A Thriller Cozy?.......2007-09-20
My first "Mrs. Pollifax" novel. With little buildup, the reader is in Syria with Mrs. Pollifax, a CIA biddy, and her sidekick. Their mission is to find and rescue an American girl who has saved a planeload of passengers and then disappeared. They have various adventures until they land in an archeological dig. This was an odd book, and it finally dawned on me that there's minimum violence, in spite of one murder, off screen, and that it's actually a cozy. If Mrs. Pollifax did a bit of knitting and had a cat, the genre would be complete. Instead we have sheep and an unlikely rescue. In spite of the oddball, bloodless scenarios and capers, I rather enjoyed the escapade, and came to like Mrs. Pollifax who seems to be a rather clever old bat.
Mrs Pollifax unveiled.......2007-02-22
Mrs Pollifax is someone I discovered by accident a couple of years ago and since then I have been trying to collect the series in which she figures. Delightful is what comes into my mind to describe the books. A new location each time, a new adventure, and absolutely plausible where simple common sense rules the day. In this one, she is off to Africa with barely a clue in her hand - just a mission to locate a girl who did a heroic deed in disarming hijackers and then completely disappears. Mrs P finds her - going from clue to clue, and in the process averts an assassination. The stories never stale, and can be re-read and the enchantment still holds.
In Strange Places Where There Is Danger........2006-06-26
Emily Pollifax has gone through a lot of dangerous adventures since Dorothy Gilman created her best known character in the '70s. She was known as a super sleuth as a CIA (?) secret agent on assignments in unusual places. Some of the fifteen or so titles called her amazing, elusive, pursued, unexpect, and innocent. She survived many death-defying situations like being locked overnight in a medieval Swiss Castle.
For a Garden Club member from New Brunswick, New Jersey, she found herself in many tight spots, like her espionage assignament in Morrocco, Turkey, in the 'Whirling Dervish.' This one is similar as she balks an airplane terrorist. You can always find her in foreign locales while her husband carries on at home. I can't choose which is my favorite, but Mrs. Gilman has been a most prolific writer and creator of Mrs. Pollifax.
Don't miss out on Dorothy Gilman.......2005-10-26
Fun fun fun. I highly recommend all of Dorothy Gilman's Mrs. Pollifax books just for the pure escapist, fun of reading about an "older" woman who knows how to take care of herself!
Patty Hearst syndrome.......2003-07-02
There is a question whether an American woman is alive or dead in Syria. The CIA summons Emily Pollifax and another free-lance hand, John Sebastian Farrell. They travel to Syria. It seems that rumors in the bazaar indicate that Amanda Pym, the person concerned, is still alive after having been kidnapped six weeks earlier. She had foiled some hijackers and entered a wrong car directly after the event when being interviewed by news organizations.
When Mrs. Pollifax and Farrell arrives in Damascus and checks into the hotel, Mrs. Pollifax finds a note. She had been advised by her superior, Carstairs, that help could be expected. The note directs themn to go to the Citadel. Things really heat up as Farrell gets taken into police custory and Mrs. Pollifax, having been struck in the head with something, makes her way to an archaeological dig, a caravansary, to find the next clue. Traveling the following day in a borrowed land rover in search of the shepherd who may have seen Amanda Pym, Mrs. Pollifax and her guide, Joe Fleming, enter an area of the desert where snipers are boing trained. They find a burned American passport that may have belonged to Amada Pym.
Farrell arrives at the camp reporting that he had been held by a nefarious group, not the police at all, who seemed to know everything about Amanda Pym. Determining to view the encampment at night, to try to see what the shepherd saw, they look through the binoculars and see Amanda Pym among the people in camouflage garb who were supposed to be snipers in training. Farrell comes to know more about Amanda Pym by piecing together pieces of her journal found in the vicinity of the burned passport. The means Mrs. Pollifax, Farrell, and Joe Fleming employ to separate Amanda Pym from the others I care not to disclose. I will say that the solution involves the aid of sheep and golden hamsters. The working out of the details both in Syria and elsewhere proves to be extremely exciting and delightful from the point of view of the reader.

