Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Generic Information - A bit of a Letdown.......2003-07-10
If you are looking for generic information that would pertain to any breed, this book serves the purpose. There is basic information presented pertaining to the Brittany but I found little substance. If you are familiar with breed books from Barrons you understand what I mean. The Brittany is a unique, fiesty little dog and I was looking for a book that would delve into the temperment, development and point me in the right direction as far as training needs for my special companion. The information provided in this book does not concentrate on the Brittany and except for the pictures and brief chapters touching on the breed as a dual purpose companion/upland game hunter you can basically find the exact information on any breed in a Barrons book. I have trained Collies and Golden Retrievers and being a first time Brittany owner was hoping for a lot more information. You can go to the akc.org page and get the breed standard information for free. The book touches on hunting and retrieving but again, more in depth information can be found on most of the reputable breeder sites online. If you are looking to really get inside the breed, save your money, this book is nothing more than basic health care information that would pertain to any dog. A "complete owner's manual" it is not. I don't need to buy a book to tell me that my dog needs fresh water every day. The brief section on training says nothing about the "soft" temperment of this dog and the need for gentle positive reward methods and the risk of raising a timid fearful dog with problems that may be hard for the inexperienced owner to correct. If you are looking for a book with basic care instructions such as nail clipping, grooming, basic daily care and information on various potential health problems such as parasitic infection, explanations of the common diseases that we vaccinate our pups to be protected from, you will find the information in this book.
Bottom line- if you are new to dog ownership you may find the information useful and valuable. If you are an experienced dog owner, pass on this one.
Cute Pictures, Informative.......2003-03-17
When I put a down payment on a Brittany pup, I purchased this book in order to gain knowledge about the breed. My Brittany is now 3 years old and I continue to look at this book as a reference.
OK, with some errors.......2002-01-11
This book is OK, but contains a few errors. The first review is also wrong, tri-color is not common or acceptable in American Brittanys. That is a feature of a French Brittany, and the bloodlines are distinct. One thing the book fails to underscore sufficiently is how "hyper" a brittany is: if you have never been around a pointing dog, please take some time to do so before getting a brittany so it doesn't wind up being orphaned. They are sweet, biddable dogs, but need to run alot every day. This is particularly true of a well-bred britt, since it will come from lines that maintain field traits. Good luck.
New Brittany Owner.......2001-07-30
Excellent book for the new Brittany owner. I've bought 4 other books since I got my pup, and this one is the best. Plenty of general purpose info for any dog owner, plus lots of specifics about Brittanys. Training information is also provided.
The book was well written, easy to read and in depth........1998-06-23
Any one planning on purchasing a well mannered, friendly, active, loving, inteligent family oriented dog, should investigate Dan Rice's book first. They may find through this in depth and easy to read book that the loveable Brittany is for them. Note: Since the publication of this book, the AKC has changed the Brittany Spaniel's name to just Brittany. You may also like to know that the Brittany comes in other colors than just orange and white. Liver and white, is also common and although considered a discualification from shows, black and white or tri-colored are also commonly seen.

Customer Reviews:
John's man.......2007-04-03
In this, the fourth mystery by Penman, Justin de Quincy answers the call of his former lover, Claudine, only to find that she was acting on behalf of Prince John. A document has surfaced implicating John in a scheme to kill his brother, King Richard I, still imprisoned by Henry VI, King of Germany and Holy Roman Emperor.
In a surprising twist, de Quincy finds himself not only working as "John's man", but also partnered with his nemesis, Durand. The two must work together to prove that the document is a forgery, and must look past their hatred and disdain for each other to do so.
The book started slow, and I was worried that Penman had become bored with her mysteries. But it picks up quickly, and becomes, perhaps, her most intricate mystery to date. She challenged herself in this book, as there were more plot threads than we have seen in previous efforts, and indeed it read more like a mystery. Also, a flower that bloomed in this book found its seed planted in the previous book, Dragon's Lair
As always, Penman weaves history and fiction together to create an altogether enjoyable read.
disappointing.......2007-02-24
As a fan of Margaret Frazer's medieval mysteries, I was hoping for something similar in this, the first of Sharon Kay Penman's that I've read. However, Penman's book struck me as deeply anachronistic in its rendering of her characters, their dialogue, and their motivations--more like a Hollywood costume drama than a convincing representation of medieval life.
a good mystery read.......2007-01-06
Penman show her knowledge of the time period in this installment of her series I really enjoyed it as it made John lackland a more real person to me.
