Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

great teen bible.......2007-06-06
this is one of the best bibles i have purchased for my daughter
it offers alot of extra info full of wisdom
This Bilbe knows its audience!.......2007-03-13
When my English step-daughter started going to the Methodist Church, she asked my husband for an American Bible. She found it difficult to read the KJV but had enjoyed reading my Bible (ASV). Within 10 minutes of her call, we were at the Bible book store in Katy, TX, buying this Bible. (She was 16 at the time.) We had her name engraved on it, and she thought that was wonderful. (It seems that is not a common practice in England.) Because this version was so easy to understand, her friends thought it was great. We ended up buying a copy for her best friend (the minister's daughter) a copy as well. We've given my step-daughter a newer Bible, as she's 18 now, but she still prefers this one. When her brother turned 16, I bought the young men's version for him.
Not shocking .......2007-01-21
I was afraid this Bible would be too young and immature for my 15 year old daughter, but reading the other reviews helped me decide to get it. Unless your daughter is homeschooled and has no contact with TV, radio, internet, movies, kids at church, in the neighborhood, or in sports, they won't be shocked by anything in this book. My daughter loves it and she gave it the 5 star rating.
NIV True Images,The Bible For Teen Girls.......2007-01-15
This Bible is a great gift for any teenage girl. There are sections inside that talks about sex, friends, attitudes etc.... I bought the PERFECT Bible for my 13 year old.
A disgrace to the Holy Word of God.......2006-12-13
I have never seen such inappropriate topics discussed in a "Bible" for "teen-girls". The social decadence we see in this day and age can only be furthered by premature knowledge of the immoral content in this book. Young ladies can learn about these things once they are safely married; their vulnerable minds will be poisoned by such disgraceful things. No responsible Christian parent would allow a such a "Bible" through the front door, much less into the hands of their immature "teen" daughters. The hypocrites who produced this will be judged by the Lord in full, LOL
Customer Reviews:
Had I seen it years ago, my daughter would have owned it.......2007-05-09
If I had encountered this book when my daughter was young, she would have owned it. The structure is a basket containing a white rabbit, chocolate rabbit, a chick, flowers and Easter eggs. These items are depressed, so as the thick pages are turned, the items are "removed" from the basket. The pages are very colorful and the "basket" items sparkle, features that will capture and keep the attention of young children. The text, which appears in captions at the bottom, explains the religious significance of Easter.
My Easter Basket: And the True Story of Easter.......2006-09-18
Excellent introduction to the Easter account in terms toddlers and preschoolers can understand.
great book.......2004-03-14
Nice way to combine modern Easter traditions and the real Easter story. The pictures on the Amazon site don't really show the glitter on the book well. The colors are really vibrant, and the glitter sparkles on every page.
Excellent Book!.......2004-03-14
First of all, this book just looks fun! It is shaped, has many bright colors, and it SPARKLES!! This is a book that you will not mind reading several times. It also has a great message. It begins with, "The colors in this basket are my own special way for me to tell the story of that first Easter Day." Kids will hear the TRUE story of Easter in a fun, colorful way. By using the many colors commonly found in Easter baskets, the author takes us through the entire Easter story. From the green palm leaves, to the purple wine, to the red blood, to the brown cave, to the white angel, to the yellow sun. Each section is presented in rhyming format. "The purple in my basket reminds me of the time that Jesus shared with his friends a meal of bread and wine." In addition, the children depicted in this book are very diverse, which is an added bonus. This book shows asian, black, white, and biracial children, all experiencing the love of Jesus. A unique and welcome accomplishment.

Nine Faces of Christ.......2007-05-04
I really enjoyed reading this book. It is both inspirational and intriguing.
What's Your Motivation?.......2005-10-02
I believe that one does not just come upon a book such as this without being on a personal spiritual quest of a sort. To process its contents, my suggestion would be to know what drives you and what you seek before reading it. With a mind opened to a non-orthodox interpretation of the life Jesus may have led, this book could prove quite stimulating, and could serve as an invitation to broaden one's meditations even on the lives of Joseph and Mother Mary. However, if one is not prepared for such an alternative view, the experience would be more shocking than beneficial.
