Book Description
The future belongs to a different kind of person with a different kind of mind: artists, inventors, storytellers-creative and holistic "right-brain" thinkers whose abilities mark the fault line between who gets ahead and who doesn't. Drawing on research from around the world, Pink outlines the six fundamentally human abilities that are absolute essentials for professional success and personal fulfillment-and reveals how to master them. A Whole New Mind takes readers to a daring new place, and a provocative and necessary new way of thinking about a future that's already here.

Art Teachers Summer Read.......2007-09-10
Great book to read while I consider my level of burnout. It was interesting and made me want to find out more. I would like to implement some of his straegies with my high school art kids. Thanks.
Faster than you think.......2007-08-28
We are undergoing enormous change and at a pace that seems to be getting faster all the time. This book is an invaluable tool for all of us if we know how to use it properly. He is pointing us in the right direction - now it is up to us to go and do something with the advice he has provided. I loved this book and would strongly recommend it to anyone who wants to have a whole new life.
Excellent tool for personal excellence........2007-08-15
What I love is when a book isn't just conceptual; it's practical. A Whole New Mind fits that bill nicely.
Dan Pink does a great job of not only laying out the essential principles to a well-rounded, complete way to bring your best to work, but he also gives excellent examples and resources to learn from and develop your capabilities.
Well researched, a great read, entertaining, and immensely useful. I highly recommend it.
Thought Provoking.......2007-08-14
What a fascinating take on the age of "Abundance, Asia and Automation." Pink's reflection on what these three realities mean to today's young people and what their future may be has really changed my outlook on my children's future. Among the most important and affirming things that Pink says is that we need "an artist in every room." Amen to that!
A Whole New Mind: Why Right-Brainers Will Rule the Future.......2007-08-12
Thought provoking. Right on in describing the transformation that our global economy is moving towards.

