Since becoming parents 7 1/2 years ago, we have read MANY MANY MANY children's books and I can easily say that Sandra Boynton is our family's favorite author. The illustrations are adorable and the stories are funny, sweet, silly, and quick (which is a huge bonus if it's aready past bedtime). Our hands-down favorite is "Barnyard Dance"...it's especially funny if you can read it as if you're actually the caller at a hoedown. Another favorite is "But Not the Hippopotamus" and "Horns to Toes and In Between" which is great for teaching body parts. If you're looking for silly, cute, and funny, Sandra's books do not disappoint.

My grandson is 2 years old and he loves thes books. The illustrations are fun and colorful and the verses rhyme and are catchy. After I read one of the books to him he sits down and "reads" it to himself, explaining the pictures.

I love Sandra Boynton, and this collection has some of my favorites. I read them to my 1 month old and she loves to listen. I know they will be her favorites for several years to come. THe art is fun and colorful without being too busy for young eyes, and the rymes are cute and pleasant for young ears. We even use some of the words from Barnyard Dance during other play time ("with a neigh and a moo and a cockadoodledoo, another little promenade two by two)!

I purchased this book set for my grandson when he was 12 months old. Listening to books is the only time he actually sits still. His favorite book was Toes, Ears, & Nose although he likes all the books because they are interactive. The only problem with the books is if he is left unsupervised or even when holding him, he rips off the flaps in the books. We have had to glue them back on numerous times. I would highly recommend these books but you must be careful with babies that are aggressively interactive with the books.

We love all of Leslie Patricelli's books, so we pre-ordered this one, and it arrived on our son's first birthday. What a perfect gift! It was the first present he opened. Shortly thereafter, he opened a large box (as described in the book) and it was great to imagine the association (he's obviously too young to make the assocation himself). The story is simple, wonderful, and so apt for a little one. We've saved the wrapping paper (included -- so cool!) for a future big box on a future birthday. I can't wait.

Our two-year-old daughter LOVES this book and likes to sing "Happy Birthday" (her favorite song) to the baby character every time we read it, which is many, many times a week. There's a little surprise too, which she likes to pretend she does not know each time we read it. The story is very sweet, imaginative, and fun. It's a must-have.

Our daughter fell in love with these books around 6 or 7 monhts and still gets excited and selects them over others at 14 months. She has learned so much through them too! We have many of Katz board books with the flaps, and are so happy the author is so prolific. Our daughter likes them all, but the 4 here are her favorites (and "What Does Baby Say?"). Keep them coming!

These books are a great way for everyone in the family to feel appreciated and loved. They make the reader (grandmother for example) feel even more special. I love them.
They're also sturdy enough for my 9 month old to play with and chew on. These aren't his favorite books (that's Violet's House) but they're still great.
And I love that it's cheaper to buy the set than it is to buy the books individually! :) I love book sets.

I got this book for my first child and fell in love with it....I love the box in the back to keep all those little keepsakes...and the month by month view of our child growing was something....I loved this box so well, that when we had our second child, I searched and found it....and now with Baby #3 on the way...I am proud to say all 3 of our children will have the same baby book!! I have all their ultrasounds in the back along with other must keeps!! I don't think any of the other books would have served us as well as these books---I just wish they were a little less difficult to find!!

I love this book so much, that I bought a new one when I messed up on my dates. I went back to the store and they didn't have any, so I looked at others and didn't think any of them compared to this one. I had to order it online and I am very happy with it. There is lots of room to write about your little ones accomplishments each month for up to a year. Lots of room for pictures also.

