Great book for kids and parents!.......2007-08-31
I love this book! I bought it for my 3 kids, ages 3-7. My daughter immediatley picked out recipes to make for the weekend. The book itself is a spiral book, so it lies on the counter nicely to read from while cooking. Every single recipe has a photo, which is great!! We have such a blast making recipes together. Besides kids learning to cook and use utensils, it is a perfect way to bond with your children. I highly recommend this book!
Not to early to start kids in the kitchen.......2007-02-22
Gave this to a young child who loves being in the kitchen with mom!
Great gift
Practical cookbook.......2007-01-16
After looking at several cookbooks geared to children, I selected this one because it was in a format similar to an adult cookbook, had excellent photographs and recipes to make fun food. It was laid out in a orderly manner, whereas other cookbooks for children were not.
Kids cookbook.......2007-01-15
This book is nice but however, I was hoping it would have more basic things to make. Has a good section for themed parties and holidays etc. Alot of the items are specialty items not everyday food to make.
Mom & Kid Tested, Both Approved.......2007-01-06
I taught both my sons to cook before they left for college. My daughter-in-law is not a cook. I thought my seven year-old grandson needs to learn to cook if he is to eat much more than something from the drive thru. This was his Christmas present. Both mom and son looked thru the book and selected dishes they each wanted to prepare. They made their grocery list, went shopping for the ingredients, and prepared their dishes. So far, everyone involved is very pleased with the results and proud of their efforts. I'm told everyone in the family likes the cookbook because it can be used by cooks of different ages and different skills levels. Thank you, Pillsbury!!

Great food, but accurate?.......2007-05-08
I've had this book forever.
I cooked out of it for years and then in my last move, lost the book. I came across it again recently. With me being on weight watchers, the nutritional information is really handy....or is it? I have found several of the recipies to be way under the actual calories and fat.
It's still a really awesome little book, but if you are concerned about the nutritional information, you may want to double check the values.
My new favorite cookbook!.......2006-12-10
After searching long and hard for a quick and healthy cookbook, I purchased this one. This pillsbury cookbook is just what it states; "fast and healthy". However, it is so much more! First of all I love all the pictures. As a somewhat inexperienced cook, I really like to know how something is going to look before I make it. Once I discovered how delicious and easy the recipes were, I ventured into making the non-pictured recipes as well. And to my delight, they turned out great!
Another thing that I like about this book is that each recipe doesn't have a million ingredients listed nor are the ingredients weird or difficult to find in the stores. I have found almost everything I needed in Walmart Supercenter which is where I do the majority of my shopping.
Finally, this book is different from other "healthy" cookbooks out there in that the recipes are not only healthy, but they have some actual "taste" to them as well. Sometimes I forget that I'm actually eating a low-fat meal!
I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to keep their diet under control but does not want to spend all day in the kitchen slaving over the stove!
Fast, Healthy, Delicious...and You'll Shed a Few Pounds Too!.......2003-07-24
I have owned this book for several months now but not until recently have I taken it out and actually used some of the recipes. Well actually, I have taken up Weight Watchers again and I was looking for some recipes that wouldn't remind me that I was dieting. I just finished a Garden-Fresh Tuna Salad Sandwich (4 points) that was just packed with flavor with just a scant 3 grams of fat. The photograph of the sandwich is what caught my eye and that is one of the big selling points of this and other Pillsbury cookbooks.
The book begins with a comprehensive discussion called, 'A Guide to Healthier Eating'. Here you will find information about the soon to be amended Food Pyramid and just what is meant by a 'serving'. The authors then give the reader the 'Seven Steps to a Healthy Diet' which include suggestions for improving your food intake. Additionally, there is a glossary of health and food-related terms, some suggestions for using the nutritional information included in the book and some suggested menus combining some of the recipes.
