Book Description
The barnyard rooster crows and Jack wakes up -- hungry, of course! What does he want for breakfast? A big pancake! But first, Jack's mother needs flour from the mill, an egg from the black hen, milk from the spotted cow, butter churned from fresh cream, and firewood for the stove. Will Jack ever get his pancake?
With his trademark vibrant collage illustrations and a lively text, Eric Carle has created a mouthwatering tale for young readers.

Great book for young people.......2007-04-10
While volunteering for a reading program, I ran across this book. I read it to some 4 and 5 year olds. The students loved the colorful pictures and asked me to read this book over and over. I would recommend this book to anyone who has a child in their life.
pancakes.......2007-02-16
I ordered 14 Eric Carle books because I loved his hungry catterpiller, polar bear and brown bear books however the 14 others I ordered were very disappointing. I never have time to go to the post office or else I would have returned every single one including this book.
A nice book.......2006-09-04
This is a fun story. Helps children understand the logical, sequential steps involved in getting something done, plus it's a fun tale. The pictures are enjoyable.
Great book!.......2006-09-01
This is such a great book; my daughter cries out for "real" pancakes after every read. The book shows in very basic and simple steps how a traditional pancake (including its ingredients) is made. Hungry "Jack" (is this irony or coincidence??!) is sent on various errands by his mother in the process - get an egg (feed the hen first!), reap the wheat and get it milled, collect the firewood etc - until in the end he gets the reward for his hard work: a delicious fresh well-earned pancake! My daughter (2 1/2) can relate very well to the step-by-step approach and actually insisted on getting the firewood for our own pancakes after reading the book. Try the recipe-like description of how the mother and Jack mix all the ingredients together yourself for a lovely pancake which is nothing like the pancake-mix-stuff ones. The illustrations are typically Carle: bright, colourful and vivid. All in all, this book is a true favourite in our household.
Pancakes, Pancakes by Eric Carle.......2005-11-14
Guess why I want you to read Pancakes, Pancakes.I want you to read it because it is very good and very, very fun to read. This is what the story is about: One morning Jack wanted to have a pancake for breakfast, but his mother was busy. So Jack had to go around to get what they needed for pancakes. In the end Jack ate the pancakes he and his mother had made.
I hope you read this book.

Book Description
Every year George and the man with the yellow hat attend the pancake breakfast to benefit the children's hospital. Always curious, George finds his way to the pancake table. After making some of the most interesting pancakes the crowd has ever seen George gets into even more monkey mischief. The adventures of Curious George continue in an all-new series beginning in fall 1998 with eight new stories. Written and illustrated in the style of Margret and H. A. Rey, the books appear in paperback (8 x 8") and hardcover editions and feature the art of Vipah Interactive, the animators of HMI's Curious George CD-ROMs.
Customer Reviews:
My kids love this book.......2007-05-26
While not as cute and creative as the original Curious George books, this one is decent. My kids don't mind at all and they love to read it over & over again.
Fraud.......2006-03-22
Buyer beware--this is written "in the style of HA Ray," i.e. by a faceless corporation and is illustrated by "Vipah Interactive" and was apparently written in the mid-90s. In other words, it's a scam. The story and illustrations both lack the charm and creativity of the original Curious George books--please avoid this attempt to cash in on the original.
Fun story.......2005-12-29
My 18 month old loves to have this book read to her. She enjoys seeing George make pancakes, and especially loves when he adds blueberries. It is a cute book, and reminds me of those I read as a child.
Curious George breaks out a spatula.......2004-06-30
Curious George goes to a pancake breakfast (actually, it's more like a county fair). Then, he makes pancakes while the cook is away. He makes them quicker and better than the cook. Then the cook chases him away. As usual, George gets in a little bit of trouble. Then all is well, and everyone praises George.
This book has part of the charm of CURIOUS GEORGE GOES TO AN ICE CREAM SHOP, with almost exactly the same plot. There's nothing surprising here-- kids and adults will see Curious George in another formulaic plot. This book was adapted from the Curious George film series, and it is based on characters created by H.A. Rey. It is NOT one of the George books written by H.A. Rey.
Some readers are delighted by Curious George, and the plot doesn't matter. In that case, choose CURIOUS GEORGE MAKES PANCAKES.
If you want a better story, try CURIOUS GEORGE GOES TO AN ICE CREAM SHOP, or, better still, one of the H.A. Rey-authored original Curious George stories, such as CURIOUS GEORGE GOES TO THE HOSPITAL or CURIOUS GEORGE GETS A MEDAL.
Brings back memories.......2003-11-25
Everytime I see a Curious George book I remember how much I loved reading them as a kid, I must confess that nothing has changed. This is a funny, entertaining book for both adults reading to children and for children themselves.

