PICTURE BOOK....TWO MINUTES WORTH.......2007-10-03
I do not recomend this book to anyone.........unless you like looking at pictures.....two minutes of reading time at the MOST and it will not make anyone grieving for a lost friend feel any better.....in my case, made me feel worse!
Check out Kim Sheridans book 'ANIMALS and the AFTERLIFE'...this one will help you..........
Spirit of Animals.......2007-09-20
One of the best Sylvia Brown books I've read. A child would enjoy the contents. Sylvia and her son have done a wonderful job of allowing us a look into the souls of these beautiful animals. I am truly blessed to have had the opportunity to share this experience with them. I highly recommend this book to any animal lover.
Spirit of Animals.......2007-09-09
I did like the book but it was mostly photos of cute animals and not much more . It should be marketed as a childrens book. Not much substance for a reader who is looking for information on animals souls.
Interesting.......2007-09-01
I enjoy reading Sylvia Browne's books and this one also proved to be interesting to me. It shed's light on animal's interaction with us.
Animal! Ah-nee-maaalll!!!.......2007-08-09
Small incandescent fish swirling in celery flames betwixt cinnamon deer stands, alight in the Byzantine stones of accounting hierarchies! Where, O where have all the fluorescent beetle trackings submerged their raging jelly? Foul Fences of Florentine flypaper, running along the sequestered shoreline, and Yarmuk ignites Maalox the Destructor with tetracycline swords. Sylvia, Sylvia, unleash the turvied skirmish mongers!

If you haven't seen Hay House's Lifestyles series of gorgeous gift books, there is no better way to acquaint yourself than with publisher/author Louise Hay's You Can Heal Your Life. A bestseller for many years, You Can Heal Your Life has been republished with bright, beautiful illustrations in full, living color and exquisite typography--each and every page is a work of art by artist Joan Perrin Falquet. The timeless message of the book is that we are each responsible for our own reality and "dis-ease." Hay believes we make ourselves ill by having thoughts of self-hatred. She includes a directory of ailments and emotional causes for each with a corresponding affirmation to help overcome the illness. For example, the probable cause of multiple sclerosis is "mental hardness, hard-heartedness, iron will, and inflexibility." The healing "thought pattern" would be: "By choosing loving, joyous thoughts, I created a loving joyous world. I am safe and free." --P. Randall Cohan

This gift edition is a beautiful book complete with four-color illustrations throughout. "An excellent book for restructuring one's life and finding self- esteem and self-love."

Wonderful information that can apply to anyone's life...how to change your life and get rid of all your excess mental baggage. A definite help book.
Amazing.......2007-09-21
I couldn't put this book down. It was an easy read and I have shared its contents with everyone I come in contact with. I carry it with me and re-read various sections daily to keep the information fresh in my mind. As I apply the principles I see a change in my life. Thank You Louise Hay. I wish I had found this book a long time ago!
A Must-Have for Those Working with Individuals in Distress.......2007-09-18
As a coach and a psychotherapist, I refer to this book in work with my clients very frequently (several times per week), and find it invaluable in helping individuals open to and receive the idea that their illness or physical situation has an underlying meaning that is critical to understand. Ms. Hay articulates the potential underlying problem so clearly and concisely, that my clients are often dumbfounded at the relevance of the message to their emotional challenges at the time. This material educates in a way that's also compassionate and empathic, which is essential in helping people move forward. I'm thrilled to have this book in my library and can't recommend it highly enough!
Fantastic.......2007-09-13
Fantastic book. I am glad I read it. It was worth my time and is a quick read.
A must have if you are seeking answers.......2007-09-07
I am glad that I got this book. I have only had it a couple of weeks, but I read something from it everyday. I love the illustrations and I am open the the suggestions. I am opening myself up to change every time I read her words. The book was worth the wait and I enjoy it everyday.
