Book Description
Is there a universal language of love, a "kinship with all life" that can open new horizons of experience?
Example after example in this unique classic -- from "Strongheart" the actor-dog to "Freddie" the fly -- resounds with entertaining and inspiring proof that communication with animals is a wonderful, indisputable fact. All that is required is an attitude of openness, friendliness, humility, and a sense of humor to part the curtain and form bonds of real friendship.
For anyone who loves animals, for all those who have ever experienced the special devotion only a pet can bring, Kinship With All Life is an unqualified delight. Sample these pages and you will never encounter "just a dog" again, but rather a fellow member of nature's own family.

A Simple Unavoidable Secret.......2006-07-11
I can't count how many copies I've bought of this book because I keep giving it to people. Years ago, it got me to study my cat tracking a cockroach without letting the bug know he was watching. That started my process of becoming more carefully observant of everything around me. It isn't ESP. It is, simply, paying attention. Most importantly, it is love, respect, and appreciation for All Life. By the time you finish reading (no doubt still hungry for more), you'll have gotten the message and probably given it a try. If you're serious about it, you'll find your life changing little by little and you'll discover how you can improve your relationships with others - animals or people - or insects, plants, and the planet itself. Once I chose to be somewhat of a reclusive hermit, but I couldn't do it because I have literally millions of intimate friends. The evidence of long ago that there was harmony among all on earth is still present. In choosing to stand there, we can begin to resolve our differences. We can evolve as humans. We can put an end to war and pestilence unfailingly, "whenever the human does his required part." Written in 1954, Boone's message is more important for us now than ever.
Profound impact.......2006-04-23
I read this book back in the late 50's and still own my original copy. It had that much of an impact on me! I have always been an animal lover, esp. dogs, but this book taught me more respect for all living things. I was fascinated with Boone's experiences and remember way back then trying to control a fly in a similar way. (I don't remember if I were successful.)
Today you can find book after book after DVD about "_________Whisperers" (fill in the blank with a type of animal), many of which are not unique (Cesar Millan IS the REAL thing, however!), but this book was a foundation book for all the rest.
I highly recommend reading it and am delighted to see it's back in print. Now I don't have to loan it out with the fear I'll never be able to replace it--actually, I still won't loan it out. Friends, here it is; buy your own copy!
Simple and Juicy and Right to the Heart!.......2006-02-27
My life has been about animals for so long...I even run a pet-care business! When I was kid, I knew all this stuff. But then I "grew up" and somehow lost track of the wonder of 'being still' and 'knowing.' In this phase of my life I'm finally back on track -- due in large part to the amazing animal teachers in my life. (And some great insight by humans as well!) This book really hits the mark when it comes to understanding the bond among all living things. It's straightforward and thoughtful and full of love. Just like you want all your relationships to be! It's a must have for any animal lover's library.
Kinship With All Life.......2005-09-12
I have made a gift of this book to a number of friends and having ordered another totally enjoyed it all over again. Delightful and sensitive it is a must for all generations regardless of age.
Learning Empathy For All Life.......2005-04-12
Mentally connecting with animals and insects? Boone tells the true story of his quest to understand their world from a totally non-anthropocentric (human superiority) view point by becoming a willing student and admirer of dogs, bugs, etc., in hopes of learning about them.
His open, non-judgmental attitude while attempting mental contact opens up a whole new world of communication and friendship. He bungles along with trial and error, but he soon finds out that non-verbal language of thoughts and feelings is just about all that is necessary to commune with them and this, coupled with true admiration and love for what each critter is and does, gives them the safe comfort zone they need to feel appreciated and open with him.
Boone opens the story with an exceptionally well trained, smart and alert police dog from Germany named "Strongheart". The dog was brought to Hollywood to be groomed for films and he becomes a sensation in several films such as Jack London's "White Fang", et al. London, of course, is one America's most famous writers- especially known for another and even more popular dog story, "Call of the Wild"- both stories a must for all animal lovers. As a note of interest, Strongheart was the first dog to star in film and preceded the popular "Rin Tin Tin" series.
Larry Trimble, the man who trained Strongheart for the movies, had to take a break from Hollywood and go to New York for business, so he asked the screenwriter Boone to "dog watch" for him and here the fascinating tale of their meeting of the mind/spirit and friendship begins.
