GREAT BOOK! .......2007-09-26
This book was great. It made me cry, it was a very refreshing look at the life and death of a dog. Great. I highly recommend this book to anyone who believes the love remeans. People who do not have any animals or have every really loved an animal can not relate to how we feel when one dies, but this book hit the nail on the head. It can not bring my dog back but it helped my move on and open my heart for a new little friend. LOVED IT.....
Great little book.......2007-08-25
I ordered this book shortly after losing our beloved dog, of twelve years. It warmed my heart and made me cry . After reading it both my husband and I realized that even though our forever dog was gone. She would always live in our hearts. I also gave this sweet little book to a close friend that lost her dog soon after I did. She loved it too. Also it's a great little book for a new dog owner as well.
Cute book for anyone who has lost a pet.......2007-08-23
I recently lost my pet and I knew someone who went through this also. After I read this little book I knew they would love it.
good for kids or parents of their 'forever dog'.......2007-08-16
I am a 30 year old pet mother, and I bought this book when Marley, our 13 year old lab mutt died, I bought it for my daugter, whose 5. She liked it, but it really lovely for anyone who truly loves their animal of any age, it made me bawl and bawl with happiness. A truely lovely book, and out of all the dog grief books I bought, this one was the best!
Children's Book.......2007-08-11
I was disappointed. This is a children's book and should be classified as such.

Goodbye, Friend: Healing Wisdom for Anyone Who Has Ever Lost a Pet
ASIN: 0965922510 |
Book Description
For Every Cat An Angel celebrates the timeless connection between people and their "forever cats." From the moment a kitten is born, the book tells us, a guardian angel watches over it, loving the kitten no matter which path it chooses in life.
Some cats are adopted into loving families and the angel is happy knowing her cat will always be loved and cared for. But sometimes the angel knows someone very special is waiting for her cat, so she sends the cat through the stars until it arrives at the place it is meant to be - at the home of its forever person, where it will become a forever cat. Once a forever person and a forever cat find each other, nothing can ever separate them.
Filled with colorful illustrations, For Every Cat An Angel will delight cat lovers young and old and bring comfort to anyone who has had to say goodbye to their beloved cat companion.

FOR EVERY CAT AN ANGEL .......2007-08-15
For anyone who has ever loved a cat, for every cat lover out there... you owe it to yourself to buy and own this most wonderous book. The illustrations are absolutely charming and it is so beautifully written. Don't miss out on this one...add it to your continually growing cat book collection!

This book is the perfect book for any cat lover!
It'll bring a smile to your face and heart! :)
What a Lovely Book!.......2006-11-25
I bought it more than a year ago after the passing of my beloved kitty/soul-mate Princess. It is such a sweet comforting book -- like Princess, this book is small but brimming over with Love.
It's been more than a year since Miss P left me, but whenever I look thru this book I still get tears in my eyes!
Just Perfect.......2006-11-10
When I lost my cat- I was unable to discuss the loss with any degree of detachment. But I needed to be able to explain my kitty being gone to my young nieces who had also loved her. A book was the only solution. If I could read them something and show them pictures, they could have the loss explained and feel comforted by it. Well, not all books are created equal, especially in the "dealing with grief/loss/separation" category. But For Every Cat an Angel was absolutely perfect. The drawings were sweet and whimsical, and the spiritual fairy tale of the cat's angelic passage into life and into death was lovely and moving. Both comforting and a tear-jerker. Hey, and if you can't read it without bawling, you can always give it to the child and have them read it and/or look at the pictures. You just fill in the blanks afterwards! Imagine the relief of this over-emotional Auntie knowing she didn't have to sob all over the poor kids while explaining where the kitty went. Whew! Thank you to author/illustrator Christine Davis, what a perfect book.
For Every Cat an Angel.......2006-08-03
I had originally read "For Every Dog an Angel" and saw that it came in an equally loving Cat version, so when my brother's cat of 18 years crossed over, I just had to send his family this story as a consolation book...just perfect.

