Amazon.com Audiobook Review
Caroline Myss, who's billed as "America's Leading Medical Intuitive," explores the connections between mind, body, and spirit by defining how stress and emotion contribute to disease, suggesting ways to harness our inherent spiritual powers and ultimately giving hope to patients whose illnesses have failed to respond to conventional treatment. This collection contains three of her most popular titles: Spiritual Madness, Spiritual Power, Spiritual Practice, and Why People Don't Heal. In each, she explores the relationship between ancient notions of a human energy system and modern scientific study on how thoughts influence our bodies and our lives.
Book Description
The work of Dr. Caroline Myss bridges our ancient understanding of the human energy system - the chakras - and current scientific study of how our thoughts influence our bodies and our lives. Now on compact disc for the first time, The Caroline Myss Audio Collection brings together her most popular original audio sessions into one convenient resource. Complete with a 27-page study guide, this new edition includes three classic sessions: Why People Don't Heal - The original underground audio classic by Dr. Myss that uncovers the hidden obstacles to wellness and how to overcome them; Spiritual Power, Spiritual Practice - Listeners join Dr. Myss as she explores the prayers and reflections that guide her own daily practice. Includes morning and evening meditations; and Spiritual Madness - Dr. Myss describes the path of the modern mystic, and the passage through the "dark night of the soul" unique to our times. Includes many exercises and prayers.

Great collection!.......2006-11-10
We used to have a few of these on cassette tapes, but some of them self-destructed, and those that survived can no longer be played in a car that lacks a cassette player. That makes these CDs invaluable - they can even be transferred into our ipod. This is a great collection of Caroline Myss's sane and fabulous thoughts. She is so sensible and soothing. We recommend it without reservation.
Caroline Myss Audio Collection.......2006-11-06
I just love these CD's. I was asked to purchase Spiritual Madness by a counselor, but when I found the three collection series, I decided to purchase all three. I listen to them non-stop and find I am applying so many of Caroline's practices into my daily living. Sometimes when I play them I wonder "I've never heard that before" even though I know I've listened to the CD's through and through. But you hear different things at different times and have to be patient with yourself. After just having a difficult time with illness, myself, these tapes helped me thorough the illness with peace and understanding that something was just working itself out in my body and I tried to work with the illness as opposed to fighting it. These tapes are invaluable to me.
The Caroline Myss Audio Collection: Spiritual Power, Spiritual Practice/ Who People Don't Heal/ Spiritual Madness.......2006-03-26
This collection, by Caroline Myss, has been an awesome experience: one that has caused me to grow mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. I now experience peace and contentment in a greater abundance. I no longer operate in fear. I practice staying in the moment. I willingly face my shadow and am not afraid of the lessons to be learned because of my confrontation with my inner self. This series is one that I listen to over and over again, without becoming weary of the new found messages that I receive. I'm letting go of my expectations of myself, God and others. I'm grateful for this encounter
Excellent Program!.......2003-03-15
I bought a second one and gave it to a friend who's recovering from cancer, and she loves it! It really brought to light to me how I can be in charge of my life, as pulling all my energies into the present, and away from useless wastes of that energy. These CD's are teaching me how to be close with the divine, without all the associated dogma of my Catholic beginnings.
Caroline Myss audio collection.......2000-04-17
Originaly I bought this audio set to use the daily meditations, however I find the other two tapes are the ones I use most often. Onthe meditation tape some of Carolines wording is too harsh for me and so the tape has been very helpful as a guide for me to create my own daily 'program'. I work at a job that allows me to listen to audio tapes (with earphones on) and I use Carolines tapes often. They give me broader insights into daily life and the wacky world of work. Two of Carolines (true) stories always inspire me. They are from the life of David C. Paladin, a man who went through a living hell and was forced to save himself in an amazing way. The other person had his everyday world crumble in one cataclysmic day and found his way into a life he couldn't have dreamed big enough to imagine! END
Book Description
Now on CD, this classic session with Caroline Myss describes a contemporary path open to all who seek direct mystical experience. Modern mystics are faced with conflicts no medieval monk ever faced, Myss says, leading to a "dark night" unique to our age, and a deep and rich "madness" that is an inescapable part of the mystical journey today. Join the bestselling author of Sacred Contracts as she uncovers the roots of mystical experience, both ancient and modern, and reveals: The true reason we invite God into our lives, why spiritual intimacy can lead to chaos, how mystical experience translates into everyday life in our time, a way to end spiritual confusion with a simple, honest prayer , and plus many self-teaching exercises and practices.

