Book Description
Of all of his works, Intuitive Thinking as a Spiritual Path is the one that Steiner himself believed would have the longest life and the greatest spiritual and cultural consequences. It was written as a phenomenological account of the "results of observing the human soul according to the methods of natural science.
This seminal work asserts that free spiritual activity - understood as the human ability to think and act independently of physical nature - is the suitable path for human beings today to gain true knowledge of themselves and of the universe. This is not merely a philosophical volume, but rather a warm, heart-oriented guide to the practice and experience of living thinking.
Readers will not find abstract philosophy here, but a step-by-step account of how a person may come to experience living, intuitive thinking - "the conscious experience of a purely spiritual content."
During the past hundred years since it was written, many have tried to discover this "new thinking" that could help us understand the various spiritual, ecological, social, political, and philosophical issues facing us. But only Rudolf Steiner laid out a path that leads from ordinary thinking to the level of pure spiritual activity - intuitive thinking - in which we become co-creators and co-redeemers of the world.

What kind of review?.......2001-01-31
Are there words to be found for this book? I wish courage to all those who want to give it a try and read it. Life gets different after the experience...
A Philosophy of Spiritual Activity.......2000-04-13
This is a new translation of Rudolf Steiner's most important work. It has an especially good introduction by Gertrude Hughes Reif. However, I preferred the two older titles: "Philosophy of Freedom" and "Philosophy of Spiritual Activity" because the significance of the experience of the book comes across better for me with those titles. This is not a book that can be "read" in the usual sense. It must be worked on because it forces you to think about your own thinking. Through this difficult process you yourself discover your spiritual self, your "I" being. This book should be the most important book of the last 100 years, but it hasn't been because there are not many people who want to discover themselves. That is too fearful and difficult. It is much easier to be asleep or to belong to a religion or to have a guru. For anyone who is brave and courageous about "Know Thyself!" this is THE book.
Ever wondered how you KNOW anything?.......1998-10-11
Perhaps one of the most significant questions you can ask in your life: How can I know anything? How can I feel sure that what I hold as the basis for reality has any reality at all? These and other significant life questions are worked through in this remarkable philosophical work. Be prepared to do your own work as you follow the intuitive path that has been carefully outlined by Rudolf Steiner. The careful reader will find few books more deeply satisfying. I have returned to re-read it many times.

Book One of Two.......2007-04-20
If you ever wanted to understand the true foundation of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, this book is a must have! I cannot recommend this book enough! Mr. Greer's explanations of the magical workings of the Cabala and its relations to the Golden Dawn system of magic are well worth the lofty price to acquire this book. "Paths of Wisdom" sets the stage for Mr. Greer's follow-up book "Circles of Power". If you are an aspiring solitary magician looking for a fresh approach to the Golden Dawn traditon of magic, then invest your money wisely and buy these books. You are guaranteed a well rounded education in the high magical arts.
Another Gem from John Michael Greer........2006-10-19
First off, I must present my biased disclaimer of being a huge fan of John Michael Greer. Few authors in this field have his ability to tackle a complex subject, gather an immense amount of information, sift through the dross, and present it in such accessible and practical fashion.
Paths of Wisdom is no exception. If you own only 1 book on the Hermetic Qabala (as distinct from the traditional Hebrew type), MAKE SURE this is it! Qabala, by its very nature, can be a complex, pedantic, and often dry and confusing study. However, the patient and persistent student will find great rewards. Too often one learns the rudiments while lacking the deep understandings, which can be subtle and paradoxical. This book helps clarify all that. Granted, there's a lot of material here too, and it'll take time to fully absorb all the hidden jewels. But the engaging and lucid writing style makes this anything but a dry reference or "how to" manual.
Greer does not lose sight that to experience the Qabala is to practice and live the tradition each day, not just read and discuss it. Paths of Wisdom is a reminder that Qabala is not a static, pedantic methodology that exists in a vacuum, but a beautiful, living, dynamic system that evolves alongside humanity's aspirations to re-discover our forgotten Oneness. As a valuable tool for personal growth, pathworkings are presented as a freeform, archetypal, and deeply subjective experience based on the Tree of Life's path symbology, and not as the common, predefined, guided visualizations. The incredible and often neglected faculty of the human Imagination is greatly emphasized. The aspects and symbology of the Tree of Life are very well presented. With this book and Greer's equally excellent Circles of Power, the student of The Western Mysteries will find a lifetime of treasures and inspired direction for their sacred journey.
