3 out of 5 stars Yay!.......2007-10-10

Finally released! This has every song on the OBC Recording and it sounds wonderful! It is extremely difficult to play though, as most Sondheim music is.

5 out of 5 stars Great reference material.......2007-05-19

The vocal score for "Into the Woods," while not practical for use at the piano due to the nature of the binding, is a terrific study aid for those interested in analyzing Sondheim's brilliant work. I recommend it to anyone wishing to enhance his or her understanding and appreciation of the piece.

5 out of 5 stars Good value.......2007-01-05

Good condition, received fast. It's great, it's Sondheim, what else can I say?

5 out of 5 stars Generous and Wonderful.......2005-08-31

Being one who always wanted to audition using the Witch's song or the Baker's Wife's song, I am delighted and grateful to Sondheim and Co. for putting out this amazing vocal score. The effort to do so must have been incredible. My only wish, not complaint, is that the chords were also represented by "C" or "Dmaj7" so that I could play along as I sing. I can read music, but if I have to play piano chords by sight only, it takes me days to finger it one note at a time. Well, that's probably my fault - practice, practice, practice! Anyway, it's quite a thorough job and now I have audition pieces galore! Only hope the accompanists can play it!

5 out of 5 stars grrrrreat!.......2005-08-03

The musical score was in tip top shape and it came to my house in perfect timing for me to be able to use it for a local production. thank you.

Book Description

Stephen Hannock is considered one of the top American landscape painters working today. Represented in major international collections and reflecting a Romantic tradition that dates back to the Hudson River School, his majestic works are renowned for their extraordinarily luminous quality—an iridescence that is achieved through his signature technique of sandpaper-polished oil on canvas. The hushed reverie of earth and sky that is captured in these hauntingly evocative paintings echoes the idyllic grandeur of such forebears as J.M.W. Turner, Albert Pinkham Ryder, and Louis Remy Mignot, among other nineteenth-century masters. The Academy Award he shared for his landscapes on the film What Dreams May Come has enabled Hannock—a craftsman in an art all too rare—to reach an even wider audience. Reawakening one of the most significant styles of American painting, Stephen Hannock illuminates in this beautiful compendium the glorious wonder of the landscape around us.

The painings shown in this book are clearly the work of a master at the height of his career. This book is a testament to this great talent. I am a collector of Hannock's paintings. Several are illustrated and I can attest to the acccuracy of the colors.Congratulations to Stephen and Chronicle Books for an extraordinary accomplishment.

Book Description

The days of carrying monster packs into the wilderness are officially over!

New Book Completely Redefines How to Enjoy Backcountry Travel

---

"Backpacking should be comfortable, safe, and fun."

So say the backcountry experts at Backpacking Light Magazine in their new book, Lightweight Backpacking & Camping: A Field Guide to Wilderness Equipment, Technique, and Style. And they should know: Backpacking Light Magazine is recognized as the outdoor industry's leading authority in lightweight hiking and backcountry travel, and has helped thousands of outdoor enthusiasts discover the joy of going light.

"The notion that you need to carry 40 or 50 pounds of gear into the backcountry to be comfortable and safe is absolutely ridiculous," says the book's Editor, Ryan Jordan, who is also the Publisher of Backpacking Light Magazine and the outdoor industry's chief proselytizer of today's exploding lightweight backpacking movement. "Gear manufacturers continue to contaminate the market with too much gear that is overbuilt, overdesigned, overpriced, and overweight. Backpackers deserve to be told the other side of the story: that you can do more with less, and that a pack weight of less than 15 pounds (not including food and water) is easily accessible even to beginners."

A book about lightweight backpacking should be smart, fat, and heavy.

This new book redefines modern day backpacking as safe, comfortable, and fun - but with a much lighter pack. And, it doesn't take a casual approach to the topic: 436 pages of content educate backcountry users of all levels about the gear and technique required to make them experts.

Lightweight Backpacking & Camping fills major gaps in existing outdoor literature by offering:

- Multiple, balanced perspectives that appeal to a wide range of experiences, skills, and personal styles.

- In-depth content that provides basic, intermediate, and advanced discussions of skills that grow with the reader.

- Up-to-date information about the best lightweight gear and apparel, including the manufacturers that make it and the retailers that carry it.

