Anam Cara: A Book of Celtic Wisdom offers an exploration of the secret universe we all carry inside us, the connections we forge with the worlds of our friends and loved ones, and the products of our worlds reflected in the things we create outside of ourselves. Anam Cara, Gaelic for "soul friend," is an ancient journey down a nearly forgotten path of wisdom into what it means to be human. Drawing on this age-old perspective, John O'Donohue helps us to see ourselves as the Celts did: we're more than just flesh, blood, and bone; we comprise individual worlds. The comprehension of the sublime architecture of the worlds we are born with will engender a new appreciation for the outside world and the way we contribute to its evolution.

The Philosophy, Poetry and Spirituality of Life.......2007-09-08
John O'Donohue's best-selling "Anam Cara" is one of the most profound books I have read this year and is a must read for those searching for the deeper meaning of life, purpose and eternity. "Anam Cara" (soul friend) is a rare synthesis of philosophy, poetry, and spirituality with O'Donohue moving your mind, heart and soul on every page. He has packed so much into this book that you may, as I did, want to read just few pages a day.
O'Donohue integrates philosophy, poetry, and spirituality as he reveals the mystery of friendship, the spirituality of the senses, the importance of solitude, the poetry of work, the beauty of aging, and our daily companion, death. You will be rewarded with uncommon wisdom and unique insights on each topic.
On friendship, O'Donohue speaks to the circle of belonging, love being the nature of the soul, and the soul being the divine echo.
On the senses - the holiness of the gaze, listening as worship, the language of touch, and the body being both the angel and mirror of the soul.
On solitude - the world of the soul is secret, transfiguring the ego is to liberate the soul, the natural is to be holy, and one of the greatest sins is the unlived life.
On work - the expression of the soul, weakness and power, the false trap of belonging, work and imagination, and how heartful work brings beauty.
On aging - time as a circle, our harvest, memories, passion and aging, wisdom as poise and grace, and the freedom aging brings.
And death - the unknown companion, the faces of death in everyday life, death as the root of fear
the dead are our nearest neighbors, birth as death, and how the dead bless us.
"Anam Cara" is a beautiful book that will increase your understanding of yourself, your relationships, the world around you, and how we relate to the divine in all aspects of life.
Anam Cara.......2007-05-31
Parts of this book were very readable and understandable, but much of it was too philosophical and only understandable if raised in the Celtic traditions.
Excellent Overview of Celtic Wisdom.......2007-05-23
John O'Donohue truly has the Irish gift of storytelling, and the skills with language to make this topic come alive.
One of the best in this genre..
"Soul Friend".......2007-05-12
Anam means Soul and Cara means Friend in Irish Gaelic. This is a truely wonderful and spiritual book.
Its funny. When we think of rich culture and spirituality most of us look to the east and far east for inspiration. It's amazing how much spirituality and culture is here at our doorsteps and especially in Ireland!
I love this book because it echoes the wisdom of all the philosphers and prophets that have lived throughout history. It talks about how each of us has an "Anam Cara", a soul friend to help us learn and develop along this lifes journey. It describes how your Anam Cara helps you to see yourself completely and honesty. Even the bits you don't like and would rather hide!
John Donohue combines the rich Irish culture with christianity to discribe a way of being that requires no religion. A way in which each soul can be free and know its full potential.
Thank you John for enriching my life with this gem of a book.X

Another Great Chicken Soup!.......2007-03-09
I love the Chicken Soup series and this book didn't disappoint! I bought 5 of them for Christmas. Four to give as gifts and one for myself. All of my friends loved it too. Would definitley recommend!
My emotional Rollercoaster.......2006-05-22
The stories in Chicken Soup for the Girlfriends Soul took me on a very high and low emotional rollercoaster. The stories made me smile and some made me sad. I didn't particullarily like this book because I think that it was directed to an older audience. I am 15 years old, and some of the stories were about life-long friendships. I couldn't seem to relate to many of the stories. Overall, this book wasn't my favorite, but it wasn't the worst book I have ever read.