Like many cookbooks, Fast and Healthy covers the culinary experience from Appetizers to Desserts. Aside from the many beautiful photos, the book is replete with many sidebars. These give the user tips that will enhance not only the recipe, but the expertise of the cook as well. Nutritional information for each recipe is provided and dietary exchanges for diabetics are also included. Weight Watchers clients like myself can easily calculate the Winning Points from the information provided and most of the recipes will fall into weight loss plans. For the chocolate lover, who can resist Cocoa Mocha Brownies or Double Chocolate Chip Cookies....two and one point respectively???
As you can tell, I like this book. I am a big fan of Pillsbury's cookbooks and this one is going to be a good friend over the next three months...and well beyond!
NO LOW FAT COOKING FOR ME!!.......2003-04-05
Why do you keep inserting low fat and diet books into my lifestyles and favorites???? That's a real no-no for a fat man who enjoys his food and is happy being fat!
A must buy for the busy new cook.......2003-02-25
This book is a must buy for the new cook who wants to make GREAT meals that are also FAST and HEALTHY. This book has changed my family's life, we use it every time we cook to make a delicious meal that anyone in the house can make in minutes. Move over Betty Crocker, Pillsbury is in the house!
Book Description
For almost fifty years, people have looked to one cooking contest for the most delicious, the most exciting and the most uniquely American recipes this country's home cooks have to offer. The Pillsbury Bake-Off(r) Contest presents the very best of what people are cooking today for their family and friends-for everyday dinners, special occasion desserts and mouthwatering breads. Now, for the very first time, more than 350 of the most sought after prize-winning recipes from this famed cooking contest are gathered in one book, complete with gorgeous color photographs and stories about the people and the inspiration that led to their award-winning recipes.
But the Bake-Off(r) Contest is about more than just baking. . . certainly dessert time has never been the same since the introduction of Magic Marshmallow Crescent Puffs, Chocolate Silk Pecan Pie and the Tunnel of Fudge Cake, which became a household name in 1966. The Bake-Off(r) is also about wonderful savory dishes, such as Cowboy Steak 'n Veggie Soup, Grilled Chicken and Mango Corn Salad, Italian Zucchini Crescent Pie and the now-famous California Casserole, which captured the Grand Prize in 1956 and won its creator, Margaret Hatheway, a cook's tour abroad, where she introduced this most American of dishes to chefs all across Europe.
Best of the Bake-Off(r) Cookbook is a sweet and savory record of how American cooking has evolved over the years, illustrating how home cooks have captured their ethnic heritages in dishes adapted from their grandparents' countries to modern kitchens and busier times. The stories are as inspiring as the recipes themselves, from 1955 winner Rosemary Sport's prize-a new pink range-which provided her family with the motivation to become proud new homeowners to 1996's Grand Prize-winner, Kurt Wait, a single parent, who with the help of his son developed his $1 million-winning recipe Macadamia Fudge Torte.
Hundreds of the very best recipes are accompanied by enticing color photographs and organized by category: Soups, Sandwiches and Snacks; Main Dishes; Side Dishes and Salads; Breads; Sweet Rolls and Coffee Cakes; Cookies and Bars; Cakes and Tortes; Pies and Tarts; and Other Desserts. Each chapter is filled with personal profiles highlighting the people who created the recipes plus the wonderful and oftentimes humorous behind-the-scenes stories from the Bake-Off(r) Contest events: One contestant accidentally sat on her cake entry; another was notified that she was a lucky contestant via a citizens-band message broadcast by her town's postmistress.
The recipes are sensational, the stories are uplifting.
Best of the Bake-Off(r) Cookbook invites you into the kitchens and lives of the many people who over the years have made the Pillsbury Bake-Off(r) Contest the most loved, most respected showplace for this country's home cooks.

A Winning Cookbook (almost) of Winning Recipes.......2004-10-06
The best part of this cook book is that the recipes were not created by culinary professionals or famous chefs. The cooks were ordinary people creating put-together recipes requiring no special talents, abilities, or ingredients. On the other hand, some of the recipes make one cringe just by reading them; since they are all contest winners, perhaps they taste better than they seem to appear in print. On the whole, however, it is a collection of (mostly) very good and easy to do recipes for the home baker. This book is a glossy affair full of color photos; it is a shame that the person responsible for the format did not also think of arranging the recipes within each chapter, or supplying a list of recipes for each chapter.
