Good introduction to basic training, but no new information.......2007-08-24
This book would be great for anyone considering a Siberian Husky, or a new dog owner as it contains basic dog care tips and an introduction to training techniques. I was looking for a book with some special hints for training huskies (as they can be difficult dogs to train) and was disappointed. Although the title is 'How to Train You Siberian Husky' a large amount of space in the book is dedicated to caring for your dog - not training.
I needed immediate help with my Husky........2005-08-31
I adopted a 4 month old Husky who was completely out of control. I was desperate to find help. This book contained the answers that I needed to control this pup. Thank you!
Train your Siberian the easy way..........2005-05-07
Training a Siberian Husky is quite a challenge considering the personality of a Siberian. They are playful, independent, and intelligent. You have to take these traits into consideration and go from there. Treats are about the only motivator I have found to get one moving and I don't mean the ones from the grocery store. Very smart, a Siberian will work if she wants to work or provided there is a benefit. If you own one or are thinking of getting one, please read this book. Siberian Huskies for Dummies is also a good choice as well. This book is very short with concise instructions. I think even a mature teenager could manage to train with this book.
How to Train Your Siberian Husky (Tr-105).......2004-01-05
I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to learn how to train their Sibe... Good sound info with heartfelt pictures. It will be one of my quick referral book when needed...

Siberian Huskies for Dummies.......2007-09-27
Siberian Huskies for Dummies is an awesome book, it was very helpful indeed. Its not just for dummies though which is even better. It is very helpful for those of us who need a few points in the right direction. It is very detailed and explains things well. The book has some beautiful colour photos too. It has been my bible over the last week or so. I highly recommend that potential husky owners, or even the old ones, buy this book...it will help you out greatly.
a must have!.......2007-07-05
This is a real must have for anyone who is thinking about buying a Siberian Husky. Without this book, a first time husky owner will be left in the dark as to how to train this delightfully stubborn, eternally inquisitive, boundlessly energetic and all around fabulous breed of dog!
Top notch despite the name........2007-06-08
I recommend this book to all of my new owners and especially anyone that adopts a rescued Siberian. The book is easy to read and well explained. Some Siberian books out there drag on about topics you don't need to know causing the owner to put the book down. New Siberian owners need to read the book from cover to cover; best done before they bring their dog home. You will be much better prepared for your little ball of fluff and cuteness. Hopefully being better prepared will dis wade perspective puppy owners who really won't get along with the breed after they loose the cute puppy phase.
Think before you buy. They are a 13-15 year project and they don't get easier.

Redwood Siberians
Siberian Huskies for Dummies Review.......2007-02-16
This was a good introductory book for new Husky owners who want to learn all about their temperament and how to care for them. Training techniques were very useful; although be advised that it takes time to train a puppy. We found out quickly that Siberians (as the book says) are very playful and have lots of energy. Tiring them out will ensure a good nights rest for parents.
Get this book first - and read others if you still have questions. One-on-one experience with your new Siberian is the most valuable training tool.
Learning about the Siberian .......2007-01-17
I have a young Siberian with 1/2 Golden Reteriver. After reading this book, I was able to understand, while in training classes, she was so good at tasks, but very stubborn on others - that is the Husky trait. The other traits, of affection, quickness, hardly any barking, less the doggy smell when she gets wet, the ability to be in tune with young children and and ability to play with dogs, still amazes me. She loves the outdoors, but enjoys inside as much. Because, she has high energy and requires at lot of walking, playing, etc.,every day, rain, snow, sleet (her favorites)it is such a joy to be with her. So just a reminder, this type of dog takes a lot of work - as the book states. Training, should start as soon as possible, it takes time, especially with a husky, who has a mind of its own makes a happier dog.

book was excellant, came quickly, and was in great condition.
Siberian Huskies (Barron's A Complete Pet Owner's Manual).......2000-10-28
Although relatively small (75 pages), this paperback covers a little bit of everything pertaining to Sibes. From breed standards to training to breeding. For it's price it covers a lot of ground but might not go into the detail one might expect from a larger book. However, for it's size and price I feel it is an excellent book worthy of purchase for any owner of the Siberian Husky.
Siberian Huskies : Everything About Purchase, Care, Nutritio.......2000-04-27
Exellent! Out of all the Siberian Husky books I have read, which is about 6, this one was the most helpful. I have a Husky of my own and if I could say something about this book is that it was so helpful! I recomend it for all want to be and all owners of Siberian Huskies!
A general guide to the Husky-a must for first time owners........1998-12-18
This small book could not have hoped to cover "Everything..." as it claims, but I have found it to be useful on many occasions. It provides a general guide to almost every conceivable situation and concern, providing the quality of advice a new owner needs. An owner of a new sibe puppy will want to supplement this book, so they should consult their breeder-use an established husky kennel, not a backyard breeder-other texts, and their vet. Other topics, like medical/health and diet, will likewise be covered in more detail in other places. Don't stop with this book but do get it if you are with sibe. And hang on to that leash!