A great seekers guide to the Christ process.......2004-06-08
This is a fascinating book for anyone who is an earnest seeker of enlightenment and has a fascination with Jesus Christ but is not into fundamentalist christian ideas and instead views Christ as a great spiritual master whose true teachings only come to us in fragments through the New Testament.
Although this book is not directly a book about uncovering the real Jesus, one can certainly make a lot of sense out of the gospels with this interesting book.
The main character of our story is one Jeshua Joseph-bar-Joseph. The author takes us through a story that pretty much unfolds exactly the way it does in the New Testament gospels, however in this version the author has put a lot of emphasis on the back story of how Jeshua has become a Christ. It isn't just a man born a "divine perfected being", Jeshua has to earn his Christhood through much training and many, many challenges. We get to see HOW he came upon all this great wisdom and ability. We get to see all the great trials Jeshua went through before he went out to deliver his message to the masses. Basically, we get to see a kind of Christ training process. One great thing is we see Jeshua challenged all along the way. Even after he has achieved great heights of exalted consciousness, he still continues to grow and be challenged. It has a very human quality to it that we can all identify with. It's not just "one day while praying he saw the Light and from then on he was the perfected Christ". No, this book has Jeshua really challenged at times while in the process. His core is always very strong and resiliant, but in this story we are shown some "growing pains". Enough to make this story quite inspirational because of how we all can identify with Jeshua trials and tribulations, how we all need to stay focused on staying strong during those challenging times that bring us those break-throughs,it is a story that resonates with our own process of growth. It makes one realize that Enlightenment is more than just having blissful meditations. Christ consciousness only comes from really pushing past your comfort zones spiritually!
So many things in the New Testament make so much more sense after reading this or at least can be viewed in a new light.......One of the most interesting books I've ever read of the "New Age" Christ works.
If it's not "the" truth it certainly is "a" truth........2003-05-17
I have read this book 3 times and will now purchase it again for a 4th reading, since I loaned it and well, you know. But, this book I believe carries so much truth with it that the soul cannot deny it and continues to seek it out, read after, read after, read. I find it to be an amazing amount of wisdom and spiritual teaching, more than I ever got from the New Testament. For me, it is more of the bible, or what I believe they would never print, or allow to be written in the bible then I have seen before. It feels like a channeled piece of work though I do not believe it claims to be so. But, it feels like Christ is speaking to you and telling you his story, how it really happened, and what he really meant when he said and did the things he did.
Controversial? Only if you want it this way........2003-02-04
Is this book actually pretending to tell the truth about the life of Jesus, over and beyond what the new testament narrates? I don't know, and frankly, I don't care.
...Are the mortal sins imported from Egypt? Or shall adultery be punishable in the eyes of God? Well, in the eyes of the church, yes. And we know this is control. I have never accepted the idea that God could give us tools only so he could forbid us to use them. It's like putting candies in the hand of your own child and telling him that he may not -ever- eat them. What is this? Love and care, or torture?
At least Eugene E. Whitworth had the courage to expose his ideas.
If you don't like the idea that this is another 'truth' about the life of Jesus, why not simply accept it as a daring novel?
Eugene E. Whitworth is offering you HIS truth. This deserves respect.
I'm not knowledgeable enough in theology to give any opinion on how truthful the book may be. But then I'm back to quoting the author: what is the difference between reality and actuality?
...
Book Description
God always has a plan; God always has a man. The plan: destroy the wickedness of the world. The man: Noah. How would you feel if you knew that God was going to destroy the world, and you had been chosen out of millions of people to continue the human race? This book is not just Sunday school material for kids, but the thrilling adventure of Noah comes to life through the dazzling, detailed illustrations and the exciting True Story of Noah's Ark. The images of the interior of Noah's ark are like nothing you've ever seen before. The people and cities depicted here are certainly more advanced than what you've been led to believe - these people weren't cavemen! They invented metals and musical instruments; they were skilled craftsmen; they built grand cities - all BEFORE the Flood. And this is not fiction - it's all biblically and historically based.
