Analysts, technicians, and managers will appreciate the solid theory behind this outline for ensuring that tables and graphs present quantitative business information in a truthful, attractive format that facilitates better decision making.

don't get both books.......2007-09-22
I recommend not buying both of the Few books - there's what seems to be quite a bit of overlapping content between them -- pick the one book that is closer to what you're working on and just get that one, it'll cover what you need.
There are some interesting concepts in here - if you read his blog you'll have a really good idea for what you're getting.

Great Book for Business.......2007-07-12
Show Me the Numbers provides the practical and useful information needed to creat tables and graphs to effectively tell your quantitative story. Through numerous examples and illustrations, Stephen Few points out the good, the bad, and the just plain ugly ways that quantitative data can be presented. Numbers are important to any business. This book provides the reader with the tools needed to fluently communicate using the language of numbers.
Not a Great Advance.......2007-05-13
This is a very basic overview of easy descriptive statistics, combined with some Tufte-esque notes on graph display, but for the more sophisticated reader on metrics/data/stats, this is not a real keeper. About 20% of it was new or thought-provoking, so if you're already well-read on this topic, don't get this one.
Excellent Book.......2007-04-12
This is a great book which clearly elucidates design principles. The fact that all the graphs explained are created in Excel also makes the book more practicable.
Good graph/table, insightful techniques, clumsy writing.......2007-01-28
The book's content is good and useful for the analyst who needs to present numbers concisely and clearly, making people understand at the first sight.
However, the writing of the book is a bit clumsy. The book progresses slowly. This book makes its point only at the middle of the book. I was expecting the book went straight to the point to share about the techniques of presenting numbers effectively at the very front pages.

Chills the "dentist" anxiety for first time patients.......2007-10-03
I thought this would be a good book to read to my child prior to seeing a dentist. It is/was! I would recommend it for any parent who is needing to take their young child to the dentist for the first time.
Great way to prepare kids for the first dentist visit!.......2007-08-11
I used this with two 3-year-old boys who were known to balk at unfamiliar situations and throw ear-shattering tantrums if neccesary to get away from their object of fear. This book went a long way toward manking the dentist experience a whole lot more "interesting" vs. "scary". Both boys now look forward to their check-ups and are very familiar with what to expect thanks to Dora and her friends.
book for easing dentist anxiety.......2007-05-14
This has been a great resource for my 3-4 year old. Dora is a familiar face who shows what will basically happen at a dental visit. I do wish it could have shown Dora getting her teeth polished, or something like that, but over all a very good resource.
2 year old toddlers were captivated.......2007-05-14
We have twin girls , 2 years old and they are about to have their first visit with the dentist soon. They love this book (we have 2 copies). They are curious and they enjoy reading it over and over again. I think it will help them be more prepared when they take their first visit to the dentist.
teaching about going to the dentist & dental hygeine is always beneficial.......2007-02-12
Anything that promotes dental hygeine and not to fear visiting the dentist is always a favorable item in our home.
Everyone likes Dora, so why not let your child's favorite character go to the friendly dentist? Next, go to Walmart or Target and buy her a Dora toothbrush and show her what Dora uses, and how to brush teeth (especially after eating any sweets) The earlier you can instill good habits in your child, the better and easier it is for you as the parent or caregiver.
As a parent, I don't care very much for Dora books or shows, but who asked me for my opinion? We care what our child thinks and wants in a book.

Paper Piecing Made Simple.......2007-05-07
This is a great instruction tool for learning to paper piece quilt blocks. Carol Doak does a fine job of taking the quilter step-by-step through the process, and the photos are very well done. I am confident that I can do the project with the paper piecing pattern that is provided in the book. Many thanks to Carol Doak for this fine little pattern/instruction book! I recommend it to any quilter who wants to learn to paper piece, no matter what their quilting skill level is.

When I received this book it helped my confidence to paper piece.

