In The Four Agreements, Mexican shaman Miquel Ruiz built his teachings around four agreements: be impeccable with your word; don't take anything personally; don't make assumptions; always do your best. Now Ruiz offers readers a companion guide, making practical mysticism out of the ancient Toltec tradition. On the one hand this is an eloquent introduction to Toltec teachings, offering a fascinating discussion of how one's life is a dream (and a dream that's often dictated by others) and how "domestication" is the root of human suffering. On the other hand don Miquel has also written a Toltec self-help book, offering specific tools, exercises, and suggestions to help readers live their own dreams, become more attentive, and make conscious agreements with themselves. For readers who feel aligned with the Toltec tradition, this will certainly be a powerful ally as they begin the dream of transformation. --Gail Hudson

The Four Agreements Companion Book : Using the Four Agreements to Master the Dream of Your Life.......2007-08-24
This DEElightful book clarifies everything in the "Four Agreements" book, simplifing and making it much easier to remember what was learned...
I can't say enough to entice the reader into having this companion book, it's a must have...Rob Ward
Overkill.......2007-07-02
While I absolutely love the four agreements and return to the original book often, I found the companion book to be completely unnecessary. The writing style was poor and rambled in circles, constantly repeating itself. There was no new information at all. I seemed to me to be a way to get a little more money out of the concept - shocking considering the author.
I did enjoy the last few pages of personal examples from people who had incorporated the four agreements into their lives.
If you have the four agreements original book, you don't need this one and if you don't then skip this one and get the original.
Live life by the 4 agreements.......2007-05-14
My life was simplified by reading this book. It is a daily guide for me and my children now. Ruiz is a healer and a spiritual guide. Recommended for all ages.
A Practical Guide to Help Us Decode Our Emotional Garbage.......2004-08-26
After reading The Four Agreements, I felt that it is great to learn the four agreements ¡V be impeccable with your word, don¡¦t take anything personally, don¡¦t make assumptions and always try your best. However, that book did not have enough practical ideas or skills to guide me decode our old agreements/emotional garbage, how to be aware and how to transform. This book has a practical guide to teach us how to live in the four agreements. It teaches us how to become aware and how to transform.
1. Bring the Awareness to Surface so We Can Let Go of the Parasites, the Old Agreement, the Judge, the Victim, the fear
2. How to transform by the second attention (become aware and not act on or judge too fast), action-reaction, attach-detach
Don Miguel Ruiz has a very playful style of writing when he was telling us the above skills. I think in essence, the above skills suggests us to slow down our thinking process to give us enough time to steer our feelings and actions to apply the four agreements and to enjoy life intensely within the moment. His dialogue about the four agreements and other people¡¦s stories about applying the four agreements give me hope that I can live my life with what he has suggested. The dialogue helps us to decode certain emotional garbage and the dialogue helps me to break the old agreements. It is definitely a must-read if you have read the four agreements. Again, reading is not enough. However, putting the new adopted philosophies into everyday¡¦s life is the way to turn the dream of hell to become the dream of heaven.
A Must Have!.......2003-01-17
Anyone who has read his first book will definitely want to read this one as well. This book actually helps the reader to implement the Four Agreements into daily life. Very insightful and I wish I had read it forty years ago!

Book Description
Fulfill your dreams...
Chicken Soup for the Entrepreneur's Soul is a compilation of short stories from entrepreneurs, both large and small, who share their experiences of success, failure and courage, with a little helpful advice mixed in.
Many of these stories, told for the first time here, will enlighten you to new methods of entrepreneurship or simply help you believe in the possibilities of getting started. People such as Doris Christopher, a stay-at-home mother, introduced her love of cooking to others, thus founding The Pampered Chef; sticking to his instincts and putting value at the core of his business, Tom Chappell, founder of Tom's of Maine, explains how success can go way beyond the balance sheet; and Carol Gardner intimately shares a desperate time of debt and divorce, until along came a bulldog named Zelda, followed by a greeting card line - Zelda Wisdom - which became one of Hallmark's number one sellers. These entrepreneurs and many more will inspire you with their amazing life experiences and fascinating beginnings.

Awesome & Life Changing!.......2007-05-07
This book, as well as the author have literally changed my life in positive ways I neevr deemed possible. I am so grateful for the book and for the wise words of Jack Canfield. He and his writings inspire and encourage me as well as give me hope for the future of our world!
LEARN, ENJOY, AND GET INSPIRED.......2007-01-19
A great book written by a combination of Entrepreneurs themselves, and authors to whom they told their stories. The stories are short - allowing the inclusion of many - of all kinds, sizes, phases of development, and types of "lessons learned", as well as place for you to write your own notes and reminders. You will want to go back to many (their websites are provided with brief comments at the end of each chapter)- so do not borrow your copy to friends! The excitement, the challenges, and the "I-can-not-possibly-want-to-do-anything-else" of Entrepreneurship comes through strongly. Learn, Enjoy, and get inspired!
Chicken Soup Entrepreneur.......2007-01-19
I enjoy inspirational books and really enjoyed short excerpts of so many successful individuals.
Inspirational Read.......2006-09-25
"Chicken Soup" delivers once again. This book is a testament to the rewards possible through hard work, strength of character and unwavering faith in a dream. The stories are inspirational and showcase great examples of good ol' American ingenuity. It's a real winner!
Entrepreneur's Soul.......2006-09-14
As an Entrepreneur myself, this book is like a bible to me. To read about very successful people who didn't take no for an answer or realized what their passion is and stuck with it inspires me to not quit when business gets tough. I rocommend this book to anyone looking for the daily pick-me-ups that anyone in business for themselves needs. Well done!