A Cookbook Joke.......2007-01-20
I usually look at the dimensions of books I buy on line but did not on this one. Too bad. It was about 3" X 4" - like a toddler's first book. It should have been half the price - including shipping - and probably not worth the trouble anyway. The recipes weren't even worth reading. I'm sorry Amazon chose to link this book with a very good waffle maker. I based my purchase on the credibility of Amazon. I guess that was a mistake.
The not worth the money waffle book.......2007-01-11
Very small book for the price, no recipies for basic waffles, way too much money for this so-so book.
Delicious pancakes and waffles.......2005-02-22
There's nothing I enjoy more after a hard morning workout in the mountains or the gym for breakfast than a huge stack of pancakes or waffles. I usually opt for whole wheat flour over sourdough and I always add some sliced fruit like bananas or berries with some walnuts or other nuts. Top it off with a little butter and syrup and prepare for a heavenly meal. Mmmmm. Many good recipes in this book.
Yummy, Pancakes & Waffles.......2001-03-27
When I want to make pancakes or waffles this is the book I always reach for. The Buttermilk Pancakes, Cornmeal Blueberry Pancakes are two of our most favorite. Hungry for the long-time-ago taste of Buckwheat Pancakes, then you'll love the flavor of these. Whether you need something for breakfast or want to try a new version on a favorite snack for the children (mine adore the Peanut Butter Waffles anytime of the day), waffles are a good choice, not only because they freeze well, but they taste Great!! Proving again that good things come in small packages; this is a Totally complete Pancake and Waffle Cookbook!
Good Eating.......2000-12-11
I have been preparing sourdough pancakes and waffles for over 25 years using dozens of methods and techniques, but the simple recipe on pg 56 beats them all for flavor, texture, and overnite preparation! The Sour Cream Silver Dollar pancakes and the Cornmeal Blueberry Cakes are a tie for second place at our breakfast table. I would rate this little book 5 stars, but I haven't tried more than about four of the recipes-yet. As they say, enjoy!
Book Description
Author Camille Le Foll invites readers back to her grandmother’s kitchen to learn all about the wonders of blinis and crepes. She explains the differences between the two (and between both of these and pancakes) and then offers 30 recipes that home cooks will rush to try out. The choices range from savory to sweet, from Buckwheat Blinis with Smoked Haddock to Apple Crepes caramelized with butter, from zucchini pancakes to the most fabulous flaming crepes Suzette ever. It’s all irresistible.

