Good choice.......2007-01-20
We got this book for our 5 year old that always wants to help in the kitchen. She loves to help make the choice and then cook it up. So far, so good!
My kids LOVE this book.......2007-01-09
I bought this for my step kids for our weekly "kids cook night". There are lots of fun things for them to make but there aren't a ton of dinner dishes in here.
For kids only, not the adults.......2007-01-06
This is a good basic, and I mean basic cookbook to get the kids involved, but I wouldnt use it daily. Its too simple for the average cook. I would not pay more than what Amazon wants though.

Book Description
Finger food is made to be shared with friends, but with an emphasis on simplicity and taste. Fresh ingredients create Eastern treats from dim sum to sushi; a cool plate of antipasto is perfect for a summer lunch; and simple but mouthwatering tapas and meze can be passed around at a party. With over 600 full-color photographs, we see that finger food can be exciting and a bit risky -- even the most cautious will try a new taste sensation if it's only one bite! But, there is one thing that all finger food should be -- utterly irresistible.

I love this book; had I not married my husband, I would want to marry it. .......2007-01-31
Yes, it's quirky (read: British-oriented with all the cute spelling and different names for food items), but the recipes are grouped usefully, the recipes look delicious and not painstaking to prepare, and the recipes also are not of food that's too esoteric to get ahold of at a good supermarket, for the most part.
There is lots of useful, practical information on hosting a party, including etiquette tips. And what is especially useful is the VARIETY of types of parties/occasions/celebrations this book provides pertinent information on.
Also, the presentatin is fabulous with great pictures, diagrams, etc.
If you ever want to host a party --be it a gala for 100+ or yummy snacks for friends on Oscar night or an intimate picnic....BUY THIS BOOK!

Preschoolers top book - A must for a home library too........2006-12-28
This story is cute - My daugher at age 4 at the time was in preschool and daily and I mean daily the boys would get this book prior to the girls getting it so it was a game every day to see who could obtain this book first...they never fought over any book but this one and the library had lots of books to choose from....anyways the girls and boys were fighting and pulling on the book one day that the book got ripped and the teachers had - really had enough of that book at that point and threw it away to teach the children a hard lesson in life.....meanwhile I had no idea as to what the teachers had done except for the fact that my daughter and her best friend came home crying that the book with the elephant and the peanuts got thrown out and why? the full explanation was there by them and they were devastasted..thinking that my child ripped a book so badly I immediatly went to Amazon and ordered it and sent it in with the two girls one day - the teachers look on their faces were priceless....every year both preschool classes always fought over the book and they were happy to finally get rid of a book that was always fought over ....and here we were bringing a new copy back....it was priceless an another year childrens will still be able to fight over it...tee-hee....I bought one for home and my daughters best friend....so now it is not a big deal if the boys get it right? We have our own copy....must have book really cute and the graphics are adorable.
My 2 1/2 year old doesn't stop asking for this one!.......2001-08-16
My 2 1/2 year old daughter LOVES this book. Every night before we go to bed, she asks to read "Peanut butter, Peanut butter". She's already learned the rhymes, I say a part, and she knows when she needs to chime in! I also love Nadine Bernard Westcott's illustrations -- I've begun to search for and buy all of her books! Truly enjoyable for both the child and the adult!!
My five year old loves this book and can read it!.......1998-12-02
I had to buy this book because my five year old daughter keeps checking it out of the library. When I told her she had to check out another book this week she said, "Why, Mom? This is a GREAT book!" That is definitely one to have on our shelf. The pictures are delightful and the repetitive phrasing makes it easy to read yet there are some tough words which she has mastered because she knows the phrasing. I wish every book I purchased would pay off so well. She also said, "Mom, if you look at the pictures you just have to giggle."

