Healing the whole man.......2007-10-06
This book was so awesome, such and easy read and what I really liked about it was the fact that there where specific prayers for specific illness..I have practiced these prayers at the altar and have seen healings take place...thank you so much for giving us the direction and showing us how to allow God to use us..it's not about us, it's all about Him..
Surprisingly believable.......2007-06-16
I met Joan at a writer's conference and got a copy of her book. I was intriqued by the cover. Joan was a little excited. Her book was selling really well, and was going into second printing. She should be excited. Finally I got around to reading a chapter or two. The truth is undeniable. The hope is reviving. The potential is unlimited. You might as well get yourself a copy. Healing the Whole Man may be the cheapest fix for what ails you - spiritually and physically - that you could ever buy.
Healing the Whole Man.......2007-05-09
This book is an awesome book to aid you in ministering to those who need a touch from God. I would encourage you to buy it and use it for gods kingdom.
How to Minister Healing and Wholeness.......2007-04-23
The Bible tells us as Believers that we are to lay hands on the sick and they shall recover. Joan Hunter not only spells out what God's Word has to say about healing, she clearly identifies many of the diseases which plague Christians and unbelievers alike. She provides specific, efffective prayers to enable God's healing power to minister to the individual. This is a very practical, easy book to understand and apply, one that is much needed today in the Body of Christ. I heartily recommend it.

Book Description
What effect does religion have on physical and mental health? In answering this question, this book reviews and discusses research on the relationship between religion and a variety of mental and physical health outcomes, including depression and anxiety; heart disease, stroke, and cancer; and health related behaviors such as smoking and substance abuse. The authors examine the positive and negative effects of religion on health throughout the life span, from childhood to old age. Based on their findings, they build theoretical models illustrating the behavioral, psychological, social, and physiological pathways through which religion may influence health. The authors also review research on the impact of religious affiliation, belief, and practice on the use of health services and compliance with medical treatment. In conclusion, they discuss the clinical relevance of their findings and make recommendations for future research priorities. Offering the first comprehensive examination of its topic, this volume is an indispensable resource for research scientists, health professionals, public policy makers, and anyone interested in the relationship between religion and health.

As a researcher myself in the field of spirituality and healthcare, I have found this book to be a "must have" resource for our own work. I would strongly recommend this book wihtout reservation!
An Amazing Book.......2001-02-28
As a scientist with great faith---and a survivor of three separate cancers---I came to this book with a lot of faith and treatment experience. This is an amazing summary of the literature relating religion and health. There are many, many associations between religious commitment and practice and health, with major implications for crafting healthful lifestyles and treatment of illness. This book is scientifically credible, inspirational from a religious perspective, and interesting throughout. 5 stars only because that is the top star value!!
Well worth the money.......2001-02-16
This book was well worth the money. There is so much information on religion and health, from a detailed history on religion and medicine to specific subjects like well-being, depression, heart disease, stroke, immune function, and lots on cancer. I think anybody with a health background or a religion background would find this book helpful.