There was a time when author Marc Ian Barasch (The Healing Path) treated dreams as "nocturnal reshufflings of the mental deck; as fantasy and wish fulfillment; as psychic leftovers; those emotional coffee grounds and crumbled up impulses toward sex and violence ditched nightly down some inner Disposall." But then the vivid, ominous dreams began in which Barasch saw his neck being probed, tortured, speared, and even removed. Convinced something was terribly wrong, he went to a doctor who eventually confirmed what Barasch's dreams had been telling him: he had thyroid cancer.
That's when Barasch's fascination with the power of dreams began. The result is a breakthrough book that calls upon 15 years of research as well as hundreds of real-life dreams to expertly explore this mysterious frontier. Readers can expect excellent, poetic prose (Barasch is the former editor in chief of New Age Journal) that speaks to the transformative powers within the bizarre, shape-shifting landscape of the dream world. He helps readers see when a dream reveals a personal calling, a warning from a diseased body, or an insight that can help dreamers overcome the wounds or beliefs that hold them back. Barasch reaches far beyond the typical dream analysis into the more ambitious realms of spiritual turning points, personal relationships, and mystical opportunities. For many readers this will be a life-altering book, one that forever shifts the dreamer's approach to dreams as well as the conscious world. --Gail Hudson
Book Description
The Washington Post hails Healing Dreams as "a book as wise and healing as a dream...lucid, brave, and trailblazing." The winner of the Nautilus Award for best psychology book 2001, it invites the reader on an adventure of the soul. It offers a clear, compassionate understanding of what dreams mean, but also poses a daring question: What do our dreams ask of us, and how might we answer? Dr. Gayle Delaney urges, "Read this book if you want to live a bigger, more vivid life." Dr. Larry Dossey calls it "a new standard in the field of dreams...an uncommon joy," and Joan Borysenko calls it "a watershed in the appreciation of the psyche."
Customer Reviews:
A great overview of dreamwork.......2005-02-16
Here's a guy who's really put in the research, not just by reading other people's books but by talking to people, many of them from other cultures (Tibetan, Australian Aboriginal, Native American) - and not just in a one-off interview but in a continuing friendship with several of them.
In addition he has a powerful personal story to tell about his experiences of various kinds of dreamwork, starting from the time when vivid and frightening dreams alerted him to early-stage cancer in his throat.
He is a bit dismissive of lucid dreaming but otherwise I don't have a complaint to make about the book.
Heal Yourself.......2005-02-08
I'm absolutely loving this book! I've had a few healing dreams myself (though not to the extent of Marc Ian Barasch). This book really has helped me with understanding signs, and giving more faith to the information my dreams are trying to get through to me. Very powerful book, I highly recommend it to anyone who is curious about the world of dreaming, or even simply someone who wants to better understand symbolism in their own dreams.
A transformative work!.......2001-07-25
"In his fascinating, well-organized and lucid book, Marc Ian Barasch carries us along with him on a brave night journey through the dream world. He challenges the doubting reader with impressive charts of this realm and logs centuries of prior research and discovery. It is a courageous task, as many of the charts he uses belong to times and value systems that do not conform to Western scientific experimental psychology. If you want your science to be businesslike and hard, or, as William James wrote in his textbook on psychology, the researcher to be "studying the elements of the mental life, dissecting them out from the gross results in which they are embedded, and as far as possible reducing them to quantitative scales," this is not the book for you. Healing Dreams is a book for readers who can let go of preconceptions, immerse themselves in the vast lore of dreams and, above all, can savor stories of other people's experience. That dreams can be precognitive and serve both as warnings and point to cures, comes as no surprise to depth psychologists, who continually heed both the outer and inner realms of their patients' psyches and pay serious attention to their dreams. Nor will it come as a surprise to anyone who writes down and ponders his or her own dreams. We learn just what Barasch wants to share with his reader: that we are much more evolved, interconnected and subtly knowing than our little egos would have us believe. We also come to apprehend that our dreams come in various sizes and levels of importance, and can have a wisdom far beyond the personal ego's. Barasch, the author of The Healing Path and Remarkable Recovery...eagerly enters the imaginal world of dreams in a way that required him to commit the "subversive" act of taking his "dreams seriously -- enough to act on them, to live by them" and thus to obey their teaching "to live truthfully. Right now. And always." ...Barasch, using his own big dreams as an example, separates the healing dream from the more mundane variety. He describes the big dream, or healing dream, as one with "a singular intensity of purpose: to lead us to embrace the contradictions between flesh and spirit, self and other, shadow and light, in the name of wholeness." From here he goes on to explore the vast realm of dreams, packed into 11 chapters that never fail to capture the reader's interest thanks to Barasch's own enthusiasm, his profound research and his poet's eye for the heart of the matter. The chapter "The Dream of the Body" is especially full of intriguing stories, particularly of cancer survivors and the way dreams figured into their healing. It is followed by a survey of "Dreams of Personal Calling," which illumine the struggle to find a vocation in life. A chapter on dreams and how they can help relationships comes next, followed by equally compelling chapters on healing past wounds and on compassionately attending to our own dark, or shadow, sides. The chapters on dreams and spirituality make trail-blazing contributions to dream research. Barasch also offers a remarkable interpretation of Tibetan Buddhism's ancient system of dream yoga as a spiritual practice....[It] differs from New Age-type lucid dreaming, which is characterized by typically Western ego-driven themes and controls and alters what the dream psyche presents rather than developing that material as a means for spiritual growth. The Tibetan dream yoga system subcategorizes dreams into those of events that occurred while still awake but that need more attention; "message" dreams of people alive or dead; dreams showing forgotten parts of one's psyche now emerging into consciousness; symbolic dreams and ones with archetypal content; dreams that contain precognitive elements, omens or warnings, or might otherwise be termed extrasensory; and, finally, radiant dreams of great spiritual teaching or blessing. The spiritual component of the book as well as its sometimes poetic intensity add a depth to a subject that is all too often treated as a sort of parlor game. Healing Dreams, based as it is on over 15 years of research and on a profound personal investigation, is saved from both the Scylla of New Age psychobabble and the Charybdis of a true-believer's pomposity by the quality of the author himself. In these days of journalistic sensationalism and excess, Barasch remains an honest reporter with a respectful tone of gentle inquiry into the mystery of his subject. It is clear that he has grown and deepened along with a book that is as wise and healing as a dream....
Learn to Appreciate the Healing in Dreams.......2001-01-04
In the epilogue to his latest book, Healing dreams: Exploringthe dreams that can transform your life (Riverhead Books) Marc Baraschrelates the story of his editor trying to envision a simple sound-bitepromotion for his book. The editor asked, "How would a healingdream help the average person be effective in their daily lives?"Barasch, was, in his own words, "flummoxed" by thequestion. He had spent years researching the subject, through his owndreams as he dealt with cancer, through interviewing countless peoplewho had received dreams of Great Mysteries, and through in-depthscholarship on the vast spiritual traditions pointing to dreams as achannel by which God might speak and redirect our ignorant andsleepwalking lives into the pursuit of wisdom. Yet the editor wantedsomething simple to explain it all to the consuming public. Baraschsaid he was reminded of the saying that when a thief meets a saint, all he sees is the holy man's pockets. Later, when the editor had adream about struggling to land an extremely large fish, Baraschsuspected that the fellow had finally gotten the idea: dreams, andhealing dreams especially, take us beyond our narrow categories andconcepts into a much larger world. As he puts us, healing dreamsdon't come to make it all better, but to help us live the truth.Iknow from my experience that it is difficult to take a healing dreamand turn it into a nifty formula for rescuing others....
Iappreciate Barasch's new book for the rare and worthy achievementit is: Through beautiful, even poetic language, integrated with thegrounding influence of the facts from the lives of those heinterviewed, he gives us a glimpse of a holy World Order that inspiresus to try to empathize with something that we can not fullyunderstand. In that sense, Barasch's book is the next best thing toa personal encounter with a healing dream itself.Among the varioustypes of healing dreams he explores, he includes his experiences withthe "Dream Helper Ceremony." Perhaps the most far-flungexport from A.R.E.'s summer camp, where it was first invented,Dream Helper involves a group of people volunteering to donate theirdreams to help someone in distress, doing so without knowing inadvance the nature of the person's problem. What began as anattempt to put a spiritual spin on traditional dream telepathyexperiments soon evolved into a potent healing ritual that many peoplehave used to their benefit....On the basis of his dream helperexperience, Barasch draws two important conclusions about healingdreams. First: if you want to have one yourself, offer to have ahealing dream for someone else! That's the closest to a healingdream formula he offers in the entire book. Two: there is some kind ofliving, spiritual fabric that unites all of us with a life beyond thephysical and to which we have a important relationship, acknowledgedor not. Healing dreams, he has discovered, come to pull us back fromthe abyss of isolationism into a more conscious relationship with thatunifying lifeforce. There's more to a saint, in other words, thanwhat can be found in his pockets.
Review by David LaChapelle.......2000-11-08
What we have here is the living yoga of an inquiry that has opened the author, and now the reader, to the interwoven nature of our reality. We are unavoidably called upon to consider the intelligence of the universe. Marc's passionate pursuit of what he was given has taken the rubies of the inner world and held them up for us to marvel at, and become inspired from.
His personal journey has been the alchemical vessel in which the passion of dream knowledge has been fired and made authentic. Reading this book will change the way you go to bed at night, deepening your life with the ongoing adventure of conscious participation in this mysterious universe. It is an invitation to consider that guidance is a gift to all of us, and that when we sleep, we are in fact making a soul journey.
This book is not another self-help book sprung from some modest good intention and hope for fast money. It is a living document of life lived at the edge of fire, bringing back the heat of our inner world in a way that compels us to wake up, and acknowledge the mysteries at work. We are in Marc's debt for the work he has done, for a way has been opened that can deepen all our lives.

