"Gourmet raw cuisine"--if that sounds like an oxymoron, you'll be amazed by the creativity of the recipes in this book. Every food is "live" (uncooked) in these vegetarian recipes from Juliano, the raw-food guru of Los Angeles. Juliano believes that fruits, vegetables, nuts, grains, beans, and seeds in their rawest and purest form are the most nourishing foods. If your imagination stops at alfalfa sprouts and grated carrots, hold onto your cutting board. Juliano's recipes include Butternut Squash Soup, New Moon Fruit Stew, Thai Green Papaya Salad, Living Buckwheat Pizza Crust, Mango Essene Bread, Mock Salmon Sushi, Raw Spring Rolls, seven varieties of burritos, nine varieties of pizza, and nine unusual smoothies. Desserts? Try EZ Pudding (made with maple syrup, avocados, and carob powder) or Cashew Gelato (cashew butter, maple syrup, and almonds, served frozen). There are also condiments, dressings, and sauces, and plenty of information about preparing raw foods, including how to soak and sprout beans, grains, seeds, and nuts.

It may seem like cheating, but a food dehydrator is permitted to "bake" pizza, cookies, and breads. It blows hot air, but never heats foods hotter than 120°F, which, claims Juliano, "allows all the delicate nutrients that are usually burned out of cooked foods to remain intact." Raw is filled with gorgeous color photos of the foods in all their vibrant colors and a number of photos of the vibrant Juliano (not in the raw). "Before you know it," says Juliano, "you'll be Raw and loving it." --Joan Price

5 out of 5 stars Excellent, life-changing book!.......2007-08-11

I love the recipes in this book, and the photos are not only beautiful, but appetizing! Some recipes, like the one for pumpkin cheese, are just addictive! I ate from this book for weeks and lost a lot of weight, felt energized, and looked great! I wish I lived near one of his restaurants!

5 out of 5 stars A Fun Read, Many Delicious Returns!.......2007-07-01

The book is *beautiful* to look through, and as fun as Miss Piggy's Guide to Life to read. Juliano's humor is much like Frank Oz's! Anyway, this was the first raw cookbook I started making meals with, and it has laid the basics for me to be able to easily comprehend ingredient combos and use many other raw cookbooks. There is an extensive glossary of off the beaten path ingrdients in the back, along with stores and mail order shops for harder to get items. Juliano doesn't hold your hand through everything, and you have to actually pay attention while reading through the recipies to conceptualize portions of some ingredients to select the right amount of produce at market. But hey, it's nice to think after being shown everything so explicitly on cooking t.v. shows, and following some cookbooks where the recipies are itemized like procedures in a nuclear powerplant emergency manual.

4 out of 5 stars Vibrancy.......2007-05-28

I loved the creativity and colorful photos- I have yet to try all the recipes but it is a great RAW entertaining book as the presentation is magnificent....

5 out of 5 stars Wow, Raw, Vibrant and FUN!.......2007-05-23

who know that the old fashioned salad leaf and carrot stick could be revived into something so delicious, sumptuous and wonderful? Juliano makes you drool over the pages and I could not wait to start uncooking! Every single recipe I have used has been magnificent, with such yummy flavours and easy to follow steps. Even though I am not known to enjoy cooking, I love uncooking.

5 out of 5 stars excellent... just excellent !.......2007-03-22

juliano has put a wonderful book together for raw fooders. very well laid out. fun to page through. sure, some of the recipes have long lists of ingredients - but if you're a raw fooder you tend to have nearly all of them on hand, except some of the produce which is for the most part easily attainable (and i live in nashville not california) and much of which can withstand some substitution - especially in things like salads. juliano is inspired and whimsical and from all i've heard is a wonderful guy with a true love for this food. this book is worth owning.

Mollie Katzen is a great cookbook author, and I love to give this as a gift to young cooks. Because Katzen writes vegetarian, it is a 'no worry' gift if the family has made that choice.
Recipies are easy to follow with delicious results. Reading, planning, following directions - all important steps for young readers.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars great cookbook for all food lovers.......2007-01-10

wonderful recipes with touches of many countries cuisines. I loved the photos accompanying the recipes, really inspirational. you really get a lot for your money with this book. as always I checked it out of the library and then wanted it to stay in my home so I bought it.
I found the recipes not difficult but not so simplistic that the food was one dimensional. Easy to whip up dinner in a small amount of time with ingredients on hand.