Book Description
What caused a former Dallas Seminary professor to believe that the miraculous gifts of the Holy Spirit are being given today? What convinced someone skeptical about miracles that God still speaks and heals? A dramatic change took place in Jack Deere's life when he took a fresh look at the Scriptures. He discovered that his arguments against miraculous gifts were based more on prejudice and lack of personal experience than on the Bible. As soon as Deere became a seeker instead of a skeptic, the Holy Spirit revealed himself in new and surprising ways. In Surprised by the Power of the Spirit, Deere provides a strong biblical defense for the Spirit's speaking and healing ministries today. He also describes several reliable cases of people who were miraculously healed or who heard God speak in an unmistakable way. Finally, he gives sound advice for using spiritual gifts in the church. Written in a popular style, with the care of a scholar but the passion of personal experience, this book explores: the real reason Christians do not believe in miraculous gifts, responding to charismatic abuses, whether miracles were meant to be temporary, and why God still heals.

Imperfect but worth reading..........2007-08-29
I stumbled upon Jack Deere's account of his rather dramatic mid-1980s transition from cessationism to continuationism as I was doing research for a seminary paper on cessationism. I was immediately gripped by his engaging story-telling and quickly surprised by the compelling nature of his arguments.
Ultimately, Deere makes a very solid case that cessationism, though espoused by those committed to the Bible (rather than charismatics who are supposedly more committed to experience and emotion), essentially stands on very shaky biblical ground. Deere suggests that a novice Christian, placed in a room with a Bible for a few days or weeks, would inevitably emerge a committed continuationist, never a cessationist. Cessationism requires careful theological and rhetorical tricks and must be trained into a person. And after searching for the biblical basis for cessationism from Warfield, Hodge, and others, I found his point to be well-founded. Quite frankly, cessationism seems to require significant extrapolation beyond the text of the Scriptures.
Though I enjoyed Deere's writing style and found his approach to be insightful, I have two primary and significant critiques. First, just as cessationists tend to argue against a charismatic straw man who doesn't actually exist, Deere seems to often make the same mistake and argue against a heartless, intellectually-obsessed cessationist that is surely the rarest of exceptions, rather than the norm. It was disappointing when he stooped to the level of arguing with a straw man of his own construction (though his situation as a former cessationist does give him the unique insider information to actually construct arguments against his former self).
I was also disappointed with the conclusions that he drew concerning the next steps for anyone in the midst of this theological conundrum. Quite honestly, his tone was sometimes rather condescending and arrogant in relation to cessationists. Though he was careful at other times to maintain a humble spirit, he seemed to ultimately suggest that anyone who doesn't fully embrace his newfound theological position isn't really experiencing an authentic expression of Christianity. It's one thing to try to help people discover something valuable that God has shown you. It's another thing, and decidedly less helpful, to imply that anyone who doesn't make the jump with you is silly or unintelligent or unspiritual.
Ultimately, I'm glad I read this book. I began the book without a firm position on the issue, but I would have considered myself a practical cessationist. After reading it (and reading from several cessationist authors, as well), I no longer find cessationism to be a teneble, viable position. Regardless of your personal stance, I recommend this book for all thoughtful Christians who want to wrestle with the implications of how the Spirit empowers us to live in the here and now.
At last the whole Jesus ministry!.......2007-05-13
First, I found the book amazingly easy to read. Deere weaves stories and personal experience with sharp Biblical insight to make a case for healing and miracles in modern times. He also gently dismantles manmade theological systems that did little more than give us an excuse for our powerlessness. No rancor. No biting accusations. Jesus went into communities to preach the Kingdom, heal the sick and free people from spiritual oppression. Deere simply and humbly makes the case that we can, and should, do the same. Powerful book. Powerful ideas.
A groundbreaking book on the work of the Holy Spirit.......2007-04-13
This has been such a ground-breaking book in changing my worldview from being a staunch cessationist to being one who embraces all the gifts of the Spirit for today. For over 10 years, I totally embraced John MacArthur's viewpoint and the Dallas Theological Seminary viewpoint of cessationism.
Some of the Key Questions that Deere addresses are the following:
What is the real reason why Christians don't believe in miraculous gifts?
What are the main cessationist arguments that argue that these miraculous gifts don't exist today?
How do we respond to Charismatic abuses?
Were Miracles meant to be temporary?
Why does God still heal? Why doesn't He heal?
How to pursue the Miraculous Gifts Today
Jack Deere's book really changed my whole perspective on the miraculous gifts, especially in his comprehensive refutation of the cessationist arguments and on the Scripture passages they use to support their cessationist views. Deere also includes helpful appendices which clarify his assertions in the chapters.
