5 out of 5 stars Great book.......2007-01-09

This is a great book for Grandmothers. I gave it as a gift and the lady just adored it. I have one, too. I will always cherish my book.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing!!!.......2006-07-18

I had purchased this book a couple of years ago for my grandmothers. I was so eager to learn about our family history. I am now 28 and one of my grandmothers health is fading fast. I just went to visit her over the weekend and she gave it back to me completed. I have never read a book that meant so much to me. It has stories of her growing up and my great grandparents, which I never knew. Stories of how she and my grandfather met to stories about my mother and myself as a child. She obviously took the time (2 years) to put her thought into this book. It is something that I will cherish for years. I recommend this to anyone that is a grandparent or even makes a great gift from a grandchild.

5 out of 5 stars Grandmother's Memories: To Her Grandchild(A Journal of Faith and Love).......2006-07-09

I bought this book for my first grandchild and when I received it I knew that I needed more for future grandchildren so I ordered 8 more. It is a beautiful book and since I have lost both my parents this will be a great way for me to tell my grandchildren about their great grandparents. I recommended this book to a friend who also is going to be a new grandmother and she bought one for her new grandchild. You have made it affordable to buy and it is a wonderful gift for a new grandparent.

5 out of 5 stars GREAT SERIES - A living history.......2006-06-02

This is a great series. My wife and I have completed the Mother and Father books and we have provided the grandparent books to each respectively. Each book in the series provides you with a number of topic headings covering all facets of your life. You fill out your history in your own words. What a great thing to give your child/grandchild. I don't typically take the time to review books. However, this series was worth the time. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

4 out of 5 stars Great gift for Mother's day!.......2006-02-25

Great book, but be prepared for a lot of religious themes! I purchased two for both sets of Grandmas. They LOVED it! I can't wait to get them back to give to my daughter when she's older.

5 out of 5 stars Aw i love this book~!.......2006-03-13

this book was sooooo sweet. It is definatley my new favorite book. I love how kind and gently the book is written. I used to like science fiction but often found it conflicting with my beliefs. and now i found Christian Fiction and i found this book and i loved it. I read it in about 5 hours. i love this book!!! i can't wait to read more done by Lori Wick. I loved this book...i can't say it enough...The beginning was enticing and the end beautiful. It held you captive till the end. Definatley a must read!

5 out of 5 stars I love this book.......2005-10-24

This is one of my favorite books. It is really a sweet story with a wonderful ending.

3 out of 5 stars Good, but dull........2003-01-18

This series seems to get less exciting the more books you read. I am not sure what it is about it. This book was extremely dull in the middle, but the beginning is suspenseful and the ending you just have to stick around for!

5 out of 5 stars New, but great.......2002-06-13

This was new for Lori Wick. I had already read quite a few books by Lori Wick, but this book suprised me. Not that it was a bad book, it was a great book. It was just that Lori Wick, as I had thought, was a pretty easy-going writer. Nothing extreme. Her books didn't have much action. Not that, that is a bad thing, but this was the first book that actully had a villian. Well, a mean villian. I thought it was cool that Pup was a spy. And it pretty much had everything I wanted in a book. I thought it was so interesting and fascinating I read it in abou 6 hours.(:

5 out of 5 stars This is a great book!.......2001-06-15

I really like "To Know Her By Name". McKay is a handsome, daring man who was wounded in a fight. A country, reclusive woman finds the hurt man and takes him in. As he heals he finds out more and more about this woman. It turns out Callie is not as clueless and country girl as he thinks. It turns out she's working for the government as an undercover agent and is working on the same case he is. (He works for the treasury department.) Travel with McKay and Callie as they work to catch a criminal and slowly fall in love with each other.

5 out of 5 stars A "Must Read".......2001-01-25

Those not familiar with Elisabeth's work might do well to read her article entitled, "Feminist Theology as a Critical Theology of Liberation". That article, published in a number of edited collections of feminist theology, lays out the methodology she uses in, "In Memory of Her". Just as important, those not familiar with her work should begin this book with the understanding that it demands to be studied, not just read, very carefully. It is not a written motivational talk, i.e. to help women feel better about themselves. Women are not the problem. The book is written to challenge the deeply embedded assumptions scholars and people of faith make about biblical religion, biblical texts, and religious authority. It is the challenge, not just the book, that is formidable.