Book Description
After 'Hit Man'
The New York Times bestseller Confessions of an Economic Hit Man documents John Perkins’ extraordinary career as a globe-trotting economic hit man. Perkins’ insider’s view leads him to crisis of conscience--to the realization that he must devote himself to work which will foster a world-wide awareness of the sanctity of indigenous peoples, their cultures, and their environments. Perkins’ books demonstrate how the age-old shamanic techniques of some of the world’s most primitive peoples have sparked a revolution in modern concepts about healing, the subconscious, and the powers each of us has to alter individual and communal reality.
Deep in the rain forests and high in the Andes of Ecuador, native shamans teach the age-old technique of dream change, a tradition that has kept the cultures of the Otavalans, Salasacans, and Shuar alive despite centuries of conquest. Now these shamans are turning their wisdom and power to the problem of curing a new kind of illness--that created by the industrial world’s dream of dominating and exploiting nature.
John Perkins tells the story of these remarkable shamans and of the U.S. medical doctors, psychologists, and scientists who have gone with him to learn the techniques of dream change. These shamanic teachings have sparked a revolution in modern concepts about healing, the subconscious, and the powers each of us has to alter individual and communal reality.
Customer Reviews:
A New Way of Viewing the World.......2007-07-06
This book is for those of you who recognize that there is something inherently wrong with the way our society operates. Even if you don't recognize it, this book will shed light on a myriad of problems. We can all learn a few things from indigenous people, and Perkins is a level-headed expert on the subject. Short and easy to follow, this book is a must read!
False and Deceptive -- Doesn't Even Mention Shuar Violence and Head Hunting!.......2007-06-21
This book needs to be labeled fiction and it totally misrepresents the indigenous South Americans about whom he's talking. The native Amazonians he visits have a well-documented history of head hunting and raiding until very recently! These groups survived colonialism because they retreated deep into the rainforest, and because they were extraordinarily violent towards outsiders, other fellow Amazonians, and especially to their own women.
It's insulting that Perkins remakes these indigenous Amazonians into his own hippy, 1960's idealistic view of a nature-loving, dream-centric, egalitarian culture with some special understanding of the world that we can use to remake our own. He neglects to tell anything truthful about the Shuar culture-- and it's tiresome and offensive to have people put their own ideals into some "Wise Indian's" mouth.
The truth is always interesting, and I'm sure Perkins' trippy, drug-induced vision of an eco-friendly imaginary dreamworld could be interesting too. His lie is to conflate the two.
John Perkins is a true teacher.......2007-05-22
I plan to buy ShapeShifting next. This book will change your life and the way you look at things. I know...there are so many books out there that claim to do that as well, but they are nothing compared to this book. Only an intelligent spirital person would read this book, but it is also an easy read. I have the highest respect for John Perkins.
Dreaming it as it is.......2006-07-31
This is a superb rendition of spiritual principles crafted within the context of indigenous cosmology. It reflects broader corollaries that can be assigned to numerous spiritual disciplines world wide and provide a source of inspiration to those who question the nefarious motives of unfettered "development" with all its hideous consequences.
Mr. Perkins utilizes vast personal experience to highlight indigenous wisdom that takes to task our ethnocentric, greed based, industrialized world view that seems designed to ransack planetary resources and exploit the lives of all it can consume. A sad commentary on the foibles of an economic system run amuck, yet, a surprisingly inspirational joy ride through time and space as seen through the eyes of the author.
Highly recommended.
Lacking depth.......2003-05-29
I was very dissapointed by this book. When I bought it I was expecting the book to teach me how to implement shamanic teachings, how to heal, how to dream, how to direct our dreams, how we can change our dream, but instead I read pages and pages of discriptive text. Talks only about Mr. Perkin's travels. It doesn't even give in-depth examples of how people were healed.