Thank you Emily.......2006-11-08
Emily's exquisite heartfelt feelings written in "When Only The Love Remains" continue to help me deal with the tragic death of my beloved 5-1/2 year old Golden Retriever Seajay several years ago. Thank you Emily as you encourage those who are experiencing the pain of loss of a beloved pet know that the love remains, forever in their heart. Jeri
Stuparyk's writing lifted my broken spirit like the wings of an angel..........2005-12-26
For anyone who has loved and lost a beloved pet, I highly recommend "When Only the Love Remains" by Emily Margaret Stuparyk. Her words will heal a broken heart and connect your soul eternally with your pet's soul. She understands the pain of pet loss because she has experienced it. I was devastated at the loss of my bunny, a Dwarf girl named Cinderella Rubi, who lived for only two years. Emily's writing lifted my broken spirit like the wings of an angel and reflect hope and belief in the afterlife. I have learned that although my beloved Cinderella is with her Creator now, she left me a legacy of love that lives on as my inheritance. This love will continue to grow for I will always remember my precious rabbit friend. I treasure this book and also you, Emily.
Moving Account of One Woman's Loss Helps Us All.......2004-09-18
My beloved kitty companion of nine years died suddenly on September 16, 2004 - as I write this, just three days ago. The totally unexpected loss of Sugarpuss is a terrible shock. Stuparyk's book was recommended to me that morning and I immediately ordered it on one day delivery from amazon (and I might add it arrived on the 17th as promised - thank you, amazon). I read most of it in one sitting, crying as in my mind I put my kitty in the place of Stuparyk's beloved rabbit, Poochie, who also died on September 16th several years ago. The poems are moving, especially the final one, which is also used for the title of the book. I very much identify with the poem where the author wishes for one more chance to hold her bunny alive again, which is what I feel about my Sugarpuss. I know I will go to this book again over the next several weeks. I would particularly recommend this book of poems for someone who feels grief but has problems expressing it, or who feels "funny" being so emotional over the loss of a companion animal.
The best book on pet loss.......2004-02-23
The author could have been writing about my own pet. Her sincere, honest portrayal of her feelings touched me so much that I was able to write down my own feelings on paper about a much loved and missed pet. It was like she knew me and my pet. I could feel her pain of her loss--it matched mine. Her book gave me so many things to think about. I recommend this book highly and plan to share it with others who need help healing with the loss of a pet.
Great book for grieving pet lovers.......2003-11-08
Reading this book, while grieving for my cocker spaniel, helped me go through the tears, the emotional turmoil, the depression, and eventual glimmers of hope, that accompany the loss of a beloved pet. I recommend it highly.
Customer Reviews:
Grab some tissues and tuck in........2007-09-23
Like a good box of chocolates, this book is best consumed one piece at a time, slowly, with time to ponder, cry, and hug your dogs between portions. In Daniel Pinkwater's perfectly crafted essay, the reader can actually feel the writer's love for his big old fur-friend. I'm crying just thinking about it. Anyone who has had to put down an adored dog, anyone who has lost an old pal to illness or accident, will love this book. But it should come with a warning -- may cause ceaseless sobbing. It's worth the tears.
The best book to get someone who has lost a dog friend.......2007-01-15
I first read this book when my own dog died. The collection of stories from sometimes famous writers about their own dogs and own losses is incredibly moving. It helped get me through a rough time. Since then I've given the book to others when they've lost dogs (or cats) and each one has really appreciated it.
A Moving Collection of Stories for Dog Lovers.......2006-07-03
This is a great book to read if you are grieving the death of a beloved dog. This a great collection of short, long, moving, funny, serious, and sentimental stories about dogs. Many of the writers are unfamiliar names to me and I found myself wishing that the book included a brief bio of each author, or at least the date of the first publication of each story.
Great Writers Humbled Before Dogs..........2004-11-01
Some of the greatest writers of our times have humbled themselves to celebrate the memory of lost dog-friends amd provide us with a spiritual boost. To experience the depth of feeling and understanding a human and dog can share is only possible through direct experience, or through the masterful language of these gifted people.
As a dog trainer, shelter worker and rescue volunteer, I am continually confronted with man's inability to respect, admire and wonder at the enrichment domestic dogs and cats bring to our lives. Even the most expensive purebred specimens are not exempt from man's ability to be inhumane.
Knowing that human intelligence and emotion at its highest levels of achievement and expression, through the works of these brilliant writers, recognizes the treasure that is the dog's presence in our lives, and deeply mourns its loss, gives me continued hope for humanity.

