Ugh... her tone of voice.......2007-08-18
I gave the CD several tries just in case it was my mood or mental state but nope, this woman's tone of voice is condescending. There were times that I actually opened my eyes and looked down at which ever body part she was referring to because her tone of voice made me think I was doing it wrong. In order for a guided meditation to be effective for me, the speaker must have a calm, soothing voice and an even tone. This woman would say something like "just let it go" and the vision I would get would be her standing over me trying to pry and yank "it" out of my hands. I want to visualize "it" floating quietly away. Because I didn't care for the CD I merely flipped thru the book. It all comes in a nice box with pockets for the CD and some little study cards.
This got me started.......2007-07-13
The book and cd's were great. I used this to kick-off my learning about insight meditation. The book is a great introduction, and the cd's helped me to get the feel for meditation. I sometimes hung up a card to remind me to be mindful of particular things during the day. Every now and then I will use a meditation on the cds when I want help focusing on something specific in my meditation. I highly recommend this to someone who is wanting to start meditating.
it helps to stay focused.......2007-05-22
i have a real problem with paying attention. constant thoughts cloud my brain, either day dreams or things i need to get done or do. but through meditation i'm able to focus and payation to whats going on around me with out the constant thoughts.
the cd helps too. it lets you know when you time is up, and helps keep you focused while your doing it. i'd recremed this for any one who has add
it also helps me feel more relaxed. when i get done meditating i feel completly stress free and i'm in iraq so that tells you something
Outstanding Beginner Guide.......2007-04-10
This beginner's guide is the most enjoyable I have read. The guided meditations are a big hit with my meditation group and the authors have a clear method of explaining a difficult subject in western terms. The material is nicely packaged, with great thought into the type of binding, CD storage and card storage. Thank you to the authors.
A very good introduction.......2007-04-10
I have not finished this "course" yet, but so far I like it quite a bit.
Already having learned to meditate on the breath some of this was "old hat" for me, but even so, there is info here I did not have and it is well written and worthwhile as a review and as another perspective.
The cards that come with it, to me, were a waste of paper. They could have just put the info at the back of the book. It seems like some kind of "marketing ploy" to create a "package".
However, the cd's are good, and do help one to practice meditation. Even for me it gave me some new techniques and new ideas about meditation.
Overall, this is an excellent intro to "insight meditation" and I recommend it!

As each lesson unfolds, students learn to see past the illusion of life's obstacles and move toward an awakened mind-state - the true freedom we seek to achieve.

