Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

3 out of 5 stars Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

5 out of 5 stars Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

5 out of 5 stars Very Interesting.......2007-03-07

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

5 out of 5 stars If you need some comfort from your loss and reassurance..........2007-07-19

If you need some comfort from your loss and reassurance...Then this is the book for you. Please see the related companion books also. Our family recently lost a pet and this book has been a comfort and help for us.

The author lays out in plain english and easy to understand stories and terms, what happens to pets, just like people, when they pass away.

Using a combination of quotes from scripture, coupled with near death experiences & descriptions, she logically paints a very vivid picture of what happens to our friends when we lose them. Stories from both sources blend well and compliment each other to provide a good description of what awaits our pets.

Contrary to worst case scenarios, their souls actually are fine and waiting to meet us when we pass away.

This book and companion books will offer you comfort and relief, but regardless of your decision to get them, if you are suffering from the loss of your friend, then God Bless you and provide you with comfort.

5 out of 5 stars A Wonderful, Scripture-Based Book; I Highly Recommend It.......2007-05-19

I enjoyed reading this; I only wish that I would have known about it around the time that I had to say goodbye to my beloved and favorite cat. This book gave me great comfort, new Spiritual insights and confirmed some of what I thought were "my ideas" that certain Scriptures actually meant. I also purchased the companion book, "Animal Prayer Guide." I Praise the Lord that I will be reunited with my beloved furkids when the Lord takes me home. If anybody has any doubts about the destiny of their dear pets' souls, this book is a "must read" and will surely put any and all of those doubts to rest.

4 out of 5 stars excellent detail but incomplete.......2007-08-23

This book is written by several experts and is essentially a compilation of individual articles, each of which is outstanding in the detail of the direction given. However, for a person seeking to make a particular bow, all 3 books of the series are needed and there is not an orderly progression. Just count on buying all three, reading them all, making decisions based on what you've learned, and then picking chapters to help you as you go along.

5 out of 5 stars A great series of books for traditional archers.......2006-08-28

For those interested in making traditional bows these books come highly recommended. The instructions are simple enough for beginners, and detailed enough that experienced bowyers can learn several new techniques, a rare quality in many "how to" books. Explained very well are the theory's or why's behind the instruction.
This volume, # 2 explains bow construction from boards, recurve bows, composite bows, bow strings from natural and manufactured materials, bending wood, steel points, and quivers. Bows from ancient Europe, and the eastern woodlands are studied and explained in detail. Chapters written on hints, shortcuts, and shooting accuracy improvement are also very valueable. The chapter on board bows was worth the price of the book by itself, as I am unable to cut bow staves from trees.

The Traditional Bowyer's Bible Vol. 1
by Numerous contributors
A collection of craftsmen come together to demonstrate the building and dynamics of different woods into different types of bows. There are three books in the series Vols.: l, ll and lll they cover all aspects of wooden archery equipment from yew bows to flint arrow tips. Flat bows, decorations, strings and quivers etc. Fine archery to primitive.

5 out of 5 stars As it says on the cover.......2005-08-31

this book is vital to anyone wanting to make a traditional bow!
as it says on the cover"bowyers bible" started 2nd book already and cut myself some bowstaves too.
Only quible is that as an englishman who was born in portsmouth, one of the writers thought the mary rose sank near plymouth!?!?!
(it was portsmouth)but that has nothing to do with the bow making which is clear and concise. a must have book to go with my Hodgkins "archers craft"

4 out of 5 stars necessary for beginning bowyers.......2005-07-03

this book is essential for anyone who wants to make archery tackle out of natural materials. i still go to school and archery has taken hold of my interest. i spent hours on the computer scraping bits of information until i came upon this book online. after reading it through, all my problems were solved. this book has all the basics. from wood choosing to laying out your bow to designing practical bows from all kinds of woods. however, if you are in an area that has plenty of trees but are forbidden to cut it, then you are probably stuck with making board bows (which are cheap at 3.50 for an 11 ft piece) and for more info on board bows, then the 2nd vol. of this series is probably the best.
this book is a very good book for bowyers and got me started and i am still hooked (a year and three broken bows after. apparently the average bowmaker breaks 12 bows before making a good one :)

Book Description

How do animals perceive the world, learn, remember, search for food or mates, and find their way around? Do any non-human animals count, imitate one another, use a language, or think as we do? What use is cognition in nature and how might it have evolved? Historically, research on such questions has been fragmented between psychology, where the emphasis has been on theoretical models and lab experiments, and biology, where studies focus on evolution and the adaptive use of perception, learning, and decision-making in the field. Cognition, Evolution and the Study of Behavior integrates research from psychology, behavioral ecology, and ethology in a wide-ranging synthesis of theory and research about animal cognition in the broadest sense, from species-specific adaptations in fish to cognitive mapping in rats and honeybees to theories of mind for chimpanzees. As a major contribution to the emerging discipline of comparative cognition, the book is an invaluable resource for all students and researchers in psychology, zoology, and behavioral neuroscience. It will also interest general readers curious about the details of how and why animals--including humans--process, retain, and use information as they do.

