This combo is a nice resource. Some subject are very informative, other lacking. It's not the super book that some reviews might lead you to believe, but an adequate general resource to raising a puppy at a nice price. Video is a complement to the book. Be sure to also get a book specific to your puppies breed.

Not what I Was Looking For.......2007-09-18

In the domesticated animal world I have noticed that animals I want/need to train don't speak English. They speak who'sthebiggest. They use biting and kicking (horse, ouch)to communicate. I was looking for a book that would help me communicate to a very wily puppy that our family is ahead of him in the pecking order. This book was not suitable for us, as it did not cleary establish that the dog is a dog. This training method may work better for someone with a less willful breed. We found excellent results with training classes at our local Petsmart.

This book did wonders for my understanding of dogs' "thought process". i wish I read this book years ago. If I had, my dogs would have always been trained and well behaved. Everyone is surprised at how well behaved my 7 month old puppy is. This is a must!

This is one of the better puppy books currently out. It gives not only background information on dog types and their tendencies..but a easy and fun way to train them and what works for certian peronality types. It tells why doing or not doing certian things effect the puppy's learning to be a good dog.

I dont know who loves this book more, me or my son. He is so captivated by all of the exciting textures, flaps, fur, etc. We picked this book up on a whim, never imagining I would be looking for every other Dr. Seuss Nursery book to add to our collection. My 17 month old LOVES this book! Most of the classic Dr. Seuss books are too long & wordy for her (and she really loves reading), so this is a great introduction to the silliness. Plus, this book is very interactive (pets have hair, drink pink ink, play games, etc.) Would definitely recommend it!

Owning Sibs and other breeds over the years I laughed till I had tears reading about Caesar. What a great read. Not that I recommend it for the bathroom reading but that is the only place my hubby will read. I walked past the door one day and he was laughing hysterically. I just knocked on the dog and asked "Caesar?" He replied "Lived that one before!"
After having lived with so many characters over the years it is easy to see that they really are true stories. If you have a dog lover in your life this should be in their stocking.

My Life in Dog Years, written by Gary Paulsen was one of the funniest books I've read in a long time. Gary Paulsen has an extremely different way of writing from other authors. I have read a couple of his other books. This was probably not his best, but it was well written. I would highly recommend it for any dog lover.

If you know how to pronounce the Spanish words correctly, this is a great book for toddlers. I've used it with my Toddler Spanish classes, and even my 4-7 year olds as they are learning to form their own opinions and original sentences in Spanish. I love the simplistic, yet BRIGHT pictures and how wonderfully sturdy the slick pages are.

Use this along with Flip Flop Spanish workbook, and you've got a great combo!

I like goats. They are good people, I mean pets. I mean that they are americans, like sheep. I like to refresh my memory about goats, that is why I bought this book. It helped me remember my fun visit with some little boys and girls where I told them about my pet who was a goat. I liked the story, especially the pictures.

Great Spanish/English Series.......2003-12-17

Raising a multilingual child is difficult particularly in our mono-lingual culture. It is all too easy to resort to the English default. As a parent I have to make an extra conscious effort to speak Spanish to my daughter and familiarize her ear with the sounds she will hopefully use one day. In this regard bi-lingual books have been essential in helping me to set aside Spanish-time. I have read this series of board books by Rebecca Emberley to my daughter since she was 3-months old and they are still among her favorites at 15 months. These books are ideal for interacting with your baby and toddler in a multilingual fashion. The illustrations are bright and colorful and the pages withstand repeated vigorous turning by little hands. Each page presents a single word in English and Spanish for added comprehension, yet ideal for short attention spans. Thank you for a wonderful series.

These are a great series of well & simply illustrated books that my son absolutely loves. He knows the spanish words before english (we are primarily english speakers) for so many things, and he learns them here first! My husband has also learned quite a few words from the series as well....

I picked this book up at a bookstore and expected it to be kinda dumb but I had a few minutes to kill so I started flipping through it. It was hilarious. I ended up standing there way longer than I intended to bugging the crap out of my spouse-"Look at this!" "Look at this!". First of all, I fully admit that I'm addicted to the stuffonmycat website. It makes me giggle every day.

Second, this book is a priceless "best-of" collection from that site. Cat lovers will be in hysterics seeing their feline friends decorated with all sorts of outfits, food products, and other household goods. Dog lovers will love mocking the cats in all their indignity!

Truly, this is a unique book and SOOOO much better than the bad cat-type book on the market. Great stocking stuffer or white elephant gift!

This photo collection is great. The pictures are hilarious and strangely mesmerizing. It boggles the mind that people could actually get cats into these poses. This is a great book to just have sitting around for people to flip through and talk about when they visit.

My only complaint (hence the three stars), is Stuff On My Cats slightly questionable policy on animal safety. Yes, I'm overprotective of my kitty, so probably just paranoia on my part. I've just noticed that, infrequently, Stuff On My Cat will have a pic that makes me wonder about the comfort and safety of the cat. Their website has a picture of a kid actually sitting on top of a cat's stomach - hope that is an effect created by camera angles and not for real! Because they take submissions from the public I doubt that there is any way to verify the methods used to take those pictures.