5 out of 5 stars Quick Delicious Recipes.......2004-10-16

I'm not much of a cook, so I love the breakdown for prep time and cook time. This gives me a relistic idea of how long a recipe takes from begining to end (the provided times are actually acurate). There are many "fast" recipes located in boxes throughout the book. Every single recipe that I have made has been delicious. My current favorites are Potato Gnocchi w/tomato sauce and Tex Mex Chilli beans, both of these take less than half an hour when using canned stewed tomatoes and pre-packaged gnocchi. If you have an entire afternoon to cook, the Minestrone soup is amazing. Even my non-vegetable eating boyfriend likes it. There are beautiful pictures on every page, and fyi food tidbits and techniques in the margins. Each recipe is rated in difficulty from one to three stars. Most recipes are one star(easy), perfect for me! I am not a vegetarian, but I like to alternate healthy vegetarian meals with meat based meals. This cookbook makes eating vegetarian simple and delicious!

4 out of 5 stars Colorful cookbook with great recipes.......2003-10-15

I recommend this book for vegetarians and non-vegetarians who enjoy expanding their meal variety. The book has everything from quick dishes for the busy week nights to elegant appetizers for entertaining. The pictures of the dishes are colorful and mouthwatering.

5 out of 5 stars Alive in 5.......2007-06-14

This is a great book for those who want a quick, healthy meal that looks good and taste YUMM too. Bought this book for my daughter who has been doing the "raw lifestyle" for 2 years now. She loves all the easy to make recipes. Angela Elliott(the Author) makes the process so easy that even a person who can't find herself around the kitchen (like my daughter) could even create a great looking meal. Gourmet without the works. What a concept.

2 out of 5 stars You call this gourmet?.......2007-03-27

I think the title of this book is quite misleading. I'm giving it two stars because I think the author is representing it as something it's not: "gourmet food".

While the recipes are not complicated, most of them are far TOO simple. Over and over, I kept asking myself, "for THIS I need a recipe book??" For example, "Cucumber Pizza", which sounds intriguing, is nothing more than chopped olives on slices of cucumber. "Scrambled Eggs", which sounds like something you wouldn't find in any ordinary raw food recipe book is -- are you ready for this? -- 3 ripe avocados mashed in a bowl, add salt and pepper! The "salad" recipes are the most basic of salads ... if you can chop some vegetables and lettuce into a bowl, add some lemon juice, olive oil and your favorite seasonings, you already know how to make most of the salads in this book.

There are several different nut milk recipes, each with a fancy, delicious-sounding name, but they're all the exact same recipe ... only the kind of nut you use is different.

Many of the recipes call for the pulp left over from making nut milk, and some of the soup recipes require nut milk. So unless you've taken the time to make nut milk, and have saved a supply of the pulp, you're out of luck.

One problem I have with many raw food recipe books is the inordinate amount of nuts, seeds and avocados called for. One recipe in this book calls for 5 avocados to make a dish that serves 3 people (just about all the recipes in the book make 3 servings). A taco recipe calls for 2 cups of soaked sunflower seeds in the pate', plus an avocado in the filling, and another cup of sunflower seeds to make the "sour cream" topping ... serves 3. I don't like gorging on fats, even if they are the healthy kind.

Some recipes call for coconuts, which is a no-go for me, because I don't want to have to deal with cracking coconuts and scraping out the flesh, etc. One recipe (that makes 3 servings) calls for 3 young coconuts.

I'm a big proponent of raw foods, and have a large collection of raw food recipe books. For "quick and simple" recipes, I especially like Raw Food Made Easy for 1 or 2 People, by Jennifer Cornbleet. Raw Foods for Busy People by Jordan Maerin is another favorite. But I cannot recommend Alive in 5, for all the reasons mentioned above. Perhaps if it were titled more honestly, something like "Dishes You Really Don't Need a Recipe Book For", I wouldn't have been so disappointed with it. I'm not saying there aren't some tasty combinations of foods in this book, but many of them are just TOO simple. To call it "Gourmet Meals" is misleading.

