Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

4 out of 5 stars short and bitter history.......2006-05-23

This is the book to buy if you will buy but one book about the history of WWI. This is a book to buy if one is interested in these 4 years of blood and tears. It is built is an effective why as the years of war form the main partition, a brief and concise description follows and then the main battles are described in more detail. Criticism and sharp analysis is not spared. Maneuvers, success, mistakes, weapons, tactics and strategy are drawn in detail and with much insight.
The book itself is written by a British historian and seems to neglect other sides of the story, the French are "pushed aside" and sometimes treated as sidekick or side note to the British narrative. The Germans are mostly faceless and voiceless, they are in the role of an "enemy" and their side of the hill is kept in the dark. Very little is known of other key players - the Russians the Turks and Germany allies - the Austrians.
This leaves a gapping hole in the book and for most parts- we are left peeping though a narrow opening.
The book seems to be printed from bad or worn out plates, letters are worn out and the print is not pleasant to read, the maps are useless - small, badly drawn and very frustrating.

4 out of 5 stars World War I from a participant's point of view.......2006-02-26

Liddell-Hart does not advertise his piece as a complete history of the First World War, but centers in on certain key aspects which played a major role on the outcome.

Throughout his book, Liddell-Hart handles each participant in an even-handed manner by providing the evidence with as little bias as possible. He does show how actions caused the victory or defeat in a certain engagement, but stops short of blaming one commander or another for `what they should have known.'

The author divides his book into seven specific sections. In each section, the first `chapter' is designed to provide an overview of the subsequent `scenes', which are used to provide greater detail of events. This style offers the reader a look at the `big picture,' which help them to understand the significance of the more critical events.

3 out of 5 stars "Mistakes were made.".......2000-11-27

Topic: Single volume overview of W.W.I.

Main thesis: Mistakes. Hart's thesis puts me in mind of the wag's observations on chess: whomever makes the second to the last mistake wins the game.

Style: Hart writes with sardonic wit. Initially, I found it fun to read, but by book's end, p.476, it became a bit of a drag.

Bias: I believe Hart's book is fairly even-handed towards both the Allies and the Central Powers, although Hart frequently waxes in romanticisms, such as, moral and gallant.

But at times, Hart will suddenly and, in my opinion, wrongfully, blame the British citizenry. He seems more critical of the English populace than the enemy forces who killed, wounded and maimed millions of their sons, fathers and brothers.

For example: [on the heavy British losses at Ypres 1917] "And for this lack of moral strength the public must share the blame, for they had already shown themselves too easily swayed by clamor against political interference with the generals, and too prone to believe that the politician is invariably wrong on such occasions. The civilian public, indeed, is apt to trust soldiers too little in peace, and sometimes too much in war." [p 367]

Another example: [on four years of trench warfare] "Thus the ultimate responsibility falls on the British people. Even the military conservatism which obstructed improvements and reorganization during the war may be charged to lack of public concern with the training and selection of officers in peace. In the light of 1914-18 the whole people bear the stigma of infanticide." [p 129] WOW!

These bits of sophistry hold no water. The generals and their staffs are, supposedly, the experts at war, not the public. In a democracy, the politicians and the generals bear the burden of the public trust. In peacetime, the public relies on the politicians and weapons manufacturers, and in war, the generals. Yet, in both examples, the public is responsible what's best for the British military, not their professional military overseers. It seems that Captain Hart preferred to blame the people instead of his own comrades-in-arms. This is a case of the proverbial tail wagging the dog.

Recommendation: Hart's Real War is a good place to start only for a basic overview of the First World War. But the book is seventy years old and Hart's lambasting the British people is questionable at best.