INCREDIBLE WORK OF ART!.......2006-03-30
What an unbelievable gem. I wish to the gods this wasn't $8 million used. I can say without reservation that it is one of the best Cabala/Kabbalah/Qabalah book EVER WRITTEN. Why it's no longer printed, the world will never know. JMGreer is planning on expanding it and printing it with another publisher, luckily.
If you ever come across a cheaper copy--or have the extra dough to spend--I recommend this book immensely, for accurate and clearly explained Kabbalah study AND magickal practice. I can't recommend it highly enough. Because most people can't afford this, I second this recommendation with "The Magic of Qabalah" by Kala Trobe and "The Mystical Qabalah" by Dion Fortune. You won't be disappointed with either. Beginner or advanced, all of these both invaluable, accurate and wise.
another superior book from greer.......2003-08-09
this book is very easy to read and understand. it brings many of the complex concepts of the qabala, (as understood in the golden dawn) to a level most students can understand. it's like a more interesting version of the golden dawn papers. i'd also recommend Dion Fortune's mystical qabala.
Priceless Guide to The Cabalah--Like having a Teacher !.......2003-03-17
For nearly ten years, I have flirted with the idea of studying Cabalah (Kabalah, Qabalah--however you want to spell it) and I have been a member of several Mystery Schools and Masonic organizations that espouse the need to study Cabalah.... However, until I found this book, I just was not sure where to begin (this decision was difficult, pre-Internet) !
Previous to reading this book, I knew of Gematria, Notariquon, Temura and the basic layout of the Tree of Life --and I even tackled Crowley's "777," but I just was not sure what to start memorizing, or which school had it right....
This book cleared-up so many of the confusing aspects of The Cabalah and the Tree of Life--with clear, concise descriptions of the various aspects of the study (with helpful illustrations). This book is the equivalent of having a Teacher, who takes the time to explain The Cabalah, in detail --without all the usual egotistical, rambling, extraneous material found in many books on the subject (e.g., Crowley's dissertations on the subject).
John Michael Greer takes you by the hand and says, "Let's start with the beginning...." --whereas Crowley just throws you into the Deep End and says, "Sink or Swim."
Personally, I like Greer's method of Teaching Cabalah! Reading this book makes studying Cabalah interesting, fun and EASY (and you do not need to wade through numerous pages of extraneous ramblings to find the teachings--they are all laid-out and diagramed, concisely....unlike most pretentious works on the subject).
I also highly recommend purchasing the following book in conjunction with (or because you cannot find/afford this one, due to the sad fact that it is ludicrously "out of print") :
"The Chicken Qabalah of Rabbi Lamed Ben Clifford: Dilettante's Guide to What You Do and Do Not Know to Become a Qabalist" by Lon Milo Duquette (ISBN # 1578632153). This book receives rave reviews from Kabalists.
These two books, together, are perfect for the Beginner. Both of these men have a wonderful way of setting Personal Ego aside, and explaining Cabalah as a Friend and Teacher, instead of a Mystical "Know it All."
Anyone who has ever been Intimidated by the study of The Cabalah, or by various well-known Cabalist's works, should acquire this book (if possible) and Duquette's book, as well.
Also, obviously, you will need the famous "777" and other well-known Cabalistic Reference works (Sepher Yetzirah, etc.)....but, for the Beginner, "Paths of Wisdom" is the perfect starting point on the Journey up The Tree of Life.
Book Description
A guidebook to using the Kabbalah to transform our consciousness in order to heal the body, mind, and spirit
• Describes a process of unification with God and the healing implications of that process for our daily life
• Introduces four kabbalistic universes that form a topographical map of reality
• Offers a unique perspective on human consciousness and the nature of existence from a leading modern kabbalist
Kabbalistic Healing shows how the Kabbalah--the Jewish mystical path to knowing reality--can kindle the central fire in our being so that we can unite with the divine. It describes the ultimate healing possible for the human soul: an awakening to our true nature that makes our former life seem as if we have been asleep.
The Kabbalah is not an advanced study; it is the first study, because it speaks directly to our fundamental desire to know what life is about. To Shulman, the Kabbalah is the living experience of our real self, the self that is always connected to God, the self that lives in God the way a fish lives in water.