One of the best.......2007-03-09
I found this book VERY intriguing to say the least. It has much in common with "the Conversations With God" books. "Although I keep an opened mind about content I absorb, my mind is always cautious as well; so as to not allow thought control to enter into my will. I agree with most of the ideas and lessons within. The only confusion in which I encountered was the notable difference in tone from this book and the belief of the Temple in Arizona which practices the "I AM presence". In this book, it appears as though a student of an ascended master realizes that there is a greater God above who IS the creator. Realizing that God above wants your will to be one with his will, you will come to realize that once he is in your "heart", you may command things in the name of his will by speaking into the universe as though you are God (since you realize he is allowing you to use his will). As long as you understand that you are NOT the main creator yourself, but are merely granted access to his will and understand that al his power is accessible to your own will through his, ALL THINGS WILL BE POSSIBLE to YOU. This is how I believe myself. However...upon reading the content of the website, the tone seemed to waver from that of this book. This site makes it appear that YOU are the main God. Plus, they are really pushing "Mother Mary" and her roseries. Now, being I am of a Christian foundation, I found the homogenization of Catholocism and universal priciple a bit odd. It made me wonder if the Ballards were of a more ritualized background in Catholocism. In all my years of reading and studying on religious studies, never have I seen a main or religious based-organized integrated into universal practice of belief. It only makes me want to say they are a bit biased in their filtration of what is deemed "pure faith" or "perfection". Also, within the book (as well as the site), when reffering to knowing you yourself as GOD, you will notice that they always capitalize the G in God. That is the only hint that they truly must believe they themselves are God without allowance from a higher being. In the bible, when Jesus states, "Are ye not all gods?" he left it lowercase to show our submission to a higher God still. It is by allowance that we hold the almighty's power and not us who created this vast universe. That is the only problem I have with such a belief. I understand that visions from "ascended Masters" are not fake, but you must realize that demons and various other spirits are shape shifters who can take on ANY form while appearing to you. They are very cunning as well as smooth talkers who can gain the trust of ANY man if their guard is not up to par. Unless each visitation were proven to be tested under the mighty names of God, ther is no way for anyone to tell if all visitations were based on "Divine Intervention" or "Infernal /Intervention, Manipulation"; leading to an "Illuminated consciouce self". I have taken to heart what does not clash with my spirit, but I still test the waters with my linkage to God before fully endrenching my soul into uncharted territory!
The believers like the book. Coincidence? .......2006-04-26
Here this forum serves as an opportunity for people to comment mostly on whether this book presents the "truth."
These people (who give the book five stars) are obviously all part of the religion they are discussing. I was once part of it myself. I've since left it, gone on to major in English in college and get an MA in English (not that this will mean anything to the people who are part of this religion--if anything, it will probably make them see me as unreliable).
In any case, looking back over these books, I can't see how I ever believed the "truth" of something that now seems to me to have been written by an adult 10-year old. "Call on Your Precious Mighty I AM Presence in the Ascended Masters' Octave, hold Your Attention on that Beloved Mighty Presence, and You Shall Have All that You Desire, and All that You Require." (That's not an actual quote, but it's a pretty accurate representation.)
Apparently the "Master" who dictated these books believes that capitalized words and dull, repetitive adjectives make for fine reading. There are about 17 books in the St. Germain series, and nearly all of them say the same thing.
The advice these books contain may often be "true"--but only in the most common sense kind of way (thinking about bad things all the time is not good for you, etc.).
Personally, although I don't believe in God at all, I think it should be obvious to anyone with a moderately cultivated reading background that the Bible is light-years ahead of anything these St. Germain books can offer in terms of style, narrative quality, and compelling characters.
Fantastic... a Revelation from God.......2005-03-12
This book is an account of actual experiences with the Ascended Master Saint Germain, otherwise known for his many lives as Sir Francis Bacon and the Comte de Saint Germain, mystery man of Europe. In this simple and elegantly-titled book 'Unveiled Mysteries' Saint Germain takes America's own 'Son of the Republic' Guy Ballard, who goes by the pen name Godfre Ray King, or as he's known throughout the Universe 'Beloved Godfre', on great spiritual adventures. The descriptive nature Mr. Ballard uses to depict things well beyond this world is enough to sharpen the scope and expand the insight of any well-intended reader quite on the prelude of his/her own Ascension, as Beloved Godfre was when this book was released into the physical.
A sincere account of a spiritual adventure.......2005-02-21
Science free from religious dogma.
This is one of the most attention-grabbing books on spiritual teachings or metaphysics I have read so far.
The book gets underway by Guy Ballards remarkable (pen name Godfre Ray King) narration of his shocked and unexpected encounter with St. Germain while hiking on Mount Shasta.
From our point of view the spiritual power and dominion expressed by St. Germain is mind-boggling like materializing objects, gold coins, nutritious energetic liquids and projecting both physically and astraly at will.
What this Master teaches is a Science totally free from religious contamination of any sort. St Germain expresses the authority of an understanding that can be practically demonstrated.
I recommend this original book to anyone interested in his/her emotional freedom.
veiled lies and self-promotion.......2005-01-11
All of the I AM books are pure (mostly stolen) fiction. The "Neverland" philosophy ("if I just believe, I can fly...") was simply a way for Guy and Edna to make some money and get some adoration. Please do your homework before taking any of the content of this and the other books to heart. These people were racist frauds.
