Book Description
Success hasn't spoiled screenwriter Lou Calabrese -- it's just given her a taste for luxury. And it's put her in some bizarre situations -- like in a helicopter en route to the wilds of Alaska, sharing too-close quarters with the last man she wants to be with: Jack Townsend! Once a sexy nobody whom Lou helped make a somebody, Jack's just been dumped by a high-profile Hollywood airhead -- who's eloped with Lou's longtime love! So what else could go wrong?
Well...
Their pilot could try to shoot the most adored man in America. They could crash land in the icy, mountainous middle of nowhere. And at the worst possible moment, when survival should be their only consideration, Jack could start wondering if maybe he wasn't a wee bit too hasty for not giving this sexy screenwriter a second look -- while Lou could start noticing how superstar Jack is kind of hot after all ...

If you love Susan E. Phillips- you will love this book. .......2007-08-08
You may know of her from her Princess Diaries series and be surprised to know that she also writes adult fiction and does so extremely well. If you're a fan of Jennifer Crusie or Mary Janice Davidson, this smart, sassy tale will definitely bring a smile to your face. Talk about ungrateful!!! After she wrote a movie for her actor boyfriend and made him into one of the biggest stars around, the rat has just run off with his co-star from said movie (maybe writing it wasn't such a good idea after all). To make matters worse the eloping boyfriend stealing starlet just happens to be the girlfriend of her arch nemesis, film star Jack Townsend. Then to throw the whole situation into the realms of farce she ends up crash landing in the icy wilds of Alaska with only Jack for company (hmm maybe someone's put a hex on her). After bickering and sniping their way through the snow, suddenly they're starting to see each other through a glaze of lust, though hopefully this insanity will wear off once they're back in civilization, which will never happen if the bunch of psychos chasing them down has their way. Craziness and high jinks abound in this fun, action packed romp, and you'll love the sparks flying between Jack and Lou.
great story and character.......2007-06-04
i love all meg cabot's books and this one will not disappointing at all. I really was hooked from the first page to the last. She has a captivating way to draw in the readers and making it involves with the story and characters. i love this book.
Did not finish the book.......2007-04-14
I can only comment on the first 150 pages of the book because I just could not bring myself to finish it. The story started slow at the beginning, and I thought about quitting at page 40. I decided to continue because I found some of the situations humorous. I did become more interested, but then got bored with the story again. I found it to be far fetched as some of the other reviewers had said. While like I said some of the parts were humourous, I was not draw to the characters. I especially found Lou hard to like.
This was my first Meg Cabot book, but I will definitely give some of her other books a try because I have seen good reviews on them.
She Went all the Way.......2007-03-13
In my opinion, this book started out really slow. In fact, I put this book aside after reading around forty pages and then picked it up again a few weeks later, determined to finish.
When I did pick it up again, though, I was quickly intrigued and I finished it in less than a day. Still, in my opinion it was only worthy of four stars. It seemed kind of far-fetched, and even though that is part of what I respect about Meg Cabot I thought that it could have been better.
Condition of the book.......2007-03-09
I thought the description online was very different from what it actually looked like. It was in a little worse condition than stated, but it's still readable!:)

Bubbles all the Way -- til the end!.......2007-09-26
I enjoyed the entire Bubbles series until the very end. I thought it unfair to the character of Bubbles. Was hoping she would at least end up with True love after Dan aka Chip Ritter.
I said to myself "What?" .......2007-08-16
This has been an enjoyable series, especially for a resident of the Lehigh Valley, where it is set. Of late I had felt that the situations were becoming a little strained, and wanted the situation with Bubbles and Stiletto to stabilize. Also, Jane and the mother were becoming a little one dimensional. This installment, however, was rolling along merrily enough until the end, at which point I was rather shocked. It reminded me of the series finale to "Newhart."
Word of Warning.......2007-06-01
Word of Warning: If you read this book, skip the last chapter. Even if there are a few pieces of the puzzle missing, you'll still feel good about having had a good read. Until that point, the book might well have been the best in the series. In the last chapter, the author and her editors surely have taken leave of their senses. I cannot figure out whether this is their wacky way of concluding the series and frankly insulting their readers, or if this is some contrived "dream". In the end, it may not matter, as I may be reluctant to even pick up another Strohmeyer book after this, and I had been a loyal follower... In any event, reading the last chapter is like pouring a vat of castor oil on an otherwise wonderful banana split. Ny recommendation is to remember the Bubbles series for the fun it was until now, save your money, and move on to something else.