The Pillsbury Flour company has been sponsoring a famous baking and cooking competition for many decades, and this book is a compilation of some of the very best of the winners. Some baking classics came from this contest: French Silk Pie, Tunnel of Fudge, Thumbprint Cookies, Upside Down Cake. The ingenuity and thoughfullness of the amateur cooks often out-shine their professional counterparts, of course they tend to do things like use instant mashed potato flakes (do they still make them? I have not seen them since I was a teenager) and canned vegetables. Many recipes include the ingenious use of store-bought components, like canned biscuit dough, cake mixes, and instant puddings; the flavors were often quite good. I tried some of the more odd recipes, but did not have any problems with any of the recipes, although I was not always happy with the flavor or texture. Most of the recipes were very easy to do, and none required special or sophisticated skills, which is the most valuable part of this cookbook. One interesting factor is that despite the fact that each recipe was by a different person, all recipes seem to have been standardized on one, consistent flour measurement (spoon and sweep).
The first three chapters (appetizers, main dishes, side dishes) were the least inspiring; I do not think I did more than a couple of recipes out of these parts. The chapter on breads was rather ordinary, but the one for sweet rolls and coffee cakes was quite good. The cookies were OK. The cakes were extraordinary, the pies were OK. The last chapter was a hotch-potch of recipes that did not fit anywhere else.
In summary, this is a valuable cook book to have on your book shelf for those occassions when you have many hungry people at your table and you just need to throw together something decent, or you just do not have the time or inclination to do anything else.
Innovative Recipes; Delicious Results!.......2003-12-27
Over the years I have often turned to Pillsbury Bake-Off recipes for innovative appetizers, meals and desserts. I was happily surprised to discover that this cookbook, of over 350 award-winning recipes from the Bake-Off contests, had been published. I bought it recently and have not been disappointed.
It is true that many of the recipes call for prepackaged or convenience foods. However, the time saved in preparation and the wonderful tasting results prove that, sometimes, the ends justify the means.
Some of my favorites include: Corn and Pumpkin Soup with Jalapeno Pesto, White Chile with Salsa Verde, Creamy Spinach and Tortellini; Grilled Chicken and Mango Corn Salad, Crafty Crescent Lasagna, Salsa Couscous Chicken, California Casserole, Chewy Peanut Brownie Bars, Lemon Meringue Dessert Squares...and I could go on and on.
The photographs are beautiful and illustrate the finished product, as well as provide some attractive serving ideas. The step-by-step instructions are easy to follow. "Best Of The Bake-Off" also provides a hands-on history of the evolution of American cooking over the last 50+ years, with short spotlight stories about many of the Bake-Off winners. This fun and easy-to-use cookbook is, in and of itself, a real prize-winner!!

Bake with the Best!.......2003-07-02
Paging through this cookbook is always a bit of an adventure and promises to yield a delicious dish for just about every occasion. Whether you are looking for a dessert (some of the best recipes in this book are for desserts) or for a main dish, there is something for everyone in this book.
Some of my family's favorites include Creamy Broccoli and Rice Soup, Savory Crescent Chicken Squares, and Ramen Vegetable Beef Stir-Fry. Our favorite goodies include Caramel-Filled Chocolate Cookies, Pecan Pie Surprise Bars, Raspberry Filled White Chocolate Bars, Caramel Apple Cake, Peanut Butter Crunch Cake, and Cookie Cheesecake Squares.
I have used this cookbook on many occasions and although I love the recipes, I wish that the book was in a binder instead of a hardcover book. Also, I tend to like cookbooks with more pictures, but I felt that the stories that were included about many of the winners was an excellent addition to this book. Overall, I highly enjoy trying many of these recipes and I feel it is an excellent addition to any cookbook collection. Enjoy!