4 out of 5 stars Radical scholarly work on women in early christianity.......1999-11-09

From Biblical and extra-canonical literature, Schussler-Fiorenza gleans many little jewels of insight into the role of women in the early church. She compares the epistles of Peter and Paul, which enjoin restraint and submission of women, to the writers of the primary Gospels who emphasize altruistic love and service, not any form of hierarchy, as the substance of spiritual life. She relates the social conventions and legal roles of women in the ancient Roman world to the emergence of patriarchal church-institutions, in contrast to house-churches which could be headed by women. The picture which emerges is a very diverse early christian millieu in which women prophesied, presided over the eucharist, supported missionaries, and were missionaries themselves.

Unfortunately, the picture is hard to see if you are unaccustomed to the language of biblical scholarship and feminist historical reconstruction. For most people interested in feminist theology, this is not the book to start with. I wish someone would rewrite it for a broader audience. In substance it is exactly the kind of background that every woman should have, in order to understand how she has been viewed, defined, and influenced by christianity and christian-dominated culture.

It should be required reading (along with a diet of bread and water and daily flagellation) for every Catholic bishop who is not demanding the ordination of women in his church.

3 out of 5 stars product as expected, condition disappointing.......2007-01-19

The product arrived as described. We already had one for a Father Legacy so we new what to expect. The condition was very disappointing though. The book appeared as though it had sat on a shelf for years. There were dust stains on the cover that would not come off and there was no time to order another one before Christmas. I was embarrassed to give it. I was suprised that it was even shipped since it came from Amazon themselves, not a third party seller. I give it a 3 for the condition.

4 out of 5 stars The best of the memory books that I found.......2004-01-01

Because I wanted to give my two children a book of memories for Christmas, I looked at a number of ones found in various bookstores and online. A Mother's Memories to Her Child was the one that covered the topics that I was most interested in sharing with my children, which included my faith and my heritage from my parents. I also wanted to be able to personalize the book for each of my children, which I was able to do with this book (I actually completed two separate books -- one for each of them). My only objection to the book is that it doesn't cover a mother's college education or profession, which are important parts of my life, but I just added that part on my own. Also since I am a widow, I had to make some minor changes to the sections about their father (it would require major revisions for someone who is divorced). Overall though, it is a beautiful book that I enjoyed creating for my children.

5 out of 5 stars first time mom.......2003-09-21

A friend gave me this book as I was expecting our first child. I loved filling out the pages thinking that someday I would be able to share this with my child.

I makes a wonderful present for all moms. I have given a couple out as gifts and everyone loves the book. Some day my daughter will cherish it.

Book Description

In the ten years since Princess Diana’s shocking and tragic death in 1997, her hold on the world’s imagination has only increased. For The People’s Princess, Larry King asked many people who knew Diana, some officially and some more personally, for their favorite memories.

Sir Richard Branson recalls Diana sitting in the cockpit of one of his private planes with baby Prince William on her lap; as they flew past Windsor Castle she announced, “On our right you have Grandma’s house!” Heather Mills, who, like Diana, has been a tireless campaigner for charitable causes, recalls Diana’s work to eradicate the scourge of land mines, as well as the time she was photographed shaking hands with an AIDS patient in a London hospital, doing so much to counteract the stigma associated with the disease at the time. British radio and television personality Chris Tarrant recalls how clearly nervous he was upon meeting Diana for the first time, and how she put him at ease with an incredibly rude joke about Kermit the Frog. Photographer Tim Graham remembers Diana lying on the floor with baby William in order to coax a smile from the young prince. And her chief bodyguard recalls how happy and at peace she seemed on the day he agreed to her simple request: to be allowed to walk, truly alone for once, along a beautiful, deserted beach.

Some of these recollections are warm and intimate, celebrating Diana for her ability to make a human connection with everyone she met, others are perceptive and revealing, even about Diana’s human failings and frailties. Together, they coalesce into a multifaceted portrait of a woman that the world has long desired to know a little better.

Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars Horrible.......2007-08-09

You know its bad when you have Barbara Eden as one of the people who pay tribute to Diana. Yes that Barbra Eden as in "I Dream of Jeannie". Did I miss something? The book's title suggests that the tributes are written by "those who knew her best" Who are these people coming out of the woodwork..Tyra Banks, Donald Trump, etc. Some of these people never even met her how can they know her best? I am a die hard Diana fan and have most of her books but I must say this one put me to sleep. Did you ever hear the expression,"I was so bored I couldn't kill myself"? Well lets just say it was that bad. Don't waste your time nor money. If you really must read this just go to the library. This has got to be the worst Diana book I have ever read.

