Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Best of the best!.......2007-05-08

They took James Strong's classic and computer verified the findings. Best match for the KJV for serious bible students.

2 out of 5 stars accurate - not always.......2006-09-30

The point when using any reference book is to expand on understanding and to get the true sense of the subject under study. This "Strongest" Strong's concordance falls short of this, as it apparently uses personal bias in its definitions (and comments), i.e. cross - 'stauros - cross, cross'. Research is for accurate knowledge. I was very disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars Only Concordance Needed!.......2006-02-03

If you are a fan of the NIV Bible then this is the best book to have along with it. This exhaustive concordance has everything you need to study the words in the NIV bible. It includes the Hebrew and Greek dictionaries. This is a must have book for your bible study needs!

4 out of 5 stars Worth the price if you use NIV translation........2005-10-18

The Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek dictionaries are done very well, compared to the old Strong's Concordance I have.

Book Description

Described as an "invaluable reference work" (Classical Philology) and "a tool indispensable for the study of early Christian literature" (Religious Studies Review) in its previous edition, this new updated American edition of Walter Bauer's Wörterbuch zu den Schriften des Neuen Testaments builds on its predecessor's staggering deposit of extraordinary erudition relating to Greek literature from all periods. Including entries for many more words, the new edition also lists more than 25,000 additional references to classical, intertestamental, Early Christian, and modern literature.

In this edition, Frederick W. Danker's broad knowledge of Greco-Roman literature, as well as papyri and epigraphs, provides a more panoramic view of the world of Jesus and the New Testament. Danker has also introduced a more consistent mode of reference citation, and has provided a composite list of abbreviations to facilitate easy access to this wealth of information.

Perhaps the single most important lexical innovation of Danker's edition is its inclusion of extended definitions for Greek terms. For instance, a key meaning of "episkopos" was defined in the second American edition as overseer; Danker defines it as "one who has the responsibility of safeguarding or seeing to it that something is done in the correct way, guardian." Such extended definitions give a fuller sense of the word in question, which will help avoid both anachronisms and confusion among users of the lexicon who may not be native speakers of English.

Danker's edition of Bauer's Wörterbuch will be an indispensable guide for Biblical and classical scholars, ministers, seminarians, and translators.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars A very reliable companion.......2007-07-21

This is a very reliable companion to the Greek text of the New Testament &c. Lucidly written, systematic and easy to use.

5 out of 5 stars A very useful book.......2007-07-21

As an older student of Greek and only recently feeling at ease with the Greek New Testament I am finding this book very useful. I do agree with those who say that the large Liddell and Scott (LSJ) is also very useful. My study so far has been in ancient Greek generally (from Homer to Koine) and I have used LSJ (and the abridged editions) extensively; it a good tool to give New Testament readers a wider view of particular meanings.

So if you can afford it I say buy Danker and LSJ, and if you don't know your Greek accents, get a good book on that too (such as the one by Probert).

5 out of 5 stars You will never read the New Testament the same way again!.......2007-01-04

Walter Bauer spent five hours every day of his scholarly career working on this invaluable lexicon. This lexicon will open up the world of New Testament Greek to even the beginning scholar. With only a little help and looking through the introduction to the lexicon, this volume will unpack the meaning of all the words in the New Testament and other Early Christian texts. If you are a seminarian, pastor, or interested person, this is a must have volume for your shelves.

5 out of 5 stars The Gold Standard Greek Lexicon.......2006-12-26

This is indispensable. Proper Greek study and exegesis CANNOT be done without this resource. The down side? A bit pricy. But it more than pays for itself. WARNING: Pick up the most recent edition (the third, I believe); the changes are staggering and affect meaning.

2 out of 5 stars over-rated and not worth the $.......2006-08-03

For much less than the price of this lexicon, one can purchase a copy of Thayer's, AND Trenchard's vocabulary guide AND a Greek concordance. Academic snobs make a big deal about how Thayer's lexicon is out of date because he did not have access to the papyri, but for 99% of New Testament words and meanings this is not an issue. Trenchard's book is actually MORE helpful, in my opinion, than this or any lexicon because he simply lists every possible meaning of each word. One way to get to the essence of a word's meaning is to look at the cognates, and Trenchard lists them all. A Greek concordance will actually print all the NT uses of a word in Greek. Bauer's lexicon is just not that helpful and is too wordy.