Lightweight Backpacking & Camping is the most comprehensive and rigorous text ever published on the subject. In addition to chapters about gear and basic skills, consider its more advanced topics: why the biomechanics of walking justifies the use of running shoes instead of boots; how an examination of thermoregulation science suggests why today's high-tech synthetic clothing is too heavy and poorly engineered; how super-ultralight backpacking with a five pound pack can allow someone in average physical condition to hike a 30 mile day, and why some inclement weather conditions can be ideally suited for sleeping under an ultralight tarp, rather than a heavy tent.

Lightweight Backpacking & Camping not only sets the standard for backcountry education, it raises the bar to heights never before seen in the outdoor industry. Unlike other texts, Lightweight Backpacking & Camping justififes its claims with good science, proper technique, and rationale discussions: not marketing, hyperbole, and guesswork.

Yes, lightweight backpacking works for everyone.

Lightweight backpacking (often, with a pack weight of less than 20 pounds) is the fastest growing trend in backpacking. Going light makes backcountry hiking more accessible to families, Boy Scouts, and aging baby boomers - groups normally excluded from enjoying the backcountry because of their inability to carry absurdly heavy backpacks.

Lightweight Backpacking & Camping is targeted not only to "heavy school" backpackers trying to get the motorhome off their back, but also to advanced wilderness travelers trying to do more with less. To that end, the volume is as well-suited for beginning hikers as it is to elite mountain athletes.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars The most advanced book on the subject.......2007-08-13

This the best book on the subject. I think the detail is a bit too much for the novice. "Lighten Up" is a better introductory work, but the depth offered here is without comparison. I loved it all except for the detail on walking. Either I don't have the patience/intellect, or it's just a bit too much. All that said, it truly is the best book on the subject, and I learned an incredible amount from it.

3 out of 5 stars Heavy on the basics, light on specifics.......2007-08-01

For those who are skeptical that backpacking relatively comfortably while carrying less weight is possible, this book does a pretty good job of making the case for dropping the extra pounds. However, if you're already convinced that lightweight or ultra lightweight backpacking is the way to go, this book feels a lot like preaching to choir.

I've been a lightweight convert for two years, and I bought this book hoping to learn some advice and techniques to shave my pack weight down even further. While the book has some useful specifics on some topics (I now swear by the bear bagging technique I learned from it, and the first aid section is very good), I found that it mostly lacked the level of detail I was looking for.

The essays all talk about how great going lightweight is and drool over expensive boutique gear. Indeed, there is a distinctly worshipful tone when discussing the latest carbon fiber and silnylon technologies. The book promotes a lot of very high end equipment while remaining seemingly oblivious to far less expensive alternatives that offer minimal performance compromises. But nothing really goes into specifics beyond what you could find on the internet for free. For example, the book extols the virtues of using a tarp tent, and has pictures of several brands, but provides only vague information on how to actually pitch one correctly, or how to pitch one when there aren't any trees while keeping it stable.

It seems obvious to me that carrying 20lbs would be better than carrying 50, I no longer need to be convinced. I was looking for more technical information and this book just didn't have it.

Also, the book is really just a collection of essays, many of which were written for Ryan Jordan's magazine/web site Backpacking Light, and as a result the book lacks a consistent voice and tone. The essays are also not really organized in an intuitive way.

Ryan Jordan also seems obsessed with light weight for light weight's sake, rather than as a means to add enjoyment to your backpacking experience. Sure it possible to get your pack weight down to 5lbs, if you're willing to shell out lots of money for lightweight fabrics and gear that's often not versatile and that you will probably have to replace every season because of its lack of durability. This might give you bragging rights at the trailhead, but I question if its really worth the added expense and inconvenience over say, a 15 pound pack, which is less weight than the average middle schooler carries every day, and can be acquired much less expensively.

This book has some useful ideas and recommendations on gear, so I'd recommend it to anyone who is interested in learning about lightweight backpacking for the first time, which is why I'm giving it three stars. If you've already shed some pounds from your pack, or are trying to enjoy the outdoors on a fixed budget, there are better and more detailed books out there, like The Complete Walker IV or Ray Jardine's Beyond Backpacking.

5 out of 5 stars Handy "How To" Guide.......2007-03-24

Backpackers who hope to lighten their load will find valuable information in this book. I did. I was impressed with the author's experience, knowledge and research. He clearly offers a unique perspective on the art and science of lightweight backpacking. With the current technology available I am also convinced that the days of 30+ pound backpacks are over when one is heading out for a week on the trail.