I recommend exploring the sources from which the material was purloined (Baird T. Spaulding, C.W. Leadbetter, Mary Baker Eddy etc.) to see how unoriginal the stories, "masters" and philosophy really are. I also recommend exploring the complete lack of success of "Decrees" in real life. Just like Guy and Edna, ALL I Am'ers grow old and die. (Interestingly enough, Guy used to say that he would not die, but would "ascend" - boy did they have to re-write history when he croaked just like a regular old lowly human - despite being the chosen of Saint Germaine...) Ascenscion is a fantasy that rejects the value of human life and embraces death.
Please, do not get caught up in this deception that should have "ascended" along with Guy Ballard many years ago.
Read "Psychic Dictatorship in America" by Gerald Bryan - written in 1940 when the Ballards were still alive and raking in the believers and their cash.

Book Description
Brief Old Testament references to a former civilisation that was destroyed by the Flood have fascinated scholars for centuries, giving rise to exotic speculations ranging from the advanced technology of Atlantis through to extraterrestrial visitors. But it is only now that one British researcher's ten-year quest has brought together the entire body of accounts of an antediluvian race from across the globe - from the ancient texts of Mesopotamia, Egypt, India, China, Greece and Scandinavia, to the sacred traditions of indigenous peoples from the Americas, Africa, Indonesia and Australasia - with stunning results. GENESIS UNVEILED: The Lost Wisdom of our Forgotten Ancestors is the result of that painstaking quest, and its conclusions are unlike anything you have read before. Like other notable revisionist historians, Ian Lawton argues that our forebears were far more culturally advanced than has been previously believed - to the extent that they built sizeable settlements and navigated the oceans to trade. He backs up this belief with tantalising evidence from archaeology. Yet the most significant common theme uniting the ancient traditions is that our 'forgotten race' was originally highly spiritual but became increasingly obsessed with the material world before it perished in a global catastrophe - which geological and other evidence suggests occurred around 11,500 years ago. Throughout Genesis Unveiled the author's reinterpretations of ancient sacred texts are underpinned by a spiritual ethos based on the principles of karma and reincarnation. So the catastrophe is seen as a karmic event brought about by our forgotten race's fall from grace. As to how a spiritual worldview was first brought into human consciousness, he argues that underlying the various accounts of the creation of man and of mankind's 'civilisation' by various 'sages' is the genuine reality that the genus Homo had at some point evolved sufficiently in physical, psychological and physiological terms that it was ready to play host to the first advanced souls to incarnate in human form. He argues that this would have represented the most significant cultural impetus ever to the evolution of humanity, and that it can be practically tied into the first signs of ritual burial in the archaeological record, which date back 100,000 years to a site in Israel. This surely represents the point at which our ancestors first appreciated that the soul lives on after death, and that there are ethereal realms in addition to the physical world around us - a view that would lead tens of thousands of years later to the wonderful shamanic cave paintings of Western Europe. Yet perhaps the most stunning scholastic discovery in Genesis Unveiled is Lawton's revelation of the incredible consistency and esoteric wisdom of all origin myths right across the world, which has been completely overlooked by orthodox scholars who insist on purely psychological interpretations. Moreover, the timeless and universal truths contained in them have been dramatically reconfirmed by modern theoretical science in recent decades, with the revelations that everything is energy, that matter is an illusion, that everything is interconnected, that everything has consciousness, and that there are multiple other dimensions beyond the apparently physical. As a result, the author is able to lay out a philosophical and historical framework that merges a scientific, evolutionary perspective with a spiritual worldview - with no inherent conflicts or contradictions. Above all, Genesis Unveiled emphasises that the theme of a debased and materialistic culture that perished when it lost touch with its spiritual roots is one that we should heed carefully - for if we can come to recognise the path we are now treading as one our ancestors have been down before, we may be able to fundamentally alter our priorities and reconnect ourselves with our spiritual roots before universal karma once again decides enough is enough... Genesis Unveiled represents:1. The first serious attempt to bring all the precatastrophe texts and traditions from around the world together for comparison.2. The first time the catastrophe of 11,500 years ago has been viewed in its proper context as a karmic event based on our antediluvian ancestors fall from spiritual grace.3. The first time the incredible consistency and esoteric wisdom of the origin traditions from all around the world has been revealed.4. The first philosophically logical merger of a spiritual and scientific worldview.5. The first attempt at a spiritual prehistory of mankind with relevance to the modern world.