Customer Reviews:
The antithesis of educational materials.......2007-05-31
Stop poisoning young minds with this garbage. Fairy tales are fun for kids, but don't pretend they're a substitute for science and facts.
fabulous job on book!.......2007-01-22
What illustrations! It sent chills down my back just looking at the pictures! THIS is what the real Noah's ark was like!! Amazing!
If Seeing is Believing - I Believe !.......2007-01-03
We all love Bible stories. Words are nice, but there are always so many words, and they're so dry and, well, unappealing,... !
Sure, the Bible's got the unequivocal historical facts, like how long the ark was, how wide, and how many of each animal were aboard in order to repopulate the entire earth with their species (of course everyone knows the answer is "two of each").
But those facts are so cold and hard and uncompromising in their factuality - the archaeologically/empirically-verified historical account can only take you so far.
As a modern-media Christian, you really need VISUAL punch, watercolor wonderment, a little of that Spielbergian movie-magic, to make the story of the Destruction of the Wicked World by a Wrathful but Just God come alive in your heart.
I think Noah's Ark should be a holiday - not just one day, but a whole month plus - a 40-day holiday - kind of like Ramadan, except valid. There'd be pool parties, treading-water contests, animal parades, just imagine the fun !
Surely the story of Noah's Ark, like the other historical anecdotes of the Old Testament, has a deep significance and relevance to us even in this day and age, as a parable of, well, what happens when people are wicked. (God will drown you). I think there's a lesson there, somewhere, for all of us.
Plus, as a bonus, it completely answers the question "What are rainbows and how are they formed ?" (answer: It's God saying 'Hm, Sorry about that, I Kinda Lost My Temper - Won't Happen Again, Trust Me.')
And "What kind of birds like to fly around with olive branches in their mouths ?" (answer: Doves)
If you read/scan/flip through this beautiful book, and are still skeptical about the verity of the whole notion of a worldwide flashflood and subsequent repopulation of all land animals from single breeding pairs, ... well then brother, I give up, there's just no convincing YOU, is there ?
Origin of the word "Genocide"?.......2006-12-30
Forget those nagging questions such as the 23,000 foot depth of water needed to submerge the highest mountains, the lack of air and sub-zero temperatures at that altitude... My question is why this was taught to me and millions of other children as a cute fairy tale... instead of what it was... the first "Genesis"-ocide. Why do the illustrations show the cute giraffes and zebras instead of drowning babies? Why were the billions of sinless creatures and plant drowned along with the "sinners"?
Why would a god who supposedly "loves" humans do this? If he wanted to start over, why didn't he magically sterilized the human race(OK not Noah)... a lot simpler than the flood, and a lot less murderous, and take a more patient approach... after all, he has plenty of time. He set a fine example for Hitler, Stalin, Milosovec, etc.
A different view of Noah's Ark.......2006-07-29
Until I had read this book the cute versions of Noah's Ark were my only image of this story despite having read the Bible's precise description many times. This amazing book has changed all that. I was fascinated to read and see that the exact dimensions of the ark, make it similiar to a box not a boat. It is not self propelled, but made to keep its passengers safe in the most severe conditions. The drawings are magnificent, and the story fresh and insightful. The only part I question is just how developed society was before the flood. Still, I recommend it highly.

Easy to understand .......2007-08-16
I bought this bible for my sister and as I was flipping through it on last Sunday I realized I had to have my own. It has wonderful devotional components and TNIV is an easy to understand read. It is also very beautiful. I love it.
For women of all ages.......2007-05-19
I really appreciate the TNIV translation in that it is easy-to-read using modern English. God's Word is timeless, and this bible is very suitable for women of all ages. I found the notes very helpful and stimulating in my devotional reading. I also appreciate the page layout, wide margins, and the beautiful cover. OK, I do think the print is a bit small; eyes are not timeless unfortunately, but that is what glasses are for!

Portrait of a "Lady".......2007-08-12
Anytime one attempts to sum up the attributes of what every "true" woman is, you can bet they'll come up lacking. It's not surprising, then, that Susan Hunt's book has a limited view of women and what a Christian woman should look like, especially since she's a complimentarian. Although I expected a few shortcomings, I was still disappointed in some of Hunt's descriptions of femininity.
