Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Belief in God in an Age of Science, by the renowned theoretical physicist and theologian John Polkinghorne (a fellow of Queen's College, Cambridge), collects a series of lectures exploring the compatibility of science and theology. Polkinghorne's most interesting argument is that the two disciplines, which he calls "intellectual cousins," exhibit "a common concern with the attainment of understanding through the search for motivated belief." He describes this common concern by comparing the scientific investigation into the nature of light that led to the quantum theory with the theological investigation of the nature of Christ's being that led to the Chalcedonian Creed. Polkinghorne's prose is lucid throughout, and his broadminded rigor persuades readers that "if reality is generously and adequately construed, then knowledge will be seen to be one; if rationality is generously and adequately construed, then science and theology will be seen as partners in a common quest for understanding." --Michael Joseph Gross

Book Description

John Polkinghorne brings unique qualifications to his exploration of the possibilities of believing in God in an age of science: he is internationally known as a theoretical physicist and as a theologian. In this thought-provoking book, Polkinghorne focuses on the collegiality between science and theology, contending that the inquiries of these "intellectual cousins" are parallel.

3 out of 5 stars A Book I So Wanted To Like.......2007-08-05

I love a good book that bridges (because yes there is a bridge) between science and theology. I bought this book after seeing all the praise it received here on Amazon, along with other places. And indeed the book did start out strong. It explored the nuances of how science and theology are woven together to show the purpose of the universe, from the smallest of particles to the largest of galaxies. The enjoyment rose, many considerations were given by the author, then something happened. It was as if a rousing discussion turned into a tedious lecture. My reading slowed down. I understand what Mr. John Polkinghorne is talking about, but the way he talks about all the considerations between science and theology, just seems like a heavy load with dwindling payoff. The sentence and paragraphs just seemed to start boggling down after half the book has been read. This doesn't mean that I don't like what is being said, it is just that what is being said is being said in a very laborious way. I highly suggest readers to read this book, it does have some very important considerations to be made toward the balance and the binding of theology (the exploration toward the mind of God and the will of God and the love of God) and science (how the will of God works on quantum natural, the Newtonian natural, and super-natural levels). At least in my opinion. However, I must warn you that there will be times that you will find yourself laboring through a few pages here and there just wishing the author to get to the point, at least in a more flowing way than he does.

5 out of 5 stars Very enlightening.......2005-10-25

Polkinhorne aims to see the world through theology than through physical science. It is a great literary piece when a person is always in conflict with self vs. religion because of science. Here is a physicist/theologian who shifts his scientific view of things to a more spiritually open way of perceiving the world.

