Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

5 out of 5 stars Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

5 out of 5 stars Very Interesting.......2007-03-07

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

There's the Scottish Terrier ("an earth dog used in hunting the fox and the brocke"), the Boston Terrier ("a lively, highly intelligent, smooth coated, short-headed, compactly built, short- tailed, well balanced dog"), or the Great Dane ("one of the most elegant and distinguished varieties of giant-type dog"). In fact, there are 146 AKC-recognized breeds profiled within the pages of the Complete Dog Book, and the pictures and text provide great bowser browsing. The breed descriptions help you choose among the hounds, terriers, toys, and working breeds, the herders, guard dogs, and sporting breeds. Measurements help determine which dogs will best fit your abode (Chesapeake Bay Retrievers measure 21 to 26 inches high at the shoulder, Chinese Cresteds are a mere 11 to 13 inches off the ground, while the Irish Wolfhound stands 30 to 32 inches tall), breed temperaments help you choose your ideal pet, and show criteria help you know what you're looking for when you actually start to shop for a pup. In the meantime, there are interesting stories about breed origins, and a useful glossary of dog terms, while the chapters on grooming, training, and Canine Health and First Aid will come in handy once you've brought your new dog home. --Stephanie Gold

5 out of 5 stars for serious dog professionals or amateurs wanting more.......2007-05-15

A good and complete dog reference. Pet owners will love a cruise through all the potential breeds to love and those seriously taking in dog shows will enjoy a complete reference.

5 out of 5 stars AKC bible.......2007-03-29

This is the official publication of The American Kennel Club(AKC)so it stands to reason that it is quite elaborate and authorative; afterall, this is the 20th edition. If you want specific information about all the different breeds than this book is for you. Naturally the book only recognizes the breeds that are AKC and believe me, there are many others out there but yet to be officially recognized. For breeders, the information is valuable as all the official chacteristics and faults are mentioned for each part of the body. For general pets of a specific breed, and not show dogs the information is equally as valuable . For prospective buyers of a specific breed this book will help you to make sure the dog you get get doesn't have any serious faults of the breed characteristics. Overall this book is quite useful for anyone who owns a dog . Dog lovers will enjoy the book for general browsing to learn all about the other breeds. This is a great reference tool to have when viewing the different dog shows. I found the historical information rather fascinating. It is fun to learn about the different breeds since many are rarely seen in the general population. If you love dogs you will love this book.

5 out of 5 stars A Pet Groomers Must-Have.......2007-01-27

The AKC Complete Dog Book has been the singlemost valuable reference that I have used in 36 years of pet grooming. It has provided a solid foundation of how each breed is supposed to look, as well as the breed standard on which that appearance is based. It is the first book I reach for when learning or teaching grooming of a new breed. It also serves as a way to show pet owners an example of how their breed is presented on which we can base modifications for their individual pet. I would not groom without this book!

3 out of 5 stars New cover, (almost) same contents........2007-01-25

Don't get me wrong, this book has ALOT of in-depth information about your favorite AKC breeds, but they could have atleast changed the pictures of the breeds through the book....they left the same ones they have been using forever (most everyone I could see) the only difference between this book and the previous edition is the addition of a few breeds recently accepted and different color pictures of the breeds in the special pages in the middle of the book. It's a good book, I'm not sorry that I bought it, but come on....be a little more diverse if you are going to print another adition...get creative!

5 out of 5 stars The Complete Dog Book:20th Edition.......2007-01-16

5 out of 5 stars Great read.......2007-06-08

Owning Sibs and other breeds over the years I laughed till I had tears reading about Caesar. What a great read. Not that I recommend it for the bathroom reading but that is the only place my hubby will read. I walked past the door one day and he was laughing hysterically. I just knocked on the dog and asked "Caesar?" He replied "Lived that one before!"
After having lived with so many characters over the years it is easy to see that they really are true stories. If you have a dog lover in your life this should be in their stocking.

