An important chapter in the history of Magneto.......2005-11-23
This story is quite different form most other X-Men collections in that most of its chapters are only loosely inter-related, and by far the main character is Magneto as opposed to the heroes themselves. This tale had been brewing in the X-Men and related books for quite some time, and mainly picks up the saga of Magneto, their greatest rival, following the events in (New) X-Men #s1-3 (collected in X-Men: Mutant Genesis), which is considered by many to be one of the greatest X-Men stories of all time (art and writing both).
The story is choppy due its determined effort to keep the focus on the leading characters of the titles in which each chapter first appeared in terms of their reaction to the latest (with many more to follow) resurrection of Magneto. Before Magneto make is return public, the Acolytes, mutants who follow (the memory of) Magneto with religious zeal battle X-Factor following their horrific slaughter of hospital patients, and make a failed attempt to draft his son, Quicksilver. The self-styled mutant messiah has developed a god-complex, and seeks to save the uninfected and those he see as worthy mutants from the ravages of the legacy virus unleashed by Stryfe at the end of the X-Cutioners Song story-line. To do this, he has salvaged the Celestial starship that once house Apocalypse, X-Factor and more recently Cable, a sort of improved Asteroid M. A new group of Acolytes is gathered around him, Fabian Cortez's treachery is revealed, and the mysterious and powerful Exodus serves as his herald.
Magneto goes about his quest as self appointed savior of mutant kind and as expected butt heads with the X-Men and all related parties. Several X-Men suffer tremendously at his hands, but in the end Xavier is forced to make a rash decision that will have dire repercussions in the days to come.
Up sides: Magneto took Xavier's role as headmaster of the school for a time, when he had reformed, and mentored the New Mutants. His confrontation with X-Force addresses this major and mostly forgotten piece of X-Men history, as well as addressing the relationship between Cable and the ship that was once his that Magneto claimed for his own. Later, when Magneto crashes Illyana's funeral at the Xavier estate, a long time X-Man and fan favorite turns his back on the X-Men and joins Magneto.
Down sides: The action involving Magneto directly is muted and extremely brief. The effort to bring in every X-Men related title of the day was pretty hit-or-miss; some stories were just brilliant while others seemed forced efforts, at best. Yet the only real problem I have with Fatal Attractions is how Wolverine was tampered with unnecessarily. What he suffered at the hands of Magneto was brutal and innovative (although when it happened I was not too pleased with the tampering in the essential fabric of one of the major X-Men characters) it was just a rehashing of the worn-out thread of making him more savage and blah blah... I think this was about the third or fourth time his humanity was diminished in as many years, and had run its course as an interesting characterization ploy. From a distance and in the context of this collection alone, it's not so bad, but in the overall scheme it's just beating a dead horse. "Its time of year again, Wolverine needs to be more savage!"
Overall, this is a great story, and fans of Magneto will greatly appreciate it, while fans of Wolverine might enjoy it less so. However, it is by far not one of the best X-Men stories out there, and those who are new-commers or not hard core fans will be a little lost as it draws from and bridges several other stories that for the most part do not show up in other collected editions, rather than being self-contained.
Sefa's Review.......2004-03-19
X-men fatal attractions was a wonderful book and I liked it a lot, Marvel does a wonderful job in bringing out the action in this book and keeping me at the edge of my seat. This book puts an interesting perspective on being normal; it makes you think "what does normal really mean?" and if it's something you want to be. If you're into X-men books then this is the perfect book for you. But my favorite part of the book is the artwork. I don't know how the illustrator does it but the artwork is just amazing to look at. I would give this book a four out of five. This book begins with the son of magneto, Quicksilver, joining the X -men in a battle against his father's follower's the Acolytes. Quicksilver doesn't want to believe in the dream that his father laid down for him but then something happens so unexpected that I'm going to make you finish the book now (lots of Laughs) hehehehehehehehehe.fi
One of the most dramatic stories in X-Men history.......2003-10-02
Fatal Attractions collects X-Factor #92, X-Force #25, Uncanny X-Men #304, X-Men #25, Wolverine #75, and Excalibur #71. When Magneto returns to his Acolytes and becomes more of a threat to humanity than ever before, all of the X-teams become engaged in battle in this then shocking cross over; the effects of which were felt in the X-books for almost a decade. Many memorable moments are to be found here including the fight between Magneto and Cable which leaves Cable a bloody, ripped apart mess, Colossus betraying the X-Men and siding with Magneto, Magneto ripping the adamantium out of Wolverine's body, and the final showdown between Magneto and Professor X; the culmination of which would create the Onslaught storyline years later which crossed through every Marvel title and caused the deaths of the Avengers, Captain America, Iron Man, the Fantastic Four, and countless other heroes. If your interested in picking this collection up, I'd go for the single issues (each of which had really cool covers with an attached hologram card) instead of this TPB. All in all, this is one of the most dramatic X-stories in years, and undoubtadly one of the best.