4 out of 5 stars Dense, yes, but worth the effort!.......2003-11-21

This book is dense in ideas. Fr. Polkinghorne does not talk down to you, he expects you to keep up. I must admit, that even with an MSEE, I had to read some passages three or four times before I felt that I had grasped the nuances. However, it is well worth the effort (assuming you have your OED on hand as well as your old physics and philosophy texts!). I would say that fred101 did a better job than any other reviewer to date in summarizing the key elements of this book, but I will attempt to condense it further and make it more readable -- even if it may only be for my own edification!
Fr. Polkinghorne makes clear that he knows that he cannot claim to make a "proof" of God's existence nor can he likewise claim that science (that is to say the human endeavor to "explain" and thereby predict/retrodict commonly observed phenomena -- my apologies to Huston Smith, but there is my attempt) can completely approach an all encompassing explanation of reality. Modern philosophy as well as modern physics itself (through QM's indeterminancy) and the Incompleteness Theorem of Godel have seen to that. Those who seriously study these subjects will appreciate this. What he can say, however, is this, that science has approached a certain practical level of explanation that cannot be ignored any longer by those of more mystic beliefs or philosophies. Likewise, he argues that at least the belief in a God of the new natural philosophy as he outlines here (and in his other books) would be as (if not more) "intellectually satisfying" in placing a context to the cosmos as we understand it currently than a universe born out of nothing! He adds to this that it is to his thinking nothing short of spectacular to heap upon this a belief, as non-intelligent design'ers must, in the coincidences of the apparently narrow path which not only brought us into existence, but which also makes the universe appear to fight our general understandings of entropy (chaos) by "becoming" something more "complex" and even "self aware" (through our minds) rather than just remaining within its equally likely state of the original primordial chaos of the big bang. Perhaps, only David Bohm or Fritjof Capra have offered something plausible here, but they are not in the mainstream of interpretations of QM. Fr. Polkinghorne relies on the former to explain this God's possible method of interaction with our reality through its complex (edge of order and chaos) systems. This could be considered a weak link by many, but there it is. I admit that I am slightly inclined to it myself, as far as it may be taken.
If there are any other weak points to Fr. Polkinghorne's thinking, they would start with the connection he attempts to make between this neo-natural theology and the orthodoxy of Christianity. I honestly didn't understand it. At best I would describe it as a liberal application of "Cartesian Doubt" -- If you don't know/have any better facts, it's best to stick with what's most commonly believed. But by that logic then we should all perhaps be Buddists or Muslims. Anyway, from other reviews, I am apparently not alone. In his defense, he rightly points out that "critical realism" as applied to theological study is a new field and better theological minds than he have only begun to grope its boundaries -- we therefore must be respectfully patient on this perhaps. Equally unfortunate is the fact that he evades (squarely!) facing the question of the rather spectacular notion that such a Creator, as he just envisioned, should bestow any particularly special character to one (incredibly small!) cultural group and to add perhaps more insult to this, only visit them with an incarnation of Himself -- leaving no first-hand written word. For a design as spectacular and intricate as this universe appears to me, on a planet as small as ours, it would seem to be a blundering oversight to miss all the other diverse cultures -- though, to the mind of a chaotician, nothing could be a sweeter picture, perhaps, than one illiterate man, coming from seeming nowheresville, and exhibiting such a major influence upon the world.

In all, this may be one of the most important books you'll ever read, if you understand it! I very highly recommend it.

3 out of 5 stars Wow........2003-03-25

Simply put, unless you have a PhD. in Physics and Theology, which John C. Polkinghorne does, don't even try. The book is so dense that it took me several times reading each chapter to pull much out of it (and I still feel like there is more in there I haven't touched.)

On the other hand, if you do have these PhD's or would like some good light (light being emphasized very sarcastically here) reading, this is the book for you. Polkinghorne did not mean to prove God's existence through physics or math, just open the minds of those that might never have thought that it is possible to believe in God in an Age of Science.

4 out of 5 stars credible eschatology - not.......2002-03-25

A thin volume that is very dense! John Polkinghorne is a physicist and theologian. In this well written book, he attempts to pull together our experience in this modern world with a belief in God. He uses the "model" of scientific thinking to support his theological thinking.

Many of the writers on my book page are taken to task here, and I admit to having a bit of a struggle following all of Rev. Dr. Polinghorne's logic. In the end, I was not convinced, yet the writing is compelling and I have now gone through much of the book several times over. I was looking for an understanding of ancient scripture that breaths new meaning for today. And indeed, some cases of "updated thinking" has given new life to the stories and metaphors of the Christian scriptures of my youth. But some must simply be abandoned. There is precedent to do so. Yet we seem, as a people, to stubbornly hold onto other literal interpretations and it gets us cross-wise of our intellectual understanding.

Polkinghorne has received recognition from the Templeton Foundation for this work. No doubt it is well deserved. For example, Polkinghorne has this to say about an updated Christian view: "A credible eschatology, which takes account of the eventual death of the universe and looks beyond it to God's new creation, is surely an indispensable component in realistic Christian thinking."

Still, I am not convinced that he has shed any light for the belief in God in an age of Science. Despite his credentials in science, his theology gave me no sound logic for "proving" the existence of God. In the end, it is still a matter of faith - you either believe it, or you do not. You either have it, or you do not and this book, to my understanding, did not change the picture for me. Yet I highly regard and highly recommend this book to you!