Beautiful and Tasty !.......2007-01-06
I bought this as a gift and I have to say it's one of the more beautiful cooking books I've gotten recently. Delicious looking photos and step by step instructions are included for every mouth watering recipe. I especially like the fact that the differences between crepes, pancakes and blinis are discussed. Both savory and sweet recipies are included. Easy to follow instructions for novices and more advanced cooks alike.
Customer Reviews:
Great little Waffle cookbook!.......2005-12-27
Very nice variety of recipes and great tasting waffles!
Waffle Heaven.......2002-10-31
At this point, we have only used a few of the recipies in this book. We generally like to eat healthy, but when we want a "mean and nasty" treat, we grab the waffle maker and this book. We figure that with all the variations in this book, we will have years of variety trying them all.
Nice Variety.......2001-09-26
I like this little cookbook. There is a large variety of recipes in here. There is also a section for waffles with whole grains and waffles with fruit additions. Since I have a belgium waffle maker, I usually have to double the recipes to get more than one waffle. Every time I make waffles I'll use a different recipe from this book, and all of them have turned out tasting great.
Donna Rathmell German Never Fails to Deliver!.......2000-02-01
I recently got a waffle iron, but the recipe included with the appliance was disappointing to say the least. I borrowed this book from the library because I have been very pleased with German's bread machine books and thought I would test some of the recipes to see if the book was worth adding to my collection. I shouldn't have worried! I could have bought it outright and saved myself a little time! We have tried the Sweet Butter Waffles (they are as heavenly as they sound) and the Peanut Butter Waffles (also very yummy and popular with the kids as well). In addition to the fabulous recipes, German also gives detailed information on waffle making in general (how much batter to use, how to tell when the waffle is done, etc.) and how to adapt recipes if you want to make pancakes instead. She even gives you "permission" to just mix everything together at once if you don't want to take the time to separate the egg (and I can tell you from personal experience, the results are just as delicious!) If you love waffles, or if you've always wanted to make them but were too chicken to try, this is the book for you!
Best Waffles we have tasted in a long time. Great selection........1997-03-10
Have tried: Apple Spice Waffles, Orange Waffles, Vanilla waffles, Cinnamon Raisin, and Something with Pecans.Could not find a better book with waffle recipes ANYWHERE

Customer Reviews:
mmm pancakes with your siblings.......2007-09-12
Pancakes and children together having fun on a lovely morning with colorful illustrations. What more can you ask for? This is a story filled with fun illustrations and a silly story that focuses on pancakes. The only problem I have is that sometimes just reading the text for younger children, they won't fully understand it. The illustrations tell a lot of the story that the words don't so be ready to give some explanations to little ones. I read this with my two year old and he loved the rhyming text and silly the brothers and sister having a blast at breakfast time.
WONDERFUL!.......2004-04-10
My son, who is two, received this book as a gift, and it is one of his favorites. He always laughs hysterically when we read it, and he walks around reciting lines from the book. This book has become THE book that I buy for birthday presents, because it's great fun to read and to make the pancakes, too!
Hey, Pancakes! is a hit!!!.......2004-04-04
A few months ago my son had the opportunity to attend a book reading by Tamson Weston and we purchased an autographed copy of Hey, Pancakes. It has become the FAVORITE in our house. The simplicity of the story is captivating for my kids, even my 2 year old has memorized the words. In this day and age of high tech tv, computers and video games it's nice to curl up with a book the whole family loves! As the last sentence in the book states 'Let's go out into the world and give a pancake(or panshake as my two year old says!) cheer!' Tamson Weston has a winner with this book!!!
Wonderful Granchild Entertainment.......2003-11-21
I bought this book as part of my weekend entertainment plan for my 6 year old grandson. The stay was a success! I think, in great part, due to our sunday morning "Pancake Party". We read Hey Pancakes! the night before, I had pre-purchased the ingredients with, of course, real maple syrup and then we reviewed the recipe in the back of the book and discussed what and why of each ingredient and even had a little lesson in measuring. It was great fun for both Grandpa and Grandson. I think it'll be a weekend that'll be remembered.
A Delicious Book.......2003-11-19
Hey Pancakes by Tamson Weston, is a charming and delightful book for early readers. As an educator of young children ,I found my group squealing with delight as they got into the fun rhythm of the story. The imagination of the reader is spiked as he relates to the "pancake toll" The book is lively, and even the nonreader chimes in on the second reading as he anticipates the comfortable and natural rhyme. The whimsical ilustrations are very much in keeping with the spirit of the text. This book is a winner, and will delight young readers for years to come. I look forward to many more book from this very talented new author.P.S. The pancake recipe was yummy, and we did get our fingers sticky.
Book Description
Back in 1982, a small diner was founded near the Berkeley marina by a breakfast-loving group of chefs. These many years later, it has become one of the Bay Area's favorite breakfast and brunch spots, with people lining up well before the doors open each morning. In THE PANCAKE HANDBOOK, the Bette's Diner crew shares their classic recipes for some of the best pancakes found anywhere. Classic buttermilk take their place alongside Bette's daily specials, which include blueberry buttermilk, butter pecan, banana upside-down, fresh corn, apple-brandy, chocolate, and chile-cheesenot to mention the signature soufflé pancakes, which emerge from the oven spectacularly puffed and golden brown. Packed with tips on keeping your pancakes fluffy and plenty of topping and syrup suggestions, THE PANCAKE HANDBOOK is your personal handbook to what pancakes should be.
Customer Reviews:
Much more than just great recipies..........2006-08-01
Being a former San Francisco resident I've had the pleasure of eating at Bette's Oceanview Diner. The only problem with eating Bette's cakes is your faced with the reality that you own pancakes really don't compare. Now, with this book in hand, I am delighted to say that this is no longer the case.
The Pancake Handbook isn't a mere "recipe book". I've tried many recipes throughout the years with varying success. In this book you'll learn that picking the right flour, baking soda and other ingredients is just as important as how they're mixed together. You'll learn about griddle temperature, batter consistency and when to flip for perfect doneness. There are so many simple little tricks to better pancakes and they're all in this book.
The recipes cover pancakes of all varieties including; basic, fancy, spiced, cornmeal, whole-wheat, and sourdough. There are chapters on dairy pancakes, crepes, soufflé pancakes, kid's pancakes and toppings. Many of them have variations and add-ins as well as optional ingredients such as how to make buttermilk pancakes when you haven't any buttermilk on hand.
I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to make great cakes regardless of your current cooking abilities. It is simple to follow and virtually guarantees fantastic results.
Fluffy Yum!!!.......2003-11-10
This book is a must have for any pancake lover. I was first introduced to The Pancake Handbook through reading a two page spread of excerpts in the LA Times. I tried 3 of the 5 recipes before I bought the book. Every recipe I've tested so far is delicious and superb!!!
Book Description