Historical tour de force.......2006-11-25
As an historian, I find Penman to be flawless. I enjoyed her historical detail through 12th century England and France tremendously. I am not sure Justin De Quincy is my favorite character but he is growing on me. His problem is that his father is a Bishop. This bishop does seem to have feelings for him and Penman can sure develop this relationship more in future novels. justin is also a father in this one and we see a nurturing side that I am not convinced added anything to the plot of this novel nor to his character.
On the other hand, King John is certainly complex and gave a view of his personality that, while lacking in some historical proof, is certainly plausible given his experiences as the younger child of that incredible pair of monarchs as Henry II and eleanor of Aquitaine.
My favorite character, though, was Durand and here Penman may want to start something in his direction. As John's man, the character was interesting bu the development of his personality in the novel is the richest part of this adventure. Truly a medieval man.
All in all, a good read.
A+ Mystery!.......2006-07-31
Anyone who loves Medieval History will love Sharon Kay Penman's Prince of Darkness. It is a mystery during the time of King Richard's imprisonment and based on Prince John and Dowager Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine
All of Penman's books are fiction based on fact and are first rate!

Book Description
Capturing the harbor at Brest in Brittany was crucial for securing the flank of the Normandy landings in the summer of 1944. The U.S. 4th and 6th Armored Divisions were detailed for the task. Facing them were such units as the Germans could throw at them, but stiffened by Bernhard Ramke's elite paratroopers
The author of Spearheading D-Day draws on eyewitness accounts to tell the story of a hard-fought battle on the flank of the Normandy landings, including unpublished period photographs, definitive unit organization charts, maps, and photos of uniforms and equipment.
In the same way his bestselling book, Spearheading D Day was quickly recognized as the best book on the subject, this new title will quickly earn the same recognition. ?
Customer Reviews:
Fantastic presentation.......2003-02-13
This oversize book is packed full of photos and sidebars, but it fully tells the history of the Brittany campaign. Gawne gets into the neat details of the story, but also recounts the grueling struggle for Brest as well. I was interested in this book because my grandfather fought in this campaign and I was surprised to learn that his battalion was at one time cut off behind enemy lines! The few stories he told were always war-lite. My main quibble with the book is that the maps don't have a scale on them, so it's hard to understand the scale of, say, the battle for hill 111. Great book with a great packaging.
Truely Forgotten Campaign Examined........2002-10-01
Jonathan Gawne has followed up his successful _Spearheading D-Day_ with another of what could be categorized as the tables of organization, uniforms and equipment genre of military history. This time around, he presents the least appreciated backwater operation of the entire war in Europe: the Brittany campaign.Gawne's forte is unit organization, military hardware, and uniforms and equipment. His audience are the veterans of the Second World War, specifically, those that participated in the battles and campaigns of which he writes (Gawne's own father fought throughout the campsign as a company commander in the 28th Infantry, 8th Division). To a lesser extent, the author targets collectors and re-enactors. Author/Historians with experience in working with veterans will attest to their tendency to complain bitterly if their unit is slighted by not being mentioned in a text dealing with a campaign or battle in which they had participated. Gawne is well aware of this fact and has developed a reputation for going above and beyond the call to include every American unit from the obvious to the obscure (the 23rd Special Troop, a tactical deception unit that operated in Brittany, is a case in point). This style may have its advantages, however, like the writer of a good movie script whose drama gets buried in the myriad of special effects, _Americans in Brittany_ leaves one intoxicated with sensual overload.Nine of the book's fifteen chapters are devoted to individual armor, infantry, and ranger units plus a chapter on artillery. Each page (of only 160-pages total) attempts to cram photos, side bars of people, places, and other interesting tid-bits, computer generated maps, models displaying uniforms, and numerous tables of organizations, not to mention a text font so small it blurs even the sharpest of visions. The photos, however, are impressive (some in color), many of which are contributed by veterans and family members. Particularly noteworthy are the photos offered by the family of Hermann Bernard Ramcke, the German commander of Fortress Brest, which are seen here for the first time. It is here that Gawne displays his expertise in captioning, oftentimes pointing out minute details that could otherwise escape the untrained eye.Like the military units he dipicts, however, when too many columns vie for a limited amount of space, something has to give. In this case,it's Gawne's narrative. Gawne tries his best to chronical a campaign that possesses a multitude of intertwining themes that are ripe for the picking. All of the factors that make for good military history are contained within the Brittany Campaign. Some of these themes include: logistics, professional military education, the so-called "war of the generals," armor and cavalry doctrine, its uses and abuses, and a much neglected aspect, the role of French civilians and armed resistance in the American effort. Due to what I believe are strategies of the French publishers, Gawne was limited in scope and forced to gloss over many of these important concepts with a broad brush stroke. In addition, the absence of even a "selected" bibliography or endnotes hinders what otherwise could have been a great reference work. For those seeking a more scholarly treatment of this truly forgotten campaign, this book may leave some wanting. Yet, Gawne's labor of love has certainly reached his intended audience, the veterans and their families.I strongly recommend it for anyone truly interested in the war in the European Theater of Operations (ETO).
