Eating Frogs!.......2007-09-15
I learned of this book from a friend who has the older version of it. I glanced through her copy and noticed her notes. She said you have got to get this, it will organize your life. I purchased the 2nd edition version, read the book through, then reread it marking the tasks that I feel will help me find the missing hours in a day, so things get accomplished, instead of brushed under the rug. Sometimes it just seems to be amazing that it is end of the day, the week or even the month and it seems that nothing or not a whole lot seemed to be accomplished. I work in Direct Sales so it helps there also. It help me find the time to take care of the household, spend time with each family member and take care of their needs, and still be able to spend time with clients to be able to service them better allowing them to pass recommendations of me around. I also picked up his book Goals!, keeping them both close at hand so I can glance through and get that boost of energy again, with the "Yes I Can" attitude. "Eat That Frog", will get you out of procrastinating and working with goals, while "Goals!", will get you into setting goals, keeping them and accomplishing them, it is such a win-win!

"Last Friday...Was I Scared!--My Boss Almost Fired Me!".......2007-08-26
Do you procrastinate on important tasks? Do you wait until the last minute to do the most important of things both personally and on your job? If you are like 90% of all people, you have become prey to the monster of procrastination. Procrastination has nothing to do with laziness or lack of ambition, but has everything to do with the "fear of overwhelm". As humans, we can all become victims of overwhelm, but at last there is a solution. The absolute best book on "procrastination busting" I have ever read is Eat That Frog!: 21 Great Ways to Stop Procrastinating and Get More Done in Less Time by Brian Tracy. After reading and following the advice Mr. Tracy lays out in this remarkable book, you will have conquered procrastination forever! Yes, I said--forever!! Remember, unless you conquer procrastination you CANNOT succeed at anything. Buy this book, and say goodbye to procrastination for good.
Other great titles by Brian Tracy are:

Focal Point: A Proven System to Simplify Your Life, Double Your Productivity, and Achieve All Your Goals
Thank you, Mr. Tracy for helping us to rid ourselves of the demon of procrastination for good!
This book will change you! .......2007-08-22
I think of all of Brian Tracy's books-- this is my favorite.
I teach "day management" over time management. So our opinions differ a bit on this. Brian has you prioritize the things you must do each day-- eating the biggest ugliest frog first. This is two fold. It eliminates procrastination and dread. I tell clients to do the thing they dread the most first. Why spend the day dreading that awful phone call? Anxiety builds and so does the discomfort. We are saying the same thing different ways.
Where we differ is that because I teach sales and self promotion-- you can find any frog uglier than your marketing responsibilities. My clients create their marketing plan, with daily action items they commit to doing-- no matter the number of frogs out there.
The energy over the visual of eating a frog is so emotional, it sticks. That is what makes this such a great book. I use the language with my clients, and I'll often hail an accomplishment accredited to "I just sat down and ate the frog".
This book will change your attitude on procrastination. I didn't believe it, because although most people tell me I do more than anyone they know-- I can dig my heels in as stubbornly as another. But when I feel that wave coming on-- I just "eat the frog".