I laughed, I cried.......2005-08-02
As with all the Chicken Soup books, I was able to relate to a lot of the stories and I really enjoyed reading the book. I'm giving it to my best friend who is leaving for college and I think she will really enjoy it also.

Neale Donald Walsch grew up fearing God, especially after his mother, a neighborhood mystic, was caught reading cards for a friend. His mother was "trafficking with the devil," according to Walsch's deeply religious aunt, and as a result, "God will send her straight to hell."
That was the start of a relationship born of "fearship," as Walsch calls it. In Friendship with God, Walsh speaks to the struggles he's had learning to see God as a true friend rather than a punishing judge. Like his immensely popular Conversations with God series, Friendship with God is written mostly in dialogue format, modeling how anyone can converse with God. What makes the book especially accessible is Walsh's humble voice that gently addresses most people's confusion and doubts. For example, Walsh talks about feeling squeamish that God knows the shameful secrets of his life. In response, God points out that Walsh has shared his dark secrets with friends and lovers. So why not share these truths with God, who has never judged or punished him, and never will? These types of tender and reassuring conversations give readers the courage to begin their own private dialogues with the divine. --Gail Hudson
Book Description
The first book in a new series by the multimillion-copy bestselling author of Conversations with God.
Neale Donald Walsch has changed the way millions of Americans think about God. His Conversations with God series, book 1, book 2, and book 3, have all been New York Times bestsellers- book 1 for over two years.
The essence of Neale Donald Walsch's message lies at the heart of faith- the sacred place in every person, where he stands alone with his God. Walsch urges each of us to forge our own unique relationship with God, a God who is everywhere and speaks to us in all we do. It is up to us to stop and listen. It is up to us to respond...to begin the conversation. And a conversation is the first step, just as in any relationship, in establishing trust, in building friendship, in creating communion.
In Friendship with God, Neale Donald Walsch shares the next part of his journey, and leads us to deepen and strengthen our own bonds with God. He honors our heart's desire: a closer connection, richer and fuller. A friendship with God.

More than worth the cost.......2007-10-11
I recommend this book. Friendship With God takes some of the basic concepts the author (Walsch) addressed in his original Conversations With God trilogy (books 1-3) and goes more in-depth. He and brings out some new ideas as well. It's well worth reading, but only AFTER you've read Conversations With God books 1,2 & 3.
What the world needs now!.......2007-09-02
So, you don't want to believe the author about it actually being GOD he is talking to?
Well, how do you think the first bible got written? THE SAME WAY.
Pay attention to God's answers, and you will "just know" in your heart that it is God talking.
All religions even atheists would benefit from hearing what God says about religion, the bible and church. It will surprise the hell out of you literally. Open your mind and read it. It has nothing to do with modern day christianity.
I love it I love it I love it!!.......2007-07-23
I had read most of the CWG books, I must say Friendship with God and Home with God are my favorite besides the CWG trilogy. It has many new materials not found in CWG 1,2,or 3. It focuses more on you and God.. how to become friendship with God.. and how to apply this friendship to our everyday life. Neale also talks more about his life stories and more real life examples were presented so that we can better understand God's words. It kept the dialogue format (which i like alot) and Neale raised many difficult questions for God to answer and God answers them with clarity, wisdom, and consistency. After reading this book, i feel so close to God and thank god for his love for each of us all.
Change attitude about GOD forever!.......2007-05-24
This book and others in this series may foeever change you!
thought provoking.......2007-05-08
As with all of the Conversation With God books I think that there is some huge spiritual content in this book. It is well written and easy to read. It has a smooth flow to it. If you read his books with an open mind and just let your instincts tell you if this rings true or not I think that you will be surprised. Read and then listen to the quiet voice inside that is your God center...
Book Description
An ECPA 2003 Gold Medallion Finalist!
