This book combines information from different pranic healing-books. It covers a wide area of knowledge including: healing, energy exercises, what energy is and how it relates to healing, your energy anatomy and so on.
The book has great exercises to train you to manipulate your and you fellow beings energy fields. If you are already familiar with another type of energy healing, then this book has some new and valuable information, which I found useful.
If you are new to energy healing, and are wondering if this stuff is real, then I suggest you get this book and start using it's methods. That's the only way to find out for sure.

I can scan another persons aura. They can feel it, I can feel it and it scares me half to death. (I had to put the book down before finishing it)
As a Christian I'm not sure that this is the right thing to do.

Pranic healing is effective, as shown by various studies (see www.pranicmds.org for a sample).
As a book on pranic healing, YHCHY is very highly recommended (especially for those new to pranic healing) because it is: 1) very clear, 2) very easy to read, and 3) surprisingly complete.
YHCHY is very clearly written. In the esoteric field of energy healing, one might expect some authors to hide behind language to avoid having to deal with details that are not easy to explain. YHCHY goes out of its way to explain in detail with clear concepts.
Although YHCHY is detailed, it is still very easy to read, and the directions are simple to follow. The book itself doesn't take too long to read, but packs a lot of information in relatively few pages.
What surprised me most about YHCHY is how complete and integrated it is. The book focuses primarily on basic pranic healing, but also gives techniques for other areas that together coalesce to form a complete system. For example, the book also includes some techniques for increased healing effectiveness through colored prana, protection, meditation, psychological well-being, and spirituality. The book isn't designed to be the only pranic healing book that you'll ever need. However, it does give you an idea of the breadth of applications that pranic healing has, and meanwhile gives you some access to those advanced techniques.
The book was criticized by one reader as having fluff. I strongly disagree. If the reader's sole focus is basic healing, then yes he could be correct. But these areas are all interrelated and synergistic. For example, many diseases have psychological roots, therefore techniques in psychological well-being can help in the healing process. Ditto with meditation, spirituality, etc. So, these seemingly irrelevant "fluff" are actually important and help increase healing effectiveness.

I started the protocol listed in the first book nearly 8 years ago. It took about a year to get through the initial phase. It has been worth every bit of the effort, including finding products containing no botanicals or salicylates. It's not that hard - just read the labels.
Before starting the guaifenesin protocol, I had some good days, mostly bad days. Now I truly understand what a good day is - it is a day I can do anything I want without ever considering the fact that I have FMS. It never enters my head! Imagine having a day like that if you can barely walk through the grocery store. I used to go to only one store because there was a bench in the middle of the store where I could sit to rest. And then half the time I would have to leave before finishing, or call my husband to come get me. I have found victory over this condition and encourage you to summon the courage to do it too. I admit that it was a hard decision. I was not sure that I could handle more pain in the induction phase. The pain was not as bad as I had feared, and the fog lifted much sooner than I calculated - it took only a year instead of 16 months. A year is a short time when you have the rest of your life to live free of the pain and fatigue. Do it for yourself and your family.

This book has saved my life. Ignore the idiot reviewers who condemn this book as too hard to apply. If you want your life back you will get this book and you will do everything in your power to do everything the protocol calls for. If it is not working it is something you are not doing. Try harder and figure it out! You are in charge. No one is going to do it for you. This book shows you how you can do it. So do it. I did it and hundreds of others have too. We have all wanted to live, instead of existing in a cloud of pain and fatigue. So LIVE!!!
It used to be extremely difficult for me to just walk around the block. And I was on so many medications to just "function". I am now medication free except the necessity of quaifenesin. I now go to the gym for an hour workout 5 days a week. It took me 2 years to get to that point. I am pain free. I have my life back. The guaifenesin protocol is a life style change that works. So change your life for yourself and for the people in it. Get the book and get with it!!
The medical community did not help me. They actually scoffed when I presented the quaifenesin protocol. They are more interested in treating the symtoms then treating the cause. I think this is a sad, sad, reflection of the Hypocratic Oath that they have taken. My renewed health is real. What a shame they can't participate in my joy.