Reading this book, My Life in Dog Years was an OK book. You read all the different dogs' stories. What every dog's personality is, and what the dog does with him. Some stories are very interesting. It is an easy book to read. If you like reading about dogs, this book has all kinds of good stories.

4 out of 5 stars A great book!.......2007-03-27

My Life in Dog Years, written by Gary Paulsen was one of the funniest books I've read in a long time. Gary Paulsen has an extremely different way of writing from other authors. I have read a couple of his other books. This was probably not his best, but it was well written. I would highly recommend it for any dog lover.

This is a darling book! I can't resist a children's book with a pug and this one perfectly portrays a pug's personality.

5 out of 5 stars Hilarious!.......2007-07-05

My daughter loves dogs and the pictures are realistic paintings that are beautiful. Another plus about this book is that it is amusing enough for me that I can read it over and over again when my daughter insists. It is hilarious to adults who love dog breeds because the poems are spot-on with breed characteristics.

4 out of 5 stars doggy goodness.......2007-04-29

I have some issues with this book, primarily the lack of strong color -- but the overall effect is wonderful and the poems are charming. The author really understands the huge and complex doggy mind.

This is one of the best children's books to come out in a long time. I gave them as gifts to several people - some adults - and they all loved them. Both the author and the illustrator know dogs & what they would say if they could!

Product Description

William H. Armstrong. A landmark in children's literature, winner of the 1970 Newbery Medal and the basis of an acclaimed film, Sounder traces the keen sorrow and the abiding faith of a poor African-American boy in the 19th-century South.

Amazon.com

Sounder is no beauty. But as a coon dog, this loyal mongrel with his cavernous bark is unmatched. When the African American sharecropper who has raised Sounder from a pup is hauled off to jail for stealing a hog, his family must suffer their humiliation and crushing loss with no recourse. To make matters worse, in the fracas, Sounder is shot and disappears. The eventual return of a tattered and emaciated Sounder doesn't change the fact that the sharecropper's oldest son is forced to take on man's work to help support the family. His transition to adulthood is paved by the rocks and taunts hurled at him by convicts and guards as he searches for his father. But along this rough road he ultimately finds salvation as well.

William H. Armstrong's Newbery Award-winning novel quickly became a classic as a moving portrayal of resilience and hope in the face of profound human tragedy. Decades later, the bittersweet story still rings true, as strong-spirited individuals continue to battle the evil of prejudice. (Ages 9 to 12) --Emilie Coulter

Sounder was not a good book. William Armstrong did not explain anything clearly. For example, nobody had names except for the dog. They were instead called the " The Man" or "The Mother." Also, everyone in the book was gloomy and sad and there was nothing good ever happening in the book. Another reason I didn't like this book was because the characters had no reaction. When something big would happen in the book they would just move on with life.
This story is about a poor boy and his family. His father is a sharecropper who struggles to feed his family. Every night the boys father and their great coon dog hunting but they've been getting nothing lately. One day, amazingly, there is a ham roasting on the stove. That day the boy's father is taken to jail and sounder goes missing. Soon enough the father is taken to jail and Sounder is still missing.
If you want to find out why sounder went away you have to read the book. Though I didn't like this book you might. If you love gloomy and sad books this is just for you.

1 out of 5 stars Souder Stinks.......2007-04-12

Sounder for me was a very disappointing and depressing book. It was not very descriptive, but it was very sad. For example, a part of the book is "The piece of iron lay on the inside of the fence. Drops of blood from his fingers dripped down the fence, wire by wire." You need to be in the mood for a sad story in order to read this book.

The people don't show any emotions. If anything bad happens, they don't try to fix it. If something good happens, which is rare, they act like they couldn't care less.

[...]
[...]
[...]

The whole thing was very tragic and had an abrupt ending that had people wanting to know more, like about what happens to the boy when he grows up. The whole story was a fiasco and I would urge you to avoid reading this book.

