Fans of the National Geographic Channel's The Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan will be grateful for Cesar's Way, an accessible guide to help new and current dog owners better understand the needs of their beloved pets. If you are not yet a fan, try to catch a couple of episodes of the remarkable show--you will be amazed, impressed, and motivated to create a healthier, more fulfilling relationship with your dog. In Cesar's Way, Cesar explains that dogs are not complicated, and despite what various owners think--not human. They rely on three key elements in their lives: exercise, discipline, and affection (in that order). "Problem dogs" can be attributed to "problem owners," owners who don't understand and misinterpret their dog's behavior. Cesar's Way is really a training program for dog owners, with chapters devoted to understanding the "power of the pack," taking responsibility for "how we screw up our dogs," and learning how to manage aggression. Cesar's book (a must-have for new and old dog owners) moves beyond basic obedience school techniques, and teaches owners how to change unwanted behavior by better understanding their "best friends." --Daphne Durham

Cesar Millan's Top 5 Tips for Going to the Dog Park
1. Make sure your dog is spayed or neutered, has all her shots, and is in good health. Under no circumstances should you bring a sick dog to a dog park!
2. Do not use the dog park as a substitute for the walk! If you drive to the park, leave your car a block away and take your dog on a vigorous walk of at least thirty-five minutes to drain some of her energy. Never take an over-excited dog to the park.
3. While at the park, don't "punch out" on your calm-assertive leadership. Be aware of your dog at all times, and take responsibility for her behavior.
4. A calm-submissive dog will not attract another dog's aggression--but an excited dog, a weak, timid dog, or an aggressive dog can become a fight-magnet.
5. Know your dog! If your dog has poor social skills, is overly fearful or is dog aggressive, or if you have not yet established your calm-assertive leadership with your dog, find a more controlled way to introduce her to the company of other dogs, such as "play dates" with one or two other dog owners.

“I rehabilitate dogs. I train people.” —Cesar Millan
There are at least 68 million dogs in America, and their owners lavish billions of dollars on them every year. So why do so many pampered pets have problems? Cesar’s formula for a contented and balanced dog seems impossibly simple: exercise, discipline, and affection, in that order. Taking readers through the basics of dog psychology and behavior, Cesar shares the inside details of some of his most fascinating cases, using them to illustrate how common behavior issues develop and, more important, how they can be corrected.
Whether you’re having issues with your dog or just want to make a good bond even stronger, this book will give you a deeper appreciation of how your dog sees the world, and it will help make your relationship with your beloved pet a richer and more rewarding one.

great book.......2007-10-07
Very interesting book. I recommend it. It is more in depth than the television show and he also talks about his life in it.
Cesar shows how naive most pet owners are.......2007-10-06
From the sympathetic crocodile lover neighborhood in Florida that got a gardener killed because they passed laws against extracting crocs from their neighborhood to the San Francisco mother that got her child killed by her pitbull, Cesar shows the naive and stupid world of pet lovers and owners that these beasts are still amoral creatures, not moral understanding humans. As Cesar said in the Oprah Winfrey show, the biggest mistake most pet owners make is to humanize their animals and that's what gets them in trouble. According to Cesar, it's not that animals are better or lesser than humans, it's just they are not human.
I love Cesar!.......2007-10-04
This book is an easy read. It gives a fair amount of background as to how Cesar Millan got his start as well as the method behind his madness. Anecdotes and straight-forward advice give the reader some general ideas as to how they might curb certain pet behavior issues. You can agree or disagree with Cesar's training methods, but you have to admit the guy genuinely cares about AND has a way with both dogs and people.
vague.......2007-10-02
Though his basic ideas make sense, the book fails in that it never gets around to specifics. For example, Cesar tells you never to let your dog go in the door first. OK, fine...but how? Never let your dog walk ahead of you on the leash. OK, fine...but how? What can you actually do to stop the dog from going ahead of you? If you are like me, and are having problems with a dog that is physically stronger than you are, this book will not be very helpful. After reading this book I still have no idea how I'm supposed to hold back an exuberant and powerful animal so I can walk ahead of her.
Cesar Milan- the dog Magician.......2007-09-26
Cesar Millan, is THE DOG MAGICIAN!! He has a rare, very gifted way of just knowing what is 'inside a dogs head'! Most of us humans do not have this. The book is excellent and will help many of us dog lovers to understand our wee dog friends better and give them a better life!! By Sheena from Scotland.