The case was broken in shipment because the CD had not been packed properly/at all. It was shipped in a manila envelope with no cushion or bubble wrap whatsoever.
Not the best out there........2007-09-04
This is about the 5th meditation cd I've purchased. This one was hard to follow and just wasn't as effective as others I have. If you are considering this one, I'd keep looking.
Guided meditations.......2007-03-24
I have been on my own trek of spirituality with the practice of daily meditation. Shakti Gawain's CD is fantastic for those starting out to get the feel of meditation and her calming voice helps guide your thoughts and gets you in motion to experience rest, relaxation and the law of attration. I highly recommend this CD!
Pretty good CD, but not in my opinion not everything some people say it is.......2007-03-20
I found this to be an average CD on visualization techniques. The tone is encouraging and the author's voice is relatively soothing. I have seen in some reviews that this CD has everything you need to meditate. While it is a decent introduction for some specific audiences, it only represents a small subset of techniques, traditions and methods. I know this because I have been studying meditation for years and I give meditation workshops. I also do this type of work with individuals and have a background in psychology too.
If you are looking for an encouraging introduction to visualization, which is one form of meditation, this is a pretty good place to start. It will definitely help you learn to relax and to concentrate. However, there are other CDs and meditation courses out there that are better for this purpose.
Personally, I like Shakti Gawain's book much better than this CD. However, if you are new to this area, this might be just right as a good beginning. Obviously, other people have a different opinion of me, but I pretty much review all the important things in this genre that come out and I can't say I completely share their enthusiasm.
A good beginners introduction to meditation.......2007-03-18
Shaki Gawain's Creative Visualization meditations audio gives examples of about all the types of meditations that one can find out there. There is here a good start for any beginning meditator. This audio is like a brief wind that can carry one further as one finds more and more ways to go deeper into the mystery of the self in one's own meditations. The only possible caution that can be found here is a self interest of a meditation trying to bring about a affirmation of physical manifestation of desire (with its aversion) with her bubble meditation. All and all this audio is great for beginners and everyone who may like to meditate.
Book Description
What exactly is creativity? Why do some people seem to have so much of it? Can their secrets be learned? In this trail-blazing book, internationally renowned business creativity expert Michael Michalko answers these questions and more, bringing life-changing techniques into everyone's reach. Michalko has researched and analyzed over 100 of history's greatest thinkers-from Leonardo da Vinci to Charles Darwin, Thomas Edison to Walt Disney-to show readers how creative people think and how to put their secrets to use. It's no wonder that Entrepreneur magazine lauded CRACKING CREATIVITY as "Required reading for anyone in business." Packed with practical exercises and strategies for stimulating creativity, this original book will literally revolutionize the way you think and open up a world of innovative solutions to challenges that you face every day.
Customer Reviews:
Practical Techniques to Boost Creativity.......2007-06-27
Author Michael Michalko delivers his best performance to date in this book. The book is filled with information on, and techniques for using, our creative processes. Many of the techniques are easy to learn, requiring only a little bit of practice to get used to them. Most of the book centers around: helping an individual generate many possible ideas about something, which will be critically evaluated at a later time; visualizing the problem and potential solutions; seeing from another's perspective, even the problem's in one case (quite effective sometimes); collaboration and creativity. This book already helped me deliver a 5 star essay on a very controversial subject. I followed its advice, producing as many ideas as possible in a short time, without rejecting any at first. Also, visualizing the data, as recommended, formed the basis for my later outline, which was complete enough that a rough draft was no work at all. So, for me, buying this book paid off already. I think anyone buying this will read it for a few minutes and then recognize they have a winner in their hands.
I told you so.......2006-10-28
This book woke me up from my indifference toward creative thinking. My colleague at work recommended the book, so I bought it and read it expecting nothing much. I assumed creativity was something you were or were not. I can't believe how creative I've become since reading this book. This book has literally changed the way I the way I think and the way I look at the world. When I told my colleague about how I've changed, all he said was "I told you so."
Superb!!!.......2006-10-20
This book has changed the way I look at the world and the way I think. I've gifted copies to all my friends and relatives.
Together with 'Thinkertoys'...dynamic duo...consider them among the best in the genre!.......2006-07-17
The first time I encountered 'Thinkertoys' it was actually the first edition released during the early 90's, when it was also about the time I began to explore the various options with regard to my mid-life transition. In fact, I had initially spotted an interesting review in the Entrepreneur magazine.
I managed to trace the publisher & had immediately ordered the first 100 copies for my debut bookstore. It became the best seller in my store for many years. Then came 'Cracking Creativity' a few years later as well as the accompanying brainstorming card deck, Thinkpak, to 'Thinkertoys'.
What impressed me most is not so much the creativity tools outlined in both books. In fact, the most productive learning experiences I got out of both books are a few very important things, which I would like to share with readers.
Let's take a look at Thinkertoys. In the Introduction, the author started off with a visual puzzle: 'Can you identify the figure below?'
Only by shifting your focus, you can then see the hidden word within the figure.
In the author's own words, "...by changing your perspectives, you can expand your possibilities..."
Let's move to 'Cracking Creativity'. In the Introduction, the author introduced a simple arithmetic equation: What is half of thirteen?
The subsequent passages as outlined in Part I: Seeing What No One else in Seeing, & Strategy I: Knowing How to See, by the author revealed the secrets to getting many possible answers (or perspectives) to the above equation.
No creativity tool outlined in the above two books (or elsewhere in the world, for that matter) can help you to become more creative until you fully understand - & appreciate - what the author is trying to drive home in his two books.
In a nut shell, it basically boils down to one important thing: Use - & enhance - your power of vision! or power of observation!
The author may not be the first person to postulate this crucial aspect of creativity.
I would consider Leonardo da Vinci to be the first person to have understood & practised it religiously. He said, among a few other things, LEARN TO SEE THE WORLD. In fact, he put a lot of emphasis on using your senses, especially your sense of sight.
Edward de Bono had also broached this valuable concept in his groundbreaking series of lateral thinking books, starting with 'Mechanism of Mind' in the 70's.
I have always believed that you can't do things differently until you can see things differently.
Learning to see the world anew & from different perspectives is imperative if one wants to be more creative.
According to de Bono, creativity starts at the perceptual stage of thinking. He terms it, First Order Thinking. He added very beautifully: "This is where our perceptions & concepts are formed, & this is where they have to be changed. Most of the mistakes in thinking are inadequacies of perception rather than mistakes of logic."
The creativity tools, whether they are from the author's books or elsewhere, will then automaticlaly fall into place & make more sense when you have first exercised your power of vision or observation.
Using any tool is a piece of cake, but changing one's perception - & maintaining fluidity of perception as well as having multiple perceptions - takes concerted efforts.
It is also important to take note that when things (or tactics) don't seem to work out as planned, always remember to check out your observations of the world first. Simply ask:
- what do you CHOOSE to see?
- where do you DIRECT your attention?
The second most productive learning experience I got from the above two books is realising that all thoughts are simply feats of association &/or juxtapositions - & the crux of creativity (in fact, also learning) are making associations &/or juxtapositions. [Tom Peters, in his wonderful book, Liberation Management, drives home with this insightful nugget: "The essence of creation - in all endeavours - is chance connections between ideas and facts that are previously segregated. Entrepreneurship is the direct by-product of chance, of convoluted connections among ideas, needs and people." According to Leonardo da vinci, everything is connected to everything else. My question: CAN YOU SEE IT?] The creativity tools outlined by the author are specifically designed for this purpose.
The third most productive learning experience for me is understanding the differential between productive & reproductive thinking. To paraphrase the author: "...in productive thinking, one generates as many alternative approaches as one can, considering the least as well as the most likely approaches...in contrast, reproductive thinking fosters rigidity of thought..." More relevant aspects about the significance of & more specific strategies to develop productive thinking are excellently covered by the author in 'Cracking Creativity'.
To end this review, & in the light of what I have written, I would consider the author's two books as the dynamic duo...to be among the best in the genre!
A classic.......2006-06-03
I've read over 30 books on the subject of creativity, and this one stands out as one of the best. It contains some fantastic ideas and exercises for training creativity. Teachers and trainers who are interested in developing student creativity should get this book.