Being a former cessationist for so many years, I felt that Deere's presentation was fair to the cessationist. After all, he was a cessationist for 12 years when he was a professor of O.T. in DTS. I think that Deere's book is essential reading, whether you are a cessationist or not.
The only things I would update in this book are the sections on Paul Cain, especially in light of recent tragic events that has marred his testimony.
Other than that, I highly recommend this book.
Solid Scholarship & Scripturally Insightful.......2007-03-22
This former theology professor was a skeptic who doubted the authenticity of the working of the Holy Spirit until he experienced it for himself. These experiences led him to study the subject in a more open-minded way and he discovered that indeed the Bible teaches that these manifestations are for today.
He explains that these gifts can be developed and vary in effectiveness from one person to the next. This can be compared with the gift of teaching, for example. An individual can have that ability, but its effectiveness is dependent upon its use and development. The more one uses a gift, the greater the increase in its result. Peter mentions (1 Peter 4:10) that each Christian has been given a ministry gift or "charisma," which is to be valued as a contribution to be made to the body at large.
On the topic of gifts, he points out that healing fits that category. God does not heal based on merit. People are healed by Jesus by grace, not effort.
Chapter 14 is particularly strong. It discusses prayer as a means to connect with a real Person. It is not just a ritual or an end unto itself. It is a means of linking oneself with God through Jesus Christ His Son. Deere encourages readers to listen in prayer. Overall this is an extremely helpful book full of beneficial insight on the Scriptures.
Logically and Biblically flawed; will not convince anyone who is not already convinced!.......2005-11-02
I read this book hoping to get a good defense of the charismatic movement. I was extremely disappointed with this book. In spite of all the rave reviews of it, I thought that it is VERY poor work. Many of his arguments are weak, flawed and/or hackneyed, and Deere shows little originality in defending his position.
The book has many flaws. Deere's treatment of his opponents is extremely unfair, and he regularly uses tactics such as ad hominem attacks. He spends an entire chapter arguing that the "only reason" that cessationists disagree with him is their "lack of experience," a classic example of the genetic fallacy, in this case circumstancial ad hominem. One might also wonder about people who have left the charismatic movement after experiencing it (such as myself) - are they cessationists because of "lack of experience" too? I think not. The book also contains many other glaring logical errors, such as straw man arguments and circular reasoning.
An even bigger problem with the work is the fact that Deere consistently ignores the real issues. He ignores the real weaknesses in his position as well as his opponents' real arguments. He does not deal with many of his opponents' arguments, including many of their stronger ones. Even though he claims to be trying to refute B. B. Warfield's book "Counterfeit Miracles," Deere addresses few if any of B. B. Warfield's points. Deere deals with a few of the best arguments for cessationism and few of the books written by the major cessationist authors, and where he does deal with them he deals with them inadequately. Although I cannot comment on his treatment of Norman Geisler's book, which I have not yet read, I can comment that he deals very poorly (if at all) with authors such was Warfield, Gaffin, Hanegraaff, Gardiner, and MacArthur. If you are looking for answers to your questions about the charismatic movement, or a good defense of the movement, do not look to this book - this book will leave you with more questions than answers, and quite possibly more questions than when you started reading it, and was very instrumental in turning me off to the whole movement.
He fails to answer many of the questions that he raises; although many of his answers appear to be answers, if you break them down they often do not answer the question, and when they do they often do not go nearly far enough in answering the question. He tends to rely pretty heavily on anecdotal evidence (which is circular reasoning, considering that he is trying to prove that these experiences are valid); he only deals with Biblical evidence on whether or not the gifts cease in one chapter and the two appendices, and his arguments lack the exegetical depth that I had hoped for in this book and that I have found in the books of his opponents. In the other chapters, he frequently goes off on tangents which weaken his argument and make it a very frusterating book to read.
This book has little if any exegetical depth and many of his his arguments are weak and/or hackneyed. This book is also riddled with logical flaws, and several of his arguments are arrogent or deceptive (such as his rather arrogent, logically flawed chapter saying that the "real reason" that cessationists don't agree with his theology is that they haven't experienced the gifts, or the fact that he quotes the end of Mark 16 a "proof text" for his position and does not mention until the endnotes the significant manuscript problems with the last 8 verses of Mark 16). I think Deere could have done SO much better than he did, especially having a Ph.D., this book could be so much more accurate to the Bible and to the real issues in his position. How anyone can call this a "good" or even halfway decent defense of the charismatic movement is beyond me. Not recommended in the least, unless you are studying logic and looking for some classic examples of informal fallacies. Rated 1 stars only because I could not rate it any lower.