Excellent, Fresh, and Incredibly Valuable.......2007-04-16
Caroline Myss hits the bullseye with this audio CD. No other lecture and information (that I've ever been exposed to) deals with the topic of "spiritual crisis" as this does! Timely, provocative, and a real life-saver. This spoke to me in volumes. I feel honored to have this as a resource.
A Lifesaver for Those in Spiritual Crisis.......2003-11-09
At a time in my life when I was going through a serious spiritual crisis, a real "Dark Night of the Soul," listening to this audiotape of a lecture given by the author proved to be a turning point for me.
This material is incredibly powerful and it takes more than one listen to begin to really absorb it all. Caroline Myss pulls no punches here. Some of her statements made me very uncomfortable, but that's when I knew I had to keep listening. Just knowing that the emotional pain and suffering I was experiencing wasn't mere "depression" but came from my desire to really change my life actually turned out to be a comfort to me.
She asks you to think about some hard questions, but also gives you practical advice on how to deal with the chaos you're experiencing. This is not a light weight "feel good" lecture, but for anyone who is really ready to take a close and honest look at their "stuff," it is truly life changing. It doesn't feel good to be in that dark place, but it does feel good to know that you are not crazy - you're in the midst of "spiritual madness."
Our culture has little to offer people in this kind of crisis. Sometimes we need some tough and honest talk about the dark side of life that few seem willing to face. This tape really opened my eyes and showed me that I had to surrender my ego's ideas of how my life should be and accept God's plan for my life instead.
Now it's some years later and I'm out of that darkness and into the light of a happy and fulfilling life, married to the soulmate that I despaired of ever finding back then.
This tape is deep and full of wisdom and truth for those who are brave enough to take it in and use it. If that sounds like you, then I highly recommend it.
What does this mean?.......2003-05-09
Caroline Myss does have some spiritual insights to share, but in this rambling, impromptu talk she often sounds like she is a little tired and fed up, and is chiding us. She also keeps bringing up the question "what does this mean?" as if she is about to explain a term she is talking about, but then fails to do so. Not the most inspiring.
Book Description
The Collected Works of Chögyam Trungpa brings together in eight volumes the writings of one of the first and most influential and inspirational Tibetan teachers to present Buddhism in the West. Organized by theme, the collection includes full-length books as well as articles, seminar transcripts, poems, plays, and interviews, many of which have never before been available in book form. From memoirs of his escape from Chinese-occupied Tibet to insightful discussions of psychology, mind, and meditation; from original verse and calligraphy to the esoteric lore of tantric Buddhismâthe impressive range of Trungpa's vision, talents, and teachings is showcased in this landmark series. Volume Six contains advanced teachings on the nature of mind and tantric experiences. Chögyam Trungpa's commentary on the Tibetan Book of the Dead explains what this classic text teaches about human psychology. Transcending Madness presents a unique view of the Tibetan concept of bardo. Orderly Chaos explains the inner meaning of the mandala. Secret Beyond Thought presents teachings on the five chakras and the four karmas. Glimpses of Space consists of two seminars: "The Feminine Principle" and "Evam." In the article "Femininity," the author presents a playful look at the role of feminine energy in Buddhist teachings. "The Bardo," based on teachings given in England in the 1960s, has not been available in published form for many years.
Book Description
Holy Madness explores the religious phenomenon referred to as crazy wisdom -- the purposefully outrageous, conventiondestroying behavior of spiritual adepts in every great tradition, from Christian Fools for Christ through the Sufi Path of Blame, to the charismatic leaders of new religions. The author explores the core of the spiritual process through eight critical indepth cameos of holy madness in action in the lives of eight contemporaries, including Chgyam Trungpa, Bhagwan Rajneesh and Aleister Crowley. This revised and expanded edition includes a new assessment of the American guru Adi Da (formerly Da Free John) and the psychopathology of blind faith, using the example of Shoko Asahara (founder of Japan's infamous terrorist sect AUM). The author offers guidelines for choosing a wise, enlightened guide or guru, and tips for avoiding the exploitative.

Holy Madness-Wisdom Teachers.......2007-01-15
I bought two copies of this book- one to lend out and one as a christmas gift. It is a book which has been well researched and written. It explores the subject of those master teachers who use outrageous methods to bring those they meet to enlightenment. There is a long tradition in every culture of these types of teachers. They teach singularity in a unique way. They take your mind beyond the concepts of good and evil-beyond judgment of yourself and others. This book presents a comprehensive overview of these teachers and their methods.