Customer Reviews:
FINALLY !!!.......2007-08-20
I've been looking for a book like this one for over 5 years, and I finally found it. I've believed for a long time that the same ability that allows us to heal ourselves of physical ailments without use of medicine or other physical treatments must also make it possible to "heal" our financial lives. I've found many self-help books that are aimed at helping us improve our financial lives, but they're all based in and limited to conventional financial techniques. I've read dozens of books on "how to improve your life using spiritual techniques" ... and while many of them get into considerable depth on exactly how to use such techniques to heal relationships, physical problems, etc., none of them has ever devoted more than a brief chapter or two on what's really required to use spiritual power to heal our financial lives. I was beginning to think that such a book had never been written.
Then, a couple of weeks ago, I got past some of my own emotional baggage about money. Those of us who consider ourselves "spiritual" often have issues with having, saving, investing and just enjoying money. Many of us were taught that the love of money is the root of all evil. Well, once I saw and really let go of my own issues about wealth and allowed myself to see that it's just another form of benefit we're meant to enjoy in this life ... the next DAY ... this book crossed my path. And it's EXACTLY the book I knew somehow in my heart HAD to exist.
In short, this book is about how to use the same spiritual power many of us have used to reshape other parts of our lives (health, relationships, vocations, lifestyle) to completely transform our financial lives and our general experience of abundance and prosperity. Far from being a brief or vague treatment of the topic, the authors take us step by step through the mental and emotional work we need to do to tap into our spiritual ability to draw to us the wonderful financial experiences we want in our lives. As my partner and I read this book together, we kept stopping to say to each other "this is just EXACTLY what we've been looking for."
The power of Love ... our spiritual power to create all and only that which benefits us and those around us ... can be used to create the wealth and prosperity we long for. As we read the chapters of this book that walked us through the "how to" of creating wealth, it mirrored our own instincts about the subject so perfectly, it was as if the book had been written for us. Written in 1988, on one level, I can't imagine how I never saw this book before. But I know that my own issues about actually EXPERIENCING ... HAVING ... ENJOYING money fully ... kept me from finding it. As soon as I was ready, POOF ... the book appeared in my life.
What does this book teach, in general terms? #1 - That as a spiritual being, you have the ability to create unlimited benefit in your life ... and that includes financial benefit. #2 - that the way to create that benefit is not through hard work, worry, greed or worldly risk. #3 - That the path to creating completely beneficial wealth ... wealth not only in terms of money but also in terms of free time, spending your time doing what you enjoy most and what benefits those around you most ... in ALL forms ... lies in taking personal responsiblity for the thoughts and feelings you have within yourself about prosperity ... and activing taking steps to change those thoughts and feelings so that you use your spiritual creative power to bring into your life the wealth you want. #4 - That it's not only POSSIBLE to experience the abundance you want while doing with your life what you really want to do most ... doing what you love most is essential to opening yourself to the abundance you have the power to draw into your life.
Easy to read, logically put together, the authors do a wonderful job of showing us exactly what we need to do to learn to use our spiritual power ... the miraculous creative power of love ... to experience total financial healing. They present a book in some ways similar to Louise Hay's books on healing your body and life through the use of the mind and heart. But where "Heal Your Body" focuses on using love and the power of our thoughts and feelings to take responsibility for transforming our physical health, this book does something similar in the real of finances, and it does a wonderful job.
I just purchased and read this book in the past few days ... I'll keep you posted on the real world results as they develop. But if my experience using this book is anything like my experience using the writings of Louise Hay, our financial challenges should soon be as much a thing of the past as are my old ulcer, knee problems, hyper-acidity, chronic head and neck aches, tendonitis and coutless other problems that used to plague me that are now completely gone.
Lives up to its Title.......2007-01-25
This is one of my favorite books of all time. I've read many books on manifesting, magnetising, prosperity, spirituality - and this book incorporates all four in a very cohesive way that makes sense.
Whereas some books lean towards more on the "spiritual side of abundance" rather than the "money aspect" this book doesn't lose its main subject "money" which I found very satisfying. Also, some authors focus mainly on "deblocking" and "resolving money-related-issues and feelings" which I personally believe only gets you to the "zero state" (you've just gotten rid of a problem, but you haven't become "much richer"). This book has exercises that helps you to magnetize clients, a number of customers, and a sum of money which I found very helpful.
Bottomline is that the book delivers what the title suggests.
I have several books by Sanaya Roman, and the other books are focused more on spiritual aspects, but this one really does a neat job of talking about money, about creating money.
In terms of "immediate results" this book comes second to another book I have written by Babaji (sp?) but I still find myself reaching for this book over and over again, especially when I am in my "entrepreneur mode" of thinking.
Hope some of this helps. Namaste.
a real gem.......2007-01-25
Ive had this book for many years, and keep going back to it. There are exercises in the book to help you make the aspirations concrete by writing it out in addition to the visualizations.
Whenever I have a money issue, I randomly pick a page and see what message it has for me at this point in time. Unlike some other new age postive thinking books, the downside of things is not ignored. This is well rounded inspiration that shows you how to deal with the kinks as well.
The author even says that you must get practical knowledge to compliment the metaphysical awareness. From my point of view, you must have both, for there to be a balance. It is whole brain thinking.
Stop Delaying Your Good Once and For All.......2006-09-26
For years I struggled against two things that I thought (and felt) were in total opposistion with each other; God and money. I really felt that the two were exclusive of each other. I was a "good" Christian. I thought more about Jesus than I thought about money. But I also thought that if Jesus ever did return to Earth I was gonna saddle him with some of the bills I had incurred waiting for his butt.
Sorry to sound so irreverent...actually, I'm not.
Now that I have purged the "label" of Christian from my belief system and consider myself a Spiritual Being living in a Spiritual Universe, I really get what Jesus was really trying to teach while here upon this Earth. He was trying to get us to remember that God is our Source for every good thing and everything is good because everything is a manifestation of Spirit.
I can feel some of you growing a little irritated and you are right, it is irritating. Truth is often very irritating because it makes us question those beliefs that we have not only believed, but worshipped. I made a god out of Lack. I made a god out of debt. I made a god out of never having enough. I had author-ity issues...in other words, I thought I had created my life.
I didn't create my life...Spirit did...Spirit does...Spirit will always be creating and recreating my life and God has put every good thing within me. We all come "factory equipped" with abundance, prosperity, and plenty.
So, what the hell went wrong? We started believing more in lack than in supply. We believed more in a future hell than a Heaven of now. We believed that somehow God wanted us to be poor, miserable, and unhappy during our stay upon this Earth because afterall, if we accept our sufferings now, our real treasure will be waiting for us up in some future realm.
Nonsense.
Jesus said, "Hey, dudes, lookin within...Heaven is now...you're looking in the wrong spot. You are looking outside of yourselves for God and God is always right where you are. You are breathing God in...You are breathing God out....you're a manifestation of God...Heaven isn't a place...Heaven is you..."
Talk about pushing the freaky buttons. We gotta put this cat on a cross. He's speaking blasphemies and heresies and all sorts of stuff that's hitting too close to home. So they killed Jesus. Murdered him. Watched his blood flow to the ground.
You can kill the messenger, but you can't kill the message.
The message is that life is meant to be a joyous experience. Stop idolizing your lack. Stop embracing your limitations. Stop catering to fear. Take the focus off of "not enough" and put the focus on the truth, "There is always more than enough. Abundance flows to me now. I easily and effortlessly attracting more and more and more good into my life now. God is my Infinite Source of every good thing. I am blessed. I am a blessing. My life is rich, full, happy, and prosperous."
This book will remind you that you are a magnet and that you are always attracting things into your life. We can't help it, that's the way we were created. But what are we attracting? That's the real question. If you have money issues...which 99.9% of us do in some way, get this book and devour the thing. Don't sit there and intellectualize the whole thing. Get it deep into the marrow of your bones that you truly deserve to be rich and if you are rich you deserve to be even richer. There is more than enough for everyone here to be rich, prosperous, and plentiful.
It is time for the dis-ease of poverty to be wiped out forever.
Just think if Jesus did come back and you were dressed in rags and driving a 1973 Nova. He'd say, "Dude, didn't you listen to me? C'mon, man...I was hoping you'd take me to dinner tonight. I didn't wait around for 2,000 years to eat a sandwich in the park with a person that looks like a bum."
We are all children of the universe. It is time to act like we are...talk like we are...dress like we are...and FEEL THAT WE ARE!
Peace and Blessings, children.
IT'S ALL MANIFESTATION....THE SECRET..........2006-07-25
I bought so many book on how to make money and prosperity...but this is one of the best...it helped me to shift the energy and unlock the body energy...nonetheless is FANTASTIC when it explain how to become a MAGNET...AWESOME!!!