Who can forget?.......2004-04-30
Old Dogs Remembered is a wonderful collection that reflects on the joy of being owned by a dog and being the object of unquestioning devotion. While it is the collected remembrances and obituaries for famous people's dogs long past, it also focuses the reader on the dogs in our lives now. Our dogs pass away, but we have the power to make sure they are remembered. Take a minute to reflect on your current companion or one that awaits you in an afterlife that can only exist because we love our pets. Write his or her story, and save it, for yourself, your children, or just for the future. All old dogs deserve to be remembered.

good for child or pet loss.......2006-02-01
This book was a gift. It was given to me because my son passed away from a terminal genetic muscle defect 11 days after he was born.
The pictures are gorgeous!! I give the pictures 5 stars.
The story is cute and simple. I would recommend this book to be read to children who are dealing with the loss of a pet or the loss of a friend/sibling. It is also a charming book for an adult who has also suffered a loss.
A very helpful book!!.......2005-03-02
My niece died when my daughter was only 5. She struggled to come to terms with the concept of death, and to understand why her cousin had to die. Even more so, were her questions on what her cousin would do in Heaven. How would she live without her mommy and daddy? In our search to help her to understand a little better, a friend showed us this book. It was just the nudge she needed to move on, and accept that her cousin was not coming back, and was safe and well cared for in Heaven. Now, 3 years later, my daughter still loves this book. She now reads it to her new baby sister, and tells her all about their cousin in Heaven, and how she too, is taking caring of animals. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is struggling to deal with a loss.
Wonderful Book.......2003-12-22
A wonderful book! I give one to everyone I know who is struggling in dealing with this type of loss.
Excellent Book!!!!!!!!!.......2003-10-10
Incredible illustrations and wonderful story!! Bought it for my children as I loved the message and thought it would be good in the loss of a pet. Now I find myself in the position of supporting a friend's child as he prepares to die after a 5 yr. battle with cancer. NEVER thought I'd need it for that but was thrilled to find the main character's age (6 yrs old)is the same as this child. I know this book will help him on his journey!
Eases feelings at the loss of a pet.......2002-01-04
For anyone who loves animals and has experienced the loss of one, this story supports the emotional attachment and makes us feel the pet is in a great place. We hope for our pets to be taken care of without us, and this story sets just that stage.
The illustrations support the story and are beautiful in their own right. I have given this book to three friends with children who have lost family pets and all three felt it provided a kind word at that most difficult time.