Debbie Ford's straightforward, heartfelt style makes an old-fashioned idea seem fresh in The Best Year of Your Life. Her concept of "dream it, plan it, live it" is a detailed version of advice we've all heard about the need for clear plans, firm action and a refusal to be sidetracked--but with her gentle voice and step-by-step suggestions, the message comes across in a new way. In particular, her advice on creating mental snapshots of specific memories provides an excellent new technique for the ages-old concept of living in the moment.
Each of the three short sections include writing activities to help track your own process and short, regular affirmations that, if made part of a daily routine, can assist you in staying the course you plan for yourself. She demands plenty of honesty with yourself, and refuses to allow excuses any room on a regular basis. The result is a refreshing mix of support and toughness that lets you set your own pace as you work to map out your life goals and aim towards acting with what Ford describes as "conscious intent".
A number of stories from her own life and clients are included, and provide inspiration for readers at different stages. The examples cover a wide range, from losing a few pounds and keeping it off to making explosive changes in a relationship or career, and the resource guide that finishes the book is a welcome accompaniment if you're looking for more details on a specific technique references in one of the stories. --Jill Lightner

Many of us spend our days thinking, talking and dreaming about what our lives could be like 'if only ...'. Another year passes by and our dreams remain out of reach. But what if today you discovered that the life you've always wanted is right in front of you, well within your grasp? Are you ready to live it?
Debbie Ford not only answers these questions but offers a proven, practical blueprint for making today – this moment – the beginning of the best year of your life.

A handy primer to keep in reach when times get rough.......2007-02-14
As a male, I was unsure about purchasing this book because it seems Ms. Ford has gained her following by catering to the Lifetime television demographic rather than us ESPN viewers. So when this book turned up as a bargain clearance and the reviews seemed to hint the book was geared to both genders, I went ahead and made the purchase. Overall, I found this book to be a breeze to get through and felt it was right up there in terms of substance and just plain fun when compared to other self-help books I have read.
The book is broken into three main sections as stated in the title. I like the way the author closes each section with suggesting you put in writing how you will implement the ideas she lays out. Of course, putting things in writing is not new. I just think she has broken things down into smaller assignments as compared to the somewhat overwhelming "write down everything you want in life" other self help books tell you to do.
Although Ms. Ford's message is nothing new and it has been proven that reading these self-help books may make you change your behavior patterns for a period of just a few days rather than years, I believe this is one of those books that is good to have around as a reference when you find yourself slipping back to old habits.
The Best Year of Your Life.......2007-01-10
This book allows you to take the action steps you want to take in order to create the changes in your life to manifest The Best Year of Your Life. I am enjoying and sharing the Best Year of My Life with eight other colleagues on a weekly basis. I purchase this book and Kit for my sister, so she can also manifest the Best Year of Her Life in 2007.

A good, practical guide to a happier life........2006-12-30
I love books like this. It's not a lofty, ellusive, preachy book about why we should be happy. The author actually gives practical solutions that we all can apply right away in order to be happier. That is exactly what I did when writing my own book. I love it when (self help) authors come across more like a peer than an "expert". Good job Debbie Ford!
To read it is to love it!.......2006-09-01
There are many who say when opportunity comes, they will take advantage of it. Most will fail. There are a few who say they will make their opportunity, and take advantage of it. Most will succeed. This book exemplifies that "can do" spirit!

Timely reading as a new year approaches .......2005-12-19
Looking to change your ways? Looking for a succinct, encouraging, step by step guide? This book is for you. I could recognize myself in many of the examples. The author divides her book into three sections, dream it, plan it, and live it. I particularly liked the "No-Cookie Zones" chapter; how to recognize when we engage in debilitating behaviors; that when we do, there is no reward. She discusses how goals have to be specific, something different from dreams and ambitions. Ms. Ford emphasizes the need for structure and discipline in planning life changing goals. She also encourages her readers to seize moments in their days, and to live to inspire.