Kabbalistic Healing is about the process of unification, of joining with reality, and the implications of that process for daily life. It draws upon the author’s work at A Society of Souls, which promotes the belief that the ultimate form of healing is to create a unitive or nondual state of consciousness, integrating the healthy human ego into its proper relationship with transcendent reality. As we deepen our understanding of our true selves and enhance our ability to hold new states of consciousness, we are able not only to heal ourselves but to help heal others as well.

Describes the ultimate healing possible for the human soul.......2004-12-06
Kabbalistic healing: A Path To An Awakened Soul by and modern kabbalist Jason Shulman (a recognized teacher in the Buddhist lineage of Shaka Kendo Rich Art, Abbot of the Clear Mountain Center and a faculty member of The New York Open Center, Esalen Institute, and Omega Institute) describes the ultimate healing possible for the human soul through an awakening of one true nature. Shulman covers the process of unification, of joining with reality, and the implications of that process for daily life. Kabbalistic Healing is especially recommended reading for those who are seeking a deeper and integrated understanding of themselves.
Amazon.com's Best of 2001
Rabbi Marc Gafni is a Kabbalist, someone who studies the mystical interpretations of biblical books, handed down over many generations. Through his studies Gafni became fascinated with the power of biblical myths to awaken the soul while also helping us understand our earthly purpose. The more he delved into the Kabbalah, the more he became interested in the individual blueprint of the soul--how each person seemed born to a different soul-driven destiny.
"Your soul print is your personal signature," explains Gafni. "It is the contour and content of your soul--it's character.... It is even more singular to you than your genes and chromosomes."
In blending his two passions, "soul prints" and myths, Rabbi Gafni created an ambitious spiritual self-help book filled with sage advice on living in connection with the soul. Don't be squeamish about the self-help mission. Gafni's narrative reads more like a personal counseling session in a rabbi's private office--intelligent, warm (expect lots of chuckles), occasionally tangential, but mostly filled with practical guidance. He also inserts numerous sidebars that offer "Soul Print Practices," such as "Make a list of the seven wonders of your world" or "Take sensual risks. Be creative with your senses in how or what you eat, or make love." --Gail Hudson
Book Description
A charismatic American philosopher living in Jerusalem, Marc Gafni has become an important voice on religion and spirituality through his enormously popular weekly television program; now, his universal message comes to America, fully realized, in his first book.
Marc Gafni follows in the tradition of Rabbi Harold Kushner and Ram Dass, bringing wisdom to everyday experience and using spiritual stories to teach us
how to live happier lives. The secret is to "live your story," and we do this by identifying our unique selves -- our "soul prints." Only then can we connect on a deeper level with the world and with those sharing it alongside us.
Soul Prints speaks to all readers, regardless of religious beliefs or
practices. Using the power of myth -- Biblical and folk -- and drawing on
his own highs and lows, Gafni offers advice on how to overcome the
obstacles of an increasingly disconnected world to form bonds based in
truth and love: connections that begin with our true selves.

No more looking in all the wrong places.......2006-08-22
Nothing will prepare you for the level of search, the journey and the discoveries you will make, guided by Mark Gafni. It is mystical without being partial. Be prepared t source the real you.
Four stars: The fifth star of this book is you.
Understand yourself through myth.......2006-02-11
Although no of the Jewish faith, I thoroughly enjoyed discovering myself through these stories of biblical and folk myths. The "Soul Print Practice" exercises were also illuminating. Much more than a "self help" book and students of Kabbalah will probably be particularly drawn to it.
I couldn't believe how nice this was!.......2005-08-04
This book arrived and it was in perfect condition. I surely could not tell it was used. It looked brand new. I would order again and again like this. I am extremely pleased with my purchase and the timeliness of it's arrival!
A work to inspire your interest in traditional Jewish texts .......2005-02-08
Rabbi Gafni is a brilliant if problematic teacher of traditional Jewish texts. In this work he wants to help his readers escape their loneliness and difficulties in life through finding their own ' soul-print' their own spiritual I.D. In self- help book fashion he preaches that the way to one's true self is the way to a meaningful life. Unfortunately Rabbi Gafni does this while ignoring the more traditional Jewish view that the deepest way to find oneself is through giving to others in one's own family and community, to worshipping not oneself but God. Yet Rabbi Gafni reads Midrashim with startling insight , and it seems to me that there is great benefit in reading this book if only in that it shows the readers(who probably have small knowledge of traditional Jewish texts including Midrashim) how deep and powerful the Jewish tradition is.