3 out of 5 stars Walking with gods.......2005-12-21

I first came across the thoughts of Colin Wilson in one of his novels, 'The Philosopher's Stone', where the hero - let's call him Will Colinson - relates:

'I developed remarkable powers as an algorist - a lowly branch of mathematics concerned with devising methods for solving problems.'

Mr Wilson considers himself an authority on mathematics, so you might think that something sensible is being said here. In fact it is a category mistake, like saying that bars are a lowly branch of music. If he can do this in a subject I know something about, it makes me think twice about trusting his judgment in areas where I know less. For not only is he an authority on mathematics and science, he is also an authority on philosophy, criminology, history and the paranormal.

This book is a long, discursive account of magic and magicians from the Stone Age to the 20th century, written in a souffle-like style which many readers find agreeable. Anyone who ever claimed to do magic is in, and some get in who never claimed to. If you would walk with the gods this is the easy route, but watch out for the boggy patches. On almost every page there are odd misconceptions delivered ex cathedra. The French Revolution was caused by Marie Antoinette's shopping sprees which bankrupted the French state. Numa, a legendary king of early Rome, was 'Emperor' when Roman territory was about ten miles across. The Spanish Armadillo was a better swimmer than the Great Seal - no, he doesn't say that but I suspect he would if he'd read '1066 and All That'. Call it nit-picking, but this rings alarm bells for me. He is a sort of intellectual magpie: a person of very wide reading with no discernible critical sense, least of all in relation to himself. Maybe that helps when you walk with the gods.

If you're confident of spotting all the howlers and discounting them, you may be able to find some firm ground here. The author is industrious; there is a lot of information and it's possible that some of it is not too inaccurate. It's even possible that one or two of his notions are worth a moment's consideration. The problem is deciding which.

3 out of 5 stars THE OCCULT (RANDOM HOUSE, INC./1971).......2004-12-28

As far as the history part goes, Wilson's book is a fascinating documentation of occultism starting with primitive shamanism and progressing through century after century of magicians and mages and adepts from Dee to Dion Fortune, Cagliostro to Crowley while touching upon almost every aspect of supernatural phenomenon. But whereas Christian beliefs teach that the occult and all its branches and manifestations are demonic in origin (or at the very least draw real demonic spirits to the ones who engage in such practices as divination, ritual magick, invoking of spirits, psychic mediums who open themselves up to any spiritual contact like a human ouija board, and astral projection), Wilson argues that the occult is a way to get in touch with the deepest part of subconscious self as well as the Jungian "collective unconscious" or universal energy/psychic ether that he contends we can manipulate or tap into thus enabling us to discern the future and relive past lives (yes, he also argues in favor of reincarnation). As a Christian I must speak according to the mainstream theological point of view which Wilson conveniently pushes to the back burner (so to speak) especially when you read of all these weird supernatural things happening to all these people who deliberately ignore the warnings of God in regards to participating in these rituals. Of course, it would be perfectly fine to engages in such occultic practices if there weren't real entities out there trying to kill you. And even if you don't believe in such fallen/demonic/angelic entities, why take the chance? Why risk opening such a Pandora's Box that you can't control (or which these entities make you think you can control) and which could very well destroy you (mentally, physically, and spiritually) as well as those you love? Instead of believing the pseudo-psychological mumbo jumbo of men why not just accept the truth that there is a God and that there is a macro-world of angels and demons that we cannot see? Why is this so hard to believe? We can believe in a micro-world of invisible-to-the-naked eye organisms yet refuse to believe in a macro-world of God and Satan, angel and demon, faithful and rebellious even though we can see the positive and negative results of these forces every single day throughout the entire world. A simple comparison of the evil practices of Aleister Crowley (and the horrible results of his self-centered philosophy of "do what thou wilt" which has left a trail of insanity and death highlighted by Crowley's own struggle with heroin and sexual disease) to the life and character of Jesus Christ (and his example of love, peace, goodness, faith, kindness, self-control, humility, compassion, righteousness, holiness, and truth under God) gives a perfect example of all that is wrong with the occult. The three star rating is for Wilson's "HISTORY", not his philosophy.