4 out of 5 stars What a book!.......2000-07-12

B. Liddell Hart is one of the history (not only military) thinkers whose fertile works will be fully appreciated only when time has passed on. As usually, human being reckon others merits too much time later. The whole Liddell Hart work it's an example. Had military staffs read him carefully before WWII, perhaps the output would has been otherwise, or at least different. So may be said about the further wars. "The Real War 1914-1918" is a veritable good analysis of the entanglement that led to war. But not only on military factors, as often happens. He included political, economical and even psycological considerations. Instead of a narrative reconstruction, his abarcative and reflexive study is a pretty good proof about what a writer can do if he possess knowledge, patience, and vocation to teach. As reader can verify by himself with "Real War" on his hands ("Strategy", "Germans Generals Talk" or the others Liddell Hart's books as well), with a such kind of master, every book becomes sadly too much short. Thus, among the books I have had opportunity to read about WWI, I deem "The Real War 1914-1918" simply the best one. You won't be disappointed by your choice.

3 out of 5 stars Rabbi Lapin, right-winger.......2006-01-06

I almost totally disagree with Rabbi Lapin when it comes to politics, but this was an interesting book to see the perspective and arguments of a conservative Jew. I find the overall premise, that we need to either stick with Christianity as a basis for our laws or everything will go to hell, to be a false one. This war he has envisioned between good and evil, right-wing and left-wing (left-wing being evil) only exists in the minds of the far right. Such people can't understand what separation of church and state means, and liberalism to them is an evil ideology. I'm liberal but I wouldn't say conservatives are evil, I would just say I disagree with them. See the difference?

2 out of 5 stars Just not very good.......2005-12-02

This book is mostly void of intellectual prowess although it is quite effective and leveling mostly empty, fiery claims against liberal America. The book makes sweeping generalizations, lifts things out of there proper contexts and uses really hostile language to critique the "other side" which is basically everyone who is not a right-wing religious zealot either Jewish or Christian. ALthough it is not a poorly written book, and occasionally makes a decent point, it is nothing earth-shattering and there are definately better books about the ills of America, reading this whole thing is wasting time.

5 out of 5 stars I recommend this to every liberal I know.......2005-05-10

This book is one of the best books about the culture wars that I have read. I have recommended it to so many people. Rabbi Lapin is an observant Jew who explains why, as Jews, we should be supportive of the Evangelical Christian political viewpoint rather than fear it as Jews have done (I believe) for years. He argues that it's not Jews that Christians dislike (which many Jews believe (falsely). . . I can personally attest to this), but that it's liberals they dislike. . . with reason.

Rabbi Lapin explains that Jews and Christians share a Judeo-Christian value system which is threatened by liberal secularism. And, considering his convincing arguments and examples, one can only agree with this conclusion after reading this interesting and well-written book.

Jews and Christians raise their families in much the same way. Although our theologies differ, our value system is almost identical. Personally, I think, as Jews, we'd be better served if we could honestly recognize who our real friends are. Rabbi Daniel Lapin makes it perfectly clear who they are and who our real enemies are. Unfortunately, I think most Jews-- including my own relatives-- don't understand the truth of this yet.

I'd like to see this book rereleased and updated to include the last two elections and 9-11.

3 out of 5 stars The War is Over: the Faithless have Won.......2004-12-30

Though a refreshingly well-executed effort in light of some truly unreadable drivel that passes for intellectual discourse these days, the Rabbi's effort is, alas, in vain. The "War of Ideas" is pretty much over, at least as far as faith is concerned, and the faithless have won.

While it is admirable for the more articulate spokesmen for traditional religion to recall the founding of this country as an indication that America was not started as a secular nation, after reading enough such commentary one is eventually left with the burning question: if religion is, in fact, the backbone of a free society, why bother with the separation of Church and State?