Helpful.......2007-09-30
This book was purchased for me to help set up a business plan for self-serve dog wash with employees. I was not impressed with some of the ideas that were mentioned in the book regarding the design and style of cards to send to the customers to encourage continued business. Overall, this book was helpful and it sparked my own ideas.
Pet Grooming.......2007-05-15
Not exactly what I was looking for. Thought it would have more of example business plans in it. Good starter book for the Pet grooming.
From Problems to Profits Succeeds.......2004-08-10
This is the definitive book on the "business side" of grooming. Why another reviewer here would say to refer to Notes From The Grooming Table doesn't make sense. It's a great book on the "how to groom side" of grooming and is not a book on the business side of grooming at all. From Problems to Profits for the business side of grooming and Notes for the styling side of grooming and you have the best of the best today.
Useless for House Call or Mobile Grooming.......2004-07-18
I was recommended this book by grooming board but I found it totally useless for the mobile groomer or house call groomer. The book called "Notes from the Grooming Table" is a much better investment for the groomer in general.
The best of the best for grooming........2003-12-23
I visited the office of this author today and asked if I could write a review, and they put me online here so here I am. At first I thought this book was the biography of the author. It's not. It's her system she used to go from a tiny salon to a major pet salon. No matter how small or large a grooming shop you want, you can do it. I was so impressed look at me, I came to visit the author and what a warm welcome I was given. I bet her 5,000 pet owner clients loved her as much as me. This is a classic and many books on how to for any type of service business could take a lesson from the format of this book. If you are going to own a grooming small or large there are so many gems of info in this book. I am so impressed and feel so great about my future as a grooming business owner.

Its good......NOT great.......2007-09-27
It is a good book, especially if you like to color.....but that is the only great thing about it. It lacks important detail, thus it is a coloring book only!
A Colouring Atlas of Dog Anatomy.......2007-09-22
I am extremely happy with the purchase of this particular book. As a student of Animal Bowen Therapy, I require information that is explanatory and easy to understand. This book is all of that and more. The pictures are simple and it is very easy to see the different aspects of the anatomy of a dog.
I received the book in wonderful timing and as always, found the transaction to be easy and non fuss. I will continue to shop for my books this way as it is 9 times out of 10 the cheapest and best way to do it.