5 out of 5 stars Perseverance in Difficult Times.......2007-04-02

Sometimes, we strive to achieve our goals and reach a point where exhaustion and opposition overwhelm us. We feel too tired to go on. However, if our want to succeed and gain pushes us onward, we persevere. Perseverance eventually brings success. In Sounder, by William H. Armstrong, each character reaches a point of despair and depletion. By showing perseverance, the characters, sooner or later, get through their situation successfully.
As a hard worker in the time subsequent to slavery, the boy in Sounder endured a lonely, fearful, and stressful life. He had to persevere because his family needed money. Their source of meat was scarce, and the boy's family lacked money to buy meat or anything else.
The father, therefore, stole a ham, for he had no other way to feed his family. A sheriff arrested the boy's father and shot his dog, Sounder, to prevent trouble. The shot wounded the dog so badly that he could no longer bark in the way that gave him his name.
Sounder was named after his unusual, sweet bark. It seemed to stretch out and roll in just the right way so that a listener would think someone was singing.
Now the boy had to fend for himself, his mother, younger siblings, and half-dead dog by working in the field and doing chores for white people to gain money.
The boy's father did not come home for a long time, so the boy went after him. After each search, the boy returned unsuccessful but endured and kept on.
The boy journeyed long and far to the prison farms, the jailhouse, and rock quarries to see his father, but he did not find him. Whenever he passed a white person's house, he thought he could feel their eyes staring at him through the curtains. Once, a white man threw a piece of iron at him. This was a blessing, though, because when the boy went to the schoolhouse to wash the cut the iron had caused, he met the schoolteacher who eventually taught him to read.
By the time the father finally returned, the boy was reading and had supported the family pretty well. The father had changed, however. His body had been damaged. He and Sounder had been hurt by the affects of slavery: racism and a system to keep blacks ignorant, poor, and dependant. However, their spirits of perseverance were not destroyed and the boy had hope of a better future because of his perseverance and education.
Through each of William H. Armstrong's characters, we can easily see that perseverance helps us overcome hardships. With perseverance, we can get past our limits into the world beyond.

5 out of 5 stars a mut of a dog.......2007-03-30

I think this book is a good book for the type of person that has an interest in "tear jerker" stories. It is the perfect snow daybook. The way the author writes makes you feel as if you are really there. He uses great imagery and descriptive words. Personally I am a little bit old for this book but it is still is a great story. It has an easy plot to follow and a great story line. This is the kind that you need to really read in between the lines. If you do not understand a sentence read it over and over and over again until you do! The reason is, is because one thing can throw you off! This is an awesome book and I am a big fan of this author. This is a book that teaches you great morals, but I am not going to tell you them! If you want to know what the morals are you will have to read to find out!

5 out of 5 stars Good Dog Mystery-much better than average.......2007-07-27

As the first in a new series, this is very good and very interesting. It is very similar to Virginia Lanier's Bloodhound series. The same type of main character although this takes place in the Smokey Mountains rather than Georgia. This isn't a bad thing since Lanier's books were probably the best in the genre. Like Lanier, the characterization takes second place to the mystery, which I happen to enjoy. Bad mysteries and not enough characterization as in Susan Conant's dog mysteries are too boring.

5 out of 5 stars A great new series!.......2007-06-05

Ms. Ball will grab your attention with the first line of the book, and you won't be able to put it down til you have finished the last page. This is the 1st of a great new series. How can we not love a book with such a wonderful dog featured.

5 out of 5 stars Solid.......2007-05-12

A solid mystery with good characters, good pacing, interesting backstory (more revealed in next book) a likeable protagonist and wonderful overlay of information about search and rescue dogs.

