Pools and Spas.......2007-07-23
There are some good ideas and landscape ideas in this book for designing spas and pools. In the end I probably only spent 20 minutes in this book and didn't get a whole lot out of it. We spent a considerable amount of money on our pool but we live in Arizona and the landscape ideas didn't apply to this climate. Overall, lots of pretty pictures. 2 out of 5 stars.
We Borrowed Then Bought!.......2005-05-28
We also borrowed this from the library, but found we didn't want to return it. We spent hours showing each other what pictures we really liked, got great tips on thhe issues the pool owner faces and have a real idea of what we need to consider. So, since we want to use this during the planning process, we bought it!
Another Winner in Pool Books!.......2005-04-18
I borrowed this book from the library (too many pool books are not worth buying), and spent the rest of the night looking at it. Great photo examples of various types of pools that are described in detail, along with chapters on Safety, Design, Landscaping, Materials, etc... One of the best! (Same review as Pool & Spa Planner by Better Homes & Gardens, because they are both great books!)
Great info, great pictures, recommended resource.......2004-07-08
There are a lot of pretty home design books out there that have very little information tucked between the pictures. This book is full of information but also has a number of handsome photos of pools, spas, and water gardens which will give you ideas if you are planning a custom designed pool or tub. It's a great resource for someone thinking of installing these features in their backyard, and it also touches on landscaping, lighting, and even sauans.
Required reading for pool owners.......2004-04-07
Full of photographs of beautifully designed pools and spas set in various architectural environments, "Pools & Spas" is literally full of creative ideas if you are planning on adding a pool or spa to your home. However, the book does not stop with designs but also includes information on maintenance, various types of pool equipment, and even the process of installing an in ground pool. While the coverage of in ground pool installation is not detailed enough to do it yourself it does give you an idea of what is going on at the various stages so you know what to expect from your contractor.
If you are even thinking of installing a pool or spa, whether in ground, above ground, or portable, you should pick up a copy of "Pools & Spas". It includes a lot of factors that you might overlook when planning your pool and everything you need to know to take care of it correctly when it is finished.

I just recieved my copy of SalonOvations Day Spa Techniques and at this point I've only browsed the pages. It looks very interesting and useful. However, I'm really writing at this time to rave about the seller I received it from; Leslie66, who wrote me a kind email after the sale, letting me know about the prompt and effecient method by which the book was mailed out. And after having recieved it, I can say it is in excellent condition and appears to be everything the seller advertised.

This is an amazingly informative book if you are even thinking of starting a large upscale day spa or a very small day spa. Everything you need to know about everything is in this book. I would highly recommend this book!
A Priceless Resource.......2000-03-27
Day Spa Operations has been the most comprehensive guide to day spa start-up that I have encountered. I am in the process of starting a day spa and I can't imagine attempting this task without this valuable resource. It is a must read for anyone attempting a day spa start up, or just wanting to improve their current business. Having a copy of Day Spa Operations is like having your own personal day spa consultant. I will defintely check out other books in the SalonOvations series on the strength of this title by Erica Miller.

I saw this book in a store and picked it up as a gift. I ended up reading through it as I was getting ready to wrap it up and keeping it for myself. It's a great little reference guide or just something to flip through when you need a quick break from the craziness of work. A "must" for corporate America!