One of the most dramatic stories in X-Men history.......2002-08-19
I can still remember the shock and amazement on my face nearly ten years ago when this storyline appeared in the X-titles. Here we see the return of Magneto, the greatest enemy of the X-Men, ready to bring his plan of mutant domination to a head. Dramatic moments are aplenty here, most of which would effect all the X-titles until the end of the decade. The scenes of seeing Magneto using his power to rip the adamantium out of Wolverine's body still gives me chills, not to mention the unforgettable final battle between Professor X and Magneto, the culmination of which would later go on in the "Onslaught" storyline that would cross through nearly every Marvel Comics title and cause the death of Avengers and Fantastic Four. All in all, "Fatal Attractions" may not be the best X-Men TPB to get, but it is very dramatic and completely unforgetable.
Book Description
Get practical, biblical definitions of what sexual sin is and why it is more damaging than other sins. Whether you want your perspectives on sexual purity validated or whether you are searching for healing from past sexual inequities, Fatal Attractions is the book for you. Pastor Hayford identifies sex sins as worse than other sins not because they are harder for God to forgive, but because they are more damaging at personal and social levels than other sins. It is not the act of sex itself but the flippancy of one-night stands, the viewing of pornography and the engaging of the mind in sexual fantasies that most drastically turn our sight from God. Join Pastor Hayford in this down-to-earth, up-front discussion on human sexuality. This is a chance to align your perspective with God's, seeing humanity and sexuality through biblical lenses.

Hope for the beleagured.......2007-05-18
I have used and read many books as a part of my ministry to those who struggle with issues of sexuality, both in the realm of addictions and as a marriage counselor. This book has proven to be very helpful, as it is very accessible, and goes straight to the point. It is an encouraging book. If you are looking for something that can be used quickly to dispel the notion that sexual misbehavior is no big deal, and still encourage the person that there is another better way, this is the book to get.
This book is written from a strictly Christian worldview, a strength in my understanding.
Buy it for your Pastor or Youth Pastor!.......2007-05-13
I bought this book by Jack Hayford because I was researching the Biblical answer to how the church should react to a preacher/minister who is exposed as having fallen into sexual sin. Something on the web caused me to believe Hayford had written about this, and had refuted the idea that a man of God only had to repent to be restored to the pulpit. So I bought this book hoping that it included that particular discussion.
It does not. However, I'm still very glad I bought the book because it contains a great wealth of instruction. The title however is somewhat misleading, because Hayford makes it clear that sex sins are no harder for God to forgive than any other sins. His point is that sex sins do more damage than other sins - to the person committing the sin, to any children that result, to anyone infected by a sexually transmitted disease, to the church, and to the world.
There is a beautiful balance between the teaching that sex sins are very damaging, and the Biblical teaching that the church is to welcome and nurture those who are the perpetrators and/or victims of sex sins. I highly recommend this book. Every Pastor and Youth Pastor should read it and start preaching and teaching what's in this book.
Incisive, hopeful and helpful.......2006-09-12
In my former position I served as publisher of Regal Books, the publisher of this fine book. Though I acquired this book, which was conceived in 1991 over a lunch with Pastor Jack Hayford, I left Regal before the book was published 15 years later! And though I now work for another publishing house, I will quickly and readily recommend this excellent little book for anyone struggling with sexual issues who is committed to breaking free from bondage.
Husbands and single men: This book helps you identify the problem you, a loved one, or friend are dealing with, and gives specific, biblical solutions based in Christ's strength and grace.
Wives and single women: This book will also help those of you struggling with sexual problems, and is also a great resource to give to a friend or loved one in need.
This is not a "pray more and read your Bible more and the probleme will go away" quick-fix book. And though prayer and biblical meditation are keys to sexual healing, the book also offers a sensitive, positive tone and plan for breaking free and becoming who you were intended to be in Christ.
I am thrilled to see this long-time-coming resource finally available to readers everywhere.