Customer Reviews:
$5.49 for interesting uses for my waffle iron.......2007-06-15
Carbon's mix with buttermilk has made for perfect waffles everytime for me but I wanted to see what else my professional waffle iron could do.
Good book, but you can use less baking powder in the recipes.......2004-12-23
I enjoy the creative waffles that are in this book, especially the Apple-Gruyere waffles and the Polenta waffles.
However, I have a hint for you: you can use no baking powder and just double the baking soda and that works fine for lift. I read in "The Best Recipe" that double-acting baking powder doesn't really work in waffles, because there isn't enough time in the short baking cycle for it to really get bubbling, and thus they use only baking soda in their recipes.
I thought that Greenspan seemed to use an awful lot of baking powder in her recipes (one tablespoon? I don't even use that in regular baking!), so I modified it to use just a bit more baking soda and no baking powder in the Apple-Gruyere waffles, and it worked fine!
Absolutely Wonderful!.......2003-06-15
I did not care for waffles until my daughter bought me a waffle iron this past Christmas. So, my search for recipes (I never made them before) began. I found Ms. Greenspan's recipe for Spicy Ricotta Waffles on the the foodtv.com site and they were so delicious that I looked up info on the book on Amazon. Thank goodness! The author covers all areas, from appetizers to desserts. She also includes dips, spreads, oils, etc. Delicious recipes. As another reviewer noted, yes, give this cookbook with a waffle iron to newlyweds, but also to any and everyone who likes waffles. I love this book! You can even make toasted cheese sandwiches in your waffle iron - did you know that? I didn't!!
Clever uses for a waffle iron.......1998-05-07
The author has gone to great lengths to make up waffle-able recipies. I really enjoy the carrot-raisin and the oatmeal banana waffles. They freeze wonderfully! Give a copy of this book with a waffle iron to newlyweds!