5 out of 5 stars One of Wilson's most engaging researches.........2004-09-16

Having read quite some books written by C.Wilson, i know that going through the ones where he's conducting research is always a great experience.

"The Occult" is famed for being probably the premiere book on its subject: the history of magic, its definitions, the paranormal, the limits of human powers and the analysis of the "hidden powers" humans possess, certain forays into specific areas (like clairvoyance, means to achieve it, etc.) , loads of examples from throughout history on people who've influenced this field, as well as a comprehensive review of views that prevail over all these areas.

This is without the slightest doubt a gripping book. Even if you have only a surface interest on all this, Wilson has a way of pulling totally into the matter, absorbing you and letting you get to the very depths of it.

But if you happen to actually care about this field -and it's indeed a field where imagination can really gallop wild- then this book is quintessential to start from.

The market is saturated with books that deal with the "occult" or specific areas of it, but before you should even bother with any of these you should start here. Alone the vast list of sources that will be introduced to you is enough to make the book nothing else than a treasure.

But its main asset is that Wilson approaches the subject with his usual hardcore seriousness and efficiency, and lets remember, this is a topic where charlatanism is often the rule. But it's the scientific approach that puts C.Wilson ahead of the pack. The gathering of evidence through exhaustive reading of anything regarding the issue, the evaluation of it, the personal analysis as well as that of others, the comparisons thereof, the analytical history of the subject.

I find it hard to believe that one would read this and emerge the same person. Close to impossible I would say.

Believing that this book researches the very probable future of human evolution, an evolution that might be very much nearer than most of us think and which has tremendous implications about what we could become, i think the "Occult" is an absolute must.

I listed down over 20 books for immediate reading after this one, books that i found reported in it. Not to mention that i found interest in areas that i hadnt suspected as being as intriguing as Wilson revealed them to be.

If you decide to buy this book be warned that it's a hefty 800 page volume, but be also informed that it's the fastest 800 pages you'll ever read as the author is one of the most easy to comprehend researchers i've read. Many others confirm this as well as you can find out by browsing through reviews of Wilson's books here in Amazon.
Powerhouse stuff...

4 out of 5 stars Interesting, Informative, Well Written..But...................2004-08-25

Very Gullible!.In this book, one of Mr. Wilson's most accessible, we learn of witches, ghosts, magic and spells, demons, offbeat cults, and a lot more for much of recorded history. Very entertaining, and makes a great Halloween gift, but the only problem is that Mr. wilson, despite his great intellect and writing skills, seems to fall for about every humdrum and humbug rumor about his subject without subjecting it to serious, objective evaluation. Myriad cases are described throughout this excellent and entertaining book, but perhaps the best is the Flying, Levitating St. Joseph, in which the author simply accepts all supposed witnesses from nearly 400 years ago with not a shred of skepticism. Other similar cases abound. So read this book with at least a minimal sense of rational doubt!

4 out of 5 stars An unbiased investigation.......2004-04-27

Colin Wilsons investigations into arcane matters span over several decades of his life. I don't believe this is the best of his works, but it's the best survey of the history of the occult in his library of contributions. A reader seeking an honest examination of best available facts and history probably won't find a better place to begin than with this one.

I believe Poltergeist is probably his best, but the range of investigation is far narrower.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent Book on Science and Religion.......2002-11-30

A modern view of the Christian faith that respects the latest findings of science. Mr. Ward's book is a delight to read and is easily accessible read for the layman. I highly recommend to those with an open mind.

