Talk About Good is the BEST!!.......2007-06-27
This is by far the best cook book ever written!! These are truly "Cajun" based recipes and are tried and true! I highly recommend it to anyone that is interested in Cajun Cuisine. It is THE BEST!!!
Talk About Good.......2007-01-15
During my childhood, this was my mother's favorite cookbook - long before it was feasible to access such a wide range of recipes from the internet. She lost the cookbook (and everything else) in Hurricane Katrina, and it has been difficult to replace it. We were so happy to be able to find it on Amazon.com and give it to her for Christmas. Although she has relocated from New Orleans, the cookbook and the recipes that she used from it over the holidays, made us feel at home. The cookbook itself demonstrates authentic home cooking. Each recipe reflects the contributors' individual tastes and family traditions, and the types of cooking and ingredients provide a glimpse into a distinct culture. I find it as much fun to read the recipes and their variations as to cook them.
TALK ABOUT GOOD.......2007-01-15
This is most likely the BEST cookbook in existence, defiantly if you like Cajun food. The fact that it has a binding that allows pages to lay flat, remain open shows how the publisher intended this book to be used, in the kitchen.
Wife wore out the 1st copy I bought her, literally to torn shreds, this is a replacement, and we got it at a great price.
Favorite Cookbook.......2006-11-07
I've had this cookbook for many years, and it is my favorite.
I'm from New Orleans, and these are authentic Cajun recipes. There are many ways to cook a specific dish, and I find the various recipes reflect these personal touches. You cannot go wrong with "Talk About Good".
Real Food.......2006-09-09
I actually bought my copy while I was in High School. Twenty years later it is still a good source of inspiration and variety.
If you like good food and the joy of life, pick up a copy and enjoy yourself!

Good, but not specific enough.......2007-07-09
I'm teaching a Sunday School class for 7th-8th grade girls, and am collecting as many resources as possible. This book is good, but I wish there were more specifics and suggestions. Overall, a pretty good resource.
Totally Changed!.......2006-05-21
This book really helped me with my walk with God. If you are even just 11 [...], it can really make a difference in your life! I really liked the book, and it was worth the money!
Talking Up Let's Talk!.......2004-08-24
Where was Danae Dobson when I was a teenager in the sixties? I certainly could have used her sage counsel during that turbulent decade. I recently purchased her new book Let's Talk, as a
graduation gift for my niece, and ended up reading it cover to cover myself. I was captivated. Dobson has penned a teenage treasure chest-a creative compendium of important insights
teenage girls need to know about God, guys, girlfriends, and growing up. With wisdom that belies her own youthful years, Dobson has filled this tiny tome with a plethora of inspiration
about everything from peer pressure to parents to personal relationships with God-and more! Her brownie story alone (which takes the cake!) is worth the price of the book! Good writing
may run in the Dobson family, but clearly Danae Dobson has found her own voice and uses it to sound a clarion call for teenage girls. If they harken it, they will navigate the teen-age years
successfully with the grace, wisdom, and blessing of God. This book is a must-read for both teenagers and those who love them.

Talk About Good 2.......2007-01-15
This book, like it's younger brother TALK ABOUT GOOD is an excellent cookbook that is practical in every sense, not some idealized collection of rarely used concoctions.
This version has a short story before each section that tells about the culture that created the foods.
As with the 1st edition, and the IIIrd edition, the binding allows this book to remain open to the page being used, a requirement in the kitchen. Again, this is a USEFUL COOKBOOK, not a book that lives on the living room table.
If you liked the 1st book, get this one, and be prepared to get TALK ABOUT GOOD III, it is also a keeper.
Great Sequel.......2000-12-09
This a the sequel to the first Talk About Good, but is good and complete enough to stand on its own. I recommend it highly as I do the first one. The artwork by Rodrigue is wonderful and the recipes are truly authentic. A necessary edition to any kitchen, Cajun or not.
Aptly subtitled "A Toast to Cajun Food".......1999-01-03
This cookbook is an excellent source reflective of South Louisiana (i.e., "Cajun") culture. The recipes are interesting, easy to follow, and have been "tested" on family and friends of Junior League members.
As interesting as the recipes are the illustrations by internationally known painter George Rodrigue of Lafayette, Louisiana. His paintings and comments accurately portray the Cajun culture, and give an insight into the Cajun way of life. You will even learn the meaning of the expression, "Laissez les bons temps rouler".
If you want to know how to make a good gumbo, many delicious ways to cook seafood (after all, the Cajuns invented the idea of "blackened" fish), or what to do with some of the game that your mighty hunters have brought home, this is the cookbook for you!