If you will not take my word for it that this book is really, REALLY bad and decide to read it anyway, please at very least read what his opponents actually say. I'd recommend in particular John MacArthur's "Charismatic Chaos." Read them together and compare them and you will quickly see how much Deere distorts his opponents arguments. Deere is frankly irresponsible in his handeling of the Word of God and in his handeling of his opponents' positions and arguments, opting to use many misleading or flawed arguments that were refuted years ago. I highly doubt that this book will persuade anyone of Jack Deere's position who was not already inclined to believe it before reading the book.

great deck of 50 cards..They put ideal messages of our life in a very simple way...
Metaphysical Refresher Cards.......2004-03-23
I was not sure what to expect when I ordered these cards. Since they were called "spirit" cards I thought that perhaps they were to be used for divination- like Tarot cards. In any case, because I have found so much of value in Dr. Weiss's books over the years I decided to try them.
What I found was that this is a deck of inspirational truths. This is the sort of wisdom that one might expect from the master spirits of the between life realm that is described in _Many Lives, Many Masters_ and other of the author's books.
A typical card of the 50 might have a statement such as "I am an immortal spiritual being" on the front, along with a colorful symbolic picture illustrating that subject. Then, on the back, would be a furthur elaboration such as, "You will not die when your body dies. A part of you goes on. You will be reunited with your loved ones because they're also immortal."
I could see using these cards as a period review of core metaphysical truths. I could also see posting individual cards around the home or office for inspiration. Who knows, perhaps they could also be used for divination if you were to concentrate on what you, or a friend, most needed to work on before drawing a card.
In any case, these are all profound lessons that most of us need to be reminded of to put into daily practice.

In times of sickness or adversity, humans tend to seek comfort and healing from a greater power. We know this quest as prayer; universally it has brought solace and healing to many seekers. For those who lack the words, inspiration, or familiarity with prayer, Maggie Oman has assembled a collection of healing prayers for every day of the year. Included are voices as familiar as Duke Ellington ("Every man prays in his own language, and there is no language that God does not understand."), Bobby McFerrin, and May Sarton, along with voices as reverent as the Chinook Indians, Kahlil Gibran, and Mother Teresa.
Book Description
As recent scientific research shows, the simple act of praying can be emotionally, spiritually, and even physically healing. With Prayers for Healing, Maggie Oman invites readers into a healing space that can transform both mind and body. Organized in daybook form, the book focuses on healing in all its dimensions - physical, emotional, interpersonal, social, and environmental. Quotations range from sources such as the Bible, the Tao Te Ching, the Koran, the Torah, and Native American texts, as well as from Deepak Chopra, Rumi, Martin Luther King Jr., Marianne Williamson, and others. Together they create a tapestry of comfort and inspiration for rejuvenation and renewal.

Prayers for Healing - a rich little treasure.......2006-11-11
Not only will the beautiful cover of this collection edited by Maggie Oman inspire you but the contents, a selection for each day of the year, will offer comfort, peace, and hope no matter what might be taking place in your life. There are entries written by an African-Ameican Abolitionists in 1863, one by Mary Baker Eddy in that same century, another by the Dalai Lama in our own day and yet another by Marianne Williamson. The entries are so good I find myself using the book each morning and then turning back to it throughout the day. I highly recommend it!

When times are tough.......2006-02-27
I've loved this book for years. I didn't do it the daily devotional way the book is set up. I read through it and marked the ones that I found especially helpful and comforting. I turned to those when times are tough
I have given a dozen or so of these books to friends and to pastors. I wrote the dates of my favorites in the fly and encouraged them to add their own to the list.
Nearly everyone has told me how helpful the book has been. It's use of prayers from all religions and over hundreds/thousands of yrs helps us to know that our troubles and feelings are not ours alone but have been experienced by others engaged in this experience we call life.
It is really a wonderful treasure when the times are really tough.