Pop Psychology.......2004-07-17
Marc Gafni's Soul Prints is a postitive book, however its basically just pop psychology mixed with Kabalistic overtones to give the pop psych a different flavor. There are alot of people out there that mix pop psychology with cultural overtones selling books and making a living lecturing, i dont think ther is anything wrong with it. However its kind of like going to the super market and seeing 30 different brands of detergent; they all basically do the same thing. Basically what i'm saying is if you already read a self help book then dont waste your time with this one.

Generally excellent but perhaps incidentally misleading.......2006-08-02
Unless he means it only symbolically, it is regrettable, considering the otherwise excellent and clear presentation, that the author could be misleading on one significant point, so-called "re-incarnation".
On page 20 under "The Journey Begins" we find: "... the stars of the zodiac, symbolizing the many stages of attainment that all physical incarnations will eventually experience." As the metaphysicist René Guénon explained in "The Spiritist Fallacy" here in English translation at Amazon, the notion of "re-incarnation" resulted from a confusion of the concepts of "metemphychosis" and "transmigration" by theosophists in the 19th century.
[..]
As Mr Hulse cites theosophists as sources, it follows that in spite of his erudition, the author apparently has not yet sorted out this confusion in his own mind. Thus, Mr Hulse uses only the cube model and does not proceed to the cylindrical and vortex models Guenon explained in "The Symbolism of the Cross", here at Amazon:
[..]
Upon the study of Guenon's 2 works mentioned above and, considering Mr Hulse's mental capabilities, also of "The Multiple States of the Being" and "The Metaphysical Principles of the Infinitesimal Calculus" (both available here at Amazon), Mr Hulse will be able to clarify the issue in new editions of his books.
Nevertheless, "New Dimensions for the Cube of Space" is an excellent development of a dimension of the tarot mentioned previously by Paul Foster Case. The format, layout and illustrations in the book are outstanding.
It may be useful to bear in mind that the The Fool can symbolise not only the "metaphysical 1" but also, alternatively, the "metaphysical 0", the indifferentiated non-manifested Ain Soph.
An exciting, crystal clear map of the Path!.......2005-01-19
I loved this book! It is very well written - fun and easy to read, yet packed FULL of insight on the Tarot and how the cards relate and chronicle the spiritual path we are all on. As a relative "newcomer" to the Path, I have found this book to be invaluable. I was amazed at how my own spiritual progress (so far) closely parallels the author's explanation of the soul's journey around the Cube of Space. The book not only provided logical explanations for some past events in my life, but also has given me a wondrous glimpse of where I am headed and what to expect. Also, the book comes with a colorful cut out of the Cube that is a great visualization aid. (I only wish all books of this flavor where so clear......!)
Useful and Inspiring.......2004-07-30
Familiarizing ourselves with the 'spatial' dimensions of the Major Arcana of the Tarot deck help us appreciate the archetypes within, such as the Fool and the Emperor, in a much more substantial way and grounding way. The author of this book carefully charts the course of incarnating onto the earth plane, the perils involved in such a journey but also the means to excarnate as well through the Cube of Space and its many facets. For anyone interested in expanding their awareness of Tarot and how it applies to the spiritual path, this is a most useful and inspiring book.
Very good overview of the diferent stages of Awakening.......2003-07-08
This book help me to understand the many phases of Awakening we go through as we go inward to find and be our self's... As a student of the B.O.T.A. school it gave me another point of view of the many things I have learned over the years with B.O.T.A. and gave me new understanding of what to do to finish one of my stages of awakening in this life....
Instructions.......2003-02-28
This book is NOT for someone who is not in tune with Qabala.I am still looking for instructions HOW TO.For someone who is deep in to study of Qabala it may be OK, however simple instructions would have been a great help.

Enlightening and thought provoking........2000-04-02
Mary Summer Rain has captured, and proliferated in writing, the true nature of the quintessential lucid dreamer, the dreamwalker. For those others who have reviewed this book and have found it to not possess the pragmatic answers they expected, be reminded that not all questions in this walk are answered. "When the student is ready, the teacher will come."