It would be a pity if this interesting, humane, and practical book were read only by parents of recently bereaved children--for two reasons. First, the book is about grief in a broad sense. Its lessons apply not only to the child whose pet, aunt, or parent has died, but also to the child whose parents have divorced, who has suffered a debilitating injury, or who has experienced other forms of traumatic loss. Second, let's face it: every child will suffer a loss at some point, so it behooves parents to be prepared in advance. As the authors say, "our task as parents is to prepare our children to deal with the experiences they will have."
It's unfortunate that the book has what might be considered a common structural flaw in self-help books. All of Part I (about 50 pages) is devoted to examining various myths about grieving and mistakes in dealing with it--for example, that the griever should keep busy and try not to feel bad. This is "good advice about bad advice," but it leaves the reader wondering why the authors didn't choose to get on with the plain old "good advice" on page 1. By Part II, it's already clear which coping techniques the authors will recommend. It would have been better to start there. --Richard Farr
Book Description
To watch a child grieve and not know what to do is a profoundly difficult experience for parents, teachers, and caregivers. Yet, there are guidelines for helping children develop a lifelong, healthy response to loss.
In When Children Grieve, the authors offer a cutting-edge volume to free children from the false idea of "not feeling bad" and to empower them with positive, effective methods of dealing with loss.
There are many life experiences that can produce feelings of grief in a child, from the death of a relative or a divorce in the family to more everyday experiences such as moving to a new neighborhood or losing a prized possession. No matter the reason or degree of severity, if a child you love is grieving, the guidelines examined in this thoughtful book can make a difference.
Customer Reviews:
excellent book.......2007-08-01
The book is readable, practical and filled with useful information. It would be helpful to both parents and professionals.
Everyone needs this book!.......2007-05-28
"When Children Grieve" is a book every person should read. It explains just how significantly we are impacted by almost evey loss we experience.
Each and every one of us will experience loss in our lives. Most of us don't realize the impact those losses have on our future lives and the decisions we make when we have not gone through the grieving process. We need to ackowledge the changes that a loss brings to our lives.
This book thoughfully explains what grieving is and how to recognize it in your life.
I highly recommend it for everyone as a teaching resource for lifes lessons.
A must read for any one going through a loss of any kind.......2007-04-03
This is a great book for anyone who has been through a move, divorce, pet loss, or loss of a loved one. It gives great solutions for resolve. Even if it has been years since your loss. Even though the title implies it is to help your children you can learn alot about yourself as well.
A Must Read for All Parents.......2004-01-14
This book should be required for all parents. If you want to understand the basics of human and/or child behavior, this book is a must read. The book succinctly and lovingly explains the concept of "loss" and the emotional and physical responses to it-what we would normally call grief.
The beauty of this book is that grief is placed in a larger context. In other words, according to the authors, grief is the response when experiencing a "massive change or end from everything familiar." Therefore, children, and adults, can grieve a variety of situations: loss of a pet, moving to another neighborhood, or changing schools.
Therein rests the beauty of this book. This book explains how to help children. More importantly, the adults who are required to provide the assistance will learn more about their children and themselves.
So highly recommended, there are not enough stars to express this book's importance.
Written With Gentle, Healing Hands.......2003-05-24
I am a conservative, grumpy, old, Lutheran pastor, vehemently opposed to all things "New Age." I despise the fads of pop-psychology. "Touchy-Feely" advice from so-called experts, who demand exorbitant fees, often makes me want to wretch. So, I approached this book filled with trepidation.
There was no need for my concerned.
Writing with extraordinary gentleness and common sense Mr. James, Mr. Friedman and Dr. Matthews have provided adults with an invaluable outline on how to shepherd the children in their lives through loss, grief and recovery. Every parent, grandparent, teacher, pastor, priest, rabbi, nurse or physician who expects the children in their lives to suffer the death of a pet, suffer the death of a relative, move or endure a divorce will benefit from reading this book.
Do yourself a favor. Read this book for the sake of the children whom you love. It is well worth the investment of your time.
Then, do yourself a second favor, and place a copy of this book in your church, synagogue or public library for the others who will grow by reading it.

Comfort and information for grieving pet owners.......2007-09-29
This is a hard book to read, especially when you have lost a pet or know you are going to lose a beloved pet soon, but it is very useful. Everything about it is kind and understanding, from the abstract cover that does not feature a happy dog or cat to the chapters loaded with advice about all those tough topics we'd rather not think about, including saying goodbye, euthanasia, what to do with the pet's remains, deciding whether to get another pet, providing for pet care in case you die or become disabled, and what to do if you're forced to give your pet away. We don't want to think about these things, but sometimes we need to know. Allen, a writer and pet lover with a master's degree in counseling, has produced a reference every pet owner should keep around, just in case.
Loss of a Beloved Friend.......2007-07-30
I purchased this book a few weeks after the loss of my beloved black lab Java at 13 yrs of age. The pain I felt the morning I had to make the dreaded decision was visceral and made breathing difficult. It was beyond anything I had experienced and simply numbing. The book offered amazing insight into the grieving process and assured me the emotions were expected, natural and eventually the pain would lessen. It also addresses the guilt we feel and our questioning of "could I have done more" or "maybe I made a mistake" which are quite powerful.
This book is a must have guide for any pet owner. My prayers and thoughts are with all of us sharing the pain and loss of a beloved animal, both now and forever.