I honestly think Hunt's an awesome writer (and that's the biggest compliment I've ever given to a complmentarian, so treasure it). I'd even like to confirm that I know she has a wonderful view of women and she's certainly not a shrinking violet. This is, in fact, one of the reasons I was disappointed with some of the pillow-soft descriptions of women in this book.
In one of Hunt's other books, her description of women gave me the image of her rallying troops of female soldiers in God's name. In this book, on the other hand, the extreme softness she attributed to the female character made me feel as though I was being fed cotton candy when my spiritual teeth had been expecting a tough piece of meat. The chapters of domesticity and submission were the two most "pat" chapters and definetly left a lot to be desired in regards to female character. At one point, Hunt quoted a man who said that the points of feminine loveliness were purity, piety, domesticity, and submission. If Hunt expected her reader to sigh in admiration of this man, she would have been sorely disappointed in my disgust at his simplistic answer. If a man wants to preach about submission, he should preach it to his brothers and leave women alone. I've had more than enough of these old-fashioned titles being thrown at women over the ages from men trying futiley to determine womanhood.
The chapter of submission irritated me as well, though not because of the submission issue so much as the descriptions of womanhood. At one point, Hunt again uses a faulty quote from an outside source, in this case a novel describing its heroine as a "figure of gossamer that a man can see his own masculinity become more apparent against. This causes him to lift his shoulders and even strut a little". This description nearly had me gagging; a creature made of gossamer?? This is the essence of a woman's soul? A Christian woman should have an iron backbone that endures through trials, not a figure of "gossamer" that shreds in the wind and certainly not a mirror that a man can admire his manhood from! A woman's spirit should reflect her own strength, not someone else's. And don't even get me started on the "strutting male".
The description in the quote got worse, though. The gossamer woman thus described apparently had a small son who, according to the author, "was not immune to his mother's femininity. He was perfectly aware that she was a woman and he was her protecter." Again, a picture that was gagworthy as well as exasperating. Mothers are the protecters of their little boys, not the other way around; this is a prime example of how so many like Hunt are taking the process of turning little boys into men way too seriously. I think we can let them be children before they reach manhood and at least acknowledge the fact that they are children and not grown men. Furthermore, womanhood doesn't need protecting. As soldiers in God's army, women should be trained to wield swords of their own, not to hide behind men.
Hunt did have some good points, particularly about the influence of a woman and Christian compassion. In this book, however, she definetly needs a broader definition of womanhood and I urge women who read this to avoid attempting to fit into a one-size-fits-all mold. God made every being different for a reason. Embrace your God-given individuality and use your unique gifts to the fullest.
The True Woman : The Beauty and Strength of a Godly Woman.......2000-02-18
Even Christian women will be shocked to realize just how much selfish feminist ideas have become a part of their thinking. This book guides women back to what the Bible has to say about the ideal woman.
Challenging and Encouraging!.......1999-06-10
This is a great book for any woman who desires to grow in her relationship with the Lord and become the woman He created her to be--no more conforming to the world's image of femininity. Susan Hunt does a great job of sticking with scripture and biblical examples to paint a clear picture of the "true woman."
A challenge to Christian women to live a Godly life........1998-05-04
This book challenges women to review their lives. It begins with a definition of what the Bible defines as a True Woman. Each chapter is prefaced with a real account from a Godly woman and her struggles with real life situations. It is peppered with illustrations of women who have walked with God. There are wonderful Scriptural references to help determine the Biblical purpose of women. It is a challenge to all Christian women to find out how to be a True Woman of God in today's world.

An intellectual study of worship and calling.......2007-04-14
Nicholas Thomas "Tom" Wright is an Anglican bishop and a leading conservative British New Testament scholar. He has written 43 books including one with the liberal scholar, Marcus Borg of the Jesus Seminar, entitled The Meaning of Jesus: Two Visions.
