Book Description
When Blessed Are The Blood Mares was published in 1978, no other single source existed that contained such a wide range of information on the care of the breeding of mare from mating, through gestation, to foaling and nursing, and on the care of the young horse. Now there is: the second edition of this classic.

For the serious broodmare manager..........2007-06-08
I really enjoyed this book, especially because it went into detail about what to look for in the neo-natal foal and post-partum mare. It gave distinct things to look for which helped enable me to make the decision to call my vet in the middle of the night, and eventually saved my colt's life. Indispensible book to have on the book shelf if you breed and foal your own mares. Another great thing about this book, is that it goes into detail about when to re-breed after foaling, when not to, and what steps you will go thru (explained) on how to get her pregnant. Not quite enough information for me on follicle size measurements, edema measurements, short cycling, etc., but for the most part, this is a must have book.
Pleasant and informative.......2003-09-06
Provides people new to breeding a good overall view of the process. It is easy to read and a good reference. This is not the highly technical manual that would turn away the amatuer. At the same time it lacks depth to be a truly serious resource.
great book.......2003-01-03
A must have for the average horse person. This book is extrememly informative, written in a lively way that keeps you reading from start to finish, and is understandable by the layman. I would recommend it highly.
Excellent resource for novice breeders.......2002-05-29
This book is a great resource for novice breeders. There is great information and knowledge will help you put your mind at ease. I recommend this book for everyone who is hoping for their first foal.
no job for a lady.......2000-12-31
Honestly, I have not read these professional advice books by Dr. Lose. However, If I ever have cause to need advice or mares, foals, or any other health advice on horses, I will be sure to consult her teachings on the subject. I just want to take this opportunity tell anyone interested in her current publications to please read the one book that really gives us the opportunity to have an inside look into what her world is really all about, and to see how she grew into that world. That book is "No Job For A Lady". See where it all started! What a charming and engrossing viewpoint projected by a great veterinarian in the making. Thanks, Phyllis. I read this when I was 10 years old, and 22 years later, I still remeber what I saw.

great refresher course!.......2006-07-30
I purchased this book to become reacquainted with equine reproduction after spending a year in equine practice without reproduction. The text was direct, succinct, and well-versed without extra details that come with other in-depth textbooks. There are many pictures and diagrams, though I would have preferred to see more present. Overall, I feel that the Manual is a great refresher course for veterinarians and equine reproduction specialists. However, I would not recommend this book as the sole text while learning equine reproduction for the first time.
Not a good book.......2004-02-11
This book is for the very advanced. It uses all medical terminology and is very basic with details. They assume it is for vet students. There is no glossary and there are highlighted words that they never explain. It is pure awful!!!!
Manual of Equine Reproduction.......2000-02-24
This book covers every aspect of equine reproduction from the preperation of a stallion prior to the start of the breeding season all the way through to the care and management of the mare and foal post partum. This book covers in absolute detail, the step by step format of every situation that would or could occur during the 15 to 18 month period that leads from conception to post foaling management. This is a book that every farm manager as well as the weekend horse breeder should have access to 24 hours a day.

Book Description
This text is divided into three main sections: the mare, the stallion, and the neonate. Each is equally important to veterinarians involved in equine reproductive practice. Too often, interest in the mare wanes once her pregnancy is diagnosed. Monitoring of pregnancy and neonatal care are areas of prime importance, because presumably the aim of any breeding program is to produce viable offspring. In addition, education regarding stallion reproductive physiology and management is alarmingly sparse, and the stallion is often neglected despite being half the fertility equation. The discussions of the mare and stallion are divided into the following topics: anatomy, physiology, and endocrinology; breeding management; diseases of the reproductive tract; and reproductive surgery. Additional topics in the section on the mare are pregnancy, parturition, and the puerperal period. Discussion of the neonate is divided into neonatal care and diseases according to body systems. Ninety-five authors and co-authors have contributed to this work. The number of North American authors reflects their affiliations; however, readers should note chapters by numerous internationally recognized educators from both Northern and Southern Hemispheres.

I wanted it much more!.......2006-07-14
It is the highest book because it widely learns horse's breeding.
The person to whom a clinical person also is doing the basic research and the
student want to have it by all means.
There is value of this amount of money enough.
You'll never leave it home.......2001-07-30
A very useful and comprehensive book that covers the needs of the field vet as well as the ones of the university researcher. Detailed sections on each subject are well organised and easy to move trough (uncommon fact for a book of this size). I bought it for practice use and is a constant source of useful informations. It always clears my doubts.
Equine Repro.......2001-01-11
This book is a thorough review of current techniques in equine reproduction medicine. The level of detail is extensive, thus making this book a great reference for the equine practitioner. It includes background information as well as currently accepted treatment protocols, so is very handy for both equine vets and vet students (like myself). Highly recommended for students & practitioners specializing in equine medicine.
This is a technical book on reproduction in the horse........1999-11-10
This book is a technical book on breeding of the horse and while it covers evertything from problems with the mare, problems with the stallion, foaling problems it is not written in a language easily understood by the average horseman. It does cover topics such as anatomy, physiology, endocrinology, the estrous cycle, reproductive examination, manipulating the reproductive cycle, reproductive surgery, pregnancy, partuition, the stallion and the foal as well as diseases and disorders affecting breeding it is not easy reading. There is a great deal of information in the book containing 1114 pages, good photographs, and a great deal of information I found that I personally was seeking a more down to earth book that laid out breeding in simpler terms. it does not go into genetic inheritance except in genes that might cause death or abnormalities. I would reccommend it for anyone who would be interested in breeding on a large scale but not for someone wanting to produce one or two foals.
Book Description
Written for students and all with a general interest in breeding horses, this book sets out to provide a basic understanding with sufficient practical information for beginners to get started.Enough reproductive physiology of the mare and stallion is included to clarify the management techniques which are explained later in the book, but unnecessary details are avoided. Artificial insemination and embryo transfer are also explained, as are selecting the broodmare and stallion, management at covering and during pregnancy, and post-partum care of the mare and foal.