A fun book with a few gems.......2003-06-02
I like this book. Whether you will too depends on what kind of cook you are.
From my point of view (though many think differently) the weakness of this book is the large proportion of recipes based on processed foods. Of the 366 recipes in the book, 57 of them call for Pillsbury crescent rolls or refrigerated biscuits - especially unappealing because of the hydrogenated oils. Almost every soup recipe is made with canned goods and most of the entrees call for packaged foods. Of 46 cake recipes, 26 are based on packaged mixes. The desserts also tend to be quite sweet.
However, there are a number of good, from scratch recipes included in this collection. The Whole Wheat Raisin Loaf, Ring-a-Ling sweet rolls and the Nutty Graham Picnic Cake are excellent. The Tiramisu-Toffee Torte was also a winner when made with a from-scratch white cake rather than a mix. There are quite a few more interesting recipes I have yet to try.
In sum, if you embrace packaged foods in all their convenient glory, you'll love this book. Even if you don't use convenience products, there's still a lot to like here. Go ahead and give it a try, but don't buy it as your only baking book. However, if you are really a purist, buy another book.
Useful and diverse recipes!.......2001-08-28
This is one of those cookbooks that you can leisurely browse through and discover and rescover many great recipes. There is a nice variety here. All have clear, easy to follow instructions. The brownies on the cover turned out beautifully. That is a complicated recipe, but it is broken into simple steps. Any level chef would enjoy concocting these creative recipes! I also had fun learning about the history of this famous bake-off. This cookbook is a nice addition to any kitchen!

an excellent investment!.......2006-12-12
I bought this book when I got married in an effort to help my husband and I support a more healthy lifestyle (ok, we wanted to lose some weight!). This book has by far exceeded my expectations--i use it at least three to four times a week!
the highlights:
-meals that truly can be prepared quickly
-"normal" ingredients that I can find at a regular grocery store and won't sit in my fridge for months after using them once
-truly tasty recipes that rarely taste "lowfat"
-a wide variety of recipes with a multitude of flavors and tastes that suit both the adventureous eater or a more conservative palate.
-directions that are easy to follow with helpful information sidebars. Even you 'non-cooks' out there can use this book!
-It lists nutrition info with each recipe, so you know exactly how many calories and how much fat you're taking in with each dish.
The book is divided into sections for each type of food (ie chicken, fish, breads, etc), and it has a pretty good index in the back so it is easy to find things.
The only thing I would do different is that the entrees don't list suggestions for sides, which would be helpful for those of us who don't have an intuition for that sort of thing.
A book that does do this is "Make it in Minutes", a book by weight watchers that is my second favorite cookbook. Ignore the WW thing, and pick this book up too. It has some great recipes as well!
Great Cookbook, Easy to Use.......2006-11-01
I was very satisfied with this cookbook that I saw in a bookstore but got on Amazon for half the price.
So far I have made 3 of the recipes (the ratatouille stew, tuna sandwiches, and salmon with leeks) and they have all been delicious. They were also easy to make and the ingredients were not hard to find or expensive.
The recipes are healthy while still having lots of flavor, so your family will likely enjoy them.
The only thing I might object to would be the use of some artificial or highly processed ingredients (like canned salmon or some prepackaged foods), but these wouldn't be hard to replace. It just might require a little extra time, but if you prefer to eat natural/organic foods, these recipes could be easily modified.
I would definitely recommend this cookbook.
EASY AND YUMMY.......2006-05-12
This cookbook has it all! Normal recipes, easy to follow large print, beautiful glossy pictures and pages, and nutrional information. It tells you to use yogurts etc instead of sour cream and healthier versions of cooking. It has general calorie information for foods, and general cooking tips and suggestions for things you can throw into the recipe if you have leftovers. Something I have never seen before. It has tips on how to spot good produce and the right cuts of meats. I can never seem to find recipes in other books I have bought that I would actually use, but I have used this book several times. I have made the meatloaf several times, and everytime my family loves it. I like it because it tells you that you can use breadcrumbs or smashed crackers as I stated above, it gives options in the recipe, with tips above the recipe. Most cookbooks don't do that. I would reccommend this to a beginner or a parent that doesn't want to spend a lot of time in the kitchen after a long day at work, like me.