Front to Back.......2007-07-20
This book is excellent. It is about life in general and Kermit mixes enough humor that you don't want to put the book down. Buy Harry Potter and you will end up reading Kermit first!!
Kermit rocks!!.......2007-04-03
I don't usually read this kind of book, but I decided to pick up Kermit's masterpiece in motivation and I have not regretted doing so. This delightful book is all about ridiculous optimism. Yes, you heard me right -- ridiculous optimism.
Quoting Kermit: If this book can drive you - and those around you - crazy with ridiculous optimism, then it has done its job. Who knows, maybe by reading these lessons from my life, you'll be inspired to drop your tail, leave your swamp, and set out on a journey that's just as amazing and wonderful as mine.
'Before You Leap' carries two parts. Part 1 is about his life: life of having over 2,353 family members; how he grew up from a little tadpole, then attending school, and then getting his legs; his search for significance and fame; how he got into showbiz and thereafter forming his own team of superstar performers; and his exciting relationship with the amorous Miss Piggy. Part 1 is rather hilarious.
Part 2 gets on to the more serious stuff for its readers. It's now lessons for your life and carries 14 croak-licious chapters. Serious though it may be, it still contains oodles of humor. Kermit interviewed his muppet gang on issues like money, strategies for work, strategies for school, exploring why bad things happen to everyone even to good frogs, and many more. There are lots of Kermit-tips too.
Are you ready for such an experience, an experience of ridiculous optimism? If you are, you so must read this book. Do it with an open mind and an open heart.
And if all of these are not enough, the photos of Kermit and gang will make your day. He is indeed a frog of many expressions. The pictures are simply marvelous and each one truly inspires me. He's close to being a perfect model and so are his muppet buddies!
The Best Book That I Have Read In My Entire Life.......2007-02-13
If you are a muppet lover or don't even know who the heck they are you should still read this book. It is a great advice giving book. It also comes with the hilarity that comes naturally from the muppets. It shares all the great life leesons that come to us in no other way. The muppets make everything more interesting. You should definently put this book on your reading list!
Love you always Kermit!.......2007-01-12
My gf who was divorced last year and a couple of weeks from a tummy tuck rec'd this book from me as a bday gift. I am happy to say it was the only thing she read over her recovery period and she loved it.
Top-Notch For Teens.......2007-01-05
Yes, I said teens, and adults, too! This is NOT a children's book, and the wisdom and tips herein are priceless. We are the people who grew up with Kermit, who trust him, love him, and patiently wait for him to either dump the pig or marry her.
The photos are superlative, the sagest bits are given in very funny "sketches," and the author himself is so endearing.
BUY IT! You won't be sorry.
Book Description
In the tradition of Who Moved My Cheese? here is a parable about change, overcoming obstacles, and making a leap of faith.
This simple, inspirational tale follows the journey of Ping, a frog in search of a new pond, preferably one good for long-distance jumping. Along the way he meets Owl, an insightful teacher who shares his wisdom, encouraging Ping to take an inner journey before pursuing his goal. Not everything goes as planned, but Ping learns how to "go with the flow, because the flow knows where to go."
Ping represents everybody who has encountered a setback, needs to take a risk, or is struggling with the challenges of change-that is to say, he is all of us. Owl is the mentor who helps him find meaning and leap to new heights. The adventure they embark on together is both engaging and revealing.

Deceptively Simple Life Lesson.......2006-10-22
From the outset, readers might think that this is a book for children. In actuality, this is a new-age book about Ping, and Ping being metaphoric about every and each of us that is seeking for meaning of life. Some of us are perfectly contented with the way they are and they are happy enough pottering around the well. However, there are some of us that are curious about what's beyond the well and they would go searching. Naturally, there are times when we aren't able to see beyond the woods and there are times when we are just about to give in and give out because to get to our destinations can prove difficult and almost impossible. Then, someone comes along (in this instance, in the form of an ageing but wise Owl) who would give us inspiration and dispense with anecdotes about life which subsequently strengthen our resolve to keep on going when the going gets tough. For many of us that believe in good-ending, this book brings us back to reality. Just when we think that everything is looking up, everything go pear-shaped. That's when we are at the cross-road (not at the cliff) deciding if we shall continue going or turning back. The book ends open-endedly and it's entirely up to you to decide what you wish to do with your own lives. I applaud the author for being courageous in doing so rather than being condescending, in preaching the readers to do what he deems is the right thing to do. On the contrary, he empowers the readers to actualise their actions which they see fit. Highly recommended and truly inspirational!
Deep, easy and inspiring.......2006-09-07
The person who rated this book with two stars is the perfect example of someone in need of reading more books such as this one. Learn to relax, open your mind, and enjoy. Put your red pen down while reading this book, because it's not needed. The book was very well written and very smooth in vocabulary choice. As a teacher, I would find it easy to use as a read-aloud in a high school classroom. It was very uplifting and inspirational, while still making me think and reflect on my life. Amazon customer for four years and never felt moved enough to write a review until now!
I loved reading Ping.......2006-04-06
I loved reading Ping, it made me laugh and think and it made me realize how to advise my employees on the importance of accepting risk and dealing with change. This book is especially rich in wisdom and insight for graduates, supervisors, managers and executives and can help create a more supportive workplace. As a Christian, I came away with many insights that I had not realized before. The story of how Ping is mentored by a wise owl is an upliifting one, owl's teachings like those of Jesus, Moses, Mohammed and other prophets and spiritual leaders is an invitation for us all to become living examples for others to follow. This is a small book with a huge message that I invite all to discover.
Ping moved the cheese........2006-03-27
Ping is an amusing and enlightening story that reveals profound truths about how to deal with change in your work and in your life In this simple parable Ping is a frog in search of a new pond who confronts his "stuckness," and overcomes his fear by discovering and welcoming the power of change. The lesson from this witty and endearing read is that change is ultimately about taking action and control of our own destiny. It is something that we all have the power to do. The question is, "Will
we?" The story of Ping is a tale of empowerment. That empowerment is a gift we can give to our selves, not something that is bestowed by others. At 90 pages this book is a life manual that should be part of every curriculum. As a business enhancement it is inspiring. If you are in management of a company that goes through changes, you need not only to read this, but give it to your employees too.
HOPEFUL HOPPER.......2006-03-03
I loved this book for it's postive motovational message and lessons that one can apply to their career and life. The story follows a frog named Ping who is forced to find a new pond when the one that has offered him security for so long has dried up. The journey he takes is inspirational and teaches us that despite great obsticales our goals are always within reach if we would learn to reach within. Like Who Moved My Cheese, Ping is a book that will be enjoyed by recent graduates and seasoned business professionals.