Best of the Series.......2007-05-31
Wow, everyone's upset about the ending - but I guess I don't get what the big problem is. I think it's hilarious!
I laughed and laughed at this book. I thought Ms Strohmeyer had tons of great quick-witted one liners.
I thought the mystery was great, but yeah, I was a little lost at who actually did the killing. Otherwise I would have given it 5 stars.
In the past, I've spaced off the mystery part because (now this may make me sound unintelligent) they can be confusing and uninteresting. But I stuck with this one.
Only other gripe was Jane - the whole book she wants mom and dad to get back together then alluva sudden when Bubbles says they're not getting married, Jane is happy. Almost like that storyline had run its course, not even worth finishing out.
All in all, I thought it was the best.
Very disappointed.......2007-05-12
I'm a big fan of Sarah Strohmeyer. I started reading the Bubbles books because Bubbles is a journalist, Sarah was one and I am also one. This latest Bubbles book seemed very off to me, from the beginning, and unlike any of the previous ones. In that sense, maybe the ending of this book DID fit with the rest of it. But like I said before, this book didn't fit with the rest of the series. I read on Sarah's blog where she said she wrote five books in the last two years, and maybe she's just worn out. But I think she did a disservice to the fans of this series by "jumping the shark" like this. It could be that she just wants to stick to her new series of books that are named after fairy tales, and wanted to dump the Bubbles series, but I think Bubbles is the reason why she's getting the chance to write the other books such as "The Secret Lives of Fortunate Wives" which I couldn't even get through before it lost my interest by Chapter 2. So if it was her intention to dump the Bubbles series, I think she succeeded, because a lot of readers won't be coming back. Unfortunately, I doubt they'll give any of her other books a chance, either.

A Great Story.......2006-06-12
All the Way Home is a touching story, teaching us how the world events of WWII and the Civil Rights Movement touched everyday lives. The author weaves the story with questions of faith--real ones that real people struggle with--without being preachy in the least.
I enjoyed the book so much that I read it very quickly, but it's also worthy of a longer more thoughtful reading. Quality writing from an award winning author. Highly recommended.
eye opener.......2006-04-20
I knew only a little bit about the Japaneese internment camps during the bombing of Pearl Harbor. I had learned a little from reading novels by Gail Tsyukiyama. I learned a lot more after reading this one by the very talented Ann Tatlock. I had no idea the degree of predujice the Japaneese went through in America. I also had no idea how predjudiced Mississippi was in the 60's. This book really is an eye opener about how stupid racism is. We are all human and make terrible mistakes at times. We are all capable of being consumed by hate and violence. This book clearly shows that we all need to forgive since none of us is near perfect. I wish I could get a couple prejudiced friends of mine to read this book, but none of them read much(if they did they might learn more!), and hate long books. That is actually the reason I didn't give this book 5 stars. It was a bit too long, with too much repeating. It has taken me 6 weeks to finish it. I think the book would be more popular if the author had decided to cut out about 1/4 of the pages. I like to be able to finish a book within 3 weeks tops.
I absolutely adored Tatlock's "A Room of my Own", so I will probably check out another novel of hers soon. She makes history fun, real, and interesting. I agree with the reviewer who said this should be on high school reading lists.
Moving Historical Novel.......2004-06-07
This is such a great story! I had just finished "Farewell to Manzanar" when I read this book and learned more about the treatment of Japanese Americans during the war through the eyes of a young girl. The story did not get bogged down in war and politics though. The most intriguing aspect was the desire of the caucasian girl to be part of the Japanese family based on internal emotions and the challenge of the Japanese family to be accepted as Americans based on their external features. If only man were able to look at the heart the way God does! This is an inspirational story of belonging and the adverse treatment of "enemy" culture during the war.
Put this on your reading list!.......2004-06-02
What a wonderfully well written story. I have never read this author before and was pleasantly surprised. There were so many issues for discussion and so much history in the story that I am pushing for this to be on the required reading list at the high school where I work.
