For too many people, all religions are alike. Dr. Gabriel puts the focus on two major world religions and shows how different they really are. We are all familiar with Jesus's counsel to "turn the other cheek" to your enemy. Islam has a very different approach.

Also, Islam's condemnation of anyone who is not a Muslim (infidel) sets up a two-tier theocratic society wherever it rules. Apartheid in South Africa was based on skin color - this one is based on your religious beliefs. Both should be condemned just as strongly as an affront to universal values that promote equality of all men and women.

Buy the book and learn the differences. They are critical to know in this day and age.

The author quotes from the Quran and the hadith (which include Muslim practices and philosophy), both of which he knows well having memorized the Quran by age 12. He also knows the Bible well and quotes effectively from it in making his comparisons. Topically arranged, the book is easy to read and understand. Excellent! ! !

5 out of 5 stars A most pointed differnce between Christianity ans Islam.......2007-02-23

The author compares the teachings and the life examples set by Jesus and Muhammad. There is a stark difference between the path of Peace taught by Jesus and the path of violent conquest to subject all others to Islam as portrayed by all the wars and bloodshed Muhammad led his people through by the example of his life and teachings. The author portrays this difference in contrast very well. This book challenges the concept of Islam as a religion of peace through Muhammad's own words and teachings as well as the life he lived as an example for fellow Muslims to follow. It offers a challenge for those that have eyes, ears, and a mind, which God gave them which they are willing to use.

Dr. Gabriel questions put him direct conflict with the Egyptian Islamic secret police. The day after voicing concerns about Islam, Dr. Gabriel was kidnapped by the secret police. The secret police did not give him food or water for three days; they tortured him by hitting the bottom of his feet; they tried to force a confession and make him give reasons why he had renounced Islam.

Dr. Gabriels began to doubt Islam after analyzing the life of Mohammad; He started to ask questions liek why are followers of Allah slaves 2. why can't followers of Allah pray for forgiveness 3. why are women viewed as evil.

Dr. Gabriel found peace by reading the Beattitudes of Jesus; having suffered severe headaches, the scriptures provided a vision of peace and Dr. Gabriel converted from Islam to Christianty; his father upon hearing that Dr. Gabriel had converted from Islam attempted to shoot him with a gun.

Some interesting facts about Islam: 1. Only Allah can forgive and not even Mohammad claimed the power to forgive. A person will learned if Allah has forgiven him at the time of judgment when Allah allows him into paradise. A fighter for Allah receives forgiveness from Allah. 2. Mohammad taught Jesus Christ was not resurrected and the event was made to seem real to Jesus's followers. 3. Mohammad taught Jesus prayed to Allah and worshipped Allah. 4. Mohammad punished the conquered Mecca and Media by slaughtering the inhabitants. 5. A man may divorce his wife by saying "I divorce you" three times, and can not remarry her until she has been divorced from another man. 6. Warriors for Allah are promised paradise for their sacrifice and forgiveness for their actions. 7. Mohammad is Allah's prophet 8. The followers of Islam are taught to completely submit to the will of Mohammad without question, a sword on the neck. 9. Prayer must be given five times a day and any neglect to complete a prayer voids out the previous prayers for the day. 10. Special washing rituals must be done before prayer. A prayer rug is used when prayer to Mecca is not possible. 11. A man may have four wives. 12. Forgiveness of ones enemy is not required, one may chose to strike back nor not act. 13. Islam divides all people into three groups: slaves, believers, and unbelievers. 14. Mohammad retained 20 percent of soils from warrior and the remaining soils were divided among the warriors by fractional percentage. 15. There are 1.2 billion Islamic members in the world. 16. The Islamic bank is one of the fastest growing financial organization in history. 17. Each Islam member must pay a 2 percent tax to Mohammad. 18. Islam should be the world religion

5 out of 5 stars Exposing Islam.......2007-01-10

This book is excellent and should be read by anyone concerned by the intentions of Islam. The format focuses on the fundamentals of how and why the Muslim and Christian think and act as they do, based on the stark differences in religion and thought.
The authors have impeccable credentials to know both Islam and Christianity intimately. Their scholarship is not only first class but is easily understood.
The book is set out so that future reference to specific topics is easy.
Presentation of the material is factual and unemotional, showing the situation exactly as it is, largely based on thorough familiarity with the writings of both religions.