Utterly bone-headed.......2007-05-08
The worst kind of [...] imaginable. This book advocates a zero cardio training approach, which is completely brainless. Research has proven that weight loss is the result of less calories in vs. calories out. Intense cardio training is the most time efficient way to burn calories. When coupled with a reasonably calorie restricted diet, this is what burns fat. Period.
Weightlifting makes you look pretty, and is an important part of the whole, but the authors place far too much emphasis on it. Research has proven that building muscle DOES NOT dramatically increase metabolism. It makes you look nice, is fun, builds stronger bone structure etc., but has only minimal effect on overall metabolism.
Their diet is too high fat and too high protein. They need to read Nancy Clark's Sport Nutrition Guidebook. Year's of research prove that you can build lots of muscle with only a 15% protein intake. Carbs assist with protein synthesis and provide energy and are by far the most important part of the diet.
They do get a few things right: progressive overload, avoiding bad fats, staying away from supplements etc., but these are buried in piles of bad information. They only have pictures of six guys from the original 30, and they don't look that impressive. No testosterone testing was done to "prove" their "claims" about boosting it.
Finally, the writing is terrible. Maybe if my IQ was significantly lower I would get motivated by the chest-thumping garbage, but I just found it overly cheezy.

Very persuasive in it's presentation that men have to eat like men, but outside of that there is really no new info. Probably an easier way to begin a healthy diet/lifestyle.

This book is fantastic. The authors dispell many myths surrounding the differing nutrional and exercise needs of men and women. It may come as a shock to many, especially the editors of the Library Journal, that men and women are indeed different.
Besides the workouts and diet advice, one of the book's greatest contributions is exposing the defects in the government's "Food Guide Pyramid," as well as putting the lie to much of the conventional nutrition and workout wisdom out there these days.
"Eat like a man to look like a man." Excellent advice. I highly recommend this book.
A note on the Library Journal's comments: Why would I have to "plow through the book's chest-thumping"? I'm a guy, isn't that the point? I LIKE chest-thumping!

Eat like a Man. Look like a Man. "The Testosterone Advantage Plan" is, like its title suggest a plan to burn fat and gain muscle mass written just for men. The book proposes an eating and exercise plan to boost testosterone levels naturally, without supplements of any kind. The book emphasizes on exercises programs for the weight room and does not support aerobic exercises as a tool to get in shape.
I bought this book four years ago, and I liked its eating strategies to maximize muscle gain and fat loss, but since I an such an enthusiast of aerobic exercise (running and jogging) I used what they suggest for the exercise program and combined it with my running sessions anyway.
I lost more than 200 lbs about six years ago, during a period of about eight months, and went from pants 44 to 32. Prior to star changing my eating and exercise habits I bought "Men's Health Hardbody Plan" which is another excellent, easy to read, comprehensive and complete reference that I give most of the credit for my success. I already have lost all the weight I wanted by the time I bought "The Testosterone Advantage Plan", but I found the advices in this book most useful to keep the weight off through an easy to follow eating plan, and used its advices for the gym. With both books I have been able to keep the weight off for more than six years.
In short terms, based on my experience I can recommend this book, and it's a great reading as well.
Another tools you may want to consider, to complement this book and your strategies for boosting your metabolism, loosing weight, and even more important keeping that weight off are:
- A Body Fat Monitor or Scale. This will help you monitor your progress, to assure that the weight you are loosing is fat (fat lost = increased metabolism) and not muscle, water or bone mass (decreased metabolism).
- "Ultrametabolism: The Simple Plan for Automatic Weight Loss", which is another very practical, readable and insightful book, focused on how to boost your metabolism.
- "The Abs Diet: The Six-Week Plan to Flatten Your Stomach and Keep You Lean for Life".
- A Heart Rate Monitor Wrist Watch. This is an excellent tool that will help you monitor and control your Heart Rate in order to keep yourself in a burning fat state (increased metabolism).
- "The Hard Body Guide". Excellent strategies, programs and workouts, aimed to increase your muscle mass.
If you are focused only on your diet, the first three may be worth considering. If you exercise, or want to start doing it right, the last two are for you. If you do both, all the four recommended options can improve your results.

"The Testosterone Advantage" is a well-written and informative book with a misleading title. A better title would have been "Dieting & Exercise for Men." The book has two main parts: one part is all about diet, the other about exercise (especially weight-bearing exercise).
Unlike many books, "The Testosterone Advantage" has a concrete formula for figuring out what you should eat. Depending upon your age, and goal (weight loss or muscular gain) you can use this book to determine how many calories you should consume, and in what proportions (i.e. carbs, protein, and fats).
The exercise portion of the book explains why some aerobic exercise is good, but too much actually causes the body to catabolize (break down) the very muscle that you work so hard to build (not to mention the effect that extreme aerobic exercise has on joint tissue). Instead, the authors tell us, concentrate on anaerobic exercise, which will not only create muscle, but also bone mass and better joints. Much better than the nebulous advice given by other books (for example, like "Body for Life").