A thought-provoking novel.......2004-05-01
I picked up this novel by Ann Tatlock after I saw that it won a Christy Award. Now I understand why. The writing was deep and thoughtful, the plot was extensive, following two young girls on a journey to overcome racism over a period of thirty years. If you like books that you can read slowly, pondering the vivid descriptions and feeling a part of the characters' lives, you'll enjoy this book.

For Rosemary Daniell, writing is an obsession, a turn-on, a healing process, and a vision quest. A highly sexed, somewhat New Age-y Southerner with what she would call a "healthy arrogance," Daniell hadn't heard of T. S. Eliot until she was 23 years old. In The Woman Who Spilled Words All over Herself, we learn about Daniell's evolution as a writer, her experiences teaching writing in schools and prisons, her practical and inspirational advice for writers, and the writing workshops for women (and a few men) that she has been running out of her home for more than 15 years. These writing groups are what families should be: communities that value honesty, support, stimulation, and fattening foods. Most useful here, in addition to learning the indispensability of a good writing support group, are the writing exercises, or "exorcises," at the back of the book. There's also a collection of rich Southern recipes just right for beckoning the muse.
Book Description
For more than fifteen years, Rosemary Daniell has led Zona Rosa, a creative writing workshop for people of all ages and all walks of life. In this dual memoir and writing guide, she describes the difficulties and the rewards of the writing life while also providing inspiration and helpful tips for writers in all stages of their careers."
Customer Reviews:
Daniell's on a Mission! .......2006-07-14
Rosemary Daniell is on a mission, and part of her mission is to make sure that women in particular, but men as well fight and slay their "demons/issues" and get on with the life they were meant to have. Her dedication has led her to a 24-year love affair with Zona Rosa and to the brave souls who seek to break past their pasts, their fears, their excuses and live a full and authentic life. This book may claim to be "about" writing, but it's a lot more than a how-to book. The exorcises alone are worth the price. And by all means, if you can get to a Zona Rosa meeting--go! You're in for a treat.
This could have saved me years of stumbling in the dark.......2002-08-17
I was a little skeptical about a new-age-y writing book--another writer urging us wannabes to spill words. But Rosemary Daniell won me over. First of all, she's really practicing what she preaches--and not for the money. The first chapter, from which the title was taken, describes her experiences teaching writing in schools and prisons. It's the intersection of her greatest love and the greatest need--and both admirable and daring. I've had the pleasure of using her discussion starters with children ages 5-8 and it works!
In her chapter on self-sabotage I recognized people I know as well as myself. I will pull this chapter out on occasion to remind myself what NOT to do.
I was most taken, though, with the "Further Notes" chapter. In it she described things I've had to learn the hard way myself. (She calls it demystification--thank you, Rosemary, I wish I'd met you years ago.) For example, how to paraphrase everything first. I'm halfway finished with an MFA and have studied writing with many famous writers. NO ONE has ever mentioned this before. But it works.
There are also many provocative female ideas embedded in this book, like the use of irony in good women's fiction. I'd like to sit in on that discussion. This is a book I will buy and keep and read when I need to hear the voice of someone experienced and wise.
Live through the Power of Words.......2002-05-24
Rosemary Daniell is a woman who has listened intently and found her passion and her voice. She shares both in this book so that others may know what the experience is like.
My favorite part is where she is working with students and the class is working on the poem "Eggs" and students ponder what is it really like to sit in a bathtub of eggs. The words are so strong they don't just invite visualization, they demand it.
Having sat in on a Zona Rosa meeting, I can say that working with Rosemary Daniell is just as electrifying.
Delightful -- especially for the memoirs.......1999-08-17
This book is more memoir than "beginner writer" exercise book (though there are some exercises), but this is precisely why I liked it. And, of course, the "read-like-a-novel" style of writing sets it apart from ordinary "how to write" books.
Like another reviewer, I wish Rosemary and her Zona Rosa group were in my town!! Failing that, though, this book is a keeper!
A writer's feast that inspires........1998-10-22
Daniell's book is like a banquet; she has cooked up something for everyone, beginning writers, those in the middle and old hands. This is a book I buy frequently now and give away to people I like, both writers and nonwriters. As a desert, there are a whole lot of things you can do with young people to stimulate the creative process in The Woman Who Spilled Words All Over Herself. Super good book.

