Informative.......2006-11-04
This book gives you insight into the breed and how to care for it.
Great book about Bostons!.......2006-02-08
We just got a Boston puppy a couple months ago & we were looking for a good book to summarize their care & general things about a Boston. This book is great! I use it as a reference guide when I have questions.
Great Guide.......2003-04-18
I'm no expert on the Boston Terrier, which is why I like this book. We're planning on adopting one this summer, and I've been hunting for good, user-friendly BT books. This one covers everything, it's to the point, and the last four chapters are full of good advice for any dog owner, regardless of the breed. I wanted a manual I could refer to over and over again ~ this one fits the bill. :o)
Great Book to Learn About Bostons.......2002-07-05
I bought this book after it being recommended by a breeder. It was exactly the kind of book that I was wanting. It provides specifics on the health problems, grooming tactics, and eating habits of the dog, which were the most important subjects I was looking for. The latter part of the book discusses how to enjoy your dog, though it isn't specifically directed toward the Boston. This is a great book and a must-have for any Boston Terrier owner.
Incomplete.......2001-03-16
I bought this book hoping to learn more about the breed and their special needs. However only the first half of the book was breed specific. The shopping lists and breed history was interesting, but I still have many unanswered questions about basic care. The second half had basic training tips that applies to all breeds. This may be a good book for someone who is looking for a general overview of the breed, but if you're looking for a detailed manual about how to care for and train a puppy, adult, and senior Boston Terrier, this book isn't it.

MOST INFORMATIVE BOOK I FOUND.......2006-03-21
MY SON DECIDED TO GET A BOSTON TERRIER, HIS WIFE IS PREGNANT AND THEY WANTED A DOG THAT WOULD DO WELL WITH CHILDREN. THEY WANTED TO BE GOOD PARENTS TO THE PUPPY AS WELL AS THE BABY AND THIS BOOK HAD MORE INFO ON THE BOSTON TERRIER THAN ANY I LOOKED AT. IT COVERS THE FULL SPECTRUM FROM THE THOUGHT OF A BOSTON TERRIER TO ACTUALLY BRINGING IT HOME AND CARING FOR IT THROUGH IT'S LIFE. BEST BOOK I FOUND!
Basic Knowledge.......2002-03-16
This is a good starting book for those who are considering a Boston. It provides basic care information, but it is best paired with other books on Boston's so as to get the full picture. This would be a good starting book for someone who is trying to decide which puppy to get and wants a little information on the breed.
Though I recommend it be combined with other books, this is still a good quick reference to have on hand.
Boston Terriers: A complete owner's manual........2000-11-16
This Boston Terrier book gives you some insight into the breed's origin and general characteristics but it does not get into true detail. Once you start to get further into the book they discuss general care, medical information, breeding, and training. This could have pertained to any breed of dog it was so general. Also there were not very many color pictures of this breed in the book. They did have some illustration type drawings of Boston's but it's not the same as color pictures of real dogs.
This book was okay but it really lacked the detailed information people need when thinking about purchasing this breed. They also needed to get more into the health issues that actually effect this particular breed. The health conditions that they mentioned are important but they needed to be more specific to the breed itself. When I finished the book I still needed and wanted to learn more. This book did not tell me any more than what I already knew about this breed. I think that they should take more time when making this type of book because except for the few pages that told about the breed history and origin you could have placed the name of any breed of dog in this book and you wouldn't have known the difference. In fact, I have the same book for the Doberman breed, same exact information different breed name.
This book is a must have for BT owners and lovers!.......2000-04-05
This is a well written, and very informative book that covers everything you need to know on how to care for Bostons! House Training, Chew Toys, Dog food, Obedience Training, Breeding...everything! The pictures alone make it worth buying. :)