The Caner Brothers expose the spiritual poverty of Islam and their antagonistic detractors only reinforce their argument. If Islam is superior on its own merit, why are Christians so feared? Perhaps Islam provides no answers to the yearnings of the human soul, i.e. Does God love me? Like all totalitarian systems, Islam thrives through force, represssion, exclusion and fear. Jesus Christ and his message of love appeals to every seeking human heart and it is this truth that Islam cannot abide.

1 out of 5 stars Jesus Loves You, Muhammad Doesn't. End of Argument!.......2006-09-23

When I first learned about their book "unveiling Islam", it surprised me, not because it was promoted as a methodological and balanced attempt to compare the Islam and Christianity from a textual perspective, but because it was done by authors who described themselves as Ex-Muslims. I expected evidence based insider comparison on the superiority of the Christian faith to its Muslim counterpart. It took me twenty pages to learn the book was nothing but another sensational attempt to score a timely hit in church propaganda.

The misquotations and translational mistakes were so ridiculous that they couldn't come from anyone with basic knowledge in Arabic, let alone original Islamic texts. For example, their interpretations of the concepts of love, hate, despise, inspiration, speaking to the dead, and many others.

The authors provided a strong argument for Muhammed's delusions, which they based on a historically discredited text that was mentioned in another widely disputed book, "Satanic Verses". In another argument, they mention a story about a man who defected from Islam, fled Medina back to Mecca, and claimed that he used to write the Quran in words other than those dictated by Muhammad, without him knowing. What the authors failed to report was the rest of this man's story, in which he later admitted that he was lying, converted back to Islam, and actually died while praying in Tunisia in which he served as one of the great military leaders in Muslim history.

Dozens of such obvious mistakes made me suspect they were not innocent misinterpretations. This last book confirmed my suspicions. It's a plain old church pamphlet. Looks like the authors finally gave up their claim of scientific analysis in their approach to compare Islam to Christianity and reverted to the old: you should come to us because Jesus loves you, while Muhammad doesn't. For those who love this kind of talk, fine. For those who want serious comparative religion studies, try somewhere else. My personal favorite in this regards is J. F. Dirks' "The Ibrahamic Faiths" and "The Cross and The Crescent".

C.S. Lewis once noted that nowhere do the Gospels say, "Jesus laughed." He's probably laughing now, if he's got access to Bart Ehrman's Jesus: Apocalyptic Prophet of the New Millennium. The title doesn't even hint at the yuks that Ehrman's prose delivers, but from its very first page, Jesus will tickle your funny bone and stimulate your brain. "At last count," Ehrman begins, "there were something like 8 zillion books written about Jesus .... It's not there aren't enough books about Jesus out there. It's that there aren't enough of the right kind of book. Very, very few, in fact. I'd say about one and a half."

The right kind of book, according to Ehrman, is one that portrays Jesus roughly as Albert Schweitzer did, as a first-century Jewish apocalypticist: "This is a shorthand way of saying that Jesus fully expected that the history of the world as we know it (well, as he knew it) was going to come to a screeching halt, that God was soon going to intervene in the affairs of this world, overthrow the forces of evil in a cosmic act of judgment, destroy huge masses of humanity, and abolish existing human political and religious institutions. All this would be a prelude to the arrival of a new order on earth, the Kingdom of God." Ehrman's is a historical-Jesus book, a very smart, humble, and humorous popular summary of Christian and secular evidence of Jesus' life, work, and legacy. He believes that apocalypticism is the true core of Jesus' message, and that comfortable middle-class complacency among scholars, clergy, and laypeople has forged a counterfeit, domesticated, "ethical" Jesus to cover up their befuddlement about his misprediction of the apocalypse. The book will frustrate many readers because it offers no real guidance regarding what one should do with Jesus' apocalypticism. Its project--to prove that Jesus was wrong about the apocalypse--may even appear destructive to some. Yet the argument is convincing enough to induce among careful readers a constructive experience of confusion. Jesus makes readers ask the very question it appears to ignore, in a newly humble way: how, then, should we live? A serious matter, but considering humanity's endless string of wrong answers and infinite capacity for self-delusion, worthy of some good belly laughs, as well. --Michael Joseph Gross

Book Description

In this highly accessible discussion, Bart Ehrman examines the most recent textual and archaeological sources for the life of Jesus, along with the history of first-century Palestine, drawing a fascinating portrait of the man and his teachings. Ehrman shows us what historians have long known about the Gospels and the man who stands behind them. Through a careful evaluation of the New Testament (and other surviving sources, including the more recently discovered Gospels of Thomas and Peter), Ehrman proposes that Jesus can be best understood as an apocalyptic prophet--a man convinced that the world would end dramatically within the lifetime of his apostles and that a new kingdom would be created on earth. According to Ehrman, Jesus' belief in a coming apocalypse and his expectation of an utter reversal in the world's social organization not only underscores the radicalism of his teachings but also sheds light on both the appeal of his message to society's outcasts and the threat he posed to Jerusalem's established leadership.