Rambling Nonsense.......2007-05-13
This book was a complete disappointment. I was expecting a coherent explanation of the theological progression of the Heaven's Gate Cult. I was hoping especially for a discussion about the cycle of disillusionment and revitalization that occurred in the cult's history. What I got was a rambling series of non sequiturs trying to relate the cult to every mythological tidbit on the planet. I found myself skipping pages while the author would go off on some strange tangent. You know how some people cannot tell a story because they keep getting distracted. This was it. It's like the author had swallowed Joseph Campbell's collected works put them in a blender and poured it out. If a book ever needed an editor. This was it. Most of the time I donate books to libraries or thrift stores when I am finished with them. I am chucking this one into the recycle bin. Don't waste your money.

A Major New Poet Enters the English Language.......2004-03-25
I have had the exceptional good fortune of knowing the poet, Darshan Singh. He was the most extraordinary man I ever met. His poetry sings from the heart the sweetest, saddest songs of yearning, love, and restless separation. And yet, perhaps because he has been down a path that we all, sooner or later, seem destined to travel, his verse is consoling. I for one find great comfort in his restless cadences, his literary companionship. He once remarked that poetry is the music of the soul, and so his seems to be. No matter the conventions, his verse comes from some other place, beyond human time, in the world of mysticism. The often-elaborate metaphors he introduces pull us into ourselves. Yet, throughout, the language is simple, the verse accessible. His point of view is centered and profound. He writes from revelation.
Darshan Singh often said don't write unless you have something new to say, or a new way of saying it. Here he has met his own challenge. This poetry brings something new to western culture. Through the efforts of translators Lerner and Bedi, we have in verse dramatizations of the archetype of separation and reunion: the love of God for all creation, the grief of God at our spearation from that love, and the reciprocating desire of each awakening soul to find its way back home to the Creator. In these verses, the archetype plays out in relationships of lovers and beloved. the central conceit is that the love of God, divinity itself, grace, in its essence, is transmitted from beloved to lover through the eyes, and is given, in accordance with the will of the beloved, when and if the beloved sees fit, and at the beloved's own initiative. The poor lover sues and waits, and suffers, but never complains. Such is the lover's plight. And at the end, after many promises, and much playing and teasing, at the end, it is by grace that the lover has caught the zeal of the beloved and is transformed, miracle of miracles, into the beloved. The soul is not separate from God, the verse seems to say. But the soul fired with love is the luckiest creature alive. That soul wins the prize.
Truly, this book is a wonder, a gift from a far-distant shore.
A Love Gone Wild.......2002-02-05
I laughed and cried over Love's Last Madness. I have long admired the poems of Darshan Singh even though only a limited number had been translated into English. Now, the Lerner and Bedi translation brings 86 of his wonderful ghazals to us in English for the first time. As in the poetry of Hafiz and Rumi, image after startling image evokes the moods and struggles of a serious mystic traveler.
While reading, I sharply felt Darshan's sense of urgency as he struggles into awakening consciousness. He says:
"If only I'd awaken, I'd perceive what this life means;
My existence now, an obsessive confusion of dreams." (4:4)
I sighed with him as he sees the world falling short of expectation. Darshan's perceptive criticisms do not spare the social institutions, both religious and philosophical, from which he turns his face. For example:
"I, too, walked the path explored by the rationalists:
The wayfarers were half asleep, their guides wandering lost." (8:3)
I shared his empathy with despairing humanity, entangled in delusion:
"Every hour is grief, each breath a sigh for the times -
Am I really living or paying for some crime?" (21:1)
I thrilled with him as he glimpses the faces of those who may guide him into reality:
"They were clothed in poverty, as humble as the dust,
But waiting at their door I saw the sovereigns of the age." (7:1)
I agonized with him as he suffers the transforming blows and testing of his guides. For this subject Darshan often uses imagery of worldly love:
"How unexpected is your visit - and to ask of my condition!
What new ingenious torture prompts you, my dear?" (83:4)
I took heart as Darshan hints at the great turning points of the mystic's immense journey. One such landmark is the transcendence of mind:
"Every mote I saw scintillating with your beauty
In a world where intellect stands bewildered." (18:4)
Another landmark is the transcendence of selfhood or ego. I could share his apprehension at the prospect of loss of self, and I vicariously exulted with him in his freedom from it:
"Of self I lost awareness, so life's secret was revealed,
A boon of my oblivion, not the fruit of my wits." (60:7)
Through Darshan's poetry I saw through an intimate window into the mind and heart of a man of our own time who deeply immersed himself in the spiritual quest. This is the record of "the anguished vigil of a love gone wild...." (22:5)
Exquisite!.......2002-01-16
Having great respect for the works of the renowned mystic Urdu poet Darshan Singh, this newly translated collection was purchased with anticipation. Thankfully, I was not disappointed. The book is high quality, with artistic formatting. And the verses of Darshan Singh? Goodness--such beauty! They move me to tears on each re-reading. It is said that translation from Urdu to English is fraught with problems and a true rendering basically impossible. Even with that as an accepted fact, any lover of mystic poetry will be enthralled by this collection.