What the Rabbi, and other conservative thinkers conveniently forget, is that while the US was founded by (and for) men who at least nominally practiced some formal faith, these were not, as the Rabbi would have us believe, religious fundamentalists, or zealots. The Founding Fathers were considerably more ambivalent about their sectarian faith (though not the formalities of such) than is the Rabbi, or for that matter folks like Pat Robertson. The genius of their effort was not in founding a society based on man's shared servitude to God, but rather one based on man's essential right to liberty, which is absolutely necessary for man to pursue his own individual goals by his own means, as an end onto himself, provided that his actions do not infringe on the rights of the others to do the same. Note that service to God does not require man to be free, since even an enslaved man can be made to worship a deity, just as he can, and has throughout history been, made to serve the wishes of the various pagan, religious, and collectivist thugs which societies that were NOT based on liberty and individual rights seem to have had no trouble producing in great abundance.

All in all, as we stand and contemplate our future in the early years of the new millennium surrounded by the various monumental achievements of mankind, we should be reminded that the greatest threat to that future is posed not by the ever-present secular evil, but by the most fundamental and, some could argue, the most internally consistent manifestation of faith and mysticism -- radical Islam. We will not be able to win the ideological war with these Islamists if our only philosophical argument remains: "our God can beat up your God".

For a healthy antidote to Rabbi's book check out the recent "The End of Faith" by Sam Harris.

4 out of 5 stars An outstanding and well-reasoned book.......2004-07-05

I purchased this book on a whim and I have to admit I did not even read what it was about. Thinking it was a treatise on the war against terror, imagine my surprise when I learned that Rabbi Lapin was addressing the cultural war that America is engaged in. Consequently, it sat in my computer on MP3 format unlistened to for several months.

It is an outstanding and well-reasoned book. Rabbi Lapin makes his points without belittling his opponents. His basic thesis is simple: The liberal left is out to de-Christianize the United States by removing any semblance of religion from the public life. Lapin argues that it is the belief in God and a strong moral sense of right and wrong that made this country great. Imagine my surprise when he argued that America was founded as a Christian nation. No, one does not have to believe in Christ to be a citizen, but that the traditional moral beliefs as stated in both the Old and New Testaments provide the moral foundation of right and wrong.

In this war, conservative Jews, evangelical Christians and conservative Catholics have much more in common that binds them together than differences that separate them. Rather than fearing conservative evangelicals, conservative Jews ought to see them as allies and friends. I have long argued with my Jewish friends that their real enemies are not conservative Christians, but liberal secularist. If there is going to be persecution of American Jews, it will not come from the religious right but liberal left. For instance, it is the conservative Christians who support Israel, whereas secular leftists have more sympathetic toward Moslem extremist in the name of cultural diversity.

His analysis of why Jews are so liberal was both insightful and fascinating. I have always wondered why American Jews have this propensity for liberalism, especially in light of the lefts sympathetic leanings toward Islamic extremists. I will take one issue with Rabbi Lapin. When one speaks of a cultural war, the object of war is to kill and defeat your enemy. When we come to the realm of ideas, I prefer to persuade people to my beliefs than to make war on them.

4 out of 5 stars A real page-turner...........2001-10-27

I absolutely loved this book and couldn't bring myself to put it down for long while I was reading it. I'm a big fan of historical fiction and I feel this book is a great example. Being a wilderness instructor in SC, we used to camp at a site called War Woman and so that is how the title was of interest to me in the first place. This book goes into great detail of War Woman's life and I feel does a good job of not glorifying her as well as demonizing her. Conley writes about Native Americans without bias and is very descriptive which allowed for me to visualize the novel while reading it. I'm looking forward to reading more of "The Real People" series in the future.

4 out of 5 stars Worthwhile Historical novel - Gripping story.......1997-12-28

The story of Whirlwind, a dynamic Indian woman who becomes War Woman and a leader of her people. The book chronicles her long life and achievements. A little redundant in parts, but well worth the read. I especially liked it because I can relate to the area, especially Dahlonaga, a neighboring town. I recommend this book to anyone interested in Indian history.