Customer Reviews:
Fascinating.......2006-07-07
This is a valuable resource for a child, teen or possibly a frog-delighting adult:) I was impressed with its clear format, language and the clever puzzle type model of the make-up of a frog. It says on the front from age 8 up but my 4 and 7 year old devour it greedily and have absorbed much (gruesome) fact on these creatures. Highly recommended from a biological and anatomical point of view.

Best Youth and Family Ministry Book.......2005-11-21
This has got to be the BEST Youth and Family ministry book that I've ever read. It touches on EVERYTHING that the other books don't. There are way too many books that focus on just one age group or just the leaders and youth to make a point. This book speaks of how everybody is needed in faith formation and how those little things like simple smile, handshake, or hello can help a person "come to faith."
The metaphor may seem cheesy at times, but it is very apt. While books like Doug Field's "Purpose Driven Youth Ministry" are good books, they don't touch on how everybody is involved in faith formation. They talk about programs and certain aspects of the ministry that still give congregations problems.
While there's no "one solution" to ministry as it differs from place to place, FROGS WITHOUT LEGS certainly opens one's eyes - it's a great tool, and a great read for anybody interested in youth and family ministry. It brings lots of issues to light.
A Crazy Title - but Solid, Challenging Content.......2005-02-25
Anderson and Hill came up with a crazy title and a valiant attempt extending a metaphor for how faith is formed in the lives of young people. But, beyond the "frog without legs" metaphor is a very readable book of solid material based on scripture, research, and experience that invites a cultural shift in how youth ministry is traditionally understood and practiced.
I strongly recommend this book for anyone who has interest in Christian ministry with families, children, youth, young adults or couples. The holistic, integrative perspective presents a healthy, sound course for more effective ministry...or rather, for endeavoring to form a true Christian community of nurture that is assimilated into daily life.
Although it is still popular to speak of "Youth and Family Ministry" as a combined effort in local congregations, Frogs Without Legs... is one of the best volumes that fills out what that phrase actually might mean in practice. This is a great book for groups, parents, or ministry teams to read and discuss together.
Book Description
Frog in the Well is a vivid and revealing account of Watanabe Kazan, one of the most important intellectuals of the late Tokugawa period. From his impoverished upbringing to his tragic suicide in exile, Kazan's life and work reflected a turbulent period in Japan's history. He was a famous artist, a Confucian scholar, a student of Western culture, a samurai, and a critic of the shogunate who, nevertheless, felt compelled to kill himself for fear that he had caused his lord anxiety.
During this period, a typical Japanese scholar or artist refused to acknowledge the outside world, much like a "frog in the well that knows nothing of the ocean," but Kazan actively sought out Western learning. He appreciated European civilization and bought every scrap of European art that was available in Japan. He became a painter to help his family out of poverty and, by employing the artistic techniques of the West, achieved great success with his realistic and stylistically advanced portraits.
Although he remained a nationalist committed to the old ways, Kazan called on the shogunate to learn from the West or risk disaster. He strove to improve the agricultural and economic conditions of his province and reinforce its defenses, but his criticisms and warnings about possible coastal invasions ultimately led to his arrest and exile.
Frog in the Well is the first full-length biography of Kazan in English, and, in telling his life's story, renowned scholar Donald Keene paints a fascinating portrait of the social and intellectual milieus of the late Tokugawa period. Richly illustrated with Kazan's paintings, many in color, Frog in the Well illuminates a life that is emblematic of the cultural crises affecting Japan in the years before revolution.