Dog shows are phenomenally popular, immensely competitive, and often perplexing for beginners. Show Me offers easy-to-follow tips and words of wisdom for those new to this challenging sport. Author D. Caroline Coile is quick to point out that the average pet pooch (although lovely in your eyes) will not make it in professional competitions. Most show dogs are bred for this very purpose, and the book includes practical advice for selecting and raising your top dog. (Can you really handle that Great Dane?)
Coile divulges her immense knowledge of competition culture, from grooming tips and obedience training to the psychology of dealing with competition loss. Crisp color photographs and expertly drawn pencil sketches of that perfect show dog will capture the imagination of any would-be competitor.
Book Description
What are the physical qualities and special training methods that make a good dog a prize-winner? When is it better to hire a professional handler, and when should owners show the dog themselves? Here are answers to these and many more questions. Owner's will find advice on grooming, training, dress rehearsals, and understanding the points that judges are looking for. Many full-color photos.
Customer Reviews:
An excellent gude for the first time handler!.......2007-06-05
If you have never shown a dog before and don't know what you are getting yourself into this is the book to buy! It even provides a supply list so you know what to bring! If you want to start showing your dog(s) and need to know what to do and how to do it this is one book you MUST buy!
Worth Your Consideration.......2007-03-30
This is probably not the best showing how to book out there but it certainally teaches you a lot without encouraging you to be a snob that cares about nothing but winning at any cost. It covers a lot of material and though it doesn't teach you EVERYTHING you need to know this book combined to going with some other people to a show made me feel confident enough to start showing my own dogs. I have never forgotten some of the things she said in this book. As I go through the dog showing life events can cause her words to ring in my head and bring me peace such as when I meet the occasional meanie "...but keep in mind the meanest people are often the ones with the least going for them." Ain't that the truth!
D. Caroline Coile is a good author. She writes good breeding articles for Dog World all the time and her book Pit Bulls for Dumies, I think, is the most breed-informative of all the "for Dummies" books on dog breeds. I have or have had Labrador Retrievers for Dummies, Golden Retrievers for Dummies, Rottweilers for Dummies, Retired Racing Greyhounds for Dummies, and Boxers for Dummies, all by other authors, and, blah, I felt like I was reading a general dog care book with just a tiny amount of breed-specific information you could find ANYWHERE in ANY BOOK. I feel like Coile gets more into explaining the essence of the breed in her book.
Wow! This little book packs a punch!.......2005-09-20
This book is an excellent start for beginners. It answered almost every question I had and is very easy to read. I would highly recommend this book.
The best book for starters.......2005-05-18

The BEST Book I've Read Yet!.......2004-09-28
This is a fantastic book for the owner-handler competing against the professionals! It helps out the novice as well by explaining dog shows. However, I've been in dog shows since I was young and needed a book for the next level. This was perfect! There were so many hints, tips and techniques that I had never heard of. There were hints on training your dog, using your dog's best assets, handler techiniques etc. I couldn't put the book down! This book needs to be in every dog showers library.