Interesting subject matter, but somewhat evasive with info........1998-12-28
Although I really enjoyed this book, I felt that much of the information she presented was alluded to and not explained to the reader. This left me bothered. I wanted a braver approach to the material that she tackles. Metaphysical or Spiritual books lack in effectiveness when the author is the only one experiencing the revelations. I didn't feel I was given a clear opportunity to relate. I was hoping for some more profound insights...the 'aha' to come. This was the first book that I have read by Mary Summer Rain, and it is one of her earliest works. I would be interested to read one of her more recent publications, since her subject matter is so interesting, and I enjoy her straight-forward style of writing.

Excellent book!.......2005-09-17
Anyone attempting to understand and use the qabala system will benefit greatly from this book. Dolores is a magnificent writer and knows her stuff. HIGHLY RECOMENDED.
Guided Meditation on the Sefiroth.......2004-11-08
The author has provided a complete set of visualizations on the various Kabbalistic Sefiroth as a guided path towards growth via meditation. It is interesting and even inspiring and a bit poetic as well. It's loaded with symbols of great meaning, but with symbols in general, their meanings are multiple and varied and, ultimately individual as well as collective. I think this book could be a very useful tool as long as the reader doesn't get lost in the fact that it is the author's view and not necessarily accurate for everyone. It is somewhat reminiscent of the ancient Hekalot literature describing a mystical journey through the palaces of heaven, the Talmudic description of the four who travelled to the Garden from which only Rabbi Akiva came away unscathed, the Egyptian Book of the Dead, and the Egyptian Book of Gates. It can be viewed either as a light story (or myth) OR as a set of highly advanced mystical practices in the Kabbalistic tradition. Your choice. If you like it, I would recommend Z'ev ben Shimon Halevi's books, especially the "Way of the Kabbalist."
This will help you to understand the energies of the Tree.......2004-08-11
I have been involved in metaphysical subjects since 1969 and could not understand the Kabbalah or the Tree of Life until the initial printing of this book came out. This is a GREAT book for people of a non-Jewish background, especially if you are a Pagan, who wish to understand this glyph of the Kabbalah. Once you read the book it will enlighten you to the reason of why the Sephira react the way they do. My advice is to get a copy of this book, read it as a novel (like Alice's Adventures in Wonderland) then get a diagram of the Tree of Life, see the correlations, and do the chapters as a meditation. Then you can go back to Jewish texts about the Tree and understand what they are trying to say. This is a CLASSIC, EASY-TO-UNDERSTAND Text about the Tree of Life that shouldn't keep going out of print the way it does,so get yours today.
A true companion.......2003-02-13
If I ever end up shipwrecked on an island with no hope of rescue, this is the one book I MUST have with me. It's twenty years old now and for pleasure I still reread all of the pages, finding new details and new insights. In the introduction, the author suggests reading with deliberation and care. She probably didn't have my pace in mind! But it's been a joy and a deepending understand with each foray. I highly recommend this work to anyone with a sincere penchant for becoming the best you can be on a spiritual level. It's a 'keeper'.
Glorious, Dramatic Experience.......2000-06-16
Dolores has a gift for the histrionic and leads her guided meditation sessions with a unique flair. In this book she expresses her skills to the utmost and also gives the reader/participator a magnificent grounding in the sephiroth and paths. If you want to study the attributes use this book. Also if you want to set the tree in motion in your life use this book.
Unusual and almost unique.

Another old friend..........2004-09-09
This is another of the books in my library that I find myself thinking about, and coming back to, regularly. It's just good writing, to begin with, and offers many evocative phrases to help readers name their everyday experiences of the sacred... "Universal firsthand realizations of Oneness" is just such a phrase, regularly confirmed in my daily rounds. A very wise book.
Genuinely American Spirituality.......1997-05-18
Berends speaks from experience, unlike many authors who just ruminate on the thoughts of others. She speaks of learning to float in Fundamental Mind, as she had learned in a college swimming class to float in water. Neither was easy for her, and she mastered both. She left this record of the process, and suggestions for those who wish to learn the same discipline.
I read this book partway through a comparative religion Ph.D. program. Spending five years digging through the midden of human religion gives one a critical eye, and that eye tells me that Berends' book might endure.

Product Description
In this cornerstone work, Samael Aun Weor explains in clear terms the entire basis of all esoteric work: Kabbalistic symbology. This is the language of the Internal Worlds.