A good supplement.......2007-01-10
I liked this book. By itself it is probably not the best book if you want to learn shamanic techniques. But it is a good supplement to any learning and practice of shamanism. It is more philosophy then practice, but there are some concrete ideas of how to develop your shamanic abilities.
Very psychologically based.......2005-01-20
This is a good book for someone into psychology and who has not read alot about shamanism before. But it is not a work focusing on the mystical or healing side of shamanism. The language is a bit too academic, even clinical, for shamanic work. The author refers to psychological principles and Carl Jung too many times.
If you are interested in Shamanism you should first spend lots of time outdoors connecting with nature. The Book of the Shaman by Nicholas Wood is a great overview if you have not read about shamanism before. If you want more advanced information from books then look to Carlos Castenada or Ted Andrews (Animal-speak, but not the other magical stuff he does). Serge Khali King's Urban Shaman is worth a read as well. Woman Who Glows in the Dark by Elena Avila has some great information.
I can't recommend Ingerman or Harner because they are the same school and are a bit rigid related to technique of drumming and are still learning/changing their minds about technique in soul retrieval. I feel that their techiques are dated and not widely influenced by traditional shamanism. I have not found solid 'advanced' Toltec information yet including Don Miguel Ruiz or Theun Mares.
If you are at all interested in Huna (Hawaiin Mysticism) then Fundamentals of Hawaiian Mysticism by Charlotte Berney is the best overview.
Transforming Self via the Energy Body/Shaman's Body.......2004-03-11
Shamans are highly respected indigenous healers who most often have experienced some extraordinairy event that is symbolic of death or which was a true near-death experience which they survived. The experience "changed" them energetically to be more in touch and in tune with "the Unknown" or "the Great Principle of Life". Using myth and symbols they help guide people to develop a "double", a sense of self that is more in touch with their personal energy and personal path in life but which is independent of society, time and space. The shaman helps the person who is seeking to reclaim their 'energy' find their "path of heart" i.e, what is meaningful and important to them , in the midst of chaos and uncontrollable events in life.
A person's 'healing' is intimately connected to their environment and the relationships within that environment.
In essence, it is tracking one's energy and source of power, how it is driven by events and experiences. The seeker on this path is on the quest for self-knowledge which ends ... only upon physical death.
The author, Arnold Mindell, uses the symbols of shamanism in the manner of a psychologist who is facilitating "process work" in a client to attain personal growth. Personal development is the predecessor of everyone who uses the world "healer" or identifies with the role. Growth and learning can not occur without doubt and feelings of inferiority ... these areas need to be recognized and explored. Everyone who journeys into self - discovery becomes one of the following roles/types depending on their life situation, "hunter/warrior", "average man", or "seer". They are all ways of being and none is better than the other. He tells us, "Who becomes which type is not a personal choice ... but who becomes a shaman becomes a matter of dreams and heritage." [Harper San Francisco, c. 1993, p. 78]. This book is about developing the "Shaman's Body" ("Dreaming Body") - which is the name for energy states or altered states of concsiousness that arise as signals, that is body symptoms, feelings, impulses, messages from the environment.
In this book Mindell uses shamansitic terms and experiences from several sources to allow the reader to access more of one's personal energy/power and discover one's personal preferences and develoment for "ways of being". The terms he uses are based on the books by Carlos Casteneda. Mindell uses the words, personal history, path of heart, hunting, dreaming, power, the ally, courage, detachment, sorcery, and path of knowledge, all of which will guide the reader into become more focused and aware. There is "everyday attention" and there is the "second attention". This book is about developing the "second attention" which is the access to the dreaming body. The ultimate goal is to become a "seer', a person who has a fluid and flexible life. It is a person who walks a spiritual path in life. Erika Borsos (erikab93)
Follow your heart............2002-11-10
In THE SHAMAN'S BODY, Arnold Mindell suggests how one might find her path of heart, the path of the dreaming body or shaman. Mindell appears to have spent a good deal of his life to working with patients in comas, and/or near death, and others, and in this book he shares some of the experiences that shaped his "reality" or consciousness. Whether you believe one can be a shaman or not, his story is amazing and a great read.
Mindell suggests most people never leave the world of consensus reality--the `ordinary' world. In an age when a plethora of amusements and diversions entertain and/or numb reflective consciousness, the path of heart appears (if it appears at all) as a weird activity at best and downright dangerous at worst. Most folks are terribly unhappy if their world view or version of reality is threatened by conflicting information and so they avoid it where possible. And yet, as one moves through life beliefs continue to be challenged. As one approaches death, a new reality begins to form. The way of the shaman involves suffering. Most of us try to avoid suffering, but no one succeeds. To be alive is to experience pain. My philosophy is this--if you are going to feel the pain anyway, why not let it work for you?
Mindell is a Jungian psychologist, physicist, and process-oriented therapist and teacher working in Portland Oregon. He and his wife Amy have traveled all over the world to met and interact with traditional healers in Africa and Latin America, gurus in India, Zen monks in the far East, and other folks who walk the path of heart. Mindell relates how he found his heart path in Zurich Switzerland where he went to do physics but ended up studying psychology. One afternoon in a café, he casually engaged in a conversation with a fellow customer. After several months of encountering the same fellow at the same café and spending a pleasant afternoon chatting with him, Mindell discovered the man was Jung's grandson and the current head of the Jung Institute. From there Mindell was led to the teachings of Jung, Castenada's Don Juan, and to find his own heart path.
Everyone of us has a spirit guide or Ally. Sometimes the guide communicates via an inner voice, as was the case for Joan of Arc. Sometimes another individual enters your life and becomes the voice of the Ally. Sometimes, the Ally visits you in a dream. If you choose to do so, you can find your own heart path. This is a great book and I highly recommend it, especially if you work a 12-step program.
Superb Treatment of Secondary Attention & Shamanic Awareness.......2002-06-15
Arnold Mindell is truly a master, and The Shaman's Body is a superb treatment of a phenomenon known as Second Attention, or Secondary Awareness. The premise: flowing as an undercurrent beneath our consensual, obvious and ordinary reality is a compelling dimension of energy that we might called non-ordinary reality, non-obvious reality, or the dreambody. This book investigates this dimension of energy and awareness, not as some new-fangled New Age powder puff concept never brought into an embodied state, but precisely as a potent somatic way of knowing. Drawing upon his experiences with shamans from Native America, Asia, India, and Africa, as well as drawing out parallel themes from such contemporary exponents of shamanic awareness such as Carlos Castaneda, The Shaman's Body is a shamanic presentation of Arnold and Amy Mindell's core work, Dreambody Work--which is truly a powerful and transformative way of being. One section in particular, Dreaming in the City, I found to be truly cutting edge, namely, where shamanism has to go as a practice and tradition if it, and we, are to survive. The healing applications, the concentric empowerment potential, and the transformative implications for our society found within this book are immense. Whether you are a shamanic practitioner, a therapist, an artist, or just a human being seeking to know all the parts of yourself, I recommend this book. I personally have read it a number of times, including one cycle where I would read a section and then enter the city at night while listening to a CD on my headphones called Suspended Memories, Forgotten Gods--a MesoAmerican shamanic trance recording by Steve Roach, Jorge Reyes, and Suso Said. The recording felt almost like the soundtrack to Mindell's wonderful book, and in "dropping in" in this way the insights of The Shaman's Body practically began hopping out of the pavement at me. Track your ally.