Book Description

Many archers and bowhunters will be surprised to learn that a wooden bow, whose ancestry dates back thousands of years, will shoot an arrow as fast and as effectively as the most modern fiberglass-laminated bows. Never before have such detailed instructions been available for the home craftsman, with information on how to make fine bows and arrows from natural materials. The authors thoroughly explain every facet of the process, from choosing wood to applying finishes, making construction easy even for the first-time bowyer.

With combined experience totaling over a century, the authors have constructed over thousands of bows. Now they reveal their secrets and techniques in The Traditional Bowyer's Bible series, three essential volumes filled with history, humor, and practical advice - invaluable information for anyone interested in the age-old lure of archery.

Volume Three covers tools, Korean and African archery, bows of the Plains Indians, custom shafts, stone points, and much more.

5 out of 5 stars Great Book........2006-10-25

This volume is very explicative and not lost any details of his points. All the volumes makes a great help, and even a single powerfull source of information, to anyone who want to make the finest traditional bows, i recomend !

5 out of 5 stars A highly recommended finish for a great series of books.......2006-08-28

This final volume ( # 3 ) of this series has very useful instructional information concerning bow making tools, take down ( two piece ) bows, stone age bows, stone points ( knapping ), and making arrows. Bow designs from many cultures around the world are examined and explained in detail.
The tools mentioned range from simple hand tools, such as the wood rasp, to power tools, like the band saw. Power tools are not needed to make these bows, but can save time.
Properly made arrows are a very important part of archery gear, and this voulme shows how they are made correctly and safely using a variety of woods and fletchings.
Other chapters explain bow designs such as the asymetrical yumi bow from Japan, the materials for composite bows of Korea, and the hole nocks from some African bows.

3 out of 5 stars Excellent book.......2006-08-15

This was a very excellent book and I ordered the other 2 vol.
These also were very very good. I have enjoyed them very much.
They would be a very good addition to any boyers library.
Very good prices also.

4 out of 5 stars Very in depth and detailed.......2004-03-29

This book was excellent for outlining the process of making bows. Each section of the book is dedicated to a different area of bow making, and therefore was able to cover a substantial amount of ground. This book does require an advanced knowledge of bows and archery.

5 out of 5 stars Love It!.......2007-10-01

This is an excellent picture book - my three year old really loves it. My only "complaint" is that it takes a long time to go through all the pictures and talk about each one making it less than ideal right before bed unless you want to spend 20 minutes on just one book! Seriously though - the book is just wonderful and allows parents to go into whatever level of detail regarding the Noah story as they feel is appropriate for the age of their child. It is a softcover and the pages and cover are not of the highest quality - it would be lovely to have in hardcover with larger pages.

5 out of 5 stars Pictures worth a thousand words..........2006-07-12

This book really does not need any words. It is so well illustrated that you can understand every part of the story. His detailing is stunning. Every time we read this book, we find new details. This is the best book of Noah's ark story!

5 out of 5 stars Peter Spier's Children's Classic.......2005-10-11

Artist and author Peter Spier, provides books that can inspire, entertain and educate both the mind of children and adults alike. His intricate drawings are full of detail and his choice of topics always serve to spark curiosity and focus youth on stories that will last with them their entire lives.

Noah's Ark is one of Mr.Spier's best known works, a definate classic, yet I would encourage parents to seek his many other titles as well. "We the People", "People", "Bored nothing to do" etc.

Growing up in Shoreham, New York where Mr Spier resides, certainly was good fortune as I was able to be introduced to the works of this world class story teller and artist. Mr.Spier's works inspired me as a youngster and are books I will pass on to my own children. We could use more of such thoughtful and inspiring children's material. You cannot go wrong with any of Mr Spier's titles.