1 out of 5 stars failed attempt.......1999-09-20

Ward tries to reconcile materialism and Christianity--and fails. There are much better books on both sides. for the materialist side I would rather recommend Dawkins' The Blind Watchmaker or The selfish gene; Rushton's Race, Evolution and Behavior; Jared's The Real American Dilemma; Hawking's A Brief History of Time. This are all beter books from the materialist side. And for a book soundly reconciling Christianity with materialism, I like beter Duke's My Awakening.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic.......1999-07-23

Nevermind what the other reviewer had to say. From what I can see, he is simply existing in the drowning world of biblical literalism, which anybody prepared to read this book must have the intellect to at least challenge.
Reading what adherents to Dawkins' theories about atheism having been proved by science in such books as 'The Blind Watchmaker', it is extremely refreshing to know that even within the same university there is a professor with enough intellect to show that, if Dawkins thinks science disproves God's existence, then he is completely missing the point. Ward has come up with some of the most spectacular thought on the relation between science and religion that I have encountered; this is really necessary reading for any serious theologians.
The only reservation I have about this bookcomes from my own personal differences of faith from Ward, who has somewhat more liberal views than myself. However, this is really no hinderance to the book; if anything, it has only made it more interesting for me to read. A truly great book.

2 out of 5 stars Evangelicals will find this book a disappointment.......1998-11-30

Having read numerous Christian apologetics books over the past two years, I was looking forward to learning what this author had to say on Christianity and science. The read proved to be a major disappointment. The author works in an environment where evolution is accepted as an estabilished fact (e.g., there is no mention, perhaps awareness, of Michael Behe's work or that of Phillip E. Johnson) and the integration of world religions is the goal and he re-interprets the message of the Bible in this light. While the terminology is Christian and there are times when the author seems to be lapsing back into a mainstream Christian message, his understanding of Christianity is decidedly non-Christian. He selects the ideas which are appealing to his sensibilities and tosses statements which are troubling in these enlightened times (e.g, hardly anyone goes to Hell and Christ is only one of many ways). What we are left with is a watered down treatment which would never have inspired the original Christians to go out and do what they did to spread the Word. I believe I heard that only about 2% of Britons attend church; if this is what passes for Christian theology, I can see why.

1 out of 5 stars A Zero Star Book.......2007-04-11

I do not know whether this author has any training as a Catholic priest, but he'd make a fine inquisitor. By attempting to persuade the reader that churches were built on Pagan worship sites after the energy had "burned out" (or should I say "at the stake"?), he loses the Scholar/Historian to any serious contemplation. His semi-intriguing theory of JFK as a sacrificial king makes me wonder what the late Margaret Murray would have said in response, but it's not enough of an enticing idea to warrant the purchase of this book.

4 out of 5 stars An English Perspective.......2000-09-19

Alan Richardson is an interesting read. He is an English author which colors much of the book. Another facet of him that is evident in this book is his apparent reverence for the late Crowley. He has a sartorial wit of which he seems to be very much aware. If you can block out his numerous asides this is actually a very good book on the masculine deity.

When I said that Richardson's Englishness colors "Earth God Rising" I meant that he dwells quite a bit on Cernunnos or Herne. This of course is natural. Any good writer writes about what he knows. I found his exploration of the God to be enlightening and informative. His occasional sly references can easily be taken in stride as long as one understands where he is coming from. Richardson is one of those traditional English Witches. He expects you to read between the lines, to look at his work at a slant. He tries to point in the right direction but he expects that you will work it out on your own.

This is an excellent book for the serious student. The answers are not in this book but the questions are. You have to know the right questions to ask before you can find the answers you seek. If you expect knowledge to be handed to you on a plate this book will disappoint.

4 out of 5 stars an interesting, thoughtful book.......1999-10-06

This is an interesting and thoughtful book about pagan concepts of male deity and I heartily recommend it.

This book was very good. It touched on alot of the new religious fever's in the world. As we all look for meaning, this book explores those ares in great detail. The world has changed, so must God,even though the universal message is the same, this is a new babylon. As I type this ,I wonder how the aphosles would have written the bible on a P.C., if Jesus came a little latter in history? Grreat stuff!