Make a Wish, Any Wish!
Engaging, innovative, and fresh, Gahl Sasson's approach to Kabbalah -- the ancient teachings of Jewish mysticism -- integrates mythology, scholarship, and practical exercises for seekers of both material and spiritual gratification. Based on his popular Tree of Life workshops, which incorporate meditation, dreams, and real-life synchronicities with myths, rituals, and philosophies from around the world, A Wish Can Change Your Life provides a universal path to finding and embracing all of life's riches. It teaches readers of every faith and religious background how to use the energies of the Tree of Life -- the blueprint for the creation of the universe -- to fulfill any wish, whether it is for material gain (a new car, a higher salary), personal improvement and pleasure (weight loss, a better job, more intimacy with a partner), or a life-changing message from God.

This book is amazing and easy to use.......2006-02-17
I have been teaching creative expression and manifestation classes and this book really brings the concepts to reality. Most Kabbalah books are hard to understand and complicated. This one is not! The book is a magical journey and should not be done alone. The miracles are so profound you will want someone doing it with you to share your discoveries. The story telling is wonderful and the activities are clear and insightful. I have read this book 5 times or more and I see something new each time. I was so inspired, started teaching workshops around this topic just to say in community and keep the energy going around wishes and dreams fulfilled. Get a copy for yourself and get a copy for a friend, you will love this book.
A must read.......2005-11-26
I loved this book and recommend it to anyone. It is the best book that explains the "Tree of Life" .Everyone I recommend this book to loves it. I met the author of the book Gahl Sasson, he is an amazing person, a knows the subject matter like no other. You have to have this book in your collection.
I love this book.......2004-07-16
I actually tested this and it works. The book is very easy to read and follow. I tested one wish and it's amazing how the Universe responded to my wish by giving me signs of synchronicities. I really believe we must not ignore those omens if they keep occurring. LIfe wants us to achieve our dreams and wishes and if we really want something, the universe will respond and give it more power if it's made of love, appreciation and gratitude. I am grateful that I found this book. :)
A very interesting experience.......2004-03-21
Gahl Sasson is a very wise man mixing the Kabbalah knowledge and myths into an interesting and important blend that made my own dreams come true. This book is most recommended for all people looking for improving their life.

Book Description
In our dreams, all of us are psychic.
-- Robert Moss
Dream True
Change the way you dream...and take control of your destiny
Robert Moss helps countless people live more enriched lives by working with the energy and insight of their dreams and becoming conscious dream journeyers. One of the greatest dreamers of all time was Harriet Tubman, who personally escorted three hundred slaves to freedom along the Underground Railroad. On the eve of the American Civil War, Tubman was guided by specific dreams to safe houses, river crossings, and friendly helpers she had never encountered previously.
As Moss explains, our own dreams run like an Underground Railroad through our lives, offering us paths to creativity, healing, and mutual understanding. He shows us how to dream true the way Harriet Tubman dreamed true: how to dream the future, how to go back inside our dreams to clarify their messages and use the information to make wiser choices, and how to bring through life-helping guidance for others.
Dreaming True explores many levels of dreaming and how we can "dream with the body" in order to stay well. Moss offers simple and practical techniques for working with a dream journal to catch -- and act on -- messages about the distant future and tap into our creative source. He shows us how to dream our way toward a better job, a better relationship, and creative fulfillment.
Presented with Moss' trademark humor and down-to-earth style, Dreaming True helps us rediscover what ancient dreamers knew: through dreaming we can become active co-creators of our future, bringing positive energy and insight from a deeper reality into our physical world.