3 out of 5 stars Ehrman shows some of his strengths but also a key weakness.......2007-06-16

I first learned of Ehrman's views about the apocalyptic Jesus while reading his recent The Lost Gospel of Judas Iscariot: A New Look at Betrayer and Betrayed. Even in that book, his interest in Gnostic Christianity seems seconary and he appears to be using the opportunity with that book to present again his arguments for an apocalyptic Jesus. So I decided to read this book for a more complete presentation of that viewpoint.

Ehrman generally explains material so well and his knowledge of history and the Bible seems so complete that, at first glance, it would seem foolish to doubt him. His case seems compelling. Given that the four New Testament gospels provide our first known accounts of Jesus and using well-established scholarly criteria for evaluating scriptural statements, Ehrman provides a convincing case that Jesus was an apocalyptic Jew.

But is he too quick to accept the reliablity of the New Testament gospels in revealing the historical Jesus? In the The Origin of Satan, Elaine Pagels takes into account the historical conditions of each of the gospel writers and wonders to what extent those texts were concerned more with motivating the Christians of those times and not with a historical account of a Jesus none of those gospel writers is likely to have known first hand. She writes that the four gospels were "chosen not necessarily because they were the earliest or most accurate accounts of Jesus' life and teaching but precisely because they could form the basis of church communities".

Ehrman devotes only several pages of the main text to the views of Crossam (and hence the Jesus Seminar) that Jesus was not an apocalyptic Jew. He simply dismisses Crossan on the issue of the dating of some texts. He doesn't mention other arguments from the Jesus Seminar members supporting their view of Jesus ( The Apocalyptic Jesus: A Debate
appeared in 2001 and it seems unlikely these conflicting issues would have been unknown to Ehrman).

Having relied on the four gospels as the best evidence to reveal the historical Jesus, Ehrman then relies heavily on criteria used often by Biblical scholars which he himself admits are only probabilistic: independent attestation, dissimilarity and contextual credibility. Using these, he shows how changes since Mark, generally presumed to be the earliest gospel, suggest that the depiction of Jesus as an apocalyptic Jew became muted over time and that any depiction of Jesus as an apocalyptic Jew didn't seem to support subsequent Christian teachings about Jesus. That leads Ehrman to conclude that Jesus must have been an apocalyptic Jew, which helps him to make sense of some of Jesus's important but otherwise obscure statements in the Gospels. Ehrman does acknowledge important ethical teachings by Jesus but makes them seem dependent on the expectation of an imminent direct action of his god and not by the people.

I'm just a lay person but I grow suspicious when it seems that a scholar has avoided squarely addressing the views of other leading scholars, especially in an area for which any scholar must rely so heavily on speculation. What if the dating of the texts is wrong or if other texts were lost? What if the probabilistic criteria Ehrman relies so heavily on are wrong in some of these particular cases he applies them to? What about the motives of the Gospel writers and their distance from Jesus? Is it feasible, as Ehrman suggests, that Jesus viewed himself as having a special relationship with a god who would establish a kingdom on earth that would overturn Roman rule and place Jesus, with his 12 disciples, in charge? It may be and that may explain why Christianity soon afterward retreated from teaching a apocalyptic Jesus who seemed entirely wrong in his expectations, but the views of the Jesus Seminar and Pagels seem worth addressing. Ehrman appeals to a "wide range of scholars who have devoted their lives to studying the ancient sources for the historical Jesus [who have] concluded that he proclaimed the imminent end of history as we know it] without acknowledging almost at all those who didn't so conclude or who may have suspected Jesus was calling for popular action rather than an direct intervention by his god.