The word worship is a contraction of "worth-ship." It means giving God all he's worth. This book is a call to renewal of worship and witness--not in the sense of adopting this or that fad or introducing this or that new music, but a renewal that begins with a better knowledge of God. The book's first half entitled, "The God Who is Worthy of Praise," dwells on the greatness and love of God as these shine forth in the death and resurrection of Christ. The second half, "Reflecting God's Image in the World," shows how worship from the heart and mind leads to mission. "Are we ready," the author asks, "to speak up for the truth of the gospel over the dinner-table, and in the coffee-bar, and in the council-chamber?" In a January 2002 interview Wright compared prayer and worship to drinking a glass of fine wine:
If you have a wonderful bottle of wine, you could simply drink it out of a tea mug. But that isn't how you want to drink wine. Doesn't show it off to a good advantage, doesn't set off the flavor? It's best if you have the right sort of glass. It's the same way with . . . worship of the Almighty God -- you can worship him anywhere. You can worship him in a bathroom, you can worship him in the back room of a pub. Really, God is everywhere and wants you to worship him. But if we really want to do it, wouldn't it be wonderful to have a building that was designed for it, and preferably one that has been prayed in quite a bit already, so it has the resonance and the memory.
What we believe about God makes a great difference in the way we are in the world. If God is a distant being, one who made the world and left it, or intervenes rarely, then we have a banished god, a vacuum in our life that comes to be filled with the gods of war, money, sex, power or whatever else we come to worship with our time and energy.
I was talking to somebody not long ago who said, "You know, I used to believe in God; but then, as I grew up, I found it harder and harder to think of this old man up there in the sky, so far removed from all the pain and suffering down here in the world." And I said to him, "I don't believe in that god either! The God I believe in is the god I see in the middle of the pain and the suffering down here in the world. Without Jesus, the crucified Jesus, sharing and bearing the pain and sin and suffering of the world, I don't actually know who on earth or in heaven God might be at all." You see, if you envisage a god up there in the sky, detached from the reality of the world, any worship you offer will simply be a distant acknowledgment of majesty, like the ploughboy doffing his cap as the great nobleman rides by ignoring him. And if you go the other route, as my friend was inclined to, and say that therefore the word "god" can only refer to the impulse of goodness inside ourselves, then you'll find it pretty hard to sustain any real sense of worship at all. All you're left with is the ploughboy imagining himself to be a nobleman. But if Jesus is to be the lens through which you glimpse the beauty of God, you will discover what it means to worship, because you will discover what it means to be loved.
Wright says we are all called in one of three levels or varieties. First, we are all called to hold onto God with one hand and embrace those around us in prayer, generosity, teaching and caring. There is no one that we meet who does not need healing of some kind and the pain we all suffer is remarkably alike. Who in their lifetime has not stood close to Jesus feeling beaten, mocked, crucified and in the wilderness? This kind of healing does not take miracles or a life of spiritual heroics, for the best healers are weak and wounded -- just look at Paul, who was not all that healthy. This healing can be expressed in the ordinary ways we care for another, in cooking, humor, visiting and even playing.
The second level is to those who are called to Church Ministry. The church is desperate for ordained clergy, but it also needs people to step into leadership positions, as teachers, worship assistants, youth directors, etc.
The third level of calling is in prayers for those caught in crises and trapped in the middle of war, prison, unemployment, poverty, sickness. We need healing prayers to bring about the social and political changes that will bring the peace of the Lord to all. These three varieties can be seen as means to build a Christian community and bring God and the teaching of Jesus into all parts of the world. This is all about sharing and bearing the pain, the thorn in our sides.
G. K. Chesterton one of the most prolific and gifted writers of the 20th century said that the purpose of an open mind is like the purpose of an open mouth: that it might shut on something solid. Tom Wright (www.ntwrightpage.com) is as solid a writer on Paul and the New Testament as you can digest and I hope you will make this or one of his many other works part of your reading for pleasure and knowledge.

What the Church is called to BE.......2007-02-15
It does not matter how much you have read by N. T. Wright, I think you will find this book fresh. This is a collection of sermons on the worship of the Church which is covered in the first section of the book and some very insightful things are said about the Lord's supper and worship in particular. The calling of the Church is really what this book is about however. There is little about worship style, although what is there on that topic is very good. Wright really is able to get to the heart of what Jesus and the Church should really be all about. His stuff on the Middle East and Jewish-Christian relations need to be heeded. As always, with Wright you will get little tid bits that will change the way you view certain texts. I strongly recommend this book especially to preachers and those interested in the Churches vocation.
