouse Vampire novels by Charlaine Harris and MaryJanice Davidson's Undead series). Glory St. Clair is an everywoman who just happened to have been turned into a vampire when she was PMS'ing. Now she is forever bloated and plus sized! I loved her and her love interest, Blade. I would recommend this book for anyone craving a little romance, humor and action! I can't wait to get the 2nd book!
Entertaining bubble bath read.......2007-08-28
Glory is the type of vampire chick that I would have as a friend. The book is written in the first person allowing for good insight into her personality. The obvious drawback to this format is that it is very difficult to understand the motivations of those surrounding Glory. Blade is not my favorite hero, but he seems to have potential. I hope that the following books in the series better develop the supporting characters and strengthen Glory's self-acknowledged character flaws. She is a 400+ year work in progress!
real vampires have curves .......2007-08-23
I enjoyed this book well written and a page turner couldnt wait for the 2nd I hope to see more from gerry bartlett in the near future
Glory's great!!.......2007-08-08
I bought this book when it first came out and didn't get to read it until the newest one was released. I love this book. IT made me laught almost the whole time. Can't wait for the next one. I
An Excellent Vampire Series- with a Real Woman who has Curves! (A Grade).......2007-07-08
Gerry Bartlett broke the mold when she came up with Glory St. Clair. Glory is a 500 years old plus vampire who has become a total modern girl. She is a "real" woman, meaning a size 12 and not a size 2 like most heroines found in romance whether they be historical, modern or paranormal. This first book in the Glory vampire series is funny, heartwarming and very erotic. It is also very refreshing to read about the potluck of characters that Glory surrounds herself with, including her creator and love of her undead life, Gerry.
For ultimate laughs and modern day problems such as dating, sex and trying to get through the ho-hum (including trying to stay alive from evil vampire hunters), this is the book for fans of romance and comedy all rolled into one. Again, the true reason to start reading this series is because of Glory. Everything is told in her first person point of view, ala "Sex in the City."
A true laugh a minute that will not disappoint, plus very hot sex!

My thoughts on Pillar of Light.......2007-03-08
The Work and the Glory Pillar of Light was a good book for three reasons. First it described the different points of view of the people of the time. Some believed Joseph's story and some didn't. The second reason is it tells about the history of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints that helped me better understand how the church was organized. And finally, it was an incredible love story that showed courage and loyalty to ones beliefs and oneself. This is why I liked the Pillar of Light.
I tried..........2006-02-17
I wanted to like these books. I really did. I enjoy historical fiction, and the research that Lund put into the writing of these books is amazing. But Lund's writing just leaves a lot to be desired, at least for me. It drove me crazy that women were always running around with their sunbonnets streaming out behind them, or going up on tiptoe to kiss someone. It's like Lund has this cache of phrases stored away somewhere, and he just fills in the blanks as necessary. The characters are all two-dimensional - they don't feel like real people at all. I am a card-carrying member, as it were, of the LDS church, and I believe that Joseph Smith was a prophet, but I also believe that he was a human being with emotions and flaws in his personality, and I would have enjoyed a little more humanism from him, as well as from the other historical figures in the book. I read the whole series because I don't like to leave a story unfinished, and also because it really doesn't take any time at all to get through one of these books, but my views on the writing didn't change at all.
I gave it two stars because of the fact that I did learn a lot about the Church's early history from these books, although I'm well aware that what I did learn is definitely sugar-coated to some degree. So the series does have its merits, I suppose, but if you're looking for a good historical fiction that centers on this time period, I would recommend Saints by Orson Scott Card instead, although if you think these books are the greatest you probably will not enjoy that one.
The best.......2005-10-20
I started reading these books after the movie, 'The work and the glory' came out. I highly recomend these books!! If you know nothing of LDS history (mormon history) These would be great books for you.
The Work and the Glory follows the fictional Steed family. The series starts off when the family moves to Palmyra, New York. It is there they hire the Smith brothers, Joseph Smith and Hyrum Smith. They are swept up in the extrodinary events surounding the man, Joseph. It is there that each of the Steed's must come to terms with the amazing story.
Not only is all of this going along, there is a story behind the history. Lydia McBride, the story keeper's daughter, is beautiful, and takes the Steed boys by surprise. These events will change the Steed's lives forever.
If you love a good romance, this is the series to read. It also gives a better picture of what 'Mormons' believe. I loved the series, and I would recomend it to ANYONE!!!
I LOVE THIS BOOK!.......2005-08-12
I read this book right after I watched the movie 'the work and the glory' in theaters.
It is about the Steed family who lives in the Palmyra township. It is there they meet the aquaintence of Joseph Smith, and just that alone changes their lives forever.
This book tells about the first years of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Even if you are a non believer, you WILL enjoy this book.
Not only are there the historical facts and story, there is love and brotherly rivalry all throughout this book. It really illistraits the persicution of the first few years. Way to go, Mr. Lund!
Superficial read about fictional religious experiences.......2005-05-30
The author does a good job of engaging the reader in a story that is interesting atleast superficially. Taking the LDS Church's official version of it's history and putting characters into the mix, this book will be widely read by the faithful. However anyone who has done even a modicum of reading on Mormon religious history will recognize the flaws in this faith-promoting story. There are serious scholarly works on Mormon history such as "Mormon Hierarchy Extenstions of Power", "Mormon Hierarchy Origins of Power", "An Insider's View of Mormon Origins", and "Early Mormonism and the Magic World View" that deal with the early history of the church in an honest and fortright manner that is not "anti-Mormon". After reading these and other books, "The Work and the Glory" series will be seen as institutionalized sugar-coating of history and little more. These books are for little lambs who are content to be spoonfed the "milk" of the gospel who have no desire to really look into the "meat" of the religion.