Moving and Strong.......2000-05-20
The title story is just devastatingly beautiful. I've read and heard many stories about coming to the United States from Cuba, but this one so vividly conveys the emotions of discovery and loss that a part of being an exile, I wept. I teach a course on US Latino Literature, and I will now ask my students to read this. And anyone else I can convince.
A great mix of fun stories.......2000-03-16
I loved this work from Obejas. It was such a fast read that I read it again. If you look beyond the surface, you see a world that many will relate to in their own lives...maybe not in whole, but at least partially.
important topics, poor writing.......1999-04-29
The important topics that Abejas broaches can not override the overall flawed structure, lazy sentences, and underdeveloped characters. Lousy writing.
Something for Everyone.......1998-03-08
This is a marvelous collection of stories joined together by a common thread. That thread is the feeling that life is happening TO us rather than life being what WE make of it. The characters, all trying their best to make it with the life they've been given, seem to rely heavily on those around them to make the pieces fit. I would be hard pressed to select my favorite among the tales that Obejas writes in this book. She did an excellent job of touching on what it means to be an immigrant, and what it means to look for a place to belong. This book runs the gamut; featuring both male and female characters, those obsessed with love or love lost, to those wondering if they were responsible for the death of one they loved. Writing with a realistic style, Obejas allows the reader to connect with the characters, understand their situations and in some cases even identify with how they are handling their current situation. If you're looking for a quick read that isn't the usual lesbian fiction, seek out this book. It's a tough one to find!

Book Description
At once an affectionate tribute and a work of social history, Going All the Way captures the experiences of young women coming of age in modern day America. What emerges in this work is an all but unprecedented study of the intimate lives of teenage girls that goes far in explaining teen motivation and behaviour, "challenging the simplistic stereotypes and savage preconceptions that have kept us dangerously ignorant"--Alix Kates Schulman
Customer Reviews:
"Some of the feelings they had were in music but they needed more than that.".......2006-11-20
This book is the author's complex discussion after interviewing over 400 young women on the topics of sex, romance, and pregnancy. To get the girls to agree to share their intimate coming of age narratives, she made sure each woman knew they "could decide whether or not to let me include what she had said in the study and she could call me later and change her mind" - a beautifully feminine approach to respecting their confidences.
"I asked each narrator to think about whether she wanted to release what she'd said. One teenager changed her mind so often about what she would release that I eliminated her interview to stay on the safe side. Everyone else said yes, many observing they'd been moved to participate by the promise that I was going to pass their stories on for them. Even the most antifeminist felt obligated to give other girls the advantage of their experiences. They wished they had had that advantage themselves. Neither the literature of the past nor the contemporary novels and reports had given them a sense of what was going to happen to them, many said - how they would feel, what they would want, what would worry them, what the odds for or against their dreams coming true were - and they didn't think that was right." The next sentence in the book is the quote I used above to title this review.
"While almost all the teenage girls who narrated this book probably once dreamed of a true first love that would last forever (Walt Disney productions alone ensure the survival of this idea), by the time I met them they had very different views of what love is and what it means."
It's been said, "You are judged by the company you keep." Morgan Freeman has a new movie, titled with a twist on that cliche, "You are who you meet." Ms. Thompson might synthesize those two concepts. Her book might provide persuasive support, through her interpretation & conclusions of what might be better, more compassionate, & more intelligent ethical standards to use in evaluating women, for an idea like: "You are who you have the uncommon good fortune to meet, who you interpret more accurately, who you choose to emulate in part, and with whom you each bring the best out of each other."
Oprah is famous for saying, "Luck is preparation meeting opportunity." Some people consider themselves unlucky, thinking fate repeatedly avoids giving them opportunities to succeed or surpass their cycles of problems. Many people are unlucky because they haven't known how to recognize good opportunities as they've encountered them. The best opportunities we often miss are those that are already near us, but unrecognized. Unrecognized opportunities are often discovered through learning better social mining skills, interpreting women more accurately, giving them the benefit of the doubt, and bringing to fruition the jewels of human resources that already surround us.