2 out of 5 stars Not for the average Backpacker wanting to pack lighter........2007-01-31

This is not a useful book for the eastern Backpacker, who has been carrying 55-60 lb. on the AT and wants to reduce his pack to a 20-25 lb. pack load, without going to the poor house in the process. The book lacks personality and feelings about why we backpack.

This is a highly analytical book on the technical aspects of Lightweight Backpacking in the west. Be less clinical and enjoy the experience a little more. This book is for those who mainly buy at the high end and at a few select sources. It is also assumes that most backpackers live or pack near or west of the continental divide. It does not mention our many fine supply houses in the east, nor the different environments we encounter in the east.

5 out of 5 stars Ye Tome of Knowledge.......2007-01-27

After purchasing several books on backpacking, I was starting to come to the conclusion that most books simply were written by an author with the idea of pushing their own ideas of backpacking. Everything had this slant, but I decided to give Lightweight Backpacking and Camping a shot. I'm so glad I did.

First, with all the various authors, you get different perspectives on ultralight backpacking. No one approach is necessarily the right way, and different views and tones in thier writings help to cement that idea.

Second, this isn't necessarily a "gear guide" type book with listings of what gear to buy. While there are suggestions, they comprise a small amount of the text, which instead focuses on the meat of ultralight backpacking.

While it is true that a previous reviewer, Andrew Skurka works for Ryan Jordan, what he says is no less accurate. It is, quite simply, the best book out there for ultralight backpacking. Further, it works well for the beginner backpacker or the advanced hiker like Andrew.

Now, despite the five star rating, it's not without some flaws. First, one company seems to get top billing in most all of the gear suggestions, though admittedly they tend to be the lightest gear out there. Second, as another review said, there is no index, which makes looking up information a bit more difficult. Still, to me these are insufficient to rate this text as less than a five. Style issues in the layout and a brand preference I don't necessarily share are minor things not worth considering in my opinion.

5 out of 5 stars THIS COLLECTION IS BUT A HINT OF THE MAN'S GENIUS.......2007-09-02

I grew up listening to Tom Lehrer's records (played on our Victrola). And, although I wasn't worldly enough to understand some of the more perverse lyrics, my sister and I would belt out his songs with great enthusiasm. The fact that, as a kindergartner, I stood up and sang one of his compositions during "show and tell" is a testimony to...uh...something...I'm not quite sure. However, I clearly remember my mother's horror at being called by my teacher about the content of my presentation. Years later we could both laugh. Thank God Mrs. Ernstein had a good sense of humor. Thank God too that CPS was not in existence in the early 60s.

My point? Mr/Dr (never was sure of his academic title) Lehrer's ability to put into song politically incorrect "We don't talk about it" issues made me a fan for life. My own children have gotten a healthy dose of his humor, and compare him to Weird Al and others of their generation. Weird Al has a long way to go before he can hope to eclipse the senator of sarcasm.

So, for those of you with a bit of a twisted sense of humor (and the ability to read music/play the piano), this is a great piece of musical history, psycho sing-along material, and a chance to keep one man's sense of the ridiculous alive.

P.S. I was never called by any teacher regarding the contents of my children's musical presentations. Live and learn.

5 out of 5 stars Loads of fun.......2007-03-14

Hilarious and dark songs by the master of musical gallows humor. The song choices are extensive and well picked. Only complaint is that Lobachevsky and New Math don't have chords/scores for large portions, just the lyrics.

4 out of 5 stars You can never have too many Tom Lehrer songs!.......2007-01-23

I bought the song book along with "The Remains of Tom Lehrer" (three CD's and a biographical book). A great purchase for us dead-hard Lehrer fans.

I was delighted that I bought the song book as I can now sing (out of tune) and strum my guitar (rather badly) to many of his infamous songs and annoy the hell out of my children.

4 out of 5 stars tom lehrer book.......2006-11-11

good book, great choice of repertoire- his sonds are a bit grisly but perfect if you need something to wake the audience up! definitely got my money's worth.