That Ehrman remains wedded to this view and wanting to present it even ostensibly in a book about "The Gospel of Judas" (i.e. The Lost Gospel of Judas Iscariot: A New Look at Betrayer and Betrayed) and that he avoided to such an extent in this book discussing the views of the Jesus Seminar that Jesus was not an apocalyptic Jew calls into question for me Ehrman's commitment to scholarship. Even in a book such as this for a lay audience, and perhaps especially so given that us lay readers may find it difficult to understand the conflicting conclusions of scholars, it seems irresponsible to dismiss alternative views in a few pages. I may have to read The Apocalyptic Jesus: A Debate to get further input on this issue and, even if Ehrman is right, the manner in which he has presented his case will make me quite suspicious of his work in the future.

4 out of 5 stars A Solid, Informative Work For Lay Readers.......2007-01-20

Bart Ehrman tells his reader from the very start that this is not a work aimed at academics so much as a work for interested folks who don't have an extensive background in biblical scholarship. Indeed, the thesis he offers in the book, is, he admits, not a new one among biblical researchers and historians. The value of this book lies in its accessibility to readers outside of Ehrman's field, and he has done an excellent job of not only explaining his main contentions but also of explaining HOW he has reached them. Ehrman provides a wealth of contextual information about 1st century Palestine, the gospels, and even examples of non-canonical texts as he attempts to push aside centuries of theology and catch a glimpse of the historical Jesus. The questions he asks are important ones: What did Jesus actually say and teach? How was he received during his ministry? Did he preach his own divinity or was that the work of his followers?

Some reviewers have noted that "other conclusions" can be reached with regard to the life and teachings of Jesus, and that is very true. Ehrman does not claim to have the ultimate answers, but he does present a tight argument for his thesis. Even if you find yourself in disagreement with Ehrman's conclusions, this book is still worth reading for the carefully set forth (if very much entry-level) historical and contextual information it provides.

5 out of 5 stars Jesus, Apocalyptic Prophet of the New Millenium.......2007-01-05

And eye opener for anyone who thinks they know the New Testament. Thought provoking.

5 out of 5 stars an eye opener for me!.......2006-11-03

A lot of questions regarding the Gospels that had baffled me all my life, were answered in this book to me. Clearly, Sunday schools never teach this. I felt profoundly sorry for Jesus the man, who maybe thought that by confronting the Jewish authority would precipitate the coming of the Kingdom.
I recommend this book for people that are curious about Jesus historical context, that have questions about the accuracy of the Gospels and want to make their own opinion of who the man was, based on facts, not on myths. The read is easy and not devoid of humor.

5 out of 5 stars Facinating.......2006-09-12

This is my third Ehrman book and it was another tour de force. He reviews the various sources of information we have about Jesus and sifts, triangulates and analyzes the information to determine what is probably historicaly true, what is probably not true and what we just don't know. I found it absolutely fascinating and it reminded me of "Digging Dinosaurs" by James Horner, another Sherlock Holmes display of deduction and reasoning.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Take Along Book for Holy Land Tour.......2007-09-26

This is a MUST HAVE with you when you tour the Holy Land..either by yourself or with a group. Keep the book with you as you travel the Holy Land. In it the author tells you a short historical description and more importantly gives you Bible verses where it is mentioned in the Bible so that you can really get into the meaning and feelings of the Holy Land. The book is set up in alphabetical order by the name of the locations... very easy to follow and locate your area. I highly recommend this book as a carry along book on your trip to the Holy Land. It will add more meaning and insight into the experience.

3 out of 5 stars Not helpful for guided tours.......2007-02-04

I recently returned from a trip to Israel and I had purchased this book before the trip as a guide. I never opened the book even once 1) because we had an excellent tour guide, and 2) because it includes way more places than what is necessary. The information in the book is quality but if you are going with a tour I wouldn't bother with it. If you are exploring on your own I would recommend it. I would like to see maps in this book to show where these locations are and perhaps organized by region rather than just alphabetically. If you want a great resource to take with you purchase the "DK Eyewitness Guide of Jerusalem and the Holy Land." I thoroughty enjoyed it.

5 out of 5 stars A must have for pilgrim travel to Israel.......2005-08-16

This is a wonderful little book that contains scriptural references for virtually all of the traditional Christian sites in Israel. It is invaluable to take along when viewing the various religious sites so that their biblical mention can be easily found and read. When I lead tours to the Holy Land, this book is one of three that I advise visitors to consider taking with them (the others are, "Holy Land" by Jerome Murphy-O'Connor, and "The Millennium Guide for Pilgrims to the Holy Land", by James H. Charlesworth.