Dog Anatomy A Coloring Atlas.......2007-09-07
Beautiful pictures with clear information. This book is required for the Comparative Anatomy class that I am taking. I would highly recomend this book for any vet tech students suffering from information overload. Great help in understanding the basics.
Dog Anatomy: A Coloring Atlas.......2007-07-16
This is an excellent resource for anyone who is studying dog anatomy for any reason. Illustrations are detailed and clearly labelled. I am using this as a reference for a Canine Myotherapy certification course.
Not detailed enough for Vet Students.......2006-11-11
I am a first year veterinary student, and I bought this book thinking it would be a good tool for reviewing my anatomy. Definitely not the case!!! The book is not detailed enough to satisfy the veterinary student (at least not at Tufts!). This is especially true for the nerves and bones. I would recommed getting the Evans and deLahunta "Guide to the Dissection of the Dog" instead, and coloring in their black and white illustrations.
Book Description
Articles in Time and US News and World Reports have cited alternative medicine as the fastest-growing area in veterinary care. More than ever, pet owners are demanding facts on using these non-invasive healing methods for their pets. Author Amy Shojai has interviewed top vets across the country, including members of the Holistic Veterinary Medical Association and noted veterinarian Susan Wynn. Pet owners will learn why some vets moved away from mainstream medicine, how the "Healing Instinct" leads animals to their own natural cures, and how alternative therapies actually work. Readers will find tips for treating problems like aggression, fleas, and heart problems with accupressure, homeopathy, nutrition, herbs, exercise and traditional home remedies. Sidebars give "Alternative Success" stories and warning signs for when to call the vet. Now pet owners can be sure their pets have the same practical, holistic healing options as humans do.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent book!.......2007-06-17
This book is absolutely awesome! It begins by explaining what alternative medicine is, why pets get sick, and making the switch from allopathic to holistic medicine. It also describes, from A to Z, common ailments and how various vets treat them. There are snippets about how pets treat themselves for certain diseases, when to call the vet, and anecdotes pertaining to the ailment. It also has an extensive alternative healing resource guide.
Natural Healing.......2007-05-26
This book is full of several remedies for many different illnesses, problems, etc...
Highly recommended.
Another winner from Amy.......2005-07-22
Amy has written yet another good book for pet owners. As the trend in natural healing continues, good resources such as this book, The Natural Health Bible for Dogs & Cats, 8 Weeks to a Healthy Dog, and The Allergy Solution for Dogs serve as important sources of information for pet owners. Read this book and start learning how you can work with your doctor to keep your pet happy and healthy.
Saving my dog's life.......2005-07-06
A friend knew how my aging dog, Nina, was quite ill and that my family was not planning a second surgery, as she might not survive the operation and, besides, the mass on her liver had grown back in a year. She gave me a copy of this wonderful book, which gives options for health care. Impressed with the book, I ordered many copies and have given a copy to others who love their dogs and cats and want an option to drugs or surgery. Here it is! Nina's had extra time with her family and I have a new respect for natural healing, for pets and for people. You should buy several copies of "New Choices in Natural Healing for Dogs & Cats", so you may share the love.
Couldn't Put it Down................2002-06-25
I am in the process of learning about holistic health care for my 2 lhasa apsos and have recently purchased a few books on the subject. I started one book and set it aside to finish later. I picked up "New Choices in Natural Healing for Dogs & Cats" and couldn't put it down until I was finished! I was so impressed with the layout of such a large amount of information. This book is chock-full of great information and it is presented in a terrific format giving the read first the "The Signs" of the condition, then "The Cause" and the "The Solutions". The solutions can be numerous with the author offering different suggestions and not seeming to be biased towards any one particular holistic remedy. Directions are very clear, concise, and easily understood. Some choices mentioned are natural diet (which seems to be the first and obvious step towards better health care for an animal), natural supplements, herbal remedies, vitamins, aroma-therapy, magnet therapy, accupressure with diagrams shown, and of course, recommendations to call your vet to assist in dosage. Although you feel there is alot to learn, the information is broken down so well, it is easy to retain alot of what you read in the first go around with this book. I am sure I will be picking it up time and time again while working to get my dogs in the best possible health. Also included are some behavior problems. I guarantee you will learn some new and valuable information!
Book Description
Want to communicate more effectively with your dog? Solve a behavior problem? Do you want to become a better owner? Read on! * Common health problems and how they affect behavior * Why some people are prone to being bitten and how to prevent your dog from being the next one to bite them * Seventeen kinds of problem owners and how they influence their dogs' behavior