Excellent description of little-known Brittany Campaign........2002-08-24
When the Brittany Campaign took place in August of 1944,
it was big news: Patton had broken out of hedgerow country
and was making unbelievable progress into German-occupied France.
However, as the destroyed port of Brest became a lower priority
than the drive directly east toward Germany, this initial thrust
to the south and west of Normandy (yes, west; look at a map)
became somewhat forgotten and has been overlooked in
post-WW II histories.
Author Gawne has done a wonderful job of researching this
campaign and gathering previously unpublished photos and
personal recollections into a well-illustrated and very
readable account. My own father served through this
campaign with the 6th Armored Division, and I was very
happy to see an entire chapter devoted to this important
but relatively unpublicized unit. Gawne's own father (to whom the
book is dedicated) served in the 8th Infantry Division, yet
the author devotes equal, detailed attention to all units
without unduly focusing on the Division which must be of
most personal interest to him.
He even devotes time to the French (FFI) and German units
that the Americans faced, an aspect often overlooked in
war histories.
This book should find a place on the bookshelf of any
student of WW II in the E.T.O.

Campy, trashy, bad, tacky, sleazy... this should appeal to anyone that loves John Waters movies or similar cultural underbelly fare. A big, thick book of fun NOT for the entire family. The text is as interestingly funny as the covers. Sure, it's sexist in the extreme, but we just didn't know better back then, now did we? This totally appeals to the sense of iconic, nostalgic and retro sex and anyone that still thinks "the jerk" is a still cool dance to do and girlwatcher sunglasses are de riguer will love this book. I've bought it for 2 people so far and they can't keep their friends hands off of them... a great FUN gift idea that keeps on giving and making you laugh out loud with every page turn.
Sleaze by the million.......2005-05-15
It soon becomes apparent when reading the first few chapters of this interesting book that in this tiny part of the publishing industry were an equally small number of people (mostly males, obviously) yet they were responsible for producing millions of trash paperbacks that sold in the Fifties, Sixties and early Seventies. This book is a celebration of their endeavours.
Because of the very competitive arena in which these publishers worked, with twenty or more new titles each month the covers were the main selling point and the three hundred plus reproduced in this book show that you don't mess with a successful formulae. They had to show a female (unless it was for the gay market) as provocatively posed as possible with a two or three word title to complete the package. It has to be said though that the quality of these illustrations is pretty poor which only makes the work of one or two artists really stand out. Robert Bonfils, in particular, consistently turned out quality art and sleaze artists like Stanton, Bilbrew and Bill Ward were made for this market. No cover design could be too tacky for this publishing genre.
The bulk of the book are the cover reproductions (each with date, publisher, author and artist credits) with several short essays in the front. The two about soft core publishing on the East and West coasts were interesting because they actually explain the background to the publishers and more importantly how the books were distributed through the network of adult book stores in most cities and towns. The back has a useful list of publishers and authors pseudonyms. I was slightly disappointed with the books production though, there is no real page design, paragraphs are excessively long and columns just fall short because no one bothered to make adjustments to the picture sizes to compensate. Despite this 'Sin-a-rama' will probably be the only book to comprehensively cover the publishing world of paperback sleaze.

An eye-opening visual survey .......2005-02-05
Sin-A-Rama: Sleaze Sex Paperbacks of the Sixties is a full-color gallery of paperback cover artwork from "sleazy" sex-themed paperback books of the 1960's. An introduction surveys the industry and history behind such publications, but most of the text within Sin-A-Rama consists of excerpts from the paperbacks themselves. The covers, done in the realism style with muted shades so common in the 60's, are often quite revealing; bare breasts and nipples are not uncommon, as are a number of kinky, if exaggerated situations. An eye-opening visual survey of the sensuality marketed to popular American culture during the era of the sexual revolution.