1 out of 5 stars King of Cashing In on The Anniversary.......2007-07-22

Unlike the other reviewers to date, I disliked this book and found it a bid to cash in on the anniversary of Princess Diana's death. How well did Larry King - or many of those who contributed to the book - really know her?

I usually enjoy compilations and had there been more substance, this would have been no exception. Instead, I found the book shallow and barely skims the surface. Perhaps these people did know her, but after reading the book, a more appropriate title would seem to be ".... From Those Who Met Her". I wanted to like this book, but it was like going to dinner and getting only a few hors d'oeuvres.

5 out of 5 stars Tributes to Diana from her friends and fans from the heart.......2007-07-21

A really wonderful book--a series of tributes to the late Princess of Wales by people from all walks of life, the famous and not so famous. The tributes are from people who knew Diana and met her and some were close friends, some were from people who admired her and were inspired. Each tribute is a vignette from one paragraph to several pages summing up their impressions of Diana and their experiences. Among these are: Larry King, Donald Trump,Sarah Bradford, Heather Mills, Joan Collins, Barbara Eden, Richard Kay, Twiggy, Catherine Walker, Tessa Dahl, and Ken Wharfe. I was moved by Tessa Dahl, a contemporary of the late Princess, she wrote about the parallel lives she and the Princess led and her story was quite moving. Bravo to Heather Mills who wrote in her tribute: "Remember--monuments are not erected to those who criticize, but rather to those who have been criticized." I also liked actr Christopher Biggins tribute and agreed fully when he wrote: "The biggest mistake of her (Diana's)life was to fall in love with her husband. If she hadn't cared for him so much it would have made everything easier to deal with. I don't think anyone had ever taken her aside and explained that her husband had a mistress. She was too young and innocent..." This is a vivid book that captures the personality of Diana. I do have several quibbles but these don't detract from the excellence and spirit of this book. One is that in Joan Hanger's tribute she writes that Will Carling "admitted" having an affair with Diana. I don't recall this happening and Carling who was in the middle of a nasty divorce would not have said a word. And those who knew the late Princess deny that there ever was a physical affair. The second is that in the Timeline at the end of the book, James Hewitt is said to be the man that Diana conversed with on the Squidgy Gate tapes, it was not Hewitt but James Gilbey. The third is the rather sour "tribute" by Dickie Arbiter who seems to pay tribute a little too grudgingly. I am thankful that Joan Rivers was not asked to pay "tribute" to Diana particularly after her rather acid appraisal of Diana after she died (she was invited to Charles and Camilla's wedding and appeared on Larry King and added particularly nasty comments about Diana). This is a fantastic book, Diana fans will want to buy this.

5 out of 5 stars A treasure for Grandchildren from their grandmothers'.......2004-08-15

This is a board book and is a golden treasure for grandchildren! It is alway neat to find out what your grandparents did when they where little girls themselves. The book allows your grandmother to put a childhood photo on the back page, and then each page has a drawing that puts your grandmother's face in the correct place for that picture. Pages are titled Family, School, Pets, Dolls..toys..games and hobbies, Tv.. radio and movies, books, vacations, Holidays, Money, Lessons I have learned and the last page is so your grandmother can record an embarrassing moment, fondest memory, or some other significant event from her childhood!

A simular book for Grandfather's is not out as of yet, and says Dec 2030, but I think that is a typo. An excellent book and what to get to know your grandmother and one your child will treasure for many, many years to come!

This book provides an opportunity for readers to become better acquainted with one of the most important psychologists of our time, as it celebrates her life and accomplishments. It is intended to be a working text—one that challenges, intrigues, and inspires all readers alike.

This multipurpose volume is intended to serve as a valuable resource for established scientists, emerging scientists, graduate students, lawyers, and health professionals.

    Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Interesting and important.......2007-04-24

This is an edited book which includes articles by a fair number of well-known friends and colleagues of Beth Loftus. Some articles provide reviews research topics while others provide personal details.