Customer Reviews:
Good book for those with little problems.......2007-01-06
This book is great for those with no knowledge of how dogs work. Campbell does a great job in explaining what is motivating the behavior of dogs and how to modify that behavior in simple and humane ways. I have a previous general knowledge of animal behavior - and I found the tips, tricks and methods suggested in this book were intuitive and useful. I saw adjustment in my dog's behavior after a few days. The trick with smart dogs is to get your friends to treat the dog in a manner that will assist your training process so they will generalize what they have learned (which is the problem my husband and I are having). A cute smart dog can be a real challenge! I highly suggest getting this book if you have a dog - even if you think you know everything, it's a great read.
An invaluable guide, especially for new owners.......2006-03-03
Pet owners who face dilemmas in handling or training dogs will find plenty of answers in The New Better Behavior In Dogs: A Guide To Solving All Your Dog Problems. The focus here is upon understanding the dog's psyche and needs; from what factors influence successful training routines to what causes a dog to misbehave. Various types of behavior from aggression towards babies and adults to digging and jumping on people are handled in chapters which survey all aspects of dog psychology: an invaluable guide, especially for new owners.
GREAT ! ..........2001-05-19
Just finished reading the book ... didn't take long because it's well written, entertaining and organised ... The book flows from chapter to chapter, topic to topic with nary a hitch.
The author explains how a dog thinks! ... How a dog senses & relates to the world and it's human' pack ... Most important, the author explains how a dog learns ...
Campbell's training methods are both humane and effective ... Before we can train our dogs, we have to first train ourselves, to be more understanding, to be more flexible and tolerant ...
He emphasises an uncomfortable truth ... that there are few problem dogs, and far more problem owners! His chapter on "How People & the Environment create Behaviour Problems" made my ears go red with embarrassment ...*laughs* ...
The book deals with and offers practical solutions to almost every difficult situation a dog owner is likely to encounter ... Reading this book cannot but help me become a better trainer and friend to our Beagle and Labrador ...
Indeed, dogs are amazing animals ... they don't choose us, we choose them ... and the least we can do is try and learn to understand them ... and this book will help me do that ... its gonna be an interesting if not amazing journey ...
A wonderful book ...
PS ... Campbell recommends Idris Shah's 'The Sufis' as helpful reading ... and he is absolutely correct ...
Excellent.......2000-08-19
This is another book of those wonderful ones which deal with dog
problems and reach solutions, suitable for experts and beginners. Tens
of funny (but truly meaningful) illustrations show you how your dog
translates your behavior. That's how I saw them, humorous but
true. The book covers all phases of the development of the dog, from
the day you will bring it at home, to the day you will have the
perfect dog. One phrase I made banner from this book, what I was
always supporting: "I won't tell you that dogs are 'denning'
animals, so crate training your dog is 'natural'. That's not the
truth. The only denning dog or wolf is a pregnant [one,] and when she
and the pups leave their dens, they are plainly joyful to be out of
it!" People, please keep this in mind when you read in other
books about crates for your puppy.
The book begins with firstly
understanding your dog and their behavior, and how do they think,
their natural reactions and how they learn. Aggressive behavior, how
do dogs sense their world (vision, smell, hearing, taste, touch, pain
and so forth) How they communicate, their social development from life
in the litter to the day they join a human family. In chapter six, it
deals with puppy stuff, includes a puppy behavior test, from making
your selection to the arrival at home, house training and socializing.
Puppy training includes the basic: name recognition, commands like
come, sit, stay.
The second part of the book analyzes what causes a
dog to misbehave with first the human element (I liked this one. We
confuse our little friends and then wonder why do they misbehave!!)
How health and nutrition affect the dog; here a troubleshooting is
included: physical problem - associated behavior problems. What
follows this chapter is analyzing and treating the cause of the
problem, and techniques to avoid like electrical shock devices, cages
(dogs are not birds!)
In part three the author shows how to correct
behavior problems like aggression toward owners, how to introduce
babies and new pets to the established dog, barking and how to correct
it even when you are not at home. Other behavior problems and their
solutions include car sickness, car chasing, chewing, coprophagia,
digging, escaping, fearfulness, fighting with other dogs, jumping on
people, old age problems, over protectiveness and much much more.
When I finished the book I couldn't think of any dog problem which was
not included. In fact I even read about things I never encountered
before. With humane solutions and love, the author managed to write a
perfect book which guarantees ever lasting solutions. It is perhaps
the most wonderful book I read about dog behavior and how to solve the
problems. A big thanks to Mr. Campbell