Book Description
Professional herbalist, Shonda Parker, teaches mothers what can be safely treated at home, how to treat with nutritional and botanical medicine, and when to seek professional help. Traditional medicine has given us shots, pills, and expensive treatments. Shonda provides moms with homegrown remedies that are easily available, inexpensive, and that work wonders!
As a revival of interest in natural health care occurs, this book is designed to provide a continuing education class for mothers as family health practioners. Mothers observe, evaluate, and even medicate their children on a daily basis. By nature, mothers become family health practioners, but seek other opinions when appropriate. This book will equip any mother to address her family's day-to-day health needs with confidence and is critical for every mother who is focused on raising healthy kids.
Customer Reviews:
more than chicken soup.......2007-08-21
Even though my daughter has never been sick I have used the information in this book to help keep her well when all of the children around her did get sick. And it's not just for children I have used this book for my husband when he was ill. This book was recemmended to me by a mom of four and I have recommended it to many of my friends.
EXCELLENT!!!.......2007-07-28
I have referenced this book on several occasions while dealing with my children's illnesses. This book has kept me from making some serious mistakes with my children, and it has also kept me from putting my children on an endless round of antibiotics for minor things. I have used her wisdom to treat my children on various occasions, and would recommend this book as a household reference for anyone desiring the best for your family.
Basic Household Reference.......2006-08-28
The beginning of this book is my favorite part. Here Mrs. Parker lays out her very balanced philosophy of health care. She also explains, in much detail, and with actual forms, how to keep comprehensive health records for each member of your family. The bulk of the book consists of an ailment-by-ailment listing with lifestyle and supplement recommendations for each ailment. As Mrs. Parker's emphasis is herbal, I personally find the supplement recommendations to be so complex and varied as to be difficult for me to keep up with: I could not possibly stock all of these things in my medicine chest. However, I'm sure it would be of great use if my family came down with anything more serious than a cold (at which point it would be worth tracking down the supplements). All in all, I find this to be handy as a reference, especially in the area of keeping health records, but I would appreciate something simpler as the core of my home health library.
Excellent resource for novice prescribers with children.......2002-01-03
As a mommy of two very young children (3 and 1) and aspiring to be the mommy of more to come I find this to be a wonderful resource for diagnosing and treating all common ailments for children as well as adults. Very easy to read and understand, organized in a user-friendly manner. Very concise index which helps you to quickly find the ailment or herb you are looking for. I would highly recommend this book to anyone with small children who prefers homeopathic medicine to conventional medicine.
Excellent Theology and Balance.......2001-05-31
Shonda Parker's book is the first I've read on this topic with a combination of excellent theology and a balanced view regarding herbs/nutrition. It is thoroughly Christian and reminds Mommies to trust in God's sovereignty while equipping them to make educated choices for excellent care of their little blessings.

Walking in Divien Health.......2004-04-01
This is a wonderful book for someone who doesn't like to read a lot. It is easy reading and very interesting. I don't get to read that much, but I nor my husband could put it down once we started it. My parents have it now and they are looking into buying other books by Don Colbert M.D.
Best book on health.......2002-08-23
This is the best advice I ever received on health and I recommend it to everyone.
Great! Information on healing the body, mind, and spirit!.......2000-10-09
"Walking in Divine Health" By Dr. Donald Colbert
Dr. Donald Colbert is the most educated and experienced doctor Ihave ever know in the areas of spiritual, emotional, and physicalhealth. He saved my daughter and my life more than once, and we bothlove him. The book mentioned above is only one of the many he hasauthored. They are written not only from a highly researchedstandpoint, but from a spiritual and emotional standpoint also; for weall know that our spirituality and emotions greatly affect ourhealth. Read and use this book. It could not only save your life, butit could change your life. Dr. Colbert can also be seen on histelevision show, "Your Health Matters" on the Golden EagleNetwork (web or satellite). My daughter Angie and I are traveling alot now, and we no longer see the doctor - but "We miss you,Dr. Colbert!" Sincerely, Pamela Lee Gibb...
Walking in Divine Health.......2000-03-22
My opinion on this book was great! It is full of valuable information, ideas, things you should know and do and what to avoid. The author came from a spiritual aspect and shared how to avoid cancer and heart disease, how to combat it if you have it, and how we get it, as well as staying fit and eating to good health. I have recommended it to many people who have picked it up and are reading it.

Customer Reviews:
The JGirl's Guide.......2007-01-04
The subtitle tells it all. This volume addresses teenage girls directly on topics such as Jewish identity, friendship, honoring parents, body image issues, sexuality, health, gossip, social responsibility and more. Three authors make for a somewhat disjointed reading experience. A very long introduction greets readers and tells them (repeatedly) what to expect. The format of each chapter, with its many sections, quotes, questions and exercises, wrings every last drop out of every topic. The style of the book is a breathlessly excited, energetic charge up a mountain of information. The Jewish aspect of each topic under discussion is explained through historical and modern viewpoints, with plenty of back up from original texts. A consciously neutral point of view embraces all streams of Judaism and levels of observance. This book would be an excellent resource for youth group leaders to use in leading discussions or workshops on teen issues. It may also serve as a guide for parents struggling to talk with their kids about sensitive topics. Self-aware young women may enjoy the navel-gazing quality of the book, while others will find it tiresome. Some kids may be turned off by the attempt of the adult authors to sound "cool" by inventing the term "JGirl." Recommended for ages 12 - 18 where Jewish teens are heavily served.

