Theatre Teachers: This Is What You Need.......2006-11-10
This book is formatted so easily, it took me MUCH less time than I thought it would to prepare a unit on reader's theatre for my class. I used it for my high school theatre class so they wouldn't have to concentrate on large vocabularies, but rather to deliver the story in a simple, easy way. It was a HUGE success of a project and this book made it possible. It tells you how long each story is, what cast you'll need, and what reading level it is!! Yay!!!
The stories themselves are entertaining (even for high school!!!), compelling, and really fun to work with. I am SO grateful I ordered this!
A Great Resource.......2006-01-11
Aaron Shepard is a generous contributor to the field of Reader's Theatre. This book is no exception. It's well-laid out and chock-full of interesting scripts. I've recommended to several folks interested in RT.
Clear and Helpful.......2006-01-11
This book was written in clear language. It was helpful to me as a novice.

Book Description
A True Fairy Tale
Cinderella is a great story, but after the last page is turned, little girls can’t look forward to the tale coming true when they grow up. It’s just “for pretend.” Now girls ages four to nine can unveil the reality of their royal calling! His Little Princess shows them that they are not pretend princesses…because God is for real! When a grown-up sits down to read out loud these touching love letters, girls will come to understand and embrace how much they are truly loved and adored by God, the King of kings!
A Daughter of the King
Every little girl dreams of being a princess. And for the one who trusts in God, the Word heralds a most beautiful truth: She is the chosen daughter of the King of all kings. She is a true princess!
Here is a majestic gift for that special young one in your life—personal letters written from her King. Each day a new letter will inspire her to live and act like the radiant princess she is!
Story Behind the Book
“If we can help our daughters learn from a young age that they are God’s chosen princesses, we will help them to win the identity struggles they will face as teens. While we have influence in their lives, we need to deposit in their hearts and minds how much they are loved and how important they are in God’s kingdom. This book will give girls godly confidence that they are chosen by the King of all kings. Read one each day to them and watch them grow into the princesses they are destined to be!”

Customer Reviews:
A WONDERFUL, "must-have" book for young girls!.......2007-07-23
Rarely do I ever just go on and on about a book as I read tons and our family/kids love to read as well, but this is the most precious book for young girls and their relationship to God you will EVER find. It is a WONDERFUL, WONDERFULLY touching book that is full of truth and may have you in tears as the love of God for your daughter just pours out of each page.
Each page is set up with God's letter from Him to her on the left side along with a verse, and her prayer in response on the right. There are quite a few pages and it is bound well and beautifully printed.
Perfect for reading at night to your child rather than just giving to them to read on their own, it's one-page 'chapters' are perfect for bedtime, or before prayers, or as a mother or dad devotional time with your child. My daughter actually asked me to read it with her at bedtime - Me reading the God portions and her the prayers in response.
You might worry that this is just another "Prncess-marketing gimmick book" to make money ala Disney, but that couldn't be farther from the truth! This is the meat of God's word and His desire to know your little girl...It will cause her to read the Bible and want to know God better. I too, worried a bit that it would follow that same, self-centered, "You are my princess" theme that we are always fighting against, but soon realised that this book offers many of it's own correctives to this kind of thinking. Good of the author to realise this and address it early on!
We are so looking forward to the boys version, "God's Mighty Warrior" that should be coming out soon by the same author. If you have boys it will probably be as good as this one! Buy it, read it, give tons of them away. It is easily the best $$ I have spent on a book in a long time.
His Mighty Warrior: A Treasure Map from Your King
Thank you Sheri for a wonderful book!!!
A Treasure!.......2007-05-09
An invaluable tool to teach a girl to love the Word of God. Each section is a letter from God (the King) to his daughter (the princess). Each is based on a scripture that teaches about Godly character and ends with a prayer. I've found it a wonderful way to teach my daughter to understand God's Word and treasure it as well. A must-read for every true princess!
EXCELLENT!!!!.......2007-03-08
What a great book! Tell your little girl that she is God's little princess. NOT A PRETEND PRINCESS! We are all God's princesses! My twin girls love it, they are 6 years old. It's almost like a bible study for little girls. A++++
His Little Princess.......2007-01-21
I would highly recommend this book for young girls. Very encouraging and uplifting.