Boone goes on to tell of other critters he learned to commune with and finishes the book with a fly he befriends and calls "Freddie". I learned about Freddie from a reference in Joanne Elizabeth Lauck's book, "The Voice of the Infinite in the Small"- another beautiful treatment of finding empathy for life in all it's marvelous creations- especially bugs.
If I hadn't had many of the same incredible experience's with critters that Boone writes about, I could easily have dismissed this stuff as interesting, but hard to believe. My experiences did not come close to the intentional, driven need to know that Boone writes about and yet, I still have had some very consciousness awakening experiences of inter-critter, if you will, communication.
This book is a gem and a fast read- too fast, you will want more!

Book Description
A lavishly illustrated, heartfelt examination of the wolf as a spiritual and ecological role model
• Dispels the myths of the wolf as a “blood-thirsty predator”
• Shows the spiritual importance of connecting to the creatures of the natural world
• Tells the story of the author’s 8 years of living with wolves at the Lüneburger Heide Wildlife Preserve in Germany
In the past, animals had worth to people only if they were edible, could carry heavy loads obediently, or had some other practical use. Recently, however, we have started to realize what we have lost through the extinction of so many wild creatures. Every step we take away from nature we pay for with a loss of understanding and wisdom. What we persecute and exterminate in the outer world we also eradicate in our souls. The highly stigmatized wolf, brought nearly to extinction by humans, is one part of our natural world whose value and wisdom we are just beginning to understand.
In
Kinship with the Wolf, Tanja Askani reveals a new facet of relating to wolves and to the world as a whole. Unlike other wolf researchers who strive to dominate these “vicious predators” and who measure their success by how much the wolf pack obeys them, Askani bases her wolf relationships on broad respect and knowledge as well as extraordinary empathy and love. She reveals a new picture of the wolf as a highly intelligent, social, sensitive creature that brings inestimable value to healthy natural systems. Her respect for the pack’s autonomous rules and her sensitivity to the wolves’ changing feelings and moods clearly distinguishes her from others who work with wolves. Her ability to communicate with and relate to wolves is a model of how we can respond to the intelligent complexity of life with care, respect, and wisdom and how we can maintain an intensive connection to the natural world without exercising human dominance.

DISAPPOINTED.......2007-09-15
I own, and have read, many books about wolves. They are fascinating and beautiful creatures. When I purchased this book, I expected extensive day-to-day detail of living with wolves. Instead, much of the book consisted of materials about wolves in general, most of which I already knew.
Review: Kinship with the Wolf.......2007-05-07
This amazing book is full of information on wolves and one womans dedication to helping us all understand how wolves fit into our lives. They have taught us much. The book also has pictures and photos that are awe inspiring.
Wonderful photographs.......2007-01-16
Along with great reading of the account of Tanja's life with the wolves are wonderful photographs of her interacting with them.
Product Description
ADVENTURES IN KINSHIP WITH ALL LIFE tells heartwarming, inspiring, true stories of the amazing power of extra-sensory perception in animals, of a bond of trust between people and animals of all kinds, and a new and wonderful world of silent communication. Adventures salutes the divinity within all living creatures. In his encounter with Just Joe, his monkey-companion, J. Allen Boone struggles to become the pupil, with the small simian as a teacher whose wisdom is not measured in words, but in his ability to vibrate with life s pulsations. Other characters are horses, gophers, seagulls and two remarkable and faithful dogs, Sally and Bomber. A chapter entitled The Love Compass tells of a mysterious power animals possess. Boone teaches the reader how to learn the silent language and become a master at interspecies relationships. In his thoughtful tales he speaks silently with all forms of life and grows to understand their silent replies. Boone never looked down on animals as lesser creatures; rather he looked across at them as companions in the grand adventure of life. His cultivated mental affinity with nature allowed him to see that everything that lives has something of value to share with us.
Customer Reviews:
Love is the supreme attractive force.......2006-11-12
The following review of Adventures in Kinship with All Life was published by The Book Reader, an "Independent Review of New Books:"
These essays by the gentle Boone are about the silent communication that exists, or can exist, between people and animals. Boone was an adept at interspecies communication, at "the science and art of right relations." He plunged right in to universal vibrations and discovered man's unitive experiences with all things living.