4 out of 5 stars So long mom, I'm off to drop the bomb, so don't wait up for me.......2006-08-14

Yes, this is the book you definitely want to have! Every Tom Lehrer song you can think of--and probably many you can't-are here in a fairly easy piano format. If you can't play piano, you can probably read the lyrics. If you can't read the lyrics, you're probably not reading this, but you can still see the drawings by Ronald Searle, which are pretty funny in their own right. If you can't see the drawings by Ronald Searle, I can't help you.

The lyrics are also contained, of course. And besides the satirical songs Mr. Lehrer recorded in the sixties, the book also contains the songs he wrote for the Electric Company in the seventies, like "Silent E" ("Who can turn a can, into a cane", etc.) and "L-Y".

The only problem I have with this book is that I believe all music books that are meant to be used for playing instruments should be spiral bound or otherwise fixed such that they don't fall apart. Since this one has a regular glued binding, of course after a few rounds with "A Song for World War III" and "New Math", all the pages fell out. So to the publisher: please make a spiral bound edition! Then I will give this book 5 stars!

    Book Description

In this unique and readable study, Jon Finson views the mores and values of nineteenth-century Americans as they appear in their popular songs. The author sets forth lyricists' and composers' notions of courtship, technology, death, African Americans, Native Americans, and European ethnicity
by grouping songs topically. He goes on to explore the interaction between musical style and lyrics within each topic. The lyrics and changing musical styles present a vivid portrait of nineteenth-century America. The composers discussed in the book range from Henry Russell ("Woodman, Spare That
Tree"), Stephen Foster ("Oh! Susanna"), and Dan Emmett ("I Wish I Was in Dixie's Land"), to George M. Cohan and Maude Nugent ("Sweet Rosie O'Grady"), and Gussie Lord Davis ("In the Baggage Coach Ahead"). Readers will recognize songs like "Pop Goes the Weasel," "The Yellow Rose of Texas," "The
Fountain in the Park," "After the Ball," "A Bicycle Built for Two," and many others which gain significance by being placed in the larger context of American history.

    Book Description

Stylized dance music and music based on dance rhythms pervade Bach's compositions. The original edition of this addressed works that bore the names of dances--a considerable corpus. In this expanded version of their practical and insightful study, Meredith Little and Natalie Jenne apply the same principals to the study of a great number of Bach's works that use identifiable dance rhythms but do not bear dance-specific titles.

    Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Dance and the Music of J.S. Bach, Expanded Ed........2007-01-05

Only book of its kind - especially for the serious musician and performer.

4 out of 5 stars Dance rhythms and Bach's music.......2006-08-21

This book provides a fine survey of the rhythms associated with the most prevalant Baroque dances. Although stylized dance pieces and other instrumental works beyond the dance hall might not strictly follow the rhythm of the original dance, this book provides a solid grounding for any person interested in the topic and wishing to flexibly apply dance rhythms to their own interpretations of Bach's music. Thus, this book is important to any performers serious about playing Baroque music and especially Bach's.

I recommend the book for its information but also because it is so easy to read.

4 out of 5 stars Interesting background for musicians, but be careful.......2005-04-11

It certainly broadens one's knowledge and appreciation to study the physical dances that so much of Bach's instrumental music was based on. But there's a difference between music written to literally accompany dance and music stylized in the form of dances, meant primarily for listening. Bach did not play Saturday night dance gigs in Leipsig nor did Chopin play his waltzes in Parisian ballrooms. Tempos (and flexibility within those tempos) need not be based on realistic assumptions of how people may have actually danced bourees and minuets. There were enough differences in style among Italian, French and German strains of late Baroque music (and dance) that one should be cautious about any definitive rules here. That being said, the book is well written, illustrated and an interesting read.

5 out of 5 stars Bach and Baroque dance.......2002-04-30

This book is a must for all serious performers of Bach's music. It is the only book that details not only of most of the dances that appear in Bach's works, but provides a fundamental vocabulary for a discussion of rhythm. After that has been provided, dances are discussed with clarity and precision, with a wealth of original sources for the reader. There is nothing on the market like it.

Waterworks is not a guide for the do-it-yourselfer. Rather, Waterworks is a love letter to what is presumably the author's favorite room--a justification of that peculiar but widespread obsession that provokes the purchase of fancy lotions and potions, rich terry-cloth towels, and scented candles, and that stimulates dreams of oversized bathtubs and vintage-tile back splashes. According to Barbara Sallick, the mechanics of the bathroom are best left in the hands of experienced contractors--and, herself a professional bath designer and supplier, that approach is only to be expected. In no other room in the house, to be sure, is one in such close physical contact with permanent, immovable, functional fixtures and fittings: sink (called lavatory here), toilet (water closet), and bath (well, just bath). While those elements must be chosen with great care by the people who are to use them every day, they must be installed flawlessly, and professionals are the ones to do that.