5 out of 5 stars Positively Transformational Un-Cookbook!.......2007-03-04

I never really liked to 'cook', but this book shows how to make fabulous, healthy food in a jiffy without heating up your kitchen or working up a sweat! I love the unique look, feel and taste of these 'Alive in Five' recipes! Alive in 5: Raw Gourmet Meals in Five Minutes

5 out of 5 stars Delicious gourmet in about 5 minutes.......2007-02-27

Alive in 5: Raw Gourmet Meals in Five Minutes My family and I really love this book.

I think Alive in Five is perfect for anyone, especially if you are a beginner. All the recipes are simple, scrumptious and really only took us about five minutes to make. I have already started to feel more confident in the kitchen.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars I love this cookbook!!.......2007-09-06

I have bought a LOT of cookbooks over time and this is by far my favorite. The recipes are easy to follow, the ingredients can be found at any grocery store, the flavors are amazing, and although it is a vegetarian cookbook the recipes easily convert to meat entrees for your meat-loving guests. I have tried about 5 or 6 of the recipes (some twice!) and my husband and I have loved every one of them. I am thoroughly looking forward to trying the rest.

4 out of 5 stars WONDERFUL!.......2007-05-07

I ordered this book because many of my vegetarian cookbooks were mostly appetizer or "light lunch" based and this one seemed to contain more "hearty" meals. I was right, it's wonderful! The recipes (though I haven't tried all that many yet) are varied and provide an actual meal as opposed to a "snack". My only complaint is that there aren't photos for every recipe (something I generally appreciate in a cookbook) but there are still several photos and descriptions of each recipe at the top of the page.

5 out of 5 stars ok recipes.......2007-01-19

some of the recipes in this book are hit and miss. most tend to not have very many spices which makes the dishes quite plain.
some dishes are quite good though.
i like it that it doesn't strictly focus on tofu like some vegetarin cookbooks tend to do.

5 out of 5 stars Easy, Delicious - Meatless!.......2006-11-08

I got this book from our local library so that I could find some recipes to cook for my in-laws who are, obviously, vegetarians. I tried several of the recipes and although we didn't love all the recipes they were all very easy to execute and the instructions are amazingly precise. An excellent cookbook even for those who aren't vegetarians.

5 out of 5 stars Easy to fix and kids will eat recipes.......2006-09-29

Not the healthiest recipes but perhaps it's a beginning if you want to change your lifestyle and your families as well. I'm sure they are tasty recipes. These are also easy to fix. Once your family is used to these, introduce healthy recipes from other cookbooks.

I love Betty Crocker but I know there are better and healthier recipes out there.

Editorial Reviews Book Description

In India, where vegetarianism is a way of life, food and its preparation assume the aspect of a spiritual discipline. "The Hare Krishna Book of Vegetarian Cooking" demonstrates that meals without meat can be both tasty and exciting. The delightful variety of gourmet dishes in this collection should inspire anyone interested in adopting a vegetarian lifestyle.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars my favorite.......2005-12-25

This is my favorite cook book that I use above all others. The full color photos of the preparations inspire me. The organization of the book makes it easy to quickly find what I need, although I think the index could use some improvement.

Although it would be very helpful to have access to a local Indian or organic foods market, I've found that many of the recipes I can adapt in order to use what is commonly available or I can omit the special or foreign ingredients altogether.

I do prefer spicier food also, so many of the recipes I cut down the main ingredients but maintained the spiciness.

Overall this is a great source for ideas and lots of important info regarding a vegetarian diet (the art of eating), the ingredients used, as well as menu plans.

5 out of 5 stars absolutely delicious and authentic.......2005-07-22

This is the best Indian vegetarian cookbook. The recepies are very detailed and easy to follow. Do not worry about the religious title -- you do not need to be a Hare Krishna follower to enjoy this food (I'm not, and I use this cookbook all the time). On the other hand you may feel a little spiritual when cooking, which can't possibly hurt the meal!

What I love about this book, is that after following it, my curries actually taste and look like curries. The same goes for other Indian dishes which I've been trying for ages to make -- now I can get that look and feel (and taste) I've been getting from my favourite Indian restaurants.

A note to beginners -- unless you really like it, skip asafetida (a spice) -- your recepies won't suffer, while its smell won't permiate your house.

5 out of 5 stars Delicious Vegetarian Food from Scratch.......2004-10-02

My brother's a Hare Krishna and switched me on to Hare Krishna cooking. Not only is it vegetarian, it's 'sattvic' which means it's free from onions, garlic, vinegar, and other foods which are thought to induce desire.