Buddhism 101.......2007-05-05
I've been searching for materials on the fundamentals of Buddhism, and discovered that most resources are too esoteric for a neophyte Westerner such as myself. This "kit" is simple, yet comprehensive. Structured in a very easy to understand manner, it is unpretentious and free of cheesy gimmicks like similar items I have seen in stores. I like that it combines text, CDs and cards for a more complete multi-media experience. The CDs don't have any distracting new-age music, and the speakers' voices are calm and down to earth. They also do not talk excessively, but give just enough guidance along the way. The book provides a thorough overview without being too complicated, and the quotes sprinkled throughout offer ways to reflect on concepts in bite size bits of wisdom. This is a perfect primer for anyone beginning a journey into learning about Buddhism.
Insight Meditation - a beginner's view.......2007-01-05
Each of the 12 lessons includes two dics of 40-50 minutes. The introduction discs seem thorough and set for the lesson objectives very well. The disc containing the guided meditation is easy to follow and is consistent with the introduction. I have allowed three weeks time for each lesson which will allow for course completion and some lesson reviews within the one year course period. I have enrolled with the Dharma Foundation and have been assigned an advisor. The advisor has been extremely helpful. One disc was defective and I called Sound True who immediately made arrangements to replace it. In summary, the course is exceeding my expectations.
It will change your life..........2003-12-24
I purchased this meditation kit over a year ago. Previous to this course I could not get a good sense of direction in terms of meditation. I read some books, and got bits and peces here and there.
This course is complete. It has everything you need to meditate... except something to sit on. The tapes are great. They start of really basic and gradually build on one another. One side of a tape is a teaching and the second is a guided meditation. It really makes you feel like you are there sitting with the instructor. I did an average of one course a month. With this I completed all the exercises in the book and wrote to my correspondence instructor every month. Most of the correspondence is pre-written but some is actual text from a live instructor. I had some problems/concerns and I wrote to the instructor. He answered all my question and was very attentive.
This is NOT something you can do in one weekend. This is a lengthy but very rewarding experience. You need to spend an average of 45 minutes a day on this. To complete this course I meditated 3-5 times a week, 45 minutes at a time for over a year.
The course really changed my life. I continue to meditate today. The way you look at the world will never be the same. I am more relaxed, I can control my emotions a lot easier, I fall asleep within 2 minutes or less etc. etc.
I highly recommend this course to anyone looking for a little peace in this crazy world.
Superb.......2003-11-21
Although I was hesitant to spend this much money for a "correspondence course" in insight meditation. I decided to risk it and found that it exceeded my expectations. I had tried unsuccessfully to develop a regular sitting practice for several years. Joseph's and Sharon's precise, lucid pedagogical style, the practical "hands on" exercises at the end of each chapter, and access via email to a skilled Vipassana teacher enabled me to finally achieve that goal. Although I completed the course almost a year ago, I continue to work with my teacher online. The course also inspired me to attend a 10 day retreat at IMS which had a profound effect on my practice and my life. Bravo!!!
Best Money Ever Spent.......2001-05-01
I've never, ever gotten more out of a purchase in my life. This is a wonderful treat: 12 casettes with wonderful easy to follow talks on meditation, 12 guided mediation tapes, an easy to read guide, and a meditation teacher who writes to you after every lesson. I've gotten a tremendous amount of peace of mind and even insight out of this experience, and I recommend it highly to all of my friends -- well, except the very most skeptical types (though no doubt they need it most!).