"In these studies of Kabbalah, we need to be practical; there are authors who write marvels, but when one looks at them, one realizes that they have not lived what they have written; they did not experience it in themselves, and that is why they are mistaken. I understand that one must write what one has directly experienced by oneself. I have proceeded in this way on my part." (Samael Aun Weor)
This book is no mere repetition of what others have written: it is the direct experience of the author. This revolutionary work examines the Tarot and Kabbalah as never before, with brilliant revelations about the mysterious sphere of Daath, whose true nature was never before discussed publicly.
In Five Parts:
1. Description and Study of the Esoteric Tarot
2. Initiation through the Arcana of the Tarot
3. The Kabbalah
4. Numerology and Esoteric Mathematics
5. Predictive Kabbalah

The complete guide to the Path.......2004-08-28
Samael's Tarot & Kabbalah book is especially important for Gnostic students of the old and new generations. It contains wells of wisdom from the Master for us to learn about these mysteries and the truths they contain.
The sacred Tarot and the Hebrew Kabbalah are given in-depth and conclusive esoteric explainations and descriptions as well as excercises and teachings for students to experiment with in order to experience the great mysteries and realities.
Based on the author's personal research, investigation and experience, this great Masterwork is like a monument to knowledge itself. This edition contains extensive diagrams, pictures and illustrations.
As advanced of a book this is, I wholeheartedly recommend it to all human beings who wish to improve their spiritual life and their spiritual knowledge.
Beyond Myself........2004-08-21
I study this book because 5% of me understands it, while the other 95% sincerely yearns to.
I am not ashamed to state that this book strikes in me a universal, pure, and edified emotional key register. I am grateful because it secretly invigorates and harmonizes my intellectual and emotional inner lives.
While not a profound Kabbalist, I strongly urge anyone interested in the studies of Tarot or the Kabbalah to study this book. For those more simply and earnestly interested in the canon and teachings of Samael Aun Weor, I would, perhaps, direct them to shorter and less abstract works such as The Perfect Matrimony, Revolutionary Psychology, or The Great Rebellion.
Blows Away the Cobwebs.......2004-03-19
The study of the Kabbalah has become so popularized, yet most of the books and material that people study are simply repeating the same words over and over, with no real comprehension of where the knowledge has come from. Yet this book, like all the books written by Samael Aun Weor, comes like a flash of lightning, brilliantly revealing the underlying structure to all mystical knowledge. This is because it was written from experiential knowledge, not erudition. It expresses the essence of Gnosis: direct knowledge. I also recommend as a support for the study of this book that you visit gnostickabbalah.com.
A Master Synthesis.......2003-11-18
The Kabbalah and Tarot are not things that need to lie in the heart of mystery. Other readings in to the Kabbalah may be erudite, but what is the point of that if we do not comprehend what is said? Here, with this book, you will comprehend.
A Magnum Opus in the Samael Gnostic series by Thelema.......2003-09-30
The Tarot, Tree of Life, Hebrew Alphabet, Numerology, ALCHEMY, Magic, and of course, Kabbalah...
This book has been perhaps the most comprehensive study of Kabbalah ever written in our modern day.
Finally it has been published for the first time in English for the public. Why? Because it is awe strikingly revolutionary, explicit, and precise.
If you wish to enter into the mysteries of Alchemy and Kabbalah, this is the most comprehensive guide and map you can place your physical eyes upon.
How did the anciect races understand and use the book of 22 chapters (the Tarot)? How do words and letters break down into numbers, exposing the objective inner meanings as it scientifically relates to the vibrations of the cosmic matrix?
How does one develop the objective Sephiroth of the Tree of Life in Oneself?
All these questions and more are answered between the covers of this book.
When you read it, you may be shocked to find that Kabbalah is the one thread that weaves all the occult sciences, ancient religions and mystical practices together.
The students of Esotericism (the secret path), must be Alchemists and Kabbalists so as not to fall into grave error. Read this book to learn the steps to do so.

Kabbalah, the mystical element of Judaism, has undergone an unprecedented surge in popularity in recent years. In Endless Light David Aaron, a rabbi who lives in Jerusalem, presents the ancient system as a source of personal and spiritual sustenance. In the kabbalah, the creation of the universe is an ongoing process; thus, Aaron says, we derive happiness from the journey to our goals rather than from reaching our destination. "If you are ready to see [life] as the challenge of any good game--where the challenge itself is what makes it fun--then your life will not be static, but a dynamic process of growth," he writes. The philosophy he presents is derived from the Torah and other Jewish texts and traditions, but Aaron makes it comprehensible to anyone seeking a new understanding of God, the world, and themselves.