Sallick's book won't help you lay out a bathroom floor plan, install a shower, or choose tiles (though her brief glossary of terms provides the language one might need in order to communicate with a subcontractor). It will, however, help you figure out exactly what you want, organizing those grandiose dreams into something a contractor will understand. Here are some things you'll want, after reading the Waterworks bath supplier co-owner's book: handcrafted (most definitely handcrafted) faucet handles, an antique enameled medicine cabinet, creamy bone hair comb and blond-wood shaving brush, glass canisters for cotton balls and swabs, marble and lots of it, exposed plumbing under a vintage lavatory basin, and perhaps a towel warmer. The bathrooms featured here, whether that be the large ones or the small, glorious, luxurious, or austere, are not for the faint of budget. --Liana Fredley

5 out of 5 stars A great addition to your decorating library.......2002-04-27

This book gets into the nooks and crannies of bathroom decorating. Details are abound and you end up learning more than you ever thought you would about the bathroom. From tiles to apothecary, nothing is overlooked. The rooms pictured are flawless. This will not disappoint! A+++

5 out of 5 stars The best bath book.......2001-06-06

Waterworks is one of the best bath books I have ever seen from a teaching standpoint. The book offers great advice about selecting fixtures, a variety of surfaces and adding accessories among others. Every aspect of designing the perfect bathroom is covered in the right amount of detail. I especially loved the section, "finding creative storage solutions" in a bathroom and the images complement each section to truly bring the bathroom descriptions alive. A must have for anyone trying to remodel a bathroom. Also makes for a great "coffee table" book, sure to start an evening of fun conversations.

      Book Description

Anyone can learn these simple and fun methods for producing outstanding watercolor landscapes and flowers. One of the reasons that Roland's first book has been so popular (Fill Your Watercolors with Light & Color--over 65,000 copies sold) is that his techniques make watercolor fun and successful for a great number of otherwise frustrated artists.

Roland has a gift for simplifying the process of painting into a few readily understood steps. In this book, he expands the teaching of his pouring technique and goes into the underlying structure of a painting. He presents a unique way of teaching composition that will delight the reader. He then presents his three-step process of painting a landscape--masking to preserve the lights, pouring on the atmosphere and spattering the textures. Next, he shows two great techniques for painting flowers, a subject that does not appear in his first book. Also included is a chapter of fun experimental techniques that readers are sure to enjoy and another chapter that answers some frequently asked questions.

      * Enables any artist to produce landscapes and flowers, two of the most popular painting subjects
      * This author has a proven sales track record

It was a surprise when the book was delivered in a couple days, I had expected a week. It is in superb condition. Impressive seller and delivery.

4 out of 5 stars Nice loose painting.......2003-08-19

This is a nice book for soft landscapes. However, I don't use it nearly as much as I thought I would. Check out the authors style first, and if you really like it...then the book is for you. I use some techniques, but the subject matter is a little soft for me. I didn't stay interested enought to use the lessons, but I did read it through and apply concepts to some of my own work.

5 out of 5 stars These techniques are nothing short of fantastic!.......2001-12-24

I love these books by Roycraft. If you love painting landscape or natural subjects, you cannot go wrong reading this book. Roycraft's techniques look simple (a lot of splashing going on) but they are controlled and well thought out. If you love floral painting you should not miss his examples here of a peony and an iris. JUST Breathtaking. I picked up so many ideas from this book.

Not only are Roycraft's paintings beautiful to see, he knows how to communicate his techniques incredibly well. I'm glad I found this watercolor artist's books.

5 out of 5 stars A power tool for watercolorists.......2001-08-09

Having read "enough" art technique books, I have learned that until one gets "down and dirty" trying out what is discussed in the book, then one does not actually spend the money wisely (on the book).