I was disappointed in this book, hoping for something to help my wife who is on Prozac for waking her brain up as she is recovering from a major hemmorhaggic stroke. This book is good for people who don't realize how profoundly their diet effects all aspects of their health. But there are no "secrets" revealed, and no magic relief for my wife.

A lifesaver for me!.......1999-03-21
I had suffered from depression for more than 25 years, off and on, and finally I was put on anti-depressants. I hated the side effects and eventually had to quit the meds. I came across this book, just a small mass produced paperback book and the information, although simple has changed my life. I no longer have mood swings, dark brooding periods or headaches. The author takes a lot of time to explain the physiology behind it all. If the science is too much for the reader than he/she can just get to the nitty gritty of it all. The method she proposes is simple for anyone to follow. My husband was very skeptical about a book changing one's life but I had no choice but to give a chance. I'm forever grateful to the author for writing this book. My family has a wife and mother now who isn't a Jekyll and Hyde show.

I found this book very helpful for my particular situation--I have health issues preventing me from doing much standing and/or movement right now. I'm starting my energy practice, literally, from the ground up and I've found the seated chi kung exercises to be most helpful.

This book describes the sitting qigong exercises, but it doesn't provide good explanations why you should be doing them and it doesn't describe benefits of each exercise.
I found it boring and not very useful. The only thing that I liked is that he gave a good detailed explanation of opening and closing sequence you should do before and after every qigong practice.

Practical help for those beginning to exercise........2005-09-04
This is an excellent book for anyone who is just beginning to exercise and/or is out of shape. It is simple and gentle on the new-comer so it does not leave one discouraged. I noticed improvement in my posture almost immediately. I also felt my muscles were more balanced (some had been very tight from over-use and others had seldom been used at all). There is also a "dance" perspective: grace and balance. And most of all I think I have benefitted from being "oxygenated" and "stretched". The book emphasizes breathing and concentrating. Concentrating helps alleviate boredom for those of us who find exercising kind of dull. My suggestion: Buy some CD like "Ocean Dreams" to go with your little exercise session and it will almost seem "spiritual" because you will feel betterafterwards. This book is very practical, and I find myself now applying some of these Pilates principals of exercise throughout my day...even when I am at work.

I would have given this book 3 stars for the tips the author gives, but everything else is just 2 stars or less. A book titled "Healing Tonics" gives you the impression that it's all about healing drinks containing herbs, fresh fruit & vegetables. Unfortunately some recipes contain meat (chicken, oysters) and some other products that I don't believe contribute to a healthful life in any way (butter, etc). Although those items were not in the author's recipes, they were in recipes from her contributors (other herbalists). If I had looked through the book in a bookstore first, I wouldn't have purchased it.
Delightful compilation.......2006-08-16
I am really rather pleased with what was an impulse buy. It's a small book but has a number of fascinating tonic mixtures in tea, tincture and cordial form (with even one mix for topical application). The tonics are for all sorts of requirements: men's problems, womens' life phases, digestive problems, stress relief, vitality boosters, circulatory tonics, etc. The receipes from experienced herbalists appear to be extremely good and I am looking forward to some experimentation using them. The only reason I haven't given it a full 5 stars was that I think the small materia medica at the rear could have been even better if contraindications were more fully covered but it does show those that are inappropriate for pregnant people and give a few contraindications to consider. A interesting book for those interested in herbalism.

Here is a wonderful book of recipes that are not only delicious but provide a natural boost to your immune system and overall good health. The book highlights such fantastic herbalists as Rosemary Gladstar, Christopher Hobbs and Amanda McQuade-Crawford to name but a few. Each herbalist is asked to describe his or her favorite recipes for healing and supporting a healthy body. With names like Amanda's Herbal Iron Elixir and Balsamic Blast, there is a multitude of choices available for every taste and need. Not only do the recipes cover the healing aspect of herbs in foods, they also include recipes for healing herbs in teas and tinctures. A precise and easy to follow chapter on how to make tincture, teas and cordials makes this a book that can be used by the beginner as well as someone familiar with using medicinal herbs. Another chapter is devoted solely to the herbs in the book, including their common and botanical Latin names, the parts used, the general taste and the herb's affinity for particular body systems. This chapter is especially important for you to familiarize yourself with an herb's properties before using. Finally, there is a wonderful resource section that includes contact information for herbs and natural products, bulk herbs, educational resources and much more. This is a good indication of a book's serious intent and solid background of subject material. There are three chicken soup recipes that include organic, free range chickens and one that includes oysters and two more that include butter and honey. Other than that, all of the recipes are vegan and there are 101 recipes in the book to choose from!
