Fantastic book.......2007-08-03
This is a great book for any one who currently owns a doberman or is wanting to get a doberman. I highly recommend you read this book. It covers everything from training to proper diet to health care for the animal. It also gives you a nice history of the doberman, and the photos in the book are gorgeous. Yes I am a doberman lover and breeder, and after many years of searching for a good reference book I have found it, this is the one. It doesn't cover 100% everything, but it gives you a lot of pertinent and necessry information.

I found that this book has lots of descriptive pictures and answers all questions that I had about the breed. The book elaborates on thorough history of the breed, standards and care, including the care of an elderly Doberman. This is a very helpful handbook about the Doberman breed.

This is a great book for everyone who is thinking about owning a Dobie, or is already an owner. It is written beautifully, and is very informative. It's the best Doberman book on the market at this time. BUY IT!
The Doberman Pinscher.......2006-03-09
Nicely presented. I didn't appreciate the European/German dogs being slated so openly. This is a German dog after all. Even the fact that the Americans can't give the breed the correct spelling 'Dobermann' just shows how arrogant they are. The fact that the Americans have watered down the temperament is so sad. I have a bitch of Italian/Yugoslavian bloodlines and I personally don't know how you could want to possible tone her down. So... I would rather not have bought it. Soured the whole thing for me.

Having never owned a doberman before and recently rescueing a three year old, this book was enormously helpful. What a wonderful breed of dog!

Grabs your attention from page one!! Concise writing, good flow of events. Believable - well, most of it but it is fiction, after all!! I feel you can't go wrong with Stuart Woods for an enjoyable read.

I was so excited after reading "Orchid Beach" to read part two of the Holly Barker Novels "Orchid Blues". The first 10 chapters were good and kept me interested, however, after that this book just dragged on and on and on. I mean I thought the novels were about Holly Barker not her father Ham. This book focused more on Ham and him investigating a group of individuals than it did on Holly and her investigative skills. I hope this book doesn't deter me from reading other Holly Barker novels. There were some pretty good points in the book though, some parts I actually really enjoyed, esepcially how Mr. Woods tied in Stone Barrington to this particular story. I loved that! Other than that I felt like this book was a really long read for me and I'd actually have to say it bored me most of the time. I have the next book Blood Orchid, I do hope its a much better book than this one. I'll give the series another chance.

What a terrible story, was unable to finish it, Stuart Woods was at one time a very good author, but when he started with Holly and Stone, he in effect quit writing, this is about a militant band of right wingers robbing banks and oh by the way just had to kill Holly's intended just an hour before the wedding which didn't seem to break Holly up all that much as she still has her best friend, her dog and her father which she has conversations with regarding three somes and their sex lives in general, Signet books and Stuart Woods should both be ashamed of themselves for putting this on the market.
THIS ORCHID DOESN'T BLOSSOM.......2005-04-10
After an impressive debut in ORCHID BEACH, we meet Holly Barker on her wedding day....a day that is destined to become a fateful day instead of a happy one. Woods paints a picture of a heroine who seems more interesting in solving the bank robbery than mourning the loss of the man she supposedly wanted to spend the rest of her life with. In a painfully dreadful narrative, Woods presents us with another variation on the extremist group of fanatics who want to make the US better by getting rid of anyone who isn't white. Been done so many times before, that it's redundant in this tepid story. Woods doesn't offer us anything new and the pacing is so slow, it becomes sleep inducing. Woods also makes the mistake of having Ham, Holly's tough father, carry the weight of the book. While Ham's an okay guy, he comes across as a Dirk Pitt or superman in this one, and it just didn't work for me. The ending is also pretty lame, and even the inclusion of Stone Barrington, makes little narrative sense. A real disappointment; is the third any better???

This was the perfect book. There were lots of photos and extra tid-bits throughout, plus all of the information I needed for choosing and training my Dobe puppy. It was very thorough, but easy to read.

This is a very good book. It really surprised me. All the methods sound very good, and will hopefully work. (iam getting a doberman in 2 weeks). I suggest you peoplr give this book a try.