The same for this book. Beautiful artwork by the author. Did I say beautiful? No, BREATHTAKING, rather. However, to be able to generate beautiful artworks, the readers will need the following:

      - An ability to SEE (light, dark, positive and negative space)

      - Follow instructions from the book (which is PROBABLY the easy part, since it is rather well-written)

      - A decent craftsmanship to finesse the final painting after the "mask and pour paints" phase of the process.

Briefly, I would think this is a power tool for watercolorists. How great the final products turn out to be will depend on the aforementioned factors.

      HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Love Potion # 9 by Joann Ross

Roxi Dupree is a witch. She lives in Savannah where she owns a store called Hex Appeal. Sloan Hawthorne is a movie director living in California. They are both friends with Emma and Gabriel Broussard but have never met. Roxi has been having intense erotic dreams lately starring a very handsome mystery man. Sloan has been thinking and dreaming of Roxi after seeing her in a picture that Emma sent him. Sloan has decided that he needs to meet Roxi, so with Emma's help he is coming to Savannah to meet his dream woman.

Roxi is everything Sloane dreamed of and more but she is putting restrictions on their relationship right off the bat. Sloan intends to show Roxi that the magic between them is uncontrollable.

I needed a breather after reading Love Potion # 9. I assumed it would be sexy and romantic but I didn't know that Sloan was going to blow my mind with his mastery in the bedroom! Roxi is responsive and extremely passionate with Sloan. Her reasoning for being so adamant about not committing to him at first was a little weak though. Love Potion # 9 is intense, erotic and romantic.

Midnight Plane To Georgia by E.C. Sheedy

Tracy Allson is going to Parasol, Georgia, to help her uncle Tommy start a bed and breakfast. She is headed out on the red-eye.

Colson Jones is taking the same red-eye flight to Atlanta. Waiting in the airport for the plane he and Tracy gazes lock and the sparks fly! Once on board they make the connection again and the next thing Colson knows he is headed to Parasol with Tracy.

Once there, Tracy and Colson decide to take things further, but will their plan to be lovers for a short time be foiled if they start falling for each other?

Midnight Plane To Georgia is a sweet and sexy story. Although Tracy tries, Colson proves very hard to resist with his oozing charm and sex appeal. I probably would have caved a lot sooner! I admired Tracy's need to protect her heart and I loved Colson's persistence. Midnight Plane To Georgia is a fun and sexy story.

Fall From Grace by Jill Shalvis

Janie Mills is struggling to get away from the stranger holding her down. Janie thought she killed him but she hadn't and now he is demanding to know who she is.

Ryan Patrick was in the library trying to find his missing client when he was attacked by the librarian. They are both trying to discover the other's identity. Things get dangerous quickly because someone is after Janie, so Ryan stays by her side to protect her. Throughout the night Janie and Ryan become close and Ryan moves from protector to lover but when the dust settles, will they go their separate ways?

Fall From Grace is a fun, suspenseful story with action, drama and sex filling up the pages. Ryan and Janie make a great team. Ryan is sexy and in control and Janie is vulnerable but strong. There are some surprises, hot passion and thrilling getaway's in Fall From Grace. It's a great story!

Bad Boys Southern Style offers a variety of terrific stories. Love Potion # 9 smolders with passion, Midnight Plane To Georgia is romantic and tender and Fall From Grace is action packed and hot. You can't go wrong with this anthology!

5 out of 5 stars Sensual Southern Bad Boys.......2006-07-23

Love Potion by Joann Ross is the first story by this author that I had read and I was pleasantly surprised. Superbly written, it is the sensual tale of Roxi Dupree, a witch with a commitment problem and a three date rule and Sloan Hawthorne, a Southern bad boy who put the sex in sexual. Roxi is the type of heroine that I like - full of sass, intelligence and humor. Sloan is a wonderful hero and Roxi's equal, strong and determined to have this witch for his own. This story was enough to put me on the hunt for more of her books.

Midnight Plane to Georgia by E.C. Sheedy was another surprise as I was not familiar with this author. Tracy Mae Allson has "yessed" herself into a rut. This people-pleaser just can't say no and she's finally had enough. Grabbing the opportunity to help her uncle get a B&B together on the other side of the country, she's all set to put her life in order. Workaholic Colson Jones doesn't have time for a personal life, just drive-by sex between jobs, but he's made an exception for Tracy. And when he falls in love can he get Tracy to revert to her "yessing" ways? Great story.

