Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

The Modern New Testament from Aramaic.......2007-05-25
Dr.Lamsa's credentials are above reproach. I have used and valued his Old & New Testaments which I have owned for over 30 yrs since my seminary days. And, I have preached from it recently, and it has been well received as a source book, despite the conflicts with Greek and Western thought. Truth always prevails and this version is chocked full of truth. It is, [The Modern New Testament from Aramaic] highly enlightening and credible. A foundational work which can be totally relied on to be confirmable in it's verasity. It is by far my personal favorite Bible since I can throughly trust it to be well researched and documented.

If your a Cristian, you must read this translation. It cuts out the middleman and makes the meanings of obscure passages more clear. Thank you Dr. Lamsa
Scholarship geared to the traditional.......2006-11-05
Brilliant scholar translates scripture, warning in the preface of its natural, multiple meanings. However, the resulting text does not give the flavor of alternate meanings he suggested would come. Very traditional result of what could have been a valuable tool for growth and healing.
Very Good & poor.......2006-11-04
Good translation of the Syriac NT. The explanatory articles, comparative verses, and concordance are very good. Perfect binding left much to be desired. Book came damaged.

This impressive reference work is a must for any student of the Scriptures. Using Strong's numbering system, readers can study any Greek word from the ancient Bible manuscripts without knowing the Greek language! Designed specifically for English readers, the Word Study Greek-English New Testament uses the UBS Greek text and comes complete with a full Greek/English concordance based on the New Revised Standard Version.

Essential For Every Serious Believer.......2007-05-18
If you really want to understand the New Testament you need an easy way to find the original Greek word behind the words you read in English and then, a list of quotations in English of all the contexts in the New Testament where that particular Greek word is employed. That is exactly what this book efficiently does. This is probably the most valuable "next book" beyond the New Testament itself.
Clearing up grey areas.......2007-03-11
This book has really helped me in my bible studies to get the most accurate translation, from the original spoken language of the bible to english. Example, Baptism is a translation of the true meaning immerse.
Word Study Greek-English New Testament.......2006-03-16
Eric Campbell recommended and I agree.
Another great interlinear is Comfort's, that one is much more handy (small & compact) -- a nice little hard cover, great for quick reference.
With McReynold's you get the most bang for your buck, but with comfort you get a more readable/understandable translation in a much more compact size.
I would suggest getting both McReynold's and Comfort's......they work well together, and both choose many differnt words when translating the greek (it's nice to see the difference)
Both really great resources for learning the NT Greek. I would also recommend Mounce's "Basics of Biblical Greek Grammar" and the workbook.
6 Star Book -- Best N.T. English bible (No O. T.).......2004-05-11
I have in my personal library (hardback and electronic) 70+ bible translations from Hebrew, Greek, Latin to English, German, French, etc. I use the 100% free downloadable E-Sword program (www.e-sword.net) that has 67 Bibles 27 English & 40 Foreign (Asian, European, African, North/South Americas, & Australia) including Greek/Hebrew MSS of Critical, Majority, and Textus Receptus; 15 Commentaries (e.g., Matthew Henry); 13 Dictionaries/Encyclopedias (e.g., Vine's); 7 Graphics (e.g., Rev. Larkin's "Dispensational Truth"); 37 Christian Classic Books (e.g., John Calvin's "Institutes of Christian Religion"; 3 Devotions (e.g., Spurgeon's "Morning & Evening"). In addition, I have used hardback Interlinear Bibles (Marshall's, McReynold's) as well as those on E-Sword.
After taking Greek Courses online, I have found the YLT is the most-accurate/best of all English Bibles Old and New Testament (w/ Darby a close 2nd) of all time-- better than ASV 1901, NASB, NKJV, or any other formal/literal translation.
Dynamic translations are not as accurate, but readable (e.g., NIV, RSV, NLT); however, the interlinear translations (Young's, Green's, Darby's, McReynold's, Marshall's, Morris') are the most accurate than the formal translation (KJV, NKJV, NASB). Dynamic translation translates using a "thought-for-thought" methodology whereby the translator "translates" as well as "interprets" the bible. This allows the "translators" to become "commentators" whereby he/she can interject (consciously or unconsciously) his/her doctrinal bias which are not supported/found in the Original Greek and Hebrew O.T. and N.T. The Formal and Interlinear/Literal translations translate using a "word-for-word" method whereby the translator "translates" only. This prevents him/her from interpreting or inputting any doctrinal bias not found in Original Word of God (Greek and Hebrew Manuscripts). The Interlinear translation is more accurate than the Formal because it follows the Greek Grammar and Syntax (word order), while the Formal follows more of an English Grammar and Syntax to improve readability, but at the cost of pin-point accuracy. The Interlinear translation has the Greek text with his translation underneath each Hebrew & Greek word.
So after comparing for the 5+ years the following Interlinear translations of Old & New Testament [Jay P. Green's LITV, Zondervan' s Parallel N.T. by Alfred Marshall, Young's Literal Translation (YLT), Analytical-Literal Translation (ALT), Darby's Translation, Morris's Literal Translation] as well as formal translations (ASV, Amplified Bible, NASB, NASB update, NKJV, MKJV) with respect to the Greek and Hebrew, YLT is the best with Darby's as a strong 2nd place. Because it follows the Hebrew and Greek Grammar and Syntax the best of all.
The only disadvantage of YLT is that it does not use the latest Critical Texts as NASB. However, the Textus Receptus (YLT, KJV) and Critical Text (NASB, NRSV, NIV) agree 99.9% in the text and the footnotes at the bottom of NIV, NASB, and NRSV, since all include the ending of Mark 16 and John 8 adulteress woman. Anyway, Darby supplements the difference between Majority text vs. Critical text if one is picky in this respect. [NOTE: McReynold's Interlinear is the BEST N.T. translation than even YLT or Darby's; however, it does not do the Old Testament!]
If you have any further questions, e-mail me at wjcharliee@hotmail.com and put in the Subject Line: "E-sword".
McReynolds Book One of the Best.......2004-04-30
The book "Word Study Greek-English New Testament" by Paul R. McReynolds was an indispensable tool used in my Th.D. dissertation! In particular is the author's correct description of the Greek word "eis" which was central to my thesis.
Also helpful was his use of incorporating Strong's Exhaustive Concordance numbering system.
I strongly recommend the McReynolds book to anyone seriously interested in Biblical study!