5 out of 5 stars A Gem of a Book.......2007-10-01

This book is for anyone who thirst for more knowledge of the Word of God. It is incredible. Our western minds cant begin to comprehend many of the true intent of the scriptures.

This book opens your mind to the appropriate interpretation of so many scriptures. It makes God's word come ALIVE.

5 out of 5 stars Fascinating Insights.......2007-09-28

Sparkling Gems provides fascinating insight into the deeper definitions of original Greek words; definitions that have too often fallen short with so many of the current simple Biblical translations. Renner brings the Word alive through these living-color, three-dimensional daily word studies. I use it as a daily devotional, appreciating the 2-3page length of each study (as opposed to brief paragraph or one-page dailies.) This book really is a "gem" for me.

Book Description

The only complete interlinear Bible available in English—and it's keyed to Strong's Exhaustive Concordance! Thousands of pastors, students, and laypeople have found The Interlinear Bible to be a time-saving tool for researching the subtle nuances and layers of meaning within the original biblical languages. Featuring the complete Hebrew and Greek texts with a direct English rendering below each word, it also includes The Literal Translation of the Bible in the outside column. But what truly sets this resource apart are the Strong's numbers printed directly above the Hebrew and Greek words. Strong's numbers enable even those with no prior knowledge of Greek or Hebrew to easily access a wealth of language reference works keyed to Strong's—Greek/ Hebrew dictionaries, analytical lexicons, concordances, word studies, and more.

The Hebrew is based on the Masoretic Text and the Greek is from the Textus Receptus. The sources of the texts are documented in the preface, and are essentially the same (with some minor variations) to the Hebrew and Greek texts used by the KJV translators.

Only a small minority of Bible students ever achieve the ability to read the original biblical languages. This resource offers a non-threatening tool for those lacking language training to begin exploring the languages of Scripture.

• Conveniently includes the entire Hebrew and Greek text of the Bible in one place

• Offering a concise, literal translation of each Greek and Hebrew word, it's a great jumping off point for in-depth Bible study and text analysis.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Great bible study tool!.......2007-09-30

This is a great tool for studying the bible. My only complaint is that the Hebrew text is hard to read because it is small and a bit blurry. This book is the first full interlinear bible that I have seen. It has a pronunciation guide and other grammatical helps in the beginning. It is very good for looking up passages and getting the word for word in the original language. I'm sure it will help me in my study of God's holy and inspired word.

5 out of 5 stars Helpful for a Novice.......2007-08-28

Because I know only a few Hebrew words, this particular format is helpful, as it points me to the Hebrew word I want to look up in my theological dictionaries. When pastors indicate the use of a particular Hebrew word in the text, I like to verify that it actually appears which is more difficult in my KOHLENBERGER because of my incomplete vocabulary. Often times the word is there, but in a different format, so the Green Interlinear is helpful and time saving.

5 out of 5 stars Incredible!.......2007-08-27

The challenge is...how hungry are you for the Word? Reading the Hebrew Old Testament is nothing short of hard-core...especially for someone who doesn't know Hebrew....thankfully the English version is right beneath the Hebrew lexicon....this bible brings about a totally new appreciation for the Word of God and those that recorded it! Not for the faint of heart, or those needing 'large print'...but a definite must have for the seriously seeking!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Bible.......2007-08-17

I have been a student of the Biblical texts since 2002, having poured through the KJV, MKJV, NLT, NIV and a few others, and I can say this version is superior to any of those, or anything else readily available from retail book stores. I do enjoy the MKJV, as this to me is the next best thing. However, how can you compare having the exact Hebrew and Greek texts right in front of you? This is the problem of modern translations, including the "KJV 1611 AV", which I think is an acceptable copy, but it is not perfect. Why try to imitate the original Old English (which is actually about unreadable being early 17th century English)? It is a form of a transliteration. I have read a Nelson Reprint (an exact copy of the original 1611 Bible), and it is quite different from the modern "KJV 1611 AV".

I am more interested in *exactly* what God said (as is Mr. Green), word for word, than a close translation. So this version is pure gold to me!