The list of authors is impressive. Most of them are well-known cognitive scientists. I might add that these are REAL cognitive scientists, and not the over-zealous activists who pose as scientists in order to combat Loftus' solid scientific conclusions about memory. Here is a list of the authors/chapters: Preface (the editors). (1) Elizabeth Loftus, "Memory Distortions: Problems Solved and Unsolved." (2) Gordon Bower, Tracking the Birth of a Star. (3) Greg Loftus, Elizabeth F. Loftus: The Early Years. (4) M.S. Zaragoza, R.F. Belli, K.E. Payment, "Misinformation Effects and the Suggestibility of Eyewitness Memory." (5) Stephen Ceci, M. Bruck, "Loftus's Lineage in Developmental Forensic Research: Six Scientific Misconceptions About Children's Suggestibility." (6) H. Hayne, "Verbal Recall of Preverbal Memories: Implications for the Clinic and the Courtroom." (7) Henry Roediger, III, M.A. McDaniel, "Illusory Recollection in Older Adults: Testing Mark Twain's Conjecture." (8) D. Strange, S. Clifasefi, M. Garry, "False Memories." (9) J. McMurtrie, "Incorporating Elizabeth Loftus' Research on Memory Into Reforms to Protect the Innocent." Mahzarin Banaji, "Elizabeth F. Loftus: Warrior Scientist." Carol Tavris, "The Cost of Courage."

The cover is amusing, It includes a photo of BL (beaming, beautiful, highlighted in purple) with a bunch of her colleagues --all men and most now famous -- from Stanford in the 1960s. Fortunatetly, the editors fall short of calling this a Festschrift (it's a "Bethschrift.").

Many of the chapters provide excellent new summaries of research on specific topics. For instance, the Roediger & McDaniel chapter provides an excellent, brief discussion of research on memory distortions in older adults. The chapter is not about Loftus, but rather it is about a line of research that she inspired.

Loftus has had a powerful effect on cognitive and clinical psychology. The ongoing controversies and debates surrounding recovered/repressed memories are understandable. As a cognitive scientist and a clinician, I can certainly understand why these are volatile topics because I find myself in the middle of them frequently. But Loftus remains one of my heros, even when I don't like what she has to say. She's a first-rate cognitive scientist and experimentalist, and she tackles tough, important issues with insight and guts. All this was true BEFORE she took on the recovered/repressed memory issue, but she essentially stepped on a land mine when she took on that topic. She's one of the greatest psychologists of our generation, as far as I'm concerned.

Shortly after learning of Princess Diana's death in a car crash on August 31, 1997, Mary Robertson was inspired to document her memories of the princess in order to balance the "mean-spirited and critical comments about her in the media coverage and certain books." The Diana Robertson first knew was an unassuming teenager who patiently and diligently cared for Robertson's young son two days a week in 1980. Robertson recalls Diana in detail, describing her first impression: "She was lovely, with perfect English skin, a slight blush on her cheeks, and clear blue eyes.... She looked just like the suburban teenagers I had known in America, only ever so much prettier." She then shares the milestones of her relationship with the future princess--accidentally discovering Diana's lineage, being told by Diana of her burgeoning relationship with Prince Charles, dodging reporters together outside the Robertson home, attending the "wedding of the century," visiting the princess and her sons at Kensington Palace, and, finally, attending the princess's funeral. Robertson's flattering depiction of Diana as a caring woman whose humility belied her background rings true even if the information the writer reveals about her own life is at times unnecessary and excessive.

      Book Description

In 1980, Mary Robertson, an American living in London, welcomed a shy young nanny into her home to care for her nine-month-old son. Little did she know that this was the beginning of an extraordinary friendship that would last for seventeen years. She was surprised to learn that the nanny was Lady Diana Spencer, who would later become Diana, Princess of Wales, the most celebrated woman of our time.

In The Diana I knew, Mary portrays a gentle, unassuming teenager who blossomed into an assured, world-class beauty. She describes a private side to a woman few people knew intimately. This is an American woman's personal account of her unexpected and touching friendship with Diana.

Mary's unique memories of this remarkable woman include Diana's nonchalant reaction to Mary's discovery of her nanny's aristocratic background and the day-to-day building of a trusting, affectionate relationship which developed into a true friendship. As Diana's life dramatically changed when the royal courtship began, she turned to Mary for guidance. Even after the Robertsons returned to the United States just before the engagement, Diana wrote frequently, wishing to continue the friendship.