Balto and the Great Race (Stepping Stone)

Book Description
Togo wasn't meant to be a sled dog. He was too feisty and independent to make a good team member, let alone a leader. But Togo is determined, and when his trainer, Leonhard Seppala, gives him a chance, he soon becomes one of the fastest sled dogs in history! His skills are put to the ultimate test, though, when Seppala and his team are called on to make the now-famous run across the frozen Arctic to deliver the serum that will save Alaska from a life-threatening outbreak of diphtheria.
In the style of Akiak, winner of the Irma S. and James H. Black Award for Excellence in Children's Literature, along with five state awards, Robert J. Blake's detailed, carefully researched oil paintings complete the story of the adventure that inspired the internationally famous Iditarod race.
Customer Reviews:
The Huskies & Malamutes Must Get Through!.......2006-12-06
Neither rain, nor sleet, nor snow nor gloom of night will keep this pack of hardy Arctic dogs from reaching their goal!
Togo was a beautiful male Siberian husky who was part of the team who got the serum through to Nome during the Diptheria Epidemic of 1925. His part and those of the other dogs were eclipsed by one famous husky named Balto who led the team during the last 53 miles. Togo had quite a track record. He won many dog sled races and from the time he was 8 months old, showed his independent streak by hopping fences and holding his own as a musher with larger huskies and malamutes.
A strong, hardy dog with a curly tail, Togo plays an important role in history. During the outbreak of diptheria in January of 1925, a desperate plea was sent to the Governor in Juneau, declaring an emergency. A train was loaded with the necessary serum, but snow precluded it from getting through. In those days airplanes had open cockpits. Planes did not fly to Alaska then because inclement weather precluded air lift as pilots could not survive exposure to the extreme cold. The only way for the medicine to get through to Nome was via dog sled.
Enter Togo. The hardy husky, together with his canine team mates and musher Leonhard Seppala brave atrocious weather conditions for some 350 miles to get the medicine to Nome. Togo led his team for several days with no rest until a second musher picked up where this team left off.
The illustrations are masterpieces as well as this wonderful book. It is an important part of early U.S./Alaskan history and will be treasured by all ages. Readers will feel the freezing Arctic air as those huskies and malamutes brave long distances to get the serum to Nome. The dog sled teams got the medicine there several days before the deadline date. If not for these dogs, the epidemic would have claimed many casualties. Togo has rightfully earned his honored place in history and will be treasured for time immemorial.
This book makes me think of the 1979 classic, "Ain't No Stopping Us Now." Be sure to read this with other books about Balto and the incredible race against time during the Diptheria Epidemic of 1925.
Touching.......2006-03-04
This is a wonderful true story about those who should should not be forgotten. "Togo" is a beautiful example of the blessings of sacrifice, love, devotion, and perseverence. Truely a story to touch your heart.
e-Iditarod.......2006-02-25
The book is beautiful. My son and I are following the Iditarod race electronically. In order to understand this race, we were looking into the original Great Serum Race and information about dog sledding. This is an eloquently told story based on facts that is fitting for an elementary student. The artwork is fantastic and helps pull you into the brutal winter conditions that is tied to the story.
A Wonderful Book!.......2005-10-23
This is visually beautiful book that tells a beautiful story. This is a story of courage and strength. Togo's story needs to be told. I even purchased a copy for my son's elementary school library.
Really good storytelling!.......2005-10-03
This book is thoroughly enjoyable and provides a well-told account of the amazing journey to provide life-saving vaccines. By only reasons for not giving it a full five stars were that I thought some of the illustrations might be a bit scary to younger children, and also I thought that the story ended rather abruptly -- it is good, but be prepared to answer youngsters questions such as "Did Togo get the people the medicine?" and "Why didn't Togo get to finish his race?" See also Big Enough Anna, by Pam Flowers, for a very different story that also involves sled dogs.