Book Description
After years of careful study, David Aaron helps us find the answers to life's questions as revealed in the Kabbalah, the mystical tradition of Judaism. Unlike other works on the Kabbalah, which are often academic, abstract, and unrelated to our everyday challenges and concerns, Endless Light is a thought-provoking, practical guide that illuminates our path in life.
Rich in personal stories and anecdotes, Endless Light offers a deeper awareness of ourselves, our inner conflicts, and the way we understand and receive life's bounteous gifts. Drawing upon the profound, timeless teachings of the ancients as well as on his own contemporary insights, David Aaron helps truth-seekers of all faiths to enrich their lives, strengthen their faith, and enjoy more meaningful relationships.

Amazingly Good Book.......2006-07-21
If no one said anything, you might not even know that there's anything Kabbalah in the book. It's a very light reading with a lot of positive info and wisdom. I truly enjoyed the read and it has stuck with me over the years and made a valuable impact.
Here's a small excerpt of one of my favorite sections to give you a general idea of the type of teaching inside:
"So let's go back to the beginning of creation again. In the very opening sentences of the Torah we are told that the first human being was created in G-d's own image. And what was that image, you might ask? Consider the possibility that the first human being was actually a single entity that included both sexes. If you don't believe me, read Genesis, chapter 1, verse 27. This is the Soncino Press version of that very puzzling sentence, from which it is apparent that the translator had some trouble juggling genders: "And G-d created man in His own image, in the image of G-d created He him; male and female created He them.""
"So there we have it - the first human being, both male and female. And in this union of the sexes, in this oneness of the sexes, the first human being reflected the image of G-d - a oneness that includes otherness and yet remains one."
"Incidentally, this notion is clearly expressed in the words of a Jewish wedding ceremony. When two people get married, this blessing is recited: "Blessed are You, Hashem, King of the Universe, Who created the human being in Your image." Why is this blessing said at a wedding ceremony? Wouldn't it be more appropriate to say such a blessing when a child is born? The answer is no: it is through the uniting of a man and a woman that the image of G-d is most closely reflected."
"This is a very important concept. A lone individual does not reflect the image of G-d. An individual in unity with an other does. As we saw in the Kabbalistic picture of creation, the light of G-d is a oneness that includes an otherness. So until an individual makes a space to include an other, and allows that other to do the same, we do not have the oneness that reflects the image of G-d."
"But creating that kind of oneness is not simple. It takes real love. And real love is not simple, either. Yet it is possible, even though we usually stumble and fall - fall in and out of love - trying to learn how."
"If we go back to the Torah's story of creation, we come upon a passage, after the human being has been created, where G-d says: "It is not good for man to be alone." After every other act of creation we are told and it was good." But suddenly, "it is not good" - "not good to be alone.""
"G-d determines that the human being needs "a helpmate," but it is a while before Eve is created. Instead, all the birds and animals are created and the human being is asked to name them. At the conclusion of this, the Torah tells us, "... but for Adam no fitting helpmate was found.""
"Why wasn't Adam happy with an animal for a helpmate in his quest for love and oneness? Because an animal is subordinate to man. It's not his equal. In fact, the first human being had been commanded earlier: "Have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth." So Adam could not overcome his loneliness and find true love with a subordinate being, over whom he ruled."
"Indeed, the Torah is very clear in describing an appropriate spouse for Adam. The helpmate is to be kenegdo And the Torah plainly states that man did not find among the animals a helpmate who was kenegdo. The Hebrew word kenegdo means "against, opposite, parallel to." Although the passage is often mistranslated as "I will make a fitting helpmate for him," G-d actually says, "I will make a fitting helpmate *against* him." G-d intends that Adam's helpmate be someone who, in a very positive, respectful way, will stand opposite him and engage him on parallel ground."
"An animal may be a great help to Adam in doing his work, but an animal cannot be the significant other with whom he can share his existence, whom he can truly love. You, too, will not be ultimately satisfied in the quest for love unless it is with a helpmate who is kenegdo - a person whom you acknowledge as your equal and whose difference you respect. A helpmate kenegdo is an other. You cannot overcome loneliness and achieve true love if you are looking for someone who is subordinate to you, who has no mind of his or her own."