Dreaming True How to Dream Your Future and Change Your Life for Better.......2006-07-05
The book I needded to understand I can change for better. I can make mistakes and still make something good out of them. I realized that the excitement in life I want to create can be dangerous for me if I am not having best intentions in my heart. I know I can change my environment and my personality for better. I know I can do this! The power is in me and I have to learn how to use it.
The power comes from my dreams, nightmares and all these films of freedom in my mind which are played only for me in the middle of the night.
Must read for shamanic dreamers.......2003-07-25
"Dreaming is undoubtedly the most universal methodology used by shamans for entering shamanic states of consciousness - more common than either ecstatic drumming or psychoactive sacraments - yet there are deplorably few books devoted to the subject of shamanic dreaming...Robert Moss covers a wealth of shamanic dream practices...
Written in a clear, easy-to-read style, this book provides numerous examples of how paranormal dream messages have been used effectively throughout history. For example, Moss relates the inspiring story of Harriet Tubman's gift of dreaming, describing how the famous ex-slave and abolitionist, who personally escorted three hundred slaves to freedom in the North, was frequently guided to safe houses, river crossings and friendly helpers by her precognitive and intuitive dreams.
For those not familiar with Moss' previous books on shamanistic dreamwork, CONSCIOUS DREAMING and DREAMGATES, it is important to note that his theories and practices are heavily influenced by many ancient dream traditions. This volume is peppered with insightful teachings from the Temiar of Malaysia, the Aborigines of Australia, the Tzutujil Maya of Guatemala, and the Mohawk of the Iroquois Confederacy, as well as from the Tibetan Buddhists and ancient Greeks. Some less familiar but equally interesting historical material on Western dream traditions is also provided. For example, Moss mentions the theories of the early Christian bishop of Ptolemais, Synesius of Cyrene (365-414), who wrote a book discussing the usefulness of prophetic, or precognitve dreams, and he discusses the dream philosophy of the great medieval Sufi philosopher Suhrawardi, who mapped out a detailed geography of the dream realms...
In Part One, 'The Art of Dreaming True', Moss devotes seven chapters to describing and exploring the basic varieties of spontaneous dreaming - his term for those dreams that come unsolicited from the dream mind or Higher Self. This section provides a particularly well-informed introduction to the vocabulary and syntax of dreamwork, and it introduces a broad range of dreamwork practices, from simple techniques for recording and understanding dreams to helpful hints on interpreting them throug dream reentry.
In Part Two, 'Seven Levels of Dreaming,' Moss postulates an innovative typology of dreaming...
In Part Three, 'Deeper Dreaming,' Moss explores how dreams may be used to catalyze much-needed changes in society. By providing examples of people who have used dreams to improve work situations and find solutions to social problems, Moss inspires readers to take action and dream new futures. 'We need community dreamers who will promote the well-being of people where they live, in every section of society, and build bridges between them."
Even experienced dreamers can learn a great deal from the countless examples of dreamwork discussed here. In fact, although I consider myself to be a seasoned shamanic dreamer, I found the book interesting, informative and even inspiring. I heartily recommend it as a 'must read' for all shamanic practitioners who do not already utilize dreams as essential parts of their practice."
- Review of "Dreaming True" by Timothy White in SHAMAN'S DRUM, number 59
Not your ordinary reality..........2003-06-17
In Dreaming True, Robert Moss expands his magnificent contribution to dreamers everywhere. He opens up multiple dimensions of dreaming, from practical information to spiritual guidance, physical and emotional healing, all in a way that's accessible, entertaining and inspiring to read.
Through personal experiences, traditional stories from a wide range of cultures, and the teachings of Wise Ones throughout history, he awakens us to the profound role that dreaming plays in every facet of our lives. As the opening line of his preface says, "The common wisdom of most human societies, as far back as we can trace, is that dreaming is central to the human condition." In a world where so many people feel disconnected from their humanness, and certainly from their primal roots, dreaming is a perfectly personalized path to wholeness.
This book offers myriad ways to access the guidance he's talking about. How do you catch and record your dreams so that you can use them? How do you know if you're dreaming the future? What can you do if you foresee disaster? How can dreams enhance your health? How can you transform your nightmares into joyous, healing experiences? Why do the dead appear in our dreams? Can you really change the cellular memory of your body to heal disease? How can you really use your dreaming to create the future you want? Moss deals clearly and explicitly with these issues, and more.
The most fascinating part of the book, to me, was his discussion of the Seven Levels of Dreaming: Dream Recycling (processing the day), Dream Moviemaking (showing us where we are and where our actions are leading), Dreaming with the Body (direct feedback from the physical), Psychic Dreaming (from the shared mind-field), Transpersonal Dreaming (meeting others, living and dead), Sacred Dreaming (encounters with higher beings), and Dreambringing (working on energy and imaginal levels to shape physical reality for the better). This helps me recognize the import of a dream, and gives me a framework for relating it to my growth on every level.
I'll never be without this book in my library.
Buy this book!.......2003-06-14
Dreaming True is about you. It is about your future as you dream it. It is about your life as you change it for the better. All of Robert Moss' writings are good, whether in his other books, Dreamgates or Conscious Dreaming... he addresses life issues. What I like most about Dreaming True is at its heart, the Soul, our dream Soul. Each of us has likely lost parts of it. Whether through trauma, intense humiliation and betrayal - by others or from ourselves, we are left with a yearning. People sense that their life has holes. They long to be creatively fulfilled and to have freedom from despair. Self-numbing works but the zest, the exuberance of and for life is lost. Your dreams, as Robert discusses them, are a way to be engaged with your deepest Self, to embrace your spiritual manifestation in these few days of your life in this realm. Your dreams bring you back to wholeness. This book is about you taking control of your destiny...
twaddle.......2003-06-12
It seems the author of this tome is popular in the new age circuit. Obviously there are those who like him. In some places in his book he is a very likeable character. If this book were edited properly, and all the fluff, helter-skelter babble and infomercial stuff were cut out, it might about 30 pages long, not 383. It is amazing how scattered and superficial it is and how one can write so much and say so little. One wades through miles of new age sentimental slop in this book. It uses the story of Harriet Tubman as its spring board, but one can't help but reflect on how it trivializes and exploits the extraordinary mission of Harriet Tubman for its commercial purposes. Notwithstanding, the author clearly has a good heart. One hopes one day he will find the way to go into depth and write something good, not this mediocre new age fiddle-faddle that wastes ones time to read. The author, it must be said, spins a few good yarns (he seems to be a pretty good story teller) and his overall book structure is good. nonetheless, he repeats certain literary devices with which he ties the different sections of the book together ad nauseum, and then endlessly throws in bits of this and that, quoting this one and that one, which gives one the impression of a barrage of distracting noise. Often one wonders sometimes just what he's trying to say in all that. There is a great deal in thie book that is poorly thought out, not to mention his opinions and personal differences with other writers whom he attacks without reason. It really mars the book. Then he skitters over the surface of his subject, talking around its issues, and paints a warped picture. He forces the subject of psychic dreams, and he doesn't develop it. If the dreamer want's better information in this direction, they would do better to read Cornelius Agrippa's Three Books of Occult Philosophy, published by Llewellyn. The author of this book writes like a scatter brain. Hopefully the so called new age readership will begin demanding books that either are not so superficial.