A Must-Own.......2004-11-19
This is a cogent and powerful guiding word from a father in the faith who's had to help many men recover, and/or many of their wives overcome. I have given away hundreds of copies of this book, mostly to pastors.

Not The Usual..........2003-04-03
This book was better than the last but in my opinion, it didn't live up to what I normally expect from the "Hot Blood" series. The collection of short stories managed to keep my attention but failed to keep me up at night. *laugh
More of a Literary "Cold Shower" than Steamy Literature.......2003-03-04
The lastest collection of stories by authors Gelb and Garrett is a real mixed-bag of so-called erotic horror stories. The anthology begins with three or four stories detailing the deviant side of sexual horror. Hardly anything to get your pulse racing.
These stories are followed by a short group of stories that, in my mind, could more aptly be called erotic horror as these stories dwell upon themes based on romantic relationships, rather than deviant behavior. From this point on, the stories fall into the just plain weird category.
If you're a fan of the earlier books in the original series, I doubt that you'll find this collection to be a worthwhile addition to your library.
Hotter by the Story.......2003-02-26
This new anthology from Jeff Gelb and Michael Garrett stands right up there with the others in this series of erotic horror. Fatal Attraction fields a great line up of award winning pros and new names in the horror genre. The stories run the gamit from fetishes to shooting stars with a nice selection of blood and bodily fluids to keep things lubed up. These stories will keep coming back around to haunt your thoughts and pique your imagination as you contemplate new ways to spice up your own sex life.
New publisher Kensington Books has made an attractive book that will stand up nicely with the others in this horrifically steamy series.
THE BEST YET?.......2003-02-08
It's great to see the Hot Blood series back in action after ten previous volumes. Love the larger size of the book. Some familiar names here, including Max Allan Collins, Graham Masterton, David Schow, Nancy Holder and Brian Hodge deliver their usual excellent work. Director Mick Garris has a wild story involving the movie industry. And about half the book is stories by female writers, who offer uniquely erotic viewpoints. Gelb and Garrett may have given us the best Hot Blood volume ever - welcome back!

There are two widely held scientific theories concerning the origin of the human species. One posits a single cradle, generally thought to be in Africa, in which Homo sapiens originated. This dominant theory is assisted by its charismatic spokesmodel Eve, a fictitious personification of a DNA strain that some scientists argue indicates a unique source for the Earth's human population. The other, decidedly less popular theory is known as multiregionalism. Multiregionalists argue that populations may have originated in Africa, but these populations migrated to distant regions where the human species developed and took on different characteristics, known to scientists as biological diversity but more conventionally referred to as different races. This divide is obviously controversial, and it is not always the steady eye of science that influences which model is deemed correct (or at least politically correct). After all, one model promises a scientific verification of our common humanity, the other, interpreted too loosely, could result in a scientific rationale that hardens concepts of racial difference.
Anthropological researchers (and husband and wife) Milford Wolpoff and Rachel Caspari have written
Race and Human Evolution as an accessible introduction to the debates over the origins of the human species that makes a careful and detailed case for multiregionalism. Much of the authors' effort is directed at separating their scientifically sound position from the racist legacy of earlier theories of polygenism, which argued that races were genetically isolated. They also mount compelling arguments that the "single source of humanity" camp has succeeded thanks to good marketing rather than hard or conclusive data. Their book proves not only an interesting introduction to anthropological debates, it also reflects the way a scientific thesis is formulated, developed, and defended in the media-savvy late 20th century.

Genetics AND skeletal studies BOTH have their place........2004-11-09
This book accurately portrays the skeletal evidence for human origins, in the context of the Multi-regional theory of human evolution. In this respect it's typical Wolpoff & his usual high standard of excellence, "nuff said. What REALLY needs commentary is the major misconception several reviewer have posted. DNA data has NOT "blown skeletal studies out of the water". We now know that mtDNA AND Y-chromosome lineages ARE HIGHLY subject to natural selection, which means that selective processes CAN (& WILL) cause "lineage replacement" in populations. The multi-regional theory REQUIRES geneflow between regional populations, and even miniscule levels of geneflow will introduce "new" lineages, that can replace the earlier lineages in that population. Selective advantages of as little as hundredths of a percent, and "once in a century" geneflow between adjacent populations, WILL result in total worldwide replacement of lineages within a 100,000-150,000 year period WITHOUT significantly affecting the rest of the genepool. So yes, lineage studies DO "show" that we all share common mtDNA & Y-chromosome ancestors within the last 50-250,000 years (depending on which mutation rate estimate is used), but this actually FITS the predictions of the multi-regional model (for that matter, some mutation rate estimates give calculations that ALLOW descent from regional Homo erectus populations). And.... autosomal DNA studies REVEAL ancient regional population structuring for most genes that goes back as much as a million years, but more recent structuring for other genes, which is ALSO exactly what you'd expect under multi-regionalism's "geneflow & spread of advantageous genes" expectation.... but NOT what would be expected of a human population that recently spread out of Africa. So look at ALL the data INCLUDING BOTH the skeletal (which this book is excellent on) AND the DNA side of things (sadly, I've seen no single comprehensive reference on this aspect) before making up your mind. I suggest you read this book AND search pubmed for scientific papers covering the full spectrum of DNA study interpretations.