Denial Unveiled.......2007-06-17
I have to say this writer is denial of obvious facts. For instance, even though the pyramids of Giza match perfectly with the belt of Orion (as seen through a high powered telescope, Lawton calls Bauval's work "dubious interpretation."
Although a 5000 year old glider sits on display in the Cairo museum and has been shown to be aerodynamic and proven to fly whith a back wing added to its vertical stabilizer, Lawton still argues that "it is more likely to represent a stylised bird." Yoiks!
His denial even prevents him from seeing the helicopter in the Abbydos temple heiroglyph which clearly shows a helicopter, tank and plane!
Lawton passes off all physical evidence and plausible theories presented by Hancock, Sitchin, Bauval and others as presenting "confusing argument" or "scant regard for logical flow" without any evidence or facts to prove otherwise. His disregard is likened to Republican denial of global warming, the benefits of alternative energies, and the blatant denial of the laws of physics in covering up the controlled demolition of the World Trade Centers.
Don't waste your time on this book!
Relax people the book is not that bad........2006-07-27
Awesome read.
This is a very well-researched piece of literature!---period...
I think people need to be informed to as much information from all different angles, on every subject regarding life, the universe and god, and anything else for what its worth. That way they can forge their own opinions on these touchy subjects, based upon the homework they have done. Even if the information they are recieving is a dubbed "conspiracy theory" by others or a cold stone fact for that matter.
I liked this book and I recommend it to anybody interested in ancient history.
Valuable Information for the truth seeker.......2005-08-11
This book is a wealth of information. Containing similar findings as many of the great scholars of our time. There is much agreement with Sitchen, Tsarian, Henry, Maxwell and others. One stong aspect of this book is the author's ability to dig into really good research and pull up facts that are becoming more acceptable in the world of truth today. I like the fact that it he makes a summary with key points at the end of each main section.
A great book!!!!
Excellent stuff.......2005-03-02
Having read the rude and unfounded reviews of this book i feel compelled to respond to the ingrates below. (Not you nice man!)
Lies? What lies? Do you know your stuff at all? This is astounding research of source material by a thorough and scholarly writer!
And as for you mister 'i wasted my money', yes you did. I think copies of 'politeness for beginners' are available for $1.
Perhaps you all were reading a completely different book? Yes, it is apparent that the author believes in reincarnation, but given all the evidence, so did our ancestors? He's just asking why. It's not one-sided, it's not preachy, it's just good.
Maybe it struck a cord and you don't like that. Maybe it challenged you to think about important issues. Maybe you're too focused on believing the trite nonsense in most other books of this ilk (see oxford dictionary). Not enough aliens? Still realing from a probing that you need accounting for?
I'm sorry to be so harsh, but really, this book is obviously ground breaking and well-researched. So regardless of your personal thoughts on it's content, give it credit for the thoroughness of the evaluation.
Really bad if you do not believe in reincarnation.......2005-01-28
This book sounds exciting but when you got to the first chapter, you would realise that it is really a bad book if you do not believe in reincarnation.
Other than that, it is not well written and the author tends to digress. Many of the examples cited did not help him to support his case.
This is one the few books I really regret buying!
Book Description
Persephone Unveiled reveals the goddess in all her guises, as the daughter of Demeter; the Queen of the Underworld; the archetypal female healer; and as a central figure in the Eleusinian Mysteries, where celebrants experienced sacred visions through secret rituals fueled by an LSD-like substance. The author examines the known details about the psychoactive agent and explores the Mysteries' influence on, and relationship to, early Christianity. Guided meditations, using active imagination techniques, help readers summon an experience with the goddess.

Book Description
Everyone wants to be happy, healthy, and successful-yet too many people are unable to achieve these components which lead to a gratifying and fulfilling life. When we are physically diseased, we visit a doctor; when spiritually sick, we seek solace in the church; and when mentally ill, we see a psychiatrist. But it is seldom that we seek to cure the whole person, and in turn, it is seldom that we find a permanent solution for alleviating our ailments. The Western concept of health and well-being-do not treat the whole person-we must be challenged. We must seek answers regarding the nature of humanity and our relationship to the universe and God. Our own search for and discovery of the truth will enable us to discard an imperfect notion of well-being. Only then will we achieve our greatest potential. Trevlin W. Blackman's new book, "In Pursuit of Truth: Mysteries of Life Unveiled," offers many answers to the multitude of questions posed by humanity's existence. It provides a solid introduction to the basic philosophy of microcosmic science, the science of harmonically unifying the elements of the body with the elements of the universe. The book includes basic dietary concepts, color visualization techniques, and self-affirming statements designed to improve readers' sense of well-being. "In Pursuit of Truth: Mysteries of Life Unveiled" will encourage and inspire readers to seek the truths which have escaped us all.