The dishes in this book are all made from scratch, using raw ingredients - they don't rely on anything which is pre-made, which results in the food being very 'pure'.

But the best thing about this book is that each dish is absolutely delicious. It is my culinary bible!

5 out of 5 stars Dietary Excellance.......2000-11-18

Due to my health, I must remain vegitarian. This book of vegetarian cooking has taken the bordom out of vegetables. The recipies and colorful illistrations have brough excitement back into my diet. My many thanks to Adiraja Dasa for his wisdom and insite into vegetarian cooking.

5 out of 5 stars Hare Krishna Book of Vegetarian Cooking.......2000-06-20

Simply the best Indian vegetarian cookbook I've used. Well worth waiting the 18 months I've had it on order while it was out of print.

Nice, easy to follow recipes with beautiful illustrations covering everything from mouth watering savory dishes to sweet delights.

Excellent book for beginners who want to experiment with vegetarian cooking. The delicious dishes will have you craving the next time you open up the book and try something new.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars family favorite.......2007-01-13

I purchased this book for an 11 year old vegetarian as a christmas gift. She loved it, and began choosing recipes that she wanted to try immediately. After looking at it, her college age sister asked if she could have a copy. When the non-vegetarian rest of the family tried the foods created from the recipes this book became an instant family favorite. Recipes are clearly written, easy for even a child to follow, creative and tasty enough for adults to love. Teaches many basics of nutrition and cooking. Vegan and non-vegan choices are given for many recipes. Lots of the recipes are developed by real teens.

5 out of 5 stars Best Vegetarian Book Ever!!!.......2006-08-23

I LOVE this book! Being the only vegetarian in my family (and also being a 'kid')makes it really hard to find things to eat that are healthy that I still like. The Teen's Vegetarian Cookbook is the best cookbook I've ever used. The format is fantastic, the instructions are really simple to follow, the recipes don't usually include strange things or anything that no one would actually eat. If you're vegan, there are lots of really good recipes that don't contain any animal products at all. This book isn't just for vegetarians, though! I got my whole family eating some of it. They added meat to theirs, but they still love the pizza dough. I even make the Chocolate Coma Pie for a party and everyone ate it and enjoyed it. Whether you're a teen, a parent, someone hoping to eat more healthy but still delicious food, or you were just dared to be vegetarian for a week, this book is the ULTIMATE!

5 out of 5 stars Great for tweens as well!.......2006-03-12

I got this book for my eleven year old daughter. Ever since we have been enjoying great meals, such as Thai Coconut Curry, on Sunday nights when it's her turn to cook. The recipes are easy enough for her to follow without much help, yet hard enough for a challange. She is sure to grow up to be a great cook and not someone who is afraid of any recipe with more than five ingrediants.

5 out of 5 stars The Best Veggie Cookbook for All Ages.......2005-12-15

I received this book when I first became a vegetarian as a young teenager. I loved it then for its easy to make recipes and easy to find ingredients. I love it now because the recipes actually taste better than my fancy veggie cookbooks. I recommend this book for vegetarians (and non-vegetarians!) of all ages.

5 out of 5 stars Tasty Treats for Teens.......2005-11-30

The Teen's Vegetarian Cookbook is a wealth of recipes and tips for new vegetarians. The recipes are split into chapters by meals - breakfast, lunch and dinner - and there are also chapters for soups, desserts and college cuisine. The recipes can all be made vegan or vegetarian depending on the Teens choice. The recipes include new and different things letting teens explore Thai and Indian cuisine, but the cookbook also includes classic favorites like vegetarian egg salad and vegetarian BLT's. Interspersed throughout the recipes is information about vegetarianism and vegans and tips for teens , for example telling them to add ingredients to their parents shopping list and choose a Saturday or Sunday to make dinner for the family. The book also stresses that teens should respect others lifestyle choices and understand that not all vegetarians have the same level of commitment.
When I became a vegetarian at age 14 I ate grilled cheese sandwiches. I continued to eat grilled cheese sandwiches for the next year until I started making new friends who were vegan and vegetarian. That group of friends helped each other find recipes and cook together - but none of us ever dreamed a cool resource like this might have existed. I would have loved to have this book as a teen - and it's worth owning for adults too!