Dog Problems outlines every conceivable canine problem, from petty larceny to chronic leg lifting and fear of random objects. Benjamin offers easily executable training methods for each predicament. Cited are many encouraging examples of cured dogs, such as Cybil, the timid German shepherd who, thanks to Benjamin's training techniques, overcame her shyness by learning to take walks with strangers. Dog Problems entertains with lighthearted language and hilarious drawings of dogs in compromising situations, all without detracting from the solid, humane training techniques certain to help most problem dogs.

Unnecessary harsh corrections.......2004-01-23
I was intrigued by the title of this book, since I come into contact with all sorts of dogs regularly and am often asked advice about issues like possession guarding, dog-on-dog aggression, etc. However, the advice in this book is by no means anything I would ever pass on. Most issues are dealt with by correcting the dog harshly, shaking him, dragging him by the leash, and similar awful methods. The author's 'cure' for a dog that growls and snaps from under the bed is to daftly drag him out by the lead, and if he happens to bang his head on the way out, so much the better! She advises owners of dogs with fear aggression towards strangers to severly reprimand the dog with voice and leash corrections every time he becomes agitated around another person. This is a ridiculous way to 'help' your dog and will most likely only make the aversion worse. I noticed that Ms. Benjamin has also written a book that claims to use positive training methods, but unless her philosophy has changed from one book to the other, I would not recommend any of her material to anyone else. There are plenty of truly humane training guides out there, don't waste your money on this.
a must for all first time dog owners.......2003-02-01
This is an excellent source for all first time dog owners and should be purchased and read, along with Benjamin's other book--Mother Knows Best--before the dog is purchased. Little problems remain small when dealt with quickly and efficently using methods that dogs understand. Training right from the beginning is the key. Benjamin also tells how to fix a problem before it becomes worse. I have had dogs for over 40 years--terriers--and can testify to the success of Benjamin's methods.
This is an excellent book.......2000-07-18
This is an excellent book for people who have mild or moderate dog problems. It is well written with a sense of humor, and with insight into the behavior of dogs. It is a book by a professional trainer, not for professional trainers.
Carol Lea Benjamin does not advocate punishment. In fact, she advises to NEVER hit your dog. Appropriately correcting a dog is not a punishment any more than appropriately correcting a child when they run into a street is a punishment. In addition to describing how to properly correct your dog, she points out human behaviors that inadvertantly encourage dog problems, when and how to use praise to encourage positive behavior, how to redirect behavior, and that sometimes, we can eliminate a bad behavior just by removing the trigger.
Could have been Better.......2000-03-03
If you have a aggressive dog who is over 10 pounds and need some seriouse help or advice, I would advise purchasing another book, this trainers advice for everything was grab the dog by the collar and shake it while saying NO NO NO. I have read better books..
A good sense of writing humor.......2000-01-09
This was a well-written book aimed more at the novice dog-owner or someone who's experiencing a problem they've not experienced before. The book is written with a good sense of humor; for example, her final comment about ticks. She also recognizes that there are some "problems" that can not be solved, they are just part of being a dog, while other problems that people say are just part of being a dog can be solved. I enjoyed the book and have started trying her method on my German Shepherd, who back-talks as bad as any teenager when told to do something.
Book Description
This best-selling, practical book on behavior therapy offers easily-accessible information in a user-friendly approach. With this essential handbook, veterinarians don't need to be behavior specialists to provide optimum care for clients with behavior problems. The 2nd edition provides at-a-glance solutions to common behavior problems, offering updated information on preventive and basic counseling advice, as well as new material on the link between genetics and behavior. All treatment protocols have been drawn from and text and compiled into a convenient appendix in the back of the book. Staff responsibilities and the team approach to behavior counseling are also discussed.

Not bad, but would like something better..........2006-02-23
I bought this book for a behavior elective I am taking in veterinary school. The book is very well organized with the first part of the book discussing behavior in general and familiarizing the reader with behavior terminology and different types of treatments and prevention (socialization, pharmacological intervention, and diet to name a few). The second half of the book targets more individual problems for dogs and then cats. The beginning of each chapter is clearly labeled with the contents to be found in the chapter, making the book very easy to navigate.
Each individual behavior issue is outlined with a short introduction including a definition of the problem and is then followed by short sections of "Diagnosis and Prognosis", "Management", "Prevention" and then a "Case Example". Key information for each behavior problem (if available) is highlighted in blue boxes at the end of the problem.
I really like the first part of this book (the basic information I discussed above). The second part (the part that addresses individual problems) is a bit disappointing. The downside to this book is that the second part leaves me hungry for more information. In several of the individual cases, the information seems more common sense rather than a new and exciting revelation. Multiple "Case Examples" do not resolve the problem and leave the reader hanging, wondering "Well, how DO you solve the problem?"
One of the biggest things this book missed is animal psychology. It is not really mentioned or integrated in the book. I believe understanding cat and dog psychology (how they think and react to situations in general) is a HUGE key in understanding behavior and behavior problems. If the authors had incorporated it, I think this book would have been worth 5 stars.
Bottom line - If you are curious about animal behavior and want to learn more about it, this book can probably teach you a great deal. However, if you have worked with animals alot and understand their body language and how to train animals and work through issues, this book probably won't be as useful to you.
This is not a bad behavior book, but I think I'll continue the search to see if I can find one I like better.
Concise review of clinical behavior.......2001-06-24
This book is an extremely useful book on several levels. For the veterinary general practioner, this is a handbook that lives up to the title; the information can be found quickly and easily. For the veterinarian who has an interest in clinical behavior, the book has a large amount of useful indepth information. For the scientist who want to know more about clinical behavior, this book contains an up to date state of the field (in the year it was published). And finally for the veterinary behaviorist, this book has much to offer as well. I highly recommend this book for all graduating veterinarians. If you are a veterinarian and you are only going to have one behavior book in your library, this is it.

Book Description
SURRENDER is a mesmerizing psychological thriller from extraordinary novelist Sonya Hartnett.
I am dying: it's a beautiful word. Like the long slow sigh of a cello: dying. But the sound of it is the only beautiful thing about it.
As life slips away, Gabriel looks back over his brief twenty years, which have been clouded by frustration and humiliation. A small, unforgiving town and distant, punitive parents ensure that he is never allowed to forget the horrific mistake he made as a child. He has only two friends - his dog, Surrender, and the unruly wild boy, Finnigan, a shadowy doppelganger with whom the meek Gabriel once made a boyhood pact. But when a series of arson attacks grips the town, Gabriel realizes how unpredictable and dangerous Finnigan is. As events begin to spiral violently out of control, it becomes devastatingly clear that only the most extreme measures will rid Gabriel of Finnigan for good.