excellent plan .......2005-03-28
OK, so I am going against eveything I believe in and writing a review for a book I have not read. However, I was able to meet Jay Cooper in real life at the Green Valley Spa several years ago + was lucky enough to have him "code" my body + give me suggestions as to what to eat + how to exercise based on his formula + IT WORKS. I have been incorporating many of his suggestions for both eating + working out + have seen great results and also feel like I can maintain this for life. I don't know how easy the book is to fiqure out which type you are objectively...but if you can, I suggest giving it a shot.
A "be- careful" submission..........2002-06-10
This book woos with unique suggestions geared toward four diferent types; one cannot help but feel they're being talked directly to. Some of the methods work in theory, but beware of the example menus! Certain meal plans offer almost no fat. This seems to be an editing goof rather than the author's philosophy. Read the rest of the book and you'll understand.
It makes sense.......2002-03-23
It makes sense. Other metabolism books i read suggested to eat high fat and protein diets, yet I've always had a cholesterol problem. This book told me the types of food other books were recommending were dangerous to my health and suggested the foods that would make sense for me to eat for my body type. I've also lost ten pounds in 1 1/2 months and lowered my cholesterol with the help of this book. I highly recommend it.
Too too vague.......2002-01-04
This book doesn't work for everyone, that being me. It gives solid advice for general healthy eating, but the premise isn't watertight--there aren't four body types in reality. I didn't lose weight on this diet because I tried it several times (with lapses in between), each time failing. Why? I was unable to properly diagnose myself. Cooper mentions that there are sometimes "mixed types", types which do not quite correspond to any of the four. Great, just great. Check on the website--he mentions that also, and when you're a mixed type, that's a whole new ballpark. If you do manage to be one of the four, you are in luck. But then, there's those like me who aren't and we're unable to really use the book. It's a pity--Cooper's prose is not condescending and is in fact very reader-friendly. Give it a go, but make sure you can return it if it doesn't quite pan out.

I bought this book after I rented it from the library, and long story short, it flew off the top of my car onto the highway. So I bought it to replace the one I broke. After that I kind of lost interest in reading it. I followed the plan for a while but saw no changes in my body so I gave up. Maybe too soon.

I'm in the process of building a second location (salonspa) and this book had the most amazing pictures and the visual of the blueprints gave me such a different perspective of things that I had not even thought about. I love this book it was well worth the price.

what I needed to know.......2007-08-22
This book was an excellent resource for the designer looking to work with swimming pools. The ilustrated examples and artistic tips were an invauable inspiration for sparking the imagination when designing pools. Before reading this I did think of pools as slabs of concrete filled with water, but I believe this book has put far down the path of being able to design elegant swimming pools. I consider this a must read for any architectural designer.
Not a great source for landscaping ideas.......2005-08-09
Based on the description, I believed this book would be full of design ideas and photos of well-landscaped pools. It isn't. If you are looking (as I was) for examples to show a landscaper (or to do it yourself), you should look elsewhere.
Not so good.......2005-04-29
This is one of the not so good books for pools like many many others. I don't know may be it is too hard to write for pools. There are inside some pictures but nothing to catch the eye neither spectacular. THis book was suppouse to guide you how to create your own pool but I have see much better books!
So if you are going to spend money to build a pool keep on searching for another book!
Covers swimming pool decor and appropriate landscaping.......2004-03-04

Pool Scaping is a lovely guide which covers the specifics of plants in a water surrounding.
Professional and to the point.......2003-10-15
The writer starts out with "Swimming pools have come a long way from the turquoise water holes surrounded by stark paving. Increasingly pools are being integrated into the design of the house and garden..."
I'm happy to see a book on this topic, especially one written by an accomplished writer and photographer. Many garden swimming pools stand out like a sore thumb - a harsh rectangle of Hollywood blue water with cold tile edges. They're lovely and cool in hot weather, but UGLY. Anything that helps to change or disguise this is all good.
The writer has many suggestions for doing just this. She addresses in depth topics such as decking, enclosures, structures, furniture and plantings. She has researched and offers suggestions for problems such as awkward rocky sites and the need to have an enclosure around the pool that doesn't block the view or make the place look like a prison.
It was good to see a generous number of pages given to plants and plantings - everything from container planting to landscaping the entire site. The writer also focuses on planning ahead when installing a pool or landscaping around it, and on matters relating to the budget. Both are very important and often overlooked..
The writer obviously has an encyclopedic knowledge of her topic and her writing is crisp and to-the-point. She understands the issues facing people who want to integrate their pool into their garden and addresses them directly. Her photographs illustrate her points with relevance and clarity. I'd recommend this book to anyone trying to add some style and class to a garden with a swimming pool.