In an overly simplifed (but I think accurate) sense, Ms. Thompson doesn't want women disabled by misidentifying "good and desirous" actions as "bad and immoral" actions, either in themselves or in the community of women that support them.
Good comparative reading, on the young (and older) women's issues discussed in this book, includes: "The Body Project" by Joan Jacobs Brumberg, "Appetites: Why Women Want" by Caroline Knapp (deceased), "Dilemmas of Desire" by Deborah L. Tolman, and "Promiscuities" by Naomi Wolf. If you are personally struggling with any issues discussed in these books, simple web searches can sometimes give you contact information for the authors. They may be too busy to respond, but they may also respond and be able to possibly point you toward books or resources to assist you further with any personal questions. For example, I had some comments of gratitude for Deborah L. Tolman and she was kind enough to write a kind, brief note back. Women who have spent years writing these types of books, often have active compassion.
Sharon Thompson genuinely cares about young women, and she does not want them disabling themselves by blindly following demographers who are "fixated on locating the 'cause' of" problems that are not necessarily problems. (p. 9) Some authors write so mistakes they made won't be made by others. Some write so that bad things that happened to people they care about don't happen to others. Ms. Thompson writes for both those reasons and for yet another reason: She writes so new understandings might enable new & beautiful environments for woman to prosper in.
"'There's an irreducible risk in loving,' as . . . Ellen Willis once wrote. Short of living without love, the best girls can do, their own accounts suggest, is to act with realism and courage; condition consent on desire and protection; continue interests and associations other than romance no matter how much in love or in need of love they are; and refuse to accept love as a reason to endanger themselves or foreclose the future." (p. 285)
Over 400 interviewed girls can't be wrong!.......2002-03-11
There are a lot of new books out now (March 2002) on teenage girls and sex. This one, I hope will remain the classic. Thompson is an exceptional researcher and not just another journalist with an interesting idea. Her analysis is provocative but also very useful. I write about her work in my book, The Secret Lives of Girls, which is about 6-12 year old girls, not teens, and agree with her that a teenager girl's as well as a pre-teen girl's view of love and romance make her especially vulnerable today.

Book Description
Acclaimed as one of the best works available on feminine psychology from the time it first appeared in 1933, The Way of All Women discusses topics such as work, marriage, motherhood, old age, and women's relationships with family, friends, and lovers. Dr. Harding, who was best known for her work with women and families, stresses the need for a woman to work toward her own wholeness and develop the many sides of her nature, and emphasizes the importance of unconscious processes.

On the way of a woman searching to understand herself and others and life.......2007-01-15
This was my Christmas present from my friend Heidi, a psychologist, friend, support, fellow woman and to find this here un-reviewed simply boggles my mind. It was given to help me in a difficult time in my 47th year of life.
I came here to read reviews actually to see how women wrote about the work. And found none. I think because the work is so incredibly academic, psychologically deep- it's intimidating to read frankly. If you are on life's journey, man or woman, this book will speak to you. I am far from skilled enough to present the work of Harding intellectually as it deserves. Undoubtedly it is the best work I've read on being a woman talking to me now as I struggle through marriage, family, growing older and looking at my relationship to love, to mothering, to others, my roles and my heart's voice.
Later in the text she discusses friendship and it's role for women and that, oh that, is just so very real. It is so complex and presented so well it must be read by women. I have given the book to both my daughters hoping their levels of understanding will surpass my operation in the world, better to read younger with eyes open. It's just so well directed at our reasons and our patterns, what we seek and need and how the unfolding works. This has been so helpful.
In reading Harding talks of this process, of beings in relationships between man and woman, projecting anima, animus, why and how integration goes forth in making real friendships not idealized constructs. It was fascinating stuff to apply . As I turn back to work in my school, in art, in writing and continue creating I see opportunities to use this work as a backdrop for some thinking on my part. Listen to this, "There is another way in which a woman may be redeemed from the bondage of instinct and of ego, namely through a worked-out relationship with a man. If the woman falls in love with the man who has projected his anima onto her, she is no longer aloof and indifferent. The projection of her animus is caught by him. She, as well as he, is under an inner obligation to get in touch with her soul. She can no longer play unscathed in a situation which may well be a matter of life and death to him, for she is also involved. However little the situation may be to her liking, she is compelled to come back to him over and over again to try to work out difficulties between them. By this means reality can gradually be made to replace the illusion of the animus and anima projections, a process which involves psychological development and an extension of consciousness through the assimilation of that unconscious side of the psyche which previously lived in projected animus or anima. "
This is a case of clear writing. I think any woman knows these shoes whether conscious or unconscious her roles are exposed and illuminated within the volume.