"When one's heartbeat is in tune and in time with the universal heartbeat, everything that he meets will want to cooperate with him and be his friend," wrote Boone.
The book includes many stories of folks and animals coming together, discovering each other. Of earth reverberations, of dogs and plants, of a man who lived in the jungle for over forty years. "He had mastered, to a superlative degree, the science and art of right relations."
Here are high level adventures in kinship, life, and love. "Love, then, is the supreme attractive force. Humans who possess this capacity to love their pets and other animals must have within them a sort of love-magnet, a particular magnetic pole of affection."
The publication of these adventures is a good and brave act by a woman who rescued the manuscript from the trash after Boone passed on. She is Bianca Leonardo, editor, and owner of Tree of Life Publications.
"ADVENTURES..." is the sequel to Boone's earlier book, "KINSHIP WITH ALL LIFE" (Harper & Row), which has sold 300,000 copies since it was first published in 1954. The sequel is nicely done. We wish it the same success.
Adventures in mind expansion.......2001-12-05
If you've ever wondered what God put animals on this Earth for, reading this book will give you an immensely practical and satisfying answer. Animals are our teachers, says Boone. Great teachers, too. Intelligent, aware teachers. What have I to learn? you may ask. Reading this book will give you example after example in the form of fascinating true stories written with clarity and humor. A must read for the spiritually open or for anyone who loves animals.

Process, not content.......2006-10-30
I rate this a five on the basis of the importance of having people from such different walks of life telling essentially the same story in their own unique way. Solisti and Tobias have put together a compendium of tales that illustrate the individual dilemma that each one of us face at this moment in time. Whether approached from a scientific, spiritual, moral or uniquely personal view, the need to make a personal choice regarding one's relationship with one's context is one that those privileged enough to be able to read and buy books are faced with in this important time in history. Books reviewed in times to come will reflect such choices. The heavy responsibility that each of us carries is well illustrated in this book.

Conversations with Dog: An Uncommon Dogalog of Canine Wisdom
ASIN: 1885223889 |
Book Description
This book consists of thirty-four essays exploring the relationships humans have had with animals in past and present times. In addition to the editors, contributors include writers and animal experts Jane Goodall, Michael Fox, Gary Kowalski, Joseph Bruchac, Gabriel Horn, Ingrid Newkirk, Jim Nollman, Michael Roads, Penelope Smith, and Linda Tellington-Jones. There are four main types of relationships addressed in the anthology: scientific relationships, traditional relationships, changing relationships, and renewing ancient relationships.
From Jane Goodall speaking about how she came to devote her life to animals to the story of Tatti Wattles, the avante garde performing artist, who happened to be a rat, the stories in "Kinship with the Animals" describe animals as sentient beings capable of feelings and sophisticated thoughts. The editors have deliberately sought stories that expand the vocabulary of interspecies dialogue--stories that present diverse views of animal awareness, cognition, and communication.
Customer Reviews:
Superb anthology on human-animal connections........1999-09-05
Like any anthology, the quality of essays in this volume vary, but almost anyone who enjoys this genre will find several terrific and touching expositions here, including the two by Tobias (the editor) himself; a wide range of writers and approaches are included. For the most rigid of scientists or those who feel no instinctive connection to animals this book may fall short, but for all who do sense a certain oneness with those other species who share our planet this volume is an entertaining and intriguing read.
Thought provoking essays about animal communication........1999-03-31
I found the book for the most part to be well written, sometimes full of fun, sometimes sad, but almost always with thoughtful experiences. The book is aimed at those of us who already accept the fact that there is a need to give more attention to other forms of life, and that the Earth is not ours to do what we want with. The book is a good buy at a very reasonable price. I can definitely recommend it -- it will provide several evenings of interesting and enjoyable reading.
engaging.......1998-12-16
I found this book simply facinating. Although I didn't like all the essays, the majority were quite good. I especially enjoyed the essays on inter-species communication.
This was not a book about teaching how to relate to animals. It was more of an affirmation or testimony to people's personal experiences with animals.
