It is a conversation between a French woman (Gabrielle Bossis, 1874-1950), and her great Friend, her abiding Voice, her Loving Savior, Christ.

He & I has for more than a decade brought wave upon wave of consolation and hope to the shores of my soul. Our Lord truly speaks through this little book and has me returning to it again and again more than any other spritual book I've ever read. My copy is both worn and dog-eared and with little notes I penciled in when it seemed as if He anticipated my very thoughts before turning the page! This book is no small miracle for you will feel as if you are in direct conversation with Our Lord, with His very breath exhaled on every page...

It is hard to find a Book that could be described as the Ultimate Truth - APART FROM THE BIBLE - THIS I AM CONVINCED IS AN EXTENSION OF GOD'S WORD TO A SUFFERING WORLD. This is a remarkable, even stunning diary of a French Woman who faithfully wrote down convesations she experienced The Lord had with her from 1936 to 1950 - the dialogue is so different and compelling, even more so than with Theresa of Avila, that the book elicits responses that no other I have ever read has done. One is left with the conviction that she did in fact communicate simply with Her Great Friend in this manner and that you can too - I have in fact experienced similar " understandings " after humbly reading and believing the life-changing transcripts - THERE IS NO OTHER BOOK THAT IS LIKE THIS apart from the New Testament.

I found this book in the chapel of my church, and started reading it. I read it everyday after the mass; within a few months, I had begun attempts to reorganize the priorities of my life: it was first work, then God, and then people; now I want it to be first God, then people, and then work. The best and most helpful advice.......2007-08-21
I threw my husband out of the house when I found out he was having an affair with a woman at work. I was devastated, but he would not stop seeing this woman and was staying away from home for days at a time without any contact at all with me or our two small children. I told him he had to stop the affair or the marriage was over. He lied and said he did, but I found out shortly after I reconciled with him that he was still seeing her. After he left the second time, I struggled mightily with my decision and wavered between staying strong and falling apart whenever he'd call me. In short, whenever I became passive and sweet and forgiving, thinking he was having a change of heart, he'd invariably stomp all over me. He froze our bank accounts, came into the house without my knowledge and destroyed things, and ran up debts of almost $75,000. Once I got a lawyer, got tough, and said, "No more," and followed through with it, he backed off and began to treat me with more respect. I did end up divorcing him, but even with our struggles, the children and I are much happier now. Their father has ignored them for almost five years, but periodically he will call me up in the middle of the night, crying and leaving messages on the voice mail, begging to be forgiven. Ladies, do NOT make the mistakes I did. If he's determined to destroy your marriage, PLEASE do what you have to do to protect yourself and your kids. He won't do anything to help you, I guarantee it. If he suspects at all that because you still love him and are grieving the loss of your family, you'll do anything for him (like I did), you're finished. Please read this book, and as much as it hurts, face reality. Maybe he'll change, and maybe he won't, but enabling him and allowing him to repeatedly hurt and humiliate you will NOT bring him back.

I read this book when my husband had already moved out and is living with another women. For me, this book was too late but if you are in a place where your life partner is about to leave or has just left....this book is great. I am a Therapist and I highly recomend this book.
Must Reading for Every Spouse who has Heard These Words.......2006-01-13
This book is excellent and must reading for every spouse who has heard the words, "I don't love you anymore." As I read the book, I didn't want to believe the author about what was really going on in my marriage, that my husband was emotionally detached from me and that drastic action would need to be taken if the marriage had a chance of being saved. This is about tough love, not changing for them so that you are "acceptable" to them. I did that (tried to be the wife he wanted me to be) but it didn't work anyway. They were just excuses he gave me of why he was so unhappy.
You will not regret reading this book and implementing what Dr. Clarke says to do. If you have heard the above words, please get this book as soon as you can and follow it. There is a chance your marriage may be saved. I know how painful this time is--I was married for 20 years to my husband when this happened and could not imagine life without him--but take it from me that this is necessary.

This book fails to address the fact that there are ALWAYS 2 people in any dynamic, and only puts the blame on the offending partner, instead of looking at WHY it happened. Shaming someone does not help anyone grow. I do not believe this interpretation of the author's belief about what the Bible says.
I loved his other book "A Marriage Made in God's Eyes," but I found this book almost in direct contradiction to that one. I DO NOT recommend this book.