Wonderful Cookbook!!!!.......2006-02-08
I have only had this cookbook for a week but I have used it every night for dinner. The recipes are delicious and so easy to make. I have been searching for a low fat, fast, and easy cookbook that included nutritional information for a long time! I love that it tells you ALL the nutritional info, not just calories. The pictures seem to be a true representation of what you end up cooking. My husband and my 3 year old have been very pleased with the past several dinners. I'm happy because most of the recipes take less than 30 minutes to prepare. I know I will enjoy this cookbook for a very long time. It is a must have!!!
Excellent Cookbook.......2005-08-23
When I first bought this book I didn't utilize it as much as I should have. Now that I have become more driven to eat healthier but don't want to spend much time in the kitchen I find this book to be extremely useful. It's full of big full color pages of the finished product, easy recipe instructions, and even comes with a section in the beginning explaining the food pyramid and portion sizes. I thought with the name "Pillsbury" it would call for some of it's own products like those "grands" rolls and other fattening products they sell but I haven't seen that anywhere in the cookbook. Just healthy foods that you probably have onhand or at least should already have in your fridge and pantry. All in all I'm finding it to be a wonderful resource in the kitchen. My husband even recently looked through it and thought he ought to be able to cook up some things from this book since they looked simple enough.

Another Classic From Pillsbury.......2003-05-04
I have subscribed to Pillsbury's Classic Cookbooks since 1994. Suffice it to say that I am a big fan of this series and I have kept every issue with the exception of the ones that were lost. When I got a card from Pillsbury announcing the publication of this collection of favorites from the magazines, I ordered it immediately.
Several things that make the Pillsbury books and this one in particular, great, are: 1. The recipes don't have a lot of ingredients or things that aren't readily available, 2. They appeal to a lot of cooking tastes, and 3. They are absolutely delicious. I love soup and the Harvest Chicken Noodle Soup and the Light Chicken-Wild Rice Soups are both favorites. The Poultry section, another favorite, provides delights such as Easy Jerk Chicken, Honey Mustard Chicken, and a scrumptious Twenty-Garlic Chicken Dinner.
As for the layout of the book, you will be pleased. Nutritional information is provided for each recipe so people watching calories or fat intake will know if the recipe fits their plan. For many recipes, there are 'Cook's Notes' which offer suggestions for attaining the best results. The photos, and there are many, will make you salivate. There is even a special section at the end entitled Holiday Specialties, and this provides the reader with recipes for salads, appetizers, side dishes, main courses and desserts that will work for a variety of holiday traditions.
Bottom line: Buy the book! It will be a keeper and you'll love the results.
CAN'T BEAT A CLASSIC !.......2001-12-31
When it comes to cooking, there is no finer cookbook than one by Pillsbury, and no, I have no relatives who work for Pillsbury, nor do I own any shares in the company! The recipes are just plain, down-to-Earth, nutritious old-fashioned meals with a fantastic taste, and I cherish each of my Pillsbury cookbooks dearly. This is one of my all-time favourites, second only to Pillsbury One-Dish-Meals Cookbook, which comes in at the top of my list. In the Classic Cookbook the reader will find just about anything and everything that was ever on their meal planner. There are recipes containing all the common varieties of meats, veggie dishes, soups, stews, sandwiches, breads - you name it, it's all here in one cookbook. The illustrations are great and the endless number of notes, tips and suggestions found in the book are a terrific plus when it comes to planning and preparing your meal. This is a very complete coobook and would make an excellent gift for those who are just beginning their experience in the kitchen. If you have a son or daughter spreading their wings and leaving for their own nest, make sure you tuck this top-notch cookbook under their arm on their way out the door. The book contains 275 recipes, and found among the pages are some great, easy-to-prepare meals at affordable prices!