On the other hand, Funniest Home Videos has been cashing in for years on videos of kids falling on their heads, and this is certainly way better than that! Overall, a cute, cute book.

I received this as a gift for my birthday from a good friend of mine and loved it! This is one of those books you see in a book store and look through it but never buy for yourself. This is why it makes a great gift idea. You will crack up every single time you flip through it and would even be good to have in your bathroom. Buy this book for anyone who needs a good laugh even if they aren't "cat people", they will still like it.

which the talented and admirable writer, Arnette Heidcamp, leads the reader through - namely, the first months of a Hummingbird's life, from the beginning of winter to the advent of spring.

Ms. Heidcamp has amazing expertise in both bird and plant life, and what one appreciates also is her great love of them both. One wants to thank her for this lovely book and for the precious photographs which accompany it.

Throughout the book, the reader gets to know Squeak more and more, to understand the habits and traits of this darling hummingbird, and to realize what an intelligence it has. Ms. Heidcamp is dedicated and devoted and, yes, the ending is sad. I have to admit I shed a tear or two as a reader saying goodby. I can only imagine what an emotional time Ms. Heidcamp had to go through, after fostering this hummingbird so carefully and intimately, when the time came to set Squeak free.

I have alredy got several of Ms. Heidcamp's other books lined up to read, and even signed up with Random House to get an e-mail notice when she has a new book published.

I can't praise this wonderful literary and photographic pursuit highly enough. Reading this book was a true joy!

This was good if you want to have a basic understanding of what your cat's body movements mean and how they translate to how they are feeling. I recommend to read it with your children as there are many good pictures and it will better help them understand when to pet the cat and when to let it alone!

I bought this after reading other reviews, but I was extremely disapponted in this book. The title is very misleading. I've had cats for years and wanted to learn more about their behavior and the differnt types of meows. This book does NOT do this. It's very basic and they write about behavior most children could figure out after being around their cat for a while. It mostly addresses cats behavior with other cats which an idiot can figure out without having to read about it. Not worth the money.

The author seems to know her stuff.

The book has an excellent lay out. Lots of pictures, easy to navigate, wonderful index, sort of like a FAQ on cat behavior.

Everyone from the novice to experienced cat owner is likely to learn something about the subject.

The subject itself is a little bland. Before you cat lovers all get upset about this remark, let me explain. According to Bailey the majority of cat behavior is rather simple, basic needs for safety, exploration, food, etc. Cat behavior is also rather simple: tail up or down, rub off scent, etc. This makes portions of the book repetitious. This is not a complaint. It is better to be truthful and a little bland than to invent a bunch of human response and lay those on the cat.

All in all it's a good book and worth owning. Cat owners won't be disappointed.

This is a very cool book. I would say that kids ages three to nine should read this book. This book is about a boy whos parents let him get a puppy. It has great pictures that illistrate how the boy takes care of his puppy. This book teaches kids that they should take care of there pets. They should always do things with their animals like walking and feeding it.

This story (about a boy who brings a puppy home) is told from the boy's point-of-view, but the illustrations are another matter!

The boy says, "I am teaching my puppy how to heel" and we see the boy wrapped in the leash... the puppy straining to break free and play. The boy says, "...he already knows how to fetch" and we see him throwing a stick. On the following page, an angry lady is chasing the puppy... who is running away from her with a lady's hat in his mouth!

The story ends on a sweet note.

I really love how the Little Critter books focus on events that are real to children, and focus so much on the family in such a positive, light way.

And my children love this book.

I thought this book was very cute. My daughter who is 3 loves it. She wanted us to read it every nite for the first week. I would highly recommend this book to anyone with small children. It portrays all the responsibilities that come along with having a puppy in a very amusing way.

Simple Text Appeals to Young Readers.......2007-02-19

We recently introduced Biscuit to our daughter (nearly age 2 yrs). She asks to read about Biscuit's bath several times a day and comments as we read together. The word repetition creates an easy rhythm we both enjoy. The text and drawings work well together.

We like it for all the wrong reasons........2005-10-14

My 6-year-old brought this book home from school, and it's a fine learning-to-read book for her. What struck her, though, was the (unintentionally?) hilarious nature of a few of the illustrations. They have to be seen to be appreciated. Call us juvenile, but we laughed until we cried. I'm buying one for home, and more for gifts! Thanks, Biscuit!

Great Children's book.......2005-09-21

My daughter loves the Biscuit series books! I think she's attracted to the cute golden dog named Biscuit. It also helps when her dad or me read the books with animation.

Great beginner reader book!.......2004-05-06

My daughter, who is 5, loves all the Biscuit books! They're great for beginner readers! We haven't found any she likes better, so we just keep on buying all the Biscuit books we can find. She is definitely a Biscuit fan!