If you are even considering buying this book then you must be at a very dark and confusing time in your life. At least I was when I bought it. Reading this book really put things into perspective and reassured me there was hope no matter what the outcome would be. It's a very matter of fact approach but that is what's necessary when you are going through hard times. Let's just say I was in the finale stage of the book's suggestions and had given up all hope when things turned around for me. I am a firm believer in keeping family together...if it's worth holding on to. Stay strong, and don't lose sight of your needs.

Bullfighting - El Cordobes.......2007-05-29
I bought this copy of the book after having lost my original. I felt that I needed to read this book again, after meeting El Cordobes in Benidorm many years ago when Benidorn was still a small towm.
Well worth reading a second time.
Takes Great Courage!.......2007-03-25
Dominique Lapierre and Larry Collins have written a great book. "Or I'll Dress You In Mourning" is a powerful account of the life and times of "El Cordobes", which I had the good fortune of watching him fight a bull in the 60's in a black and white footage. His lack of fear and proximity to the bull while making his "passes" can only be described as exceptional courage! Regardless wether a person likes or does not like bullfighting as a sport or as an art, the fact remains that these particular kind of bulls are a breed that can quite easily kill a person with just one gore of their deadly horns. These are no friendly, peaceful animals. Some of them are amazing sights. Just to imagine one charging at you knowing their split second reactions allows them to turn on a dime, sort of speak, makes a person appreciate the drama involved in a "corrida". The story of "El Cordobes" and the period of time in which it took place in Spain makes for great reading. This "Matador's" poverty and desire to become the best is nothing short of exceptional. Dominique Lapierre is a great writer. Another great book by him is "City of Joy". A book of such spiritual force that leaves the reader helpless with awareness. I like the fact that this kind of writing is non fictional. Larry Colling has collaborated with Lapierre and must take equal amounts of credit for this book. 5 stars for this great book, a proud inclusion in anyone's library.
A history of Spain during the reign of Franco.......2005-12-20
This is my favourite book of all times. I have read it at least seven or eight times and every time, it never fails to excite me. The story is well told and animated and as well as understanding the life of El Cordobes, you also learn so much about the history of Spain, the era of Franco and the impact his tyranny had on the country. If you read this book, I guarantee you will not be disappointed.

I've read this book twice now. Never fails to enthrall me. It is great on 3 levels. One, a spellbinding plot that can keep you up all night. Two, it teaches some Spanish history and bullfighting lore. Three, it makes you grateful for what you have and shows that with perseverance your dreams can come true. A good book for a teenager. One of the best I've read in a long time.

Perhaps one of the best biographies I have ever read, this book tells the story of the fabled Spanish bullfighter Manuel Benitez "El Cordobes"!
Born in strict poverty, this youngser defied all the odds in becoming perhaps the most famous modern day "toreador"! His phenominal rise to fame is truly something out of a novel! El Cordobes, desperate, illiterate, starving had one dream, to become a bullfighter. And the odds were stacked heavily against him. This noble profession certainly had no room for such a peasant! But the heavens were looking out for him and rise he did. With the help of an influential patron, El Cordobes succeeded, and with a fervor almost unparalleled. Just Not A Good Fit For A Classroom ....she said self-referentially.......2007-04-20
I was given this book several years ago when I was out book shopping with a teacher I love to be with.
We were both rather caught up that day in the spirit of the art and poem.
Feels almost a decade ago, so it probably was.
I liked Chagall's pictures some of which here I had not seen, will never see (though I've made a good stab at knowing his work)and appreciate this book form and maybe, in my way, felt that the poem was pushing me to consider them from a perspective I might have seen differently sans text. It would be typical that my friend was drawn to the words reading it to me several times, and I think drawing a bit of customer interest, while I was held by the images. Well we were in a children's bookstore in the art books looking for things to use in teaching...so I guess in a way...we were behaving rather like a child might finding the National Geo holding pictures of "naked people" something I recall of my brothers days. I imagine the internet fills that role now.....
This said I would contextualize this...I was raised in another "time" and in the arts and literature. In my era if creating a piece we were asked frankly to shock, disarm, question to engage with literature and art for its ability to speak the human truth that often is hidden or obfuscated. That love contains a side that exists physically ....a kind of accepted truth. Thus you have Cummings poem. Which is a bit..risque. Or these paintings. I don't know why I find reality TV not this or expressions in culture now different but I do. I am aware that changes in outlooks now conclude that a book like this one would be kind of a scandal in school.
Not that I was taking it there, but in my time I think "nobigdeal". I find this odd with what goes on media wise...but enough said.
I would imagine the persons exchanging this as a gift would be talking of love, or like my friend and I feeling silly happy about an aspect of living. If I put it on the coffee table in a stack of art books my kids read it, enjoy the pictures, like the book but I doubt think much one way or another besides its sweet. To me at the time I found it spoke to journeys in our lives, positive aspects of this thing denoted as love functioning in our days....funny...irreverent. Rather a playful relationship to the viewer maintained, nice diversion. I'd give it to someone with a heart.