Book Description
Here is a modern classic of unusually clear, practical instruction for the practice of Buddhist meditation: sitting and walking meditation, how one relates with the breath, feelings, thought, sense perceptions, consciousness, and everyday activities. Basic Buddhist topics such as the nature of karma, the four noble truths, the factors of enlightenment, dependent origination, and devotion are discussed.
Customer Reviews:
Insightful meditation book for several levels of practice.......2004-11-20
The author covers many basic points and instructions on insight (Vipashyana) meditation. This type is employed in many different sects/schools of Buddhism. His instruction is practical, and the book includes questions/answers that can be helpful to the practitioner. It's nicely done too. He also provided a very fine and useful quote for my collection: "People are attached to their own way of looking at things. As soon as you say something that in any way threatens it, they become defensive. So the way is not to threaten, just to be the way you are, letting the Dharma unfold. A peaceful mind has its effect on its surroundings. It takes time and it takes patience, and a lot of love." Thus, the author blends warmth and practicality. Not an easy task.
Disappointed.......2004-10-06
After reading all the glowing reviews of this book I couldn't wait to read it. As usual, when your expectations are high, you're usually disappointed. Since this book is based on a thirty-day retreat. I thought it would be more of an intermediate level book than the beginner's book that it is. It didn't go into the specific problems meditators have on a lengthy retreat, rather, it skips around covering different points of Buddhist philosophy in an unorganized way, and which have been covered better in other books. I'm not saying that this book doesn't have something to offer--there are certainly passages that I will go back to again and again. It's just that overall, those passages are few and far between.
A far superior guide to beginning Insight Meditation is "Mindfulness in Plain English" by Bhante Henepola Gunaratana. A better betginner's guide to Buddhist philosophy is "What the Buddha Taught" by Walpola Rahula. And a good combination of the two is "The Heart of Buddhist Meditation" by Nyanaponika Thera.
Nice Companion to Meditation.......2004-01-08
This book focuses it's compass point on Vipassana meditation, often coined "insight meditation." Here Joseph Goldstein offers us a very large body of work explainig hindrances during meditation, and essentially the practice of facing what is happening. This meditation is not about contriving any sort of "good feelings" or "happy thoughts", instead, it is the meditation of experiencing what is. And to delve a bit further, through this style of meditation we are able to see the transparent nature of these "hindrances." There are many forms of meditation to practice out there, yet this is so very crucial because it is a way of saying hello to yourself, in the deepest sense.
I would recommend, as Goldstein does suggest, recording some of the exercises he provides here on tape to play during sitting periods. That or read a section or so right before you meditate. "The Experience of Insight" is a good reminder during "rough periods" of practice, where our minds are very restless and we feel as though something is wrong with us because of that.
Anyhow, I think you'll like this book, so please enjoy it.
Clear and Understandable Buddhism.......2002-07-25
If you've ever been perplexed or baffled by books on Buddhism - especially books on Zen Buddhism - your perplexity will vanish when you read this book. The Experience of Insight is a well-edited transcription of many talks given to participants over the course of a one-month meditation retreat. The teachings are largely coaching for meditation. During the retreat, these short talks were small pockets of coaching between large stretches of silence and meditation. That may be why the information comes across so clearly and so usefully.
You'll learn, probably with more understanding than you've ever had before, the Buddhist fundamentals: The Four Noble Truths, the Eightfold Path, the seven factors of enlightenment, etc. But they are explained in a way that makes their relevance and importance to your practice perfectly clear. I'm the author of the book, Self-Help Stuff That Works, and I've specialized in knowing the difference between information that merely sounds great and instruction that actually helps, and Joseph Goldstein manages to deliver teachings that will really help you in your meditation practice. He will inspire you, encourage you, and teach you good technique. If you meditate and would like support for your practice, The Experience of Insight is the best you will find.
A Great Experience.......2002-07-15
I picked up this book in hopes of becoming more acclimated with Insight (or Vipassana) meditation. The format is unique in that it is excerpts from speeches given by Mr. Goldstein during a 30 day meditation retreat. Each "chapter" is a different topic, some consisting of a page or two (usually the morning talks) while others span upwards of 10 pages. I liked this format because it felt a little like reading a daily journal. You can follow along, reading a passage in the morning, then one in the evening or whatever pace you choose. One aspect that I really liked was the question and answer section at the end of each evening talk. Many of the questions that I had after reading the passage were brought up and explained in these sections.
The topics chosen by Mr. Goldstein are basic but interesting. The author has a great skill of bringing in outside sources to help clarify and reinforce the ideas that are being expressed. Whether it be Taoism, Japanese Zen, or Tibeten Buddhism, Goldstein shows how closely the hearts of these teachings resemble each other. He also takes time to show that the different schools of Buddhism are just different ways of looking at the same thing or, as he puts it, different fingers pointing to the same moon. To become pre-occupied with the finger is to miss the main point.
As for actual instruction on sitting meditation, this book covers some things lightly but doesn't get into a lot of depth on it. He talks briefly about the common "Mindfulness of Breathing" meditation (along with some small variations on it) and also meta bhavana (lovingkindness) meditation. As far as this aspect of the book goes, I still prefer Pramanada's meditation guide, "Change Your Mind," to this one because of it's detail.
Whether you are new to Buddhism (and it's meditation) or have been practicing it for a while, this book has something to offer you. The journal-like format and easy-reading prose that Goldstein displays allows the reader to focus on the teachings and not the style. I highly recommend you give it a try.