Possibly the most controversal book ever produced.......2005-05-11
This is a one-of-a-kind book. A 'must have' for parents who are struggling to teach thier children about sex. This book is very comprehensive without being too overly suggestive. But then again, we are living in a very different time. I would not be surprised if this book was considered child pornography by current standards.
The book *clearly* depicts sexual arousal of children which is rare even in the most extreme of sexual education books designed for children.
Conservative parents will most likely be offended at the mere thought of a child viewing this book. Only the most open-minded of parents will appreciate this book not only as a work of art in itself, but also a valuable tool for teaching children about sex.
If you are a parent and are considering obtaining this rare collectible book, I would strongly caution you. You WILL be shocked as you have never seen anything like it before, or will you ever see anything like it again thanks to our ever oppressive views about childhood sexuality.
BEFORE YOU BUY...........2005-04-06
Consider how your peers would react to purchasing a graphic representation of children. The reaction may range from mockery to computer hacking in a vigilante manner.
"Show Me!"...unique, explicit & sadly controversial..........2005-02-18
"Show Me!", by Will McBride, NY, St. Martin's Press, 1975, LCCCN 74-30507 (pbk), 176 pgs., large format 8.5" x 12" is a book of photographs with captions by McBride plus significant informative explanatory text by Dr. Helga Fleischhauer-Hardt who discusses how to best present these explicit photographs and the book's sexual content to children and the appropriate ages to do so -- and Helga then appropriately delves into the issues of breast feeding, adolesence, puberal changes, menses, sexual anatomies, pregnancy, masturbation, contraception, sexual behavioral disturbances and veneral disease.
First published in Germany, 1974, -- it became a national best seller. Promoted as "A Picture Book of Sex for Children and Parents", I fear today's society will be inclined to view the book as permissive if not overly licentious. The B/W photographs of genitalia, etc. are explicit and encompass age groups from the very young to adult -- pre-puberal erections and some genital touchings between the sexes is depicted. I am not aware of any book comparable to this illustrated primer that fills the needs of sexual education so well -- but I do recall the apprehension and fury when this book was first marketed, a time before AIDS was discovered and before teen-age pregnancies flourished.
Knowing many parents strenuously object to having public schools provide sex education for their children, this book might be one these parents could utilize to provide illustrated factual information. This book does not mention the bird and the bees.
Unique.......2001-05-26
I have been a book collector for most of my life. If you asked me what book most deserves the title, One-Of-a-Kind, I'd answer with out hesitation SHOW ME! It's like no other book ever published before and in all likelihood no other book that ever will be published in the future. I'm absolutely amazed that it was ever sold openly at mainstream book stories but it was.
The photos are certainly some of the most beautiful nudes I have ever seen. However on first viewing most people will be quite shocked. To some it is the epitome of child porn. However I disagree. The actions of the models are all very natural.
This book routinely sells on e-bay and Bibliofind for as much as three or four hundred dollars. This puts it out of the price range of all but serious collectors. Even so I'd say it's a good investment. It is so far out of the ordinary that I can't imagine the value will ever drop.
Not dangerous for children, but adults?.......2000-04-10
I first saw the book Show Me at the age of four. I was neither shocked or offended as I viewed it with pure innocence. Within 10 minutes I knew what sex was. Sexuality issues I later developed were not the result of viewing this book, but rather interactions I had with other people. However, it can be a very odd book for an adult to own. It may either say the parent is very progressive or a possible pedophile. I strongly believe their are two very distinct sides of the fence in this matter, one which is pure of mind and one which is very dangerous. When it comes from a loving parent, this book is a straight forward, honest approach to teaching sexuality.

meh.. there's better books out there.......2007-05-25
This booklet isn't bad, but it is mostly example projects to go through. After being only magazine size and 64 pages, that leaves little room for tips, instruction of advice. Being generous, its the first 18 pages where there is any info that's useful.
I would recommend looking elsewhere, such as Machine Quilting Made Easy or Easy Machine Quilting.

Thank you Kathy Sandbach! I LOVE your book!!
I couldn't wait to read it all and just picked out patterns and had a go! Liberating, easy to follow and fun! With practise, I can do them all, not to this lady's standard yet, but I'm getting there and improvising with a little 'kiwi' ingenuity along the way...Until I picked up this book, I wasn't a quiltmaker at all, -just a quilt top maker...my how things have changed!
Show Me How to Machine Quilt: A Fun, No-Mark Approach.......2005-10-29
For those of us who aren't artists or doodelers, this gives us great ideas of what to put on all those tops we have made. If you can't picture a design to be put on top of your beautiful square......this helps. It is a great guide to get on with the next step and actually "quilt".