Customer Reviews:
Penetrating and impeccable........1999-05-08
This is a penetrating and impeccable book, and it's a shame that it's out of print. The author's comments above are a start at the necessary postscript addressing the controversies of the last ten years; it remains, however, a gift of rare integrity and objectivity from personal experience.
Important issues & info; misleading spiritual viewpoint........1999-02-07
This book talks about important issues but, to my mind, suffers from a terrible blindness to abuses both subtle and blatant. The author does recognize that many observers willcondemn the antinomian "shock tactics" he thinks are so valuable. He himself seems ambivalent about the more blatant abuses, but mostly he excuses them as necessary in the holy war against "concensus trance", which seems to mean any state of consciousness which opposes cosmic or "oneness" consciousness. Feuerstein's attitude seems to be that the avowed purpose of rascal gurus -- to bestow"enlightenment" on the lazy-minded -- is of such transcendant value that merely mundane ethical values are expendable. This is another version of the end justifying the means. Cult leaders are expert manipulators and "shock tactics" are useful weapons in their arsenal. One might well question the spiritual attainments of gurus who are oblivious to thepsychological reality of personal boundary violations. One might also question the motivation of self-appointed teachers who enjoy giving others "difficult lessons". Victor Frankl, the psychiatrist, learned some very difficult (and valuable) lessons from his enforced stay in the NAZI concentration camps. Are we to conclude, then, that his captors were his benefactors? It is useful to have a long recitation of the many abuses perpetrated by gurus over the years. Read them and weep, not least for the author's blindness. Let me give examples: One Zen Master gives his disciple a koan to solve. A koan is a verbal puzzle not soluable by rational thought. Its purpose in Zen ideology is to force the student to abandon reasoning, which is devalued by Zen, and snap into a state of awareness valued by Zen, namely "satori" or enlightenment. This particular koan was: "Stop the train from Tokyo." The disciple wrestled with the koan for weeks. Finally his frustration led to what I would guess was despair. In an ironic suicidal gesture, he obeyed literally the koan's injunction; he laid his body on the tracks and was killed by a train. Feuerstein's remarkable comment on this tragedy is the glimmer of hope that the poor fellow may have attained enlightenment in the seconds before the train smashed into him! No mention of the Zen Master's insensitivity to his disciple's state of mind, nor any thought that an overly brutal teaching method might be partly at fault. This is an example of valuing transcendance over worldliness, a cruel result of what Alice Miller has called "salvational ideology". It was particularly painful to read the account of a young husband whose wife was sexually seduced by the guru Adi Da, after the guru befuddled the husband by getting him drunk. The husband has a vague sense that he has been wronged, but is focused on the lesser issue of his sobriety being violated. He is still asleep to the greater violation because he is still deluded by the guru's claim to perfection and holiness. Surely the selfless guru is teaching his disciple a valuable lesson in giving up attachment [attachment to his wife, no less!] Surely that has to be the explanation, ....doesn't it? Since Feuerstein pooh-poohs the idea of mind control, he is blind to the power relationship operating here, a kind of confidence game that can lead to spiritual slavery. The guru mind-rapes the husband in order to sexually use the wife. I pray for this man's deliverance from domination by his guru, but I pity the pain and rage that will likely accompany the dawning of the truth. To his credit, Feuerstein is at least trying to grapple with the troubling manifestations of religion's incestuous and confusing love affair with obedience and authority. I believe his worldview suffers from the hidden dualism so well explained by Kramer and Alstad in "The Guru Papers: Masks of Authoritarian Power", which I recommend highly as a useful antidote to the present book.
Another arm chair psychoanalytic viewpoint expressed.......1998-04-28
The author seemed to be analyzing the subject matter from a seemingly armchair analytic point of view rather than allowing the reader to explore the odd behavior of these spiritual individuals and come to our own conclusions. I would have preferred not to have the author pose his hypothesis as to why these individuals do what they do in that who is he to judge such "crazy behavior" if he himself is not "Enlightened"!