5 out of 5 stars noahs ark.......2005-05-04

This picture book starts with a rhyme and then is all pictures that sequence what getting ready for the great flood and life on the ark would have been like. It is a winner of the Caldecott Medal, and for good reason because of the detailed illustrations.
The content is appropriate and would be enjoyable for all ages. It will appeal to kids because of all the animals and adults will appreciate the detailed intricate drawings. The book mostly takes place on the Ark and in the time leading up to the flood. The book could be slightly stereo typical because Noah and his family are white and they were probably not white. There is only one page with text on it and it has a poem. It is a very good poem that had been translated from German. The theme of the story is sequential and easy to tell what is going on.
The illustrations are the story. They follow the poem because the poem talks about the story, which is in the Bible. The pictures are very detailed and seem to be accurate from what the story tells. It gives insight into a glamorized event.
The pictures look like they could be colored pencil and watercolors or oil paints. Spier has used lines to illustrate the rain but they are very interesting. There are a couple of pages that are just the Ark and the water. It is very inspiring.
The book size is appropriate to the picture. It gave ample room for illustrations and was able to make them big enough to see the details. There was no cover work on the book. The first page of the book explains why Noah was picked and is very insightful as well. The end page shows the promise of the rainbow and hope of the land being rebuilt and planted. The paper is durable and the book is a hard cover.
Overall, the book is very creative. Mr. Spier has done other very creative artwork and illustrations. This book would be a good addition to every child's library of books.

4 out of 5 stars The weather started getting rough, the tiny ship was tossed.......2004-06-17

A far peppier illustrated version of the tale of Noah's Ark than I've encountered before. On picking up this book I was greatly afraid that perhaps I'd be reading some dour staid careful accounting of the exact facts surrounding Noah, his ark, and the animals that stayed on it. Instead, I was somewhat relieved to find that this was a rather cheery offering. Here, wry wit and realism pop up in the most unexpected of placed. To my mind, there is no story so great that a little humor can't make it even better. "Noah's Ark" backs up this belief.

We begin with the oddest of two page spreads. On the left page, in the distance, we see an army marching away from a burning city. Along the side of the road, men and cows have been indiscriminately slaughtered, and they lie in small pools of blood in a dead burnt field. On the right page, Noah is tenderly harvesting his grapes. A single shaft of light illuminates him and in the distance we see his house and livestock, awake, alive, and contented. All the text says here is, "...But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord". Thus begins our tale. Slowly (and wordlessly) the ark is built. Opposite a page where Noah's sons are loading up the ark with a host of necessary provisions (things like shoes, hoes, rakes, barrels of food, watering cans, etc.) is "The Flood" by Jacobus Revius (1586-1658). Author Peter Spier has taken the liberty of translating this from the original Dutch, and the poem consists mostly of a listing of the kinds of creatures that boarded the ark. This is the only explanation of plot the book contains. From here on in, "Noah's Ark" is a wordless affair, reminiscent of the books of Anno. We watch as animals are collected and gathered. The floods rise and Noah & Co. deal with the little day-to-day problems of taking care of all the animals in the world. Baby animals are born and, in the end, the ark stops atop a mountain and the world begins anew. The final words in this story are placed against a scene of animals grazing once more under a beautiful rainbow in the sky. As Noah works in the field it reads, "...and he planted a vineyard". So it goes.

The humor is evident right from the start. I knew I was in good hands when I saw an imperial Noah shoo away a flock of bees from a hive. Only two fly inside. There's a donkey that refuses to be coaxed inwards as well. Best of all, the shot of Noah mucking out the animals' stables (a large job in and of itself). Spier chooses to separate his scenes with moments of quiet reflection. A mélange of animal and Noah pics is followed by a two page blue and white spread that contains a tiny silhouetted ark on the distant seas. There are a couple sad moments in this book as well. No child is going to enjoy the shot of the extraneous animals standing morosely outside the now full ark. As the water rises the animals disappear from view, obviously drowned. It's a touch dark.

All in all, this is a fine piece of work. There is a dearth of quality wordless picture books out there. To find something as beautiful to look at and pleasurable to glance through as Spier's, "Noah's Ark", is a rare treat indeed. All at once tender and detailed, colorful and creative, it's a sure fire favorite for any kid with a yen for a good story. This book is certain to retain its status as beloved of adults and children alike.

Praise

“People and dogs have a simple, unwritten contract: The dog provides the devotion, love, companionship and work while we accept the responsibility of providing food, water, shelter, healthcare in life and death, and hopefully some love in return. Unfortunately, we as people often fall short. Dogs rarely do. Tracie Hotchner has written a book that will help us keep up our side of the bargain.”
--Dr. Barry C. Browning, B.V.M. & S., M.R.C.V.S.