A Formatio book. We need companions on our spiritual journey. The modern world has taught us to value autonomy and individualism. Our churches often see spirituality as personal and private. But we cannot go long in our Christian pilgrimage before realizing that isolation leads to spiritual barrenness. We soon discover that our souls long for accompaniment, intimacy and spiritual friendship. As a result, many Christians today are rediscovering the ancient practice of spiritual direction. In this inviting guide, David G. Benner introduces readers to the riches of spiritual friendship and direction, explaining what they are and how they are practiced. Spiritual direction moves beyond mere moral lifestyle accountability and goes deeper than popular notions of mentoring or discipling. Through prayerful, guided attunement to God's activity, sacred companions provide care for the soul.If we are to experience significant spiritual formation and growth, our souls must be nurtured through spiritual companions. Benner, well-accustomed to God's work through relationships, models the kind of traveling companion who can move us toward deeper intimacy with God.

Excellent Introduction to Spiritual Accompaniment.......2007-08-16
Recently, I've started getting interested in the Spiritual Direction, so I picked up this book. I expected it to be a practical book about how to give spiritual direction. And, I'm glad to say that I was not disappointed.
Dr. Benner gives us two paths of "Spiritual Accompaniment": spiritual friendship (which is informal) and spiritual direction (which is more formal). He also gives useful examples (even transcripts of actual sessions) and general principles which are quite informative for anyone considering pursuing spiritual direction, either as director or directee. My favorite chapters are probably the last two, though. Here, he considers placing spiritual accompaniment in two specific contexts. First, there is the small group. His chapter here outlines the use of the Lectio Divina (a form of devotional reading for those who are less familiar with it) in fostering deep spiritual sharing in a small group rather than simply using a small group for fellowship or Bible study. Second, there is marriage. Sadly, many marriages, even if successful, lack spiritual content, and Dr. Benner offers ideas of how actively pursuing spiritual friendship and direction with your spouse can be a relationship which draws you together spiritually.
Sacred Companions is written for someone who is relatively new to spiritual accompaniment, and as such is written with relatively little jargon. Also, he includes an extensive topical list of suggestion for further reading on a number of topics, from prayer to Lectio to spiritual direction and theology.
If you're looking for a book that's a good introduction to spiritual accompaniment, then this is a book I would certainly recommend.
Hunger for the Holy.......2005-06-02
People hunger for the sacred. They're thirsty for the experience of the presence of God. Their longings can't be chalked up to post-modernity or new age ideology. Rather, we can trace these desires for intimacy with God back through Church history, back to the Incarnation of Christ, and all the way back to Adam and Eve walking with God in the cool of the day.
God designed us for God.
David Benner understands the soul's longings and he grasps how to help others to quench their thirst. For many reasons "Sacred Companions: The Gift of Spiritual Friendship and Direction" interests me. Not the least of which is the remarkable recommendation by Dr. Larry Crabb. "I assigned `Sacred Companions' as the lead book in the first class I ever taught on spiritual direction. I think it's that good."
Benner begins by guiding his readers on a journey through the basics of spiritual friendship and direction--what is it, what do we mean by the terms, what does it look like in real life?
In Part II, especially helpful for Protestants unused to these concepts, he demystifies spiritual direction. Along the way, Benner provides insight from ancient spiritual guides, examples from his own ministry, and illustrations from diverse modern sources.
In Part III, the author elaborates on how to combine spiritual direction and spiritual friendship, and how to provide them in small groups and in marriage. Allotting a chapter to each allowed for a solid introduction, but leaves the reader hungry for more insight and instruction. The thorough index of resources helps to sate part of these hunger pangs.
Each chapter ends with reflection questions and suggestions for application. These are excellent and perhaps would have been even more useful had they been prepared with enough space to be used as a built-in study guide/group discussion guide.
Without question, Dr. Crabb is right. "Sacred Companions" is a worthy addition to the growing list of resources available to equip lay people, pastors, and professional counselors to offer soul care and spiritual direction.
Reviewer: Dr. Robert W. Kellemen is the author of "Soul Physicians: A Theology of Soul Care and Spiritual Direction," "Spiritual Friends: A Methodology of Soul Care and Spiritual Direction," and the forthcoming, "Sacred Companions: A History of Soul Care and Spiritual Direction."