Book Description
A practical and inspirational guide for helping the girls of today become the economically empowered women of tomorrow -- featuring a foreword by Gloria Steinem.
For Parents, teachers and anyone eager to help girls avoid the traditional paths that lead to economic dependence on men, Joline Godfrey has created No More Frogs to Kiss, the essential handbook for arming the next generation of women with the knowledge and experience they need to ensure their economic independence.
The guide contains 99 entertaining "action plans" to teach girls how to become financially empowered. They will learn to find deals in the marketplace, use business vocabulary intelligently, start a small home business more profitable (and fun) than baby-sitting and develop the habit of saving for the future. Accompanying each activity are provocative statistics about women and money, as well as stories of girls and women who have succeeded in their own business ventures. Also included is a resource section that provides suggestions for further reading, a directory of organizations and a glossary of business terms.
"At last! A book of practical, simple and enjoyable activities that will give the girls and young women in your life the opportunity to learn that business is both fun and profitable." -- Alice Ball, President, Girls Incorporated

No More Frogs to Kiss: 99 ways to Give Economic Power to.......2000-02-05
This book is an easy and quick read and has some excellent suggestions that you can start implementing right away. My daughter had just returned from a concert and we sat down and talked about all the ways the concert helped the local community, ranging from people flying in to attend the concert, staying at a hotel as well as restaurants. Gives allot of good ideas to start implementing right away with your child.
Now teenage girls can learn about making money.......1998-06-16
Growing out of her studies of women entrepreneurs, Ms. Godfrey formed the group An Income of Her Own. The educational foundation is designed to level the playing field, by providing teenage girls with the same opportunities that teenage boys traditionally enjoy: namely, to learn at a young age how money is made. This book is full of hands-on ideas for educating girls in business on a local level. END

A plum tree in bloom.......2007-04-04
Recommended to me by a school librarian, this book was a sweet delight which I read to my child thinking to encourage her to enjoy poetry. We both enjoyed this book and its wonderful illustrations of Japanese life, learning about the sad life of Issa and what is behind some of his poems, especially as haiku are not as simple as they appear on the surface. While the story may be a bit intense for very young children, the book accomplishes its intention of providing an interesting and eye-catching introduction to haiku and the sensitivity to feeling and experience that helps create the art of poetry. It also carries an underlying message of how one can not only persevere through mistreatment and adversity but keep a caring and uplifted spirit. LOVED the author's informational notes at the end.

Haikus great but story of Issa not so good.......2006-11-18
The haikus in this book are excellent. They match beautifully with the illustrations. What a great way to introduce haiku to a young person (and an older person!)
My only disappointment is the interspersing of Issa's life into the work. It would have been better to have it as an author note at the end. The "story" part of Issa, I think, makes it difficult to give this as a gift or to share with children unless you are prepared to start addressing fears of mommy dieing when you (child) are three, having a mean stepmother that yells at you, etc.
Can we name Favorites? This must be in THE TOP TEN Books of HAIKU* ! .......2006-03-08
Kazuko Stone's watercolors accompany Matthew Gollub's with great style, and his text always pleases. Do you feel a childlieke innocence in the verses of ISSA? His mother died when he was three and perhaps his sadness is reflected in this verse:
"The new Year's first dream -- I see my village and wake to a chilly tear."
Four years later he had a step-mother who brought dissention to the household so that the father finally took the boy to a path leading to Edo (now Tokyo) when he was 17 years old.
Every person should experience during Lent some humor. This leads to the conviction that the writing of HAIKU is an appropriate theme for a Lenten retreat. These are obviously different but the interior of our hearts is where a sharing of philosophies can begin.
We should also experince during the Lenten Season thoughtful meditation aand a caring exchange, "TO CATCH ONE MEANINGFUL MOMENT IN TIME" - a quote from the author is something we should all try to achieve.
Reviewer mcHAIKU has a neighbor in the Indiana woods who titled her book "Swimming with Frogs" (isbn: # 0253217563) You will greatly enjoy her tribute to Nature in Brown County, and find a true urge to write HAIKU down in these hills. And a verse of Issa's will amuse you with his humorous explanation as to why people shouldn't come near melons!
Didn't Spend my Money.......2005-04-09
Based on what I saw about this book it seems the "editors?" "Authors?" of this children's book were hybridizing the engenious works of Issa for their own gain.
Not that it was conscious but I was searching for a SERIOUS collection of the works of Issa.
Yuck.
Cool Melons - Turn to Frogs!.......2001-07-31
This is an excellent account of Issa's life and poetry. This story goes through important stages of Issa's life and incorporates his poetry into the stages. This unique book explains how Issa succeeds as a poet even though he endures difficulties in his life. Children of all ages will enjoy the story and beautiful illustrations. I think the author and illustrator did a great job of working together to create a fine story abour this Japanese haiku writter. The best part of this book is the poems. The poems are written in English and also in Japanese. This book will capture your interest.