I found a 1955 printing of this book in an old waterfront cabin and was struck by the care with which the previous owner had read it. Eve (the name inscribed inside the front cover and then again above the heading for chapter 3) made pencil marks on nearly every paragraph of the book, underlining a phrase, highlighting many passages with strong vertical marks, scratching out some words that she seems to have found superfluous and even x-ing out whole sections that apparently missed their mark with her altogether. Two rusting paper clips isolate several pages, absent any marking at all. Anne Morrow Lindbergh's lyrical words are still relevant and presage so many of the themes of today's most popular books: simplicity, peaceful solitude, caring for the soul, a woman finding her place in society and life. I heard that the woman who had lived in the cabin had actually passed away some time before. Thank you, Eve, for your gift... from the sea.
Book Description
In this inimitable, beloved classic—graceful, lucid and lyrical—Anne Morrow Lindbergh shares her meditations on youth and age; love and marriage; peace, solitude and contentment as she set them down during a brief vacation by the sea. Drawing inspiration from the shells on the shore, Lindbergh’s musings on the shape of a woman’s life bring new understanding to both men and women at any stage of life. A mother of five, an acclaimed writer and a pioneering aviator, Lindbergh casts an unsentimental eye on the trappings of modernity that threaten to overwhelm us: the time-saving gadgets that complicate rather than simplify, the multiple commitments that take us from our families. And by recording her thoughts during a brief escape from everyday demands, she helps readers find a space for contemplation and creativity within their own lives.
With great wisdom and insight Lindbergh describes the shifting shapes of relationships and marriage, presenting a vision of life as it is lived in an enduring and evolving partnership. A groundbreaking, best-selling work when it was originally published in 1955, Gift from the Sea continues to be discovered by new generations of readers. With a new introduction by Lindbergh’s daughter Reeve, this fiftieth-anniversary edition will give those who are revisiting the book and those who are coming upon it for the first time fresh insight into the life of this remarkable woman.
The sea and the beach are elements that have been woven throughout Anne Morrow Lindbergh’s life. She spent her childhood summers with her family on a Maine island. After her marriage to Charles Lindbergh in 1929, she accompanied him on his survey flights around the North Atlantic to launch the first transoceanic airlines. The Lindberghs eventually established a permanent home on the Connecticut coast, where they lived quietly, wrote books and raised their family.
After the children left home for lives of their own, the Lindberghs traveled extensively to Africa and the Pacific for environmental research. For
several years they lived on the island of Maui in Hawaii, where Charles Lindbergh died in 1974.
Anne Morrow Lindbergh spent her final years in her Connecticut home, continuing her writing projects and enjoying visits from her children and grand-children. She died on February 7, 2001, at the age
of ninety-four.
Reeve Lindbergh is the author of many books for both adults and children, including the memoirs Under a Wing and No More Words.

A beautiful book........2007-08-17
I found an original print of this book, and have loved every single page. She just gets it.
Timeless wisdom for all women.......2007-08-07
My grandmother gave this to my mother. When I was in my mid thirties, my mother passed it on to me. Originally written in 1955, Anne Morrow Lindberg has captured a timeless understanding of the stages of life that women experience. Using the metaphor of the shells she finds on the beach one summer, Lindberg provides insight on topics like love, marriage, motherhood, the loss of identity, the subtlety of living and finding meaning in even the smallest events of life. Outstanding! Since I don't have a daughter to whom to pass this on, I only hope I can convince as many women as possible to obtain their own copy--or two: one to underline and keep on their nightstand, another to pass on to their best friend, mother or daughter.
What a beautiful book.......2007-08-05
This short little book makes a great gift to any women in your life. It is my favorite nonfiction book. I highly recommend it.
A beautiful, ageless book of insight.......2007-07-23
My mother had loaned me her 20th anniversary edition of this book and i was completely struck by it. I was thrilled to see Amazon offered it and had a 50th anniversary edition! I ordered four copies for my friends and they were all delighted (they read them on our recent trip to the beach!) The entire book was gorgeous with a silver foil emboss and rich deckled thick paper on the inside.
This book is for all women and is one that could be and should be read every year to reevaluate your stage in life.
I absolutely recommend this book!
Gift from the Sea by Anne Morrow Lindbergh.......2007-07-11
I first listened to this book on CD and was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. It is pretty much just the musings of a wife and mother about her life and relationship with her family. She talks about her need for alone time, simplification of her life, and her marriage. I read it quite a while ago and I still reflect upon insights from the book. I would highly recommend that everyone take a chance to read this book. It's not long, but it is truly a gem.