EASY 1-2-3 BOOK; HIDDEN PAYROLL SECRETS REVEALED.......2006-12-16
For people who just want to know how to use Quickbooks so they can get on with their business, this book is straight and to-the-point. Every page is in a 1-2-3-4-5-6 step format, which is quite easy to follow. Also, unlike some books, Show Me Quickbooks does address the Payroll function (a part of Quickbooks which Intuit--since it wants users to subscribe to its Quickbooks Payroll Service for a monthly fee--has programmed to be, without 'tweaking', initially unuseable.
To access the payroll function, you must first make sure the initial "full payroll" option is activated. Do this by clicking Edit/Preferences/Payroll & Employees/Company Preferences, and checking the "Full Payroll" option.
Next, on page 39, under the heading "Set up Payroll Deductions" the book tells you to select the "Payroll Item List" from the Lists Menu. News flash--there is no "Payroll Item List". For the benefit of others who encounter this problem...I was able to make the Payroll Items list magically appear by performing the following steps (THESE STEPS ARE NOT SHOWN IN THE BOOK):
1. Type "payroll item" in the search box.
2. From the selections available, click "adding payroll items"
3. Click "payroll setup interview"
4. Click "What if menu item isn't there"
5. Click "payroll manually"
6. Click "set my company file to use manual calculations"....and (after a dire warning that daring to proceed will alter your program forever), the program initializes the manual payroll function.
7. Voila! The Payroll List, and the ability to do your own payroll without paying for the Quickbooks Online Payroll Service magically appears in your Quickbooks 2006 program.