“I believe Ms. Hotchner was a dog in a previous life. Her perspective is that detailed and complete. Since I speak "dog" fluently and converse with my three canines, Lucy, Henry and the "diva" Frances, we have agreed that it is the finest book about dogs ever written.”
-Jamie Lee Curtis

“My three dogs, Veronica, Lulu, and Max, are all barking, `Finally! The book we've all been waiting for!' Everything you've ever wanted or needed to know about your dog is in here. Hooray!”
-Joan Rivers

5 out of 5 stars The BEST!!!.......2006-09-21

I LOVE the Dog Bible. It actually is a means to calm down, get control of our human emotions and realize that the stress we are feeling is normal; that our pets are our kids; that we need to love them & realize that WE must learn to communicate BETTER. Bless the author for this fabulous insight into man's best friend.

5 out of 5 stars Very Helpful Book.......2006-08-27

The Dog Bible is a very complete, easy to follow guide to all things dog. It proved very helpful in training my family's willful Pomeranian puppy, and I plan on using it to train my own puppy. An excellent value!

1 out of 5 stars she's an expert on being an expert!.......2006-07-22

This is the same author, childless herself, who has sold many copies of her books about having a baby, with the same kind of know-it-all authority and poor advice based on absolutely nothing. Hotchner has no credentials, and she also has no real insights or tremendously thoughtful or original points to make about raising and training dogs, which would in fact be credential enough. She has some very silly ideas about dog nutrition and lots of other dubious and wrongheaded advice on training, and she does like to talk about herself. She is a true dog lover, it seems, and her advice is probably a bit more sound than her baby advice was in the past, but why buy this particular book?

5 out of 5 stars Latest, Greatest.......2006-05-06

Each time I go to use my Dog Bible as reference, I get lost in it, following threads of interest. Enjoying all the latest info, and the author's opinions on subjects from behavior and specific breeds to debate on vaccination. Even dog people who believe in their good understanding (or maybe especially those) of what makes a dog tick, will find a useful perspective in this book! Everyone with or without dogs should have access to the Dogs and Children chapter and Scooby's rules for kids.

1 out of 5 stars For a book that calls itself the Dog Bible, I'm not a believer.......2006-04-29

Any book that insinuates that people that own pit bull type dogs (APBTs, Staffies, etc) are either macho, are unintentionally trying to put their families at risk, or just plain criminal gets a thumb down from me. Furthermore, any author who seems to have very few credentials in dog behavior (she's not a vet, a behaviorist, a trainer, or a biologist) and ostensibly calls her book the Dog Bible and actually believes that the majority of pit bull attacks were seemingly unprovoked either a) has no idea about dog behavior and knows the other factors going into any dog attacks (pit bull or not) and/or b) is foolish enough to believe the media pot stirring over these dogs is just plain stupid or maybe secretly afraid of these dogs. I don't own a pit bull myself, but I have a Belgian Malinois and a Siberian husky/Rottweiler mix. I appologize to Ms. Hotchner for not owning a dog that's a shrinking violet. Sorry, I'm surely I'm up to no good.

This book was one of the most meaningful books I have ever read ! It is a book which will give you a real perspective on life and the roads we travel along the way.It makes a lot of things very clear and helps one to understand the simple ways God works in our lives. I loved it! I bought five copies to share with friends and family.

5 out of 5 stars Hinds' Feet on High Places - Delightfully Illustrated and Arranged for Children.......2007-07-04

Although this publication is arranged for children, those of us in our "mature years" can benefit from these timeless truths. Through analogy, Hannah Hurnard explains pain, sorrow, and difficulties as a necessary part of the Shepherd/King's plan for enabling us to leap through the high places with Him while love is blossoming in our hearts. Sharing this book with those important younger ones in our lives will guide them in accepting with joy and bearing with love while being transformed from a cripple to one with hind's (deer) feet. Much-Afraid becomes Grace and Glory.

5 out of 5 stars Hind's Feet on High Places.......2007-07-03

This book was outstanding to me! I could not put it down. Personaly my life was filled with so much fear, that I could really relate to the main charachter's battle in trying to overcome it. The results of her adventure is so true, her whole world changes, she begins to see life with new eyes. I highly recommend this book.

4 out of 5 stars Get Ya Through A Rough Time.......2007-05-13

This is one of my favorite books of all times. This book was given to me about 14 years ago when I was going through my divorce and I was about as low as I could get-I felt like I was worthless and nobody loved me. It really helped me get through a rough time, pick myself up and realize I was not alone. I realized what a wonderful person I was, always was and always will be. Since then I have passed the book along to probably a dozen or more people and they all have said the same for this little book. When I am down, I pick it up and read it again (parts or all of it). It is really an inspirational book for anyone. Highly recommend this book!