Lots of things you were never told........2007-05-13
I really loved reading this book and had a hard time putting it down. It reads much like the Old Testament except the main characters are our forefathers. There is a lot of information in this book that they never told us in school, but should have. The authors of this book tell where they got the information and did a great job putting this book together. I wish I would have read it years ago. It's one of those books you want to pass on to others after you read it.
The Light and The Glory.......2007-03-15
In my judgment "The Light & The Glory" should be required reading for every citizen of the United States as well as those seeking citizenship. This is one of the best books I have every read!
The light and the glory.......2007-01-18
The information in this book is invaluable to each and every American. Now more than ever we should cherish our early beginnings in this country and pass this on to generations to come. The more intimate happenings to our early fathers become more relevant and personal through this well documented study.
Rewarding.......2007-01-10
The people taking Christ out of our daily lives by legislation need to read this book. It points out many times where, without the intervention of the Lord, the battle to establish this country would be lost.
Fascinating Read.......2007-01-05
A well-written book which provides the context for "In God We Trust". Peter Marshall has a viewpoint, and one which is sorely missing from the current historical scene. I found his narration of the Christian roots and history of America truly fascinating. I absolutely recommend this book for its perspective and readability.
Book Description
It's not easy to keep a boyfriend, run a business, and survive for centuries as one of the immortal undead. Glory St. Clair knows-ever since a sexy Scottish vampire bit her while she was a tad...bloated. But when a frustrated vampire hunter firebombs her vintage clothing boutique, she's ready to pitch a fit. Then her long-time, part-time lover takes off in a rage to hunt the hunter and prove himself worthy of her. And that's only the beginning of her troubles.
The Energy Vampires want her-and not in a good way. They're paranormal drug dealers, selling thrills to those who've lived for ages, been everywhere, and done everything...and they want to suck Glory dry. But it'll take more than a few super-suckers to get the goods out of her.