I bought this record keeper for my second child. I also purchased a monthly calander. The calander is just as detailed as this book. Asking the same exact questions every month. I would suggest doing one or the other or looking for a different record keeper.

thrilling and uplifting.......2007-07-14
I laughed and cried throughout the book and couldn't wait to finish it, but then wanted it to keep going on at the end. It is easy reading but full of rich content. I would recommend this to young people as well as adults. It is more than a good story. It shows how one couple faced insurmountable obstacles with faith and perseverance with many twists and turns in the road.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It is not just a story of rescuing an unwanted Chinese baby girl, it is a story which describes life in China for an expat family at the very beginning of China's move to modernization and an expression of faith in God while the midst of stuggles and doubts. The book ends with a tiny glimpse from the heart of the rescued young lady, 17 years later, which resounds as a song of triumph. I rarely cry about anything but this book brought me to tears twice.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book - a real page-turner. It is a beautiful story of the rescue of a baby girl found in a box in China - discarded and abandoned. But, woven within the story are all the obstacles that bring home the reality of the tragedy of all those that do not have the same fortune. The book is an eye-opener to cultural barriers faced by missionaries or any others that seek to bring aid in the midst of established traditions and red tape. It also graphically illustrates the plight of children in Chinese orphanages. I highly recommend this book.

I found this book an emotional roller coaster of a story offering a real insight into the culture of China's one child policy. To curb the countries skyrocketing population the government only allows couples to have one child. The preference is to have a boy to carry on the family name leading the way for many baby girls to be killed or thrown out. If a woman brings forth a girl then her family, especially her in-laws, will ridicule her. This is an enjoyable true story about a Chinese baby girl that was abandoned and picked up by an American family living in China. They fought for her to get adopted by an American family. Baby in a Box chronicles the red tape encountered between the U.S. and Chinese governments and the difficulty of Communist China refusing to admit the baby even existed. It was a journey thru emotional highs and lows where the baby had to basically be re abandoned so she could be officially recognized as a Chinese citizen. With much faith through love and hope she could be adopted and set free in America by the Grace of God.

My 22 month old son is starting to really enjoy these books. He is excited when he remembers and finds the toy in the picture we ask him to. We also bought the Little Wheels and Christmas books. The box set is nice for taking in the car and we can choose any 3 of the 5 books we have to put in the box. The books are also good because he is learning words to things we don't usually see pictures of.
Incredible vocabulary builders.......2005-10-29
Our son was mildly obsessed with these books from about 16-24 months. We were amazed at how quickly he learned to identify objects and build his vocabulary. Because the growth of his vocabulary outpaced his ability to enunciate clearly, we found ourselves in the role of interpreter for other adults for a few months, but at east we could understand him most of the time! It did a lot to advance our verbal communication with our son by sharing what we saw and experienced together.

My son is 18 months, and these have been his favorite books for a long time. Compact, a good size for him, and good for travelling. The photos seem to appeal more to my son than the cartoon graphics in many childrens book.
They are so popular with my son, that they have been used so much that they will need replacing before too long. Not that this any problem with the books themselves, just heavy use!

These books are so great!! My twin girls got them when they turned one, and they have learned so many words from them! They can name so many different things! The animal book is also really great! The only complaint I have is that some of the pictures are so generic that it is really hard to even tell what it is, but that is really hard to do in a book. That is when you go and get the real thing and show it to your toddler and name it for them!! They do put some less common things in them as well, though, to really challenge them and expand their vocabulary. There are a few animals in the Animal Book that I hadn't even heard of!! These are great for the car because they will keep your toddler occupied for a while. They will flip through the book naming everything!! I was amazed at how fast my girls learned so many words. They are 22 months, and they know all their letters, all their colors, all their shapes, most every animal and its sound, and I think these books have helped them learn a lot of those things! I don't even know how many words they know, but they pretty much know everything in all three books! These are their favorite books and have been for months and months. They will not get tired of them quickly because there are soooo many pictures! This also makes a great gift for a first birthday!

My son is autistic and we have several books from this author, but this set of 3 is my favorite! There are so many wonderful pictures and the pictures are of things that are very interesting to little kids. I've also used many of the pictures in these books as part of our PECS program. My son just loves these and even my 6 year old daughter likes to try to read the words in the books. They're so sturdy they'll last me through my infant son's childhood as well.