Book Description
Underlying all meditation techniques, including martial arts-and in fact underlying all great athletic performances-is a quality of being awake and present to the moment, a quality that Osho calls awareness. Once we can identify and understand what this quality of awareness is, we have the key to self-mastery in virtually every area of our lives.According to great masters like Lao Tzu or Buddha, most of us move through our lives like sleepwalkers. Never really present in what we are doing, never fully alert to our environment, and not even aware of what motivates us to do and say the things we do.At the same time, all of us have experienced moments of awareness-or awakening, to use another-in extraordinary circumstances. On the road, in a sudden and unexpected accident, time seems to stop and one is suddenly aware of every movement, every sound, every thought. Or in moments that touch us deeply-welcoming a new baby into the world for the first time, or being with someone at the moment of death.Awareness, says Osho, is the key to being self-directed, centered, and free in every aspect of our lives. In this book, Osho teaches how to live life more attentively, mindfully, and meditatively, with love, caring and consciousness.OSHO challenges readers to examine and break free of the conditioned belief systems and prejudices that limit their capacity to life in all its richness. He has been described by the Sunday Times of London as one of the "1000 Makers of the 20th Century" and by Sunday Mid-Day (India) as one of the ten people-along with Gandhi, Nehru, and Buddha-who have changed the destiny of India. More than a decade after his death in 1990, the influence of his teachings continues to expand, reaching seekers of all ages in virtually every country of the world.

Awareness To Transcend A Mundane Life.......2004-04-22
Osho writes with astounding accuracy and illumination where you will be brought awareness to wake up from a life filled with mundane existence, and move into the present moment in order to re-create the life you deserve.
He uses many wonderful examples from Buddhist teachings, and puts them all into plain English, in modern 20th century language. He quotes psychologists, and Enlightened Masters alike. This book is more for a person who is trying to figure out what their life is all about, and who feels trapped in a life that feels almost empty or meaningless.
Osho's writings about people in America, being "asleep" and un-awakened may offend some readers in the USA. My suggestion is to take the great wisdom Osho brings in this book that applies to you in your life so that you can move forward in a positive way, and to simply let the more opinionated views of people in the West roll off your back. This book does have some great wisdom that many could use, and at the same time, some people may feel slighted from his judgmental tone.
His book is worth reading; just don't let your ego get in the way so you can take in the worthwhile wisdom he genuinely gives.
Sometimes helpful, sometimes false and annoying.......2003-11-13
Osho has a very good logical sensibility and makes many wonderful and helpful points about developing awareness. Some of his points are simply those that have been repeated in many books on meditation and mindfulness, but others are helpful in their unique insight. I found his points on "Centering" and "Tension and Relaxation" to be very helpful, and enjoyed many of the thoughts scattered throughout the book, such as a beautiful passage on "rising in love" as opposed to "falling in love."
However, one of Osho's biggest character flaws was his sense of superiority, and the book's all-knowing and magnanimous tone can be grating, especially when Osho says things that are inaccurate and just plain false. Osho's knowledge about politics was fatally flawed; later in his life he expressed admiration for authoritarianism, even praising Hitler. A passage on how Russia and India would make more responsible decisions about nuclear weapons than America in this book is particularly absurd and calls to mind the man's very flawed political views.
Osho's constant harping about the East's superiority to the West is irritating as well, particularly because it adds no extra insight and really is not a necessary part of the text. Further, it contradicts Osho's encouragement for readers to learn to overcome the mind's need to evaluate and compare. Osho devalues the analytical and logical accomplishments of the West even as he utilizes such approaches throughout his book. "Witnessing" is not the cure to everything, as Osho's life so aptly demonstrated. Some of his authoritative pronouncements could be harmful to those who would not challenge Osho's stance on something like therapy, the process of which could actually help a person with problems of repression of past trauma move more toward a state of awareness.
Osho's knowledge of science is almost nonexistent, and yet he speaks of science with the same authoritative tone he uses in speaking of everything else. His inaccuracies on all of these topics would only be a minor irritation if he did not use inaccurate statements as the basis for many of his arguments about awareness. This book would have been much better if the editors had left out some of Osho's wildly false observations and edited out some of the parts where he repeats himself endlessly for pages. Osho was a flawed human being, but also had a deep knowledge of inner development. This book reflects that dichotomy.
I would not argue against reading or buying it, but would encourage readers to be aware as they read the book so that they can separate the wheat of Osho's insights about becoming more aware from the chaff of his flawed egotistical pronouncements, divisive statements, and inaccurate claims.
Clarity in great abundance..........2002-09-22
...that is typical of Osho. Awareness is the heart of all sincere effort, and nobody says it better. This book contains the elixir a confused, mind-addled world needs so very badly. Buy three...one for yourself, and two for friends, and ask them to do the same.
Osho knows what he is talking about.......2002-04-10
The subject of awareness is the most trascendental, complex and profound in the field of spirituality. Awareness is the real direction of life evolutionary process on this planet. Today, only very few persons in the world can speak with authority about this subject. Osho is one of them. I do not know of others, except Krisnamurti and Gurdjieff in the past. I found Osho the most elocuent, clear and compassionate of all. Thanks to St. Martin Press for giving us this rare gem of practical insight.