this was an excellent continuation of the first I LOVED THEM BOTH VERY WELL WRITTEN AND ENTERTAINING CANT WAIT FOR THE NEXT ONE
Glory is smart and sassy!.......2007-08-08
I loved this book and can't wait for more with Glory. I get tired of reading books about the "perfect" woman. It's good to read about a woman who's not some skinny minnie. This was an enjoyable book to read and it made ma laugh a lot.
Real Vamps II is Even Better!.......2007-07-21
If you loved Real Vampires Have Curves, prepared to be wowed by Real Vampires Live Large.
Glory St. Clair, the curvaceous, centuries old vamp, thanks to a man, is back and fighting off evil forces determined to mess with her independence. Also back is her maker and on/off again lover, yummy Jeremy Blade. When Glory's vintage clothing shop is fire-bombed, Jeremy is convinced that vampire hunter Westwood (introduced in the first book) is responsible. But this time, there are Energy Vampires (EVs) determined to steal Glory's stored-up power -- in order to make Vampire Viagra.
Real Vampires Have Curves is even funnier, hotter, and more action-packed than Real Vampires Live Large. The chemistry between Jeremy and Glory is even stronger, and Glory's first person narration is every bit as compelling as in the first book. Glory is the sort of character you don't forget because she's like your best friend --with lovable imperfections and a big heart.
If you missed book one, never fear. Bartlett makes it easy for new readers to jump into Real Vampires Live Large. My recommendation is to buy both, however, because after you read one, you'll want the other. Trust me, Bartlett's Vamp books are like potato chips -- you can't read just one!
Glory is Back! Yippy. (B+ Grade).......2007-07-17
Glory, beautiful and the larger than life vamp is back with her hilarious motley crew of undead friends and other shape shifters. Glory this time around has a little triangle going between Gerry, her maker and one true love, or at least lust and Richard who use to be her roommate's fling. Both men adore the person Glory is and they are not afraid to show it. They adore a woman with curves, and she has them, rightly so. It is about time an author showcased a "real" woman in a wonderful interpretation.
Along with the every day issues like running her store, dating and helping her friends out, Glory also has to watch her back because vampire hunters are after her and there is now a black market blood type Viagra, in which one night Glory drinks by accident and you can just imagine what happens (Richard is there this time and not Gerry).
The first person point of view of Glory is so funny and her attraction for Gerry and visa-versa is hot and cute. A true laugh a minute and if only Glory was a real person!
For fans of vampires that have fun and live life to the fullest, this is one read that won't disappoint!

Real Vampires Have Curves (Glory St. Claire, Book 1)
Another Glory Adventure.......2007-07-05
This book is even better that the first "Real Vampires Have Curves". Once again we delve into the life of Ms. Gloriana St. Clair, and her relationships within the vamp community of Austin, Texas. Westwood, the vamp hunter, is still out there, but now Glory is also dealing with a group called the EV's who want to tap her power. Glory had her store burned, Blades left town to hunt Westwood down, a creepy ex is stalking her,and along with Valdez she has a new "protector" all while dealing with her famous curves. What I like best about this book, is the fact that Glory is finding her footing, she's finally getting more independent and powerful in her own right. Life keeps throwing objects in her path and she's dealing with them without also running the Blade. It's a great read, very funny and makes me look forward to her next adventure.