Fall from Grace by Jill Shalvis is, in my opinion, the best story in this anthology. Janie Mills flees from a past that could get her killed. Changing her name, she finds a new life in Grace, Georgia as the town librarian. One night she's attacked by the town's leading citizen and fights back, only to discover that the man she's leveled with a library book isn't the one she was running from. Ryan Peterson is a P.I. with a headache, a wildcat on his hands and a missing client. The last thing he needs is a growing attraction to the mysterious Janie. Can he get her to trust him before somebody kills her? This story is a must read.

4 out of 5 stars fun Bad Boys Georgia anthology.......2006-07-05

"Love Potion #9" by JoAnn Ross. Hollywood comes to Savannah to film the Morganna the witch movie. The flick brings Sloan the Hollywood hunk to the Georgia city where he meets Hex Appeal shop owner Roxi. Neither needs witchcraft to be attracted to one another, but a love spell could not hurt.

"Midnight Plane to Georgia" by E.C. Sheedy. Tracy leaves Seattle for a short stay in Parasol, Georgia to start over as her life is in a computer art graphics rut especially with her inability to say no to friends and family. She plans to be "no no Nanette", but writer Colson boards the same plane and knows what he wants, which is Tracey saying "yes yes" like Sally in Harry meets Sally.

"Fall from Grace" by Jill Shalvis. When the lights went out in Georgia, librarian Janie realizes that Clayton is lunging towards her. She grabs the Concise Oxford English dictionary in a way she never would have dreamed of slamming it on his head. When the lights return to the town of Grace, Janie realizes that someone else is on the library floor. She knocked out P.I. Ryan with one blow. When he recovers he realizes that he now has two cases to work with, winning the courageous heart of the battling librarian being the more important one.

Though geographically Bad Boys Georgia style is more accurate, the latest anthology is a delightful collection that readers of the series like this reviewer will enjoy. Each of the couples makes wonderful matches as the guys work overtime to prove their love, loyalty and longing for the women they love.

5 out of 5 stars Steamy Summer Reading!!.......2006-06-28

LOVE POTION #9 by JoAnn Ross--Roxi Dupree, the owner of Hex Appeal in the heart of historic Savannah, reluctantly agrees to give Hollywood filmmaker Sloan Hawthorne a little history lesson about the main character in his latest movie. The two immediately realize that they have shared the same intimate dream and their relationship needs no magic or witchcraft to force an attraction. Roxi is fiercely independent and is reluctant to share herself with Sloan. Sloan finds himself bewitched by Roxi and wants much more of her than her standard three date rule will allow. Convincing her that his feelings for her are very real may require more patience and effort than putting together a blockbuster hit.*******
MIDNIGHT PLANE TO GEORGIA by E. C. Sheedy--Tracy Allson decides that helping her uncle run his B&B in Georgia will give her the break she needs before setting out on a fresh career path. Little does she know that she will end up hooking up with the gorgeous guy she locks eyes with across the crowded airport. When she arrives at the B&B, her uncle is gone, leaving the house in her hands, which also places Colson Jones in her care, seeing how a change in his travel plans has given him several free days and he decides to stay at the B&B. After the two work on sprucing up the dilapidated house, spending every moment - waking and otherwise - together, they effortlessly strike up an affair hotter than the Georgia sun. When Colson has to leave to continue on his business trip, he finds it's not business as usual trying to convince Tracy to take a chance on a future with him.*******
FALL FROM GRACE by Jill Shalvis--Janie Mills starts a new life as a librarian in Grace, Georgia, after witnessing her brother murder her cousin over a bad drug deal one year ago. When PI Ryan Patrick shows up at the library at closing time, sneaking up behind her, the frightened Janie attacks him with a dictionary, fearful for her life. When the two stop scuffling, they hear a gunshot and find one of the town's most beloved men lying dead on the floor. After all of this excitement, Janie's apartment is found to have been ransacked, causing Ryan to take Janie to his island home. These two are immediately on the fast track to spontaneous combustion, completely helpless in their attraction for each other. Despite one surprise after another involving some of the most esteemed members of Grace, Ryan is hopeful that Janie will agree to begin her life anew one more time, this time with him being a permanent part of it.*******
This is a wonderfully fun anthology. Being a huge fan of the south, I especially enjoyed the Georgia settings. I highly recommend including these bad boys in your beach bag - you won't be disappointed in this fun summer read!