5 out of 5 stars Fascinating historical novel-a real gem.......1997-09-04

In 1580, Whirlwind, a sixteen year old Cherokee with one-quarter Spanish blood, decides she wants to meet the Europeans. She convinces her brother and a friend to escort her to Florida where she trades for firearms to help the Real People. When she returns home, her bravery is rewarded by her people who rename her War Woman. Two decades later, gold has been found on the Cherokee land. War Woman is one of the key negotiators with the perfidious Spanish, who want all that glitters in return for nothing. Still War Woman helps her people obtain a decent deal.

In 1654, War Woman leads her people into Virginia where they move into an abandoned English village. When the British return, War Woman helps her people defend their very lives against the hostile English.

WAR WOMAN, A NOVEL OF THE REAL PEOPLE is an interesting historical fiction that brilliantly chronicles three events that the author feels impacted the way of life of the Cherokee Nation in the late sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. All three events are folded around an intrepid woman, who turns the story into a moving chronicle. Robert Conley, a winner of three Spur Awards, has written his best work to date with this classic novel.

    Book Description

International scandal, undercover private investigators, shredded evidence, intimidation, and theft: all in a day's work for Brett Kingstone, author of "The Real War Against America." Kingstone tells the true story of the company he founded, Super Vision International, and its desperate struggle against Chinese counterfeiters who stole designs, equipment and profits.

When Kingstone learned that the market had been flooded with counterfeit Super Vision products, he started to fight back immediately, protecting the business he started as a 19-year-old Stanford student. With little or no help from the local police, the F.B.I. or the U.S. justice department, Super Vision gathered enough evidence to take the criminals to court with the help of private investigators posing as rich Arab sheiks. But the defendants, their lawyers and their bankers went to extremes to cover up their crimes.

In 2002, Super Vision won a $33 million verdict against the intellectual-property thieves, but Kingstone has yet to see a dime. As one expert testified in court, the defendants wired $28.5 million out of the United States before the trial "using methods consistent with money laundering."

For six years and counting, Brett Kingstone has fought against criminals who many would have simply let get away with what they had done. Kingstone stood up for himself, his company and his country. "The Real War Against America" is a riveting story and an urgent call to arms for every American citizen to fight against terrorists who do not need bullets or bombs to destroy the American dream.

    5 out of 5 stars Compelling read!.......2005-08-26

Mr. Kingstone writes a brutal book about his personal experience with international thievery, lawyers (also thieving) and our own judicial system. His positive attitude is inspiring and well worth the effort to learn of his plight. My hat is off to such an honest man who tells it like it is. Hope you get these bums Brett!

This is a must read for anyone that manufactures or creates for a living.
When you read this book, pinch yourself and remember that this is a true story even though it could have been taken from the pages of an Ian Fleming novel. America faces a very real threat today - one far more insidious and underhand than anything we see in today's headlines, yet equally as sinister and threatening to our economy and standard of living.
Small business is the engine that drives the American economy and this is one mans story of his fight to protect his business, his family and the families of those who work for him.
Far from a dull account of industrial piracy and lawsuits, the author fully involves the reader in his fight and throughout the book I was struck by his humanity and love of family and friends around him.
Whatever the color of your collar this is your fight, and it could be happening to your business or your employer right now... It probably is.

5 out of 5 stars What they are saying about "The Real War".......2005-03-15

"The story that my friend Brett Kingstone tells in The Real War Against America is as good as any spy novel you can pick up....Today, intellectual property theft costs American industry an estimated $250 billion a year. And the price tag is rising...
The dreams and imaginations of Americans is something worth fighting for. Let's hope we win this battle."
Congressman Ric Keller (R, 8th District Florida), Co-Author of the Intellectual Property Protection Act of 2002.

"At first, I thought this book was another Tom Clancy techno-thriller, then I realized it was non-fiction -- the true story of a dynamic American entrepreneur whose company was under attack by one of China's largest gang of counterfeiters. If any book about global business today should be made into a movie, The Real War Against America is it."
Professor Pat Choate, Author: Agents of Influence, Hot Properties, The High Flex Society, America in Ruins and Being Number One: Rebuilding the U.S. Economy. Director, Manufacturing Policy Project and former Vice Presidential running mate of H.Ross Perot.