Don't waste time - money.......2003-11-14
This book is a rehash of previous statements and out-dated concepts. As one reviewer has already noted, the molecular data and its interpretation (both mtDNA and RNA) makes this book redundant. Also the discussion of the fossil evidence fails to examine issues of function and developmental processes, which can have a significant impact on morphological form. As such, their implied 'evolutionary trends' within and between hominin groups are just as likley the result of convergence - anatomical analogies (i.e., homoplasies)
The dedication says it all:
"To Franz Weidenreich. He understood"
oh, to be a voice in the wilderness....
Required Reading.......2000-10-08
The debate between multiregional evolution vs. the replacement model continues unabated, and naturally, not without certain biases muddling the understanding of the interested lay-reader. Wolpoff and Caspari do an excellent job of presenting the historical foundations for the intellectual biases AND the over-simplified misunderstandings of multiregional evolution perpetuated by the popular media which are responsible for the ongoing confusion regarding this debate. Human evolution is NOT a simple matter easily reduced to one or two easy-to-manage ideas. The replacement model is well addressed in the text and is shown to be easier to comprehend than the multiregional model, which explains the media's favoratism for the former. The technical information provided favoring both views is carefully presented and explained, and the reader is left with the task of making up his/her own mind. An approach of which I approve. Balancing this text with those of Dr. C. Stringer and Prof. Rushton (another review on this site) is recommended for even treatment. Were I teaching a course in paleoanthroplogy, I would certainly make Wolpoff & Caspari's book required reading.
A layman's guide to the multiregional theory.......1997-03-06
To begin with, there is a lot of trash out there posing as explanations of human evolution. Wolpoff and Caspari's book is NOT one of these. The authors take pains to explain what multiregional evolution is NOT, namely, the multiple origin of humanity. Like just about everyone else, they contend that humans originated in Africa. However, they build a persuasive case that (a) there is no such species as Homo erectus, and (b) that the earliest Homo sapiens left Africa some two million years ago. Whether or not one agrees with this scenario, it makes interesting and informative reading, and I believe is a must for anyone interested in the evolution of humanity, for it provides an alternative to the now-popular view that "modern" humans, whatever that may mean, originated late, in Africa and "replaced" everyone else.à
Book Description
Gravity is the dominant force in our universe. In Gravity's Fatal Attraction, two renowned astrophysicists explore gravity where it is infinitely strong: in black holes. These mind-boggling structures can have a mass up to billions of times that of our sun, but remain detectable only by the evidence of a powerful gravitational force swallowing everything in its vicinity.
Gravity's Fatal Attraction describes how these massive, invisible objects were found and what their existence implies for the evolution of our universe. Updated to include the latest discoveries, and featuring superb illustrations and photographs, this account of black holes and the associated phenomena of quasars and cosmic jets reveals the workings of our strange and amazing universe.
Winner of the 1996 American Institute of Physics Science Writing Award in Physics and Astronomy
Customer Reviews:
Outstanding.......2002-10-15
I have a technical degree, and I have also read very many popular science books. This is without a doubt one of best. It does not shy away from including most of more technical aspects of astrophysics and yet at the same time it explains them clearly and with beautiful illustrations. If your interested in the math this book is obviously not for you, but if want to understand the physics behind the math then grab this book as fast as you can.
What exactly is gravity.......2000-11-26
This reference provides the general reader with a good overview of gravity, stars, black holes, and galaxies.
A wonderful book about a rather opaque topic.......1999-07-14
I do not hesitate to give this one five stars. This book is worth every cent and more that I paid for it; I am reading it for the third time. I have never run across a book on this subject that covers as much ground as this one does with explanations that are as lucid. I have recommended it to many, and will continue to do so. The quality of writing is marvelous, and the organization of the topics is first-rate. Clearly, the authors spent a lot of time with this one, and they did it right! Good work, guys.