From receiving the gilt-edged invitations to the Royal Wedding to being charmed by Prince Charles at the glamorous pre-nuptial ball at Buckinham Palace, Mary captures the magic of the wedding of the century. Despite the unimaginable demands of her life and the unraveling of the fairy tale, Diana made time to see Mary and her family. From the Robertsons' private meeting with the Prince and Princess in Washington to an intimate family luncheon at her home in Kensington Palace, Diana's generosity of spirit and appreciation of simpler times always shone through.

The Diana who emerges in this book is a committed and sincere woman who "loathed formality," a radiant and exuberant princess who had "little use for the upper classes" and someone who felt at home with "ordinary people."

From the profound tragedy of Diana's death and the heartbreak of her funeral, Mary transforms her grief into this eloquent tribute to her beloved friend Diana, the Princess of Wales.

The author will donate a portion of the proceeds from the sale of this book to charities supported by the Princess.

5 out of 5 stars The Diana before She Became Famous.......2007-07-16

Mary Robertson tells of a Diana that could have been one of our daughters or the girl next door who babysat for us. She explained several incidents, such as Diana eating out of their refridgerator that were so human. One wanted to reach inside the book, pull out Diana, and hug her. The way she opened up to the Robertsons is detailed and the pictures are so special. Mary Robertson writes as she knew Diana; she doesn't brag about knowing the Princess, but truly explains "The Diana She Knew." Highly recommended-definately one of my most favorite Diana books because the author is not intending to capitalize or sensationalize.

5 out of 5 stars One of the Better Diana Books.......2005-12-21

I wanted to read this book for the longest but it was unavailable. I finally bought it used through Amazon.
I was not disappointed! A truly readable and enjoyable book. Diana often was dismissed by critics as a shallow, self-serving woman who only "cared" about people when the cameras and press were recording an event.
Mrs. Robertson refuted this often repeated attack of Diana's character by showing us that behind the scenes and away from the press, Diana continued a warm friendship with this American woman and her family. A common family who could in no way further Diana's reportedly selfish agenda.
      Why?
The only explanation is that Diana truly was a very warm and caring person. The book captures that simple quality of Diana.
Many books have been written to show the world what the real Diana was supposedly like.
These books deride fans for believing in a media image of Diana and have attacked Diana's every move.
Mrs. Robertson knew the "real" Diana and her memories are refreshing, honest and much in tune with Diana's worldwide image.
Mrs. Robertson's friendship with the Princess of Wales was not based on a phony media image.
Thank you Mrs. Robertson for writing this book and showing us the lovely "inner" Diana.
Diana proved it was possible to be warm, unpretentious, radiant AND royal.

      5 out of 5 stars Wonderful book.......2005-06-15

I bought this book as soon as it came into the shops and have read it so many times. It is good to read Mary's account of her relationship with Diana. One of the most readable books I have ever read. I wonder if Mary has written other books?

3 out of 5 stars not the best of the pack but an interesting little book.......2002-11-26

I guess that I'd have to give this book about 3 1/2 stars if I could do that, it's an interesting little book to read. Written by Mary Robertson, the American woman who once employed Diana as a nanny, it isn't nearly as bad as some critics would suggest. The book starts with an Aug 31-Sept 6th recap of learning about Diana's death and attending the funeral, in the next chapter and for most of the book details Robertson's experiences over the years with the Princess. While Mrs. Robertson does talk about herself (not particularly boastfully)she tells a lot of harmless little details about Diana, various meetings & so on, that you just don't see elsewhere. I wouldn't put it at the top of your list of books to accquire but it makes a nice little addition.

      5 out of 5 stars A Definitive Diana Book.......2001-01-08

I've read most of the Diana books on the market, and this one is my all time favorite. The warmth, candor, and respect that Mrs. Robertson uses in describing her ongoing relationship with the late former Princess of Wales is refreshing (who else treats Diana with dignity anymore, anyway?), well paced (I can stay into it, even on the treadmill), and wholly respectable (staying exclusively in the realm of what Mrs. Robertson herself saw, learned, or experienced, and not crossing the line into lurid speculation, armchair psychology, or maudlin reflection). This is an idea purchase or gift with anyone having an interest in Diana, and I would recommend it wholeheartedly as a sweet (I know it's an overused word, but it's the RIGHT word) tribute to the relationship from one mother to another and their friendship which spanned 17 years.