In any meditation class, one of the first things one learns is the importance of breathing. For Larry Rosenberg, a seasoned instructor of insight meditation, the breath is everything. And he's not in bad company since the Buddha himself delivered a sutra on the subject. Rosenberg's Breath by Breath is an elaboration on this short classic but couched in familiar language, liberally spiced with anecdotes from Rosenberg's decades of practice and teaching. It's Rosenberg's earthy humor and patient instruction that make him such a popular teacher and that make Breath by Breath a rewarding read. He takes the beginning student from the wandering "doggy mind" to becoming a chicken, along the way getting a teacher's bite and sitting like a frog. For the hurried and harried, he includes a nutshell, two-step version of the sutra's 16-step practice (appended in the full text of the sutra). More of a coach than a disciplinarian, Rosenberg takes a see-what-happens attitude. "You don't make liberation happen," he says. "To contemplate breathing is to contemplate life itself." --Brian Bruya
Book Description
Freedom from suffering is not only possible, but the means for achieving it are immediately within our grasp—literally as close to us as our own breath. This is the 2,500-year-old good news contained in the Anapanasati Sutra , the Buddha's teaching on cultivating both tranquility and deep insight through full awareness of breathing. In this book, Larry Rosenberg brings this timeless meditation method to life. Using the insights gained from his many years of practice and teaching, he makes insight meditation practice accessible to modern practitioners.

Very Well Written, Interesting and Informative.......2007-09-15
mindfullness of the breath. and opener of many doors. larry quotes the buddha... "the summary of all my teaching is 'do not attach to me or mine'" really i guess larry has summed up half of all buddhism by quoting this therevadan approach. the emotional and psychic enlightenment side of buddhism.
there is very little on mahayanan 'philosophical' enlightenment, but i am incredibly grateful to this great teacher for quoting the buddha and for his introduction to mindfullness of the breath.
larry may have given more than he ever realises, this man is a true master.
love, snow-flake. xxx
Anapanasati in plain English.......2007-07-03
Breath by Breath is an outstanding and seamless synthesis of interventions and talks that Rosenberg held about the Buddhist sutra (i.e., text) on the 'awareness on breathing' during his thirty-year teaching experience at Vipassana retreats and courses. Rosenberg style is plain and direct and his personal anecdotes make this fundamental teaching even more vivid and present for both beginners and expert practitioners. Clear links to other relevant Buddhist teachings make this text a good introduction to the Dhamma (Theravada tradition), as well.
All things considered, one of best introductions to the matter, a book that sheds a contemporary and western perspective on an universal and antique wisdom by focussing more on the main concepts and underlying rationales of Buddhist mindfulness practice and breath awareness (and its consequences on any personal life) than on some particular technique or method.
Breath by Breath.......2007-05-20

Good Pointers for Learning the proper way of Thinking in embarking to learn the Insight Medition.......2007-03-12
Great book for learning the right frame of mind and the concepts of learning the Insight Meditation. Although this is not the complete book of learning the complex practice of Vipassana-Bhavana, for conditioning the mind to a proper way of thinking, before embarking your quest to Insight Meditation or reviewing things thats on your way, this is a good book.