"The story of Brett Kingstone and his company is far more than a high-tech Horatio Alger tale. It is an adventure which should become a case study for every business school candidate to memorize, for here lies a glimpse of the real war and its battles which can be our nation's demise."
Dwight Carey, President, APG. U.S. Congress Business of the Year Award Winner.

"Kingstone's Saga is the untold tale of intellectual property scandal in America. Piracy and counterfeiting are costing businesses billions of dollars annually in the U.S....I am mesmerized by Kingstone's spirit...he truly represents the lifeblood of American Manufacturing."

5 out of 5 stars A superb unveiling of the real Rhett & his hidden treasures........1997-03-09

An absolutely must have book for armchair adventurers, shipwreck divers, treasure hunters, and Gone With The Wind fans. The obvious amount of research that has gone into this work is staggering. This is definitely the definitive book on Civil War wrecks of the Confederate Coast. But more than that, it is extremely well written and highly interesting. Perhaps the most fascinating part of this book is the first chapter, which details the authors research and discovery of the true identity of the real Rhett Butler. His evidence is overwhelming. There is no question he has proved the identity of the true Rhett, and in doing so he has revealed a wealth of never before told details, including why Margaret Mitchell lied and claimed Rhett was pure fiction. According to Spence, Rhett was actually based on Charlestonian George Trenholm, who was tall, brave, and handsome. Trenholm made todays equivalent of over one billion dollars in just four years of blockade running. Like his fictional counterpart, Trenholm was accused of making off with the gold of the Confederate Treasury, and he really did have a beautiful, fast, young widow visit him in jail. Most of the missing treasure remains hidden to this day. I actually felt like I was diving with him when I read the exciting story of his discovery of Trenholm's wrecked blockade runner Georgiana. As if that was not enough the book includes information on another 500 Civil War shipwrecks off the coast of North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia. Although brief, each shipwreck account is complete in itself. You will also be surprised to learn the facts behind his exciting discovery of the tiny Hunley and his efforts to see that it is raised and preserved. The Hunley was the first submarine in the entire history of the world to sink an enemy ship. This unique 527 page book has over 100 photographs, drawings and maps. It is well indexed and perhaps the most thoroughly researched book I have ever seen and is thoroughly documented by well over 2,500 individually cited reference notes

          Book Description

Marketing Fear in America's Public Schools: The Real War on Literacy is an eye-opening examination of the real world consequences of the political pressures and influences on teachers today. In particular, it looks at how the political actions of the conservative right disempower and control teachers, school districts, parents, and children through an atmosphere of fear used as a strategy to ensure that schools follow the conservative political agenda supporting and imposing mandates such as increased accountability, high stakes testing, and direct intense direct-instruction phonics programs. The book offers a unique look not at not only what the conservative factions are doing but why. The volume includes chapters on:
          *resistance to the conservative agenda;
          *national and/or federal agendas and actions that directly or indirectly contribute to the privatization and corporate control of public education;
*the linkage of federal policy to the disappearance or promotion of particular philosophical and pedagogical approaches; and
*the role of the media in perpetuating the agendas of the corporate and political right.

Many teachers across the U.S. are frustrated and angry about the outside legislative constraints placed on their work, but at the same time frightened of losing their jobs and/or being faced with a lawsuit. The book's premise is that one must understand the motives behind the current educational "reforms" in order to resist them. The editors and contributors envision the volume as a voice for an alternative to compliance with unreasonable mandates--and thus as a message of hope.

Marketing Fear in America's Public Schools: The Real War on Literacy is important reading for teachers; teacher educators; education students; school administrators and other education professionals; researchers concerned with literacy, critical theory, pedagogy, and educational policy; and parents and community activists concerned with the politics of schooling and school reform. It is will serve well as a text in a range of courses across the field of education.