And old- fashioned view of the American Civil War and human nature.......2007-02-19
This book was written not long after the end of the Am. Civil War. My mother was fond of the book and it was part of my growing up, so I think i am a little biased about it. It is probably not Great Literature, but it is well-written and entertaining. It tells the story of a Kentucky mountain-boy (from the little "town" of Kingdom Come) who finds his way into an affluent, slave-owning blue-grass community just before the Civil War breaks out. It is historical fiction and offers some insights into both the period of the Civil War and human nature in general --from a late 19th century point of view. Lots of sterotypes here: the uneducated but pure mountain boy; the beautiful, untamed moutain girl; the polished and fragile southern belle; etc, and these can seem simplistic and maybe offensive to modern readers, but the steriotypes are part of the point of view that makes the book an interesting historical statement, in my opinion.
Beautiful, descriptive, classic..........2006-08-23
When I was 7 years old, my Mom packed my brother and I in our station wagon and drove us from Florida to Texas to live with my grandparents. Along the way and during our stay in Texas, she read to us every night from a book that has become one of my all-time favorites -- "The Little Shepherd of Kingdom Come." As a child, I recall loving the relationship between Chad, a waif of a shepherd boy, and his faithful dog, Jack. But as an adult, I have fallen in love with the rich, descriptive language with which John Fox fills every page. Each character rings true, and I have found myself anxious to see what lies around each bend in the storyline. Now, as a parent, I am reading the book to my own 8-year-old daughter. She doesn't quite grasp all of the rich prose, but she is already falling in love with Jack, and she's hoping that Chad and Melissa will one day marry. As much as I enjoyed the book as a child and as an adult, it's a privilege to introduce it to the next generation of my family. I highly recommend it as an unsung classic of the early 20th century.
Endearing novel -- must read!.......2003-02-20
My 75-year-old father remembered this book from when he was a teenager--it made an unforgetable impression! I highly recommend this novel for several reasons: lovalable and believable characters (although the lead can do no wrong to an exaggerated point), well-flowing and interesting story that you can't predict (I like suspensefulness), beautifully described setting, historically set in Civil War Kentucky. I bought a copy for myself and then bought one to share with my family and another for a friend. I will save this for my pre-school aged children to read when they are older.
The Trail of the Lonesome Pine~.......2002-11-11
The Trail of the Lonesome Pine takes place in the Kentucky mountains, bordering Big Stone Gap, Virginia. It is a story of love, as well as change. At the heart of this novel are the Tolliver & Falin families, who have been in a feud with one another for as far back as anyone can remember. The story begins as life in the mountains is beginning to change..coal mining is starting to boom, and the oustide world is creeping into the simple ways of mountain life. A town is blossoming in Big Stone Gap Virginia..and the Trail of the Lonesome Pine connects the town with Lonesome Cove, home of the Tolliver family, and a pretty little mountain girl named June. When John Hale enters the Tolliver/Falin territory, June is immediately drawn to him. The entrance of this "furriner" will change June's life forever.
Not being from the region that the Trail of the Lonesome Pine is written about, I was definitely reading it from a "furriner" point of view. The Trail of the Lonesome Pine is really two stories in one. Part of this novel is a love story, centering on a young girl, June Tolliver & her love interest John Hale, the "furriner." The other side of this novel focuses on what life is like for the "mountain people" and the effects of the coal mining boom, and the influx of foreigners into their way of life. Both stories are very interesting and blend well together. At times though, I felt the writing was hard to get through and difficult to follow. The last 1/4 of the book really picked up, and by the time the story concluded, I was glad that I read this and look forward to reading more by John Fox, Jr.
Little Shepherd of Kingdom Come by John Fox Jr.......2001-09-28
This book shows the mtn and city people in Kentucky as they go through the Civil War. However, my favorite part is at the end, when young Chad chooses to leave the area and go the westward way, to start all over again. When I was 15, I decided not to marry but rather to start all over again like Chad did. I'm grateful to John Fox Jr for showing me that choice.

Book Description
This sweet retelling of the Parable of the Good Shepherd uses hide-and-seek imagery through a child's eyes. One child holding a stuffed lamb hides, while another child patiently seeks, all day, over and around, up and down. The simple text conveys the message that each of us is worthy of God's love; each of us is worthy of being found. By using children as both shepherd and lamb, there's also the implicit message that we must care for each other as God cares for us. The depth of God's love for them will make little readers feel special--a wonderful way to boost self-esteem as well. In addition, the endearing photos invite kids to participate actively by pointing out where the little lamb is hiding in each scene. For all Christian denominations, children ages 0 to 5.

Customer Reviews:
We love our "My First Read and Learn Bible" and this is a nice companion........2007-04-27
We have this and the "My First Read and Learn Bible" which my daughter really loves. She specifically requests it over and over at bedtime. I actually like the artwork... it's very simple and not over-the-top cheesy. The pastel quilt on the cover is a bit babyish for my taste. The words are not printed on a solid color background as they are in the My First R&L Bible, and they are in different fonts making it slightly trickier for a young reader to decipher I'd wager.
I'm giving it 4-stars instead of 5 because it's a book of prayers and you can't sit down to read it like a story. I've never found books with rhyming prayers an interesting read, personally. But it will probably be nice for a reading child to read for themselves and certainly is a nice companion to our "R&L Bible" book found here: My First Read And Learn Bible
There are a lot of goofy bible kiddie books on the market that I really don't care for. But this one is simple and to the point. I like the simple language because she can easily memorize the words and I can fill in with my own details of the story when I want to. I also like that it's a board book because it's durable and the pages are easy for a toddler to turn.
The front and back cover are padded, which is a nice touch.
I'm back online today to purchase any companion books because we love our R&L Bible so much. I'm going to purchase the "My First Bible Hardcover" (ISBN 0439651263) found here: Read And Learn Bible

This delightful little book shows how to attract beneficial wildlife and choose useful plants that will help rule out the need for chemicals in the garden. - the earthworm soil improver
- the honey-bee pollinator