Foodies may declare crêpes "in" or "out," but they are a welcome treat for most of us. Lou Seibert Pappas explains that "crêpe" is the French word for pancake, and that the dish originated in Brittany, in northwestern France. Until about 100 years ago, all crêpes were made from buckwheat flour. Pappas departs from that tradition by providing 15 recipes for different kinds of crêpes. Eleven are savory, including ones made with whole wheat flour, with minced herbs, and with chickpea flour, while four are sweetened to use in making desserts. Photos accompanying Pappas's meticulous directions illustrate how to turn out light, delicate crêpes and how to fold them around fillings in 11 ways. She also explains what to do about problems such as small holes or cracking edges.
Crêpes also offers novel ways of serving the pancakes, such as the Party Stack with Pesto Fillings; Salad Basket Crêpes with Grapes, Blue Cheese, and Hazelnuts; and Chicken, Corn, and Red Pepper Crêpes. In addition, you will find Wild Mushroom Crêpes and other classics. Cannelloni and Cheese Blintzes are reminders that crêpes are more than a French favorite. --Dana Jacobi

Customer Reviews:
Love this book!.......2007-08-26
I originally found this book at a library, but after checking it out over and over again -as I love it, I checked on Amazon and it was here!! Love it! It has such a wonderful variety of crepes, using different flours etc., sweet and savory, and so many tips and ideas. I share this book title with everyone at my cooking shows. Definitely worth the price and then some!
Just what I was looking for..........2007-08-19
I took a crepe making class just to learn the technique and take the fear out of crepe making. While I took away from that class a few recipes, none were interesting enough to make at home. This book is wonderful--what closed the deal on purchasing it was when I saw that it included a recipe for blue corn crepes. While vacationing in Santa Fe, I fell in love with their blue corn pancake/muffin mix. I can't wait to make the blue corn crepes with the blue corn mix I brought back to Houston. The recipes in this book are exactly what I was looking for--diverse and simple to follow.
Excellent crepe overview.......2007-05-07
I opened the book, and made excellent crepes right away, within minutes. Can't do much better than that!
Excellent crepe recipes, fillings leave a little to be desired.......2007-03-16
The introduction to this book and the basic recipes for crepes are well worth its price. The crepes turn out tender and flavorful every time. One of my new favorites for savory crepes is the Garbanzo Flour Crepe recipe. Another excellent feature is that Seibert-Pappas gives useful information on how to fold and store crepes.
One drawback to this book is that Ricotta cheese is used as a filler in virtually all of the savory crepe recipes. This can be a problem if you do not like ricotta cheese or if you do not like it when it is combined with certain foods (e.g. seafood). The recipes for dessert crepes are more varied.
Crepe Book Almost Useless.......2007-02-10
I was disappointed with the book because it is not for the average cook. Too many of the recipes have unusual ingredients, and they are not satisfactory for my needs. I give the book a 2 rating, although I'm sure that more adventuresome cooks might find it excellent.

One of my favorite cookbooks..........2007-01-15
Wonderful! Every recipe I've tried in this little cookbook---from spinach and gruyere crepes to baked German apple pancakes---has been a big winner. While this book would make an excellent gift to accompany a waffle maker (as other reviewers mention), it also goes beyond waffles. It has both sweet and savory items, and tasty recipes for dishes good any time of the day.
Waffles aren't just for breakfast anymore!.......2007-01-10
This is a GREAT little book to accompany a Belgian waffle maker as a gift. I have 3 daughters and they all were thrilled with their makers and this book for Christmas.
Waffles aren't just for breakfast anymore!
Great Gift.......2005-09-27
I purchased this book as a gift along with a wafflemaker. I think it's the perfect recipe book for a gift, since it has great pictures, creative & different recipes and is small in size.