And now, a gentile's perspective..........2005-06-03
I recently purchased this book as a bat mitzvah gift for a young friend, and couldn't help reading through several chapters myself. I was very impressed with the breadth of topical advice, which is presented in a very lively and engaging manner. The authors did such a skillfull job demonstrating the relevancy and beauty of Jewish traditions and history that, raised as a Christian, I found myself becoming a tad envious of the heritage! I definitely recommend this book as a worthwhile read.
Awesome is an understatement ! ! !.......2005-05-04
Thanks to the JGirl's guide, I finally understand my daughter and wife and all that touchy-feely shechina stuff........you can't go wrong with this book, and I mean this whether or not you are starting from scratch or studying talmud with the Baal Shem Tov !
Well written, Enjoyable and Easy reading.......2005-04-29
My daughter asked me to get this for her after she heard so much about it in school from her friends. I ended up reading it myself right after she finished it. We both enjoyed it immensely and I would definitely recommend it to anyone. It was insightful and has even helped me better relate to my daughter during this changing time in her life.
Enjoy!
Every Jewish Girl should have this book! .......2005-04-25
The JGirl's Guide is an invaluable book for young girls. If you would like your friend, daughter, student, cousin.... to get much more out of their bat-mitzvah, and so much more out of being a Jewish teenager - struggling with identity, as well as common teen issues such as food and peer pressure. What a wonderful idea to finally come out with something fun and interesting in an era where we sometimes need to be reminded that even though life can be a party, we must not forget how meaningful it is- and when we are reminded and taught, then it because that much more fun!

To simplify the process of finding information about a certain drug, generic drugs are presented in a logical A-to-Z organization, with a comprehensive index that includes cross-references to related brand-name drugs. All information has been vetted by a board of content specialists, including an expert from the University of Southern California's School of Gerontology, considered the finest in the United States.
Each entry also features a detailed, color-correct image of the pill or capsule for identification purposes, along with details on its generic name, brand name, and manufacturer; a listing of what a health-care provider should know about the condition of anyone taking the medication; advice on what to do if you miss a dose; warnings on interactions with other drugs; and notes on potential side effects to look out for.
In their foreword and introduction, Harvard-trained doctors Jerry Avorn and Bill Thomas provide clear and comprehensive guidance on the wise use of prescription medications; how to effectively manage your drug costs; how to prepare for and derive maximum benefit from each doctor's visit; how to talk to your physician and pharmacist; how to avoid "polypharmacy," or overmedication; and why the appearance of generic pills can change from one prescription refill to the next.
This is a must-have book for anyone 50+ and younger.
Why THIS pill book?
*Each entry includes a color-correct image of the medication-unlike most books that include the images in a separate section
*Over 1,200 color images of pills-more than any other book on the market-make identifying medications easy and minimize the risk of error...whether brand name or generic
*A bulleted list tells you what your health-care professional needs to know before you start taking a specific drug
*Important details about how and when to take a drug for maximum effectiveness
*A separate section explains exactly what to do if you miss a dose
*Content updated at press time to guarantee the most current information available
*Concise and consistent format helps readers find what they need easily
*Explains how the older body metabolizes drugs differently

Gosh, I'm Disappointed!.......2007-07-03
For what it has, it has lots of easy-to-read information that is indeed useful. However, it only has information on about 1200 medications. Now, that sounds like a lot, but I guess it really isn't. The book doesn't cover a widely-used medication I take: Advair, probably the most prescribed Asthma medication in the USA for several years, is not here. Nor are its component parts. True, Advair is an inhaler and not a pill, but they do cover sinus sprays. Beats me! As for the elderly, the print is too small for most older folks, I believe. I have been using the Winter Griffith books and I guess I'll be going back to them next time. They are written in outline/list form and not complete sentences, but they seem to cover more. And that, essentially, is your decision: Do you want complete sentences, pretty layout but small print and not full coverage; or lists, ugly layout, big print, and more complete coverage? Your call.
Libraries catering to the over-50 patron will want it, as will health libraries........2007-02-04
Over a thousand prescription and nonprescription medications are included in The AARP Guide to Pills, which has been fully updated with the latest new information covering side effects, drug interactions, and generics. It appears in full color to offer photos of pills along with basics on what a health care professional should know and advice a patient before prescribing. It's the over-50 adult dependent on many of these listed drugs who will gain the most here, finding this a far easier, quicker reference than other books on the market. Libraries catering to the over-50 patron will want it, as will health libraries.