Book Description
It was one thing to demand vengeance after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii plunged the United States into World War II, it was quite another to have the wherewithal to carry the fight to the Axis powers' front door. The same two oceans that had previously protected the United States from foreign enemies now provided a like obstacle to projecting American military force in the other direction. Battleships, aircraft carriers and submarines could not do the job alone. It was up to the ordinary soldier to occupy and hold the enemy's real estate, and the Navy needed to commission vast numbers of transports to get them there.
The attack transport USS Charles Carroll was originally laid down to be a combi-liner, carrying passengers and cargo on the Gulf of Mexico trade routes. Most of her wartime crew had never seen the ocean let alone manned a vessel of her size or even handled the small boats that were the ship's main offensive weapon. Yet, together they would evolve into the fighting machine that earned six battle stars in the invasions of North Africa, Sicily, Salerno, Normandy, Southern France and Okinawa.
Lt. Robert W. Goldman, USNR (ret), joined the ship after Operation Torch and participated in her five subsequent invasions. I grew up listening to his stories, which, with the invasion maps, documents, photographs, issues of the Plan of the Day, etc. that he saved, form the backbone of this narrative. I have also met many of his old shipmates and have incorporated their recollections and, whenever possible, entries from the weathered diaries in which some of them set down their first-hand experiences, their fears while in combat and the capers they cut to blow off steam. As much as possible, the book evokes the feel of the times and the perspective of those who were there. The generals and heads of state set policy and strategy but it is the individuals in the field and on the seas who must translate the best laid plans into actions which spell victory or defeat. This is their story.

Faboo!.......1999-03-31
A must have for all serious Siberian Husky lovers
A must read for the serious Siberian Husky owner/fancier!.......1999-01-03
Michael Jennings has written this book in a way even the novice can understand. From Pet owner to the serious fanciers, it is full of information that you will want to have in your library. This second book in a series can compel even the pet owner to want to raise their loving Siberian and know all it's history.
From the beginnings to the present, each chapter has something for everyone. Being a serious fancier myself, I have found this book to be very informative, yet easy to read and understand.
Kudos to Michael for another well written book.
This is a great, great book about the Siberian Husky........1998-12-06
"The New Complete Siberian Husky," by Michael Jennings, is a must for all potential and current Sibe owners. It touches on a variety of subjects- history of the breed, the breed standard, famous husky kennels, as well as the care of the Siberian Husky, training, breeding, and all other vital subjects. Lots of photos, especially of past Siberians who were very valuable to the breed's beginnings. Many of these dogs can be traced on your own Siberian's pedigree. The book also contains the REAL story about Balto and Togo, quite a bit different than the movie...
A fine resource for all Sibe owners or those considering........1997-08-22
Heavy emphasis on background & breeders of Sibes
Each dog breed needs a similar book that fills the dog owner with
pride and convinces him(her) that they have selected the
quintessential dog to own. It also is valuable in pointing out some of
the unique problems of the animal i.e. wanderlust, digging,
behavioral quirks difficulty training as well as the endearing features
of the breed. Perhaps too much time is placed on the "begots". It
introduces you to the major "players" breeders of Sibes and has an
excellent chapter on the breed standards. The numerous photos are
somewhat repititious since all good Sibes are beautiful and it is hard
to see the subtlties in black and white when talking about copper
and other hues. Spins a great narrative about the "serum run" and
the legendary "Togo" which I have made into a children's story
which is loved by my grandchildren.

Wonderful Book.......2006-10-09
Wonderful Book, Great Photography, Quality Presentation and Appearance. Good Information, Unbiased and Covers Many Subjects of Concern or Intrests.
Good info + photos.......2004-09-01
A very good general background book for the Siberian Husky owner. This book has beautiful color photos. Shows various markings and colors of Huskies, describes in detail Breed Standard + Show expectations. Tells the history of this breed and explains why a Husky may not be the best dog for everyone. The Siberian Husky is a beautiful, intellegent + spirited dog. Reading this book, you can tell that it's author really loves them.
The Best Husky Book.......2004-02-28
I purchased a siberian husky 1 year ago and wanted to learn as much as I could about the breed. This book says it all. I have bought several other books, and basically they stink. This book is well written, has beautiful pictures and truely says how a husky is. If you are thinking of purchasing a husky or already own one, and want some help in understanding your dog - this book is for you. Cannot say enough about this book. If I could give it more than five stars I would.
you'll laugh when you realise they ALL bolt after squirrels.......2003-02-07
Describing the Siberian Husky as being too intelligent, clean, charming and clownish, and mentioning their strong need for company, their greatness in digging up your lawn, ignoring your calls, and loving children, dogs and burglars alike, makes me recognise my affectionate friend in every aspect of this great new book. It provides extensive background on the history of "the little Chukchi dogs", from the people that bred these dogs as an integral part of their lives to their appearance in Alaska sledding races. The book describes how a healthy husky should look, how to be groomed, showed and taken care of. The book also warns of treating huskies as "hairy, little people", instead of wolf-like, noble dogs with a sledding heritage that should rather be trained firmly. When you have always wanted to own a husky, or have purchased one already, the book is an enjoying read about wonderful husky moments, making you definitely laugh when you realise they ALL bolt after the squirrel across the road. It also provides a great guide for those considering purchasing a husky, describing all the needs of this beautiful dog breed. This book is all about understanding your (future) companion, and making them and yourself happiest!
Best Siberian Husky Book Ever!.......2003-01-07
This book is amazing; there are interesting facts about Siberian Husky history [did you know they were turned loose by the tribe that bred them and hunted freely in packs for part of the year?], anatomy [the 'stop', or angle where their snout joins their face, has to be at a precise degree so air can warm up and lungs will not be frostbitten when working in the snow], and tons of useful information for sibe novices and experts alike. I recommend this book ENTHUSIASTICALLY to anyone who owns or is thinking of owning a Siberian!