Coping With Sorrow on the Loss of Your Pet.......2006-09-23
My best friend died 1.5 years ago and I still miss her terribly - she was my 15 year old cat. This book was very useful to me during my time of intense mourning. While I know that her loss was a significant and horrible event in my life, recognition of the death of animal companions is not common in our society. This book helped me to see that I was not alone in my grief and that it was okay and normal to feel such grief. I actually purchased several books on this topic and found this one to be the best.
Some help & understanding through difficult loss.......2006-09-12
After my best friend of 12 1/2 years Skipper passed away in early 2005, I was a wreck and needed some grounding. This book offered empathy for the loss of my dog & helped me understand the feelings I had at the time. This book won't erase the pain, but it offers objectivity...God Bless all of man's best friends.
exceptional !!!!!!.......2006-08-03
Coping With Sorrow On The Loss Of Your Pet (second edition) - Book Review
Author of seven books, Moira Allen is also an accomplished article writer and columnist. During her long career, she has held a variety of writing-related positions, including a past editor of Dog Fancy Magazine.
Her book, Coping With Sorrow On The Loss Of Your Pet, has been in production for 20 years and has been embraced by humane societies, veterinary schools and pet cemeteries. This support comes with good reason...
Coping With Sorrow On The Loss Of Your Pet is an exceptionally well planned and thoroughly researched, 182-page non-fiction self-help book. Moira displays excellent organizations skills and clearly shows a compassion and dedication to the concept of preparedness for the death of a loved one.
This 13-chapter book opens with some lovely poems that, frankly, meant so much more to me after I finished the book and returned to read them once more. The author covers every aspect of losing a pet and closes with a lovely write-up about her life as a writer.
While I have not yet experienced the death of a pet, I have had the experience of finding homes for three beloved cats in the past due to circumstances beyond my control, and I have lost two cats in a city I once lived in. Her chapter dealing with missing pets was absolutely dead on in regards to the emotional process, which Moira so accurately describes as a cross between a death and a divorce.
My husband and I have the pleasure of sharing our home with three friends. Our eldest is a female cat, who is showing her age; she has been with us for 13-years. Through this book, I learned what to expect during the aging and letting go stages - and I was also awakened to our lack of preparedness for our four-legged family members in the event of our death or prolonged injury/illness. This new knowledge arrived with perfect timing as we are currently updating our little Will.
Another aspect that we had not yet considered was what we planned to do for our four-legged friends when they pass on to the next plane. This was brought to the discussion table at once.
Moira also discusses aspects of dealing with the death on an emotional level. For instance, each member of the family, even those of the four-legged variety, will grieve differently according to the relationship they had with the deceased. The ways we all will be able to show our emotions will vary just as much and I think it is helpful for pet-owners to be aware of these differences in order to avoid misunderstandings. The author also shows us some social barriers, such as people who cannot comprehend the grief over the loss of an animal, and she shows us how to deal with this hurtful event.
This book was so helpful! The new discussions that were brought into our home over these important issues, made me so very grateful for having had the opportunity to read this book.

Do-it-yourself grief counseling..........2006-08-19
This book helped me tremendously in coping with the death of my dog. It addressed every feeling and question I have surrounding the euthanasia. It also has chapters on lost pets and re-homing which would be very helpful for anyone in that circumstance.
If you are reading this, you probably need the book. Good luck to you, I hope you will be able to resolve your grief issues.