Praise for Idea Mapping
"Nast's work in Idea Mapping enables those with creative minds to clearly lay out their thinking process and those who are more process-minded to become creative. If your organization is looking for a pragmatic, step-by-step guide to idea mapping, this is it."
--Chris Brown, Executive Vice President, DTE Energy Resources
"I have used idea maps for thirty years and have taught MBA students, employees, and my children how to harness their power. I strongly recommend this book and believe you will feel it to be one of the best investments you have ever made in your own growth."
--Stephen C. Lundin, coauthor, FISH!
"This is a book that everyone should read. It's an interactive, thought-provoking book about the brain and learning that will expand your mind. Nast, an accomplished and well-respected instructor, has guided me into a new realm of learning experiences and possibilities. I'm sure you will feel the same upon reading her insightful work."
--Simon Tai, CEO, Buzan Centre Taiwan and S&J Media Intergration Co. Ltd., Host of News Discovery on NEWS 98 Taiwan
"Nast shows you a revolutionary method to capture your thinking processes. Don't underestimate the simplicity of idea mapping because therein lies its genius."
--Scott Hagwood, four-time USA Memory Champion, author, Memory Power
"The ability to visually capture and organize thoughts and ideas has enabled millions of people around the world to do their work with greater creativity and productivity, run their businesses more strategically, and manage complex projects more efficiently--even map out a sales process or new product roll-out. Nast's very practical, readable book will get you quickly up to speed on one of the simplest but most powerful ways to organize your ideas, your work, and yourself."
--Mike Jetter, cofounder and CTO, Mindjet Corporation, coauthor, The Cancer Code
"The principles Nast writes about in Idea Mapping have become a staple for me over the past fourteen years. I was turned onto the concept of idea mapping in 1992 and have been a student and practitioner ever since. This has absolutely transformed the way I learn, design learning, and prepare for public speaking. I have never been more confident in my recall, knowing the content is nicely tucked away in my brain as it was designed to be. Get ready for a life-changing experience for yourself and those you influence."
--Will Flora, Senior Manager, Chick-Fil-A University, Atlanta, GA