3 out of 5 stars Its a......DOG COZY!!!.......2007-03-20

Travelling outside my regular crime series is always interesting. With this book, Donna Ball's first "Raine Stockton Dog Mystery", I am amazed to find that there is a already a full-blown sub-genre of crime fiction in existence: dog cozies. Donna Ball has apparently written near one hundred other books as well under pseudonyms. It shows. She obviously knows and loves her hounds also and the reader can't help but be drawn in. Her protagonist, Raine, is a dog trainer who is lured back into search and rescue work out of a sense of duty to her community and a missing child. Her reticence is tangible as she battles with doubts about her latest canine companion, Cisco, a golden retriever.

The reader is presented with a carefully thought out set of characters and Ball really does well with establishing her setting, a small community in the Smoky Mountains. She obviously also loves them mountains, because her descriptions have you feeling the mountain air and picturing the colours. The tension she sets up around her feelings for her heroic Cassidy, dead in action and her replacement dog, Cisco - a gift from her sometimes ex-husband Buck - is quite remarkable, I really felt for her. I enjoyed learning about the role dogs and their handlers play in search and rescue and also the different roles they play ie. Raine and her dog do search and rescue, Cisco is NOT a cadaver dog (thankyouverymuch)!

I devoured this book and immediately picked up her next, "Rapid Fire" and will be looking out for "Gun Shy". The three star rating just reflects small imperfections: some of the characterization is a little stock standard (such as Maude, her British 'lady companion') and the writing is a little 'lumpy' ie. it doesn't always flow. However, I believe Ball is really onto a winner for this series, in this genre. Dog lovers are an assured audience, and crime lovers will also wander across it as I did in the never ending quest for 'something to read'. My preference is more hard-boiled (again reflected in my rating), but Ball's work will do very nicely thankyou in the meantime.

5 out of 5 stars A Good Find.......2007-07-11

If you love dogs and very few people don't, this new series by Donna Ball is a treat. In this the second book in the series, Raine Stockton is still employed as a part time "consultant" and search and rescue officer with the Forest Service. Her own kennel business, Dog Daze Boarding and Training Facility is doing well and her free time is spent at various dog competition events. Her life is disrupted when her almost ex- husband, Deputy Sheriff Buck Lawson, visits her home with the FBI.

Raine's old college boyfriend, Andy Fontana, is wanted by the FBI as a known terrorist and has been on the run for 10 years fleeing from a bombing charge. The FBI insists he's back in the area and they suspect that he's trying to retrieve a huge cache of diamonds that he once hid in the vast forest area surrounding Raine's house. They also feel that Andy is responsible for the recent eco terrorist crime spree and the murder of a Mexican construction worker who was working for the construction company hired to clear part of the forest for a huge resort.

Raine is loyal to her memories of Andy being a good man, and she firmly believes in his innocence no matter what Buck and the FBI tell her about his criminal history. In order to prove his innocense she must (with the help of her golden retriever, Cisco) find the real killer in order to help the man she once loved. Her determination causes a rift between her and Buck, and the FBI begins to suspect she is helping Andy.

This is a great Donna Ball mystery. Anyone who loves dogs, wonderful descriptions of the Great Smokie Mts., an interesting plot and well developed characters will enjoy Rapid Fire. Raine and Buck are people you will want to continue reading about and I'm eagerly waiting for the next title in the series.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Tale of Tails.......2007-02-28

If you like dogs and mysteries, you will love this book by Donna Ball. I delighted in every page. I enjoyed the setting. The Smokey Mountains are one of my favorite places on earth. The author knows her subject matter. I enjoyed the parts about the dog show. I also enjoyed her descriptions of the "manhunt." I recall several years ago visiting the mountains when a well known national fugitive was hiding out there. G men were all over the place. Her story line was very believable.
Thank you for an entertaining evening!

5 out of 5 stars DogLovers Delight.......2007-01-17

Great new author for dog lovers with a little dog training thrown in for good measure. The backdrop of the Great Smokie Mtn's is an added bonus.
A quick delightful read. Those who like the Lanier bloodhound books and the Susan Conant Mal books will enjoy the Goldens!!