In My Top 10.......2006-03-11
This book will find itself in my top recommendations (at least for a while). N.T. Wright's works are putting him in my favorite authors list. In this piece Wright tackles the subject of the Church and its mission.
Because the Church is one of my passions, I read a lot about it. In this book, I was given a taste and glimpse so inspiring that I fell in love with what the Church could be all over again.
If you are a follower of Jesus - this book will help crystalize what He invites us (His followers) to do and be in the world.
Get it, buy it, read it, love it, live it.
TRUE MISSION OF THE CHURCH.......2004-03-28
Wright will push the conservative traditional mindset. I thank God for people like him. Who are not afraid to tell it like it is. Who see the church and it's mission not as a religion but as the way. The way that Jesus intended for us to follow. And how our vocation is to be a light to follow, not a set of rules to follow.
A Challenge To Focus Mission.......2003-05-16
Wright is a skilled academic and researcher. He also is a man very committed to faith in action based on his deep understanding of the New Testament. For All God's Worth is Wright's call to all Christians to focus on worship and mission and to end divisive behavior. Wright recalls the healing and redemptive actions throughout the ministry of Jesus to illustrate how Christians should continue His work. He sees the redemptive consequence of Jesus as the Christians call to bring about the Kingdom Of God on Earth as it is in Heaven. Believers do this when they begin reflecting the one true God and not other gods of today.
This book is an easy read and can be broken into parts (each chapter is about 25 pages). It will inspire clergy, academic, and layperson alike.

Too Bright and Type too small.......2007-01-01
I really love the new TNIV and this bible especially, but for the leather version that pink is so bright that it's hard to look at and the type is too small for me to read comfortably. The bright pink makes it look like a Bible for teenage girls, although it's really for grown women. That said, I love the articles which are very practical and relate directly to my life. The authors aren't afraid to tackle the tough issues like sexual abuse, abortion, divorce, money, a painful past, having doubts about faith, etc., all within the context of the Christian faith, with scriptures to look at pertaining to the issues. They also have many conversation pieces throughout for thought or discussion. I'd give it 5 stars, but as I said, that pink is so bright it hurts my eyes and the color makes it look like a girls' Bible. Also I really wish the type were larger and darker. Still a great Bible if you don't mind those things, or if you do, the hardback/paperback might be a better choice, to save your eyesight anyway.
Best bible I've ever had!.......2006-08-08
I absolutely love this bible. It is written in a way that makes it easy to understand and the scripture is related to real life situations that can help you see how the bible makes sense in todays world. GREAT Bible for those who want really want to be able to sit down and read the bible to get something out of it. I never have been able to really understand how the bible applies to my life directly and this bible is really helping me with my faith.

Soup for the Adoptive Parents Soul.......2007-10-11
If you need a pick me up, if you need encouragement, if you need to laugh, if you need to cry, if you need affirmation that you are doing or did the right thing by adopting - this book is for you! Absolutely inspirational - a must for that long road to adopting!
Encouraging Read for anyone involved in the Adoption Process.......2006-01-12
This book truly provides encouragement to those who find their lives touched by adoption or who are deciding whether to take that step in their lives. The only flaw, from my perspective, would be that the stories heavily focused on adoptions through a lawyer and not through an agency. That said, I appreciated that the stories were varied in their perspective - some were from the adoptive family, the birth family, the social worker, adoptee. In addition, there were a variety of different reasons and situations for seeking adoption. Finally the stories involved adoptions that were domestic and international, as well as of varying ages. The biggest blessing was, however, the encouragement it gave. There are not many people who can truly understand the feelings adoption brings out except for those who have experienced it. That being said, those who have experienced it are able to encourage others in their waiting on God like no one else can. If you need encouragement in the waiting, help in discerning whether adoption is for you, or just want to understand the emotions of this amazing process, this book is for you.
Beautiful Stories!.......2005-04-21
Beautiful stories about God's hand in adoptions!! Very encouraging to read while you're in the adoption process. :)