Book Description
Nexus offers an engaging and insightful journey of an odd mix of people drawn together to a spiritual retreat to overcome personal pain. This book will please readers of spiritual, new age, inspirational, self-help and visionary fiction books. It weaves insights within the narrative like The Celestine Prophecy by James Redfield and The Peaceful Warrior series by Dan Millman.
Starting with a dramatic suicide scene through intimate details of the struggle of Logan Andrews with depression and despair, we are brought on a journey of inner struggle and personal transformation. The reader is transported to a spiritual retreat where the experiences of people at the retreat provide illuminating life lessons. The tone of book creates an authentic journey that is both exploratory and insightful.
The overriding theme in
Nexus is mystical in its nature, narrating experiences of deeper connection felt with one another and all of life. This is poignantly highlighted in key passages, including Logan's empathy for a dying fish in Chapter 6.

Need for Spiritual Change.......2007-07-01
I've read many spiritual books and this one really spoke to me with a story that communicated about both the highs and lows of spiritual life through the touching journey of people at a retreat center. Each person in the story is dealing with their own sorrow from the depression-despair of Logan, Sarah's loss of direction and Muriel's desire to be comforted in her old age. Steven is fixated on his money-making schemes and in order for him to experience growth, he needs to connect to the path of love.
The story speaks of something deeper - a need for spiritual change. It isn't always stated on the surface and you have to dig deeper to recognize that as the central theme of this book. Yet you feel this impulse motivating the communication between teachers and students at the retreat center and the experiences there allude to a deeper bond - to the Nexus that connects us all through our heart where empathy and compassion can grow with experiences of our Oneness. The compassion Logan shows for a dying fish vividly captures this theme. This vision of non-duality is always there beneath the surface though our ego stands in the way of its realization.
The message in this book is beautiful and so I want others to know about it. Through spiritual books like this, we can delve into consciousness transformation and share it with others.
Really Bad. Don't Buy.......2007-06-30
I made the mistake of purchasing this book because it was referenced in a review for The Road (an amazing fiction currently on the best seller list). Now I realize I was probably led into buying it by one of the authors' friends or supporters. The 5 star reviews are bias, to say the least! The dialogue is beyond bad. It is stilted and at times downright silly. I love top quality spiritual writings like "The Power of Now" by E. Tolle or the writings of D. Chopra. It's not that I am spiritually closed, I just know very bad writing when I see it.
This "fiction" is an attempt to flesh out the spiritual teachings of the two authors through poorly crafted, one dimensional characters. I would rather drink flax oil and fast for a week to better my soul than read this kind of stuff. I anticipate receiving some unsupportive votes for this review, and these will likely come from the friends of the authors who have written the 5 star reviews. So be it. I'd rather be honest and save the potential Amazon customer some money!
Thought Provoking.......2007-05-30
NEXUS is an absorbing guide to the dazzling universe of spirituality! Written in the appealing genre of a new age novel I found NEXUS to be a remarkable psychological and spiritual adventure filled with mystery, enchantment, romance, insights, as well as being highly realistic in terms of life's joys and sorrows. I just couldn't put the book down!!!
The diverse assortment of characters were realistic, and the plot was deep, lively and fast paced throughout. NEXUS WORKED AT VERY DEEP LEVELS OF MY MIND TO PENETRATE MY SUBCONSCIOUS AND TO EXPAND AND INSPIRE MY SUPERCONSCIOUS MIND. WHAT AN EXPERIENCE!!!
By carefully reading NEXUS and reflecting on the philosophical insights inherent throughout the book I found that I could tap into my deepest inner centre of being- my inner source of strength, wisdom and compassion...what a discovery!!!
I heard about NEXUS from a friend and that is why I bought the book. I told another friend about NEXUS but she had already just finished reading it and was most impressed.
It seems that people everywhere are suddenly experiencing an intense attraction to NEXUS, one of the most valuable books I've read in a long time.
Another new age novel that I highly recommend is The Saint, the Surfer, and the CEO: A Remarkable Story About Living Your Heart's Desires
Spiritually Uplifting.......2007-05-21
Every once in a while you come across a book that resonates at a deeper soulful level. "Nexus: A Neo Novel" is one of those books that touches you through a spiritual journey of transformation of people in the book. Their transformation is an inner one at the level of their heart and psyche.