A Solid Bible, but not for research.......2007-09-04
Some that have been critical of this bible I feel miss who J.B. Phillip's intended audience was. Let me allow him to speak for himself through his introduction.
Preface to The Student Edition, " When I began the work of translating Paul's epistles in 1941 I certainly had no idea that my efforts would be published or that I should eventually translate the whole New Testament.I wrote for young people who belonged to my youth group, most of them not much above school leaving age, and I undertook the work simply because I found the Authorized Version was not intelligible to them. My primary aim was not in any sense to compete with the version of 1611, but to communicate to young people inspired truths of which they were almost entirely ignorant."
J.B. Phillips brought his work of The New Testament to print to bring God's Word to those who would other wise not understand it. In my opinion that makes him a great man, and I find value in this Bible. I don't think it's perfect, and I don't feel it should be used for in depth study (there are better bibles out there for that). Having said that I have met ministers and well informed church members who highly value this bible. It's fantastic for reading the bible for pure pleasure (which I feel is it's primary benefit), and not for study in my humble opinion.
I rate it four out of five stars because I don't feel it should be used in depth bible study. However, that should not diminish it's value to it's intended audience.
Intresting...........2007-09-04
Not a perfect translation, but a useful paraphrase of the New Testament that will stir your mind, and hopefully reveal the "the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ." (2 Cor. 4:6)
The New Testament in Modern English.......2007-01-19
Corrie ten Boom ( A Dutch Missionary ) opened my eyes to this wonderful translation in one of her talks. It has not left my hands since then. I have other good translations ( highly valued and read and scribbled in ) but these modern words open your ears and reveal and enlighten and make you understand. What a schock. Thank you J.B. Phillips - Thank you so much..

The best modern language translation.......2007-01-15
Phillips notes that since the NT was written in everyday Greek, we need to read it in everyday English. He honors the beauty of the King James Version, but notes that much of its vocabulary and even its cadence is out of date. There are other modern language translations available these days, but none matches Phillips' in the cogency, thoughtfulness, and depth of understanding. I read Greek myself, and while I would not agree with Phillips' translations at every point, it is clear that he has taken the time to engage thoughtfully and carefully with the text. Reading this translation helps me to discover new insights and new perspectives on well known passages of scripture.
It's the Word of God! It is the best!.......2006-07-31
It's the Word of God! It is the best! This translation is awesome and the story behind its creation should be in Acts. I only wish he put the verse numbers in.