The Official Book of Boston terriers.......2001-10-24
This is an excellant book for both the novice and experienced Boston Terrier fancier. The book defines the history and foundation stock of the breed with enough depth that a good understanding of the breeds development can be gained. Wonderful old photos of both Boston Terriers of days gone bye and their owners. In the contemporary section of the book we see a good cross section of the breed from both the US and around the world. Pedigrees, breed standards and grooming are all covered very well. The photo and text quality is supperb. Highly recommened to all lovers of BT's
Not what I needed........2001-07-06
Although this book has wonderful detailed history on the breed and many, many good colour photographs, it lacked detail in the care of and specific health problems of Boston Terriers. Health was covered in only 4 pages of 176 and these pages had photos on half of each page. I wanted a book as an ongoing reference as my puppy grows, what to feed him, when and how to train him myself; a book that I would continue to use beyond knowing the history of the breed.
AN EXCELLENT GUIDE TO THE BOSTON BULL.......2001-01-08
This excellent book is a comprehensive guide to the care and history of the Boston bull. The pictures are a delightful addition, showing the Boston in its natural glory.
I liked the part covering the history of this intelligent, hardy, high energy little dog. Champion Bostons are covered; their descendants are featured as well.
Special note has been made regarding the care of pregnant Bostons. More often than not, Bostons are delivered by C-section because their heads are too large for a natural delivery. Gentle suggestions are made to breeders and people who are interested in showing their Bostons.
This book is for everybody, from the serious breeder to the pet owner. It will delight anyone who has ever owned a Boston, owns one, will own one or who loves Bostons in general. Bostons are delightful little dogs.
A Wealth of Information!.......2000-07-04
Muriel P. Lee gives an excellent detailed history of the breed, from its beginnings in the late 19th century to the 1990's. This book contains hundreds of photographs of champion Bostons throughout the history. Additionally, the breed standards are described with some detail, as well as illustrations. The chapters on characteristics, showing, breeding and health deal specifically with Bostons. Information is provided on the Boston Terrier Club of America as well as regional breed clubs. It is an excellent reference for people who are looking for their first Boston as well as the experienced fancier!

Great Intro to Maps.......2007-05-31
"...a map is a picture of someplace from above. It's like flying over that spot in an airplane."
This book uses clear language and illustrations to introduce maps to young children. Starting from her bedroom, Lisa maps her and Penny's (her dog) world starting with the most familiar and moving out.
Concepts include using a key, mapping to scale and using a map to give directions.
Your children may be inspired to map their own world.
learn all about maps from a girl and her dog!.......2004-12-08
This book is a wonderful, colorful book that is very well written and is a great plot line.
Lisa's class at school is learning all about maps and how to use them. As a project Penny has to make a map of her own. Lisa maps out her world and the world of her dog Penny. Children are introduced to terms such as map title, key, symbols, compass rose and scale.
What did you like or not like about the book?
The pictures featuring the main character Lisa and her dog Penny are colorful and entertaining.
I would recommend this book to parents and teacher to share with children in grade 2-4. It's very useful tool in teaching basic geography.
Great Example of Simple Map-Making.......2003-08-22
This book follows the path of a dog and the maps made of her neighborhood. These maps are very simple and easy to follow. They are straight forward and amazingly uncluttered. The legends help to show why they are so important in map-making. This is a wonderful guide to introduce children to maps and also to use as an "template" for creating your own maps.
Book Description
LapDog Therapy explains how a dog becomes a therapy dog, what a therapy dog does, and what benefits a therapy dog offers to senior citizens in healthcare/retirement facilities.
Customer Reviews:
Micky's SO Inspiring!.......2005-09-29
It's a cute concept - to have a little Boston Terrior tell us all we need to know about pet therapy. Mickey is an engaging narrator and I enjoyed reading his story. But this book offers lots, lots more than entertainment. It lets you see from the ground up what it's like for a dog and his owner to train and work as a pet therapy team.
This book answers many questions I've had about pet therapy. What kind of dogs can do it? What does pet therapy involve? How do you and your dog train and qualify for being in such a program? Where can I find resources about pet therapy? How do the folks who have the pets visit benefit?
All these questions, and most of all the last, are answered in a very satisfying, accessible fashion. _Lapdog Therapy_ is very inspiring as it demonstrates with words, photographs and beautiful watercolours how Mickey and Winnie make a difference to the folks at a retirement community near their house. Therapy dogs are needed and loved for many reasons and in many ways by the older people pictured and described in this book. (I must note that I was very happy with the respectful way the folks in the retirement home were presented.)
At the end of the story, there are dozens of resources (most of which can be contacted by email).
Thank you, Mickey! My mastiffs can never do "lapdog therapy" (except maybe for the Jolly Green Giant), but I see they and I could qualify to do pet therapy.
Worthwhile & Entertaining Read.......2003-03-12
Canine author and therapy dog Mickey offers a furry-fresh perspective on animal-assisted activities in his book LapDog Therapy. An educational and entertaining read for anyone who is - or wants to be - involved in this rewarding world of human-animal interaction.
An added benefit for Canadian readers is the inclusion of Canadian contact information in the well laid-out reference section.