Good for stimulating conversation.......2007-04-07
This book sparks a conversation that is long overdue on a national level. Unfortunately, it does so from a perspective that adds ammunition to the gender-war. Niether men nor women benefit from one gender trying to blame the other for social issues. However, the hypocracy of the book is that it continues the exact problem it claims to be trying to stop. It's just another book from a long line of finger-pointers and gender blamers. It gave me the feeling the author was trying to play a big game of "gotcha!" by creating a laundry list of women's sins. It would have been more enjoyable if written from a human perspective rather than being so obviously one-sided. It certainly got me thinking more about gender issues but it failed to assist in working toward any type of solution.
Read this book...again and again!.......2001-03-15
Obviously, I disagree with the the review that called this book unsatisfying; it has to be one of the more satisfying books I have seen. I have read parts of this book so many times I lost count; it is indeed heartening to hear from intelligent women sympathetic to men. Not only that, Jack Kammer appears unafraid of being firm and, at the same time, respectful to these individuals. He never stoops to misogyny; he seems to know that if there is to be a greater understanding between the sexes, these women are the ones who will help bring it about.
Very Interesting.......1999-09-03
I disagree with the reviewer below who says this book exposes the 'hypocrisy' of feminism. This book is certainly of some value to me, and I am a feminist (and proud to be one). 'Good Will Toward Men' could hardly be said to contradict the tenets of feminism, when the book is a collection of opinion responses. I suppose a lot of uptight men will like this book (especially with that title!), but I think more women should give it a try. I find many of the opinions expressed in it worthy of debate, and many intelligent thoughts as well. For the other posters here, let me say, not all feminists are small spiteful creatures with too much time on their hands. In fact, most feminists don't make a living at it, but are simply interested in the world becoming accessible to women in all respects, and without the violence and cruelty that we suffer at the hands of men. Take this book to heart, guys; someday the bullies of feminism will have to take a back seat.
Excellent, a must read........1999-06-03
One of the few books on gender attempting to show that men suffer from inequalities and injustices in our society. Better yet women in the book say let's stop hating and bashing men; let's stop thinking of all women as victims and get on with our lives.
A great book that needed to be written.......1998-07-11
This book brings a glimmer of hope to men. It also exposes much of the ugly hypocrisy and bigotry of feminism. It does so by allowing 22 women to express their views on how men are treated by women. The fact that most of these women call themselves feminists is what makes their honesty about the biased and misandric nature of modern feminist society so surprising. In a time when male views on anything related to gender issues are almost completely ignored Jack Kammer's book manages to express what men have been trying to say all along. Most importantly, the book accomplishes this in perhaps the only way that women will listen to - by quoting from the mouths of women themselves. For women this book offers a realistic look at what it's like to be male. For men this book offers hope. It shows that there are still women in the world who realize that men are people, too. And it shows that there are women who are willing to admit that sometimes women can be wrong.