Essential.......2005-03-13
This book is essential for anyone who wants to go deeper with God. It discusses all aspects of spiritual friendship and spiritual direction, with an emphasis on prayer and experience over answers and advice. There are key insights about our relationship with God and with others. A wonderful, inspiring, and motivating book.
Great book-highly recommend!.......2004-01-17
If you're looking for an excellent introduction to spiritual direction and spiritual friendship, this is your book. Benner knows what he's talking about, and says it in an easy-to-read manner.

not a keeper.......2007-02-27
Food for thought but I didn't keep the book after I was done reading it.
A great perspective on friendships.......2007-01-10
The author gives a Biblical perspective on the value of having close friendships with women througout life. She's revised the book over the last 20 years, and I was struck by how her thoughts had matured as life brought about hardships- tough times that made her value her friends even more. It helped me look at the people in my life and look at them not as "potential friends for myself" but as women who may need the encouragement of a friend. Even if you go into a friendship thinking you are the one "helping out" I think we almost always find that we gain as much as we give from getting to know other people. The busyness of life tends to make us little islands, and this book was a good reminder that we really do need our friends.
The Friendships of Women Bible Study.......2007-01-04
This is an excellent companion to Dee Brestin's book, "The Friendships of Women".
Deals with many relationships.......2006-05-06
This book, with the main focus being on friendships of women and why women need women, also points out why women need men (and visa-versa), and examines our family relationships (your first friend is your mom.) This book definately makes you think about the present, and causes you to reflect and reminisce on the past. The author gives new life to women of the Bible, and brings their personal lives and relationships into focus.
Altogether an immensely enjoyable and insightful book.
Book Buys into Stereotypes.......2003-09-28
My church women's group chose this book. Many of us were quite discouraged by the views expressed by this book. She speaks in generalities a lot and seems to buy into many of the common beliefs about gender: Women are catty, men are reserved etc... Sociologist have debunked many of those myths. We found her views outdated. Some men can be catty too. Some men do develop close friendships with other men. She assumes that males and females can be categorized into these easily defined groupings. Experience and research suggest otherwise.
In addition, she uses the book as a tool to disparage homosexuals and condemn "alternative" lifestyles. Many reform Christian denominations would find her Biblical interpretations narrow-minded and too literalist. Personally, I was offended as a married woman by the generalities she assigns to females, and as a human being for the ignorant judgements she places on homosexuals. Her book does not embody Christ's love. It is an insult to any thinking Christian's intelligence. If you are looking for insight into the women in the Bible and a book that illustrates how those Biblical relationships are reflected in today's society, THIS IS NOT IT!
Book Description
We are all born in the image of God, but living out the likeness of God is a choice. This inspiring, practical guidebook provides you with the tools you need to realize the divinity within yourself, recognize the divinity within others, and act on the obligation to manifest God's infinite compassion in your own life.
Guided by Rabbi Rami Shapiro, you will explore Judaism's Thirteen Attributes of Lovingkindness as the framework for cultivating a life of goodness. Shapiro translates these attributes into practices--drawn from the teachings of a variety of faith traditions--that allow you to actualize God's glory through personal deeds of lovingkindness. You will enrich your own capacity for lovingkindness as you:
Harvest kindness through compassionate honesty
Make room in your heart for reality
Recognize the manifestations of God
Embrace the paradoxical truth of not-knowing
Be present in the moment
Do right by others
With candor, wit, and honesty, Shapiro shows you that by choosing to act out of love rather than fear, with kindness rather than anger, you can transform how you perceive the world and ultimately lead a more complete spiritual life.
Customer Reviews:
One of the most consciousness changing books I've read.......2007-06-11
I could feel my attitudes changing as I read this book, slowly, chapter by chapter. I am so grateful to this author for teaching me about how to cultivate equanimity and what anger really is and how to try my best to avoid falling into it. This is one of the best books I have ever read because it tells me that I will fall short of my intention to be a better person, and that's ok, as long as I keep pursuing my spiritual growth. Thank you for writing this book, Rabbi Rami Shapiro! I recommend this book to anyone who wants to cultivate a healthier, more rewarding spriritual life no matter what religion they do or don't practice.