Disturbing and compelling!.......2007-07-21
This book was recommended to me by one of my students, and I'm extremely impressed. This is a story about a young man's struggles to overcome an abusive life, and it is told in a narrative style that keeps you guessing until the very end. The split between Gabriel and Finnegan begins to grow wider with each passing day, and in the end, it becomes clear that Finnegan will no longer be content watching Gabriel's life from the sidelines. It is a gripping novel full of suspense and dread. A wonderful read!
Don't read any review, just see how many stars it got!.......2006-07-04
It would have been a great story if I didn't read any review first. The title 'Surrender' would have meant more than just a symbol of what inside. The dog was the key to open the mystery but not because of its personality but because of its existence.
Some dialogs were composed just the right way to elude guesses but in some scenes you could feel the awkwardness. Well, it's better to find it out yourself.
Dark, yet smart and thought-provoking.......2006-06-01
On his deathbed, gasping for breath and clinging to life, Gabriel remembers his past. He recalls his childhood, when he was called Anwell. At the age of seven, entrusted with the care of his older, developmentally disabled brother while his mother rested and his father escaped, Anwell accidentally killed the older boy, an event that caused his family simultaneous trauma, embarrassment and relief.
Two years later, Anwell, isolated from his peers by his overly protective parents, encounters a very different boy, named Finnigan. The two make a pact: from now on, Finnigan will do all the bad things Anwell wants to do but can't, while Anwell does only good things. The friendless boy, desperate for company, agrees to be a reflection of his newfound blood brother, a sort of angel who can earn his repentance by attaining perfection. To mark his new status, the boy renames himself after the only angel he knows: Gabriel.
As Gabriel grows older, a series of arsons terrorize his small town. Gabriel knows who's committing the crimes and finds himself torn between the constable and his own father, who wants to form a kind of vigilante team to thwart the perpetrator. Gabriel also acquires a dog named Surrender, who soon leaves to roam the hills and forests with Finnigan, who is as restless and rangy as the dog itself.
When Gabriel develops a fixation on a female classmate, the events of his childhood and the effects of his pact with Finnigan come to a head. As the truth of Gabriel's condition is slowly revealed, readers will begin to question how much of the story --- even the horrifically violent climax --- is real, and how much of it is contained only within the mind of a disturbed young man.
Sophisticated plotting, mature vocabulary and violent themes make SURRENDER a novel suitable for older teens with the maturity to handle the book's subtle nuances and sinister themes. Sonya Hartnett doesn't write down to her audience; instead, she crafts an understated plot that grows ever more disturbing as the truth is revealed. However, readers who are ready to tackle challenging, thought-provoking fiction will relish the novel's depth and darkness.

A disappointment.......2006-05-13
I'm sorry to say I felt this book didn't live up to its hype. Although the concept was interesting and the writing was at times inspired and evocative, it left me flat. I felt like I'd heard it all before and I found the outcome predictable. I am an extremely well-read lover of contemporary fiction, and perhaps my expectations were just too high. Having said this - I am sure young adults (for whom the book is actually written) would be far more entranced.
A Great Read.......2006-05-07
Surrender is a beautifully written book but it also has a great narrative momentum in addition to it's literary merits. I have no idea why the book is marketed for teenagers as I think people of any age would be impressed by it. It is the best novel I have read this year and the best novel I have read, written by an Australian for many years. I look forward to reading Sonya Hartnett's future books.

Helped me keep my sanity while helping my best friend!.......2000-07-13
This is one of the more recent and thorough books on skin problems in dogs. Incidentally, skin problems are the most common problem for canines. The book is laid out like an encyclopedia by technical name of problem. It shows pictures of severe cases of many problems, and lists the most common problems by breed. The useful appendices allow you to cross reference your information to be sure you've uncovered all that you can.
Although I would never try to diagnose my own pet, while getting to the root of my Labrador's skin problem (which was a series of severe inhalant allergies), it helped me check up on my vet, ask intelligent questions, and find a fantastic specialist to finally relieve his symptoms. I have broken in the binder on this book as I refer to it constantly, and have many friends call to have me help them find information.