1 Map Vs. 50 Pages... I'll take 1 Visually Appealing Map.......2007-08-22
I've been impressed by Jamie Nast and her philosophy of Idea Mapping. I especially like the concept that you can put a complex idea on one page, and Jamie is running with it. I don't know about you, but I'd rather see a business plan on one gorgeous map than 50 droning pages. I'm also happy that Jamie considers software a legitimate venue for mapping (I especially like MindManager, which Jamie endorses at her website). A resource idea mappers at all levels need to checkout.
Should be common knowledge for learners and workers........2007-07-30
Giving the book five stars because I didn't already know everything the book tells you, but feel like I should have. A pretty light read and, I would say, on a 6th grade reading level, but all of the concepts in the book should have been explained to me by teachers in my secondary education.
I have to assimilate volumes of information, and mapping the info out in the manner taught by this book is the perfect way to do it. This use of the technique is only one of the applications described in the book.

This is a most accessible book. Almost by stealth, it introduces people to a very powerful personal and business tool. Idea mapping can help put the fun and creativity back into work - and open your mind to a technique to access ideas you didn't know you had.
The book takes an evolutionary approach to teaching mapping. Concepts and rules are introduced, examples given and lessons reinforced - then on to the next concept. Happily it's in plain English, with no business consultant-speak, and is easy to read and comprehend. Rules are introduced at the beginning to help the novice get started - later on these are overturned as experts are encouraged to be flexible and take account of the situations they are in and the purpose of their maps.
The focus is very much on business applications of the tool. Guidance is given on how to approach creativity, strategy definition, planning, preparation for presentations, planning and drafting articles and papers, organising your schedule and even 1-1 meetings with staff.
One of the most powerful applications of idea mapping is in learning and memorising information, books and manuals - whether simply to help retain more for day-day application or for passing professional exams or achieving certification. Maps provide visual clues to aid memory and readers are encouraged to embelish their maps with colour and images to enhance retention and recall.
What really makes the difference here is the inclusion of many real life examples. These are not dusty academic references but actual maps produced by real people to help them achieve more in real life business situations. More examples can be found on the author's website - extending the value of the book.
One of the recurring themes throughout is to consider the purpose of a map before you start it. Often maps will be fast and furious scribbles by way of an instant brainstorm, such as last minute preparation for an imminent meeting. At other times they will be developed with care, full of colour and images, as an aid to learning and recall.
Jamie Nast also introduces us to situations where maps need to be refined, developed and shared - and for which mapping software is a must. Advice is given on how to choose your software, the benefits and concerns and when and how to use.
Elsewhere in the book Jamie also explains how teams can use mapping collaboratively. A software tool is invaluable for such work. As a professional facilitator, I use software idea mapping with my groups. The map is projected onto a wall and ideas are captured, reviewed, restructured and so on interactively until the group are happy. Because the map is captured electronically it can be distributed immediately after the session as a map or exported into a text file, presentation or project plan.
Jamie also gives us a tool to help with group brainstorming. If you have caught the increasing number of articles on 'why brainstorming does not work', you'll know that getting every person to shout out every idea they have is unrealistic. Idea mapping offers a perfect solution where the brainstorm begins with individuals getting their thoughts down on paper before sharing with the group.
As mentioned earlier, idea mapping puts mind mapping firmly in the realm of business. In addition to being a tool to help organisations and teams, it is also a personal tool which managers use to identify and review their personal goals, manage their schedules and prepare their individual plans and presentations. Many of us are becoming increasingly aware of the inter-relationship between work and the rest of our lives (Doh!). There are examples given in the book of how people have assessed their careers and life goals using these techniques.
This book offers real encouragement to people to try the technique and access the creativity and fun they could experience in even the crustiest of workplaces. It's easy to learn following Jamie's well thought out step-by-step guide. Inspiration is offered by the many real life examples included - all of which can be viewed in colour on Jamie's web site. I have come across people at work who have seen mind mapping as something to be used by creative, clever people. You don't have to be clever to use idea mapping but you might become so if you do.
Very little substance.......2007-04-29
This book is yet another example of 15 pages worth of substance spread over 240 pages of fluff. A person would be much better served downloading the trial version of "Mindmanager" software and just following the included tutorial. It will teach you everything this book has to offer in a fraction of the time.
A Very Helpful Book.......2007-02-15
I love this book. It has helped me with my to do lists, teaching classes, taking notes on lectures and with helping my children to study. In my teaching; it has allowed me to keep my notes on one page and then to see the transitions more clearly. When questions are asked I can quickly find my place and give precise answers without flipping through pages of notes. My oldest daughter was struggling with science, but with idea mapping techniques she is able to use her creativeness to map out her study notes and has had more success with her testing. When taking notes on a lecture, I find that I can remember the speaker's points much better than the traditional outline method because it's mapped out in pictures and words.
I really enjoyed the book because the author has the reader participate in each chapter, so by the end of the book you are able to make good idea maps and rarely have to review the book.
What I have learned is a life enhancing skill that I use at work (fleshing out new projects or by doing my performance reviews)and my personal life (helping my children study, teaching, studying my Bible or by mapping "to do" lists).
The book is great; if you participate you will learn. I use idea mapping every day and I believe I am even more creative because of it.
Although I do not use the software suggested in the book, one day I may give it a try when drawing my own idea maps becomes a little tiring or less useful. But that may be well into the future because for now I'm having the best time drawing them out myself.