Book Description
Nexus offers an engaging and insightful journey of an odd mix of people drawn together to a spiritual retreat to overcome personal pain. This book will please readers of spiritual, new age, inspirational, self-help and visionary fiction books. It weaves insights within the narrative like The Celestine Prophecy by James Redfield and The Peaceful Warrior series by Dan Millman.
Starting with a dramatic suicide scene through intimate details of the struggle of Logan Andrews with depression and despair, we are brought on a journey of inner struggle and personal transformation. The reader is transported to a spiritual retreat where the experiences of people at the retreat provide illuminating life lessons. The tone of book creates an authentic journey that is both exploratory and insightful.
The overriding theme in
Nexus is mystical in its nature, narrating experiences of deeper connection felt with one another and all of life. This is poignantly highlighted in key passages, including Logan's empathy for a dying fish in Chapter 6.
Customer Reviews:
Need for Spiritual Change.......2007-07-01
I've read many spiritual books and this one really spoke to me with a story that communicated about both the highs and lows of spiritual life through the touching journey of people at a retreat center. Each person in the story is dealing with their own sorrow from the depression-despair of Logan, Sarah's loss of direction and Muriel's desire to be comforted in her old age. Steven is fixated on his money-making schemes and in order for him to experience growth, he needs to connect to the path of love.
The story speaks of something deeper - a need for spiritual change. It isn't always stated on the surface and you have to dig deeper to recognize that as the central theme of this book. Yet you feel this impulse motivating the communication between teachers and students at the retreat center and the experiences there allude to a deeper bond - to the Nexus that connects us all through our heart where empathy and compassion can grow with experiences of our Oneness. The compassion Logan shows for a dying fish vividly captures this theme. This vision of non-duality is always there beneath the surface though our ego stands in the way of its realization.
The message in this book is beautiful and so I want others to know about it. Through spiritual books like this, we can delve into consciousness transformation and share it with others.
Really Bad. Don't Buy.......2007-06-30
I made the mistake of purchasing this book because it was referenced in a review for The Road (an amazing fiction currently on the best seller list). Now I realize I was probably led into buying it by one of the authors' friends or supporters. The 5 star reviews are bias, to say the least! The dialogue is beyond bad. It is stilted and at times downright silly. I love top quality spiritual writings like "The Power of Now" by E. Tolle or the writings of D. Chopra. It's not that I am spiritually closed, I just know very bad writing when I see it.
This "fiction" is an attempt to flesh out the spiritual teachings of the two authors through poorly crafted, one dimensional characters. I would rather drink flax oil and fast for a week to better my soul than read this kind of stuff. I anticipate receiving some unsupportive votes for this review, and these will likely come from the friends of the authors who have written the 5 star reviews. So be it. I'd rather be honest and save the potential Amazon customer some money!
Thought Provoking.......2007-05-30
NEXUS is an absorbing guide to the dazzling universe of spirituality! Written in the appealing genre of a new age novel I found NEXUS to be a remarkable psychological and spiritual adventure filled with mystery, enchantment, romance, insights, as well as being highly realistic in terms of life's joys and sorrows. I just couldn't put the book down!!!
The diverse assortment of characters were realistic, and the plot was deep, lively and fast paced throughout. NEXUS WORKED AT VERY DEEP LEVELS OF MY MIND TO PENETRATE MY SUBCONSCIOUS AND TO EXPAND AND INSPIRE MY SUPERCONSCIOUS MIND. WHAT AN EXPERIENCE!!!
By carefully reading NEXUS and reflecting on the philosophical insights inherent throughout the book I found that I could tap into my deepest inner centre of being- my inner source of strength, wisdom and compassion...what a discovery!!!
I heard about NEXUS from a friend and that is why I bought the book. I told another friend about NEXUS but she had already just finished reading it and was most impressed.
It seems that people everywhere are suddenly experiencing an intense attraction to NEXUS, one of the most valuable books I've read in a long time.
Another new age novel that I highly recommend is The Saint, the Surfer, and the CEO: A Remarkable Story About Living Your Heart's Desires
Spiritually Uplifting.......2007-05-21
Every once in a while you come across a book that resonates at a deeper soulful level. "Nexus: A Neo Novel" is one of those books that touches you through a spiritual journey of transformation of people in the book. Their transformation is an inner one at the level of their heart and psyche.
For Logan Andrews the transformation requires that he move from negative thoughts and emotions to positive ones. This task is fraught with difficulties, since even at a spiritual retreat intended to help people find the centre of their being called the Nexus, Logan is confronted with his greatest loss as he meets his ex, Sarah.
I really liked the sub-plot with Steven, an arrogant millionaire, who at first is irritating but in time he grows on you and becomes an endearing person. Steven believes that money is the answer to life's problems but has he lost his way?
Even though the writers of "Nexus" have their own unique voice, still this book reminds me of other visionary writers like James Redfield, Carlos Castaneda and Dan Millman. I highly recommend "Nexus" as a deeply moving experience of personal transformation whose message spiritual readers will most appreciate.
Powerful Insights.......2007-04-23
The appeal of "Nexus" lies in an original story that is fast-paced and chock-full of powerful insights. This book is about transformation as an organic process.
The novel is unique as a collaborative effort by two authors who have successfully integrated their writing into an inspiring narrative. This book explores the ups and downs of spiritual life through the journey of people at a spiritual retreat and we can relate their experiences to our own life.
I love this book for its piercing insights and a memorable soulful journey. "Nexus" reminds me of books like "The Celestine Prophecy," "The Life of Pi" and "The Alchemist" - some other books that I've enjoyed reading.