Book Description
A Supernatural Battle Is Now Raging for the Minds and Destinies of Our Children. This Is a Battle That Parents Can and Must Win.
Violence, psychic manipulation, witchcraft, murder, demons, wizards, magic, Satanism, and the occult are but a few of the featured attractions in the world of the ever-popular Pokemon phenomena and the celebrated Harry Potter series.
This eye-opening book is a stunning expose that penetrates the clever satanic camouflage which attempts to conceal the true diabolic nature of today's most popular children's literature and games.
Backed by the authority of the Word of God and his almost three decades in the ministry, Phil Arms provides an electrifying analysis of the most commerically successful children's entertainment of the last century.

Purely a third party observation, but, WHAT???!!!.......2007-01-07
Uhhhhh.....sure.....pick on Pokemon and Harry Potter when there are worse things out there - Grand Theft Auto, gangsta- and hustler-rap music videos, Girls Gone Wild, to say nothing about the images on the news these days. This guy has FAR too much free time on his hands if he's finding something like a connection to Satanism in the midst of two things which - compared to the rest of the things we are surrounded by in this post-9/11 era - are totally harmless. To find something like Satanism in Pokemon and Harry Potter is preposterous. I don't have this book, but if I did, I'd use it for house-breaking a puppy or lining a birdcage or something like that.
THIS IS THE FUNIEST WASTE OF TIME EVER.......2005-12-28
Wow! Poeple who use other poeple's successful writings to put money in their own wallets by writing a load of crap is actually pretty funny. Poeple who think they're good Christians should be out trying to do good for the world and not sit around trying to make a big deel out of a childerens book. Poeple who acuse harry potter of being evil must have missed all the christ like morals that it teaches or just be to dim to stand up straight.
Good Information, awful delivery.......2005-12-19
It does make Christians and are concern for many things in contempory society look stupid. The concerns he raises does need to be looked at by parents. For a few children these items may be a gateway to other problems. But a good watchful parent would see that. I certainly wish this book had not been published.
Better Safe than Sorry .......2005-11-28
Please, true, born-again Christians and also those who think they are Christians, do not underestimate your worst enemy, fallen angel Lucifer, also called Satan in the Bible. He is a real and dangerous entity in the spirit world. The Word of God refers to him as an 'angel of light' (2 Corinthians 11:14). He masquerades as good when his objective is to deceive and lead people away from the true and living God of the Bible and into bondage to himself and his evil including lying, perversion of sex, killing, and death, just to name a few of his sinful and destructive vices.
People, do you not see how he has manipulated the minds and deceived so many in the world leading them into evil darkness? Only a true, obedient believer in the Lord Jesus Christ has any true peace, joy, security, or contentment in this world. God's laws are meant to guide us in right thinking and living, so that we can have a taste of heaven right here on earth.
I appreciate Phil Arms concerns and defend this serious and helpful expose of how the enemy of our souls works his wiles in unsuspecting minds. The Holy Bible is very forthright in warning and forbidding people to have any part in occultic and witchcraft practices. We are gradually being 'dumbed-down' by people who do not take the Word of God seriously. Fears are good, because they can protect us from real dangers. I believe with all my heart that there is real danger ahead for those who open their minds and absorb these deceptive teachings and practices. It can and often does become a 'fatal attraction'. Give Satan an inch and he will take a mile. And he will not let go of you without the power that is in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ, God the Son, coming against him.
My prayer is that those who have negatively criticized this book will search the Bible and ask the Holy Spirit of God to show them the truth. I am really concerned that Satan is deceiving Christian adults as well as their children. It is truly sad and disturbing. I consider myself a mature but still growing-in-wisdom Christian, who has dealt with deception. Thankfully I searched the Scriptures for Truth, and God showed me not to believe all the spirits trying to influence my thinking. The Truths in the Scriptures are the infallible Word of God and if heeded will protect us from deception.
I laughed until I cried!!.......2005-11-08
The funniest book I ever read! The fact that there are at least hundreds of thousands of crackpots that think the same way is even funnier.
This book really shows Phil's intolerance of other cultures, as seen in the critique of Pokemon.
If he is truly concerned, he'd make a game and a series and/or books along with merchandise for children based on Christianity. (For those that have actually read the Bible, think about how truly creepy that would be.)