This is one of the most beautiful combinations of poetry and art. The poem is really quite beautiful. The art is inspirational. I don't knwo that I'd give it to a couple for their wedding though, cause the poem is about a man who is cheating on his wife....So don't take the advice of the other reviewer, the couple might look at you funny!

If you are a Chagall or e.e. cummings lover, this book is not to be missed. It is an absolute treasure and such a beautiful marriage of words and art! The images perfectly complement the text. Highly recommended, even as an introduction to either of these two artists.

A terrific combination of art appreciation classes and literature for reading outdoors--took me back some 35 years to college days in its content, and then back up to the present in its pervasive wisdom. As an UP series fan, this is a disappointment.......2004-12-06
This is a thin little book (155 pages) that is mostly transcripts of the film 42 UP. It includes snippet interviews of the other UP film series, but these are identical to what you will find in the "flashbacks" in the 42 UP film. There is a little bit extra here from the 35/42 Uppers than in the movie but not enough to be hyped as "never-before-available out-takes from 35 UP and 42 UP". The interviews themselves are raw transcripts without descriptive comments like "sighs", "laughs", "winces" which would help put the verbal comments in perspective.
It saddened me to see such classy people like Michael Apted and Roger Ebert involved in this book project which clearly came from a marketing person. This book will not enhance your experience of 42 UP in the least.
My advice is to get the 42 UP series DVD and listen to Michael Apted's commentary track. It contains much more information than is found in this book.

I was doing a study of the life of Abraham, and bought this book. I discovered that it's not about Abraham, but about Henry Blackaby. I should've known better, having heard him give a seminar that was also mostly about himself. My copy ended up in the trash.

I was appalled to read on page 49 that "a girl with a Catholic background was saved in our church." I was always taught to respect others in their religious beliefs, and that you do not have to belong to a particular religion to be SAVED.I really cannot understand how a man of God can write in this manner.

Excellent book.......2005-08-02
This is an outstanding book. Benny Hinn's ministry has done nothing but help the Body of Christ. If you choose to hate him, then keep your ungodly thoughts to yourself. Benny Hinn is not perfect and neither are you. Jesus was persecuted for healing the sick in His day and Benny Hinn is condemned today by modern day Pharisees for doing the same. Should we expect anything different? Jesus said that we would experience persecution.
Thank you Brother Benny for taking the Good News to a sinful, angry, sick, poor, and defeated world.
ONE OF THE BIGGEST SCAM ARTISTS.......2005-07-09
Benny Hinn is one of the biggest scam artists in the history of Evangelical Preaching. It isn't about God, its all about Benny! To turn around and to curse your enemies the way he does? THe bible says, "love and pray for your enemies" not curse them. "Name it and claim it".......but didn't our Lord pray in the Garden, "not my will but thine be done"....I bought into this sham, saw the error of my ways and returned to my Catholic faith! Thank the Lord I did. May God have Mercy on Benny Hinn and forgive me for judging him.