This is a great book.......2006-09-06
If you want to really understand what it means to be kind, this is the book for you. Rabbi Rami refrences many spiritual traditions in his deep teaching. I highly recomend this book.
Book Description
Throughout his life, Aelred took great joy in his friends and he believed that by loving and being loved by them, we learn to accept and return God's infinitely greater and enduring love. Real friendship always includes a third person, the Lord Jesus.
Customer Reviews:
A Wonderful Little Gem.......2004-06-30
Modern readers are often amazed at the content of Aelred of Rievaulx's SPIRITUAL FRIENDSHIP. Immediately people may ask "What would a twelfth century Cistercian abbot have to say about friendship?" The answer turns out to be "Quiet a bit". St. Aelred takes Cicero's writings on friendship and gives them a Christian perspective. The writings are set up as dialogues in the style of Plato. For St. Aelred, friendship involves love and commitment and is part and parcel of the Christian life. He believes that friends should be carefully selected and once selected, deserve the best that one can offer. In these relationships one not only finds God, but one is able to do effective work on behalf of God's people. Many commentators believe that St. Aelred was writing about the secrets of his success in the spiritual life in this work. Prior to entering religious life, Aelred was in the court of the Scottish king and was known for his political savvy and ability to accomplish things through his relationships with others. He used these same gifts in the monastery and accomplished a great deal in his lifetime, both in his abbey and for the Church as a whole.
Since Aelred speaks about friendship in poetic terms, and often times writes about friendship the way one would write about marriage, it is not surprising that his writings did spark controversy and for many years after Aelred's death, the work was largely unknown. Commentators believe that this is due not just to the controversy of the writings, but also to a combination of changes in religious life to a more aesthetic form as well as a fear of "particular friendships" (a Catholic euphemism for unhealthy, usually illicit sexual encounters). Whatever the actual reason, the book is a treasure today. In a time when people are looking for true intimacy and lasting relationships, this work gives readers much to think about. It also has great advice about personal and professional relationships. The book also offers the readers insight into a relationship with Jesus Christ. While the idea of the book may have come from Cicero, it is clear that St. Aelred's basis for the book came from his relationship with God and Cicero's writings provided fodder and a framework.
The great classic on spiritual friendship.......2003-06-18
Toss out your pop psychology driven books of the past century. Aelred of Rievaulx provides keen insight into the soul and into friendships between those who share the Spirit of Jesus Christ. A simple but profound read, the book does more than just talk about spiritual friendship, it is the very expression of its topic. Not a treatise where you, the reader, sit through a monologue, the book comes out of conversations with real spiritual friends of Aelred. Although the conversations are obviously reconstructed, there is a freshness in them with their expressions of anger, frustration, confusion, interest, and playfulness that makes the book a joy to read.
See also James M. Houston's Mentored Life for the role of spiritual friends in a time when spiritual direction is all the rage.

Customer Reviews:
This book could just change your life..........2007-10-01
Any book can tell the story of four imperfect students. But this book is different.
Jillian may seem like a good Christian girl, but she's struggling. Brittany may seem like just another of those pretty girls that got in with the wrong crowd, but she's dissatisfied. Ian may seem content with his drinking, interest in witchcraft, and girlfriends, but he's afraid. And Rob may seem like a happy, moral guy, but he's hiding something.
Only God can help them. But this is Lord Foulgrin's greatest fear.
Every other chapter is a letter from the correspondence of the Devil's servants as they discuss how to ruin the four main characters. But through these letters clearly shine numerous messages to the readers. So while the evil tries in vain to destroy the good, readers are challenged to persevere for the good. To flee from evil. To see through deception. To comfort those who are struggling. To stand up to what is wrong. To encourage others to do right. To treasure God's Word. To be continually praying and to understand the power of prayer. To value one's family. To put others first. And to imitate Christ's forgiveness.
It causes you to think of life through the eyes of God. It's a glimpse of the big picture. And all the while, it's one of those books you don't want to put down.
For teenagers or parents, this book is worth your time. All the way.