Book Description
For over a century, Thayer's has been lauded as one of the best New Testament lexicons available. Both accessible and thorough, it is a work suited for the student of New Testament Greek. Thayer's provides dictionary definitions for each word and relates each word to its New Testament usage and categorizes its nuances of meaning. Its exhaustive coverage of New Testament Greek words, as well as its extensive quotation of extra-biblical word usage and the wealth of background sources consulted and quoted, render Thayer's an invaluable resource.

Perfect for me.......2007-07-12
I am not an expert. I could figure it out pretty easily. I can't read greek. Didn't seem to matter. I can identify numbers and for the most part they don't vary too much from the order one usually expects in numbers. Quite nice, really. But I am not an expert, or I would probably be more fussy.
Thayer is a thumbs up!.......2007-01-10
Great work. Very useful to me. I am pleased with the design and layout.
Still Useful!.......2006-10-22
Granting the age on Thayer's and the recent advancement in lexicography, I will say that there are better works available than Thayer's (e.g, BDAG). But I still find Thayer's to be useful in some places.
Keep your Thayer's and make references when you can, but do not make it your primary tool. You need to trust more recent scholarship.
Thayer is No Longer Relevant. But..........2005-06-02
Thayer went great lengths to produce an excellent lexical resource. Many would agree. But shortly after publishing, his book became outdated. Koine Greek was no longer viewed as a Holy Spirit invention (which was thought for a long time since scholars could not find 10% of the NT vocabulary in secular writings until about the last century). Since Thayer's release, Koine lexicography has taken great strides and has since left this dictionary far behind (see "Greek Grammar Beyond the Basics" by Daniel B. Wallace).
One positive of Thayer's dictionary is his study of etymology. Understanding how words form is very helpful in vocabulary memorization. But I'll add a word of caution illustrated by this short etymology lesson: "Butterfly" does not mean "a fly made of butter."
As words evolve (or devolve), they do not always retain their meanings. Koine vocabulary is an example that has been required to simplify in order to be accepted by various cultures. The words will not always fit etymological patterns or classical definitions.
Why then is Thayer's still so popular? It's cheap. It's public domain. And it's easy to use. Purchase at your own risk.

Thayer is a trusted friend.......2004-03-23
Although I have both Arndts and Thayers lexicons, I find myself reaching again and again for Thayers. After almost thirty years of ministry and Bible study, my well-worn copy of Thayers Lexicon is a trusted friend. It is simple and easy to use. The definitions, unlike Arndts, are briefer and to the point, dealing almost exclusively with Biblical definitions. More importantly, it can be trusted to give you accurate definitions without falling prey to the influence of modern cults.
Unfortunately, in the attempt to be politically correct and to avoid being labled intolerant, Biblical scholars are under tremendous pressure to bow to non-classical definitions of Greek words to reflect, or at least include, cultic definitions. Of course, a working knowledge of Greek is needed to use this book.

If you like the Good News for Modern Man version and are learning German, this would be good for you. The Gute Nachricht is to German very much what Good News for Modern Man is to English.

Pocket Dictionary for the Study of New Testament Greek
ASIN: 052181815X |
Book Description
This Dictionary provides students, pastors, and others with an invaluable source of word meanings and English glosses for the entire vocabulary of the Greek New Testament. In addition to reflecting the complete range of semantic uses and nuances, it identifies the part of speech, lists cognate key words, notes principal parts for each verb, and cites the NT reference for each word used only once.
Customer Reviews:
One of the handiest tools for readers and translators of the Greek New Testament.......2006-09-28
Warren Trenchard has performed a great service for readers of the Greek New Testament with this slim but comprehensive volume. Trenchard includes every word that occurs in the Greek NT and provides multiple definitions for many words, lists cognate words, identifies the part of speech, and lists the principal parts of each verb; in addition, he also provides common idioms that are encountered in the GNT among the word definitions. You can't ask much more from a 177-page paperback. No, this will by no means replace BDAG and it doesn't aspire to do so; BDAG is much more comprehensive and cites many more examples. However, Trenchard's slender volume is much more convenient to take along wherever you go and the information it gives you will suffice until you can consult BDAG or TDNT for the full scope of a word.