A Boston's World

Book Description
A tale for all ages. An inspirational new look at the third millennium, through the eyes of a remarkable Boston Terrier and the people who love him.
Boomerang shows us the power of love to heal and create miracles. His journey combines spiritual insight with stimulating exploration. You will learn how to experience... "seeing with your heart, what may be invisible to your eyes."
Through love all things are possible.
Born on a beautiful summer day
He arrived from a place far, far away
Boomerang was his chosen name
My life changed, never to be the same.
His heart was filled to the brim with love
He was indeed a miracle, sent from above
When he became sick, I cried inside
By some miracle, he survived the rough ride.
His life continued for awhile
Just his presence made me smile
The doctor said he could not stay
I adored him, continued to hope and pray.
In my heart, I knew he would not last
He was an angel, a gift from the past
More precious than diamonds, platinum or gold
Boomerang was a blessing, a miracle to behold.
When the time came to say good-bye
He departed Earth, but did not die
His soul still sends me unconditional love
Someday he'll return from that place up above.

Not Even 1 Star!.......2005-08-27
This book (what I could force myself to read) was terrible. I couldn't even get through two chapters. I was very disappointed as I love Boston Terrier books. I wasted my money on this one.
Boomerang-a fantasy odyssey.......2004-07-02
The book doesn't even deserve one star!
This book MIGHT be fine for children but adults are more realistic. I am serious, this book was so far out from reality it was hard to concentrate on reading it. THUMBS DOWN!
An Affirmation of the Eternal Existence of Life.......2004-01-06
Do Animals have souls? As an animal lover I could not conceive of a happy afterlife without the presence of all the wonderful animals that have been such a large part of my life. Their lives have been brief compared to mine, and it is the thought of being with them once again that is the only remedy for the grief that is felt at their loss. Arlene Millman's book about her beloved Boston Terrier, Boomerang, reaffirms the belief that animals do indeed have souls and that no life is truly lost, it is merely transformed. I highly recommend this book for all novice seekers of enlightenment, and as a source of solace for anyone who has ever lost a beloved companion, animal or human.
Whether by accident or by design, the author very effectively conveys the progression of Boomerang's awareness and understanding of the universe and of his purpose. In the first book of the trilogy, Boomerang's first life and puppy-hood, the writing is simple, as if written for a child to read. In the second part of the trilogy the writing matures along with Boomerang and his growing awareness. In the third part of the trilogy, the writing takes on a certain majesty, almost a poetic cadence, as Boomerang experiences true enlightenment. The author states that Boomerang is the author and she is merely the translator. The transition in writing style makes that statement believable.
Boomerang's mission is his message - the spreading of enlightenment through love and kindness. Both are contagious, infectious and eternal - pass them on. Pass on the book too, but make sure you get it back. It's a keeper!
A Charming Story.......2004-01-05
Arlene Millman has written a charming book that is truly a tribute to a beloved pet. It is a story I want to believe in and she very effectively makes a believer of me. This is a little book to "open anywhere" and receive an uplifting message all about unconditional love and kindness.
I only gave this book 3 stars because it left me wanting more substance - the book takes a very short time to read - and because it could have benefitted from better proof-reading - but I found it thoroughly enjoyable.