4 out of 5 stars AN OUTSTANDING WORK.......2000-06-19

As a traveller to the land of Israel twelve times I have been privileged to see first rate the expertise that went into the pages of this book and I have had many positve comments from those I have shared the book with. A preacher's son describes the part on the "Ark of The Covenant" as an exceptional writing done by an expert in her field. The book is a must for anyone going to the Holyland.

4 out of 5 stars Great Guide.......2000-01-18

This is a handy little guide book that could travel with you as you visit the sites mentioned. It lists the history of each place and other interesting facts. It has several useful lists of information at the back of the book. Mrs. Crown-Tamir knows her stuff and has put together a useful, inexpensive guide. I found myself wishing for a large foldout map to see all the places named, however that would probably make the book too expensive.

Book Description

Offering a unique introduction to the historical person Jesus of Nazareth, respected New Testament scholar William Herzog traces the history of discussion and scholarship of the historical Jesus, including that of the recent and very public Jesus Seminar. He does so, however, with an eye toward the theological. No other introduction is tied so closely to the biblical texts. He asks, "What difference does the historical Jesus make in our understanding of the gospels?" and, correspondingly, "What difference should this Jesus make in our lives today?" By exploring in depth Jesus' words—the parables—and Jesus' deeds—miracles, Herzog presents a holistic picture of Jesus that will explain how Jesus' followers would have understood his miracles and his role as prophet. With its accessibility and clear connections to what the gospels are saying, Prophet and Teacher will appeal to general readers with little theological background and be a popular primary text in undergraduate and seminary classes.

5 out of 5 stars A page turner.......2007-09-25

The level of detail was a bit tedious at first but around page 100 or so the book turned into a real page turner. I finished the four hundred or so pages in four days. It was one of those cases where you really want some kind of justice for the victims but you believe they will never get it. Some of the negative reviews have pointed to the use of second hand sources when there were first hand accounts available. When everyone old enough to testify has been murdered and the murderers are the only ones left to tell their side of the story that will sometimes be the case. The first hand accounts may not be entirely believable since those are being told by the murders themselves. If a few of the ten or twelve year old children had been left alive then there could be some more accurate accounts of the incident. It is ironic that the many of the people who complain the most about the inaccuracies in this book are the descendents of the persons most responsible for those inaccuracies.

1 out of 5 stars Exhaustive Research...Poor Conclusions.......2007-09-04

Reading the book from the perspective of scholarship makes one realize that Bagley has done some exhaustive background work on the subject. Which makes it all the more stunning that he (with the time it must have taken to compile the data) has twisted facts, timelines and relied on heresay and rumor to come to some of his conclusions when credible primary evidence was there for the taking. Indeed, many of his most heinous conclusions about the background events at Mountain Meadows are only able to be drawn by misdirecting event sequences and distances involved. Only those that have seriously engaged this topic will be able to recognize this.

His hope is that readers will be intimidated by the sheer number of references to call into question his, or their, credibility. Unfortunately, quantity is not the same as quality and many of his sources are second hand and less credible, even when primary sources were available to him.

What does this say about his motives given the volume of sources he cites? It says that he has a story to tell and he'll do it, no matter what the facts actually say. In the end, he fit the data to his conclusions, not the other way around. Very disappointing.

1 out of 5 stars Propaganda?.......2007-08-31

Although I have not read the book, it is disturbing to me that people are associating fundamentalist Mormons with the actual Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Fundamentalist Mormons are what you would consider radical and extremists. Typically they are sects of members (or descendants of) those who broke away from the official LDS church when polygamy was denounced in 1880. They wanted to continue their polygamist life styles and in doing so, were excommunicated from the church. Thus they formed their own "fundamentalist" Mormon sects. Warren Jeffs is part of these groups.