My favorite on manifesting and visualization !!!.......2007-04-18
I have read a lot of books in the past year on creative visualization and manifesting your desires and books on witchcraft and magick. This is MY PERSONAL FAVORITE among all these becasue it goes beyond visualization- talks about how to put energy into the picture and how to realease it and also gives a few special techniques. AND more. There is no fluff - the book doesn't go on for chapters saying nothing as a filler, every chapter is informative and every page-just like the Sanaya Roman books !
I am going to buy more Denning Phiillips books, but they do not have that good reviews, so we'll see how those compare !

Practical Guide to Creative Visualization.......2005-09-25
Frankly, this book was purchased as a gift to a friends and was promptly forwarded on. I have yet to hear anything positive or negative from her regarding this publication.
I gave it a 5 since I have other books by the same authors and have found them informative.

Life Changing.......2005-04-21
Creative Visualization has changed my life. I used to be so negative & miserable.
Now when I have a problem - I do my visualizations & meditations.
This book & Shakti Gawain's are wonderful - my life has changed for the better!!
This is the best book on Creative Visualization I've read..........2004-02-25
This is the best book on Creative Visualization I've read, I only review books I think are 5-starworthy and this is one of them. I genuinely urge you to buy this. Shakti Gawain's is good, very good in fact, but what makes this great is that it takes a more practical instead of a cosmic foo-foo approach, and Ms. Gawain borrows from Scientology with it's being, doing, having triangle -- Denning and Phillps (or should I say, the Barcynskis', Denning and Phillips are their pen-names) take a wholly original approach to the material. And although the part about singing and chanting/mantraining about your goal may seem silly at first to the normal reader. It's very effective. And "The Star Technique" is an amazing thing... It gets you what you want or something better. But all that isn't the end-all be all of the story with this book's incredible methods. Agghhh.. Just read and apply it. Or to put it quite colloquially: Hoooowheee -- that is a spicey' meatballah!
Captain Josh.