"Of course, that's not to say that some insecure people would prefer not to be challenged. I have heard men advise one another, "Get yourself a woman you can mold." And yes, a man might find someone young, inexperienced, and vulnerable and try to make her fit his ridiculous fantasy of a wife who considers him the lord and master. But he will only make his life harder as a result. His will be a very lonely existence and he will sorely miss the engagement that a helpmate kenegdo would have provided, an engagement that is so essential in the process of spiritual growth. All the sadder, in this way he will deprive himself of the opportunity of being the living manifestation of G-d, which is expressed through the ability to love, making a space within oneself to include a unique other."
"A relationship of dominance is not the image of G-d or the image of love - it is not making a space within yourself for an other and giving of yourself to that other. Only when two people give to each other and help each other within a relationship of mutual respect and inclusiveness can they receive the gift of love, the Everlasting Light of love."
"You are probably wondering how all this fits with the well-known verse from the Torah: "He will rule over you." Is this not the very source and justification for man's dominance over women? The answer is, "No, on the contrary." The Torah is telling us that this is a curse, not the norm, and certainly not any kind of an ideal to strive for. Indeed, as part of our mending work, we are responsible for nullifying this curse, just as modern technology in agriculture is nullifying the curse of "by the sweat of your brow shall you eat bread.""
"The Torah and the Kabbalah see the relationship between every couple as part of an ongoing process, fixing the cursed relationship of Adam and Eve and thereby receiving the light of love back into the world."
"This process of restoring the equilibrium between the sexes is seen in all the key male-and-female relationship, in the stories of the Torah. For example, G-d tells Abraham, "All that Sarah [your wife] has said to you, hearken to her voice." Like Sarah, Rebecca, the wife of Isaac, could hardly be described as subordinate to her husband. It was Rebecca who courageously coaxed her son Jacob into disguising himself as his manipulative brother, Esau, so that his blind father would give him the blessing of the first born, intended for Esau. Rebecca had the insight to know that it was truly Jacob who deserved the blessing, and she needed to orchestrate this ploy in order to help Isaac realize his own vulnerability to manipulation. Later, when Jacob married, he did not rule over his two wives, Rachel and Leah. We are told he worked hard to get their agreement before he moved the family, rather than merely announcing his decision regardless of their opinions on the matter."
"The Torah and the Kabbalah clearly teach us that true love is not achieved through domination. It takes mutual respect. It takes appreciation of each other's unique strengths. It takes a great deal of giving to each other."
"A quest for love is a quest for a helpmate kenegdo. It is a quest for someone who thinks differently and yet who will help you, not so much with the responsibilities of daily living as with the responsibilities of daily loving."
Deep Thoughts And Wisdom.......2006-04-15
An inspiring book in a light hearted way. David Aaron interweaves biblical stories with real life tales of spiritual growth. I enjoyed the analogy how man would not be suited to having an animal as a help mate. Thus woman was created. Each chapter ends with some questions for thought which one can read again at a later date.
This is a short book but yet somewhat useful for future reference. Somehow many readers will want a little bit more. Some parts repeat themselves in spots. However, there is plenty of inspirtation to make one feel fulfilled.
"Wisdom in a "Bottle".......2006-03-20
This is the second book I am reading from Rabbi David Aaron. I am an octogonarian and have learned most of the wise teachings of Kabbala interpreted and explained in such an easy understandable languege, rather from long life experience, I think all young teen-agers and adults, should be taught and learn these "instructions" to life and enjoy a productive and meaningfull life. It is true that what one learns from experience - making mistakes - has more indelibility in ones phsyche, then just learning or studying. However knowing early in life the true purpose of life = love, could spare mankind of a lot of unnecesary suffering. Thank you Rabbi of making this deep and abstract "philosophy" so enjoyable and easily understandable.

Highly enjoyable, very enlightening and uplifting.......2005-11-21
Rabbi Aaron offers new and interesting insights into how to form relationships without losing your autonomy. All this is based on Biblical principles and delivered in a concise manor followed by questions to ponder. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I tried reading The Purpose Driven Life, but I never made it past day six. I also highly recommend Rabbi Aaron's other books Seeing God and the Secret Life of God. You don't have to be Jewish to appreciate them. In fact he dispels the often cited myth of the "Old Testament" G-d as wrathful and unforgiving.