As coach of the Lady Huskies, UConns womens basketball team, for the past 19 seasons, Auriemma has led the Huskies to four national championships and was named national Coach of the Year five times. More importantly, 16 of his players have made the Deans List, and all of his teams have had a flawless graduation rate. The epitome of a coach, a mentor, and a leader, GENO tells the story of how one fiery man strove for excellenceand won the respect of his players and countless fans along the way.

Auriemma is a jerk, just the kind of jerk I would love to have my daughter play for........2007-08-06
Auriemma is a JERK. The best thing about this book is he tells you that he, CD (his associate head coach), all his assistant coaches and most of all his players know he is a JERK. But even more important, he cares about his players like a parent or that uncle who will always be there when you need them to be does. He doesn't coddle, he doesn't kiss up to good, or even great players. He does sometimes treat players differently, but only because every single one of his players is an individual, but he demands that they play not as individuals, but as a team. He gets the best out of his players because he demands the best out of them and even more so out of himself. He is insecure and cocky. Doubtful and arrogant. A smooth talker and someone who regularly eats shoe leather. He is a real person who I would love my daughter to play for some day if she ever got the chance.
Awesome!.......2006-03-19
It's rare these days -- I just couldn't stop reading. Auriemma's co-writer creates a style that makes Geno come across as a good guy who tries hard - a real rags to riches, Horatio Alger story.
As a basketball fan, I loved the glimpses into life at UConn and the stories beyond some legendary playeres. In particular, I liked Diana Taurasi's introduction and the brief mentions of her background and style. She's a fascinating person as well as a great player, adding charisma he way Lisa Leslie once did.
Geno tells the truth, too. After UConn, many players faced a letdown. I watched Taurasi play against Seattle next year, as a member of the Arizona team. She tried hard but was obviously frustrated being a top player on a mid-level team.
Ironically, there are many parallels between Taurasi and Chamique Holdsclaw, Tennessee's star, who would have graduated just before Taurasi went to UConn. Both began their WNBA careers as Number 1 draft picks on low-ranked teams. And both complained about being so famous. Tough, said both coaches.
I also liked Geno's report of recruiting,a coach's toughest job, he says.
A few times I flipped pages while Geno pontificated and philosophized. Most mostly I loved it...and despite a long and growing "To Do" list, I kept reading.
Spoken like a true Italian!.......2006-03-16
Luigi "Geno" Auriemma has written an extremely heartfelt biography chronicling his life experiences, especially the years he has been coaching UConn's womens basketball team. This is one of those biographies you don't want to miss out on!
Geno is a straight shooter and one heck of a honest man. His genuine display of his emotions and thoughts throughout the book are a testament to his character. His loyalty to his wife, family, colleagues, players and fans is incredible!
The stories behind how he recruited Diana Taurasi and others are very enjoyable to read, as are the countless other stories he recalls over the years. "Geno" is an excellent book for anyone to read - you don't need to be a huge sports enthusiast (although I reckon it might make a slight difference) as this is a story of an Italian boy from Norristown who made it big through his strong work ethics and values.
Molto Grazie, Geno! You rock!
If you're a fan, you'll love it!.......2006-03-16
The book is filled with anecdotes about his early life (the best chapter) and his years at UConn. Trials, tribulations, success and failures with various players, their families, etc. are the central theme. If you've followed the team in recent years or long term, you will appreciate this information. Fewer points, however, for writing style and continuity of subject. As a whole and as a fan, I enjoyed it!
Geno: In Pursuit of Perfection.......2006-03-06
This book is excellent for a sports minded person that is interested in womens basketball at the college level. I have personal connections with someone mentioned in the book so I might be a bit predjudiced.

I was looking for a book with details and specifics, but this was just a general overview. Lots of good pictures of dogs and puppies but not much detailed info.
From a new owners perspective.......2006-07-10
I have to say that as a new owner of a Siberian Huskey I found this publication to be an excellent reference book. Everything from diet, breed history, breed standard, illness's, common problems with Huskys is covered. If someone is looking for the book in the house, it will be referred to as "the husky bible" by whoever is looking for it, brilliant book glad I purchased it.