The one to get. Goes nicely with Condensed Chaos by Phil Hine.
Practical Guide offers highly insightful, esoteric - but accessible - methods of visualizing your goals and making them happen.
Draws from ancient wisdom with a modern, immensely effective spin.
Very very good!
Book Description
A revolutionary program for creating anything, from a functional kitchen to a computer program, to a work of art, Robert Fritz demonstrates that any of us has the innate power to create. Discover the steps of creating; the importance of creating what you truly love, how to focus on the creative process to move from where you are to where you want to be, and much more.
Customer Reviews:
May be your last self-help book.......2007-01-16
The basic message of this book is to create a vision and then just "do it." You may have read books with a similar message - but you're still here, looking for self-help books. Why is this book different? Because it shows you the pitfalls - the seemingly benign behaviors that get in the way of creating the life you want.
I'll bet you find in this book what has been tripping you up - like how you've been responding/reacting to circumstances, making decisions from fear or avoidance or denying what is real. And when you see them for what they are, you'll feel that initial rush of germination - the realization that you can create your life. From that point, you'll follow the creative cycle that Fritz describes to make that vision real - for good.
Becoming the creative force in your life.......2006-09-06
I love this book especially the information on how we are conditioned to choose from a reactive unconscious posture and how to choose consciously. I have also found the explanation of structural tension to be invaluable. These 2 understandings will change your life!
A fascinating book--I keep going back to it.......2006-07-11
This book is the most fascinating explanation of the creative process I've ever come across. I love the way Fritz uses examples from a number of disciplines--music, science, mathematics, business. I use his techniques all the time to fruitful results. In fact, I think it's one of the most fundamental of self-help books, as he gets to the foundation of success or failure in personal change--the underlying structures one has in place. I find myself going back to it again and again and finding new insights.
How to create anything you desire.......2006-04-30
The Path of Least Resistance presents us with as close to an "owner's manual" for being human of anything I have read. It systematically teaches you how to use your brain and central nervous system to create the results which most truly matter to you. I (Al) have used the principles explained by Fritz for the past fifteen years or so with considerable success. The process is so incredibly simple, you may be tempted to dismiss it. But just try it and you can change your life dramatically.
Path of least Resistance.......2006-01-30
I was reading the opinions of the other people before I bought this book, but after reading it myself I qustion myself why did I buy it? I'm reading many selfhelp books lately, but I got nothing out of this one, very hard to read.

Book Description
This intriguing book shows how freedom from both economic and emotional insecurity can be achieved in practical, creative, and noncompetitive ways. The approach outlined in this book enables us to find our proper place in the cosmic scheme and to create for ourselves a harmonious environment in which to grow in wealth, wisdom, and happiness.

Financial Freedom obtainable.......2007-08-24
It's hard to believe that this book was written in 1910! We are all seeking happiness, illumination, security and truth. This book reveals some of the gifts of life for which we are searching. The author is greatly illumined and brings us the gifts of light through this book and his other books. EXCELLENT!!
Science of Getting Rich.......2007-03-19
This book is the retitled, Science of Getting Rich, by the same author. Is this the secret? Some good principles along with some bones. Like a good filet of fish, partake of the good, spit out the bones. I don't ask the universe, I ask the God of the Universe.
This Book Is Good If You Want To Learn The Technique Of Visualization........2006-09-25
I must partly agree with A Reader's June 18, 2000 review. The issue that I too have with some of these books, including the movie, The Secret, is that they focus on material wealth. That which is materialistic is temporary and therefor can never be a permanent source of lasting happiness. Lasting peace comes from within and is eternal. When we die, we take nothing with us, not even our bodies. Alot of these types of teachings drive people further into attachment to things, people, and places, which causes continued suffering. Think about it, if there is something that you want and you let go of needing to have it, and you become detached from needing it and detached from the certain outcome of attaining it, you feel lighter inside. You feel at ease, less needy, less desperate, and less controling. Ahhhh (breathes deeply), that's the point.
However, human beings do live on this physical plane. And they do need to learn the basics of being the creators that they are. However, as good as I think this book is, I think it is misleading. All it teaches is the tool of visualization which is invaluable in itself, but it is not always the solidary road to financial success. This is no doubt a good read, but the subject does need to be taken further by those who genuinely seek the path. Read the book, utilize the tools, but beware of attachment. Attachment makes the world miserable.
Warning!.......2005-01-07
This is a really great book and I highly recommend it, but be warned that this is the same book as The Science of Getting Rich. I bought this thinking that I was getting a different book by the author since I was so impressed with the Science of Getting Rich. I didn't mind at all getting a paperback version of this classic which I had previously read in ebook form, so I kept it. Highly recommended along with Napoleon Hills The Think and Grow Rich Action Pack.