Distrubing - in a good way.......2007-07-25
I liked this book, but was disturbed by it. By that I mean, the "letters" between Ishbane and Foulgrin made me really start to think at how Satan works on us.
It is a good book for parents to read.
Read it in small bites for maximum impact.......2007-07-05
It is very similar in writing style to the better known book by C S Lewis (THE SCREWTAPE LETTERS). I didn't read the prequel to this book, but it stands alone. I'm impressed by the thoughts & images and the storyline. Of course, I *do* enjoy the Harry Potter series (which, in passing, is mentioned negatively in this book) but I understand the message presented by the authors.
Because of some scary descriptions and images, I'd recommend this for the 13+ crowd. It *is* worth reading.
Boring..........2007-03-21
This book is, contrary to popular belief, not good reading for people of all ages. In fact I thought it would be more suiting for a teenager that barely reads and is looking for something to support Christianity. It's so formulaic, simplistic, and in several cases just dumb. Every single chapter is the exact same length and each ends with some lame letter written by a demon to which they describe how tight their pants are getting as these kids sin. It's quite predictable as well, which doesn't make it overly exciting to read. After a few chapters I began to question the reason for living, it was so boring. I hate it. I hate this book so very much for taking as many brain cells as it did.
Conspiracy Indeed.......2007-01-17
This is a great book for teens and parents alike.
Reminds me some of the Srewtape Letters from C.S. Lewis.
Reminds us all how the devil is ever working his conspiracy.

The Soul of Sponsorship explores the relationship of Bill Wilson, cofounder of Alcoholics Anonymous, and his spiritual adviser and friend, Father Ed Dowling. Many might consider that such a remarkable individual as Bill Wilson, who was the primary author of AA literature, would be able to deal with many of life's problems on his own. Reading The Soul of Sponsorship will illuminate and answer the question of how Father Ed, an Irish Catholic Jesuit priest who was not an alcoholic, was able to be of such great help to Bill Wilson.
Part of AA's Twelfth Step reminds us "to carry this message to alcoholics," and The Soul of Sponsorship illustrates how sober alcoholics still need the principles of the Twelve Steps brought to them by friends, sponsors, and spiritual advisers. Some of the problems faced by Bill Wilson were:
- depression in recovery
- dependency issues
- whether or not to experiment with LSD
- the place of money and power in AA
- knowing God's plan and will
- learning from mistakes
Father Ed taught Bill the importance of "discernment." In Father Ed's Jesuit tradition, discernment was a gift, passed down to him from St. Ignatius, the founder of the Jesuits, who described his own struggle with discernment in Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius. The Twelve Steps of AA and the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius presuppose that there is a caring God whose will can be known. The act of tuning in to God's action at one's center is discernment. The big question is, how do you know your Higher Power is speaking and revealing Himself through your feelings and desires?
What Bill learned from Father Ed can be found in books and articles he wrote for AA. For the good of AA and himself, Bill learned to listen to his desires, be aware of his inner dynamics, and tune into the action of God within. Doing this meant learning to recognize and identify his personal movements -- those inner promptings and attractions often called emotions or affections -- which are part of ordinary human experiences. The person who helped Bill grow in discernment was Father Ed, the Jesuit priest with a cane who limped into the New York AA clubhouse one sleet-filled November night in 1940.
The two "fellow travelers," Father Ed Dowling and Bill Wilson, gave each other perhaps the greatest gift friends can give: calling on each to know who he is -- before God.

I found this book to be of interest in my addiction. It shows that the incurable can be greatly helped in restoring the alcoholic(addict) in returning to a productive life among his fellow man by following a spiritual path.
Deepening my Catholic Sobriety.......2007-05-13
I read Fitzgerald's book while I was on a 30 day Ignatian retreat, journeying on the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius Loyola. I have been in the A.A. program for almost a year and somewhere along the line came to sense a connection between the spiritual program of A.A. and some of the roots of my own Catholic tradition. Just as, at 54 years of age, I found myself "ready" for the 30 day retreat, so did I find myself in January of this year "ready" for the gift of the 12 Steps for me. Like the protagonist in Francis Thompson's Hound of Heaven, God and the peace of sobriety FOUND ME. I knew that I had to understand more about how the 12 Step spirituality was in sync with my Catholic faith. This book on the correspondence and long friendship of Fr. Dowling and Bill W. gave me tremendous insight, knowledge and inspiration to help make my own 12 Step Walk one that resonates and deepens my own Catholic Christian journey. It is worth the read!!!