4 out of 5 stars First of Donna Ball mysteries.......2007-01-07

Raine Stockton is employed (part-time) with the Forest Service and has her own kennel business, Dog Daze Boarding and Training Facility. Business is booming and her free time is spoken for when her 'on-again, off-again' husband, Deputy Sheriff Buck Lawson, arrives at her home with a big problem, and accompanied by the FBI.

Raine's old boyfriend, Andy Fontana, has been on the run from a ten-year-old bombing charge, and it seems he's back in the area. It's suspected that he's trying to retrieve a huge cache of diamonds hidden in the wilderness. Andy may also be responsible for a recent crime spree in the area.

Raine believes in Andy's innocence but must (with the help of her golden retriever, Cisco) find the killer in order to help the man she once loved.

This is the first Donna Ball mystery I've read and I enjoyed it tremendously. Anyone who likes dogs, the outdoors, a good solid plot, interesting characters and a fast-paced plot will enjoy Rapid Fire. I'm waiting for her next title and will check out her other novels.

Armchair Interviews says: A highly satisfying and fun read.

5 out of 5 stars All of it was Good.......2007-05-31

I loved every single part of this book. I loved to look at the pictures of dog breeds, and try to see what my beagle mix is mixed WITH. After I looked through it, I read about how train your dog, and all that information. people think that part is boring. They are just like 3 year-olds, never looking at the words of a picture book, just looking at the pictures. I loved it. I keep on checking it out the the library! I check it out so much, my mom gets frustrated when I do check it out anymore!

5 out of 5 stars GREAT book for a young dog lover!.......2007-02-09

My five year old is a huge dog fan. I wanted to find a book for her that really fit with her interests and her level. This book really fit the bill. It has fantastic photos of real dogs, shows where the dogs' origins are from, and gives average size along with a small graphic that shows the dog size in comparison to an adult. The index is easy to read so my five year old can look up a certain dog in the index and easily find it. It has a lot of information about each dog and has kept her interest for hours on end. My only complaint would be that the cover is not holding up to the usage demands! A fantastic book for any young dog lover of any age!

5 out of 5 stars Anonymous in New York.......2006-08-14

My kids absolutely love this book. Every time they see a dog they don't know, they ask what it is and look it up in the book. There hasn't been a dog they haven't been able to find yet. The color photographs, not illustrations, are great. I highly recommend this book, especially to kids who love dogs.

5 out of 5 stars Great for doglovers and dog haters.......2006-06-12

This book is great for dog lovers. I thought that the part about training your dog and such is dull because the pictures and accrual description of the dogs of the book is the best. It is great for someone who wants to get a dog and find which one is perfect for you. People whom already have a dog would not be board in this book. I had already had a dog before I got this and it was fun trying to find my dog and my friend's dog in this book. I think that this book is great for all ages because just looking at the pictures if fun. Anyone who says this is an awful book must be wrong only thing is there are more dogs in the back that do not have a description which means you my not find you dog in this book.

4 out of 5 stars be not mislead, it is about the breeds, not the care.......2005-02-24

As much as I like the book, it was not what I though it would be. This is a book about the various breeds explaining thme briefly to the child reader and introducing them by photos. Some of the best photos at a very reasonable price for those looking into the different breeds around!

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Totally awesome.......2007-08-01

I have never written a review for anything before, but this one deserves it. I absolutely love this book and so does my husband. I never knew so much about hot dogs, as well as the many different ways that people eat them across the country. I have it sitting out so that everyone can see it, and normally that is the first thing they pick up when they come to my home. I definitely recommend this book to anyone, even those who don't like hot dogs will like this book. It is totally awesome.