Book Description
Sparked by her long search for inspiration in her life and work, Gail McMeekin has worked closely with some of today's most highly creative women for her one-of-a-kind guide to maximizing creative energy. "For many women," she writes, "breaking free of our societal and psychological chains is a prerequisite to truly creating a life that expresses our genuineness and uniqueness."
The dynamic women sharing their secrets for the first time include Sarah Ban Breathnach, who channeled her creativity into the book she was "born to write" (the best-selling Simple Abundance); interior designer Chris Madden; and software tycoon Brenda Laurel. From interviews and conversations, McMeekin distilled the common themes in these innovators' lives and work into practices any woman can use.
Customer Reviews:
Wonderful book.......2004-09-28
This is a wonderful book for any person struggling with career decisions. McMeekin provides the tools for rediscovering one's inner needs in a simple step-by-step manner. Her vignettes provided real life situations that anyone in that position can identify with. McMeekin guides you to your own true path. The book was truly an inspiration!
Incredible!.......2004-09-27
McMeekin's book is a must for all who feel frustrated and stuck in their career. She takes you step by step through a process that helps you define your needs, your desires, and tap into your own creativity...you. Eight women read it as part of our book club and more than half of us are expanding our paths as a result. Incredible!
An Inspiration.......2004-09-27
I've read many self help books but this one was different. McMeekin is an inspiration for all who feel locked into a path that doesn't fulfill. I highly recommend this book. It has truly changed my life and my priorities.
Who ever knew it could be so painless?.......2004-09-26
McMeekin's book is fabulous! Keeping a journal as McMeekin suggested does wonders as do her "self discovery exercises." Reading my journal over, I could no longer deny myself the opportunity to try to make a go of my artwork. And the funny thing is, I can now admit to the world, "I am good at it." The book provides the impetus to follow your heart - something we all need to think more about doing.
Attaining Freedom.......2004-09-26
McMeekin's book was an excellent read. It gave me a perspective on my life and helped put me back on the right path. I have recently begun to experiment with some of her self examination exercises and have begun to find the real me. In her book, McMeekin points the way to letting go of all the things we think we "should" do and helps us find what we truly want to do to be happy. I felt a real sense of empowerment after reading it. I would highly recommend this book to others who may be floundering as I have been.

Adapting their techniques for fostering creativity as a means to spiritual fulfillment for the workplace, the authors of The Artist's Way at Work have shown that people can thrive at their jobs when they take time to nurture their spirit and listen to their thoughts. The book features psychological guidance, anecdotes, and exercises to assist the reader in sorting out the multitude of happenings, commitments, and choices in one's life. Again, these authors of the enormously successful The Artist's Way recommend their fundamental technique of "morning pages"--a kind of free-form journaling--to unravel thoughts and feelings, focus energy, and direct action. The beautiful surprise of this deceivingly simple exercise is that it actually works! It's making the time to do morning pages that's the real battle. But, if you, like so many others, feel swept up by the tidal wave of our fast-paced, noisy culture, then the authors' slow and steady steps toward reclaiming the spiritual self are invaluable. Some of the suggestions and exercises are a bit out of touch with the complex, and often emotionally-charged, political maneuverings of corporate culture, but the aim of cultivating an individual's ingenuity and resourcefulness is effective and expertly structured. Overall, the authors' philosophy boils down to change that begins with a constantly emerging self. With this book's help, you'll not only find how that new self spawns clarity and grace, but how widely their effects can reverberate throughout the workplace. --Karen Karleski
Book Description
After the publication of the bestselling book The Artists' Way, Julia Cameron and Mark Bryan, co-creators of the country's most successful course on creativity, were often told that their techniques helped people achieve their business goals. This spurred them to refine the methods to help people perform more creatively and effectively at work. The program is revealed in The Artists' Way at Work: a twelve-week encounter with your own ingenuity, struggles, strengths and dreams -- as well as the political guidance to enable you to get things done.
Through powerful self-assessment exercises with intriguing titles such as "Power Inside vs. Power Outside," "Developing Creative Continuity," and "Finding Your Truth," readers learn to release their creative spirit at work and tap reserves of energy, vision, and passion. The Artists' Way at Work will help you excel in your job, launch the business of your dreams, or find the career you love. Best of all, you will learn to "live in the paradox" -- to develop a personal philosophy of excellence that sustains you, whatever the future holds.
The processes in this book are rooted in cutting-edge principles of human development, organizational behavior, and the arts. They have been rigorously tested among business audiences and will unleash a degree of satisfaction at work (and in life) you may never have believed possible. For every one of us who works, The Artists' Way at Work reveals a completely new way to thrive.

These books were ordered to be used in a weekly group discussion. The response was well received.
Fair Warning, Preview the Book.......2006-03-30
Reading the book for a masters level creativity class so I started out a skeptic. While much of the reading in the class has turned out to be very interesting, this book just hasn't struck any chords for me.
Some of the poeple in the class seem to appreciate it so it gets an extra star... but I'd suggest reading some of it before picking it up. If it works for ya, go for it. Otherwise, be cautious.
working artist.......2005-07-25
This is the second Julia Cameron book I have read. It is very much like Artist's Way except it is for the artist in the work place. All of Cameron's books talk about the artist within but it is for those who are looking for self. Self is what you are going to find. It is getting rid of what is unimportant and focusing in on the important making a complete and happier person. I am not quite done with this book but have devoured it and shared it as I did with her first book.
Artists can be thriving (not starving) artists.......2005-03-21
After completing the self-study program with Julia Cameron's Artist's Way ... this work-oriented book helps artistic and creative souls find a way to breath life and express their creative fire on the job. Cameron's analogy of the dragon is a dep metaphor to the fears that stop us from being our true selves. Instead of bottling up all the intense energy ... Riding The Dragon ... draws out our intensity with constructive excercies, wisdom, and a proper channel to achieve positive results. Cameron is one of the best informal writing guides for all of us with a voice were excavating.