For Logan Andrews the transformation requires that he move from negative thoughts and emotions to positive ones. This task is fraught with difficulties, since even at a spiritual retreat intended to help people find the centre of their being called the Nexus, Logan is confronted with his greatest loss as he meets his ex, Sarah.
I really liked the sub-plot with Steven, an arrogant millionaire, who at first is irritating but in time he grows on you and becomes an endearing person. Steven believes that money is the answer to life's problems but has he lost his way?
Even though the writers of "Nexus" have their own unique voice, still this book reminds me of other visionary writers like James Redfield, Carlos Castaneda and Dan Millman. I highly recommend "Nexus" as a deeply moving experience of personal transformation whose message spiritual readers will most appreciate.
Powerful Insights.......2007-04-23
The appeal of "Nexus" lies in an original story that is fast-paced and chock-full of powerful insights. This book is about transformation as an organic process.
The novel is unique as a collaborative effort by two authors who have successfully integrated their writing into an inspiring narrative. This book explores the ups and downs of spiritual life through the journey of people at a spiritual retreat and we can relate their experiences to our own life.
I love this book for its piercing insights and a memorable soulful journey. "Nexus" reminds me of books like "The Celestine Prophecy," "The Life of Pi" and "The Alchemist" - some other books that I've enjoyed reading.

The Prayer That Heals: Praying for Healing in the Family
ASIN: 0060670525 |
Book Description
This practical guide to spiritual healing blends insightful spiritual reflection and the wisdom of hard-won experience in a reliable and inspiring handbook for developing our innate capacity for richer living and richer giving through the healing gifts of the Spirit.
Many years ago, Agnes Sanford was cured of acute depression by a minister who believed in the healing power of prayer. Subsequently, she herself became very active and successful in healing others of mental and physical ailments by drawing upon the same resources for inner well-being. In The Healing Gifts of the Spirit, she shares the simple, practicable ways of self-help she discovered, and gives step-by-step advice on how to help others.
She discusses not only her own cure but also the gift of healing in general and its growing recognition in the contemporary church. She devotes a chapter to the gift of miracles, and another -- especially interesting -- to the gift of tongues. Her exploration of these topics is richly inspiring, offering readers one of the most detailed, informative discussions of the nature, dynamics, and potential rewards of these unique manifestations of God's presence. At the same time, she demonstrates how anyone can draw upon this healing power for good in the world.
As evidence of how these gifts can -- and do -- reveal themselves, the author cites many examples from observation and personal encounters with the healing power of the Spirit.

The deception deepens ..........2007-09-19
This book was first published in 1966, around the time of Mrs Sanford's initial involvement with the Charismatic Movement.
Whereas in `The Healing Light' she betrayed the psychical and New Thought roots of her philosophy much more openly, in this book they are hidden much deeper. It would seem that, because the author's acceptance by Charismatics in the USA, she was more than ever prone to describe her contraBiblical experiences and techniques by the use of Biblical terminology. [See Linda Schiller's review (Oct.17, 1998)!]
However, such things cannot be covered up completely and the underlying "panentheistic" spirituality breaks through in a number of ways. [See my review of "The Healing Light" for more details of her philosophy.]
Invaluable resource in understanding the Spirit.......2007-07-03
I know of no other book that gives as clear an understanding of the more "mysterios" gifts of the spirit. I am not a "carasmatic" but through understanding, this book removes any fear I may have had and in fact installs a longing to experience more of the Spirit.
A most insightful book on charisms and inner healing.......1999-06-21
Agnes Sanford was an Episcopal lay woman, married to an Episcopal priest. She has been active in the Church in the area of healing way before the charismatic renewal set in. In this book she explains how the charisms of 1Cor.12 can be used specifically for inner healing. At the same time she also explains them in such a way that they can be used for spiritual growth as well. Special attention is given to depression. Agnes knows the depth of mental suffering, and knows a way out too! In her defence it must be said that she cannot be connected to New Age or other forms of occultism. in this book, she gives a very usefull presentation of discerning the spirits, and also a useful presentation of deliverance from evil spirits! Agnes stands with both her feet in the christian tradition, and is a great inspiration for christian living, a great teacher, and in my opinion a saint as well. She has effectively changed my life for the better, given me a better understanding of the nature of God, and His salvation. Agnes gives a way to live the sacramental life fully integrated with a charismatic spirituality. Yet non-sacramental churches (like Pentecostals and Evangelicals)can also benefit greatly from this woman of God. I say this as a former Pentecostal, who is now a (charismatic) Roman Catholic!