Product Description
A hilarious dining experience with Lily and her little brother, Max! This funny and charming tale answers that age-old question that every kid has - why do you always have to say please? Lily is the mature, wise older sibling - at the ripe old age of eight! So, naturally, it's up to her to show her little brother, Max, the ropes of restaurant manners. What ensues is a delightfully humorous restaurant experience. Cleverly written, with quirky, eye-catching illustrations, Chicken Fingers will be on every kid's must-read list!
Customer Reviews:
Great Book!.......2007-02-03
This is a great book for parents wanting to teach their kids manners before going out to eat. If only all kids behaved this well!
MY 4 year old daugher LOVES this book.......2006-09-22
My daughter absolutely loves this book. I don't know that it has actually changed her behaviour, but considering it's a book for learning, she loves it. I think it's the illustrations that are particularly inviting and that she relates to. I think she likes to see all the silly things that Max does. I love the oddball sense of rhyming and the brilliant use of colour in the otherwise black and white drawings. And, it makes you feel like you are teaching them imporant lessons.
I wish.......2005-09-20
I wish parents would read this book before taking their children out to dinner in a restaurant. There is nothing worse than having to deal with a disruptive child who is not yours. The advise in the book comes in a knowing, gentle way from an "older" sib to her younger brother. If we can't have the perfect child train the young one, then this book will do the job. It would be great if the book were handed out with menue's at any restaurant!
Manners, Manners! So Important!.......2005-09-07
This book is geared to our little ones and makes learning manners fun and easy! The message is delivered in rhyme and simple colors that really appeal to my grandchildren. I recommend it to anyone who wants to find an easy way to teach their children how to behave when dining out - and at home!
Chicken Fingers, Mac and Cheese...Why do you Always Have to Say Please?.......2005-09-07
Both of my young children, who are both under the age of 5, and both learning their table manners, thoroughly enjoyed this book! The clever rhymes and cute references really helped in the teaching of why it's important to be polite while eating. I recommend this book to any parent who is looking for a good story to read to their kids, or who has a young child just learning to read. It's fun, yet teaches good lessons.

You Wouldn't Want to Be Sick in the 16th Century! (You Wouldn't Want to...)
ASIN: 0689851006 |
Book Description
Stone Age people invented the first knives...and also the first spoons.
In the Middle Ages the first books of manners told readers to wipe their greasy fingers on the tablecloth. And in 1669 King Louis XIV ordered that table knives should have rounded ends because there'd been too many stabbings.
In What You Never Knew About Fingers, Forks, & Chopsticks, Patricia Lauber and John Manders serve up a hilarious and informative look at how ways of eating and manners have changed through the ages. This well-researched tour of social history makes the subject of how we eat more fascinating and fun than you ever imagined it could be.
Customer Reviews:
Taught me a thing or two!.......2001-12-28
I did not realize the history of eating utensils was so interesting. I did become intrigued when I lived in Thailand and learned to eat their way with a fork and spoon or watched Europeans with their forks and knives. I am still not good at eating sticky rice and accompanying dishes with my hand. My favorite situation was watching Thais describe the way Chinese eat with chopsticks. The Thai think that the way Chinese eat is barbaric. Little do they know that most Americans think they eat with chopsticks too!
Gave my kids a new appreciation for utensils.......2001-08-19
This book takes a humorous, illustrated look at the history of eating habits. It educates, while simultaneously poking fun at ancient and modern affectations associated with the dinner table. It starts and ends with a primitive family who are just beginning to make use of fire.
It gives brief descriptions of eating customs and utensils in different cultures over the centuries. The evolving dining and feasting customs of medeval Europe are particularly amusing. Children will have a new appreciation for their spoons, knives and even forks after reading the author's amusing take on their introduction into our popular use.
This is a book that was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone in our family--from the six-year-old to the adults.