Better than expected.......2007-04-12
I was a little worried after I bought this book and then read the reviews. There were some reviews that said this book was awful but I actually loved it. There were times when I wondered, "how is this going to turn out?" but I was really surprised at the end how great the story was. I think that this series may be even better than the first three. Highly recommended.
Spunky tomboy doesn't know her place.......2002-04-06
Glory, an orphan of sorts herself, flees a disagreeable home and town, only to find she really doesn't fit in much anyplace. After Poppy dies, she is sought by wicked Uncle Amos. Fleeing, she has to defend her virtue, bearing the guilt of what she left behind. If there is anything wagon master Lincoln does not need, it is another girl to have to care for and transport to his final destination. Stubborn, unlearned and unkempt, Glory is determined to make it on her own. Mystery, action and romance happen in spite of Glory, certainly not because of her.
Copeland's "Glory" Packed With Adventure & Romance.......2001-03-23
After the wonderful story of "Hope" I tore into "Glory" like a hungry wolf tears into its prey. Glory, a sheltered mountain girl, is forced to build a life on her own after her Poppy dies. With a bagful of gold and no change of clothes, she sets out in search of a new life. Far too naive for the cold world before her, she ends up on the run from a greedy uncle who wants her gold -- and who will kill her to get it. When she manages to latch on (however unwillingly) to a wagonneer named Jackson and a group of teenaged mail order brides, things REALLY get interesting. In her travels and adventures, Glory grows into a beautiful young woman with an unshakeable faith -- but will her faith be enough to win the heart of the handsome wagonneer? Copeland's "Glory" was glorious. This one's a MUST READ.
Young Readers.......2001-01-16
GREAT FOR YOUNG READERS, I have read all of the Brides series. This one was wonderful. P L E A S E write more books like this.
More Great Reading.......2000-12-20
Continuing in the spirit of her books: Faith, Hope & June; Lori Copeland has written another fun book which leaves you smiling and feeling good. The book reinforces Christian principles while including romance, inspiration, humor and excitement. I Can't wait for the next one!

History In Perspective.......2007-01-17
If you like historical novels, the Prelude To Glory series is one of the best. As with the previous eight books, By Dawn's Early Light combines factual history with the fictional Dunson family. So ends the liberties taken by poetic license, which is not to say that it isn't a good fiction story. Throughout the series, Ron Carter has moved a captivating story at the perfect pace.
For the history buffs, it's all there. The research and accuracy is astounding - as it should be. If your recollection of American history has faded, or you were never clear about event particulars, these are the books that will lay it all out, place the event, and put it in perspective. Each chapter is followed by footnotes that explain further a portion of the chapter, and offers references that allow the reader to make more in-depth discoveries about the chapter's topics.
This is the ninth in Ron Carter's series and I hope it is not his last. I have written to the author with the suggestion that he step back in time previous to the first book, Our Sacred Honor, which began the series with the first battles of the American Revolution. I have no doubt that Mr. Carter would lay a perfect foundation for what he has already written with the first nine novels. It would also relieve some of my envy of those who have not yet read this series and have it all ahead of them to enjoy.

Color and Light in Nature
ASIN: 0521236053 |
Book Description
Over two hundred illustrations, many in full color, capture for both the layman and scientist the beautiful otical effects that we see in the sky. The author describes and explains these effects in non-technical language. In addition to discussing such well-known phenomena as rainbows and halos, he treats the rarer ones, including sun pillars, sun dogs, glories, mirages, and many others. Computer simulations are used to make the physical origins of these events intelligible. The book sensitizes readers to a wide range of optical penomena in the sky, explains how to look for them, and imparts an incerased awareness and aesthetic apprecaiation of these fascinating effects.
This book is a reprinted edition of the hard cover book originally published by Cambridge University Press in 1980.

The definitive textbook on atmospheric optical effects........1997-12-03
This is the standard textbook on atmospheric optical effects, by the Professor of Physics at the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. His book features precise explanations of the physics behind all optical atmospheric phenomena, from halos and parhelia to sun pillars, Parry's arcs, glories and the "Spectre of the Brocken". Computer modeling is used to recreate light rays through ice crystals in various orientations to explain the changing shapes of atmospheric optical effects with different angles between the sun and the horizon. But scientific precision also comes with a very readable text. Over a hundred color photographs illustrate some of the beautiful visual effects that can be seen in the sky. Interesting sidelines are also explored, such as making and photographing your own infra-red rainbow! Finally, various intriguing puzzles are left for the reader to solve, such as the photograph shown on the cover of the book - how can there be a rainbow over a snow-covered landscape? For those who really want to understand the optics of atmospheric effects, this book is required reading.

Must Read!.......2006-03-10
This book is a must read for children to get a proper perspective of history. Public school textbooks will not reflect our Christian roots. Parents should read the regular version. My 9 year old granddaughter says this is her favorite book.