What a pleasure to support this book!.......1998-10-17
Although not a recent publication, the message is timeless. A Catholic woman discovers healing abilities and helps many people. She reveals these skills wonderfully so one may walk away feeling empowered to practice healing too! Although she poo poos the New Age, we're doing the same thing....I am a REIKI Master and I think Agnes is where I got my first training. Bless her! God's Light cannot be contained in a doctrine! Book Description
Everyone is compulsive to some degree. People may worry too much, work too hard, or overindulge in food or alcohol or drug use. Once a compulsion is admitted, the usual option is to try to control the behavior. But this effort typically ends with the problem returning, or a new one taking its place.
In this book based on three decades of research and teaching, Mary O'Malley has crafted a new approach, with simple exercises and techniques and an inspiring tone. People are compulsive for a reason, she says, and by observing the things they are compulsive about and engaging those compulsions, readers can begin to understand them and change their actions around them. The book's exercises help readers in the engagement process by teaching them to ask the right questions and shows why lasting healing comes from being curious rather than controlling, and self-acceptance comes through forgiveness, not shame.
Customer Reviews:
Life changing perspective.......2006-03-10
This book was recommended to me by a therapist who deals specifically with eating disorders. I started reading the book and immediately became engrossed. O'Malley really does take a revolutionary approach to compulsive behavior by asking us to see our compulsions as friends rather than enemies. After a lifetime of battling my compulsions and hating their control over my life, I am slowly learning to listen to what they are trying to say. Like young children, our compulsions are desperate for our attention.
While I don't really relate to O'Malley's humanistic perspective, I was still able to apply her ideas within the framework of my own spiritual beliefs. No matter what your "world view", I think this book has a great deal to offer those of us who are tired of fighting and losing the battle of our compulsions.
Gentle observation.......2006-02-25
This book truly finds the words for inner turmoil that addictions compulsions create in our lives. The word that comes to my mind is "committment" and the ways we truly avoid engaging in life out of fear of being consumed ourselves. It's a paradigm shift that is meaningful for those that use the mind way too much and escalating self made prisons. If you want or need to understand on a deeper level the spiritual ramifications of self destructive behavior and how to heal them, please go here.
Trusting Oneself.......2005-03-23
If you want to find a compassionate and insightful way of reconnecting and trusting yourself, read this book and take it to heart! Mary O'Malley's invites us to recognize compulsions for what they are: a survival system asking us to pay attention to the here and now.
I invite you to read it, so you too can begin to cultivate the healing power of attentive curiosity!
The best I've found.......2005-03-20
This is the best book on the topic of compulsions that I have ever seen. What impressed me the most were some simple and quick to do exercises that, simply put, have worked every time I've taken the 30 seconds or so to do them. Frankly I'm amazed at the power of this book.
I met the author briefly after a lecture she gave, and I give her an even higher recommendation than the book. She's one of the real ones.
I recommend this book highly.......2005-03-19
We all engage in compulsive behaviors and have compulsive tendencies, whether we are aware of them or not. This amazing book teaches us that compulsions are not simply negative impulses to be controlled. In fact, they are our allies and protectors, helping us cope with life. Mary O'Malley helps us to acknowledge these allies, and to meet them with awareness, love, and acceptance. The concept that we treat ourselves unkindly by trying to control compulsions, and that the act of controlling actually hides the wisdom that compulsions impart, was striking to me. It is in meeting compulsions with awareness, curiosity and acceptance that we open up to what they have to teach us; and in this opening, they reveal to us our deepest needs. With down-to-earth examples, Mary shows us how to recognize and learn from our compulsions, and how to begin meeting our needs at the soul-level. As important as this book is for the individual, its message also applies to society as a whole. What would the world be like if we were able to recognize and learn from our common compulsions, and were able, at last to begin meeting our deepest needs as families, as neighborhoods, as cultures, as countries, as earth-partners? I am thankful for Mary's wisdom, and I hope to see more books from her in the future