The Cocktail Party 911 Book.......2006-01-10
With fifteen years of beverage catering all over the world under my belt, I can assure anybody considering this book: buy it! Planning parties always involves lots of stressful details, calculations, planning, and organization that make the process a headache rather than a joy. This book does the opposite, thankfully. Miss Charming helps anybody from a pro to a home enthusiast handle everything without forgetting about the fun and creativity that every cocktail party should have. It's a fun, easy read packed with useful information including resources, recipes, and helpful hints. The recipes are great and well-written, unlike most cocktail recipe books which confuse even the most seasoned bartender with vague procedures and obscure ingredients and feature lots of unpleasant recipes that nobody drinks these days. Not this one: Cheryl explains in plain english every delicious recipe so your cocktails come out perfect. The hints and tips she provides are worth the price of the book alone. (Do YOU know how much ice you need for a party of 100 people? This book tells you!) This is the book that will save your next party and make you look like a genius. I have two copies... one on the bookshelf and one for reference I keep with my catering gear. Cheryl is the Martha Stewart of the bartending world.
The Everything Cocktail Parties & Drinks Book.......2005-12-24
What a great party handbook! This very handy party planner is easy to follow and contains lots of recipes for cocktails both alcoholic and virgin. Ms Charming includes in her manual many recipes and suggest the perfect cocktails to accompany. She gives you thematic ideas and tells you how much to buy for your party. Lots of bang for your buck.
EVERYTHING is right!!!.......2005-12-23
This book tells you like it is.......it takes a lot to put together a great party. But this book makes it feel very easy. Great guide and quick ideas that will work whether it's for drinks or food. The Martini names alone are worth having this book. Noone will forget these cocktails. Another unique creation from Cheryl Charming!!

In this bouncy, vibrant story of a mother rabbit and her baby, the rich, inventive language these two share is the secret to dinnertime success. "Tickle Tickle Tum Tum, bidda bidda boo, lotsa super dooper stew just for you," sings Mama Rabbit as she brings on the supper plate. Because the author believes that mealtime should be fun rather than frustrating, she's incorporated some classic meal games into a series of fresh, entertaining rhyme songs. Catchy little nonsense verses about choo-choo trains, dump trucks, and even a little swooping bird help open reluctant little mouths and put a smile on otherwise grumpy faces. After dinner, more comforting verses soothe the way to bed.
This is an engaging volume for small children just becoming interested in books. Bright, expressive full-page illustrations of wild and splattery meal messes, cats chasing dropped peas, and a winning little rabbit provide lots of visual appeal. The silly, easy-to-memorize rhymes and liberal use of alliteration not only entertain but also encourage the development of language skills. (Baby to age 3) --Marianne Painter

Customer Reviews:
The perfect Mealtime or Night-time book!.......2004-11-21
This has become our official night-time book. Before bed every night, my wife and I bring our little one to our bed and read him the story. He loves the rhymes, and loves the pictures...especially the pouncing Kitty Cat! It is NOT very long, but just long enough to make our son's eyelids a little heavy. By the time we read the last verse, He is 100% ready to be brought to his crib.
A fantastic book for parents (short & fast) and babies (rhymes & fun pictures).
great mealtime fun.......2002-05-04
This adorable book is full of short, fun rhymes centered around mealtime and eating. We checked this book out from our local library, and will probably purchase it because it's become such a hit. My 15 month old loves for me to repeat the rhymes while she is eating - her favorite is "Here comes Mama bird, watch her glide --- swoop down to baby bird, open wide". Don't miss the "extra" rhyme which the author describes inside the front cover - it's not illustrated, but it's alot of fun as well.

This installment, the Book of Finger Foods, starts with a brief introduction into the choice of party food and its planning, quantities, preparation, presentation and accompanying drinks, and then presents recipe suggestions for all party food in all varieties, from quick and easy recipes to cheese and dessert. Special chapters are dedicated to egg, seafood, poultry, (red) meat and vegetable recipes. Classics such as baked new potatoes and potato wedges, baked camembert, won tons, Maryland crab cakes, mini chicken tikka, mini pizzas, cheese and onion tartlets, roesti and shrimp toasts appear next to unique dishes such as cheese and watercress puffs, lime tartlets, nut and coffee meringues, sticky chicken lollipops, and walnut bread with ham and salsa.
From Arnold Bennett slices and artichoke frittata to zucchini drops, this collection of recipes, while not all-encompassing, is a great introduction to the endless possibilities of dishing it up at a party - and at a bargain price, to boot.