An excellent collection of stories of our other earth friend.......1998-12-10
Sometimes touching, always informative. I have learned that our other earth friends are closer to us than we ever knew. I know that I now have incredibly more respect for my loving dog that ever before. I see all living things with greater understanding and appreciation.
Book Description
We connect with animals on many levels, whether walking a dog, riding a horse, observing gorillas at the zoo, playing with a teddy bear as a child, or even simply watching them on TV and in movies. We call our sports teams Wolverines, Bobcats, Grizzlies, and Panthers. We can be gentle as a dove, fierce as a grizzly, or as agile as a cat. Some of us may even dream of being reborn as a different species. We typically accept these connections for what they are, taking for granted what is really a remarkable — and necessary — part of our existence.
In Ask Now the Beasts , acclaimed nature writer Ruth Rudner explores the eternal and complicated connections between humans and animals. In a series of true stories about her own interactions and observations of some of the many animals that have crossed her path, she writes about the powerful ways that animals interact with us spiritually, activate our imaginations, and tie us to the ancient past. Moving between domestic and wild, Rudner finds meaning and appreciation for the way in which each animal exists fully in its own world — and how that world relates to ours.

Thoughly enjoyed this book and its beasts.......2006-08-07
A lovely book. I laughed and cried. The author's descriptions of places and animals are beautiful and amusing-- such as rhapsodizing about Donkeys' ears. I wished there had been photos of her with some of her "beasts"
Book Description
An innocent act of kindness turns a bear into a dangerous marauder and when she is killed she leaves her three cubs without a mother. Stephen Stringham and his new bride decided to raise these three orphan cubs in the Alaska wilderness. Together, they taught Ontak, Chrislee, and Jonjoanak about which plants they could eat and how to fish and hunt. Dr. Stringham's extensive scientific background made him an ideal teacher of the foraging skills and the social skills they would need to live in a bear's world. In the process of teaching them, Stringham learns from the cubs how bears express fear, anger, and how to appease defensive bears and intimidate the aggressive ones.
He and his wife would develop trust and respect through their affection and play, helping to heal the cubs' emotional wounds and decrease their aggression and violence. As the Springhams' bond with their furry charges deepens, they realize that it is a connection that is all too uncommon between people and animals. When Dr. Stringham is told by the Department of Fish and Game to destroy the bears, the depth of that bond would be tested. Beauty within the Beast is a heartwarming true story of how people and animals can find common ground and live in harmony on earth.
Customer Reviews:
Beauty within the beast.......2003-01-12
As many in this world know, very few will experience the Bear. Dr. Stringham skillfully shares his experience with the Ursus kind in a manner which allows the laymen to touch this creature in the comfort of the armchair.
I have much respect for what Steve has done, both in this book and his career, and hope that my words may spread the message that is contained in this book. I truly know that this will become a classic; in the true spirit of Michio Hoshino...Please write more Steve!
Real Life Adventure.......2002-11-19
Few of us will ever have the opportunities that Dr. Stringham has had, to live intimately with wild animals on a daily baisis and observe them close at hand. Dr. Stringham has written an enchanting and engaging accout of raising three wild bear cubs in the Alaskan wilderness. Bears have been revealed as intelligent and adaptive creatures who occupy a unique niche in the American wilderness, comparable to the niche primates occupy in Africa. This book is exciting, highly readable and hard to put down. Dr. Stringham is not only a gifted wildlife biologist, but a gifted writer; his descriptions are beautiful. I love this book, as has every other person I know who has had the fortune to read it. Christine Nicolayeff
Kinship with Bears.......2002-11-19
Beauty, personality, kin, children, learning beings--what a picture of these brown bears we are given, by Dr. Stringham. The previous reviewer (blessed282) has describe the beautiful attributes of this book well. I can only add: It is wonderful. I can't wait for his next one!
An Awesome Book.......2002-07-12
Reading this book was a privilege. The author writes with a sensitive and wonderfully descriptive style. I found myself fascinated from the moment I picked it up until I put it down. It is at once an adventure, and a love story of an unusual kind. In reading this book, I felt his reverence for wild animals, particularly for bears, and I learned to look at them as something far more than I had before. I was not overwhelmed by the science in the book, because it was so skillfully interwoven with his description of raising three black bear cubs. Dr. Stringham has created a treasure, and I highly recommend it.