5 out of 5 stars Completely Complete.......2007-08-11

Altho the print is small, it has to be to be so complete, it is the perfect book for the person who wants every Hebrew and Greek word in one volume and keyed to the Strong's Concordance! The perfect resource combined with Strong's Concordance for the person that is limited in time but long on wanting to know. Buy it now!

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Where are the verbal roots....?.......2007-07-09

These cards are great for learning vocabulary. However, William Mounce, as part of his "system" for learning verbs, stresses the exact memorization of verbal roots as the key to recognizing all the different tense stems. For verbs, these cards list all the different tense stems that occur in the NT, but no verbal roots. In fact, "Basics of Biblical Greek" (the textbook) does not include the verbal roots for any verbs other than those occuring more than 50 times in the NT. Maybe memorization of the roots is not really essential. While it's not a show stopper by any means (you can usually figure out the root) if you are really trying to use the Basics of Biblical Greek "system" for learning verbs these cards lack a key component. Perhaps this is a way to get us all to purchase the Mounce morphology book.

5 out of 5 stars Great cards for learning greek.......2007-07-05

The quality is excellent and the extra info on the cards such as conjugations and amount of times the word is found in the NT make it an excellent value.

5 out of 5 stars Great supplement to the book.......2007-06-26

These cards are immensely helpful for the rote memorazation part of biblical greek. I was relieved to find that I would not have to make my own flashcards.

4 out of 5 stars Just a quick few words of caution..........2007-03-16

I am just starting out on a journey to teach myself NT Greek and I purchased a set of these cards without also purchasing the author's text. I strongly suggest you get both, as the cards are much more useful with the text, to which they are indexed.

I must also not that these cards are NOT printed to flip in the most logical way, top edge back to reveal the English translation of the Greek word. Instead, they must be flipped the more awkward side edge to the back to reveal the properly positioned English.

I was also just a bit disappointed that there was no more complete information on the parts of speech on the cards, but then, I expect that will all be revealed in the text, which I have just ordered.

5 out of 5 stars Vocabulary Cards a Must.......2007-02-10

These cards are invaluable. The size of each card is just right. I was able to take these with me whenever I travelled and I could easily review the words each day. Before I knew it, I had a sizeable vacabulary memorized and could easily identify the words in Scripture.

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

5 out of 5 stars Very Interesting.......2007-03-07

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

5 out of 5 stars One of a kind.......2007-07-27

This is a must have for every layperson, bible student, and pastor. The New Strong's Expanded Exhaustive Concordance is equipped with everything needed to achieve a successful study of the scriptures. I truly love the topical index to the bible, it gives you total history of any subject matter or person in the bible linking Old Testament to New Testament. Every word that is in the bible is in the concordance allowing you a sure way to find the scripture you are looking for. I can't go on without mentioning the Hebrew and Greek dictionaries that allows you to receive the correct meaning to certain words in scripture so you can rightly divide the Word of Truth. There is so much that I can say about this book, if you don't have one you need to purchase one now, you will be pleased.

5 out of 5 stars Buy this one.......2007-05-31

If you are in need of a concordance the Strong's is by far the best and this one is improved, the words of Christ is in red and it is easy to follow, the reference number is located to the right of the word you are researching and the Hebrew is in normal type while the Greek is in italic type print and this makes it easy to reference, also appearing within the enhanced definition are cross-references to to other leading word dictionaries. This gives a better understanding of words in the King James Version that may have left you in question before, it is much better to be able to see the word meaning from the original transcripts. It also has a complete topical index, includes the Harmony of the Gospels, the parables of Jesus, the miracles of Jesus and much more.

As a Bible student, this has been a great help.

4 out of 5 stars A great way to practice basic vocabulary.......2006-11-14

As a beginner who is studying on my own ,I've found this to be great for practicing vocabulary in short sentences , instead of just rote memorization , which I find very boring . Also he uses made up sentences in the practice exercises which is good because you can remember scriptures after getting just a couple of words in the sentence , with made up sentences you actually have to translate it all . The only real drawback is Dobson does'nt really cover grammar , so I recomend a grammar such as Mounces Basics Of Biblical Greek In addition to this , for someone who's really trying to learn the language well . I wholeheartedly reccomend this to anyone studying on their own .