Great and educational book. My son loved it and he does not care to read. This is a must for all out there.
Children will gain insight about America's Christian roots........1999-06-17
Like the adult book of the same title, The Light and the Glory for Children examines evidence for America's Christian roots. The authors reveal a past that is not at all smooth. The challenges of settling this land and building a new nation are shown in their harsh reality. Equally, the faith that strengthened the people for these challenges is presented as inspiration for tomorrow's citizens and leaders. Review questions in the back of the book helped my children explore their own values and beliefs about their country. There could be no better way to raise responsible citizens than to have them investigate our Christian heritage through this book.

One of my favorite LaVyrle Spencer's!.......2007-09-10
One of Spencer's gifts is invoking the feel of the time period she is writing about. It's all in the little details that are included to give you a real sense of the time and place.
I re-read Morning Glory every year or so and enjoy it every time. Will and Elly are classic characters finding love and redemption from hard-knock lives. The only quibble I have is that the book gets a little buried in sincerity and goodness. A little more humor on Will or Elly's part would have gone a long way to liven up sections. I know Spencer was going for deep, homespun love, but at times it just feels lethargic.
Still love it though and love what little humor there is in the book.
Very much recommended.
Good story, but too explicit.......2007-08-17
I enjoyed this story & I'm not a prude, but it was just too explicit for me. I understand that Lula's character had to be described & the sexual tension between Will & Elly had to be developed, but it got to be too much. I agree with the reviewer's comment about the obsession with tongues--it became annoying after awhile. I also think the repetitive descriptions dragged the momentum down as well. (How often do we have to read about Elly staring at the moles on Will's back?!) Enough already!
4 stars...very enjoyable..........2007-04-27
Description from back of book:
In town, they called her "Crazy Widow Dinsmore." But Elly was no stranger to their ridicule-she had been an outsider all her life, growing up in a boarded-up old house under the strict eye of her eccentric grandparents. now she was all alone, with two little boys to raise, and a third child on the way.
He drifted into Whitney, Georgia, one lazy afternoon in the summer of 1941, hoping to put his lonely past behind him. He yearned for tenderness he had never known, the home he'd never had. All he needed was for someone to give him a chance.
Then he saw her classified ad: WANTED-A husband. When he stepped across Elly Dinsmore's clutter yard, Will Parker knew he had come home at last...
* This was my first LaVyrle Spencer book & I highly enjoyed it. The storyline. The reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because I felt it was lacking mystery, humor & emotion at a lot of parts when it should've been there. Overall though I would recommend this book.
Excellent Service.......2007-04-03
The book arrived in very good condition and the delivery was very speedy
Wow, people really loved this book..........2007-02-23
...and yes, it certainly is a very nice novel. It's my first LaVyrle Spencer, and I guess I'll keep reading her. The main thing I noticed was that it was extremely similar to the Dorothy Garlock novels I read. I'm not sure which author came first.
Also, I highly recommend Kate Reading's wonderful reading of the book.

I would give this book 10 stars if it was possible! I couldn't put it down and my testimony and understanding of earlier Latter-Day Saint history has grown enormously.
It is a MUST HAVE!!
Wonderful Story especially for LDS.......2005-11-05
I loved this book and the minute i got it, i read it again! This tells the story of Joseph Smith's translation of the gold plates. He recieved a message from God that the plates were buried in a hill and that he was to retrieve them and translate them into the book soon to be know as The Book of Mormon. Joseph Smith is attacked by mobs throughout the book. But that's just the side story. The main character is Nathan Steed who comes from a family of farmers on the frontier. It tells of his life and his struggles and how he meets Joseph. Nathan becomes a strong believer of the church unlike his older brother Joshua who is one of the ones who attacked Joseph. Nathan's mother is married to Benjamin Steed whose pride and stubborness is well known. Joshua and Benjamin already have a strained relationship and the whole family is in conflict. To add to that, Lydia, Joshua's love has given up her love for Joshua for Nathan.