One of the best basic cookbooks.......2001-05-13
Having checked out the book at my local library I know this will be one of my most used cookbooks. As is the case with all of the mini-Pillsbury books I've picked up at the grocery store, this book has easy tasty meals, lots of variety, excellent nutrition information, all of the things I want in a day-to-day cookbook. I've never made a Pillbury recipe that I didn't like, most of them become "old stand-bys" in my kitchen. Good food for everyday meals to casual entertaining.

My favorite cookbook.......2007-05-16
Our family likes to try new recipes often and this cookbook is my favorite for several reasons. There are lots of color pictures throughout the book. Every recipe I've tried has clear instructions and the food turned out the way it was suppose to each time. And the introduction explains that all the recipes in this book have all been tested in the pillsbury test kitchens and were good enough to compete in the Bake-off contest which gives me some confidence to spend the money on ingredients and try them out. Some of my family's favorites so far are Thai Curry Chicken and Vegetables, Sherried Mushroom Bisque, Chicken-Chile Stromboli, Cheddar Thyme Casserole Bread (Don't over heat the buttermilk), Smoked Turkey Quesadillas, and White Chocolate Raspberry Torte.
Bake with the Best!.......2006-06-04
Paging through this cookbook is always a bit of an adventure and promises to yield a delicious dish for just about every occasion. Whether you are looking for a dessert (some of the best recipes in this book are for desserts) or for a main dish, there is something for everyone in this book.

Enjoy!

Pillsbury Kitchens' Cookbook is the best I have seen in 20 years. Not only are the pictures appetizing but the directions are easy to follow. Ingredients are readily available and the ringed binder allows the pages to lay flat. This book would make an excellent gift for someone needing help with all the basic recipes that are used year after year. The tabbed pages are a great help in finding recipes in a hurry. The variety in the 16 food categories is amazing. I haven't had a bad recipe yet from this book. Thanks Pillsbury for many years of good eating!

Gift giving.......2007-01-18
Purchased this as a gift for my aunt, and she absolutely loved it. Pages are simple to read this pictures through out and worth the money.
Reliable usually, but in other ways lackluster.......2006-01-11
This little book is pretty handy, it contains most of the classic American recipes in simple to follow directions. Generally speaking, I use the baking section of this the most.
Pros: lighweight, portable. The recipes contain familiar classics. The stuff I've made from the breads and morning pastries section have been pretty delicious. There's an informative handling/storage preface for many recipes.
Cons: the small format makes it difficult for the book to prop open, and its width makes it too small for most recipe bookstands, quite annoying when cooking and reading at the same time. There are no pics, though it's not a major problem with a book like this. Many of the baking recipes will need more milk than the recipe suggests, and the muffin recipes often don't contain enough batter to fill the 12 cups it says. The other recipes are reliable, but nothing here can be considered innovative or even modern in taste. There's definitely a preponderance of meat-and-bread recipes here, with the vegetables stucked all the way in the back, and most of recipes call more for sauce than vegetables themselves.
Overall, I think this could be a handy reference for a very occasional cook. Personally I think with the overwhelming number of cookbooks in the market today, there is no real reason to pick this book (I got mine for free, so can't complain). For those seeking traditional American dishes, the William-Sonoma series have far better book recipes and pictures, and anyone slighty more serious about cooking will find excellent companion in Joy of cooking.
A Must Have for Every Homemaker!!!.......2005-03-07
I bought this cookbook (the huge one in the binder) in September of 1989 for my 18th birthday. I had just moved out two months before after graduating from high school and gotten my own apartment. (This is back when kids didn't live at home until they were 28 - we wanted to be on our own!!)
I didn't have any cookbooks and I grew up with a mother who cooked from scratch and large Italian grandmothers and aunts who made all the classics that I wanted to know how to make, in case I ever got married and needed to impress people with my cooking and domestic skills. Needless to say, I did get married, and I have used this book more than any other in the 15 years since I bought it. I can't believe I am that far away from 18 years old - holy cow!! My cookbook cover has been taped and many of my hole-punched pages have the little reinforcers on them now, so I know it has been a long time!