Great historical & pictorial depiction of sleaze paperbacks!.......2005-01-21
Sin-A-Rama is the only book on this subject on the market today. Sure, there have been plenty of books discussing the 1940's/1950's pulp paperbacks (sci fi, mystery, etc titles) but this is the only one thus far to delve into the realm of the taboo world of 1960's sleaze paperbacks! The editors do a wonderful job constructing the historical basis for these lurid gems, while also providing the reader with pages and pages of full-color pictures of these naughty novels. The book features great articles by Jay A. Gertzman, Brittany A. Daley, Earl Kemp, and Steve Gertz to name a few. Furthermore, the book features excellent reference material at the back including lists of pen names by Earl Kemp and a publisher's catalog by Brittany A. Daley. The book is also littered with interesting quotes from these rule-breaking books. I would highly advise readers to seek out this book! Oh and I don't know if Amazon.com's personnel ever reads these reviews but there is an error on this book's order page. The editor list is incorrect as the editors were actually (as listed on the back of the book): Brittany A. Daley, Hedi El Kholti, Earl Kemp, Miriam Linna, and Adam Parfrey.
Book Description
Discovered in 1855, Green Lake has been an essential feature within Seattle's distinctive juxtaposition of landscape architecture and urban expansion, providing recreation and community focus for the last 150 years. Named after the persistent algae bloom that still occurs, the lake is a valuable natural landmark at the center of a neighborhood in transition, and its past is threaded with tenacious organizations and ambitious individuals. From its first homesteader, Erhart Green Lake John Saifried, to the vision of the Olmsted brothers, from Guy Phinney's menagerie to the triumph and tragedy of Helene Madison, from ice-skating to the Aqua Follies, this broad collection of vintage images illustrates a bygone era and provides a unique perspective on community values and ecological struggle.

Hoping to Visit Brittany & Normandy.......2006-08-18
This is a detailed and helpful guide book which appears to cover almost all of the questions a visitor to Brittany & Normandy might ask before and after arrival. The Contents page shows the variety of subjects covered. Among the many sections, there are recommendations on preparing for unexpected health problems; there is a brief language/phrase section and a glossary for quick French/English or English/French one word references on a travelor's most commonly needed words/translations. For each area reviewed, there are brief commentaries about history, points of interest and transport. In the Directory section there are suggestions and telephone numbers and references for finding rentals, camp sites, hotels, restaurants, culture, shopping, and regional attributes and regional agriculture. There are contact numbers or addresses for variously priced lodgings and overnight accommodations as well as other services. Much information, including small maps, is squeezed into this 368 page book to read and savor ahead of the trip, as well as for every day reference while touring. This little book could be the only Brittany & Normandy guide book needed, tucked into your carry-on...and kept in pocket for use from landing until departure.
An excellent guide and a must buy.......2005-06-29
I hesitated to buy this book to plan a recent tritp to Normandy -- with a high-speed connection to the Internet, doing research with travel books seemed so pointless and expensive. Besides, buying the book seemed to open Pandora's Box -- we're doing quite a bit of traveling nowadays, and if we bought this book, shouldn't we buy a book for every country we're visiting in the coming months? This could easily rack up expenses for frugral travelers.
It turned out to be a great decision to spend the dozen or so dollars on this book. Jam-packed with helpful information and wonderful maps (besides the ones in the DK travel guides, Lonely Planet offers better maps than any guide book I've tried to use), I referred to this book over and over again during both planning and travel.
The information in it is occasionally outdated, but no book is ever completely up to date. For example, prices have gone up and hours have changed. Not a problem though, because the book offers phone numbers and websites to check the info. We used it to find campsites and places to visit. It pointed us to things that we would otherwise never have known existed -- e.g. the Pont du Normandie and the Route des Traditions. And it steered us clear of some cities so that we could spend more time on what we were interested in.
The book also includes sections on the history of the area and information about local foods and customs. It's just chock full of everything you'll need to plan your trip -- info about tolls and transportation, French phrases, etc. Definitely pick this one up!
A Business-like Guide.......2004-08-18
This one does exactly what it says on the packet. Accurate, up-to-date (it's a year newer than its competitors) and easy-to-use. A bit low on illustrations and pictures, so not got the coffee-table factor, but that's not what it's for. Very good on camp site info.

Nice Pictures But Poorly Organized.......2007-05-14
The premise of this travel book is that they focus on providing a lot of visual content for people who are more visual learners. But if I was relying on this for my only source of information about Brittany, I would be quite frustrated, as it is very difficult to find anything in this book (versus my Lonely Planet book). A nice book to purchase as a supplement, but don't rely on it as your primary destination guide.