The Message of Leadership.......2007-09-10
This book, though small in size, has a profound message. There is a reading for each day of the month. The message is timeless. This summer my family was gathered for a couple of weeks. We read the verses and passages each day and in the evening met to discuss them. This book would be great for personal use, as well as group discussion. A great gift idea.
Very good devotional.......2007-05-13
The translation is from Peterson's Message, the devotional narrative is by Daniel Southern. Topically selected scripture is very good. Scriptually thoughtful presentation on the daily topic is interesting. A worthwhile daily devotional.

Meditation for Beginners.......2007-01-08
This is a fabulous CD set, with life changing value. Anyone remotely interested in meditation or personal reflection will truly benefit from the teachings of Jack Kornfield.
Meditation for Beginners.......2007-01-06
This is a very easy way to get started with meditation. Jack Kornfield is one of the most informative instructors for meditation.
Meditation for Beginners.......2007-01-05
As someone who only recently began seriously trying to meditate, I found this CD helpful. It explained how to quiet and focus the mind in preparation for the meditative state.
Start Here!.......2006-11-10
Jack Kornfield is a great way to begin your journey of meditation. He is a calming and informed voice. I had many "ah-ha" moments listening to his work. I highly recommend it.
The Art of Meditation.......2006-10-25
"The first session of meditation practice is a beginning like the beginning of any art form. Like any other art form, the art of meditation takes some time to practice." ~ Jack Kornfield
Meditation for Beginners truly is perfect for anyone who is just starting to meditate because it includes a Guided Meditation CD. The book introduces you to why meditation is a good idea, how to connect with the breath and how to cultivate a daily meditation practice.
The CD has sections for connecting with your breath, working with sensations that arise in the body, dealing with feelings and emotions, and observing your thoughts. The last two sections include a Forgiveness (7:13) and Lovingkindness (10:50) Meditation.
Jack Kornfield studied in monasteries in Thailand and trained as a Buddhist monk in Thailand and India. He is also the author of "After the Ecstasy, the Laundry," "Living Dharma" and "A Path with Heart."
As I listened to Jack Kornfield's beautiful voice, I was able to relax more fully and fall into the meditation in the moments of silence. You may lose track of time and just enjoy having Jack guide you through the various meditation practices.
Sometimes it is relaxing to release all your awareness of the moment-to-moment stresses of life and to truly find that place of peace where your body can heal. By listening to a guided meditation session you surrender into the moment and can feel a sense of joy rising from within where true happiness is born.
I remember the first time I tried to meditate and how restless I felt. Now years later, meditation is something I can appreciate for its intrinsic beauty and revelatory nature. If you find you are feeling especially restless, try exercising before meditating or doing a yoga routine right before the guided sessions.

Book Description
Compassion is a word that has been used to describe a range of human behaviors and attitudes, from sympathy and forgiveness to mercy and charity. In this tenth volume of the popular Insights for a New Way of Living series, Osho examines the nature of compassion from a radically different perspective. He points out that passion lies at the root of the word, and then proceeds to challenge assumptions about what compassion really is. Many so-called acts of compassion, he says, are tainted by a subtle sense of self-importance and desire for recognition. Others are based in the desire not really to help others, but to force them to change. Using stories from the life of Jesus, Buddha, and the world of Zen, Osho shows how the path to authentic compassion arises only from within, beginning with a deep acceptance and love of oneself.

Bodhi's Review of Compassion by Osho.......2007-05-12
The Zen monks have a tea ritual whereas one is totally immersed in the moment sipping tea with full awareness, sipping a little bit at a time, enjoying the flavor, enjoying the aroma. I recommend that you treat this book as such, reading a few pages at a time so you can absorb the insights a little bit at a time, giving yourself time to truly appreciate what Osho has to say. I read a few pages in the early morning when my mind is still fresh, clear and when I can still appreciate this gift.