It gives you wonderful, reliable classic recipes for everything you could need made from scratch (basic meatloaf, lemon bars, German potato salad, Christmas punch, how to decorate cakes...even a simple wedding cake is in here!!) so you don't have to call your mother or mother-in-law and sound like a bubbly airhead (or get online like we do now to look for recipes but I hate printing and wasting paper and ink because I am a frugal kinda gal).
The most wonderful part is that it shows you how to set a table for formal and informal occassions, how to fold napkins, what do goblets look like and what do you serve in what kind of glass, how to select cuts of meat, every single cut of beef that their is, how to debone chicken breasts, how long to cook each type of vegetable be it oven, stovetop, or microwave, how many pounds of food to serve for how many guests (of course, I double it in my family), how to properly word invitations, how to set up a buffet, where do the plates, the rolls, etc. go, and on and on. It is basically a manual on how to be Donna Reed, June Cleaver, Marian Cunningham and Martha Stewart all rolled into one!!
The lemon bars taste like my mothers, the pot roast, potatoes and carrots come out like my mothers, the chicken cacciatore and Swiss Steak taste like my mothers...her name is Sharon and she will enjoy hearing this...The oven temps and times are correct and the pictures accompanying the recipes are huge and beautiful (this is for the binder edition...I would recommend buying only this as it lays flat on my table as I make my mess).
I use this book with my daughter who is now 14 so that she too can learn to be a domestic diva. It is a Kitchen Bible. Now, don't get me wrong, I hold a Bachelor's and run a business out of my house so I am not a 1950's housewife whose world ends at the front yard, but since I am married to a balding, slightly overweight, 39 y/o Italian man who also likes to eat and have a home cooked meal on Sunday, and we are too cheap to eat takeout, this book stays right on top of my fridge where anyone in the house can easily get to it.
Being the married, slightly overweight Italians that we are with kids and parents, holiday gatherings and parties are a big part of our lives because it is an excuse to get together and eat and be loud whether it is the Christmas Vigil or a backyard barbecue with the husband at the grill and the women making all the side dishes but he gets all the compliments. This cookbook will never fail you. You can have Donna Reed Syndrome and be the envy of your neighbors with this book.
The good thing is that this book offers substitions if you are snowbound. However, this is basic goodness...you will not need to drive two hours to get Extract of Marbled Orange Radicchio for any recipe as all recipes have things you can buy in any regular grocery store.
If you come across a copy of this in a binder, shame on you if you don't buy it! You should give this to every young person in your family starting out, and every older person in your family who's cooking is Blow-Torch City! As for me, I intend to buy more plastic sleeve protectors and each page is going in one before it goes back in the binder, that is how priceless it is!
Would be 5 stars if larger & had photos.......2002-12-10
I didn't realize this is a small, yet thick, paperback style book. I thought it would be a larger soft back style, but didn't read the descriptions close enough. HOWEVER, I've tried a couple of the recipes and they are delicious! I found a new favorite meat loaf recipe along with many new ones I want to try such as muffins & rolls. Nearly every recipe looks yummy; most are your basic recipes any standard Betty Crocker would have, but found I like the Pillsbury variations better. I'd highly recommend getting this, especially since used sells for less .... That is all I paid and it was worth every penny!
The Pillsbury Cookbook.......2001-08-27
I have owned this cookbook for along time now and I have found my best recipes in this book. If I am looking for something new or just my old favorites I always turn to this book. I wish they would reprint it. I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who likes great recipes because it's full of them.

One of the best cookie books I own (and I am a cookie junkie.......2004-02-22
I'm so glad I found this book! Every recipe I tried so far has been spectacular and so tasty that it disappeared in a minute!
The recipes are laid out really well, with clear step by step instructions and lots of reference "tags" to give more information about ingredients or interesting substitutions or even "make it special" suggestions to dress up your creations.