Mr. Hinn's testimony would be so much more glorifying to God if it weren't for all the inconsistencies that surround his life & ministry. God Himself has access to everything...and can bless us with whatever He wishes...healing...wealth...a business opportunity...etc, etc. He can also choose to WITHHOLD ..which is something many modern Christians don't want to dicuss..or even contemplate. The bottom line is all monetary things are temporary..can easily come...easily go. Too many ministries have succumbed to corruption & over indulgence...allowing themselves everything...denying themselves nothing..even though they can afford anything because God's people have sincerely entrusted their money to them. The Apostles warn Christians about the dangers of these follies...& the deception that entraps those caught up in this.
I've seen Mr. Hinn several times in person...I am not going to make judgments about him or his salvation..or even comment about healing. I will say... he seems to be indifferent about resolving issues raised regarding questionable handling of finances & unusual doctrines..both having become an unrelenting stumbling block to those outside the church & within. The critical issue here is...God doesn't overlook sin...Mr. Hinn's or anyone else's. Neither would God be very approving of the exploitation of his sheep...or careless stewardship, the kind that rejects accountability. God's judgements are more severe with His own who call themselves His servants. It's not acceptable for Mr. Hinn to refute any kind of discipline by saying....."don't touch God's Annointed"? Or dispute any reputable bible scholars criticism under the guise that they are 'Not filled with the spirit' in the manner that Mr. Hinn is. Does not the bible say all believers who have His spirit residing in them are annointed?
Sadly what appears to have transpired here...is that someone who may have started out genuine ...with good intentions..and a very sincere heart...has gotten way off track...perhaps because the life of luxury & riches has become so intoxicating...that it's hard to part with. Mr. Hinn could regain much LOST credibility if he'd make his way back to his own humble beginnings...living life before God & men in an exemplary manner that no longer gives outsiders a foundation for disdain.
No believer enjoys seeing his brother causing others to stumble...but as believers we have a scriptural obligation to say so when he is. My hope is that Mr. Hinn will allow God's winnowing fork to do it's work..in his own personal life & not allow his lifestyle & ministry to mock God...even if that means losing it for Christ's sake.
A great reputation of honor & integrity is highly prized in God's word..but this is so rarely reflected amongst healing televangelists... whose central preoccupation amounts to little more than gimmicks to increase ones wealth.

LET IT BE KNOWN: BENNY HINN IS THE CLOSEST THING TO JESUS CHRIST ON EARTH AT THIS VERY MOMENT! GET DOWN ON YOUR KNEES FOR BENNY! OPEN YOUR CHECKBOOK! LOOK AT YOUR SAVINGS ACCOUNT! NOW WRITE A CHECK TO BENNY FOR THE ENTIRE AMOUNT IN YOUR SAVINGS! How do you expect to enter Heaven if you do not give? Seriously, this sham-artist, Christ-charlatan beggar has the WORST hair I've seen on a tv preacher. But have you seen when he touches the sick brought up on stage? THAT is a total laugh riot. And the title of this book? HE TOUCHED ME? THAT is HILARIOUS. It is a complete, howling SCREAM! All religion is false. There is NO god. Do you understand? Religion is the greatest con, the most obscene deception mankind has ever perpetuated upon itself. The reality is, "heaven on earth" is absolutely possible - HERE AND NOW. You don't need to wait for the maniacal, Christian-fascist led government to launch into a nuclear holocaust to initiate some countdown to rapture-victory. What nonsense! The last thing a Christian wants presently is peace on earth. Today's Christian thrives on uncertainty, the threat of mass death and destruction, panic and mayhem. How boring it must be to live in peaceful times, eh, Christian? I'm reminded of a saying by an old friend: "Sinners are the grist for the mills of churches". Wake up you Bible-slobbering fools. Jesus isn't going to come back. WHY ON EARTH would you put so much trust into something which cannot be verified? Oh, that's right. You have to have "faith". HAHAHAHA. Yeah, tell that to the millions of innocents who have suffered needlessly. It makes me want to puke every time I watch a sporting event or an award show and the "recipient" of blessings looks up to the sky, thanks God, or says something like, "this was God's work, all the way". Yeah, it was God's work, but God couldn't be bothered to stop something like the Holocaust, or 9/11. But, oh, make no mistake, He had time to help a team win a game or a recording artist to win some stupid trophy. Yes, that was God!! UTTER NONSENSE. AN EMBARRASSMENT TO HUMANITY. THAT'S RELIGION!

The title of this book is a glowing reminder of all that is wrong with Christian publishing. The title is ridiculous and stunningly irreverent. Is getting a catchy title on the front of your book worth throwing scatologically-tinged references to the Second Coming on the front cover?! If it wasn't so sad, I would start dying laughing at the apparent ignorance of the writer and publisher to the fact that most will do a double-take upon seeing this book and then snicker.
I guess however that this book will fit perfectly right next to all of the shallow "Jesus Junk" peddled by Christian bookstores all over the world.

I received this wonderful book for Christmas and I have really enjoyed it. I have passed the book on to my friends for them to enjoy. I found the book very informative, emotional, and humorous. But she does not go into detail about the "splashes of joy," I would love to know the "words" that go with the marbles.

Barbara Johnson's knack for 'splashing joy' in this world takes a somber but uplifting look at what lies in store for those who can really look forward to the day they leave this earth. She clarifies to Christians just what is meant by 'saved by the grace of God'.
As usual her book is an easy and quick read, full of wisdom and humor. The contributed art work by Sam Butcher of Precious Moments is an excellent touch.