True Friendship - Spiritual Growth.......2007-04-21
This story has its roots in the friendship of two remarkable men of different backgrounds and experiences. Although, both men thirsted for the 'Direction of God's will' in their lives, they approached it from vastly different experiences. Whether you come to these pages from A.A. or the contemplative prayer of Ignatiun spirituality, this is a must read. We are shown how ones weakness and sortcomings can become overcome and transended by following a 'few simple rules'. the openess of their letters is evidence of the trust and love these two men shared with each other.
I do think that a personal understanding of the Tweleve Steps and Twelve Traditions of A.A., as well as the exercises of St. Ignatius would allow a better grasp of this spiritual journey, but is in no way necessary to appreciate the remarkable transformation that these two men achieved with and through each other's friendship and guidance. Much can be absorbed by reviewing these letters and the simple set up that 'Fr. Bob' gives their communications in his explanatory prose. This book allows a hightened understanding of the foundations of A.A. and the rewards of a life based in 'Love and Service', as well as the true nature of discernment.
The letters are great, the rest is chaos.......2002-01-25
I was really excited to read this book after hearing someone talk about it. I looked forward to an insight on Bill's struggle with depression and also hearing the guidance he received from Father Dowling. In that way, the book did not disappoint. The letters are great. My complaint is the way this book is written. I am an avid reader, yet this book makes very little sense! I do not understand the authors point, his interpretations, why he even grouped sections of letters together. He doesn't seem to have a theme, that I can see. I still think this book is worth having in your collection, just for the letters.

You must be patient........2006-11-10
This book takes a while to get into - you must be patient and learn about each character individually. This is the first in a series so I got just a taste obviously and I was disappointed that I really didn't get to dive into the story line further. I do hope the next one will be easier to identify with earlier. I am a fan of Christian fiction, but this is my first book from this author. Overall, good reading.
Great Story!.......2006-08-27
I just finished reading "A Fall Together", what a great story. Funny how the two sisters reminded me of myself and my sister. I hope one day she will see Christ through my actions. And I have two teenage daughters at home that I'm consistently struggling to keep the doors of communication open too. Jennifer has blended this community and circle of friends into a wonderful story. It would be a great to see a story like this in film one day too. I'll be looking for the next book in the series that is scheduled to be released in Jan 2007.
Refreshing Read.......2006-08-14
Though I don't have much time to read, I made time to read this book! Ms. O'Neill out did herself on this one, addressing life issues in a sometimes humorous always honesty manner. Her characters are real, her writing style is unique and her book is well worth the read. I highly recommend it!
A Great Read!.......2006-07-06
"A Fall Together" is a wonderful story of the importance faith, family, and friendship in the struggles of life, written with all the passion that Jennifer O'Neill always writes with. I found myself constantly drawn back to the story until I finished the book, and now I am anxiously waiting for the next part of the story in the next book. As one who works with single again adults I found the struggles of Lauren, Irene and their children realistic and true to life. This is a great book and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who likes a great story.

JENNIFER O'NEILL IS AMAZING!!!.......2006-06-06
Jennifer O'Neill has done it yet again. We loved her other books and this one is incredible. It is filled with Danielle Steele characters and has a touch of Desperate Housewives. Jennifer, this book would make a wonderful mini-series for TV or even a series of videos that people can purchase. Your heart felt cry is heard in this book and that is what makes this book a must read. We were able to read the entire book and not want to put it down - each problem the characters faced seem real, the characters have depth and the story makes the reader get drawn into their world and their situations. You feel for the characters and it makes you cry. Thanks for having the heart of compassion and a desire to help people deal with situations. We hope you will continue writing more good books and you know we will be telling others about this wonderful book. Hope to see it on a best sellers list.