The recipes are really easy, but the results can make people think you spent the whole day in the kitchen. I tried both of the recipes pictured on the cover and they got rave reviews, without being much fuss. And the others were not too difficult either.
The book is divided into sections for rolled, dropped, bar cookies and so on, making it easy to find what you feel like making. There are very nice and yummy pictures of many recipes to give you an idea of the results.
Maybe the only negative thing is that these recipes are all very rich and not good at all if you are counting calories or have health problems, but I guess you are not supposed to make cookies, if you are on a diet :P! They all have nutritional information, though, so at least you can choose the less "sinful" ones.
The sidebars explaining the different ingredients are very informative and can help you with recipes from other books, too, of course.
I tried a few recipes from this book and it has already become a favourite! Highly recommended.
Attention all cookie lovers!.......2000-01-14
Got this book originally at public library and we enjoyed the results so much we decided to purchase. Our daughter used it to make a great selection of Christmas cookies which got rave reviews!
Contains all your favorite cookie recipes!.......1999-07-12
I got this book for Christmas and have been baking ever since. Easy to follow, no-fail recipes along with lots of pictures make this a must have for all those who love to bake. I will definitely pass this book along to my kids.
Excellent!.......1999-06-02
One of my all-time favorite cookbooks! I've made several tasty recipes from here! Great photos, great tastes!
Yummy collection of easy to follow recipes.......1998-07-08
This is one of the finest cookbooks I've ever seen for cookies. The collection is divided into drop, hand-formed, refrigerator, rolled, bars/brownies, holiday and Bake-Off favorite cookies. With an introductory section on "cookie know-how" and margin hints, tips, and information, this collection is not only informative, but a pleasure to thumb through. Most recipes have variations listed immediately after, so if you don't care for ingredients in the basic recipe you are given several suggestions how to tailor it to your liking. Many color photos, easy to follow ingredient lists, numbered steps and nutritional breakdown round out the detail given in this book. A must for any cookie baker.

I needed an infusion of new recipes.......2005-07-11
I ended up with a months worth of dinner ideas from this book, so far, we've had about 17 recipes from the book, and they have all been a hit.
Not for people who like cooking or living long lives.......2005-04-27
Be aware that the recipes in this book are either ridiculously high in fat and/or sodium (and I'm not a low-fat prude by any means) or rely heavily on premade ingredients.
Sample recipe: "Homestyle Chili. Open 3 cans of chili and put them in your slow cooker. Turn it on. Eight hours later, enjoy a delicious home-made chili treat." OK, I'm exaggerating a little. But you get the point.
This book might be acceptable for convenience cooks. Myself, I don't consider a chili recipe a real recipe when one of the ingredients is "canned chili." If you do, maybe this book is for you. Otherwise, there are wayyy better "one dish meal" cookbooks available.
The best cookbook ever.......2004-03-03
The recipes are easy, and tasty with a lot of variety.
Great looking casseroles and one-dish meals.......2003-07-02
I have not yet used any of the recipes in this book but I have
reviewed all of them. The only problem I have with it is that
some people may have to alter the recipes to get rid of some
of the salt and fat. They look absolutely delicious and a book
like this would be used over and over. Pillsbury
cookbooks are my favorites. Their recipes are excellent!
Ok, nothing special.......2003-06-07
I bought this book because I was searching for recipes which I can prepare in advance and leave for my family when I'm away. I have tried a few of the recipes (Bacon Cheeseburger Upside Down Pizza, Baked Ravioli with Meatballs, and a few others)and they have all been good. In other words, my family and I were never displeased with any of the recipes, but they were never excited about any of them either. But we are used to more flavorful dishes since I cook mostly Vietnamese and Mexican dishes. The recipes are really easy to follow though and the pictures are wonderful (most of which looked better than they taste). Overall, the book is great, the recipes are so-so. The dishes in here don't really excite the taste buds, but I'm sure with some experimentation and imagination, anyone can customize them and "kick them up a few notches."