5 out of 5 stars Great for young vegetarians.......2007-08-01

My twin goddaughters are growing up in a vegetarian home, and I love to find cookbooks for them - to encourage thier cooking and reading skills, and to support thier parents. No gift is better than the gift of skills to help them be independent~
The girls love the cookbook, and have loved the foods they have prepared. Their dad likes the food, too.

3 out of 5 stars Easy enough for a six-year old but lookout for typos.......2006-12-06

These recipes are easy to follow, but I did note some editing errors. There are references to Muffins on page 17 that are actually on another page (I believe page 20 something). My grandson and I made the muffins and the lasagna which are both quick fixes and delicious.

Three star rating due to errors. While the recipe page number issue is easily caught, it does leave one to wonder if there are more significant errors that were overlooked.

I'll let you in on a secret- I am 29 and I love this book! I have no patience for cooking, becoming frustrated at recipes that call for too many ingredients and too many steps. That's why this book is perfect for me! The recipes are simple, no fancy ingredients, no time consuming steps, yet the results are delicious. I cooked up the Cinnamon Rolls the other day and my friend thought that they were store-bought. They were so easy to make yet so good. If you are a big kid who doesn't like cooking, check this book out.

5 out of 5 stars Great book for young chefs!.......2000-06-01

This is the perfect book for older vegetarian kids who want to try their hand in the kitchen. And its forward by dietitian and author Suzanne Havala is a simple, reassuring guide, especially for non-vegetarian parents who have concerns about their independently vegetarian children or teens. For more than ten years, the author of Kids Can Cook Vegetarian Recipes, Dorothy R. Bates, has been hosting Friday afternoon cooking sessions for the teens from the Farm School near where she lives. You may have heard about the Farm, a community in Summertown, TN that is known for raising healthy vegetarian children. The recipes are simple, easy to follow, and there is nothing too out of the ordinary. The Farm kids used these recipes to create 3-course meals, and a place setting diagram is included in the book in case your kids want to host a meal, too (or just learn how to set a proper table). And in case you think it takes seasoned young chefs to recreate such a feat, keep in mind that the author has also used these recipes to cook with disadvantaged inner-city children in the Farm's "Kids to the Country" summer program.

Book Description

In a friendly and informal style, Ed Brown presents the recipes that have made the kitchen at the Tassajara Zen Center famous for more than thirty years. "Ordinary food for ordinary people" is the way Brown once described his approach, but there's nothing ordinary about these culinary offerings. From appetizers to desserts, the over two hundred recipes use the freshest ingredients in ways that will tantalize the palates of everyone from down-home vegetarians to the most discriminating gourmet cooks. The recipes are interspersed throughout with line drawings, photographs of the center and its environs, and Brown's own poetry. This revised edition includes twenty-nine new and four revised recipes, new photographs, and a new introduction.

5 out of 5 stars A simply wonderful vegetarian cookbbook.......2005-05-14

The Tassajara Recipe Book is a great cookbook for families moving to a vegetarian diet(like mine). The recipes are delicious, simple to follow and use common ingredients available at the grocery store.

Edward Espe Brown's commentaries, descriptions and poems are thoughtful and full of humor.

5 out of 5 stars Every Single Recipe in this Book is Terrific!.......2003-10-17

Every single recipe in this book is amazing-- they are all wonderfully balanced and do not call for hard-to-find ingredients.

The collection features a good blend of exotic, gourmet, health, and American-traditional dishes (with a touch of flair, of course!) Check the index under sample pages for listings.

Instructions are straight-forward and easy to follow, however there are no pictures or diagrams to help (but for most people, the written instructions will be sufficient.) The book helps you develop a sense of intuition with cooking, sometimes the techniques are open-ended.

This is among the best and unique recipe books I have.

5 out of 5 stars BUY THIS BOOK!!!.......2000-12-05

This is a wonderful collection of vegetarian recipes presented in an easy-to-follow format. I recently lived at Tassajara for several years, and spent much of that time on the kitchen crew. I am delighted that this new edition includes so many recipes that I forgot to copy down when I left! Vegetarian cooking in this country has graduated its early dependency on dairy and carbo-laden meals to an incredible variety of healthy and satisfying dishes. Ed's new edition keeps the best of the original Tassajara recipes and adds some of the latest community favorites to the mix. And the most important flavor of all, that of the Tassajara community, can still be savored in Ed's poems and anecdotes about Zen practice and daily living in the valley monastery which inspired this book and continues to inspire so many people today.