Customer Reviews:
Best introduction to mindfulness available.......2007-04-21
This book is not a how-to-meditate introduction, but rather a why-we-meditate introduction. It is a wonderful book by an amazing teacher--a kind and caring individual who has made a big difference in the Dharma world. This book might change your life--buy it!
Joseph Goldstein covers all the bases here.......2006-01-27
"Surrender does not mean passive resignation. Rather it means surrender to the Dharma, to the truth of the moment's experience."
"Through meditation we open both to what is pleasant and to what is unpleasant, with genuine acceptance and balance.
"How many pleasant feelings have we already enjoyed? Too many even to count. And yet we still feel that something is lacking, something is not complete. Without understanding how or why, we stay on the treadmill, endlessly looking for yet another pleasant experience. It is hardest to cure a disease when the medicine we take itself causes the disease."
"Practising mindfulness of the body is one of the easiest ways to stay present in life. This mode of awareness works so well that Buddha devoted many teachings to it. He said that mindfulness of the body leads to nirvana, to freedom, to the unconditioned. Use your body as a vehicle for awakening."
As the above quotes show, Joseph Goldstein has a remarkable ability to put subtle Buddhist notions into plain language. "Insight Meditation" is an outstanding guidebook for anyone interested in improving the quality of their life using the ancient practice of Vipassana. Highly recommended!
The best book I've read on meditation.......2005-12-15
I have read a number of books about meditation and have practiced meditation, on and off, for five years. This is without question the best book I've read on the subject. It not only taught me much about meditation, but also inspired me to practice more. Moreover, Goldstein talks extensively about how mindfulness can be practiced throughout life--not just while meditating. This is something that few other authors do.
A very useful introduction to the practice.......2001-09-19
I purchased this book in 1994, when I first sought to begin the practice of meditation. Joseph Goldstein's writing gave me the understanding I needed to pursue the practice, and find my own meditative space. There are a number references to Buddhist concepts that some may not find useful, but those pale next to the foundation that this book can provide.
A TRUE BODHISATTVA !.......2000-05-01
I highly recommend this book and any book by Joseph Goldstein. He is an absolutely incredible teacher, author, and spiritual friend. His teachings have had a deep impact on my life. This book is amazing!

Book Description
For centuries, Dzogchen, often translated as the "Great Perfection," was a secretly transmitted teaching, unknown beyond the Tibetan culture. Wellsprings of the Great Perfection explains how the Dzogchen teachings came into the world, who received them, and through whom they passed. This impressive collection of translations, many of which have never before appeared in English, is drawn from a vast number of original classical Tibetan sources and includes selections of realization songs by early masters of the lineage. The book describes the early Dzogchen masters’s lives and what they taught, with particular emphasis on events that took place before the teachings were transmitted to Tibet. Enhanced by specially commissioned line drawings by a notable living Tibetan artist, as well as by rare samples of the mystical symbolic script of the dakinis, the book is both a fascinating historical document and a source of sacred knowledge and inspiration.
Customer Reviews:
A history book on marvels of the transmission of awareness.......2007-05-30
Erik Pema Kunzang, the master translator, once again bring us a fantastic book. This book feels like a natural complement to the late Nyoshul Khen Rinpoches giant work "A Marvelous Garland of Rare Gems". It focus on the very early masters of the Dzogchen lineage and their life's. It is a magical quality in Erik's poetic and profound translation that is difficult to find among the many translations of Dzogchen that appear these days. It takes you right into the twilight zone of the root of these thousand's of year long lineages and does open up our hearts to the amazing quality's and possibility's of these profound lineages. On the top of all this Erik adds some Dzogchen teachings never before openly publicized and a handful of songs realizations from these early masters. I recommend this book with all my heart.