5 out of 5 stars This book prepares you to read the NT on your own.......2006-04-01

This is the best language learning book I have ever used in my entire life, and I was a language major in College and I teach EFL for a living. This book is simply amazing, every single thing that can possibly be done right, is done right.

Because it's much easier to understand a language (passively or receptively) than to produce it (in conversational situations, for instance), learning Koine to the level of being able to read the NT is actually not as difficult as you might think.

After following Dobson's course of study, will you know Koine as well as a seminary student? No, but you will be able to read the NT on your own, provided you use an online concordance or a dictionary, plus a grammar book for the trickier parts.

The best part of this book are the insights that Dobson succinctly makes on the biblical texts that are being used. Since Dobson knows both Koine and Hebrew, he is able to show exactly what the authors were doing when writing the NT. Not only is this spiritually empowering, it also provides a background context for remembering the information being given.

In the new edition being sold on Amazon, there are accents. Also, there is an audio CD which complements the lessons nicely. This is the best value I seen in any product in quite a long time.

5 out of 5 stars This Course is Great.......2006-03-18

'Learn New Testament Greek' is a great and easy way to learn to read the Greek New Testament, and it allows you to go at your own pace. The lessons are easy to handle, and the audio CD helps with pronounciation. I highly recommend this book; it is well-worth it. I cannot say enough how great this book is.

5 out of 5 stars One of The Best New Testament Greek Books I've Bought.......2006-03-01

Simply one of the best. Put in a steady 20-30 minutes a day, and watch how quickly your NT Greek starts to improve. No use buying the book and just sitting it down. Repetition is the key, with this or any other book on a foreign language.

Contains good explanations, good, clear, examples, and helpful exercises, giving enough repetition to instill the basic principles. A good start for anyone who wants to get a solid foundation in Koine Greek.

Book Description

This book is intended primarily for learners who are beginning the study of the Greek Testament either without any previous acquaintance with the Greek language or with an acquaintance so imperfect that a renewed course of elementary instruction is needed. This revision, over seventy-five years since the first edition was published, retains much of the character and organization of the first edition while accommodating readers today who lack an understanding of Latin and grammar necessary for fully comprehending the original edition. For an introduction to the Greek Testament.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars I love learning Greek with Machen.......2007-09-13

I am pleased with the book. Machen provides excercises which are incredibly helpful in learning Greek. Each lesson is broken up effectively making it easy to follow. However, I found it necessary to receive instruction from a teacher along with each lesson.

5 out of 5 stars This is the one. Get it........2007-06-22

I started Greek with this book and went on to major in Greek. Machen's systematic presentation of grammar is as clear and approachable as you'd want it to be. I've been away from Greek for decades and after spending my career teaching Latin, I've returned to this little book and found it invigorating as I relearn what I once knew so well. I own other Greek grammars, but Machen's is really all I need. If you buy this--and I highly recommend it--get Thompson's workbook too. As a combination they can't be beat. Thompson, by the way, provides excellent additional review and practice material that makes a difficult language more accessible.

5 out of 5 stars New Testament made Easy.......2006-08-31

This is a great textbook for anyone who has never studied Greek and needs to have an understanding of the languages for New Testament studies. The chapters are short and easy to understand and the exercises are well paced.

4 out of 5 stars a true classic.......2006-08-02

I am partial to Machen because I first learned Greek with his book, but the more I use this text to teach Greek to others, the more impressed I become. The genius is the organization and the exercises. No grammar does a better job of systematically leading one through Greek and the exercises are wonderful at reenforcing the vocabulary and paradigms. This book is great for reviewing or refreshing Greek and is perfect for teaching children, again because of the exercises.
Machen's writing style is succinct if not eliptical, and this is the polar opposite to Mounce's user-friendly, wordy text, but its nice that it is small and you don't need a separate workbook. I would recommend that you buy both Machen and Mounce. The only reason I give it four stars is that no grammar is perfect and you really need to work through several. Machen is also to be honored for defending the faith against liberalism and he belongs in every Greco-phile's library.

5 out of 5 stars Agreement!.......2006-03-04

I have to voice agreement with those who praise this as the best introduction but I wonder how much of our love for the book is because it has sat on our desks for so many years and along with our Liddell and Scott is the first place we go to check something!