Good but not my favorite.......2006-12-27
THis was the third Phantom Stallion book I had read and It was good, but it's not my favorite. Ryan Slocum is in love with Hotspot's foal, Shyboots. When Linc says that he is going to destroy the colt because he's a "Mongrel" Ryan takes action. He talks Sam into hiding Hotspot and Shyboots with him.
Of course just a few hours later Linc shows up accusing Sam of stealing his horses.
Ryan left to go to San Fansico with his mother and twin sister, leaving Sam holding the bag. Sam takes Sherrif Ballard up to the place where they hid the horses, but they are no longer there!
All in all it's good. I recommend it.
Pretty good book.......2005-06-24
This book was pretty good, I liked the story but I thought it was a little too made up. Like things couldn't happen that way in real life. I just read Rusty the high flying Morgan horse and that book was a lot better. It seemed like it could really happen. I like the phantom books but I also like the morgan series cause the stories are more real.
Another Very Exciting Book in the Phantom Stallion Series!.......2005-06-12
I really enjoyed reading this book because it keeps you guessing until the very end. When two horses turn up missing, you have several possible suspects, and you never know for sure who is telling the truth. If you love horses and mysteries, this book has both.
Okay, but not great.......2005-04-29
I do like the Phantom Stallion series a great deal, but I was disappointed in the last couple of books. In the book before this one, the author left a lot of things unfinished and I was hoping that she would pick up where she left off. In the last book, the dangerous hunting dogs were still on the loose, Linc Slocum was in trouble in the mountains, and Blaze the River Bend Ranch dog was missing. I wanted to hear where Blaze was, how Linc was helped, and what they did to catch the dogs.
Instead, the story just picks up with Blaze back (never once even mentioning that he was missing), Linc being his normal "evil villain" self (which is getting more and more extreme with each book), and they mention once that the dangerous hunting dogs were sent back to Louisiana. But how did all this happen? How did they catch the dogs again, where was Blaze, and how did they manage to get Linc out of trouble? We don't know because the author says nothing.
The book itself is not bad, but it did get off on a bad note with me because all the problems and issues that the last book left open were more or less forgotten and she just charged into another story. The story is about Shy Boots, the colt of Apache Hotspot and Diablo, mentioned in the second book of the series: Mustang Moon. Apparently Ryan, Linc Slocum's son, is very fond of him and is trying to protect him from his father who wants to get rid of the little colt. Ryan gets Sam to help at the same time as the HARP program on River Bend starts up again. However, Ryan goes from being a sort of shy guy that is rather competitive with Jake, to being a total and absolute spoiled brat all the of the sudden. I mean, honestly he was never really unusually nice or anything in the other books, but he was polite and not nasty or anything. In this book, he is all the sudden being a manipulative jerk and thinking he can pay for anything he wants, etc. and gets Sam into some trouble through this. Because of Ryan pushing Sam into doing something not so smart (she means well, but acts on a bad idea trying to help), Hotspot and Shy Boots disappear. Shy Boots ends up being sold to a petting zoo, but Ryan rescues him with Sam's help, though he still acts like a brat. Hotspot ends up running wild with the Phantom (huge surprise there, not trying to be rude to the author, but I saw that coming a mile away). There is the brief intro of the character, Karl Mannix, who is supposed to be working for Slocum, who ends up (like all the people who work for Slocum, except the Kenworthys) being a crook who is responsible for Hotspot and Shy Boots being missing, though he is not actually caught at the end of the book.
The book itself is not bad. I love the author's writing style and descriptions, but if you are hoping to have some of the loose ends of the last book taken care, you will be a little disappointed. If you really enjoy the series (as I do), I do recommend reading it because the story is a good one and Sam develops (at least a little) into a stronger, smarter person in this book. I liked it, but it was not quite what I was hoping for. Still, for the die-hard fans who own all the books (like me), then it is a nice addition to the story line.

Great source of comfort.......2003-02-27
For those who have ever loved and lost a beloved, this guide is a great source of comfort. Sensitive and heartwarming, a wonderful gift when words just are not appropriate. The unconditional love of a pet is such a source of joy, but when we lose them, the heartache can be unbearable. Having been there, I understand how paralyzing grief can be. Arlene Millman...
For Those Deeply Grieving, You Have Found Help.......2002-03-30
Purchasing "Legacies of Love" was perhaps one of the best things I could have done to help me through my grief after losing my precious dog on 3/7/02. It has only been a few weeks, and I listen to Teresa's soothing voice and comforting words every day to get through this "coping" period. Her validation that deep grieving over pet loss is undervalued by many on-lookers and "supporters", but completely normal to those of us grieving, brought a sense of peace during a time when there are so many emotions. Those who have lost their companion(s) and don't know how they will go on, will find Teresa's tapes a tremendous source of comfort and graceful inspiration. In honor of my beloved Pupster, I have purchased two additional sets of "Legacies of Love" to donate to my veterinarian's office in the hope that someone facing deep grief after losing their animal will find as much comfort in her words and wisdom as I have.
Soothing.......2001-11-27
Very soothing voice, tone and message. She really helps the hurt and I am glad I made this purchase. I will share it with others and recommend it. I only wish there was a bit more insight into the religious side of loss - something that I could know was of God. Still - excellent.
Deeply caring message and a practical support tool.......2000-10-07
This tape provides important comfort and guidance during one of life's
most difficult experiences. Don't miss it.
Meaningful, and deaply healing.......2000-07-12
Haveing lost my beloved mare in a tragic, unexpected accedent, I have been lost and confused. It can be difficult to find someone who understands just how painful it can be to loose a close friend that happens to have four legs.
Teresa understands. She knows what it is like, and her voice is like a soothing guide to recovery. The tapes are filled with information and guidence, as well as personal experiences. I found them to be profoundly healing as I began to accept her death, and learn to get past coping. If you have experienced the death of your animal friend, you won't be sorry you bought this.
This would also be a welcome gift for those who have lost their animal friends.