Organized Explanation of Behavior.......2001-08-25
The information in this book is easily found because of the organization. Dr. Sutton also carefully defines what he is discussing in understandable language for parents and teachers. I used this book as a source for writing an assignment for my discipline and classroom management course.
A terrible disappointment.......2001-04-11
As the parent of an "oppositional" son, I'd looked forward to reading this after seeing synopses on Dr. Sutton's website. Unfortunately, the "straight talk" was almost no help at all. At one point, the author claims ODD sufferers may have the lowest recovery rate of all childhood psychiatric disorders. If the therapists who treat them have no clearer understanding than the author, I would not be surprised.
I believe a major problem with the book is that it did not go through the editing process of a major publishing house. It was published in Pleasanton, TX, where the author happens to reside--and the book's layout is designed to stretch the manuscript to fill space...
Very helpful indeed.......2000-05-10
This is not another ho-hum book on behavior modification. Infact, Dr. Sutton believes (as does Dr. Ross Greene) that behavior modification can sometimes make this kid WORSE. Check out the "No-lutions" in the fifth chapter; they are eye-openers. Having tutored high school math for a number of years, I am in complete agreement with his perspective of "Good Kid" Disorder. Indeed, the number of good and decent kids who are simply shutting down seems to be climbing. This book not only offers insight into the problem, but shares tangible interventions that address the issues that really matter the most--relationships.
For the person considering buying this book, be aware that the largest chapter addresses school issues. This is a big plus. Having been a classroom teacher, Dr. Sutton is one of the few psychologists who really understands the scope and impact of oppositional and defiant behavior at school. The strategies he outlines for school compliance are among the standout features of this book. These strategies and interventions are even more expanded in Dr.Sutton's follow-up book, "101 Ways to Make Your Classroom Special". I believe the two books compliment one another nicely.
Got snookered.......1999-12-24
I have read articles by the author (e.g., Noncompliance: The "Good Kid" Disorder) which describes some of the challenges we have faced with our child. The title gives the impression that this book is similar in nature to those articles. It is not. The articles describe great kids that are struggling with behavior, finishing tasks, listening and remembering tasks.
What this book refers to is not that the kid is such a nice kid, but that he is never in criminal trouble, and this is why it is call the "Good Kid" disorder. This book describes kids that intentionally and overtly refuse to comply at home and at school. The author even mentions in the book that no parent of an ODD child would refer to their kid as a good kid.
Bottom line is if I had known what the book is really about, I would not have bought it. I have a real "Good Kid" that is struggling, and thought this book would help us. Unfortunately it does not.
As a psychotherapist, author and parent, this book is great!.......1998-02-26
Dr. Sutton has taken a very stressful life situation for many parents and caregivers, and put it all down on paper in a clear, concise way that we can all understand a learn valuable information from. "If My Kid's So Nice..." is well written and straightforward in it's delivery of both clinical explanations and common sense strategies and techniques for helping both the adults and the children. As a psychotherapist and a parent, I believe this book is full of great helpful ideas to better evaluate, understand and manage difficult-child behavioral situations.

Book Description
At the end of the day, when it is time for bed, every child follows traditions and routines.
Good Night, the sixteenth book in the Talk-About-Books series, explores the fun and chores that come with saying "good night" and going to sleep.
There is always one last game, and toys to put away. A warm bath with lots of bubbles is a nice way to end the day. If you have a bedtime snack, make sure to carefully brush your teeth afterwards. Pajamas are cozy. Story time is a wonderful chance to cuddle up and share a book. And don't forget a good-night kiss before you shut your eyes!
Each photograph is realistic and comforting. Children from various familial, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds experience "bedtime" and are seen in different stages of preparing for bed.
The Talk-About-Books series was designed to enhance a baby's or toddler's first collection of books. Each title in the series explores a specific aspect of the young child's world using real-life photographs that depict a variety of children in different natural settings. This innovative series grew out of a desire to provide children -- all children -- with the opportunity to see themselves within the books they are reading and to better identify with the children and families they are looking at.
The simple text and engaging photographs invite and encourage discussion between adult and child as they have fun exploring the images together.
Customer Reviews:
My son's favorite.......2007-08-04
My son is 19 months old and loves books. We checked this out from the library and he will not let me return it. On its due date it mysteriously disappears, only to be 'found' later at bedtime. I had to order him his own copy! This book is great for toddlers because they can relate to the photographs and 'read' what is going on. The diversity of the people in this book is also wonderful. I plan to order more from this series. There is no hidden agenda or certain morals being taught, just children preforming simple tasks and receiving lots of love from the adults in their lives.
Good for bedtime.......2005-07-07
Good Night contains photographs and text relating to children getting ready for bed. The text goes through some of the activities a child would do when getting ready for bed and the photographs are of young children performing these tasks. Some of the activities are putting away toys, having a bath, putting on pajamas, brushing teeth, using the potty, and reading a story. The photographs highlight a variety of children, including children of different races, a developmentally delayed child, and a child being held by a parent of a different race.
The bright colors and sparse text make this book appropriate for toddlers. In addition, it's a board book with rounded edges, making it easy for young children to look at by themselves. It shows children like them performing everyday tasks. Consistency and routines are important for young children and this book focuses on a ritual that every child performs each night. It also highlights the children's' accomplishments with sentences like "I can put on my pajamas and comb my hair all by myself." Also, toddlers need affection and this book includes multiple pictures of parents holding, hugging, and kissing their children. This book should be read to children at bedtime by their parents or other caregivers. The photographs are perfect for the text because they show the children performing the tasks that the text is describing.