"IMPRESSIVE" to say the least !.......2006-08-24
"IMPRESSIVE" is an strong understatement. I was able to find information in a comprehensive format that I could only find in bit & peices from other multiple sources - not even from Drug Digest OnLine. And BTW - the best price is from Amazon - BUY IT !

In ancient China, barefoot doctors traveled from village to village without concern for financial or personal gain. Their aim was helping people stay healthy and in good spirits, explains author Stephen Russell, who for the past 20 years has considered himself to be the modern-day "barefoot doctor." Applying the principles of ancient Chinese Taoism, Russell dishes out irreverent advice for how to find peace and prolong life while keeping one's Donna Karan designer clothing and urban lifestyle.
The first step, claims the barefoot doctor, is to recognize that we're all urban warriors, engaged in a spiritual struggle between the forces of light and darkness within us and around us. Rather than get into "inner street brawls" with these opposing forces, Russell suggests that readers learn to live in balance by following one's Tao or "The Way." Russell humorously yet wisely illustrates how readers can follow the Tao, including short chapters on "Manners," "Condoms," "Cults, Gurus," "People Surfing," and "Intuition." This is a somewhat glib but surprisingly sensible spiritual guidebook for those who like their teachers to be streetwise as well as enlightened. --Gail Hudson

Excellent and Funny!.......2005-10-03
I bought this book several years ago and I thought it was one of the best books I have ever read on a "spiritual" subject. The Barefoot Doctor is extremely funny and brings the complex and mysterious subject of Taoism down to a level that anyone can understand. There are also wonderful and simple exercises included in the book. I gave my copy away to someone I felt needed it. But, just recently I purchased this book again, because it is that good. I have also ordered 4 of his other books from Amazon.UK, as they are hard to obtain here in the U.S.

Taoism that fits!.......2002-11-15
I found this book to be engaging, humorous and informative. I just picked it up one wet afternoon and couldn't put it down. This is the first book that I read by the Barefoot Doctor and it related Taoism to my world in a way that other texts couldn't, while making me look at life in a new and positive way. You can read it straight through from cover to cover or dip in at random according to your mood. I have read it many times and just keep getting more from it. Once you've read this one, you'll want to read more - good thing he's just written his 5th book - Liberation.
Millennary wisdom made easy and useful.......2002-02-03
This book is a very clear way to relate to a Taoist way of living. I found it very helpful in most difficult moments. I'm thankful with the author for writing it. It's a lot of fun too, even while speaking about the deepest matters.
The Ancient Tao Explained in A Most Modern Way.......2000-11-17
If you're curious about Taoism that's good. A dedicated scholar is even better. But if you can't manage to do that in your hectic daily life, behold this book! It explains the Tao in an easy going style with plenty of humor and lots of good old common sense. Even concepts that seem otherworldly will start to make sense when you read it a second time. It is thorough, yet manages to avoid intimidating the reader with archaic language. There are many books on the tao, from the spiritual to the scholarly. This one manages to bring it straight to the people with no frills. And while some reviewers think it advocates drug culture, I believe the author is patently aware that you cannot preach to most people or convince them to stop self destructive behavior even if they know you're right....so it is best to arm them with practical knowledge and let THEM do the changing. And that is the essence of the Tao. Ever changing--ever learning. Some will read this book and hungrily move on to more serious books on the Tao, while others will want to keep it in their backpack and think on it for a long time. I am doing both.
The Tao for those who don't want to ditch the laptop.......2000-10-31
I like my life and my stuff! I don't want to cloister myself on some mountain top and eschew the modern world. This is a great book for all the citizens of the real world who want to explore the Tao, but don't want to become great scholars. Taoism is about being and experiencing, not about pouring through ancient tomes for answers other people have found. If you'd rather get a few pointers on how to be a little more Tao, get this lovely little book. It is truly a diggable and easily portable guide to life on the cooler side of the fence.