Great book for new Doberman owners.......2007-07-14
If you have or are planning on getting a Doberman puppy, this book should be required reading. It does not go too into depth on the subject of raising a Doberman as it is a subject that requires thousands of pages, but it does give you a great "first look" at raising a Doberman. If you have researched Dobermans excessively, this is not the book for you as it will not tell you anything new, but if you need a good introduction to caring for this noble breed it is a great read.

If I could, I would give this book a 3.5. The book is well written, and if you are new to Dobermans, it is a very nice book to add to you collection. Though to anyone experienced, it does not add any personal insight, and nothing extremely new or exciting. Overall it reads nicely, and has a nice sound to it. I was pleasantly surprised, as this is one of the few good Doberman books I have come across. For anyone who is interested or new to the breed, this is definetly a good choice.

Being a Doberman enthousiast, I read every dobe book that I can get my hands on. The author is a well known and successful breeder and judge, but I was dissapointed that this book was not filled with more personal insight into the breed. If you know absolutely nothing about how to raise a dog, this would be a good book. I did enjoy some of the pictures, however.
Great Book for Any Doberman Pinscher Owner.......2000-06-14
I was surprised to search Doberman Pinscher on Amazon.com and find out Faye had written a book! Faye knows Doberman Pinschers quite well and was co-breeder of one of my males, Sherlucks Pan Am Machu Picchu. I was skeptical but decided to purchase the book. Faye is an excellent author and really gets into grooming and health plus training, what to expect from your Doberman and about every aspect of canine ownership. Having several books already on Dobermans I was pleasantly surprised by Ms. Strauss's book. It reads well and is well written. I'd recommend it to both new and experienced Doberman owners. It's never too late to teach an old dog, or owner for that manner, a new trick or two! I am now going to buy a second book for a friend as well.
Excellent beginner's book on Dobes.......2000-03-27
This book is great for people new to the Doberman. It gives an overview of the breed's history, temperment, care and training requirements. It touches on the different activities you can participate in with your Doberman and lists addresses to contact for more info. The health care chapter briefly explains all the major diseases and parasites that you must have your dog vaccinated against. For more indepth training methods for the novice, however, it is best to consult a specific manual on the subject. Overall the book is one of the better I have read on any breed!

Inspiring book you will never forget........2007-07-10
I am a big fan of autobiographies and Thomas tells his story like no other. Thomas shares his intimate feelings and how he overcame his downward descent with the help of a puppy. Anyone who has been down and out knows that sometimes you need something to grab as your life preserver, for Thomas it was his puppy Martin. Anyone who deals with alcoholism, wether in their own family or within themselves, will benefit from reading this story of triumph and overcoming the clutches of alcohol and how it effects us and everyone around us. An inspiring read you will not soon forget.
Dogs, faith, and love.......2007-03-31
I finished this book last night and was sorry to have it end. I had really enjoyed looking forward to picking up where I had left off the previous reading. This story was well written because it was from the heart. An honest look at oneself by a man who was redeemed and given a second chance by his love for a dog. His deepening faith over a long period of time, as a Roman Catholic, was beautifully depicted, as was his love for his mother and his wonderfully supportive sister, Mary. I would recommend this book for anyone who loves dogs; has an addiction; or wants to read an inspiring story of increased faith by a very beautiful author. Hope you keep writing more for us!

This is a very interesting autobiographical book about the author at a crucial decade in his life journey. It's a period of life that he shares with a dog, which why I bought the book and read it. It was very enjoyable to read and I'm always happy to see it on the shelf at the bookstore because I know others will buy and read it as well. This self-taught author is a remarkable person.

if you enjoy a lot of great pictures of doberman pinschers, then this is the book for you. it was a bit too brief on some key issues, such as proper puppy training and handling. also did not delve very far into breed specific maladies, such as color dilution alopecia, which is seen in blues. infomative, yet too brief.

Excellent Book For The New Doberman Buyer.......2004-07-12
I have recomended this book for years. I am a Doberman Breeder, and it is an excellent source of information. The has several different pictures, that expaline to the novice what the true standard for the breed should look like. It also give some training instructions, and some health issues are covered. I know it is a book that will stay in my refrence collection. Yes it is an older book, but still holds true, information.

This book is interesting to see some of the differences between the Doberman standard in the U.K and in the U.S.