"The pipe bomb was small as pipe bombs go, but the explosion could be heard from several blocks away--a sharp bang as rows of factory-fresh ceramic tiles shattered into a pile of razor-edged rubble. Neighbors who were drifting off to sleep sat upright, awake. Family members who were preparing for bed looked at each other first with questions, then with certainty they had the answer. 'I guess somebody is trying to blow up the new housing,' one man joked to his wife. But it wasn't a joke. That's exactly what someone was trying to do."
In 1988, when a federal judge ordered the city of Yonkers, New York, to integrate more thoroughly its low-income housing throughout the city, it set off a bitter dispute that would consume the town for the next five years. Among those caught in the controversy was the city's 28-year-old mayor, Nicholas Wasicsko, who had used the issue to his advantage during his campaign and found that he would never be able to escape it, either during or after his administration. Veteran New York Times journalist Lisa Belkin focuses not on the abstract "sides" of the integration debate, but on the people who take those sides. It's that personal perspective that makes her account most worth reading.
Book Description
In the grand reportorial tradition of J. Anthony Lukass's Common Ground, SHOW ME A HERO is a tale of one city, divided by fear and racism, murder and politics, and notions of home and community.
When Nicholas Wasicsko was growing up, he knew he was going to be mayor of Yonkers. The other kids teased him about his dream, calling him "The Mayor" on the basketball court. But on November 3, 1987, when he was only twenty-eight years old, Nick did indeed become mayor - in fact, the country's youngest.
It turned out to be less than a dream job. The city had just been slapped with a court order demanding that it build public housing on the white, middle-class side of town in order to right what the judge saw as intentional, decades-long pattern of segregation. Shortly after taking office, and after careful deliberation with the city's lawyers, Nick agreed to comply with the court order. This decision would lead to a virtual civic meltdown, and the shattering of his own hopes and dreams.
SHOW ME A HERO is about the battle between the judge and Nick's city, and also about what happens after - after the lawyers have gone, the protesting has stopped, the townhouses have been built, and the newcomers have moved in. It's about Alma Febles, a magnetic young mother desperate to move her three children into a real home. It's about the nearly blind Norma O'Neal, who couldn't get home health care in the projects. It's about Mary Dorman, an activist-first, against housing; then, gradually, for it - for the first time in her life. And it's about Nick Wasicsko and his wife, Nay, trying to build a life amid the political rubble.
SHOW ME A HERO is riveting tale, made more urgent by the fact that the hard lessons Nick had to learn are ones that countless cities will face in the future. Across the country, monolithic housing projects are being demolished and replaced by scattered-site public housing built in middle-class neighborhoods. One by one, these cities will learn, as Yonkers did, as Nick did, what this means for a nation whose people preach, diversity but who are most comfortable when surrounded by others like themselves.
Customer Reviews:
nonfiction that reads like a narrative.......1999-07-07
This is a well written book that encourages thinking about important social issues. The City of Yonkers was forced by the courts to desegregate housing after years of discriminating against minorities. The decision was made to have small groups of cluster homes scattered throughout white neighborhoods. All hell broke loose in the white communities after the court decision. Whites feared a minority presence and a decline in property values and fought viciously against the homes. Poor families hoped for a safer, better place to live and raise their families. A balanced and complex story, well wrought, with an interesting cast of characters from politicians to single mothers desperate to move their families to safer neighborhoods. All the answers about the future of public housing aren't here, but certainly a clearer concept of the issues involved, from personal to political, can be gathered from this fascinating story.
A Non-Fiction Novel About Yonkers.......1999-04-16
Lisa Belkin does a wonderful job weaving a narrative about Yonkers's desegregation struggle (or at least part of it). In her effort to achieve more than a dry rendition of the crisis, which paralyzed Yonkers for several years she left a few things out. Among them are the following: the Black and Hispanic communities in Yonkers in whose name the case was brought; the Yonkers school system (yes it did start as an education case); the political structure, including former Mayor (and now Republican leader) Angelo Martinelli; the moderate citizen groups, including Canopy and the Fair Housing Council; the court's monitor Joe Pastore, etc. Reading it, one is left with the impression that the collision (or cataclysm) was inevitable. It wasn't. As in Kosovo, political leaders played on people's ethnic fears and racial divisions for narrow political gain.
Yet, the impossiblity of having a true narrative is well documented in Janet Malcolm's recent book, The Crime of Sheila McGough. As in Rashomon, it depends on what you are looking at, and, perhaps, what you are looking for.
Sensational. A true slice of what it was it was really like.......1999-03-29
I've never written one of these before, but I just read that reader from New England and I had to respond. I think we read two different books. The one I read captured the chaos and heartbreak of the city I have lived in all my life. I was at a lot of the meetings and clashes that fill this book, and reading Belkin I felt like I was there all over again. More important, I learned so much about the behind the scenes wrangling that I didn't know. One dimensional? No way. She peered into people's souls. Did she streamline? Yes. And as a reader, I thank her. The point was the essence of a city in chaos, and she painted that portrait in gritty and riveting detail. It wasn't her job to make sure everyone in town got their name in her book. As for Hollywood, I don't think they'll have the guts to make this movie. There are no pat happy endings here and no easy answers. Just a story that I couldn't put down.
Facts Shave and Omitted to Fit Movie Script Story Line.......1999-03-28
Book grossly fails to lay groundwork that led to period covered which, as a result, fails to offer appropriate and needed perspective to explain the story she tells. Also, many elements of book appear to reflect superficial research relying on sole sources (many with axes to grind or self-serving aims to rewrite city history). The real tragedy is that if this becomes only book to try to capture terror and turmoil suffered in Yonkers for more than a decade and a half (twice the period covered in her book), it will be a serious disservice to all those who lived through it, and will sadly miss the mark in alerting other communities to the numerous missed opportunities and misjudgements that needlessly plunged the city of 200,000 into a truly lost 15 year period of chaos and hell. While there is much blame and fault to go around, author's omissions unfairly causes some to shoulder too much of the blame for what went wrong, glorifies others far beyond their actual contributions, lets others who should significantly share the blame off the hook by either no mention or minimal, and ignores many unsung behind the scene community leaders whose deeds kept the city together. Somewhere. it would seem the author went from pursuing a fact based assessment about a city when confronted with the ultimate test in facing its darkest reaches almost self-destructed to a slick story line fit for a movie script.
Excellent--Truly a "nonfiction novel".......1999-03-26
An engrossing, "I cannot put it down" book. Belkin takes facts and turns them into one of the best stories yet. I would recommend it without qualification. A MUST