Book Description
The Boston Terrier And All About It - A Practical, Scientific, And Up To Date Guide To The Breeding Of The American Dog (A Vintage Dog Books Breed Classic) By Edward Axtell A VINTAGE DOG BOOKS CLASSIC REPRINT This excellent and important work on the Boston Terrier or "American Dog", was first published in Battle Creek U.S.A. in 1910. It is now both expensive and very hard to locate in its first edition. VINTAGE DOG BOOKS have republished it, using the original text and photographs, as part of their CLASSIC BREED BOOKS series. The author was proprietor of St. Botolph Kennels, member of The Boston Terrier Club of New York and a leading light in Boston Terrier circles of that era. The book consists of one hundred and fifty two pages plus twenty four pages of vintage photographs of famous dogs. Some fifteen comprehensive chapters deal with the Boston Terrier's origins from an English bull dog cross, through to its early breeding and management: The Boston Terrier. - The Boston Terrier Club and Official Standard. - Kenneling. - Hints on Breeding. - Rearing. - Breeding for Size. - Breeding for Good Disposition. - Breeding for a Vigorous Constitution. - Breeding for Colour and Markings. - Sales. - Boston Terrier Type and the Standard. - Picture Taking. - Conclusions. - Technical Terms Used in Relation to the Boston Terrier. Etc. This is fascinating read, and highly recommended for any Boston Terrier enthusiast or historian of the breed, which also contains much information that is still practical and useful today. Many of the earliest dog breed books, particularly those dating back to the 1900s and before, are now extremely scarce and increasingly expensive. VINTAGE DOG BOOKS are republishing these classic works in affordable, high quality, modern editions, using the original text and artwork.

Boston Bulls.......2007-09-17
This is a well written book that offers the history of the Boston bull, which is a hybrid breed. Bostons are the result of crossing old English bulldogs with small white terriers. A hardy, sturdy little dog, the Boston bull is intelligent and lively. Bostons are also excellent family pets.
This book provides clear, concise information not only about the breed, but about care and training. Breeders will be especially interested in the special care pregnant Bostons require. Bostons more often than not have to have Caesarian deliveries because the puppies have extremely large heads. This is a reader-friendly book that all will enjoy, from owners/breeders to those who just love the Boston bull.
Good Book for New Owners.......2007-06-30
This is a very good book filled with background information on the breed, breed characteristics, and training suggestions. It is not very long which actually makes the book very readable. The training methods are very good, as well. Because the book provides just enough information for the average Boston parent on the numerous topics that it covers, some owners looking for extremely in-depth and lengthy explanations might want to look elsewhere. Otherwise, most owners who want a well-trained pet and who also want to learn a little bit about the breed would be pleased with this book.
Customer Reviews:
Found this book showy and impractical.......2004-11-06
This book seemed to be more about the author and his acquaintances rather than about the dog itself. I was hoping there would be a lot more meat: sources other than the author's opining and the penchant towards show dogs. I was looking for a functional manual on living with, training and caring for a Boston. What I got instead was a testament to the breed and pictorials of various show dogs and what seemed to be the author's friend's dogs. This book was a fair treatment of the breed but not at all what I would recommend for a practical "owner's guide."
A wonderful reference..........2002-03-16
As a cat owner who is looking into getting one of these wonderful dogs, I have found the information in this book to be excellent - much above the rest (I think I own every book about Bostons). Not only does the book discuss how to pick out an appropriate Boston, it also discusses the good and bad characteristics of the Boston Terrier. I found the section on raising a puppy to be a wonderful resource, considering raising kittens is a much, much different experience. I would suggest this book to anyone who is considering adding a Boston Terrier to their family.
A New Owner's Guide to Boston Terriers.......2001-05-20
A very good book. It contained a lot of useful information, that I was unaware of. The time spent reading this book was well worth it, especially when you consider the time I saved by following the advise and tips it contains. I recommend it highly.
Delightful!.......2001-01-08
Bostons are alert, intelligent little dogs. This book gives an excellent overview of the history, care and training of Boston bulls. These hardy little dogs are known for their high level of energy.
The authors, to their credit include a section on the special care of pregnant Boston bulls. More often than not, Bostons have to have their puppies delivered by C-section because the puppies' heads are too large for the dog to have a natural delivery. Special attention has been given to this aspect of Boston bull care.
This book is worth having for people who own or love a Boston bull.