Having said that, yes Mountain Meadows did occur. Yes, there were Mormon settlers involved. I don't think any member of the LDS church is disputing that. What we are disputing is the way in which the Mormon pioneers are being depicted. They are being described (as in some reviews) as "fundamentalist", "extremist" and "radical". No one is saying that it was not a terrible thing they did. It most definitely was! Unexcuseable, abominable and savage. But I think the thing you have to ask yourself is what was their state of mind at the time? What was in their hearts? Do you know about the savage slaying of the Prophet Joseph Smith? Do you know about the savage killings of Mormons at Hawns Mill? Do you know about the extermination order of all Mormons issued by Governor Boggs of Illinois (the only of its kind EVER to have been issued in the US). Which is why they left Navou, Illinois- watching behind them as their temple and homes were being burnt to the ground. They were in search of a life in the west, free of persecution and death. These are the things one needs to consider before judging those Mormons whom chose to participate in Mountain Meadows. I do not believe it was done out of revenge. I believe it was done out of a sense of self preservation. They were no doubt paranoid about being driven from their homes (AGAIN) and were trying to prevent history from repeating itself. Even though the Fancher party posed no threat to them, all of these things from their past affected the Mormon settlers state of mind. Maybe it was even temporary insanity. We can't really say because we weren't there. But the facts are that most of these Mormon's led good, decent lives before and after Mountain Meadows. [...].

It will give you just the facts, including the series of events which lead up to Mountain Meadows. It is also important that one remembers that these were the acts of a handful (relatively speaking) of Mormons and not the entire church. Those were choices they made freely. It is unfair to lay blame on an entire religion/church for the choices that they made. It was not sanctioned nor was it ordered by Brigham Young. That was proven by the dispatch he sent to Cedar City leaders telling them to let the emigrants pass unharmed. Unfortunately it came a day too late.

As a Mormon, when I first learned of this tragedy not long after my conversion, I wanted to know more about it. I read everything I could (that was not anti-Mormon propaganda) about the event. I would encourage you to do the same. I have now developed a spirit of forgiveness and understanding. Who am I to judge another when I walk imperfectly?

5 out of 5 stars Truth will come forth.......2007-03-14

Blood of the Prophets is an excellent example of the Mormon fraud. Mormonism is no more a Christian denomination than is radical Islam. Read this book to learn the truth about the dictator Brigham Young and the basic philosphy of the Mormon Church that survives today. The only thing that has changed is that the current Mormon leaders are probably not ordering hits on innocent people or descenting members of the Mormon Church. The corruption and anti-Christ character of this global monstrosity goes unchanged. I was an ultra-active Mormon for over 46 years. I was a High Priest and Mormon temple worker in this fraudulent religion before I began to study outside the box of "approved Mormon dribble", where I readily discovered the truth. If you want to learn the truth about this era of Mormon history read this book.

5 out of 5 stars The final word on Mountain Meadows.......2007-01-04

Anyone who has read the classic account by Juanita Brooks of the Mountain Meadow massacre will want to read this book. It includes information that was not available to Mrs. Brooks, and it also makes you aware of how brave she was.

5 out of 5 stars Essential reading on Joseph's Discourses.......2007-07-05

This book, which basically outlines and details some of the Prophet Joseph Smith's major teachings, is a must have for any serious student of LDS history and the teachings of Joseph Smith.

This book is outlined in four sections, correlating with the various time periods of Church history (i.e. New York, Kirtland, Missouri, Nauvoo). This is one factor of this volume that is beneficial, as you can see how Joseph's teachings and his own personality advanced and developed over time. This book was also good in that it devoted a section to Joseph's epic King Folett Discourse that is presented in a readable and lucid format.

And with text and commentary from Joseph Fielding Smith, you get footnotes to further references and commentary on some select passages.

So, really, this book is a must have for any student of Joseph Smith's teachings and LDS history.

5 out of 5 stars Hail too the Man, who commune with Jehovah.......2005-11-04

What was the signficance of the Law of Moses? The Lord appeared in a pillar of fire, at the dedication of the first temple, built by Solomon. David wanted to build the temple, but the Lord said of him, "He was a man of war and had too much blood on his hands". The children of Israel could hear Jehovah's voice during the dedicatory prayer, however, the Lord's face was hid from them, as he came in a pillar of fire.

We also see, in Mose 5, after the fall, Adam heard the voice of the Lord from the Garden, but was forbidden to see his face. The fall meant Adam could no longer walk and be in the presence of God.

However, as Adam was obedient and kept the commandments of God, he gained a full understanding of the saving power of the atonement and towards the end of Adam's life, the Lord appear to him and Adam once again spoke face to face with God. Adam gained an understanding of the atonement by the Holy Spirit and Adam being filled with the spirit, prophecied great things for his posterity and all the great patriarchs heard his prophecies and called him Michael.

The Law of Moses contained the day of atonement, where the sins of the House of Israel were forgiven; The Law of Mose contained the Law of Sacrifice, a foreshadowing of the sacrifice of the Only Begotten; The Law of Mose contained the day of Thanksgiving, where man reconciled himself to God and offerred up thanksgiving to his God. Others have spoke face to face with God: Mose, Enoch, Adam, Noah, Abraham, Issaac, Jacob, and Joseph Smith.