5 out of 5 stars Great American Hot Dog Book=Great Book!.......2007-04-30

In The Great American Hot Dog Book one will find not only recipes for hot dogs in every conceivable fashion, but also recipes for side dishes and a wealth of information on the hot dog. Ms. Mercuri has outdone herself in providing a real reference on the history of the hot dog and how it became an icon of the American foodways. Recipes from across the country, showcasing each regional specialty are included, making this book a great travel guide as well as a cookbook. Her attention to detail and recipe testing are well-evident and make for a terrific book.

5 out of 5 stars A book to truly relish.......2007-04-29

Becky Mercuri's latest addition to the history, traditions, and tastes of an American classic is truly a book to be read, used, and savored. From the traditions of New England to the modern stylings of the West Coast, Mercuri takes you on a culinary journey across the nation's hot dog highways and byways. Grab a copy of the book, sit back, and enjoy a trip that you will no doubt relish.

5 out of 5 stars Puttin' On The Dog!.......2007-04-24

First off, you're going to need two copies of this book: one for the kitchen and one for your glove box. One for the kitchen and one for the road!

Becky Mercuri, as in all her other fine books, has once again gone above and beyond in her quest to document the historical authenticity, modern day excellence, and (with apologies to A.B.) just plane ol' good eats!

The Great American Hot Dog Book does for hot dogs what hot sauce did for the lowly chicken wing: it takes the common and turns it into the exceptional! No matter your station in life, you'll never be able to look down your nose at the hot dog ever again! The recipes that Ms Becky has researched, tested, and then included in this book will see to it that you won't!

She has done a great job of providing us with the knowledge and recipes that examine and celebrate the various regional differences and preferences for hot dogs across this great land of ours. And there are some undeniable difference, for sure. Just ask any hot dog vendor in Chicago for ketchup on your dog and see what happens...

This is a great book on a great American tradition.

Thank you Becky Mercuri for another outstanding resource on traditional American food.

5 out of 5 stars The Great American Hot Dog Book.......2007-04-18

This is a most interesting and fun book. Anything written by Becky Mercuri is excellent. I love reading about hot dog stands in various states and would never have thought that there could be so many ways to serve wieners. Some of the sauces sound delicious. It's been years since I have had a hot dog (not even at ball games) but I plan to use some of the recipes in this book very soon. My family agrees that "The Great American Hot Dog Book" is a very special book.

This book is an instant hit. This is my youngest son's second copy because he loved the first to pieces. He never gets tired of this book.

4 out of 5 stars LONG.......2007-05-15

My child loves Scooby-doo but if you're buying this book for a toddler be prepared to read the stories for a long time. They're not as short as typical book, rather very long. Other than how long the book is we like it. Who doesnt like Scooby-doo?!?!?

5 out of 5 stars Scoobie Doobie Doo!.......2006-08-19

My 5 year old boy just loves this book, he either wants to leaf through the pages or have a story read from it every night. Of course all the stories follow the same scooby-doo formula, but for kids that's probably a reassuring thing, the monsters always end up bad guys that get caught by the heroes.

5 out of 5 stars Scooby Doo Does it Again.......2006-05-09

This is a wonderful collection of eight Scooby Doo and the gang mystery stories that my two young daughters just love. The stories are good, the pictures are cute and the book is excellent value for money.

Recommended for all Scooby-Doo fans and mystery lovers, both the young and young at heart.

5 out of 5 stars The Kids Love It!.......2006-03-12

My 5-year-old and 3-year-old boys have recently discovered Scooby Doo. As soon as they fall in love with any character or series I immediately try to find the books that accompany them to encourage their imaginations and and hopefully an enjoyment of reading. My 3-year-old now sleeps with this book and looks at it everynight. These stories aren't the classic ones my husband and I watched in the 70's, but newer stories closer to the "What's New Scooby Doo?" series, plus a few Scooby Doo movies from the 90's. These stories are full-fledged stories - not shortened "beginner" stories and they totally keep my kids' attention. They just love the stories and like to guess who the villian might be. If your kids like Scooby Doo then they will definitely like this book.