I don't find this a fast read, rather a rich one. As a woman practically I needed this and recommend it to every woman to explore their behavior, heart, roles, friendships, how love works through them and in themselves. Of course Jung's work, which Harding took on, is for me the closest I have come as an artist, maker, creator, doer.... to looking at my creating, dreaming, inner worlds and relationships and what drives them. This was an awesome gift. Worthy of Heidi's place in psychological work that is her gift.

out of the Hiding Place.......2006-03-12
This beautiful tender book reveals the voice from the hiding place. Elizabeth's life is an inspiration. I also enjoyed her website http://www.elizabethsherrill.com which gives some more glimpses into the life of this amazing woman.
If you're a fan of the Sherrills, Guideposts, Catherine Marshall..........2005-12-24
...or any other from this era of writing, you will especially enjoy this book. While it is lovely and worthwhile reading on its own, stories about these Christian writers made it a double blessing for me - highly recommended!!
goes all the way.......2003-06-19
Elizabeth Sherrill goes all the way to the truth and to Jesus in her autobiography. She never faulters in the truth about herself and the people who have been meaningful during her life, yet writes without rancor showing that Jesus has brought healing and reconciliation where her "dragons" are concerned. This was one of those great reads where I tried to sneak in 10 minutes here and there throughout the day so I could journey on with Sherrill. I was never disappointed; found myself underlining sentences and passages. Was sorry to see the book end.
We all want to keep growing........2002-12-17
All The Way to Heaven by Elizabeth Sherrill is a beautiful story of growth and compassion that involves the reader in every aspect of the journey and carries the reader from a child's struggle to understand until the complex and complete answer on the very last page. Every moment of loss, indecision or struggle is only a step closer to the truth. And do we ever and always need to hear that. The entire book is an insightful and uplifting masterpiece of human endeavor. Elizabeth Sherrill is a dynamic and intelligent person with understanding of all human frailties. Yet her courage, her tenderness and her compassion is a magnificent testimony to love and faith.
a rich, cohesive tapestry.......2002-10-02
Such a rich, cohesive tapestry of one's inner life! Elizabeth Sherrill has had a bit of practice writing about other people - but taking hard, honest looks in the mirror and typing away ain't easy. The human trials are what make All the Way to Heaven such a deep, engrossing story. I also loved the mini-profiles of the many people in her life - especially Mea.

very helpful.......2006-08-07
This book has made it easier to understand some of my behaviors in dating relationships. It encourages me to take my own power, knowing that utimately, I am in control of my destiny.
THIS BOOK WORKS!.......2006-06-29
I was skeptical at first upon seeing this book but then I ordered it, read it and I have to say, it really does make sense! I read it over the weekend and have been thinking about it ever since. I found my category and Dr. Magids is right. You are the one constant in all your relationships (family, friends, boyfriends, etc.) so if things always seems to not work out, then it kind of forces you to look at yourself directly...and this book really helps you do just that. The book helped me to see and understand things much better. I think I can now really act on correcting behavoir that wasn't helping me in my relationships. I now feel good about my future relationships instead of being miserable and feeling like I'll never find anyone. Thanks for writing this book -- I'll help spread the word!
Oh, the joy of dating........2006-06-17
When I picked up this book, I was feeling like dating was a never-ending road. But this book gave me some helpful insight. I really appreciate Magids's psychological analysis on dating and her explanation of why people just can't seem to find a permanent, loving relationship. I especially liked the section on how to find the roots of dating failures and eradicate them so you can ultimately find true love.
I was really drawn to the discussion on how daters find themselves at a "dead-end" due to a lack of confidence. Although she mentioned several things you can do to boost your confidence level, I can tell you what works for me. If you enhance your knowledge and feed your mind, you can become that confident, interesting person. Services like Agogus.com are great - it's quick, easy and has really interesting topics. My road to a long-lasting relationship seems a little shorter now - just watch out for those dips!