What happened? Jesus taught, he came not destroy the prophets but too fullifill the law of Shiloh (Jehovah and the Father). Jesus was the Law, Mose was a prototype, and Jesus was name by which salvation comes to man. Jesus was both the sacrifice and the great high priest, who offerred the sacrifice. Joseph Smith was the prophet responsible, for restoring the priesthood ordinances that restored the Laws of God back on the earth. Joseph Smith through direct instruction and revelation from God restored the Law of Christ on the earth. This instruction came directly from the Lord and these ordinances and promises provided binding power transcending mortality and established eternal promises of increase, joy, and power. Joseph Smith was the prophet, who the Lord through his servant provided priesthood keys too restore the priesthood ordinances (D&C110). These priesthood keys provided saving power and were integrally connected to the Atonement of Jesus (D&C109). Through obedience and diligence to God's commandments man could overcome his mortal test and gain exaltation.

Joseph Smith taught us the more about the nature of God because of his direct interaction with the Lord. Joseph Smith was the mouth piece of the Lord similar too Mose. In fact, the Book of Mormon prophet Nephi, prophesied of a great leader like unto Mose, who would liberate the people, in our day, from spiritual bondage. This great leader would be Joseph Smith. Joseph Smith taught the members - how to prepare themselves to be worthy and ready to return back into the presence of God. Joseph Smith attacked self aggrandizement, pride, foolishness, selfishiness, and the techniques and tactics of the devil. Joseph Smith taught how the Law of Christ would help establish a Zion people and the role the priesthood would play in presiding over the Kingdom of God. The prophet Joseph Smith talked comfortable about the meaning of the prophecies of John the Revelator opening up additional truth concerning the great signs of the time. Men of profound intellect found the prophet Joseph Smith easy to talk with, understanding, and capable of helping them understand the mysteries of God. Many relied deeply on the prophet Joseph Smith too teach them and how too walk correctly before God. The prophet Joseph Smith demonstrated Christ like compassion healing numerous individuals through the priesthood, in the name of the Lord. Even after many generations, the descendants would rejoice in the mercy the prophet Joseph Smith offer through the power of Jesus Christ. Other descendants would bear testimony that the mantle of the prophet fell on the prophet Bringham Young and declare him a prophet of God. The prophet Joseph Smith was not a bitter man, instead, he was a robust energtic man with a incredible whit, piercing eye, and a warm smile. The prophet Joseph Smith could point out a person weakiness and follies and that individual would rejoice in the accessment. The prophet Joseph Smith brought about him some of the most loyal friends, willing to die for him, preserve him when and where possible, and perform great errants for the prophet. The prophet Joseph Smith inspired greatness, great unending devotion to do the Lord's work, and brought forth a great banner for the world to see. The prophet Joseph Smith name would be great both spoken righteous and evil in context, but not ignored. The Prophet Joseph Smith set forth the design for the great city of Zion and provided the vision of this great work. The lands of Zion were stolen from the saints. These lands need too be returned too their rightful owners. It will be in these lands that the great city of Zion will be built.

Heavan Father is Justice and Justice will demand payment for the martyer of the prophet Joseph Smith. When John Taylor sang "Poor Way Faring man of Grief", this was a sacred moment, a type similiar, too the Mount of Transfiguration, where, Mose and Elijah provide strength and comfort to Jesus, prior too starting the painful process of the atonement. Here Joseph received strength from his brethren. The life and teaching of Joseph Smith will forever change your life.

5 out of 5 stars Standard Work on Joseph Smith........2002-02-14

This book is the best treasure house of Joseph Smith's teachings. In fact, it is an unofficial source of theology of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It relies heavily on the rather bulky "History of the Church," but also has some documents that are not included in the official history. It is well organized, and these newer editions have the index compiled by Dr. Robert Matthews.

5 out of 5 stars Treasurehouse of Joseph Smith's Teachings!.......1998-08-09

"Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith" is the most important book any Latter-day Saint can own, outside of the Scriptures. His early teachings from Kirtland to the last days at Nauvoo are chronologically recorded and easily accessed. Included the famous "King Folette Discoures," and June 16, 1844 sermon. This is Joseph Fielding Smith's most imporatnt work ever.