3 out of 5 stars Cooking for an Army?.......2006-09-27

I am not a vegetarian but I would like to become one. I bought this book because it offered balanced vegetarian breakfasts, lunches and dinners - just what I was looking for. However, the dinners are HUGE! Of course, a person does not have to cook every dish on the menu, and she does state that, but the whole reason I was drawn to this book was I wanted a book that would say, "Here eat this and you'll get all the nutrients you'll need as a vegetarian." I did not have a problem, as one reviewer did, with the idea that I would need ingredients from dinner, for example, for breakfast the next day. In fact I liked that idea. The first fall menu is: Miso Soup, Brown Rice, Aduki Beans, Sauteed Carrols, Onions and Squash and Cabbage Salad. Doesn't that sound great? For this meal, she writes that you will need TWO 2 or 3 quart covered pots, a 4-quart pressure cooker or 3-quart covered pot, plus a skillet or saucepan. Do you have, or usually need, that many pots? I don't. The next day after cooking this dinner, you use the left-over rice for breakfast, the left-over aduki beans for a soup for lunch and the left-over sauteed carrots-onions-squash in a dish of fried rice with vegetables, also part of the lunch. I like that but I would have to make the lunch for the next dinner because I just don't have time to spend over a half hour cooking a lunch. I will screw up my courage eventually to try to see how I can use this book, perhaps even buy some more pots and whatever, but I wish someone had written a review warning me about the cooking vessels needed to do the menus as written. (Waffle iron needed for breakfast number three, by the way.)

2 out of 5 stars different from what i expected..........2003-08-30

this book was not what i expected. it may be a very good book for those who cook or intend to cook 3 meals a day. But when i bought this book, i thought it was about making a full balanced meal at one time. this book is set up a bit differently. it gives instructions to prepare breakfast, lunch and dinner all at once. the breakfast needs some bit of dinner leftovers, the dinner requires some part of lunch leftovers and the lunch needs some ingredient from the breakfast. So in order to make one meal, you have to make all 3 meals. so if you just want to come home and cook a single meal of dinner, then this book is not for that.

5 out of 5 stars A Classic ... A good place to start.......2001-09-11

With this book, I started at the first fall menu and started cooking my way through it. It's been totally doable. The recipes are so simple and laid out with directions of what to do first, second etc. that preparing entire meals with dessert gets faster with time. (She includes a healthy dessert in most of them.) I have noticed a couple mismarkings that would've affected the whole dish if I hadn't caught them, and while some of the recipes are really wonderful, others are just plain yuck! (I know it's health food but sometimes it goes too far!) As for flavor, it's definitely on the side of the old "healthy" stuff. If you're looking for the creative haute-cuisine vegetarian/vegan stuff you can find today, this is not it. However, the meals make me feel good and satisfied. They are so balanced, I find I don't crave sweets afterwards. The suggestions for what to do with the leftovers are really useful. Also, if you are nervous (as I was) about using all of these strange ingredients, the directions are simple enough that you'll become a pro in no time. One more thing - my complexion has really improved since I started using this book.

4 out of 5 stars Delicious and Hearty.......1999-12-10

This is an exceptional book for anyone new to vegetarian cooking and concerned about getting the nutrients that are necessary. The recipes are hearty and the meals are robust.

5 out of 5 stars Whole Foods Meals Made The Smart Way.......1998-05-11

I recommend this book to anyone interested in macrobiotics, vegetarianism, and general healthy living. The book begins with the theories on why it is important that we eat organic, locally grown, natural foods. It explains how to choose your meals, what those "wierd" natural foods are that were unfamiliar to me before I read this book, and even how to set up your kitchen. The recipes make up the second half of the book. It is divided into winter, spring, summer, and fall with seven complete meal plans for each season. These meals are something you could actually make. Leftovers from dinner are combined or changed into something completely different for lunch and breakfast the next day. In the sidebars of each page are directions for how to prepare the complete meal in the proper order. For example, it might say 1. Cook rice. Go on to soup. 2. Chop vegetables. Go on to tofu. 3. Marinade tofu. Go on to etc. Then the complete recipes are listed on the main part of the page. All the recipes in this book are easily adaptable to your particular tastes. The only thing I don't like about it is there are a few recipes involving fish or eggs. I am a vegan, so I don't use either of these.
